Zack Lottie L, daughter of John and Susanna Sleek, was born in Penn.,
Nov. 11, 1854; died in the hospital at Elkhart, Nov. 20, 1923,
aged 69 years and 9 days. Her first marriage was to Peter Shellhouse in 1889. He
met his untimely fate in a cyclone which visited Albion and was burned to death
in his residence. Her second marriage was to Julius Zack in 1911. They had one
child, who is now 11 years of age. Her home was in Albion most of her
life. She was a member of Mennonite Church. She leaves one son, Julius;
one sister, Mrs. Wilbur Fuller of Albion; one brother, William of Garrett.

Zahnter Emma, 17 years and 2 months, died at the residence of her parents
3 miles west of Kendallville Oct. 29. She was the wife of Charles Zahnter. ^

Zarnetzki Gustav, 84, of Wolcottville, died Thursday in
McCray Hospital. He was born in Sensbeg, Germany April 8, 1905, the son of
Michael and Lousie Zarnetzki. In 1924 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he
married Ruth Stoehr, who died in 1984. He was a chef and a member of Hope
Lutheran Church at Pompano Beach, Fla. Survivors are a niece, Val Steffe of
Wolcottville; and 3 grand-nieces, Karin McKenzie, Sylvia Meschberger and Sheri
Steffe. Services at a later date at Deerfield Beach, Fla. +

Zarse Clarence O, 69, of Ligonier, died Sunday at Goshen
Hospital. Born May 21, 1910 in Chicago, Ill., he was the son of Mr. and Mrs.
John Zarse. He had lived most of his life in the Ligonier area. He was employed
as a carpenter and was a member of Ligonier Elks Lodge. Survivors are his
stepmother, Mrs. Helen Wilson of Tacoma, Wash.; a daughter, Mrs. Roy (Judy)
Mynhier of Ligonier; a son, Delford of Cromwell; a sister, Mrs. Eleanor Silveus
of Fort Wayne; 8 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. Funeral

Zarse Edna Irene Hire, 61, Ligonier, died
last Tuesday in Goshen Hospital. She was born on Dec. 17, 1907 in
Darke County, Ohio, the daughter of Oscar and Ella Dellinger. She had lived most
of her life in the Ligonier community. She was married to Walter Hire who died
in 1946, then to Clarence Zarse. Surviving are her husband; 2 sons, Walter Jr.,
R. 2, Middlebury, and David, R. 1, Ligonier; 4 daughters, Mrs. William (Marvis)
McFadden, Concord, Calif., Mrs. Larry (Nora) Stahley, LaPorte, Mrs. Dennis
(Carolyn) Wade, Elkhart, Mrs. Talbert (Glenda) Patrick Ligonier; 34
grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. One brother, Lester, Fort Wayne; 3
sisters, Mrs. Chalmer Staton, Ligonier, Mrs. Keith Giggy, Howe, and Mrs.

Zarse-Housman Sarah E, 73, died April 13, 2007 at Avalon Village in
Ligonier. She was born March 29, 1934 in Mishawaka to Joseph Fleck and
Allis Emma (Stewart) Locke. She was raised by Herschel and Emma
Locke. She was married to Delford Zarse for 27 years
and Ralph Housman for 4 years. She had been a waitress at Fashion Farm in
Ligonier and was a member of West Noble American Legion Post Auxiliary and
Cromwell Lutheran Church. Surviving are 2 sons, Delford "Bud"
Zarse Jr. of Syracuse and Richard Zarse of North Webster; 3 daughters and
2 sons-in-law, Karen and Roger Simmons, Rose and Mark Sabin, and Sherrie
Anderson, all of Cromwell; 3 sisters and a brother-in-law, Marie Rink of
Mishawaka, Phyllis Locke-Snyder of Fort Wayne and Carolyn and Denny Sanders of
Ligonier; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters and a

Zaucha Eugenia M, 74, grandmother of Ronald Zaucha, 508 Lewis St.,
Avilla, formerly of Garrett, died Dec. 13, at St. Petersburg, Fla., where she
had resided for the past 11 years. She was born May 26, 1897 in Poland. She was
a member of Holy Family Catholic Church at St. Petersburg. Also surviving are
the husband, Martin; two brothers, Michael Mankowski of Altona and Fred
Mankowski of Chicago, Ill.; three sisters, Mrs. Berniece Mueller of St.
Petersburg, Mrs. Henrietta Duray and Mrs. Victoria Kaszowicz of Chicago. A son,

Zaucha Martin, 91, died October 12 at Sacred Heart Home. He
had lived on W. King St. in Garrett and was retired from the B&O Railroad.
He was born October 24, 1891 in Poland, the son of John and Tillie Zaucha. On
May 13, 1913 he married Eugenia Mankowski in DeKalb County. She died December
13, 1971. Surviving are a grandson, Ron Zaucha, Avilla; and three
great-granddaughters. Services Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Zawadzke Alberta M,
80, of Avilla died August 18, 2013 in her residence. She had worked at Magnavox, Taylor
Made and along with her husband was a part owner of Paul’s Tavern, all in
Kendallville. She was a member of
Immanuel Lutheran Church in Avilla. She was born March 9, 1933, in Noble County, to Roy and Blanche (Croupe) Sayles. On June 14, 1950,
in Kendallville, she married Paul “Buck”
Zawadzke. He died July 3, 1996. Surviving are 2 daughters and
sons-in-law, Peggy and Harry Draper of LaOtto and Cindy and Larry Wineland of
Avilla; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Mary Zawadzke of Big Long Lake;
5 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 3
sisters, Gladys Braun of Fort Wayne, Juanita Harmes of Corunna, and Darlene
Morris of Ohio. She was also preceded in death by her
parents; a sister, Bonnie Hypes; and 4 brothers, Robert, Roy,

Zawadzke Anna Mae, 60, of Sevierville, died Nov. 11, 2005 in
Sevierville. She had been employed at the Dollywood theme park and most
recently worked in retail business in Sevierville. A 1963 graduate of
Kendallville High School, she was born Dec. 30, 1944 in Wolf lake to Bruce and
Wanda Jackson. Surviving are her husband, Tom; a daughter, Amy Hill of
Fort Wayne; a son, Andrew Wentworth of Pa.; 3 sisters and brothers-in-law, Iva
Jean and Carl Nasse of Canajoharie, N.Y., Dorothy and Keith Taylor of
Springfield, Ohio, and Viola and Alan Hass of Albion; 2 granddaughters, Linda
Hill and Jennifer Wentworth; one grandson, Drew Wentworth. She was
preceded in death by a brother, Harold Jackson. Services Nov. 14 at Our

Zawadzke Esther Margaret, 95, of Avilla, died Feb. 6, 2008 at Provena
Sacred Heart Home in Avilla. For more than 30 years she worked in civil
service with the Internal Revenue Service as a delinquent tax auditor. She
graduated from Kendallville High School in 1930 as valedictorian and was first
in her class at International Business College in Fort Wayne. She was a
member of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne. She was
born in Kendallville on Feb. 7, 1912 to John and Katherine (Streb) Zawadzke. Surviving are 3 nephews. She was preceded in death by 2
brothers, Paul and John, and a sister, Martha Bodenhafer. Services

Zawdzke Harold "Zeke", 72, of Kendallville, died May 26, 2009
at Provena Sacred Heart Home in Avilla. He was born in Kendallville on
Sept. 17, 1936 to Paul and Wilda (Kreischer) Zawadzke. He graduated from
Albion Jefferson High School in 1955. He married Charlotte Clouse on Nov.
26, 1958 in Burr Oak, Ind. He retired from International Truck &
Engine of Indianapolis after 39 years of service and worked part-time at
Cobblestone Golf Course in Kendallville for about 11 years. He was a
member of Mt Pleasant Lutheran Church. Surviving are his wife; 2 sons and
a daughter-in-law, Jeff Zawadzke of Kendallville and Jerry and Calie Zawadzke of
Huntertown; a daughter, Laura Zawadzke of Guilford, Conn.; 2 granddaughters,
Brittany McBride and Mollie Zawadzke; 2 brothers and a sister-in-law, David and
Bertha Zawadzke of Blackman Lake and Tom Zawadzke of Sevierville, Tenn. He
was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Paul and infant Richard. Celebration

Zawadzke John C, 70, of 116 Conlogue Ave., died Monday in the
Fort Wayne Nursing Home. Born in Kendallville Sept. 19, 1908, he was the son of
John and Catherine (Streb) Zawadzke. On Feb. 20, 1937 in Auburn, he married
Luella Baker. He was a retired core maker for Newman Foundry and a member of
First Christian Church. Survivors include the wife; a daughter, Sharon Noel of
Saline, Mich.; a son, Steven of Kendallville; 2 sisters, Esther of Fort Wayne,
and Mrs. Rex (Martha) Bodenhafer of Kendallville; a brother, Paul of
Kendallville; and 5 grandchildren. Funeral Wednesday in Hite Funeral

Zawadzke Luella M, 70, Kendallville, died Friday in McCray Hospital. She
was born in Garrett Aug. 3, 1915, the daughter of Josh and Ruth (Wood) Baker.
She married John Zawadzke Feb. 20, 1937 in Auburn. He died March 12, 1979. She
was a retired nurses’ aide at McCray Hospital, a member of the First Christian
Church, Eagles Lodge and Royal Neighbors of Kendallville. Surviving are a
daughter, Mrs. Sharon Noel of Ann Arbor, Mich., a son, Steven of Kendallville; a
sister, Mrs. Harold (Ruth) Owen of Garrett; and four grandchildren. One brother,
one sister and one granddaughter preceded her in death. Services Monday.

Zawadzke Paul, 77, R. 2, Kendallville, died of an apparent heart attack March 5 while gathering firewood in a woods on his farm. He
was a former plant superintendent of the Kendallville Publishing Co. Inc., and
had been an employee for 48 years, retiring in December 1972. He was born April
13, 1907 in Kendallville, the son of John and Catherine (Streb) Zawadzke. He
married Elizabeth Kreischer Jan. 1, 1928 in Kendallville. He was a member of the
Lutheran Church, Kendallville. Surviving are his wife; four sons, Paul
"Junior", R. 2, Kendallville, David L., Ligonier, Harold L., Downers
Grove, Ill., and Thomas D. of Kendallville; two sisters, Esther of Fort Wayne,
and Mrs. Rex (Martha) Bodenhafer of Kendallville; 14 grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren. One son, one brother and two half-sisters preceded him in

Zawadzke Paul "Buck", 67, died July 3, 1996 in Fort Wayne. He
was born in Kendallville on Dec. 7, 1928, the son of Paul and Wilda (Kreischer)
Zawadzke. On June 14, 1950 he married Alberta Sayles. A lifetime Kendallville
resident, he was the retired hatchery manager of Steckley’s Mill & Hatchery. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. Surviving are his wife; 2
daughters, Peggy Barker of Avilla, and Cindy Wineland of Huntertown; a son, Paul
of rural Wolcottville; 3 brothers, David, Thomas and Harold; 7 grandchildren and

Zawadzke Ruth N, 50, of Kendallville, died today at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born in Kendallville Aug. 11, 1934,
she was the daughter of John F. and Bertha Blechle. On Dec. 19, 1970 in
Kendallville she married Thomas Zawadzke. She was a member of St. John Lutheran
Church. Surviving are her husband; 2 daughters, Brenda Payton of Cree Lake and
Tammy I. at home; a son, John F. Bickley at home; a sister, Marjorie Reade of
Kendallville; 3 brothers, Lawrence Snook of Tampa, Fla., Carl Snook of
Louisville, Ky., and David Snook, Elizabethtown, Ky.; and 3 grandchildren. One
daughter preceded her in death. Services at Hite Funeral Home Monday.

Zawadzke Steven J, 57, died Aug 8, 2007 at Hospice Home in Fort
Wayne. He was born Oct. 2, 1949 in Kendallville to John and Luella (Baker)
Zawadzke. He married Monique McDonald on Sept. 18, 1987 in
Kendallville. A 1969 graduate of East Noble High School, he had worked 32
years at Lyall Electric, Group Dekko and International Wire and one year at
Colwell. He was a member of Trinity Church United Methodist in
Kendallville and had served in the Indiana National Guard from 1970 to
1976. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Suzanne of Wolf Lake; 3
grandchildren, Alexia, Kyle and Maya. He was preceded in death by his
parents; a son, Andrew in 2000; and a sister, Sharon in 1997. Burial, Lake

Zawadzke Wilda Elizabeth, 85, of Kendallville, died Thursday in Kingston
of Ligonier . She was born in Ashley on July 18, 1910 to Lionel and Wilda (Miller) Kreischer. On January 1, 1928 in
Kendallville she married Paul Zawadzke, who died in 1985. She had lived in
Shepherd of the Hill nursing home, Kendallville for 3 years before moving to
Kingston, where she resided since 1992. She was a member of St. John
Lutheran Church in Kendallville. Surviving are 4 sons, Paul Jr. and Thomas
of Kendallville, David of Wolcottville and Harold of Indianapolis; 4 sisters,
Hazel Robeson and Barbara Mayne of Kendallville, Janice Ringler of Auburn, and
Marilyn Hoffein of Fairborn, Ohio; 16 grandchildren and 20
great-grandchildren. A son, Richard, and 4 sisters preceded her in

Zeedyk Avajean K, 91, died Sunday in Alfran Nursing Home,
Columbia City. She was born in Fort Wayne Dec. 7, 1889, the daughter of Frank
and Mary (McDaniel) Kincade. She married Neil Zeedyk April 5, 1927 in Fort
Wayne. He died Oct. 17, 1968. She had lived most of her life in Kendallville and
moved to Churubusco 11 years ago. She was a member of Faith United Methodist
Church. Surviving are two sons, Calvin, R. 3, Churubusco, and Donald,
Kendallville; 5 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Services
Wednesday in Krider-Workman Chapel in Churubusco. Burial, Lake View Cemetery. ~

Zeedyk Betty J, of Garrett, died April 29, 2005 at her home from
cancer. She was retired from Compra Care Home Health Services. She
was born in Green Twp, Noble County Sept. 26, 1932 to Floyd and Ruth (Haney)
Diffendarfer. She married Calvin Zeedyk on July 22, 1950. He died
Feb. 10, 1994. She was a member of Churubusco OES and attended Churubusco
United Methodist Church. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Rita and
Rex Harpel of Garrett; a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Sybil Zeedyk of San
Antonio, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Rex and Jackie Diffendarfer of
French Lick; a sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Lee Lambert of
Holister, Fla.; a half-brother, Monte Diffendarfer of Churubusco; 2 stepsisters;
8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Also preceding her in death was
a son, Randy. Services Monday at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home. ^

Zeedyk Calvin P, 65, of Churubusco, died Wednesday in St. Joseph Medical
Center, Fort Wayne. He was born August 5, 1928 in Auburn to Neil and Ava
Jean (Kincaid) Zeedyk. On July 22, 1950 in Churubusco he married Betty J.
Diffendarfer. She survives. He attended Kendallville High School and
lived in the Churubusco area since 1953. He was a WW II U.S. Navy veteran
and was a truck driver for Fortmeyers Inc. in Fort Wayne for many years and
Lend-Lease Trucking Line from which he retired in 1990. He was a member of
Churubusco Masonic Lodge No. 515, OES No. 136, American Legion Post 157 and
Whitley County F.O.P. No. 131. Also surviving are 2 sons, Rick of San
Antonio, Texas, and Randy of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Mrs. Rex (Rita) Harpel of
Waynesville, Mo.; a brother Donald of Kendallville; and 7 grandchildren.

Zeedyk Margaret M, 88, of Kendallville, died July 9,
2011 at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. She
was born in Kendallville December 2, 1922 to Lester Wert and Geraldine (Forbes)
Boughey. She graduated from Kendallville High School in 1941. She
married Donald Zeedyk on September 4, 1948 in Kendallville.
She was a telephone operator for 20 years with Indiana Bell Telephone in
Kendallville and also worked at the News Sun for 10 years and Northside
Elementary School cafeteria for 10 years. She was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Kendallville and a member
of the Noble Chapter 122, Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include her husband; 2 daughters, Susan Walsh and her husband,
Jack, of Somerset, New Jersey, and Sandra Showen and her husband, John, of
Virginia Beach, Virginia; and 2 grandchildren Donald Showen and Nancy Lee.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Eugene Wert, on December
25, 2009. Funeral July 13 at Hite Funeral Home. Burial, Lake View

Zeedyk Randy J, 44, of Fort Wayne, died Saturday in McCray Hospital in
Kendallville following an auto accident a few minutes earlier on U. S. 33 near
Wolf Lake. He was born July 2, 1953 in Kendallville to Calvin and Betty (Diffendarfer)
Zeedyk. His mother survives in Churubusco. He was a
mold technician for Nishikawa Standard Co. and was a member of the Sons of the
American Legion Post 47. Also surviving are a son, Brook of Fort Wayne; a
daughter, Erin of Kendallville; a sister, Rita Harpel of Waynesville, Mo.; a
brother, Rick of San Antonio, Texas; grandparents, Floyd and Arrena Diffendarfer
of Churubusco; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by his father
in 1994. Funeral Wednesday in D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park

Zeigler Clarence E, 90, of rural Churubusco, died Dec. 14, 2002 at
Miller's Merry Manor in Columbia City. He farmed and lived at his farm
home since 1934. He was a member of Blue River Church of the Brethren and
Whitley County Farm Bureau. He was born in Green Twp, Noble County on June
21, 1912 to Jesse B. and Lillie F. (Prough) Zeigler. On Nov. 20, 1941 in
Columbia City he married Bernice Dean. She died April 8, 1995.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, David and Bonnie Zeigler of rural
Churubusco; a stepson; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Dolores and
Allen and Jeanie Zeigler of rural Churubusco; 6 sisters, Mae Wappes of
Churubusco, Geraldine Growcock, Betty Crabill and Barbara Nicodemus of
Columbia City and Martha Wappes and Joy Follis of Fort Wayne; 7 grandchildren
and 3 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Mary K Weaver; and 6 brothers, Ben,
John, Henry, Marshal, Lee and Donald Zeigler and Jay Ziegler preceded him in

Zeigler Donald O, 70, died Saturday, June 30, 2001, at home on the family
farm in Smith Twp, rural Churubusco. As a young man, the lifelong Smith
Twp resident served in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict. He was employed
at Dana Corp., Churubusco, for over 10 years and engaged in farming in Smith Twp
all of his life until he retired from that in 1995. He was a member of the
Whitley County Farm Bureau. He was born March 26, 1931, near Churubusco to
Jesse and Lillie (Prough) Zeigler. On January 14, 1956, in Noble County,
he married Dorothy J. Cunningham, who died March 8, 1994. Four
brothers, Ben, Lee, John and Marshall, also preceded him in death.
Surviving are 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Lee and Beth Zeigler of Ligonier, Ray
and Kristine Zeigler of Kimmell, and Max and Jennifer Zeigler of Churubusco; 2
daughters and sons-in-law, Luann and J. C. Workman and Diane and Joe Wolf of
Larwill; 4 brothers and 2 sisters-in-law, Clarence of Columbia City, and Jay W,
Ralph and Dolores, and Allen E. and Jeanie Zeigler of Churubusco; 6 sisters, Mae
Wappes of Mesa, Ariz., Geraldine Growcock, Betty Crabill and Barbara Nicodemus

Zeigler Dorothy J, 62, of Churubusco, died Tuesday in St. Joseph Medical
Center, Fort Wayne. She was born in Whitley County on October 14, 1931 to
Ellis and Mary (Kimmel) Cunningham. She married Donald Zeigler on January
14, 1956. He survives. A lifetime resident of the Churubusco area,
she was employed as a bakery manager at Egolf's IGA in Churubusco until
1981. She attended the First Church of God in Columbia City and was a
member of the Whitley County Extension Homemakers' Club. Surviving also
are 2 daughters, Mrs. J. C. (Luann) Workman of Churubusco, and Mrs. Joe (Diane)
Wolf of Larwill; 3 sons, Lee and Max of Churubusco, and Ray of Kimmell; a
sister, Mrs. Marvin (Ellen) Bridegam of Columbia City; and 4

Zeigler Gordon, 64, of Jefferson Twp, was found dead in his barnyard on
Tuesday of last week. His death was caused by apoplexy. He was an old

Zeigler Joseph "Ben", 71, died Friday in
St. Joseph Medical Center, Fort Wayne. He was born in Whitley County but had
lived most of his life in Allen County. He was a WW II Army veteran and had
received a Purple Heart for his service in the medical unit. He was employed for
17 years as manager of Neuhouser Hatchery in Fort Wayne and Columbia
City, and retired in 1980 as an auto salesman for Davis Pontiac in Fort Wayne.
Surviving are his wife, Edith; a son, Paul of Albion; 6 sisters, May Wappes of
Mesa, Ariz., Geraldine Growcock, Barbara Nicodemus and Betty Crabill of Columbia
City, and Martha Wappes and Joy Fallis of Fort Wayne; 5 brothers, Clarence,
Ralph, Donald and Allen of Churubusco, and Jay of Forreston, Ill.; and 4

Zeigler Lillie, 90, died at Miller’s Merry Manor, Columbia City, Feb.
26. She was born Aug. 9, 1891 in LaGrange County, the daughter of
Frank and Cora Zumbrun Prough. On Oct. 29, 1910 she was married to Jessie B.
Zeigler. He died in June 1977. They spent their married years in Smith Twp. She
was a member of the Blue River Church of the Brethren, a charter member of Farm
Bureau Home Demonstration Club and a member of Farm Bureau. She is survived by 6
sons, Clarence, Ralph, Donald and Allen of Churubusco, Ben of Fort Wayne, and
Jay of Forreston, Ill.; 6 daughters, Mary Wappes of Phoenix, Ariz., Geraldine
Growcock, Betty Crabill and Barbara Nicodemus of Columbia City, Martha Wappes

Zeis Oliver M, 69, died Wednesday in Parkview Hospital. He
was born May 1, 1916 in Auburn to Perry and Eva (Commer) Zeis. He resided in
Kendallville until 1959 when he moved to Fort Wayne. He was employed as a
custodian in the Fort Wayne Community School System until his retirement in
1981. On Aug. 14, 1936 he married his wife, Martha, in Stroh. Surviving are his
wife in Fort Wayne; 2 sons, Michael A. of Fort Wayne, and Marty L. of Kokomo;
one daughter, Barbara A. Rhodes of Elkhart; one brother, Hanley of Auburn; one
sister, Lucille Bachman of LaGrange; and 7 grandchildren. One sister, Goldie
Smith, preceded him in death. He was a member of the Park Forest Church of God.

Zeigler Paul B, rural Albion, died June 19, 2010 at his home in Noble
Twp. He was a farmer and had worked at Newhouser Hatchery and Rea Magnet
Wire in Fort Wayne and Autojectors in Avilla. For the past 12 years he had
been employed at 80/20 Inc. in Columbia City and had worked part-time at
Builder's Square and Panel Mart in Fort Wayne. He was a member of
Churubusco United Methodist Church. He was born in Fort Wayne on March 17,
1942 to Joseph "Ben" and Edith (Porter) Zeigler. He married
Nancy Dafforn on Sept. 24, 1966 ihn Fort Wayne. Surviving are his wife; 4
children, Scott (Annette) Zeigler of Merriam, Heather (Rob) Rawles of Albion,
Todd (Kim) Zeigler of Mooreseville, N.C., and Chad Zeigler of Fort Wayne; and 12
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas.

Zeigler Ralph, 85, of Churubusco, died Oct. 13, 2011, at his farm.
He was a farmer and had worked at Newhouser Hatchery, Fort Wayne and Farm Bureau
Co-Op, delivering fuel oil for 17 years. He was a member of the Collins
United Methodist Church, Farm Bureau for 60 years, Whitley County 4-H and was a
founding member of the 4-County Pony Pulling Association. He graduated
from Churubusco High School in 1945. He was born April 25, 1926, in
Whitley County to Jessie and Lillie F. (Prough) Zeigler. He married V. Dolores
Nicodemus Oct. 5, 1946 in Columbia City. Surviving are his wife; 5 sons, Mike
(Charlene) and Danny (Marcia) Zeigler, both of Churubusco, Dale (Joni) and Norm
(Cathy) Zeigler, both of Fort Wayne, and Randall (Mary) Zeigler of Albion; 17
grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters and one brother, Betty Crabill
of Columbia City, Martha Wappes of Powell, Ohio, Joy Follis of Fort Wayne, Allen

City. He had been an inspector with Auburn Gear for one year and prior to

2, 1956 in Fort Wayne to Donald and Shirley (Nicholson) Zell. His father
died Sept. 20, 1989. On Jan. 4, 1982 in Lampass, Texas, he married Darby

Zellers Alda (Kelham), 85, a native of Avilla, died Oct. 22, in
Fallbrook, Calif. She was born near Avilla in August 1880 and moved to
California in 1924. Her husband, Leroy, whom she married in Avilla in 1900, died
in 1931. Surviving are five children, Raymond E., Gerald L, Robert K., Kathryn
Nevin and Thomas R.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. All live in

Zellers Carl, 46, died October 9, at the home of his brother,
Ott L. Zellers, R. 3, Kendallville, following a year’s illness. Born in
Monroeville, O., he came to Kendallville in 1905 and began farming four miles

Zellers Otis "Ott", 91, retired farmer and former
resident of Avilla, was born in Bismarck, Huron County, Ohio to Frank and
Katherine (Richey) Zellers. He moved to Indiana in 1905. He married Clara M.
Kurtz on Oct. 1, 1908, and she died June 25, 1973. He lived at 313 S. Lewis St.
until two years ago when he moved to the home of his daughter, Evelyn Wood, in
Toledo. He died at the home of his daughter Thursday in Toledo. Services

Zellers Otis L, 52, son of Mr. and Mrs. Otis Zellers, Avilla, died Dec.

Quincy, Ill. He attended South Wayne Baptist Church and was a member of the
Southwest Conservation Club, the National Rifle Association and was a sergeant

Zent Eloise Gertrude, 81, of Albion, died Tuesday in Whitley County
Hospital in Columbia City where she had been admitted earlier that day.
She was born October 7, 1911 in Whitley County to Willard and Grace (Rittenour)
Miles. On September 25, 1937 in Columbia City she married Howard Edwin
Zent, who died Mary 31, 1983. She grew up in Noble County and lived in the
same home since leaving her place of birth. She retired from Dana Corp.'s
Weatherhead Division in Columbia City as a machinist. She had formerly
worked for Blue Bell and Whitley Products. She was a member of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in Columbia City and a 50-plus member of OES,
Columbia City chapter. Surviving are a son, Jerry L. of Albion; 6
grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A grandson, Randy Zent, preceded

after being injured in a semi-automobile accident on May 14. He was born July
19, 1912, the son of Lewis Franklin and Ella May (Keller) Zent. He married
Elouise G. Miles October 25, 1937. He had lived at his current home 45 years and
was employed in the maintenance department of Victor Seals Division of Dana
Corporation, Churubusco, until his retirement in 1975. He was a member of the

Zentz Charles E, Mishawaka, died Saturday in his home. He
was born Jan. 13, 1889 in Buttermilk Point, Lake Wawasee, and had lived in the
Mishawaka area since 1917 when he moved from Cromwell. He married Vera H. Hursey
on Dec. 27, 1910 in Cromwell. She survives, with a son, William P. of Mishawaka;
3 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Henry Hull; and a
brother, Elman of Etna Green. He was co-owner of the former Hull-Zentz Meat
Market in Mishawaka. He was formerly a barber in Cromwell and played with the

in Marshall County, he was the son of Newton and Emma (Pittman) Zentz. His wife,

50 years and was a retired B&O Railroad employee. He was a member of St.

Nov. 17, 1931 in Nashville. He died in 1974. On Aug. 5, 1978 she married Foster
Zentz. She was a resident of the Ligonier-Cromwell area since 1966 coming from
Fort Wayne. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Survivors

He had lived in the Ligonier area 22 years and was employed as a chef before

The daughter of Spalden and Emma (Maggert) McMann, she was born Nov. 7, 1897 in
Noble County. In 1941 in Bryan, Ohio, she married A. M. Zerbe, who preceded her
in death. A retired waitress, she had lived in Ligonier since 1948, moving from
Niles, Mich. She was a member of Ligonier Church of the Nazarene. Surviving are

Zerkle Charles "Jim", 87, died Thursday in Betz Nursing
Home. He was a resident of Urban Ave. and formerly was employed by the NYC
RR and the Auburn Automobile Co. He worked at Warner Gear in Auburn from
1941 to 1967, when he retired. He then worked 10 years in the pro shop at
Greenhurst Country Club. He was a member of the Waterloo United Methodist
Church. He was born July 3, 1905 in Waterloo to Charles and Mary
Ann (Grogg) Zerkle. He married Opal Bricker on January 10, 1931 in South
Bend. Surviving are his wife; a son, Richard D. of
Kendallville; one daughter, Beverly McNall of Churubusco; 7 grandchildren and 5

Zern Clarie E (Crawford) was born May 10, 1853; was married to W. H. Zern
May 6, 1879. She and her husband united with the Christian Church after returning to
Kendallville. She died July 16, 34 years, 2 months and 6 days. She leaves a

Zern Leander, 82, citizen of Kendallville for more than half a century,
died at his home 109 S. State St. Thursday. He was born in Auburn Dec.
12, 1848 and with his brother, William, learned the tinner’s trade there.
During the Civil War he and his brother ran away from home twice to enlist in
the Army and both succeeded. Soon after the Civil War, the brothers came to
Kendallville where he began work for A.B. Park. Later he formed a partnership
with George Bliss. He married Lou Hartsuck who died in 1922. There were
no children. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. Surviving are one
brother, Frank of Chicago. Funeral Saturday from the

Zern Lou, 66, died this morning at her home, 109 S. State St.
from uremic poisoning. She was born June 30, 1875 at Orangeville, DeKalb County,
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George D. Hartsuck. In 1861 the family moved to
this city and since that time she had been a resident here. She attended the
local schools and attained her education in music at the Fort Wayne Conservatory
of Music. On May 21, 1873 she was united in marriage to Lee Zern, retired
plumber and tinner of this city, who survives. For more than a quarter century
she was Presbyterian Church organist. She probably gave more children’s
entertainments and musical concerts than any other person in this city.
Surviving are her husband; 2 sisters, Mrs. A. M. Bower of Inglewood,
Cal., Mrs. L. P. Holbrook, Olympia, Wash.; 2 brothers, S.J. and G.W. of

home. She was born in Kendallville April 18, 1889, the daughter of Jacob and

Kendallville Nov. 11, 1902, the daughter of John and Lydia (Smith) Henry. On
Oct. 18, 1924 in Noble County, she married Clarence Ziebell, who died in Feb.
1965. She was a former part-time employee of Hosler Realty and was a member of
St. John Lutheran Church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. John (Joan) Myers of Pensacola,
Fla.; 2 sisters, Mrs. T. L. (Juanita) Castator of Fort Wayne ,and Mrs. A. L.
(Mildred) Martin of South Bend; and 2 granddaughters, Janna Myers of Pensacola

Ziebell Esther Amelia, 97, formerly of Kendallville, died Saturday in
Sacred Heart Home in Avilla. She was born in Kendallville on January 16,
1896 to Paul and Amelia (Gappinger) Klinkenberg. On December 10, 1919 in
Kendallville she married Harry Ziebell. He died February 4, 1987.
She was a homemaker and a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church in
Kendallville. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Edwin (Marjorie) Misselhorn
of Fort Wayne; a brother, Robert Klinkenberg of Kendallville; 2 granddaughters,
Sandra Burns and Nancy Kasdorf of Fort Wayne; 2 great-grandchildren and one

Lutheran Church at Stroh. She was born Dec. 16, 1907 in Orange Twp to
Lester and Rosa (Bauman) Bortner. She married Harold E. Ziebell Dec. 17,
1937. He died in Sept. 1966. She was also preceded in death by a
brother, Maynard Bortner. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Ralph

born in DeKalb County Aug. 20, 1898, the son of Frank and Emma (Busch) Ziebell.
He married Esther Klinkenberg Dec. 10, 1919 in Kendallville. He was a 58-year
employee of McCray Refrigerator, had served as a Kendallville
councilman-at-large under former Mayor William Auman and served 18 years on the

in Kendallville Nursing Home. He was born in DeKalb County Dec. 24, 1912, the
son of Edward and Blanche (Weirich) Ziebell. He was a retired farmer.
Surviving are a sister-in-law, Ethel Ziebell; and 3 nephews, Ralph,
Wolcottville, Walter, Corunna, and Oren Cox, Indianapolis. One brother, Harold,

Ziebell Sue A, 66, of Kendallville, died Sept. 7, 2010 at Parkview Noble
Hospital. She was born in Sturgis, Mich. on Aug. 28, 1944 to D. C. and
Gertrude (Parker) Kurtz. She graduated from Kendallville High School in
1963. She married Walter Ziebell on July 20, 2002 in Kendallville.
She was employed with Starcraft in Topeka, Taylor Shoe Store in Kendallville and
LDM Technologies in Kendallville. Surviviors include her husband; a
daughter, Tanya and Tony Evard of Kendallville; 3 grandchildren, Justin, Abby
and Casey Evard; a sister, Sharon and Larry Hammel of Kendallville; 3 brothers,

Ziegler Jay W, 88, died April 15, 2002 at Miller's Merry Manor in
Columbia City. He was a farmer and a U.S. Army veteran of WW II. He
was a member of Blue River Church of the Brethren. He was born Dec. 3,
1913 in Noble County to Jesse and Lillie (Prough) Zeigler. He graduated in
1934 from Churubusco High School. He married Vera May Long Oct. 16, 1955
in Forreston, Ill. She died April 29, 1984. Surviving are 3 brothers
and 2 sisters-in-law, Clarence Zeigler of Columbia City, Ralph and Dolores and
Allen and Jeanie Zeigler of Churubusco; 6 sisters, Mae Wappes of Mesa, Ariz.,

Wappes and Joy Follis of Fort Wayne. He was preceded in death by 5

Ziesel Hazel, 71, died Tuesday at Elkhart Hospital. She was born
in Cromwell July 7, 1887, the daughter of Henry V. and Helen (Belle Gerkin)
Hursey. She married Edward Clark Ziesel July 12, 1911. They had resided in
LaGrange, Ill. until 1950 when they moved to Ligonier. She was a member of the
Methodist Church. She was a former school teacher in Noble County and the
Elkhart City Schools. Surviving are her husband; a brother, Dr. V. G. Hursey of

Zigler Absalom, 84, an old settler of Orange Twp, died Sunday of apoplexy
at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mary Stienbarger, southeast of
Brimfield. He is survived by his wife, one daughter and 3 sons. Funeral

Zigler Alpharas was born in Morrow County, Ohio, Nov. 28, 1851,
and died at his home in Brimfield on Jan. 23, 1935, being 83
years, 1 month and 25 days of age. His parents were Absalom and Lydia
Zigler and there were 7 children in the family, all of whom have died except two brothers and one sister, Joseph of Paoli, Kansas, Jessiah and
Mrs. Stienbarger of near Brimfield. In 1882 he married Isimia
Craven. They had one daughter, Mrs. Lenna Waldron. She died in May 1932.
He is survived by the wife and 3 grandchildren, Elva, Carl and Raymond Waldron.
He was a member of the Methodist Church at Brimfield. For many years he was
engaged with the right of way department of the New York Central Railroad.

Zigler Eliza Ann (Paul) died at her home in
Jefferson Twp southeast of this city last Friday. She was born in
Penn. Nov. 5, 1835 and died at her home in Noble County May
24, 1907, aged 71 years, 5 months and 21 days. She married Gideon Zigler in 1854.
They had 7 sons and 2 daughter. Five children, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, 6 grandchildren are left. She came
from Richland County, Ohio to Noble County in 1857 and has lived the greater
part of this time on the farm where she died. She joined the Rehoboth Lutheran
Church about 35 years ago. The obsequies were held at the Rehoboth Church May

complications. She was the oldest daughter of Charles O. and Martha Craven and
was born in Morrow County, Ohio, Oct. 23, 1856. She came to Noble County in
girlhood and had resided in Brimfield since. Dec. 11, 1881 she married Alpharas Zigler and
they had one daughter, Mrs. Lenna Waldron, who died in 1932. Her husband died in 1925. In the
Craven family was one brother and 6 sisters. Surviving are the brother, John;
and 3 sisters, Mrs. Sherman Targgart, and Mrs. Simon Granger,
Kendallville, and Mrs. Ella Tryon of LaOtto; and 3 grandchildren, Elva, Carl and

Zigler James D was born in Noble County, Aug. 30, 1859. He died April 13, 1928, having attained the age of 68 years, 7 months
and 13 days. When a young man he went to Wichita, Kansas and while there became
acquainted with May Grubb who was also a native of Indiana and whom he
married April 30, 1889. One son, Earl, whose home is in Randolph,
Mass., was born to them. The wife died April 5, 1907, after which he continued
to make his home in Wichita until about a year ago when he came to Indiana. He

Zigler Russell M, 87, died Feb. 20, 2002 at Parkview Noble
Hospital. He was employed by the Rose Hill Cemetery Association 1952-1965
and the town of Albion for the cemetery until 1985. He was a WW II
veteran, serving in the U.S. Army 1943-1952. He was born May 1, 1914 in
Albion to Emry and Mary Elvira (McNeal) Zigler. He was preceded in death
by 2 brothers, Robert and James; and 2 sisters, Letha Nicodemus and Hazel Zigler.

Ziler Ella May, about 90, died June 3, 1950 in Kimmell at the home of her
son-in-law and daughter, Rev. and Mrs. Martin Spacht. Also surviving is a

Zimmer Barnhart, 84, died Nov. 28 at the residence
of Henry Ebey. Funeral will probably take place on Thursday. ^ 11-30-1882
Zimmer Florian, who just passed his 75th birthday, was born in Ettlingen,
Baden on Aug. 24, 1832. He enlisted at Carlsruhe as a drummer boy with the
troops at the age of 15 and for 2 years led the Germans to the music of his
rattling sticks. He was a corporal during the last year of his
services. The last night of the service when the troops had retreated to
Constance for surrender he slept on a stone. He received $160 for his 5
years of fighting and at the surrender the men lost everything but their
clothing. He still has a clothes brush which is his only memento of the
days in the rebellion. He remained at home a few months after the
surrender and then persuaded his father to bring the family to America.
Jacos Sheets and Samuel Sessler of this city came from the same vicinity at
about the same time. They settled in Henry County, Ohio in 1854 and 2
years later moved to Noble County. He married Mary Ann Shenneman of Wawaka
in 1859. Their 6 daughters are: Mrs. Thomas E. Franks, Mishawaka, Mrs.
James Polson and Mrs. Vern Stuff, Elkhart, Mrs. Schuyler Hilliard, Kendallville,
Mrs. Jacob Ramer, Elkhart Twp, and Mrs. Henry Becker, York Twp. At the
opening of the Civil War he drummed for Captain Braden at the enlisting

Zimmerman A Max, 86, of rural Ligonier, died at Northridge Village in Albion on December
31, 2010. He was born October 16, 1924 to Clyde and Eva (Billman) Zimmerman in Elkhart County. On May 3, 1946 he
married Donnabelle Chiddister in Franklin. He worked with his brother
as an equipment operator for Zimmerman Excavating in Fort Wayne until
retirement. Surviving are his children, M. Dean Zimmerman (Chris) of West Point; Rick G. Zimmerman of Hudson;
Gene A. Zimmerman of Ligonier; Kelly J. (Bob) Kelley of Rome City; and a
brother, Robert J. Zimmerman; 3 grandchildren, Ryan Zimmerman; Erin McLaughlin;

1919 in Noble County. She lived most of her life in Noble and Steuben Counties.
She was a member of United Methodist Church in Angola. Surviving are 2

Zimmerman B G, 78, former Avilla resident, died Friday in the
Findlay, Ohio, hospital. He was born Dec. 13, 1884, at Albion and was a resident
of Avilla from 1923-1932. He was a freight agent for the B & O Railroad and
also served on the town board of Avilla. He had recently lived at Deshler, Ohio,
where he was freight agent for B&O until his retirement in January, 1962. He
was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Methodist Church at Deshler. Mr. and
Mrs. Zimmerman belonged to the Eastern Star in Avilla. Survivors include the
wife, Zoe; one son, Robert, Avilla; two daughters, Mrs. Winfield King and Mrs.
Herbert Miller, both of Columbus Grove, Ohio; and 14 grandchildren. Funeral Monday afternoon at the Dubbs Funeral Home in Deshler and

Zimmerman Carletta, 49, wife of Levi Zimmerman, died at her home
in Wakefield, Neb. Feb. 28. She was born March 30, 1840 at Big Prairie, Wayne
County, Ohio, the daughter of Augustus and Olive Eddy. She was married in 1862
in Noble County. She was the mother of 3 children, all of whom survive her.

Zimmerman Cecil Delbert, 78, of Brimfield, died at his residence July 17,
2005. He was born March 28, 1927 to Glenn Magnuson and Mabel
Ackerman. His stepfather, William Zimmerman, raised him. On June 17,
1944 in LaGrange he married Helen Gibson. He was a member of Wolcottville
Church of God and a foreman for many years at Kendallville Foundry.
Surviving are his wife; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Erma and Gerald
Klopfenstein of Brimfield and Edwina and Jim Patrick of Warsaw; 5 sons and their spouses, Danny and Cathy of LaGrange,
Morris and Patricia of Wolf Lake, Rick of Brimfield, Quent and Dee Dee of Wawaka
and Christopher and Christina (all Zimmerman) of Wolcottville; 23
grandchildren; and 50 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were 2
daughters, Loletta Howard in 1977 and Tracie Zimmerman in 1985; and a grandson,

was born in Tiffin, Seneca County, Ohio, July 15, 1864, and died July 13, aged 58 years, 11 months and 28 days. She

Blanch, who is training for a nurse in a Chicago hospital. She moved with her
parents from Ohio when a child 12 years old and has resided in and near Albion
ever since. She leaves her husband, Ross, and daughter, Blanch; 2

his life, died Sept. 21, 1958 while being taken by ambulance to the
St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne. A retired farmer, he suffered a heart attack
earlier that day at his home northwest of Brimfield. He was born Dec. 15, 1878
at Cosperville and was a member of the Cosperville Baptist Church. Surviving are
the widow, Edith; one son, Gerald at home; one sister, Mrs. Edith Franks of

Oakmont, Pa. He worked for many years at South Side Market and also at
Maloley's. He was a WW II Army veteran and a member of VFW and the Odd
Fellows. He was born Sept. 9, 1910 in Rome City to Clinton and Ida
(Marshall) Zimmerman. On Aug. 22, 1934 he married Miriam Holcomb.

On May 3, 1946 in Franklin, Ind., she married A. Max Zimmerman. Surviving
are her husband; 3 sons and a daughter-in-law, M. Dean and Chris of West Point,

Wawaka. She was a member of Cosperville Baptist Church. Surviving are a son,
Gerald, R. 1, Wawaka; 3 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was

Zimmerman Elizabeth Ann died Jan. 6. Funeral was Saturday. She was born Dec. 8, 1861 in Ohio, the daughter
of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Ryan and was 76 years and 28 days old at
death. In 1884 the family moved to Missouri and the following year she was
married to Daniel T. Zimmerman. The couple then moved to Wawaka where they have
resided since. In 1920 he died. They had 3 children,
all of whom survive, Mrs. Mabel Rendel and Harry R. of Gary, and George
J. who made his home with his mother. Other survivors include 5

Wawaka High School and married Harry R. Zimmerman. She spent her married life in
Gary until their retirement in 1955 when they moved to St. Petersburg, Fla. She
is survived by 3 sons, Max D. of Hobart, Robert W. of Munster and Harry L. of
Highland; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by

Church of the Nazarene and was employed at Frick Lumber in Brimfield for more
than 25 years. He was born in Wawaka March 12, 1912 to Daniel and Edith
(Weaver) Zimmerman. He married Madeline Hart Aug. 8, 1936 in
Kendallville. Surviving are his wife in Fla.; 2 sons, Charles of Fort
Wayne and Philip of Hamilton; a daughter, Sandra Kay Kloepper of Berne; 7

Zimmerman Henry G, 83, the oldest member of the Noble County Bar
Association, died Sunday at his home in Ligonier. Death was the result
of a fall he suffered several weeks ago while attending court at Albion. The
accident occurred as he was descending the stairway at the courthouse. He
practiced law in Albion for many years before locating permanently in Ligonier
and prior to taking up the profession of an attorney, he served for some time as
superintendent of the Noble County Schools. During the early years of his life
he was known as "the Abraham Lincoln of Northern Indiana" because of
his vigorous support of President Lincoln in the latter’s efforts to overcome
the rebellion. He was a Democrat; however, and only a few years ago was a
candidate for judge of the appellate court on the Democratic ticket. Surviving
are the widow, Mrs. Ida Zimmerman, and two sons, Harry of Chicago, and Bayard G.

Zimmerman J C Mrs. died at her residence on N. Main St. July 11, 1890,
about 43. A daughter of John Young, ex-auditor of Noble County, she was a member

Zimmerman John was born May 13, 1818 in Berne, Switzerland. In 1833 in
the 15th year of his age he came with his parents to this country and
made their home in Ohio. The 22nd of March 1841 he married Susan
Schrantz and with his wife came to Indiana and made his home in Elkhart Twp. They
had 5 sons and 5 daughters. A son and a daughter, have died. Also his wife died. May 1, 1865 he married Eva Hoffman. They had 2 daughters. One of these died before the father. In 1858 he united with
the M. E. Church (German). He died Dec. 28, 1895, aged 77 years 7 months and 15 days. His widow, 4 son, 5 daughters, one stepson (Uriah
Hoffman, now superintendent of schools in LaSalle County, Ill.), 34

LaGrange County Hospital. A building contractor, he had lived at Lake Wawasee
for the past 8 years. In 1908 he was married at Chicago, Ill. to Marie Mente. He
was born in Austria Dec. 27, 1887 and came to this country in 1906. Surviving
are his wife; 2 sons, John G., and Charles; and one daughter, Mrs. John P. Henry

Elkhart Twp, died at the Elkhart Hospital last Monday. He was principal of the

Kendallville. She was born June 22, 1910 in Brimfield, the daughter of
Edward and Zoe (Young) Ackerman. She was a homemaker and attended the
Mountain Assembly Church of God, Wolcottville. She married William
Zimmerman in 1929 in Brimfield. He died in 1982. Survivors include a
son, Cecil, Brimfield; 3 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 11
great-great-grandchildren; and 2 brothers, Robert and Ralph Ackerman of
LaGrange. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, 4 sisters and 2

Souder R-4th. Surviving are 3 daughters, Kay E. Saunders and Carolyn S.
McKinney of Fort Wayne, and Connie L. Hallenbeck of Coldwater, Mich.; 4 sons,

Zimmerman Melissa B, 96, of Berne died December 31, 2009, at Swiss
Village Retirement Community, Berne. She was born in South Milford on August 10,
1913, to Charles Sherman and Ruby (Martin) Hart. She married Gerald Weaver
Zimmerman on August 8, 1936, in Kendallville. He preceded her in death on Feb.
16, 2003. She was a nurse’s aide at McCray Hospital in Kendallville for
many years and she last worked in Dr. Carl Stallman’s office in the 1960s
before she retired in the early 1970s. She was a member of the Mt. Hope Church
of the Nazarene in Berne. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law,
Charles and Rita Zimmerman of Fort Wayne and Philip and Beverly Zimmerman of
Hamilton Lake; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and David Kloepper of Berne;
seven grandchildren, Lauren and Alan Moyer, David and Desiree Zimmerman, and

Zimmerman Melvin, 13, son of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Zimmerman of
Kendallville, died at Lakeside Hospital of a skull fracture and body bruises. He
was hurt when he ran into the side of an automobile driven by George Kurtz. The
accident occurred shortly after the noon hour at an alley entrance on State St.
Hospital was unable to identify the boy until his parents reported to police

Zimmerman Nathan, formerly of Noble County, died at Manistee, Mich. Dec.
6. He was born in Union County, Penn. Dec. 9, 1816. When a young man he moved
with his father’s family to Richland County, Ohio, and on Sept. 19, 1839 in
Mansfield, Ohio, he married Cornelia Gray. They had 3 sons and 3
daughters, all of whom survive except one son. In 1849 they moved to DeKalb
County, Ind., and a few years later to Noble County where he cleared and
improved a tract of land making them a beautiful home. Some 4 years since he
resigned his farming occupation and engaged in mercantile work at Eastlake,
Mich. His remains were interred in Lake View Cemetery in Kendallville on Dec. 9.
He was a member of the Methodist Protestant Church at Allen Chapel. ^ 12-14-1888

years. He was born in Ashland County, Ohio May 11, 1837; died in Kendallville

More, he had 6 children, 2 of whom, a son and a daughter, survive. For 4 years
he was a soldier in the late war, after which he came to this place where he has
resided ever since. Seven years ago he was married to Mary Thacker, who

H. McKee Dec. 18, 1936. She survives, as does his mother who lives in Columbus

She was a 16-year Kendallville resident who moved here from Wolcottville. She
was a member of the Women of the Moose and the Women’s Auxiliary of the

Zimmerman Sarah was quite young when her parents emigrated to Noble County. She was a daughter of Abram Brown who settled in Elkhart Twp
near the present town of Wawaka in 1836 or 1837.
Her father died several years ago. Her mother is still living at an advanced age. She was married to Jacob C. Zimmerman about 25 years ago, and
he with 3 children survive. She was a member of the M. E. Church. Albion

Zimmerman Sophia died at her home on W. Rush St. Saturday. She
was past 72 years of age, born in Hanover, Germany, coming to this country when
she was 13. She married Henry Zimmerman in Chicago, afterward living in Fort
Wayne, Waterloo, and came to Kendallville about 30 years go. Surviving are her
sons Paul, George, Charles, Stephen and Henry - 4 are living here and Henry
somewhere in the east. One daughter, Mrs. Carrie Cole of Battle Creek and her
grandchild, Ethel Lehr, who has always made her home with Mrs. Zimmerman.

Elkhart Hospital from injuries received in a one-car accident July 2. Born in

Zimmerman Walter E, 98, died Wednesday in the Lutheran
Home. Born in Kosciusko County March 14, 1879, he was the son of Jacob L. and
Minerva (Millhouse) Zimmerman. He married Gertrude E. Frick Dec. 7, 1901 in
Wawaka. She died Dec. 28, 1959. He had lived in Kendallville since 1914 coming
from the Wawaka-Brimfield area. He had a grocery store for 14 years in
Brimfield. He was a ticket agent for the interurban for 3 years and had been
employed by Cline Brothers Lumber Co. for 36 years. Survivors are one son, Aldon
G., Fort Wayne; one sister, Mrs. Marie Kemp, Andrews; 4 grandchildren; 9
great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. A son, four brothers and 2

Zimmerman William Ross was born Feb. 2, 1861 on a farm in Jefferson Twp
just south of Skinner Lake. He was one of 7 children born to John and Mary
Zimmerman, all of whom with the parents have died except 2 sisters. They
are Mrs. Mary Wagner of Bellville, Ohio, and Mrs. Oscar Castator of South
Milford. In 1885 he was married to Christena Wick who died in 1923. They had one daughter, Blanche, who is now Mrs. M. D. Corelli of
N.Y.C. For many
years he owned a farm joining the farm on which he was born. In his younger days
he was a carpenter, working far and wide in building churches, barns and houses.

Cemetery, the victim of pneumonia. He died at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne

Noble County; and 3 sisters, Marie of LaOtto, Altha of New York City, and Mrs.
Myrtle Sloffer of Eel River Twp. Funeral was in the United Brethren Church. He
was born March 19, 1892 in Noble County, the son of George and Anna Potter Zinn.
He had lived all his life in this community and worked for a number of years in
Ort & Sons Store. He was employed by the General Electric Co. in Fort Wayne
until the depression forced large numbers of men out of work. He had returned
and was working there when he became ill. He was a member of the American
Legion, a World War veteran, the Masonic Lodge and the United Brethren Church. *

Zinn James Melvin, 88, a lifelong resident of LaOtto and this community,
was found dead Tuesday in his trailer at the home of a niece, Mrs. Robert Minier,
R.1, LaOtto. It was thought that he had died about midnight. The body was
discovered about 5:30 p.m. A retired railroader and farmer, he was born Oct. 28,
1882, the son of the late David L. and Lena (LeJeune) Zinn. He was a member of
the Eagles Lodge, Kendallville. Surviving besides the niece is one brother,

Zinn Lewis Earl, 83, was born in Swan Twp July 22, 1889 to David L. and
Mary Magdelena (LeJeune) Zinn. On November 12, 1924 he married his wife
Elizabeth in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mishawaka. She preceded him
in death Dec. 12, 1972. He was formerly employed at the Studebaker Co. in South
Bend and the Elkhart Trailer Manufacturing Co. He was a WW I veteran. Formerly
of Mishawaka, he died Friday at the VA Hospital in Fort Wayne. One niece, Mrs.
Frona Minier of LaOtto, survives. He was preceded in death by one sister, Zelma

Zinn Marie, 88, sister of Mrs. Glen Sloffer, R. 3, Churubusco, died Sept.
4 in the Lutheran Home. She was a former resident of the Mishawaka and Goshen
area where she retired as a first grade teacher in 1961. She lived in Fort Wayne

the earthquake on Tuesday. He is survived by his wife, Vivian and one son

Zinn Ray, 61, died Sunday after suffering a heart attack at Smith Lake, near (line missing) had been visiting a cousin,
Earl Zinn. A resident of Fort Wayne, he was born February 8, 1891, in LaOtto. He
was a veteran of WW I. Three daughters, Shirley and Patricia Zinn, of
Kendallville, and Mrs. Glenn Knapp of Rome City, one son, Elmer of Fort Wayne,
three sisters, Miss Marie Zinn of Mishawaka, Miss Altha Zinn of New York and
Mrs. Glen Sloffer of Churubusco, one brother, Glenn of Angola, and three

Zinn Thelma J, 71, of Checotah, Okla., died March 21, 2008 at Muskogee
Regional Medical Center, Muskogee, Okla. She served her career in the U.S.
Army. She was born Dec. 7, 1936 in Garrett to George Glen and Wava Sue
(Schultz) Zinn. Survivors include 2 sisters, Beverly Riccius of Checotah,
and Irene Miller of Butler. She was preceded in death by a brother, Cleo

Zircher Magdalena, 93, died Saturday in Sacred Heart Home,
Avilla. She was born Jan. 20, 1881 in Smithfield Twp, DeKalb County, to George
and Agnes (Schoudel) May. In Nov. 1906 she married Andrew Zircher in St. Michael’s
Catholic Church, Waterloo. He died in 1940. A resident of Kendallville 1 ½
years, she was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Waterloo. Surviving

and former owner of Zollinger Rent-a-Trailer, Elkhart. Surviving are the wife; 4
sons, Adolphus, Elizabethton, Tenn., John Allen, LaPuente, Calif., Donald,
Elkhart, and LaMar, Adamsville, Mich.; and 11 grandchildren; 22

Zollinger Dorothy Alice, 83, who resided in the home of her son in Ormond
Beach, Fla., died Friday. She was born in Albion April 22, 1910 to George
and Rachel Campbell, one of 10 children. She attended Stanley
School. In 1931 she married John Allen Zollinger, also of Albion, and they
lived in Elkhart and South Bend before moving to California in 1948. He
died in 1983 in LaPuente, Calif. Surviving are a daughter, Janice Redfield
of Kendallville; a son, Ronald of Ormond Beach; 5 grandchildren, Les Redfield of
Orange, Calif., Gary Redfield of Winter Park, Colo., Doreen Caldwell of Albion,

Zollinger Flossie M, 92, died earlier this month in Tampa, Fla. A
native of Albion, she was wintering with her niece, Mrs. Ruth Barnes in
Zephyrhills, Fla. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Frazure, had been in the
bakery, restaurant and confection business in the Albion and Wolf Lake area in
the last century. Her mother, Emma Dingman, was the daughter of Adam Dingman,
farmer and lumber dealer with extensive holdings in the Port Mitchell area a
hundred years ago and more. Through him she was related to Mrs. Frances Dingman
who built the first permanent dwelling in Kendallville in 1833. She married
Alpha J. Zollinger in Noble County on July 9, 1905. He died in 1914. Surviving
are 4 sons, Adolphus J., Elizabethton, Tenn., John A., LaPuente, Calif., Donald
K., Elkhart, and LaMar L., Adamsville, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; 34
great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. She retired from Miles

Zollman Elmer E, 79, of Kendallville, died Sunday in Kendallville Manor
Healthcare Center. He was born in Kendallville January 12, 1917 to Edgar and
Cora Lena (Hayes) Zollman. On October 14, 1940 he married Lois C. Gross. She died
November 20, 1984. He had been a plumbing and heating contractor and
retired in 1980. He had been the attendant at the Kendallville transfer
site since February 1988. He was a WW II U.S. Navy veteran, a member of
VFW Post 2749, American Legion Post 86 and Elks Lodge 1194. Surviving are
a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Suellen) Ream of Churubusco; 2 sons, Dean of Manhattan,
Kan., and Steven of Corunna; a sister, Eleanor Atkins of Post Falls, Idaho; 9

Kendallville, she married Elmer Zollman. She was a member of Faith United
Methodist Church and charter member of VFW Auxiliary. Surviving are her husband;

Parkview Hospital. He was born July 30, 1908 in Whitley County, the son of Clem
and Nora Zumbrun Zolman. He married Zelma Wolf. He was retired from Lincoln
Manufacturing Co. in Fort Wayne and was a member of the Fort Wayne Eagles Lodge.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Joe Thad, Merriam; a daughter, Sondra Montel,
Kendallville; two grandchildren, Frank J. and Tawny Montel, Kendallville, and a

Zolman Arthur Edward, 74, a native of Albion, and a 33-year resident of
Tacoma, died of complications from heart surgery May 4 in Tacoma General Hospital,
Tacoma, Washington. He was born June 20, 1923 in Albion to Edward Raymond and
Estella (Gordon) Zolman. He graduated from Avilla High School in 1942. He
married Mildred Gloria Marks on Jan. 1, 1943 in Indiana. He served 5 years in
the Army Air Corps as a fighter pilot and bomber during WW II, stationed in
Europe. He was a police officer in Indiana and later employed by the Federal
Civil Service at Mt. Rainier Ordnance Depot, Fort Lewis, Wash. until its closure
and as a shop foreman at Keyport Naval Station, Bangor, Wash., retiring in 1984.
He is survived by his wife; 3 sons; a daughter; 13 grandchildren; one
great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, Guy of Avilla; and a

products for 21 years and drove a school bus for a brief period. She was a
member of Merriam Christian Chapel. She was born Dec. 27, 1908 to Homer
and Lily Fleck Shaffer in Whitley County. She married Clyde D. Zolman Nov.
6, 1927. He died Sept.14, 1993. Also preceding her in death was a
brother, Olin Shaffer. Surviving are 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara

Zolman Clyde D, 87, died Tuesday at Whitley County Hospital. He was
born January 6, 1906 in Paw Paw, Mich., to Clem and Nora (Zumbrun) Zolman.
He married Beulah E. Shaffer on November 6, 1927. She survives. He
graduated from Churubusco High School in 1925. He spent most of his life
as a farmer in Smith Twp. In addition to farming, he was employed at the
Blue Bell Co. in Columbia City for 10 years. He attended Blue River Church
of God, Good News Baptist Church and Merriam Christian Chapel. Surviving
also are 2 daughters, Mrs. Donald (Barbara Lou) Bonar and Mrs. Larry (DeLara)
Miller of Columbia City; 3 sons, Dean E. of Churubusco, Nick L. of Fort Wayne,

Zolman Ernest, 10, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Zolman, died today at Sacred
Heart Hospital in Garrett. Injured when he was run over by a truck from which he
fell near his home Monday, he died from peritonitis which developed from a
ruptured bladder and other internal injuries. The accident happened when he
attempted to climb over the side onto the running board of the slowly moving
truck driven by James Pepple, 59, of LaOtto, and slipped. Surviving are the

Zolman Estella, 78, of R. 1, Avilla, died Aug. 28 at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Leo Pippenger of Swan. She was born May 24, 1900 to Jasper and
Samantha Benhower Gordon of Noble County. She married Edward R. Zolman July 9,
1919 and they lived on Whitley and Noble County farms before his death in
December 1955. She was a member of Hopewell Church. In addition to her daughter,
she is survived by two sons, Arthur of Tacoma, Wash., and Guy of R. 1, Avilla;
13 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. Three brothers, Jesse, William and

Zolman Florence, 67, a resident of LaOtto for the past 40 years, died Friday in McCray Hospital. Monday the body was taken to the
Emmanuel Lutheran Church in LaOtto to lie in state until funeral services were

native of Whitley County, she was born near Columbia City, January 14, 1893,

Zolman Terry L, 64, of rural Albion died December 14, 2011, at Parkview
Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was born in Fort Wayne on July 31, 1947, a son of
Clyde D. and Beulah Ella (Shaffer) Zolman. He graduated from Churubusco High
School in 1965. He attended Appalachian Bible College, the Moody Bible
Institute, and later graduated from Fort Wayne Bible College. On August
12, 1967, he was married in Merriam to Julie A. Herron. He had worked at Bonar
Construction, served for four years as a missionary to New Zealand, and had been
the senior pastor of the Merriam Christian Chapel since 1979. Surviving are his
wife; 3 children, Chad (Christine) Zolman of Fort Wayne and Tera (Tim) Andrews
and Bryce (Cori) Zolman, both of rural Albion; 4 siblings, Barbara Lou (Donald)

October 29, 2002 at Parkview Hospital. She had
been a resident of Heritage Park Nursing Home for 2 years. She was born
September 29, 1915 in Lima, Ohio, to William and Bertha (Mikesell) Wolff.
Her husband, Archie A. Zolman, died August 28, 1982. Surviving are a
stepdaughter and her husband, Sondra and Frank Montel of LaOtto; a stepson, Joe
Zolman of South Whitley; 2 grandchildren, Tawny Hinrichsen of Orlando, Fla., and
Frank Montel III of Petoskey, Mich.; and 6 great-grandchildren. Three

Zonker Anthony, son of Joseph and Mary (Roth) Zonker, was born near
Lancaster, Penn. Sept. 23, 1818. Two years later his parents moved to Venango
County, Penn. This country was a great wilderness at that time; great forests
and many large animals abounded. Five years later his parents moved to Stark
County, Ohio. When he was 16 he moved with his parents to Seneca County, Ohio.
He remained here until at the age of 26 he came to DeKalb County, Fairfield Twp.
July 16, 1846 he married Elizabeth Hosler. They had 9 children - 4 girls, Mary Jane
Kunderd, Margaret Ann Weingart, Eliza Ellen Hartman and
Emma Zonker. The sons were Wayne, Samuel, Eli, John Edward and William A. Of
these, Samuel, Emma and Eli preceded him in death. In 1845 he bought
110 acres of land which he commenced to improve. In 1855 he sold this land and
bought a saw mill on the outlet of Indian Lake which he ran ten years. He was
successful and in the meantime bought a large tract of land and subsequently
quit the milling business. He leaves 36 grandchildren and 22
great-grandchildren. Two of his grandchildren were named in his honor - one,
the young man who was murdered last August, the other, a great-grandson, Anthony
Kunderd. Death came Dec. 10, 1905. Burial, Fairfield Center Cemetery. ^ 1-5-1906

Zonker Mabel S, 78, R. 3, Kendallville, died Friday in
McCray Hospital. She was the widow of Charles H. Zonker. She was born May 3,
1903 in Chicago, the daughter of William Thomas and May Sybil (Street) Skinner.
Only nieces and nephews survive. She attended Trinity United Methodist Church
and was a member of Noble Chapter, OES. Services will be Monday in Hite Funeral

Hospital. Born Feb. 26, 1904 in LaGrange, he was the son of Joseph and Myrtle (Loughry)
Zook. His first wife, Clara Hardesty, died in 1965. On Aug. 3, 1969 in Stroh, he
married Enola Baker. He was a retired minister in the Church of God and was
retired from McCray Refrigerator in Kendallville. He was a member of Stroh
Church of God. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Alford (Ramona) Days of
Corunna; 6 stepdaughters, Mrs. John (Betty) Cherry, Mrs. Gerald (Pauline)

Zuber Frank, 73, of Payne, Ohio, was dead on arrival at Parkview Hospital Nov. 13, following an apparent heart attack. He was born Jan. 27,
1906 in Antwerp, Ohio, the son of Leonard and Lena (Melburn) Zuber, and was a
member of St. John Catholic Church in Payne. Surviving are his wife, Isabel; two
sons, Leonard and Russell of Payne; two daughters, Mrs. Beatrice Karr of LaOtto,
and Mrs. Arlene Wobler, Mechanicsburg, Pa.; one brother, four sisters; and 13
grandchildren. The funeral mass was Friday in St. John’s Catholic Church,

Zuber Wayne A, 69, died March 14, 2002 at his home. He was a
retired self-employed water well driller in Fort Wayne. He served in the
U.S. Air Force and was a member of Rome City American Legion Post 381. He
was born July 19 1932 in Fort Wayne to Charles and Lola (Brindel) Zuber.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Lou, of Wolcottville; 2 daughters and sons-in-law,
Lola Brendele and Phil Richards of Sarasota, Fla., and Julie and Joe Gruss of
Columbia City; one son and daughter-in-law, James and Rita Zuber of Fort Wayne;
one sister, Leona Martin of Prairie Village, Kans.; 5 grandchildren, John
Bendele II, Jessica Burkett, Marie, Adam and Tim Zuber; and one great-grandson,
Jacob Bendele. He was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer; and 2 sister,
Mae Renner and Ruth Zuber. Services Monday at Hutchins Funeral Home.

Zuck L Edwin, 74, owner and operator of a dry goods store at Howe since
1921, died Tuesday in LaGrange County Hospital. Funeral is this morning
at St. James Episcopal Chapel at Howe with burial in Riverside Cemetery.
Survivors are the widow, Elizabeth; and 3 sons, Edwin Jr. of Portland, Ore.,
Paul of Flint, Mich., and John of Moultrie, Ga.; and 8 grandchildren. He was a
lifelong resident of the Howe area, born April 24, 1886 to Perry and Caroline
Keefus Zuck. He married Elizabeth Wade of Howe in June 1912. He taught for 6

Zuehsow Trent A, 19, LaOtto, died February 8, 2003 as the result of a
traffic accident on S.R. 63 south of U.S. 36 in Hillsdale near Terre
Haute. He was born in Fort Wayne January 2, 1984 to Paul and Suzanne M. (Ebersole)
Zuehsow. He was a lifelong LaOtto resident. Surviving are
his parents; one brother, Dalen of LaOtto; 2 sisters, Lynette Nandi and Kim
Zuehsow of Arlington, Va.; and his grandmother, Laura Zuehsow of Garrett.
He was a 2002 graduate of East Noble High School and a freshman at the
University of Evansville. Services in Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Zumbaugh Clara, 78, of Albion, and widow of Ervin Zumbaugh, a B&O
engineer, died last Tuesday (d. 12-6-1955) in Sacred Heart
Hospital. Final rites were Friday at Bonham & Miser Funeral Home in Albion.
Burial, Rose Hill Cemetery. She was born Oct. 17, 1877 on a farm south of
Albion, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Wilson. She and Mr. Zumbaugh
were married June 30, 1904 and they immediately went to housekeeping on S.
Peters St. in Garrett. He retired from the B&O in 1943 after 39 years of
service and died Oct. 28, 1954. Surviving are 2 sons, John of Garrett, and Edrie
of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Mrs. Porter Black of Albion; 3 brothers, John, who
lived with her, Adam of Wolf Lake, and James of Lakeland, Fla.; one sister, Mrs.
Susan Madison of Albion; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She was a
member of the I.S. to P.I.F. & E. of Garrett and Rebekahs of Albion. She is

Zumbaugh Edrie B, about 64, of R. 1, Syracuse, died Jan. 25, 1970 at Goshen Hospital. He was born Nov. 9, 1905 in Garrett, the son
of Ervin and Clara (Wilson) Zumbaugh. He was married Dec. 1, 1928 to Josephine
Baker in Ligonier. He was a salesman and formerly lived in Waterloo, moving to
Lake Wawasee about 2 years ago. Surviving are his wife; one brother, John of

Zumbaugh Ervin, 74, (b.3-17-1880) died Oct. 29, 1954 at his Albion home. Before coming to Albion to live, he had been a
resident of Garrett for 14 years. He was a B&O Railroad engineer and had
retired in 1943 after serving for 39 years. He was a member of the Brotherhood
of Locomotive Engineers and the Elks Lodge of Garrett. Surviving are the widow,
Clara; one daughter, Mrs. Porter Black of Albion; 2 sons, John of Garrett, and
Edrie of Fort Wayne; 5 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and 4 brothers, Rev.

Zumbaugh John A, 60, 507 E. Quincy St., Garrett, was dead on arrival at
Garrett Hospital Monday. He suffered a heart attack. He was an
electric motor repairman. He retired as a B&O Railroad conductor in 1957. He
was born in Garrett on Aug. 19, 1917 and lived there most of his life. He
married Madelaine Crager in Winchester, Ind. on Aug. 28, 1973. Surviving are his
wife; a daughter, Mrs. Gary Laub of Butler, and 2 sons, John E. and Michael W.
of Garrett. He was a member of Butler Eagles, Garrett Elks, United

Zumbrun Fern, 34, R. 4, Columbia City, died at the Lutheran Hospital Friday. Surviving are the husband, Owen R.; 5 children, Jean Irene,

Zumbrun Harry E, 21, proprietor of a filling station northwest of
Churubusco, was killed in a brutal attack by Clarence E. Thomas, who was
sentenced to death in the electric chair for the murder. Robbery was the motive
as he said he became desperate for money after his losses at playing poker in
Fort Wayne. He said he first slugged Zumbrun with a hammer handle and then as
Zumbrun resisted he crushed his skull with the hammer head. He then returned to
the station, and took a butcher knife and slashed and hacked the throat to make
sure he was dead. Zumbrun is survived by the widow and a 16-months old son, Ken;
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Omar Zumbrun; one brother, Gene; 3 sisters, Kathryn of
Fort Wayne, and Mary Jane and Edith at home. Funeral Sunday at Blue River

Zumbrun John Edward, 73, of Kimmell, died Oct. 14, 2008 at Lutheran
Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was employed by J.I. Case in Churubusco and
then for Lyall Electric in Kendallville, and retired from B&J Specialties in
Brimfield. He was also a life-long farmer. He was a member of Blue
River Church of the Brethren and Wolf Lake Volunteer Fire Dept. He
graduated from Wolf Lake High School in 1953. He was born Sept. 28, 1935
in Noble County to Oras D. and Jesse (Smith) Zumbrun. He married Miriam
Swinger on Aug. 16, 1953. Surviving are his wife; 3 children and their
spouses, Michael and Dawn Zumbrun of Indianapolis, Marla and Sheldon Bailey of
Quincy, Ill., and Melvin and Teresa Zumbrun of Warren; 12 grandchildren; 2
brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Sherril Zumbrun of Albion and Thomas and
Almeda Zumbrun of Millersburg; and a sister, Mary Lou Wolf of Peru. He was

Zumbrun Maydene, 97, of Albion, died Dec. 23, 2007 at Betz Nursing Home
in Auburn. She was born March 3, 1910 in Elkhart County to Roy and Edith
(Eldridge) Lohrei. She was a member of Rehoboth Missionary Church in rural
Albion. She married Obra V. Zumbrun on Nov. 2, 1929 at Blue River Church
of the Brethren in Columbia City. He died April 24, 1997. Surviving
are a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Jan Zumbrun of rural Albion; 2
daughters and sons-in-laws, Carolyn and Alan Critchfield of Fort Wayne and Kay
and Charles Stanley of Whiteland; 8 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 5
great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Bert

Zumbrun Obra V, 91, of Albion, died today in Kendallville Manor Health
Care Center. He was born in Green Twp, Noble County, August 27, 1905, to
Noah and Della (Anspaugh) Zumbrun. On November 2, 1929 in Blue River
Church of the Brethren, he married Maydene Lohrei. She
survives. A lifetime area resident, he was a farmer and member of Blue
River Church of the Brethren in Columbia City. Surviving also are 2
daughters, Carolyn Critchfield of Fort Wayne and Kay Stanley of Nashville,
Tenn.; a son, Wayne of Albion; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one

Zumbrun Robert L, 74, of Columbia City, died May 1, 2009. He was
born Nov. 6, 1934, a son of Owen and Fern (Quinn) Zumbrun. He graduated
from Columbia City High School and served in the U.S. Air Force during the
Korean Conflict. He owned Zumbrun Auto Sales, retiring in 1997. He
married Elizabeth Harvey Truman on July 15, 1973 in Las Vegas. He was a
member of Columbia City United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 98 and
Columbia City Eagles Lodge. Surviving are his wife; 2 daughters, Mary
(Dan) Avery of Fort Wayne and Jerry McGhgy of Fowler, Ill.; 5 grandchildren,
Brian, Geoffrey and Matthew Avery, Adam Price and Travis Sloan; a stepson; 12

Zumbrun Rosemary J, 36, R. 4, Albion, was killed as the automobile she
was driving crashed broadside into a truck at an Elkhart County Road
intersection Tuesday. She apparently passed a stop sign. Born
April 1, 1942 in Noble County, she was the daughter of Cecil "Zeke"
and Carolyn (Gerals) Bair. She married Tom Zumbrun Feb. 5, 1961. She was a
lifetime resident of Noble County and was employed by Starcraft Topeka.
Survivors include her parents; her husband; 2 daughters, Rebecca and Sarah; one
son, Mark; one sister, Mrs. Larry (Barbara) Wilkinson, R. 1, Kimmell; and her
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gerals, R. 2, Albion. Funeral Friday at

Zumbrun Taylor M, 77, R. 3, Columbia City, died Dec. 29, 1976 at his
home. He was a retired farmer and former school bus driver. He was born in Noble
Twp to Jeremiah and Nora Winebrenner Zumbrun. His youth was spent
on the Zumbrun farm north of Round Lake in Thorncreek Twp, Whitley County. On
June 10, 1920 he married Wilda A. Clay. Since 1953 they had lived at their home
5 ½ miles north of Columbia City on SR 109. He retired in 1960. Survivors are
his wife; a son, Harold E. "Spike", R. 3, Columbia City; one daughter,
Mrs. Wayne (Eva Mae) Geiger, R. 3, Columbia City; 8 grandchildren; 26
great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Frank and Ethan, R. 4, Columbia City; Julius,
Columbia City; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Ruth Holden, R. 4, Columbia City and Mrs.
James (Marjorie) Hazen, R. 7, Columbia City. A son, Raymond, died in 1944 while

Zumbrunnen Victor, 75,a retired B & O Railroad blacksmith of Garrett,
died at his home in Garrett Monday from a cerebral hemorrhage. The
body was removed to the McKee Funeral Home at Garrett where funeral services
were held Thursday. Burial, Christian Union Cemetery. He was born
April 8, 1886, in Butler but was a resident of this area for most of his
lifetime. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Zumbrunnen. He and
Hattie Saltsman of Auburn were married in Auburn on Feb. 23, 1916. The couple
resided on a farm southeast of Avilla for 31 years before moving to Garrett in
1957. Surviving besides the wife is a brother, Emil of Garrett. ~ 3-8-1962
