Pepple Abraham was born May 27, 1810 in Bedford County, Penn., and died
Dec. 7, 1893, aged 83 years, 6 months and 11 days, at his home in Allen Twp. He was married to Mary
Koons, May 2, 1833. In September, 1842, he and his family, then consisting of P. B. Pepple of Kendallville, G. W.
Pepple of LaPorte, Ellen C. and Maria, who still reside at the old home, removed
to Crawford County, Penn. Not being pleased with their new location, they moved
again eighteen months later and settled in Richland County, O. This location,
though a good one, was abandoned on account of the high value placed upon the
land, and they were compelled to go further west where land was less improved
and cheaper. Mr. Pepple and his family arrived in this county in November 1846
and stopped with the late Jehu Foster until the present home farm (which was
then a dense forest) was purchased. In order to be near their work they moved in
with the late F. Amos Black, where they were kindly permitted to remain until a
cabin could be prepared, which was erected near the place where the family
residence now stands. They had expected to remain but a few days with Mr. Black,
but because of then prevalent disease, chills and fever, which spared but few,
the days became weeks, and weeks months before they were able to get into their
new home, which they did the following February. Mr. Pepple was an upright,
straight-forward, industrious man; one who preferred the quiet of his own home
and fireside to the active, bustling affairs of the public, and for this reason
was seldom seen away from home. Possessed of sterling integrity, he scorned the
ways of crafty and designing men. He was an obliging neighbor, a kind and
indulgent husband and parent and a strict Christian gentleman. ~ 12-?-1893 ^
