1-27-1898 The News is in receipt of the following letter bearing upon the
genealogy of one of the well-known families of this section: Bloomdale, O., Jan.
31. Editor News: Some unknown friend sent me your paper of the 27th containing notice of death of Mrs. Louisa Simon, widow of Peter Simon, who was
my second cousin. His father, George and my father, Jacob, were full cousins,
and their fathers, Michael and Andrew, were brothers - sons of Johan Adam; and
said Michael, born in the colony of Maryland in 1754 was the first child of the
Simon family born in America, nearly 157 years ago. My grandfather died at the
age of nearly 99 years and my great-grandfather at the age of 98. The above is
not news to you but it will surely give tidings to some of your readers as to
some of the facts of the Simon family in America, for the generation of Michael
Simon alone at his death numbered 485 - of whom 64 had died previously. This
large number has not received full credence from strangers, but it is correct,
and I was one of the committee of four to trace the relatives and report. Levi
