whom as well as his widow, are still living. Among them are D. W. C. and G. A. of Ligonier, and Dr. Norman Teal of
Kendallville. For more than 50 years he was a member of the Dunkard Church, and while living in the daily
practice of all the virtues that adorn that organization, he still felt that he
was a citizen of the U. S. and as such it was his religious duty to assist in
the election of men to office who were honest and capable.
In the month of Jan. 1847 his house was burned together with nearly all
his household goods, and after the fire had made such progress that further
efforts were useless, he sat down and by the light of his burning house drafted
a plan for a new one. Although it was midwinter, in 3 weeks he was with his family in his new home.
