Wackerman Gertrude Anna, 77, died here today at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Kropp. Born in Germany, the daughter of John and Margaret Berkes, she came to America with her parents when she was 5 years old. The ocean trip required 84 days in an old-time sailboat. The family located in Ohio but later came to Noble County. She married George Wackerman about 60 years ago. He died in 1926. They had three children. Surviving are the daughter and one son, Henry of Freeport, Ill. Funeral Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church of which she was a member. + 2-?-1928
Wacknitz Naomi Ruth, 69, of Ellenton, Fla., died Wednesday in Freedom Care Pavilion, Bradenton, Fla. She had been ill a short time with cancer. She was born April 17, 1925 in Porter to Rev. Frederick C. and Goldie E. (Wise) Wacknitz. She was a graduate of North Central College in Naperville, Ill. and had been a home economics teacher for 36 years. She moved to Ellenton in 1984 following her retirement. Surviving are her sister and brother-in-law, Ida and Ora Gisel of Kendallville; 2 nieces and 2 nephews. Waddell Adrian, 81, former Kendallville resident, was born July 18, 1891 in Valentine and married Olive Rex of Kendallville in December 1919. Surviving are the wife; two sons, Robert, Three Rivers, and Donald, Tucson, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and nieces and nephew in the area, Mrs. T. D. Waddell Mary, 69, lifelong resident of Rome City, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Smurr, Wednesday. Her death has removed a pioneer from Rome City. She is survived by a husband and a daughter. Funeral Friday from the Baptist Church. Burial, Osborn Cemetery. ^ 11-23-1911
Waddell Wilbur E, 69, Ligonier, died June 2 at Goshen Hospital from an apparent heart attack. He was born July 2, 1913 in Pierceton. He married Eunice E. Searls July 29, 1939. He was retired from Penn Electric in 1977 after 22 years of service. Surviving are his wife; 3 daughters, Mrs. Earl (Myrna) Dieffenderfer, Union, Mich., Mrs. Donald (Sharon) Best, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mrs. Stanley (Wilburta) Pender, Goshen; one son, Terry, Cromwell; 2 sisters, Thelma Yoder and Mrs. Robert (Evelyn) Searls of New Paris; one brother, Gene of South Bend; 7 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Wade Alfred Allen, who began his mercantile career in LaGrange County at Mongo in 1873, 54 years ago, died on Thursday of last week at his home in Howe. Funeral was Monday from St. James Chapel at Howe School. Burial Riverside Cemetery. He was born on Aug. 11, 1849 in Yorkshire, England near Leeds, the son of Richard and Sarah Williamson Wade. His mother died in England and he and his father came to the United States in 1857, locating on a farm near White Pigeon, Mich. He was married on Sept 8, 1874 to Ella Elleva Chase, whose death occurred ten years later. She was the mother of 3 children, Richard Allen, who died in infancy, Dr. Frank C. and Dr. Alfred A. He was married on March 19, 1885 to Sarah F. Hawk of Mongo. She, with 4 children, Roscoe H. of N.Y.C., Mrs. Leroy E. Zuck of Howe, R. Paul of Boston and Mrs. Harry W. Haglind of Howe; and 12 grandchildren survive. He was a member of St. Mark’s Parish at Howe, a charter member of the Masonic and Pythian Lodges at Howe and a Knight Templar. + No date
Wade Charles W, son of Robert and Jane Giles Wade, was born at Fingall, Canada, Aug. 28, 1840, and died in Springfield Twp, LaGrange County, Ind. April 27, 1911, aged 70 years, 7 months and 29 days. In 1867 he was married to Hattie Waterhouse who died 3 years later. He married Harriet Arrilla Newnam in 1875 and she died in 1904. He lived practically all his life in Springfield Twp on the old home farm northeast of Applemanburg. He was the 5th child of a family of 8 children, Elizabeth, Mary Ann, Sarah Jane and Walter, deceased, John, Helen and Henry surviving. Funeral Friday from the East Springfield Church. + 4-22-1911
Wade Donna Belle, 74, of Syracuse, died in her residence May 16, 1995. She was born October 5, 1920 in Noble County to William and Emmaretta (Ott) Huntsman. On May 27, 1978 she married Harry J. Wade Jr. in Albion. She had lived in Albion and Ligonier before moving to Syracuse in 1983. She retired after 27 years with Monsanto Co. in Ligonier. She was a member of Solomon Creek Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband; 2 stepdaughters, Mrs. Richard (Barbara) DeBolt, and Mrs. Raymond (Edna) Sims; a stepson, Roy C. Wade. Wade Erwin, 68, 401 N. Summit St., Nappanee, died Friday at his home. He was a resident of Ligonier until 8 years ago when he moved to Syracuse Lake. A week ago he moved to Nappanee. Born Dec. 20, 1905, his parents were Norman and Ollie (Crockett) Wade. He married the former Margaret Hewitt in 1930 in Auburn. She survives along with a daughter, Mrs. Rue Dee (Judy) Marker, Bremen; a son, Jerry in the military in Md.; a sister, Mrs. Helen Fancil, Goshen; a brother, Ralph, rural Bristol; and one grandchild. Wade Frank Harold Jr, 85, of Noble County, died Aug. 16, 2008 at his home. He was a farmer and had been employed at Schuman's Trucking and retired from LML in June 1983. A graduate of Wolf Lake High School he served as church pianist for 22 years and was a member of Ormas Baptist Church and Noble County Farm Bureau. He was born June 22, 1923 to Frank and Mildred (Harper) Wade. He married Dorothy Barnes on Jan. 27, 1951. Surviving are his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Lori Wade of Columbia City; 3 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Barbara and Lonnie Halsey, Brenda Reynolds and Linda and Earl Bromley of Columbia City; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Wade Harry J Jr "Jim", 82, of Syracuse, died January 25, 1997 in his residence. He was born in Washington County, Va. to Harry J. and Mary (Johnson) Wade. His first wife, Mary Alice Farne, died in 1971. On May 27, 1978 in Albion he married Donna Belle Huntsman. She died May 16, 1995. He had lived in Berwind, W.Va., before moving to Ligonier in 1962. He was a retired coal miner and had worked at Monsanto Co. in Ligonier and Tower Ribbon in Topeka. He was a member of Solomon Creek United Methodist Church in Syracuse. Surviving are 2 daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Edna) Sims of Greensboro, N.C., and Mrs. Richard (Barbara) DeBolt of Ligonier; a son, Roy of Butler; 2 sisters, Blanche Webb and Evelyn Hart of Bristol, Va.; a brother, Howard of Lakeland, Fla.; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Wade Herbert H, 69, R. 1, Kimmell, died Friday at his residence. He was born July 9, 1917 in Ligonier to Shirley Hostetter and Wiona Wade. He married Bonnia Hicks on Nov. 27, 1949 in Ligonier. She died in 1984. He married again Oct. 19, 1985 in Ligonier to Susie Reasoner. He was employed by Essex Wire in Ligonier where he retired in 1978. He served in the U.S. Army in WW II, was a member of American Legion Post 243; VFW Post 3931 and attended the Ligonier United Methodist Church. Wade Hilda M, 56, of rural Churubusco, was found dead Tuesday at her residence. A lifetime resident of Churubusco, she was born March 26, 1942 to Luey J. and Florence (Ott) Wade. Surviving are a son, William W. of Fort Wayne; a brother and sister-in-law, Everett O. and Deloris Rhodes of Pleasant Lake; 3 sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Donald Larue of Brownsville, Texas, Marilyn and Arthur Helgesen of Churubusco, and Nancy and H. He was a retired employee of Kraft Foods and honorary Woodman of America, Columbia City Lodge. Wade John C, 70, died at his home in Kendallville last Sunday from Bright’s disease. He had been a resident of that city and an employee of McCray Refrigerator plant for the past 20 years. Wade Louis Edward Jr, 56, of Kendallville, died Wednesday in his home. He was Wayne Twp assessor the past 16 years and had served on the Kendallville city council. He was born February 16, 1942 in McDowell County, Berwind, W.Va. to Lewis E. and Betty Wade. On August 28, 1961 he married Patricia Gail Hicks. A 1960 graduate of high school in McDowell County, War, W. Va., he joined the U.S. Navy and was Yeoman Third Class at the time of his honorable discharge in 1964, having served during the Cuban crisis and the Vietnam Conflict. He was a scoutmaster, a member of VFW Post 2749, Moose and Eagles Lodges and American Legion Post 86 and attended Wayne Center United Methodist Church. Surviving are his mother and his wife; 2 sons, Louise "Ed" III, and Timothy O. of Kendallville; 2 grandchildren, Heather and Cameron Wade; his grandmother, Lena Whitten of Canebreak; 6 sisters, Evelyn Krotzer of Kendallville, Bonnie Woody of Brimfield, Brenda Swank of Logan, Ohio, Mary Tritt of Columbus, Ohio, and Barbara Benton and Ginger Snook of Goshen; and a brother, Larry A. of Brimfield. Wade Margaret K, 90, died March 6, 2003 at Elkhart General Hospital. She had worked as a cook in the Ligonier school system, at Wirk Garment in Ligonier and at Chore-Time in Milford, retiring in 1982. She was a member of Stone's Hill Community Church. She was born in Ligonier Aug. 12, 1912 to Lee and Leafa May (Locke) Hewitt. She married Erwin Wade in 1930 in Auburn. He died in 1974. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Faith Wade of Belcamp, Md.; a granddaughter, Kimberly Taylor of Wakarusa; 2 great-grandchildren, Ambria and Maliq Taylor; and a sister, Joan Robbins of Portland. Wade Mary, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Hough, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George White, N. Cavin St., on April 12, 1934, aged 80 years, 5 months and 18 days. She was born in McKeesport, Penn., Oct. 24, 1853, and married Edward Wade Oct. 21, 1875. They had 10 children, Norman Wade, Mrs. George White, Windfield Wade, Wilbur Wade and Mrs. Wyiona Hostetter of Ligonier, Wesley Wade and Alvin Wade of Battle Creek, Mich., Dwight Wade of Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. Frances Clemens of Toledo, Ohio. She also leaves her sister, Mrs. Jacob Beckner and her brother, Andrew Hough; 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. * 1934

Wade Jr. She had resided here 6 years, moving from Berwind, W. Va. She was a member of the United Methodist Church. Surviving are the husband; 2 daughters, Mrs. Raymond Sims, Cromwell, and Mrs. Larry Kilgore, Ligonier; 2 sons, Harry III, and Roy of Ligonier; 3 sisters, Mrs. Helen Riggsby and Mrs. Geraldine Robinson of Va., and Mrs. Ruth Wade, Huntington, W. Wade Mildred Mary, 92, a resident near Ormas, died May 4, 1991 at her home. She was born July 15, 1898 in Grundy County, Ill., a daughter of William and Sarah Ann Kay Harper. She was educated in the Morris, Ill., public schools. On April 21, 1920 she married Frank H. Wade and they established their home on the Wade farm just north of Ormas. They spent all their married life on the same farm. He died May 29, 1990. She was a member of the B.T. Roberts Free Methodist Church. Surviving are a son, F. Harold Jr. of Columbia City; 8 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Also preceding her in death were a daughter, Florence Ruth Starkey and 7 brothers and sisters. Funeral today at B. T. Wade Ollie, 90, died Saturday in Elkhart Hospital after suffering a stroke. Born March 19, 1880 in Ligonier, she was the daughter of James and Mary (Bowser) Crockett. She was married to Norman Wade, who died in 1948, and had lived her entire life in Ligonier. She was a member of Ligonier United Methodist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Helen Fancil, Goshen; 2 sons, Ralph, Elkhart, and Erwin of Syracuse; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral at Ulrey Funeral Home Tuesday. Wade Ralph, 66, died Saturday in St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was a former Ligonier resident, living in Bristol the past 3 years and before that in Elkhart. Funeral was June 24 at Ulrey Funeral Home in Ligonier. Burial, Oak Park Cemetery. Born in Ligonier on Sept. 30, 1908, he was the son of Norman and Ollie (Crockett) Wade. He married Blanche Sheley on March 26, 1932 in Albion. Wade Robert, 58, 208 Pigeon St., Ligonier, died after a 5-months illness Friday in Goshen Hospital. He was born July 24, 1915 in Bristol, Va. to Harry J. and Mary (Johnson) Wade. He married Pearl Baker Aug. 19, 1946 and the couple had lived in Ligonier 8 years. A veteran of WW II, he was employed by Monsanto, Ligonier. Surviving are the wife and parents; 2 sons, Kenneth, Wolf Lake, and Gary, Kimmell; 4 brothers, William and C. H. of Huntington, H. V., Harry Jr., Ligonier, and Lewis, Kendallville; 2 sisters, Mrs. Blanche Webb and Mrs. Evelyn Gross of Bristol. The body has been returned to Bristol, Va. for services there. + 9-?-1973
Wade Susie M, 65, R. 1, Kimmell, died January 12, 1990 at the home of her daughter in Ligonier. She was born in St. Joseph County, Ind., to Cornelius and Laura (Bolenbaugh) Nash. She married Robert Reasoner June 4, 1944 in Pierceton. On October 19, 1985 in Ligonier she married Herbert Wade, who died in 1987. A lifetime area resident, she was a homemaker and former employee of the Dairy Point restaurant in Ligonier, a member of Ligonier United Methodist Church, Albion OES No. 178, Kendallville Eagles Lodge No. 985 Auxiliary and Albion American Legion Post 246 Auxiliary. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Linda) Conner of Ligonier; 2 sons, Roger Reasoner of Fort Wayne and Ralph Reasoner of Ligonier; a half-sister, Fern Brodie of Akron, Ohio; 5 brothers, Gail Nash of Warsaw, Dwight Nash of Hillman, Mich., Neal Nash of South Bend, Keith Nash of Plymouth and Harold R. Wade Zelta Vanita died Monday from a heart attack. Funeral was this afternoon at St. James Episcopal Church at Howe of which she was a member. Burial, Riverside Cemetery. She is survived by her husband; Dr. Alfred A. Wade; 3 sons, Ainsworth of Sturgis, Frank on the Shipshewana faculty this year, and Alfred Allen at home; a daughter, Alice Vivian at Indiana University; a sister, Vivian Beecher of LaGrange and 2 brothers, Charles Beecher of LaGrange and Vere Beecher of Fort Wayne. She was born at LaGrange Dec. 21, 1891, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. A. C. Beecher. She was married to Dr. Wade Aug. 31, 1911. She was a member of DAR and Klinger Lake Country Club. + 9-28-1937
Wadsworth Elihu, an old resident of Allen Twp, died on Sunday last of lung fever. He came to this country in 1836 and settled on the farm (then in the wilderness) on which he had lived continuously ever since. He was 80 years of age last June. His wife preceded him in death by several years. He was the father of 5 children. Two sons, Edwin and William, died a few years ago of consumption, and Mrs. Chloe E. Parker, his daughter, died last Feb. of the same disease. There remains now of the family only Joseph T. of Allen Twp and H. E. of LaPorte, the oldest and youngest sons. Wadsworth Henry, for many years editor of the LaPorte Argus, died at his home in that city Friday while at the dinner table of heart disease at the age of 67. He was a son of the late Elihu Wadsworth who came to Noble County as early as 1836 and settled on a tract of land in Allen Twp, then a forest, a mile and a half south of this city, now owned and occupied by Mr. D. J. Smith and where Mr. Wadsworth was born. He was a brother of the late Joseph T. Wadsworth of Allen Twp and is an uncle to E.E. and J.G. Wadsworth and Mrs. Mae (Parker) Walling of this city. He left this vicinity about 40 years ago and engaged in the hardware business in company with the late Dr. A S. Parker, his brother-in-law. In 1869 he went to LaPorte and took the business management of the LaPorte Argus. He was a staunch Democrat and for several years was a member of the board of control of the Northern Indiana State Prison. He also served one or more terms as postmaster in this city. He leaves a wife, a son, Dudley L. of Michigan City, and 2 daughters, Mrs. B. G. Whitehad of Goshen and Mrs. D. H. McGill of LaPorte. The funeral was Monday. ^ 5-4-1906

Wadsworth Rachael was born in Portage County, Ohio near the town of Kent in August 1827; and died April 12, aged 73 years 8 months and 17 days. She came with her parents to DeKalb County and settled near the present site of Auburn in the very early settlement of that place. She was married there to Lorenzo Lockwood in 1844. They had 2 sons and 2 daughters. Mr. Lockwood died March 29, 1853. She was married to Joseph T. Wadsworth Nov. 19, 1865, who died Sept. 17, 1894. She was the mother of 6 children, all living. In poor health, she was cared for her daughter Mrs. Rose Dosch, who resides on the old homestead about one mile south of this city. Funeral was at the residence Sunday. Wager Lucile S, 86, died Wednesday in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born in Valparaiso, she had lived most of her life in Fort Wayne and was retired from the Social Security Administration in Fort Wayne. Waggoner Charles E, 23, Ligonier, died Friday in an auto accident near Westfield, N.Y. He was a lifelong resident of Noble County, born February 18, 1968 in Elkhart County, the son of Frederick J. and Sarah S. (Crothers) Waggoner. In December 1988 in Fitchburg, Mass., he married Davita Navaro. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve and an employee of Middlebury Hardwood. Surviving are his wife; his father, Frederick J. of Goshen, his mother Sarah of Ligonier; one son, John of Ligonier; one brother, James of Buchanan, Mich.; and 3 sisters, Christine Coffing, Annette Short and Ellen Waggoner, all of Ligonier. Wagner Augustus H, died at Kansas City, Mo. on March 15. He was a stepson of John Q. Whitford of this city, having been with Mr. Whitford very much of the time after he was 10 years old. He left here in April 1887 and had been engaged as a telegraph operator in the vicinity of Kansas City since that time. In December last he married Fannie Baily. His father died while he was very young, his mother died nearly 7 years ago and his only sister died in July 1886. His mother and sister died of consumption and his disease was much the same. Surviving are his wife; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Carl and Nancy Wagner and Terry and Amanda Wagner; and 3 sisters, Nina Rasler, Evelyn Acker and Anna Bailey, all of Kendallville; 3 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Wagoner George D Jr., 82, died Feb. 25, 2004 in Melbourne, Fla. He was a museum curator, business manager and antique dealer and served in the U.S. Army during WW II. He was a member of St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church in Melbourne. He was born Aug. 3, 1921 in Bowling Green, Ohio to George and Maree Wagoner. His ancestors were pioneers in Indiana and Ohio, moving from Stark County, Ohio to DeKalb County in 1848. He graduated from Kendallville High School in 1939 and attended Indiana, Harvard and New York universities. He was preceded in death by a brother, John, and a sister, Mary McFadden Dean. Wagoner Maree O, 92, of San Antonio, Texas, and formerly of Kendallville, died Saturday in Broadway Lodge, San Antonio. She was born in Dunbridge, Ohio, May 9, 1895. On Jan. 18, 1915 in Detroit, Mich., she married George D. Wagoner, who died Jan. 28, 1950. She moved from Kendallville to San Antonio 12 years ago. She had moved to Kendallville with the Auman Dept. Store in 1927 and in 1933 opened her own dress shop, Wagoner’s Apparel. The shop remained open until her retirement in 1970. Surviving are a daughter, Mary Dean of San Antonio; a son, George of Long Island, N.Y.; 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. One son, John, preceded her in death in 1956. Waits Reuben and Rhoda died within 5 days of each other. He was born in Washington County, Penn. Sept. 19, 1811 and died July 13, 1898, aged 86 years and 10 months. He came to Wayne County, Ohio when 21 years of age, where on April 11, 1839 he married Rhoda Smith, and they had 5 sons and 5 daughters. He united with the Presbyterian Church at Apple Creek, O. when 26. She was born Jan. 25, 1822 in Wayne County, Ohio and died July 18, aged 76 years 5 months and 23 days. Of the 10 children, 2 sons and one daughter died in infancy. They leave 3 sons, 4 daughter, 3 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She leaves 2 brothers and one sister. Walburn Amanda was born in Columbiana County, Ohio, Aug. 13, 1848, and died in her home in Green Twp, where she had lived for over 50 years, on Feb. 27, 1936, being 87 years, 6 months and 14 days old. Her parents were Jacob and Katherine Kutcher. There were 5 children in the family and only one brother, Henry of Jefferson Twp, survives her. The family came to Indiana in an early day and her whole life has been spent in Jefferson and Green Twps. As a young woman she married Isaac Workman. They had three children; one daughter died as an infant; another daughter, Ella, who was Mrs. Isaac Rosenogle, died 5 years ago; and one son, Norman Workman, survives. The father also is deceased. In 1882 she married David E. Walburn and to them 3 children were born, Mrs. D. G. Shaffer, Mrs. Charles Weeks, and William Walburn. There are 24 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Walburn died at Christmas time in 1921. Funeral at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Saturday. Walder Andrew, formerly of Ligonier, but of late years at Archbold, O., was buried Monday at Ligonier. Some 3 weeks ago he met with an accident by stepping into an open trap door. At the time the physician thought it was only a broken arm but later it developed that he had been suffering with internal injuries. Last Friday he died and the remains were taken to Ligonier for burial in the Catholic Cemetery. Two grown children survive. ^ 1-24-1911
Waldhart Peter, who lived in the southeast part of the city, left his home last Saturday saying to his family that he was going to Bryan to work on railroad bridges. Advices now indicate that he went to Toledo and took a dose of poison, dying from the effects on Sunday. No cause is assigned, though dissipation is the probable reason. He leaves a wife, who is a sister to William Hutt of this city, and 3 children. He was about 45 years of age and by occupation a railroad laborer. ^ 5-24-1889

He married Charlotte Coffelt on October 21, 1967 in Ligonier. He graduated from Cromwell High School in 1960 and served in the U.S. Army from 1960-64. He retired from Flex Steel in New Paris in 2008 after nearly 20 years of service. Waldron Mary S (Whitcomb) was born July 5, 1840, and died Feb. 7, aged 58 years 7 months and 2 days. Her former home was in Valparaiso where she left 2 brothers, and also one sister living in Iowa. Being thrown upon her own resources by the death of both parents she began to work in the woolen mills at that place and later when the factory was moved to Iowa, she with other girls, went with it. Not liking it there, she came to Rome City to work in the woolen mills. While here she married Uriah Waldron Dec. 14, 1873, and they immediately moved to Brimfield where they have since made their home. They had 3 sons, who survive her. Waldron Rheuadah, 87, R. 3, Kendallville, died today in McCray Hospital. She was born May 16, 1900 in Noble County to Charles and Ellie (Knepp) Miller. On Jan. 31, 1917 in Wolcottville, she married Forrest Waldron, who died April 8, 1970. She was a member of Rome City United Methodist church. Surviving is a son, Robert of R. 3, Kendallville. Waldron Robert, 73, of R. 3, Kendallville, died Thursday in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was born in Noble County September 2, 1917, the son of Forrest R. and Rheuadah (Miller) Waldron. Waldron Sabina, wife of Lewis Waldron, was born in Ontario County, N.Y. Jan. 30, 1807; died Dec. 5, aged 86 years 10 months 5 days. She leaves 7 children. She has lived to see her fourth generation, 36 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren. She joined the Baptist Church in 1858 at Brimfield. She was married in 1832. Waldron Sarah was born Sept. 6, 1838 near Georgetown, Columbiana County, Ohio, and died May 6, 1916. She came to Indiana with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Niswander in Sept. 1849 where she lived with them on a farm adjoining Brimfield. Practically all her life was spent in and near Brimfield. She married William H. Waldron in Feb. 1855. They had 7 children, 4 of whom are living, J. E. of Baldwin, Kansas, A. D. of Denver, Colo., G. F. of Montpelier, Ohio, and Mrs. E. W. Davis of Malden, Mo. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. John Huff of Brimfield. A brief service was held Monday at the home of her grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Eubank of Montpelier, Ohio, where she had spent the winter. Funeral at the U. B. Church Monday. Waldron Sarah (Johnston) was born Feb. 7, 1835 in Ontario County, New York; died July 5, 1899, aged 64 years, 5 months and 4 days. She, with her parents, came to Indiana and settled in Noble County in 1850. She married Johial Waldron July 23, 1852. To this union were born 3 boys and 2 girls. Two children and her husband preceded her in death, her husband on Sept. 17, 1876. She was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church located at Union schoolhouse. Waldron William was born in Bockland County, New York, June 18, 1816 and died at his home near Cosperville January 5, 1908, aged 91 years, 6 months and 17 days. He came with his father's family to Delaware County, Ohio and in 1836 to Noble County, Indiana. On August 15, 1845 he married Leah Wendell. To this union were born 5 daughters and 3 sons, three dying in infancy, and one, Mrs. John Johnson, in middle life. He was one of a family of 8 children, all of whom preceded him in death. He was a member of the Free Baptist Church. His ancestry came from Holland in Colonial days and settled at Harlem, New York, and were prominent in the early history of the colony and state. Here his father, Jacob Waldron, was born and in early manhood served 5 years in the regular army, mostly at Stony Point, 40 miles north of the city made famous for its capture by Mad Anthony Wayne. Walker Clyde E, 70, died Dec. 13 at McCray Hospital. He resided in Kendallville and was born April 15, 1898 at Jackson, Mich., the son of James and Maud Lockwood Walker. He was married May 29, 1930 to Dolores Scott and they have resided near and in Kendallville for 31 years. He served as director of the Campbell & Fetter Bank, has served on the board of directors of Jackson Standard Corp., of Indianapolis; a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge, a member of American Legion Post 86, a WW I veteran, and at one time was secretary of the Noble County Fair Association. He began work with the Trenton Garment Co., Kendallville, in 1932, later serving as secretary-treasurer, and in 1940 became president of the company, retiring from that position in 1957. Survivors include the widow; one daughter, Mrs. Abraham (Marilyn) Charnov, Adrian, Mich.; one son, Larry C., Jackson, Mich.; one brother, Donald, Jackson, Mich.; and two sisters, Mrs. Luke (Mabel) Embury and Mrs. George (Margaret) Cooley, both Jackson, Mich. Walker Clyde W, 82, of Crooked Lake in Noble Twp, Noble County, died Monday in Whitley County Hospital. He was born January 20, 1916 in Whitley County to Hayes and Ruth (Snyder) Walker. On September 26, 1937 he married Laura Bell Londt. He moved to a farm north of Big Lake when he was 2 and completed his education in Wolf Lake High School. From 1956 to 1972 he and his wife operated Walker's Restaurant in Wolf Lake and he also farmed. Walker Cornelius, 86, died last Thursday at Lakeside Hospital as the result of a fractured hip which he received from a fall New Year’s Eve. He was born Feb. 16, 1853 to Israel and Hannah Walker, who at the time of his birth resided in Elkhart Twp. A few years later they moved to Albion where he resided until his death, March 23, 1939. He married Alta Seymoure in 1914. They had 2 daughters, Mildred and Modelle. The mother died in 1925. Funeral was March 26 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Albion. She worked at the Sears store in Kendallville, helped open and and manage the Baskins-Robbins ice cream store in Kendaville and retired from Parkview Noble Hospital. Walker George, son of Israel and Hannah Walker, was born near Albion Dec. 1, 1850, and died at his home north of Ligonier, Nov. 29, 1928, age 77 years, 11 months and 8 days. His entire life was spent in Noble County. His young childhood and manhood was spent near Albion until he located 40 years ago on the farm which was his home at the time of his death. He married Sarah Ann Lepird March 13, 1879. They had 2 children, Vada May and Edna. His wife died just 26 days previous to his death. Vada May died in infancy; father, mother; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Marshall and Mrs. Alice Rule, preceded him in death. Walker Harp, about 76, of R. 4, Albion, died Jan. 30, 1973 at the Whitley County Hospital. He was born Dec. 17, 1896 in Columbia Twp in Whitley County, a son of James Lewis and Anna (Helsper) Walker. His marriage to Ruth L. Snyder was on Dec. 1, 1915 at the home of Lewis A. Luckenbill in Columbia City. Following their marriage they lived for 2 years in Whitley County and in 1917 moved to Noble County where they have since resided. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Big Lake Church of God for more than 50 years. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; 2 sons, Clyde W. of Wolf Lake, and Carl V. of Fort Wayne; 2 daughters, Mrs. Max (Lurabelle) Gray of R. 4, Albion, and Mrs. Howard (Dorothy) Londt of R. 2, Albion; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Walker Helen E, 89, of Merriam, died Tuesday in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. She was born in Palacious, Texas, January 13, 1910 to Victor and Alta (Baird) Weber. On June 15, 1929 she married Wilmer H. Walker. He died January 31, 1982. Because of her husband's profession as a national park ranger, the couple lived in various parts of the country. They moved to Merriam following his retirement in 1972. She was a member of Merriam Christian Chapel. Walker Henry died at his home near Wawaka Sept. 4, 1901. His native state was Maryland, where he was born in Baltimore County May 2, 1818. He was aged 83 years 4 months and 2 days. In 1819 he moved with his parents to Morrow County, Ohio, where he grew to manhood. On Dec. 23, 1841 he was married to Catharine Davis. They had 5 children. In 1842 the family moved to Noble County and settled on the farm where he had ever since resided - nearly 59 years. His companion died in 1895. Two of his children also preceded him in death. One was the late G. W. Walker, who was noted as the largest man in the country, his weight being over 500 pounds. Three children are still living, viz., Nehemiah of Stuttgart, Ark., William of Wawaka, and Cecilia Pelton of Traverse City, Mich. He also leaves 2 brothers and 3 sisters, John of Albion, Ephraim of Mt. Gilead, O., Mary M. Acton and Sarah Bloomfield of Kendallville, and Lovina Hoffman of Brimfield. Walker Israel, an old settler of Elkhart Twp, died last Thursday and was buried in Wright Cemetery near his late home. Walker John was born in Richland County, Ohio Dec. 21, 1821 and at the time of death was aged 82 years, 9 months and 25 days. In the county and state of nativity he was reared to manhood and became proficient as a farmer and blacksmith. In May 1849 he came to Noble County and located in York Twp where he cleared up a farm on which he erected a comfortable dwelling and made many other improvements. On this place he resided until early in the eighties, when he removed to Albion Twp where he lived in comfort, retiring from active labor and where he resided until his death. He was married in Morrow County March 25, 1845 to Miriam Cook, also a native of Richland County, Ohio. They had no children. The obsequies were held at the residence Tuesday. Burial, Sweet Cemetery. Greenaway. He was an aviation technician from 1965 to 1969 in the Air Force during the Viet Nam Conflict and was a corrections counselor at Chain O’ Lakes Youth Camp. His father died in 1968. Walker Sarah Ann, daughter of Samuel and Harriet Reynolds Lepird, was born near Topeka, Ind. Oct. 4, 1848, and died at her home north of Ligonier, Nov. 3, 1928, age 80 years and 29 days. Her childhood was spent in LaGrange County until after the death of her mother when she and her brother, Frank, moved to a farm near Albion. She resided there with her brother for 2 years. She married George Walker March 13, 1879, and they resided on the same farm for 8 years when they moved to her present home which is near her childhood home. They had 2 children, Vada May and Edna. Vada May, father, mother and two brothers, Robert and John, preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband; daughter Edna, wife of Theodore Spurgeon; 3 sisters, Mary Jane Damey, Ellen Ramsby, Electa Hostetter of Ligonier; and one brother, Frank of Goshen. Wallace Greta M, 77, of Cromwell, died Nov. 18, 2011 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. She was born Dec. 31, 1933, to Donald and Mary B. (Elder) Robbins in Warsaw. On Jan. 22, 1955, she married Jim P. Wallace in Elkhart. She owned and operated the Cromwell Advance with her husband until their merger with the Ligonier Leader in the 1970s. She then continued to work as the office manager of the Advance Leader for many years. She never retired and presently operated Cromwell Advance Printing with her husband, supplying job work for the community. She served on the Cromwell Town Board for many years and also served as president. She currently was a member of the Ligonier Evangelical Church. She is survived by her husband; a son, Rock D. Wallace of Avilla; 2 daughters, Ren (Kerry) Sprunger of Topeka and Ranell (Dave) Enders of Princeton, Iowa; 6 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Robin Wallace Patterson in 1979. Wallace Harriet Elizabeth was born in Ashland County, Ohio September 28, 1828, the daughter of John B. and Julia (Rowland) Gray. Her education was obtained in the academy at Ashland and later at Cleveland. In 1850 she came to Auburn, Ind. and was one of the pioneer school teachers of that town. February 22, 1852 she married Eleazar O. Wallace and for several years they resided at Auburn and in other portions of DeKalb County. In 1856 they moved to Kendallville and resided here till Jan. 1894 when Mr. Wallace died, and Mrs. Wallace went to Fort Wayne to live with her daughter. Since 1902 she has lived in Chicago. She died March 17, 1910, aged 81 years 5 months and 17 days. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church at Kendallville where funeral will be held. Burial, Lake View Cemetery. ^ 3-21-1910

Wallace John A Jr, 19, R. 3, Ligonier, was killed and 7 other passengers were injured Sunday on U. S. 6 near Waterloo in DeKalb County when his camper-truck failed to negotiate a curve and slammed into a tree after skidding 60 feet. The blacktop was wet at the time of the accident. Wallace Russell, 69, 716 Water St., died today in LaGrange County Hospital. Born Nov. 18, 1902 in Wells County, he was the son of Thomas and Ethel (Weinland) Wallace. He married Altha Harn Feb. 22, 1928 in Penn. A 36-year resident of the Ligonier area, he was a retired farmer and Ligonier security policeman. He was a member of the Ligonier Masons, Scottish Rite, and Eastern Star. Wallace Shirley J, 77, died July 3, 2007 at her Kendallville home. A registered nurse from 1950 until retirement in 1996, she was employed with McCray Hospital, Lutheran Homes and Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. She graduated from Wapakoneta High School in 1947 and nursing school in 1950 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. She received a bachelor's degree in religious education from Baptist Bible College in Johnson City, N.Y., in 1955. She was a member of First Christian Church in Kendallville. She was born in St. John's, Ohio on Aug. 20, 1929 to Claude C. and Ilo (Gary) Bailey. She married Keith J. Wallace on Nov. 19, 1955 in Dayton, Ohio. He died Oct. 8, 1999. Surviving are 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Cynthia and Greg Bristol of Mansfield, Texas, and Sheryl Wallace of Pierceton; a brother, Robert Bailey of Grand Rapids, Ohio; a sister, Iris Bailey of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and 4 grandsons, Troy, Stephen, Jared and Craig Bristol. Waller Christina, 83, mother of Mrs. Robert Mueller, died in the Mueller home Sunday. She was born August 22, 1882, in Paulding County, Ohio, the daughter of Vendel and Anna Svoboda. On February 18, 1903, she married Ira C. Waller, who died in November 1960. She had lived in Kendallville since 1919, moving there from Bryan, Ohio. Surviving in addition to Mrs. Mueller are another daughter, Mrs. C. F. Treesh, South Bend; two sons, Robert E., South Bend, and Leo, Kendallville; eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. A veteran of WW II, he served with the U. S. Navy Submarine Service. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, VFW Post 2749, Kendallville and American Legion Post 86, Kendallville. Walling David C, head of the Flint & Walling Co., manufacturer of windmills and pumps, died at his residence in this city this morning at an advanced age. He came to Kendallville nearly 50 years ago as pattern maker, and by industry and perseverance succeeded in building up what is today the largest manufacturing establishment of Kendallville. He personally invented the Star windmill and the Hoosier pump, the 2 chief products of the plant. He married Frances Peters of Newark, Ohio in 1865. Surviving are the widow; and children, Mrs. Luella Bard of Fort Wayne, George E. Walling and Mrs. Grace E. Martin of this city, and Walter Walling of Alvin, Texas. Funeral will be from the residence Sunday. He was born in Erie County, N.Y. in 1835. The family moved to Kendallville in 1866. Walling May, wife of George Walling, a lifelong resident of Noble County, died this morning at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne. She was born Nov. 14, 1868 at Ligonier, a daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. A. S. Parker. She was a baby when her parents moved to this city from Ligonier. Her father had been the first publisher of the Kendallville News, a weekly newspaper. In 1901 she married George E. Walling, who survives. Wallinger Katherine "Kate", 91, of R. 1, LaOtto, died Tuesday at Miller's Merry Manor in Garrett. She was born July 19, 1899 in Martin, N.D., the daughter of George and Carolyn (Bauer) Eckart. On January 16, 1920 she married Dominic Wallinger, who preceded her in death. She moved to LaOtto in September 1989. She had been a cook for Martin Schools in Martin and was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Eagles Auxiliary, both of Harvey. He received a bachelor's degree in engineering from Purdue University in 1954 and was a commissioned officer in the military for 2 years. On March 12, 1955 he married Sandra Leitch. Surviving are his wife; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Matthew and Suzete of Kingwood, Tex., and John and Elinore of Bryan, Tex.; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Shauna and John Hulecki of Little Rock, Ark., and Erin and Bill Grant of Zachary, La.; 2 sisters, Rose Marie Walsh of Kendallville and Theodosia Engle of Gahanna, Ohio; and 9 grandchildren. ^ 2-24-2004
Walsh Herman C, 89, of 669 Dowling St., Kendallville, died Monday in Kendallville Nursing Home. He was born in Angola April 15, 1899, the son of Vern and Clara Walsh. In 1929 he married Edna Keller, who died in 1964. In 1966 he married Gladys Lee Bordner, who is his only survivor. One brother and one sister preceded him in death. He retired from Magnavox, Fort Wayne after 25 years. He attended Faith United Methodist Church. Services Thursday in Hite Funeral Home, Kendallville. Burial, Butler Home Town Cemetery. + 7-18-1988

Walsh Robert C, 62, died Thursday at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was born May 9, 1934 in Youngstown, Ohio to Frank and Erma (Kruger) Walsh. On December 24, 1960 in Cleveland, Ohio, he married Annette Watson. He was retired from Newnam Foundry in Kendallville and was a member of Gospel Lighthouse Church. Surviving are 2 daughters, Mary Hankey and Elsie Kerkes and 4 sons, Robert C. Jr., Anthony and Duane Walsh of Kendallville and Roger Walsh of Auburn; 3 sisters, Mary Kovch, Margaret Walsh and Eline Hochadel of Warren, Ohio; 2 brothers, John and Thomas of Warren; and 12 grandchildren. Services Sunday at Gospel Lighthouse Church. Burial, Brushy Prairie Cemetery. + 12-19-1996
