Shear Fancis W "Sock", 89, of Syracuse, died June 28, 2010 at Miller's Merry Manor in Syracuse. Graveside services Friday at Salem Cemetery in Wilmot.
Shearer A Ruth, 87, died Tuesday in Oak Leaf Village, Ligonier. She was born April 29, 1911 in Noble County to Mark and Grace (Caldwell) Kinnison. On November 16, 1943 in Albion she married Donald Shearer. He died in 1977. She had been a supervisor at Wirk Garment Co. in Ligonier, and after it closed she was a self-employed embroiderer. Surviving are 3 stepchildren; a brother, Maurice Kinnison of Wawaka; a sister, Frances Simmons of Ligonier. Funeral Friday in Ulrey-Renner Funeral Home. Burial, Sparta Cemetery. + 12-15-1998
Shearer Amelia, 85, a pioneer of the Ligonier community died April 14 at the home of her nephew, Don Shearer, in Albion. Surviving are 3 brothers, Frank of Cromwell, Lewis and Charles of Ligonier. Funeral was held Friday at the Garland home in Ligonier. Burial, Sparta Cemetery. + 4-?-1937
Shearer Barbara J, 48, Ligonier, died Aug. 28 in Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne from cancer. Born Oct. 25, 1931 in Ligonier, she was the daughter of Guy and Lillian (Hartzler) Barnes. On June 20, 1952 in Ligonier she married Charles William "Bill" Shearer. She was a lifetime Ligonier resident and an employee of Essex Wire. She was a member of Ligonier United Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Mark (Debra Lynne) Beckner of Ligonier; a sister, Mrs. Kathleen Ebey of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a brother, Robert of Fallbrook, Calif.; and 2 grandchildren. Shearer Charles, 70, died Saturday of coronary occlusion at his farm home south of Ligonier on U. S. Highway No. 33 while working in his garden. Surviving are the widow, Sarah; 2 sons, Donald and Edward, both south of Ligonier; 2 brothers, Frank of Cromwell and Lewis of Ligonier; and 5 grandchildren. Funeral at the residence Tuesday. Shearer Charles "Bill", 74, died Dec. 19, 2003 at Avalon Village. He was a heavy equipment operator and truck driver for Rieth-Riley construction Co. and a member of Teamsters Union. He was born June 20, 1929 in Noble County to Donald and Hazel (Waldron) Shearer. He married Barbara Barnes June 20, 1953 in Ligonier. She died in 1980. On Dec. 30, 1983 he married Eva A. Bontrager in Ligonier. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He attended Ligonier United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Mark Beckner of Ligonier; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Helen Shearer of Ligonier; a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Doug Collier of Fort Wayne; and grandchildren, Derek and Brooke Beckner. Shearer David Kent "Dave", 20, died in a freak mishap Tuesday in his home, 105 S. Martin St. an apparent victim of suffocation after apparently suffering an epileptic seizure, falling from bed and jamming his head into a small wastebasket beside his bed. He was born Sept. 26, 1958 in Goshen, the son of Charles and Barbara (Barnes) Shearer and was a 1977 graduate of West Noble High School where he was a member of the starting five on the varsity basketball team. He had been ill for some time. Surviving are the parents; a sister, Mrs. Debra Beckner, Ligonier; and a step-grandmother, Mrs. Donald Shearer, R. 2, Ligonier. Services Friday in Ulrey Funeral Home. Shearer Donald H, 73, R. 2, Ligonier, died today in Goshen Hospital. Born in Sparta Twp, Dec. 4, 1903, he was the son of Charles and Sarah (Magnuson) Shearer. He married Ruth Kinnison Nov. 16, 1943 in Albion. He was a retired farmer, a member of Ligonier Presbyterian Church, Masonic Lodge No. 185, Cromwell Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Fort Wayne, and was a director of Noble County REMC. Survivors include the wife; a daughter, Mrs. Douglas (Jean) Collier, Fort Wayne; 2 sons, William and Richard of Ligonier; one brother, Edward, rural Goshen; 7 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Shearer Douglas Don, 70, died June 7, 2003 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. He had operated the DX station in Ligonier and later the Sunoco station and worked at Starcraft Automotive in Goshen and retired from Freudenberg NOK in Ligonier. He was a member of the Ligonier Volunteer Fire Department for 19 years, a member of Elks Lodge 451, Lions Club and Historical Society. He was born in Ligonier Oct. 1, 1932 to Edward Charles and Eva Virginia (Kiester) Shearer. He married Kay Rose Taylor Feb. 17, 1951 in Ligonier. Surviving are his wife; 4 sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Cheri, Mark and Kimberly and Mitchell and Linda of Ligonier and Martin and Katy of Goshen; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Brenda Wilson of Ligonier, and Becky and Oscar Jackson of Cromwell; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Jean Shearer of Auburn; 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Shearer Edward C, 80, of CR 33, Goshen, died Wednesday in Goshen Hospital. He was born March 6, 1909 in Ligonier, the son of Charles and Sarah (Magnuson) Shearer. In Ligonier in Oct. 1931 he married Eva Kiester, who died July 7, 1974. On April 2, 1977 in Carmel he married Lois Beck Martin. A lifetime area resident, he was a retired cabinetmaker for Liberty Coach Co., and a member of Ligonier Presbyterian Church. Surviving are his wife; 2 sons, Douglas of Ligonier and Robert of Auburn; a stepdaughter, Renee Rich of Carmel; 3 stepsons, George Martin of Fort Wayne, John Martin of Tipton, and Kim Martin of Cromwell; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Shearer Edward Charles II, 7, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Shearer, was fatally injured Nov. 8, 1951 as he was riding a coaster wagon on State Road 33 two miles north of Kimmell. He was killed when a pickup truck crushed the coaster wagon. With Edward Charles at the time was his brother, Robert 16, who was seriously injured as he was pushing the coaster wagon along the edge of the pavement. Shearer Frank, 87, resident of Cromwell for many years, ended his life by hanging himself in his home Sunday shortly after members of his family had left on a picnic. Shearer Helen R, 79, died Jan. 10, 2004 in Avalon Village at Ligonier. She had worked at the former Wirk Garment in Ligonier and as a teacher's aide and in the cafeteria for West Noble School Corp. She was a member of Ligonier Presbyterian Church and OES. She was born Oct. 30, 1924 in Noble County to Alva and Dorothy (Chestnut) Vance. She married Richard Shearer on Aug. 17, 1951 at Lake Wawasee. Surviving are her husband; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Charlotte of Lebanon, Ind.; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Terry Tonkel of South Bend and Cheryl and Brad Smith of Syracuse; a sister, Betty Biddle of Ligonier; and 7 grandchildren. Shearer Kay R, 76, of Ligonier, died March 19, 2013, at Parkview Noble Hospital. She was born on April 1, 1936, in Wolf Lake to Bruce and Ruth (Knox) Taylor. She married Douglas Shearer on February 17, 1951, in Ligonier. He died June 7, 2003. She is survived by 4 sons and a daughter, Michael E. (Cheri) Shearer, Mark D. (Kimberly) Shearer, Martin J. (Kathy) Shearer, Mitchell E. (Linda) Shearer and Becky R. (Oscar) Jackson; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 3 brothers and a sister, Tom (Diane) Taylor, Kent (Jackie) Taylor, Tim (Kim) Taylor and Nancy Donat. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda K. Wilson. She belonged to the Eagles Auxiliary, the Ligonier Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Ligonier Historical Society. Shearer Richard, 78, of rural Ligonier, died March 7, 2006 at Lakeland Nursing Home in Milford. He had been employed by West Noble School Corp. as a bus driver and maintenance man, and was also a farmer. He was a member of Ligonier Presbyterian Church, Cromwell Masonic Lodge 705 and OES 325. He was born on July 31, 1927 in Sparta Twp to Donald Howard and Hazel B (Waldron) Shearer. He married Helen Vance on Aug. 17, 1951 in Syracuse. She died in 2004. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Charlotte of Lebanon; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Brad Smith of Syracuse and Robin and Terry Tonkel of South Bend; a sister, Jean Collier of Fort Wayne; and 7 grandchildren. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 166, and American Legion Post 97. He married Jeannie DeWitt on Aug 3, 1963 in Avilla. Surviving are his wife; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Jason and Suzanne Sharer of Garrett, Jeff and Angela Shearer of Auburn and Rick and Carrie Shearer of LaGrange; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Laura and Brian Keith of Chapin, S.C, and Lisa Shearer of Auburn; and 15 grandchildren. Sheckles Willard V, 79, R. 1, LaOtto, died Saturday in McCray Hospital. He was born March 25, 1905 in Clinton County, Ky., the son of James and Minnie (Smith) Sheckles. He was employed for 20 years at International Harvester’s Richmond plant and was a farmer in the Richmond area. He was a member of Moose Lodge No. 167, Richmond, and New Bethel Church in Albany, Ky. Surviving are his wife, Jennie of California; two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Mary) Huntsinger, Lancaster, Tex., and Mrs. Walter (Linda) Conley of California; two sisters, Ethel Holbrook of LaOtto, and Mrs. Luther (Flossie) Vincent of Bowe, Ky.; two brothers, Jack of Richmond, and Jim of Carmichael, Ill.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Shectala Martha L, daughter of Stephen and Martha Harris of Orange Twp, Noble County, died in Kenton, Oh., Sept. 19 at the age of 43 years, 4 months and 25 days. She had a complication of diseases which terminated in consumption, which caused her death. She leaves a husband, 3 daughters, one sister, and 3 brothers. Funeral at her home on W. Sheeks Francis E, 98, of Defiance, Ohio, died Monday in Parkview Nursing Home, Edgerton, Ohio. He was born in Putnam County, Ohio, July 28, 1890, the son of Jourse and Flinny (Ladd) Sheeks. He married Della Whiston in 1963 and she died in 1963. In 1964 he married Irene Beall. He was a retired farmer. Surviving are his wife; 3 daughters, Mrs. Rolland Hippenhammer of R. 3, Wolcottville, Lillie Roehl of Holgate, Ohio, and Mildred Roehl of Hamler, Ohio; a half-sister, Donna Rau of Toledo, Ohio; 3 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren. A son, Marion; a stepdaughter, Florence Klein; a grandson; 2 brothers; a half-brother; 2 sisters and a half-sister preceded him in death. Sheeks Mary E, 78, of Avilla, died Oct. 25, 2002 in Provena Sacred Heart Home. She had been an office manager at St. Anne Home and at Byron Health Center, Fort Wayne. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 86. She graduated in 1941 from Kendallville High School. She was born in Oak Park, Ill. on Jan. 2, 1924 to William and Mildred (Shaw) Schneider. She is survived by a son, Wallace and Anita Owens of Fort Wayne; 2 daughters, Barbara Hose of Rome City and Mary and John Todd of South Milford; one brother, William Schneider of Alabama; 9 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Sheets Allison, 83, died Tuesday at the Lawton Nursing Home in Fort Wayne. He lived at 521 Irene St. and was a former employee of the Bowser Co. He went to Fort Wayne 27 years ago and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Surviving are his widow Harriett; two daughters, Mrs. Katherine Gibson, N.J., and Mrs. Carl Bendrick, Fort Wayne; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Sheets Benjamin, pioneer of Noble County, died at his home 3 and a half miles west of Avilla this morning. Born in Columbiana County, Ohio, August 11, 1828, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Sheets, he was 86 years, 8 months and 2 days old at the time of his death. He married Catherine Renkenberger Nov. 6, 1851. She died March 14, 1907. In 1851 they came in a covered wagon from Ohio, settling on the farm west of Avilla where he lived until his death. Of the 10 children, 7 survive. They are Mrs. Moses Yarian, Mrs. W. F. Moree, Miss Laura, Mrs. J. R. Lockhart, John, William and Allison Sheets, all of whom live near the Sheets homestead. A brother, John, of near Convoy, Ohio, who is 92 years old, survives, with 21 grandchildren. He had belonged to the Evangelical Lutheran Church since 1868. Funeral will be Sunday at Hopewell. Six grandsons will act as pallbearers. * 5-13-1915
Sheets Betty A, 61, of R. 8, Columbia City, died Sunday in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. She was born Aug. 14, 1927 in Thorncreek Twp, Whitley County, the daughter of Dewey and Mildred (Bair) Herron. On June 22, 1947 she married Eldo E. "Bud" Sheets. She had lived in Tri Lakes most of her life and graduated from Columbia City High School. She was employed by Whitley Products and Precision Plastics, a member of St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church, and a former member of Etna Rebekah Lodge and Thorncreek Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxiliary. Surviving are her husband; her mother in Columbia City; a daughter, Mrs. David (Gloria) Didion of Garrett; 5 sons, Buddy, Dewey, John and Harold of Columbia City and Jerry of R. 4, Albion; 2 sisters, Mrs. Raymond (Barbara) Sanderson of Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Ronald (Adabell) Hile of Columbia City; a brother, Tim W. of Columbia City; and 16 grandchildren. On April 23, 1961 in W.Va., she married Darrell W. Sheets. She was employed by Silgan Plastics Corp. in Ligonier. Surviving are her parents in W.Va.; her husband; 2 daughters, Mary Jane Smith and Tammy R. Schneider of Kendallville; 3 sons, Darrell Jr. of Romance, Ark., and Larry A. and Jerry D. at home; 6 sisters, Brenda Swank and Mary Jane Tritt of Columbus, Ohio, Barbara Benton and Ginger Handshoe of Goshen, Bonnie S. Sheets Catherine was born in Beaver Twp, Columbiana County, Ohio on January 7, 1829; and died on March 14, 1907, aged 78 years, 2 months and 7 days. She married Benjamin Sheets on November 6, 1851. In 1852 they moved overland from Ohio in a wagon, a distance of over 300 miles. They settled on a farm 3 ½ miles southwest of Avilla. Here they have spent over 55 years of their lives together. They had 10 children, 7 of whom are living, 4 daughters and 3 sons, who lived near enough to the old home to be present and care for their mother during her last days. She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church since 1868. Funeral at the residence Sunday. Burial, King Cemetery. * 1907

He was married to Betty Sheets, who died June 9, 1992. He worked for McCray Refrigeration for several years. Surviving are 3 sons, Darrel Jr. of Kendallville, Larry of Charleston, WV, and Jerry and Crystal of Kendallville; 3 daughters, Mary and William Miller of Kendallville, Tammy and Fred Schneider of Kendallville, and Lora Thompson Dingus Cole of Osceola; 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; a brother, Wiley Sheets of Bluefield, WV. He was supervisor of research and development at Shell Chemical Company in Houston and was a retired U. S. Air Force Colonel. Survivors include his widow, Margaret; two sons, Richard, Atlanta, Ga., and Robert, San Francisco, Cal.; his father Harry, Auburn; two brothers, Donald, Indianapolis, and Warren, Pottstown, Pa.; a sister, Rosemary Gerig, Auburn. She attended Huckleberry School and Pierceton High School. She married Carl E. Sheets on May 23, 1950. She was a former nurses' aide at Columbia City Nursing Home, Whitley County Hospital and The Oaks; and was a former waitress at the Junction Restaurant, Penguin Point and Crossroads Inn. She was a member of Eagles Lodge 1906 Auxiliary. Surviving are 2 sons, Roger Wolfe, Fort Wayne, and Rodney Sheets, Columbia City; one daughter, Karla Blair, Columbia City; 6 granddaughters, Michele Gurwell, Melissa Hall, Joslyn and Rachel Sheets, Sheena and Carissa Blair; one grandson, Dustin Blair; 2 great-granddaughters, Kelsey and Lauren Hall; one brother, Paul Wolfe, Larwill; 4 sisters, Violet Wolfe, Pierceton, Beverly Smith, Rowena Shoda and Phyllis Wilson of Columbia City. Sheets Evelyn G, 83, died January 19, 1992 in her Kendallville residence. She was born in Churubusco August 30, 1908, the daughter of Walter and Emma (Klemm) Raypole. On June 30, 1929 in Churubusco, she married Paul S. Sheets. She taught piano for a few years and played for silent movies at a Churubusco theater. She was a member of Trinity Church United Methodist, the former Matinee Music Club, Sigma Beta Sorority and Lady Elks. Sheets Gwendolyn M, 87, of Kendallville died February 19, 2013 at the Parkview Noble Hospital. Born in Fort Wayne on June 19, 1925, she was the daughter of Ralph and Mabel (Orminston) Southern. On October 31, 1946, she married Keith “Tony” Sheets in Fort Wayne. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Avilla. She was a member of American Legion Post #240 and she served our country in the U.S. Navy. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Keith “Tony” Sheets of Kendallville; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Judy Sheets of LaOtto; a daughter and son-in- law, Susan and Mike Harris of LaOtto; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Josephine Robinette. She is preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Sheets in 1978 and Marsha VanGessel in 2004; and her sister, Marilyn Fulk.  Burial of ashes will be at a later date at the Avilla Cemetery. ^ 2-23-2013

Sheets Harry E, 91, died Oct. 8 in Betz Nursing Home, Auburn. He had lived in Auburn 15 years. He was born in Noble County October 11, 1891, the son of William and Rosa (Fisher) Sheets, who lived in Avilla. He married Mildred Miller June 2, 1917. He married Ruby Daum in February 1960. Both are deceased. He was a retired insurance and monument salesman, a former Allen Twp trustee and a former member of the board of directors of the Community State Bank and a member of the Auburn Church of the Nazarene. He is survived by two sons, Donald, Indianapolis, Warren of Pottstown PA; a daughter, Mrs. Arden Gerig of Auburn; and a sister, Mrs. Marshall Diggins of Sturgis MI; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Sheets Leon R, 70, R. R. 1, LaOtto, who died Friday in Bradenton, Fla. A native of Noble County, he was vacationing in Florida when he was stricken with a heart attack. He was a retired employee of the Hubbard Spool Company, Garrett, and at one time served as the Avilla town marshal. Sheets Maude of Allen Twp, who underwent an operation at the hospital in Ft. Wayne, died last Friday at the age of 51 years, 4 months and 4 days. The body was removed to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Perry Fair, at 1215 Wesset St. Most of her life was spent in this vicinity. Some seven years ago the family moved to Fort Wayne and returned here four years ago and resided on a farm west of Avilla. She is survived by her husband, A.C., two daughters, Mrs. Perry Fair of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Mrs. L. B. Gibson of New York City. Services were held at the Evangelical Church in Avilla. Sheets Robert H, 55, was born Jan. 14, 1917 in Noble County, the son of Leon and Irma May (McDonald) Sheets. He married Irene Rowlison Jan. 25, 1938 in LaGrange. They moved to LaGrange from Avilla in 1946. He was a state excise officer, a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge in LaGrange, the Scottish Rite in Fort Wayne and the LaGrange American Legion Post. He was a World War II veteran. He died Tuesday in LaGrange County Hospital. Surviving are his widow; one brother, Keith of Avilla; three sisters, Mrs. Raymond (Josephine) Robinett and Mrs. Harold (June) Schuman, both of Coldwater, Mich., and Mrs. Raymond (Garnet) DeBolt of Fort Wayne. Sheets Verna Ada was born in Noble County, November 3, 1891. She died March 3, 1897, age 5 years and 4 months. On Wednesday Mr. and Mrs. John Sheets were called a few miles away to visit a sick relative and left their two daughters, aged 12 and 5 years respectively, at their home near the Haag school house. During the day the elder daughter had occasion to build a fire in the cook stove. She took a fire kindler saturated with kerosene oil, placed it in the stove and applied a match, at the same time cautioning her little sister to keep away from the stove. The little one did not heed the warning, and before the elder sister could realize what had happened, the little one’s clothing was a mass of flames. Terror stricken, the older sister rushed to the school house for aid, and finally the clothing of the little one was torn from the body, but not until she was frightfully burned about the head, hands and arms. The house, too, had caught fire and but for the outside aid must have surely burned. The funeral was held at Bethlehem Friday. ~ 3-11and 3-18-1897
Sheets Warren J, 75, died June 25 in Oregon as he was returning from a trip to Alaska. He worked at Dow Chemical Co. in Midland, Mich., and Pottstown, Pa. until 1974 when he began a business manufacturing polystyrene products. After he retired in 1990 he lived at Tucson, Ariz., and Interlochen, Mich. He was a WW II veteran. He was born Jan. 11, 1924 in Avilla to Harry and Mildred Sheets. Surviving are his wife, Betty; 2 sons, Warren James if Wyncote, Pa., and Stephen of Grand Haven, Mich.; 3 daughters, Edie Wilson of Mount Horeb, Wis., Gloria Fritz of Pottstown, Pa., and Margaret Yeager of Elysberg, Pa.; and one sister, Rosemary Gerig of Auburn. Brackney of Albion, Mrs. Mary O. Wagner of Bellville, O., and Mrs. Rose Castator of South Milford; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was born in Morrow County, Ohio, March 25, 1849, the daughter of John Jacob and Mary A. Zimmerman, and died in Albion April 2, 1923, aged 74 years, and 8 days. Her parents moved to Indiana when she was about 9 months of age, locating on a farm at Jefferson Center, Noble County. She married Banner R. Sheffer Aug. 11, 1867 while on a visit to Morrow County, and with her husband returned to Indiana, locating at Kendallville in the spring of 1869, where she resided until the death of her husband in 1916. Since that time she made her home at Albion with the exception of about a year in Detroit, Mich. She was a member of the Baptist Church. She was the mother of 7 children, 2 daughters dying in infancy and one son in early manhood. + 4-?-1923
Sheffer John W was born in Morrow County, Ohio Feb. 13, 1837; died at his home near Reading, Mich. Jan. 1, 1904, aged 66 years 10 months, 18 days. When a child he moved with his parents to Jefferson Twp. When about 12 years of age, his father died and the boy was left to the care of strangers. On July 19, 1861 he married Mary Thompson, a daughter of one of the early settlers of Jefferson Twp, and with her moved to Kendallville where he worked at the carpenter trade until 1878, when he came with his family, a wife and 3 daughters, to Steuben County, where they purchased a farm south of Fremont. Last April he sold his farm and purchased another near Reading, Mich. He leaves a widow, 3 daughters and 7 grandchildren. The daughters are Mrs. Hattie Nusbaum, Mrs. Addie Wilkinson and Miss Zoe Sheffer. ^ 1-8-1904

She had been a lifetime resident of Kendallville and was a retired secretary at Flint & Walling where she had been employed 42 years. Sheffer Rachel, wife of Adam Sheffer, died at her residence in this city May 7, aged 67 years, 8 months and 14 days. She was one of the youngest daughters of Rev. Moses and Barbara Starr, born in Huntingdon County, Penn. Aug. 23, 1814; came to Richland (now Morrow) County, Ohio in 1834 where she married Adam Sheffer Oct. 17, 1839. She became a member of the Baptist Church in 1848; was the mother of 6 children, 6 sons and one daughter, 4 of the children survive her. She came to Noble County with her parents, 2 brothers and one sister when 9 years of age, living within one-half mile of Weston Chapel until the age of 17 years when she married George Taughterman when she moved to Ontario, LaGrange County, Ind. Her husband died in 1856, leaving her with 3 children, George, Edward and Samuel. She married Gottlieb Sheis 38 years ago. Their children are Joseph, Charles, Albert and Mary. Sheley Harvey, 73, died at his home 4 miles northwest of here Tuesday. He was born Oct. 25, 1865, the son of Benjamin and Elizabeth Sheley. He married Nettie Hite July 14, 1888. She died June 23, 1933. Sheley Juanita V, 88, of Ligonier, died Nov. 29, 2003 at Goshen Hospital. She graduated from Wawaka High School in 1934. She often entered contests and at one time won a 1946 Pontiac. She was raised in the Baptist religion. She was born June 15, 1915 to Albert and Josephine (Brantigan) Blankenhagen in Akron, Ohio. Sheley Patrick, 77, of Tucson, died Nov. 12, 2006. He had served in the U.S. Army and in Vietnam received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Bronze Star. He was a member of VFW posts in Kendallville and Sierra Vista, Ariz. and the Saint Andrews Church in Sierra Vista. He was born April 16, 1929 in Ligonier to Alfred and Roxie Sheley and married Chi Yon Yun in 1969. She died in 2001. Shell John, 63, farmer 3 miles southeast of Ligonier, committed suicide Thursday by hanging himself in his barn, where the body was later found by his wife. Shellenberger Bessie, 68, widow of the late Charles H. Shellenberger of southwest of Garrett, died at the Garrett Convalescent Home Tuesday from a cerebral hemorrhage. She was born in Noble County on March 11, 1892, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Cramer and had resided in the Garrett area nearly all of her lifetime. In 1918 she and Mr. Shellenberger were married in Fort Wayne. He died in 1957. Sheneman Henry, 67, the blind soldier residing near Diamond Lake died yesterday from heart disease. Shenk Anna E, 79, a resident of Garrett and formerly of rural Churubusco, died November 27, 2000 at Miller's Merry Manor in Garrett. She was born February 27, 1921 in Green Twp in Noble County, a daughter of Charles and Laura (Fulk) Harshbarger, and graduated from Avilla High School in 1939. On November 18, 1939 she married Russell O. Shenk in Albion. She and her husband moved to their family farm in Eel River Twp in Allen County in 1948 where she assisted her husband until his death on March 14, 1992. She moved to Garrett in August of that year. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Ann and Winfield Delauder of Garrett; 3 grandchildren, Mike (and Alberta) Delauder of Garrett, Lynn (and Rhonda) Delauder of St. Joe, and Becky Delauder of Auburn; and 3 great-grandchildren. Shenk Argyl Lee, 74, LaOtto, died October 1, 2003 at his home. He was born April 1, 1929 in Butler Twp, DeKalb County, to Frank and Agnes (Thibaut) Shenk. He married Evanell A. Sutherland on July 23, 1955 in the Pleasant Chapel Church of the Brethren near Ashley. Surviving are his wife; 2 sons, Dennis Lee, and Douglas and his wife, Donna, all of Garrett; 2 grandchildren, Stephanie Nix and Matthew Shenk; 2 great-grandchildren, Sydney and Cole Nix. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Edward and Russell, and a sister Ruth Brado. He worked for International Harvester from 1959 to 1983 and drove for Horizon Transport. He was a lifetime farmer, a member of Cedar Creek Church of the Brethren, Indiana Farm Bureau, Noble County Tractor Club, and an ambassador for Albion Production Credit Corp. Shenk F Edward, 84, died July 23 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was the owner and operator of Shenk Airport for 52 years. He served on the DeKalb County council for 12 years and managed the DeKalb County Airport for 1 ½ years. He was born Dec. 14, 1913 in Auburn. His parents were Frank and Agnes (Thibaut) Shenk. He and Audra Frazier were married Aug. 17, 1933 in Eel River Baptist Church, Churubusco. He was a civilian foreman of maintenance for flight testing at Baer Field, Fort Wayne during WW II. He received the Worthy Charles Taylor Award for 50 years of mechanical service for the FAA. He was a member of Cedar Creek Church of the Brethren, Huntertown Masonic Lodge 589, Fort Wayne Scottish Rite and Shrine Club, Cedar Creek Shrine Club, Flying Shriners, Quiet Birdmen and Flying Octogenarians. Surviving are his wife; one son, Bill of Bosman, Md.; one daughter, Karen Moore of Goshen; one brother, Lee of LaOtto; 5 grandchildren, Chuck and Jim Shenk, Darby Moore-Doyle and Paige and Yancy Moore; and 6 great-grandchildren. Shepherd Arnold,75, of Wauseon, Ohio, formerly of Ligonier, died March 18, 2012, at his residence. He was born on June 5, 1936, to Odis and Ethel (Johnson) Shepherd in Prestonsburg, Ky. In 1954, he married Oralee Whitaker. Tthey resided on their farm in Claypool, Ind., for 18 years. In 1974, Arnold married Sandra Wysong. They resided in Ligonier, Ind. for 30 years until her death in 2005. He is survived by 2 daughters, Sharon (Fred) Miller of Akron, Ind., and Holly (Kevin) Ratliff of Albion, Ind.; 3 sons, Bernard Shepherd of Claypool, Ind., Darrell (Jennifer) Shepherd of Winona Lake, Ind., and Johnny Farlow of Ligonier, Ind.; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Donald (Patricia) Shepherd of Ligonier. He was preceded in death by one grandchild, Amanda Shepherd; and 3 brothers, Riley, Raymond and John Shepherd. He was a farmer in Claypool for 18 years and worked at BRC Rubber in Ligonier and Churubusco for over 20 years. He also worked for Skyline RV in Elkhart, Diamond Rental in Ligonier and the Ligonier Park Department. He was a member of the Ligonier Elks and Ligonier Lions. Shepherd Beatrice, 60, died April 3 at her 641 S. Main St., Avilla home. She was born in Handshoe, Ky., March 16, 1924, the daughter of Reuben and Rebecca (Shepherd) Bailey. She married Tony Shepherd April 13, 1951 in Prestonsburg, Ky. She had lived in the area 27 years and was a member of the Wolcottville Community Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Betty Young of Garrett; a son, Paul of Avilla; two sisters, Mrs. Radia Lowder of Kendallville, and Mrs. Blanche Combs of Lexington, Ky.; one brother, Lloyd Bailey of Kendallville; and one grandchild. Shepherd Ben, 84, died in the Merry Manor Nursing Home Friday. His wife Burlie died Feb. 27, 1977. Shepherd Buford, 83, of Ligonier, died May 5, 2011 at his home. He was born in Mid, Ky., on January 11, 1928, to Wilson and Alice (Allen) Shepherd. He married Marie Smith on May 9, 1947, in Prestonsburg and she died September 9, 2009. He was employed with for CSX for 25 years before retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Salem United Baptist Church near Rome City. Shepherd Burlie, 77, died Thursday at the Kendallville Nursing Home. Shepherd Charles E "Toby", 24, R. 1, Wawaka, an employee of Kendallville water and sewage treatment plant, was killed in a one-vehicle mishap on Ind. 3 approximately 1 ½ miles north of Kendallville Friday. Driving the car with family members as passengers, he attempted to overtake a vehicle while northbound, apparently saw he was not going to be able to make the pass because of an oncoming southbound vehicle and swerved to the left, lost control and rolled over several times. He was born Jan. 23, 1957 in LaGrange County, a son of Arnold and Dora K. (Short) Shepherd. He was a lifelong resident of this area. He and Susie England were married Dec. 16, 1977 in South Milford. Surviving are the wife; the mother of Wawaka; 2 sons, Jeremiah 3, and Charles 1; 3 brothers, Arnold Jr., Kendallville, Guy at home, Jackie, Wawaka; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Edna Sue Harbert in Georgia and Lula Faye Shepherd at home. He retired from Dana Corp. in Fort Wayne in 1985 after 30 years of service. He was a retied pastor; a member of the Independent Full Gospel Church in Ashley; and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was born March 23, 1928 in Hueysville, Ky. to Benjamin and Burlie (Coburn) Shepherd. On Jan. 29, 1951 in Angola he married Vada Edwards. Shepherd Mabel, 42, a daughter of Mr. Wilber Shepherd and teacher in the primary department of the Avilla School until becoming ill, died August 27 in the Corning Research Hospital, Corning, Ark., of carcinoma. Born near Zionsville in Boone County and a graduate of Manchester College, she had been a teacher in Noble County for twenty-five years and a resident of Noble County as long. She moved here with her family seven years ago. She was a member of the Christian Chapel of Merriam. Sheppard B Catherine "Kitty", 73, of 305 N. McLean St., Ligonier, died Tuesday in Goshen Hospital. She was born Jan. 12, 1916 in Fort Wayne, the daughter of William and Laura (Hambrock) Stahlhut. On May 10, 1939 she married R. W. "Bill" Sheppard, who died in 1972. She moved to Ligonier in 1953 from Fort Wayne and for more than 20 years owned Sheppard’s Restaurant in Ligonier. Sherbondy Harold C, 76, of Rome City, died at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, today. Born Nov. 5, 1906 in Fort Wayne, he was the son of William and Augusta (Stephen) Sherbondy. On June 15, 1929 in Fort Wayne, he married Catherine Fry. He moved from Fort Wayne to Rome City 11 years ago. He had been retired from General Electric 14 years after 43 years of service. Sherman Edward B, 65, died at his farm home April 19, 1924. He was born Jan. 30, 1859 in Branch County, Mich. near Coldwater, the son of Stephen D. and Mary Eddy Sherman. He was married to Nettie Richards on Dec. 29, 1879. They had 6 children. One daughter and one son died in infancy, and Otto M. died July 14, 1908. His wife; 2 daughters, Mrs. Edith Seaman and Mrs. B. E. Swihart; and one son, Paul E; one brother, R. E. of Calif.; with 8 grandchildren are left. Much of his early married life was spent on his farm near Hasby’s Corners after which he moved to Ontario where he engaged in the milling business for some years. During this time he became a member of the Congregational Church. He moved to his farm north of Ontario in 1906, where he resided until 1916, when he moved to Howe, where he lived until a short time before his death. Sherman Ellen, 85, one of the early settlers and pioneers of Noble County, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. C. VanGorder, two miles east of Avilla last Friday from complications incident to senility. She was born in Juniata County, Pa. in 1844, and at the age of nine years accompanied by her parents, John and Barbara Haines, to Noble County, where she has continuously made her home with the exception of nine months spent in Missouri. In 1860 she married E. H. Sherman in Avilla, the couple locating on what is now known as the Rigdon Glosser farm in Allen Twp, where they resided until 1886, when they moved to the farm now occupied by the son, M. E. Sherman, a mile east of Kendallville. They continued to make their home there until the death of Mr. Sherman eleven years ago. For the past eight years, she made her home with Mrs. VanGorder. In early life she united with the New School Lutheran Church. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. VanGorder, Mrs. Frank Lutts of Elkhart, and Mrs. P. D. Roberts of Ainsworth, Neb.; and three sons, W. W., M. E., east of Kendallville, and E. H. of Kendallville; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Funeral Monday from the VanGorder home. Sherman Esquire Haines, 89, a retired farmer, died Tuesday at McCray Hospital. He had been a resident of a Kendallville nursing home for the past five years. He was born in Allen Twp September 3, 1872 and had resided in this community all of his life. He was preceded in death by his wife, Millie; two brothers and a sister. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Paul Fulk, R. R. 2, Kendallville; a son, Walter, Fayette, Ohio; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Sherman Gilbert was born April 15, 1814 in Marion Twp, Wayne County, N.Y. He died at age 89 years 9 months and 23 days. At 21 he married Hannah Rowley. They began their married life on a farm. In 1843 he owned a home of 43 acres and the half of a saw mill. In 1849 the Shermans, father, mother and their sons, E. H., A. A. and D. R., came to Noble County and purchased 160 acres in Allen Twp. A 40-acre lot including a log house was soon added to the quarter section. The land was covered with choice timber. A saw mill was erected by them and the lumber converted into lumber and sold. He became a justice of peace. When the war closed, he sold out and he and his sons and families went to southwestern Mo., where he purchased a deserted mill site and placed upon it grist, saw and carding mills. Mrs. Sherman died there. He went to Coldwater, Mich., taking with him a new bride, Mary C. Disler, the daughter of an old friend who had formerly resided in Allen Twp, who survives him. By his second wife he was the father of 2 children, Maye and G. W. Funeral was at Coldwater. ^ 2-26-1904

He was a retired employee of McCray Refrigerator Co. and a member of McCray 20-Year Club, Audubon Society and Faith United Methodist Church. Two sisters preceded him in death. Sherman Lester E, 66, a resident of rural Albion formerly of Merriam, was dead on arrival at Parkview Noble Hospital November 16, 2001. He was born December 28, 1934 in Arcola, a son of Virgil C. and Edna Mae (Butler) Sherman. He graduated from Wolf Lake High School in 1954. He married Lore Lee Beezley in Angola on August 11, 1956. She died December 18, 1995. He served with the U.S. Army Reserve and was later employed for 27 years at Portable Welding in Fort Wayne. He started Sherman Welding in Merriam in 1986 and co-owned the business with his son Todd from 1993 until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of Cornerstone Wesleyan Church in Merriam, a member of the former Avilla Motor Speedway Hall of Fame and the Baer Field Raceway Hall of Fame. He married Linda Marie Rose November 23, 2000. Surviving are his wife; 5 daughters, Charla (Mrs. Bruce) Baughman of Churubusco, Dodie (Mrs. Tony) Hart of Wolf Lake, Malinda S. Sherman Lore Lee, 57, a member of the Avilla Motor Speedway Hall of Fame and a former co-grand marshal of the Wolf Lake Onion Days Festival, died Dec. 18 at her residence near Merriam. She was born June 3, 1938 in Wolf Lake to Raymond R. and Jeanette (Herron) Beezley. The 1956 graduate of Wolf Lake High School spent her formative years in Noble Twp. On Aug. 11, 1956 in Angola she married Lester E. Sherman. Avilla Motor Speedway historians list her as the track’s first female driver. Several of her relatives were also race car drivers at Avilla Motor Speedway. Later in life she worked at McDonald’s Restaurant in Columbia City. Sherman Mary (Eddy), of Elkhart, wife of Stephen D. Sherman, died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. William Frampton in that city April 22 of rheumatism of the heart. She was a pioneer of Allen Twp, having moved there from Wayne County, Ohio in 1845 with her father’s family, Myron R. Eddy, deceased. She married Stephen David Sherman July 19, 1854. They had 3 children, Elizabeth A. Frampton of Elkhart, Edward B. Sherman of Brighton, LaGrange County, and R. E. Sherman of Elkhart. She leaves 11 grandchildren; one brother, Reuben of Reynolds, White County, Ind.; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Sarah Baughman of Monon, White County, and Martha Monger, Avilla. She resided in Lisbon from 1865 to 1881 when she moved to Elkhart. She was a carpet weaver. She leaves a nice little home in Elkhart which she purchased from her father’s estate. Sherman Otis, resident of this vicinity, died this morning at the home of his brother, D. C., two miles east of Lisbon, aged 46 years, 9 months and 10 days. Death was due to cancer of the stomach. On June 23, 1935 she married Hugh Sherwin in Nashville. She was a retired school teacher, serving in the Washington Center, Ligonier, Churubusco and Wolf Lake Elementary schools. She was a member of Sparta United Church of Christ, Washington Twp Home Demonstration Club, Kimmell Senior Citizens Club and State Retired Teachers Association. Sherwood Carl C, 43, of Bombay, India, former Kendallville boy, died last Thursday or Friday in London, England, from a tropical fever. He was born in 1885 near Ligonier, the son of Mrs. Etta and the late Charles Sherwood. During the early part of his life his parents moved to Kendallville where he graduated from high school and later entered Purdue University and graduated there from the school of engineering. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Kendallville and the Church of England at Bombay. He was associated with the Masonic and Ben Hur orders. He is survived by the widow; a daughter and a son now in London, England; the mother; and a sister, Mrs. Lora Rendel in Kendallville. + 9-?-1928
Sherwood Claude V "Pete", 85, a resident of Swan Twp died Sept. 20 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Fort Wayne. He was born in DeKalb County on Dec. 10, 1911, a son of John V. and Grace (Conkey) Sherwood, and spent his formative years near Waterloo. On Nov. 29, 1934 he married Velda Fulk. They lived in Auburn, moving to the present family farm in Swan Twp in 1943. He was employed at the Auburn Foundry as a young man. He was engaged in farming for most of his life and was a construction worker for Newport Construction in Fort Wayne. He was a school bus driver for the LaOtto School for a number of years. Surviving are the widow; 2 daughters, Mrs. Stanley (Joan) Gray of Churubusco, and Karen Dicke of Huntertown; 5 grandchildren, Todd Dicke of Huntertown, Troy Dicke of Kendallville, Kirk Gray of Churubusco, Lisa Allen of Huntertown and Mrs. Philip (Claudia) Stephan of Fort Wayne; and 5 great-grandchildren. Sherwood Martin VanBuren was born in New York, July 14, 1835, the son of James and Rebekah Sherwood, and died at the home of his son Orlando James in Green Twp Oct. 20, 1921, aged 86 years, 3 months and 6 days. He was one of a family of 7 children 4 boys and 3 girls, all of which except one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth McClurg of Minn., have preceded him in death. When he was 3 years old his parents came to Ohio, and when he was about 14 the family moved and settled near Albion. At the age of 20 he married Emaline Connor. They had 3 children, Franklin, who died at the age of 4, and O. J. and Mrs. L. W. Besecker, who survive him, also 3 granddaughters and 5 great-grandchildren. During the Civil War he joined the Army of the North and offered himself in defense of his country. He was honorably discharged at the close of the war. He was a very plain man. Sherwood Velda M, 85, a resident of Swan Twp, died March 4 at Provena Sacred Heart Home. She was born May 1, 1913 in Swan Twp, a daughter of Frank and Bertha B. Eberly Fulk. She graduated from LaOtto High School in 1931. She married Claude V. "Pete" Sherwood near Churubusco on Nov. 29, 1934. He died Sept. 20, 1997. Shew Benjamin died at his residence in York Twp on June 2, 1878, aged 64 years, 11 months, 10 days. He was born in Stark County, Ohio, June 22, 1813 and immigrated to Noble County in the autumn of 1844. He lived during the winter of 1844-45 on Adam Kimmel’s land in Jefferson Twp but the following season moved on to his own land in York Twp where he lived and died. He leaves a wife and 6 children, one of the latter being Joseph M. Shew, now a resident of this place. His body was buried in the Osborn burying ground. > 6-6-1878
Shew Catherine was born April 3, 1822 in Stark County, Ohio, and died May 31, 1909 in Washington Twp, aged 87 years, one months and 23 days. She was the daughter of Joseph and Mary Ann Masters. At the age of 18 she married Benjamin Shew in June 1840. In Oct. 1844 they moved from Ohio to Indiana and in York Twp on the north ½ of the northeast ¼ of section 1, where she resided until Oct. 1889. On June 2, 1878 her husband died, leaving her the care of the home which she parted with in 1889, since which time making her home with her eldest son, Joseph. They had 5 boys and 2 girls, one boy dying in infancy. Those remaining are Joseph M, Kimmell, George M., Kendallville, William W., Albion, Benjamin F., Seneca, Mo., Almira Thompson of Goshendale, Wash., and Frances Thompson of Orchards, Wash. She leaves 35 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters and 2 brothers, Mrs. Mary Eversole of Wawaka, Mrs. Nancy Rodman of Wolcottville, William J. Masters of LaGrange, Mrs. Sarah Wilcox of Centerville, Iowa, and Philip Masters of Hillsboro, Oregon. Her last act was in wanting to plant a few select pumpkin seeds, against the protest of her son, and had got out of the house yard a few feet when she fell, injuring herself, causing hemorrhage of the brain. She is survived by the husband; the children; six grandchildren; three brothers, H. V. of Gary, Ind., A. M. of Los Angeles, Cal., and C. Shew Frances, 39, wife of Ben W. Shew, died Saturday. She and Ben W. Shew were married about 20 years ago and have resided the greater part of that time at Memphis where he is employed as manager of the Memphis branch of the Oliver Farm Equipment Co. Surviving are her husband; a sister, Mrs. C. B. Carrolton of Washington, D.C.; an adopted daughter, aged 5 years, and a baby son, age 7 months, adopted last March. Herald P. Tuttle of Detroit, Mich., and Herbert Shew of Fort Wayne, have returned from Memphis, Tenn. where they were called by the death of their sister-in-law, Mrs. Ben W. Shew. Mrs. W. C. Harder will return home tomorrow. Her tragic death occurred last Saturday, she having ended her life at her home by shooting herself through the heart with an automatic pistol. Shew Herald P, 63, city clerk-treasurer at Kendallville since Jan. 1, 1952, died June 6, 1958 in McCray Hospital after suffering a stroke at home. He was a lifelong resident of this city and prior to becoming clerk-treasurer was an employee for 35 years of the Kendallville News-Sun, first as a reporter, then becoming advertising manager in the early 1930’s. He also served as Noble County coroner in the late 1920’s and early 1930’s. He was born Jan. 15, 1895 and was veteran of WW I. He was a member of Kendallville Post 86 American Legion and Kendallville Lodge 1194 Elks. Surviving are the widow, the former Esther Hayes, whom he married May 29, 1924; a daughter, Mrs. Robert C. Shew J Eugene, 91, of Columbia City, died July 11, 2004 at Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana. He was a farmer and retired in 1978 after 72 years at Dana Weatherhead. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Chain O' Lakes Barbershop Chorus. He was born Oct. 16, 1912, the first caesarean birth at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, to George Jacob and Effie Jean (Flint) Shew. He graduated from Wolf Lake High School. On Sept. 12, 1936 he married Lucille I. Hougendobler. Surviving are his wife; 3 sons and 2 daughters-in-law, Phil and Linda, Russell, Jon and Rosie, all of Columbia City; 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Shew William W was born in Noble County Oct. 16, 1861 and died at his home in Albion on July 2, 1944, being 82 years, 8 months and 16 days of age. There were 6 children in the family, all of whom have preceded him in death. In 1884 he married Emma Frazure and they had 3 children, Mrs. Edwin Malony of Albion, Ernest of Kendallville, and Fred of Decatur, Mich. There are 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. In 1928 he married Mrs. Ruth Busz, who with one stepson, Jacob Busz and one step-daughter-in-law, Sadie Busz, survive him. On his 80th birthday he was baptized in the Adventist Church at Wolf Lake and became a member of the church. For many years he served as Albion Twp assessor. Services at the late home on July 4. Shew William W, founder of the Churubusco State Bank, died Jan. 29 in Colonial Crest Convalescent Home, Fort Wayne. He was past president and chairman of the bank board, retiring in Jan. from the board after 48 years of service. He was the trustee of Smith Twp from 1952 to 1960. From 1922 to 1951 he owned Wm. W. Shew Auto Sales in Churubusco. He was born Feb. 16, 1887 in Noble County to George Milo and Mary (Frazure) Shew. On June 23, 1909 he married Dollie Hinkley. She died in 1970. He had resided in Churubusco since 1923 after moving there from Fort Wayne where he worked for Adams-Shew Implement Sales Co. He was a member of the Churubusco Masonic Lodge and the First Christian Church, Kendallville. Survivors include 4 daughters, Mrs. Glen Derf, R. 2, Churubusco, Mrs. Michael Bloom, Fort Wayne, Mrs. Ralph Swenson, Fremont, Calif., and Mrs. Keith Johnson, Fort Wayne; 2 sons, George, Churubusco, and Richard, Fort Wayne; one brother, Herbert, Leesburg, Fla.; 19 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. Shewmaker Robert Frederick, 44, of Muncie, died Wednesday when his automobile struck a tree 2 ½ miles east of Avilla on State Road 8. A passing motorist found the wrecked car and body and notified authorities. Last rites were held at Muncie Friday. It appeared a front tire blew out, causing him to lose control. + 8-?-1941
