Otis Amos Ray, Kendallville’s druggist, was born in Dalton, Ohio in 1868. He lived in Hicksville and Defiance, Ohio, before entering the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy where he studied one year. He worked in a large drug establishment in Brooklyn, N.Y. for one year before coming to Kendallville, where he worked for G. H. Lohman for 2 years. In 1894 he opened one of the finest drug stores in northeastern Indiana, and he became known as one of Kendallville’s best merchants. In 1893 he married Allie Williams. They had one child, Warren. + 1962
Otis Delbert G, 55, Corunna native, died May 9 in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Fort Wayne. A retired dispatcher with Carson, McDougal and Wigett Co., he was a veteran of WW II. Surviving are his wife Regina; nine sons, Steven, Huntertown, Dana, Los Angeles, Calif., Thomas, West Germany, Kenneth and Rickey, Fort Wayne, Rodney, Belton, Tex., and Phillip, Charles and Joseph, all at home; five daughters, Kathleen Curran, Sue Otis and Christi Kimmel, Fort Wayne, Carol Smith, Columbia City, and Mary Otis, at home; two brothers, Robert, Ossian, and Ralph, Fort Wayne; three sisters, Patricia Huffman, Fort Wayne, Bonnie Badger and Donna Potts, Angola. Ott Abraham was born in Preble County Jan. 5, 1816 and died at his home in Noble County March 21, 1896, aged 80 years, 2 months and 15 days. He first came to this county in 1836 but returned to Ohio and in 1838 was married to Sarah Morgan of Preble County, Ohio. In the fall of 1804 he, with his wife and one child, came to this county and settled on the farm he purchased in 1836 and lived there until death. He was the father of 9 children, five having preceded him to the heavenly home. He was a member of the Christian Chapel at Merriam. His companion survives him. + Clippings book
Ott Abraham, 80, retired farmer, died on Wednesday morning of last week at Merriam of heart trouble. Last rites were held Saturday from Christian Chapel in Merriam with burial in the chapel cemetery. Surviving are the widow, 2 sons, 5 daughters and 4 brothers. + 12-?-1936
Ott Alice A, 78, R. 1, North Webster, died Thursday (d. 4-12-1979) at home. She was born Aug. 27, 1900 in Benton County to George and Effie (Flint) Shew. Sept. 4, 1919 she married Rev. William (W.C.) Ott, a retired Wesleyan minister. A member of College Wesleyan Church in Marion, she was retired from Wesleyan World Headquarters in Marion. They moved from Marion in 1974. Survivors include the husband; 5 sons, George of Bartlesville, Okla., Ellman and Francis of Marion, Jack of Columbia, S. C., and Harold of Upland; one brother, Eugene of Columbia City; one sister, Tamson Craven of Newberg, Ore.; 18 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Ott Alma E, 77, R. 2, Avilla, died August 28 at her home. She was born March 15, 1908 in Noble County, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Bauman) Weimer. He married Harley Ott Sept. 6, 1930 in Avilla. She was a homemaker and a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Avilla. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid and a member of the Farm Bureau. Surviving are her husband; three daughters, Mrs. Ray (Jean) Leffel and Mrs. John (Ruth Ann) Seidel, Kendallville, and June, at home; three sons, Harold, Fort Wayne, Larry and Paul, Avilla; a sister, Mildred Schoonard, Battle Creek, Mich.; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Ott Alta A, 88, died at her home in Noble Twp Dec.10. The eldest child of McIntire and Sophia Seymoure, she was born Feb. 6, 1859. She became a member of Merriam Christian Chapel in early girlhood. She married Thomas Ott Dec. 11, 1879. He died in 1941. She was a member of the Order of Pythian Sisters in Wolf Lake. Funeral was conducted at the old homestead Dec. 13. Surviving are 3 sons, Charles A., Frank J., Harvey T.; and the daughter, Lura; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Anna Hire. + 12-?-1947

, 91, died at Northridge Village Nursing Home in Albion on December 26, 2012. He was born on January 26, 1921 to Harvey and Hildreth (Waugh) Ott.  He was a 1939 graduate of Wolf Lake High School.  He served on the Noble County Soil and Water Conservation and 4-H Boards and worked at J.I. Case in Churubusco. He is survived by his wife, Thelma (Weber), whom he married on January 31, 1942; 4 daughters and one son, Carol (Max) Young of Albion, Connie (Roger) Seymoure of Columbia City, Barbara (David) Munk of Columbia City, Vicki (Steve) Gaerte of Albion and Rex (Renee) Ott of Albion; 11 grandchildren; 2 great- grandchildren; and a brother, Kenneth Ott. Ott Carilla
, 80, (b. 8-31-1873 - d. 4-24-1954) was found dead Saturday in her home eight miles south of Albion. Burial, church cemetery. Ill with a heart disorder, she was found about noon by a son, Carl, who lived with her. It is believed she died about three hours earlier. Surviving besides the son are two other sons, Willard, Brimfield and Harley, Avilla; two daughters, Mrs. Alfred Rider, Pierceton, and Mrs. Edward King of Roanoke; a sister, Mrs. Jennie Renkenberger, Avilla; a half-brother, Charles Lock, Albion; 16 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. Ott Carrie Oddessa, about 75, a resident of the Brimfield community for 20 years, died Dec. 28, 1965 at Van Wert County Hospital, Van Wert, Ohio, from a cerebral hemorrhage. Born July 5, 1890 near Elida, Ohio, she was the daughter of Enos and Lydia Brenneman Huffer. She married Willard Ott, who died in 1960. She was a member of the Brimfield Methodist Church and the Brimfield Grange. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Earl Stanley of Van Wert; two stepchildren, Ray Ott of Albion, and Mrs. Kenneth Clifton of West Milton, Ohio. Ott Charles A, 87, Noble County potato grower, died Aug. 10, in Whitley County Hospital. Funeral was Wednesday in Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Born near Merriam Sept. 4, 1881, he was a son of Thomas M. and Alta Seymoure Ott. He was educated at Wolf Lake High School and Tri State College, Angola. His marriage to Mary Jane Stults was on Feb. 17, 1909. They first resided on a farm in Noble Twp. In March 1941 they moved to the present farm on the west shore of Big Lake. Mrs. Ott died July 28, 1963. Surviving are two sons, Thomas A. of R. 4, Columbia City, and James M. of R. 3, Columbia City; a daughter, Mrs. Richard Moore (Mildred) of Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Harvey T. and Frank J.; and a sister, Miss Lura E. Ott Clint, 78, former postmaster, carpenter, and farmer of Kimmell, died Dec. 16 at McCray Hospital. Born March 9, 1891 in Noble Twp to John and Martha (Manning) Ott, he married Edna Harlan July 12, 1913. He has been a lifetime resident of Noble County. Surviving are the wife; one son, Roger, Mooresville, N.C.; 3 daughters, Mrs. George (Flo) Carson, Peru, Mrs. John (Edith) Stahly, South Bend, and Mrs. Bill (Caralee) Hursey, Cromwell; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Bill, Marion, Jesse, Albion; and 3 sisters, Mrs. Archie (Clara) Friskney, Mrs. Mary Edwards of Orangevale, Calif., and Mrs. Vada Gaff, Fort Wayne. Three children and one great-grandchild preceded him in death, daughter Alice 1919, sons Lyle killed in Italy in 1944, and Lester killed in plane crash in 1968, and great-grandchild, Todd Clint Stahly, South Bend. Ott Earl S, 89, died Sunday at his residence near Burr Oak. He was born July 12, 1907 in Noble County, the son of Jesse and Ressie (Lock) Ott. On June 23, 1934 in Burr Oak he married Luella Kiester. She died in 1984. He was a retired accountant for Dana Corp. in Auburn and a member of Burr Oak Baptist Church. Ott Edna M, 91, of R. 1, Kimmell, died Tuesday in Kenney Retirement Community, Ligonier. She was born July 10, 1896 in Green Twp, the daughter of Dan and Alice (Huntsman) Harlan. On July 12, 1913 in Cosperville, she married Clinton O. Ott, who died in 1969. She was a lifetime area resident and had worked as a cook for Fort Wayne State School and for Essex Wire Co. in Ligonier. She was a member of Sparta United Church of Christ. Surviving are 2 daughters, Mrs. George (Flo) Carson of Peru, and Mrs. Bill (Caralee) Hursey of Cromwell; a son, Roger of Mooresville, N.C.; a brother, Dan Harlan of Boynton Beach, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Ott Ellman C, 64, a 1941 graduate of Albion High School, was killed Oct. 5, 1986 in an auto accident in Grant County. Also killed in the same accident was his wife, Joyce A. Ott. A veteran of the U. Ott Eugene M, 71, died Friday in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was born August 11, 1922 in Noble Twp to Harvey and Marguerite (Waugh) Ott. He married Ruth Owen November 28, 1940 in Albion. He farmed in Noble Twp on the same farm for 50 years and was employed as a field service representative for Teledyne Total Power for 21 years, retiring in 1988. Ott Frank J, 104, died Tuesday in Willow Ridge Nursing home in Fort Wayne. He was born October 25, 1886 in Noble County, the son of Thomas Morgan and Alta (Seymoure) Ott. He married Ruby Belle Gandy and she preceded him in death. He married Edna M. Patton Bonham, who died July 26, 1982. He was a retired Noble Twp farmer who was educated in Merriam School and resided 2 miles south of Wolf Lake. Ott Fred A, 88, of Ligonier, died Sept. 11, 2009 in his home from cancer. He was retired from Becker's Heating, Pluming and Electrical. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II and was held as a prisoner of war for 19 months. He was a member of the Ligonier United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 243 and the VFW. He was born March 28, 1921 in Elkhart County to Ivan and Faye (Stoner) Ott. He married Jean Boyd in 1945. Surviving are his wife; 2 sons, Wayne Ott of Syracuse and Steven (Diane) Ott of Vermilion, Ohio; 7 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Services Sept. 14 at Yeager Funeral Home. Ott George died at his residence in Green Twp Sept. 9, 1887, aged 69 years, 11 months and 15 days. He was born in Preble County, Ohio in 1818. He was one of the pioneer citizens of Noble County, having moved here when this county was in its wildest state. He was one of Green Township’s most substantial farmers and at one time filled the office of county commissioner. He was a Republican. He was a Christian, having belonged to church a great portion of his life. He leaves a wife and 7 children. Funeral at Christian Chapel Sunday last. Ott Gertie Mae was born Nov. 22, 1889 in Green Twp to Robert and Adella (Hyre) Hire. She married William Denver Ott March 1, 1914. They spent most of their married life in Noble County. He preceded her in death Sept. 16, 1968. She was a lifelong member of Blue River Church of the Brethren. She attended Manchester College and Tri State at Angola and had taught at Cherry and Wildcat Schools in Noble County. She died Sunday in Alfran Nursing Home in Columbia City. Survivors include two sons, Dr. Robert E, San Francisco, Calif., and Ronald H., Churubusco; two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Eva) Herb, Kendallville, and Mrs. John (Marjorie) Deveny, San Jose, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Ott Glen D. Ott, rural Churubusco, died Dec. 24, 2009, at Parkview Noble Hospital. He was born on Aug. 6, 1927 in Allen County, a son of Thomas Lawrence and Laura Pearl (Fisher) Ott. He graduated from Huntertown High School, and was engaged in farming there until 1980 when he sold the farm to his son and moved to Churubusco. He retired in 1987 as a machinist and fork lift operator for Dana Corporation in Fort Wayne after 38 years. He was a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. On May 28, 1948, he was married in Wolf Lake to Phyllis G. Bender. She preceded him in death on Aug. 30, 2009. Surviving are his children Judy (Roy) Langdon of Sheridan, Larry (Christina) Ott of Albion, and Jerry A. (Pamela) Ott of Churubusco; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister Jessie Dice Johnson; and by four brothers Everett Ott, Herman Ott, Russell Ott, and Howard Ott. Funeral Tuesday at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco. Ott Harland Zay, 83, of R. 8, Columbia City, Noble County, died Nov. 29 at his home. He was born Aug. 13, 1901 in Noble County, a son of Abraham and Jane Harlan Ott, in the home where he resided near Crane Lake. His lifetime was spent farming the home place. On Aug. 29, 1923 he was married to Ruby Huntsman. His church affiliation was with Merriam Christian Chapel. Surviving are his wife; a son, Phil, R. 8, Columbia City; and a sister, Mrs. Frank (Ruth) Bitting of Thorncreek Twp. Three brothers and four sisters are deceased. Ott Harley, 93, of Avilla, died July 2, 1996 in Kendallville. He was born July 2, 1903 in Noble County, a son of George and Carilla (Lock) Ott. On Sept. 6, 1930 he married Alma E. Weimer in Avilla. She died Aug. 28, 1985. A member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, he was an Indiana State Highway Dept. employee for many years. Surviving are 3 sons, Harold of Fort Wayne, Larry of Kendallville, and Paul of Avilla; 3 daughters, Mrs. Ray (Jean) Leffel of Kendallville, June Ott of Avilla, and Mrs. John (Ruthann) Seidel of Kendallville; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Ott Harold, 80, died Wednesday at his residence near Merriam. He was born February 1, 1918 in Allen County to Thomas Lawrence and Pearl (Fisher) Ott. On September 30, 1950 in Churubusco he married Joan C. Deck. He served with the U.S. Army's 38th Division during WW II and was employed at Dana Corp. in Fort Wayne for 32 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of American Legion Post 157 in Churubusco, Kendallville VFW, the 40 & 8 Local 1427 in Fort Wayne, Albion Eagles Aerie 2455 and the 151st Infantry Alumni Association. Surviving are his wife; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Robert D. and Lois Ott of Cromwell and Lawrence D. and Rochelle Ott of Sherwood, Ark.; one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Leland Meroney of Wolcottville; one brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Phyllis Ott of Churubusco; a sister, Jessie Johnson of Fort Wayne; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Ott Harold V, 84, died Monday in Kingston Care Center in Fort Wayne. He was born in Noble County on January 2, 1911 to Fred and Verda (Weber) Ott. He was a retired Noble County lifetime farmer. Ott Harold W, 82, died December 21, 2000 at Provena Sacred Heart Home in Avilla. He was born September 2, 1918 in Wolf Lake to Harvey and Hildreth M. (Waugh) Ott. On April 2, 1938 he married Ocie Faye Loveall at the Lutheran parsonage in Albion. She died December 22, 1991. He had been self-employed in welding and fabrication since the 1960s. He operated Ott Fabrication in Bonita Springs, Fla., where he had lived for more than 35 years before returning to Avilla in 1994. He had also worked for Fordeck-Kemerly and McCray Corp in Kendallville, and had been an export manager for J.J. Case. He wrote a fictional autobiography entitled Stream Lined Turtle. He was a member of Veterans of WW II and of the Korean Conflict, the Constructing Bridges & Airports American Legion of Fort Myers, Fla., and the Estero Baptist Church of Estero. Ott Harvey T, 79, R. 2, died Wednesday in Whitley County Hospital. He was born Nov. 28, 1893 in Noble Twp, the son of Thomas M. and Alta A. (Seymoure) Ott. He was married Sept. 12, 1917 to H. Marguerite Waugh. She preceded him in death. They lived their entire married life on the same farm on which he was born. He was a school teacher in Whitley County for some years but was a farmer most of his life. He was a member of Knights of Pythias Lodge, Wolf Lake, DOKK Lodge, Fort Wayne. Ott Isadora was born near Burr Oak south of Albion Aug. 27, 1859, the daughter of Jacob and Rachel Winebrenner. She was one of five children, all of whom with the parents have preceded her in death except one brother, Henry of near Burr Oak. In 1877 she was married to Cornelius Ott. They have 5 children, Mrs. Nellie Brackney, Mrs. Annis Brown and Frederick M. Ott of near Albion, Mrs. Effie Dull of Ligonier, and Orlando Ott of Onaway, Mich. There are 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was a charter member of the Burr Oak Church. On Feb. 3 she died, 70 years, 5 months and 11 days of age. Ott Luther A, dean of the department of aeronautical engineering of Tri-State College, Angola, and a native of Noble County, died Dec. 21 following an abdominal operation at the Cameron Hospital, Angola. He was 44 years, 10 months and 21 days of age. He was born in Noble County Jan. 30, 1890, the son of Frederick and Sarah Francis Ott and spent his early life here. He entered the service of his country on Aug. 8, 1917 and for 2 years served in the World War, about 18 months overseas. He was a member of the American Legion Angola Post No. 31. In 1929 he was active in forming the Steuben County Post No. 1686 of VFW. He was a member of several engineering associations. Ott Ord, son of John and Martha Ott, was born Oct. 19, 1886 on the farm at Burr Oak where the Baptist Church was built and now stands. He was one of 8 children, the parents having died, his death being the first break among them. Those surviving are Mrs. Emma Huntsman, Mrs. Mary Edwards, Mrs. Archie Friskney, all of Albion, Mrs. Leo Gaff of Auburn, Jesse E., William C. of Albion, and Clinton of Kimmell. In 1914 he married Effie Page, and 2 daughters, survive him, Delight at home, Mrs. Frank Garard of Fort Wayne; and one little granddaughter, Paula Garard. Mrs. Ott died in 1933. In Sept. 1934 he was married to Mrs. Mildred Bauserman of Fort Wayne, who with her son. J. William, survives him. The family lived in Fort Wayne until Christmas time of 1939 when they moved to Los Angeles, Cal. Only recently he went to near Las Vegas, Nev. to work, when on Aug. 20 he was stricken with a fatal heart attack. He was past 54 years old. As a boy he joined the Burr Oak Baptist Church. Ott Sarah was born in Preble County, Ohio, Aug. 13, 1854 and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Eugene Rensch on June 30, 1941. On Oct. 28, 1875 she married Jasper Ott. He died June 25, 1919. They have 3 daughters, Mrs. Effie Moore and Mrs. Mary Hart deceased, and Mrs. Eugene Rensch; 5 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Elijah Ott; and two sisters, Mrs. Eliza Jane Click of Eaton, O., and Mrs. Anna Chambers of Lewisburg, O. She was a member of the Christian Chapel. Ott Sarah Ellen, about 89, a resident of Burr Oak, died July 29, 1968 at the Whitley County Hospital. She was born June 28, 1879 in Thorncreek Twp, Whitley County, a daughter of Calphenous and Catherine (Gray) Surfus. Her first husband, George W. Quinn, died in 1931. She later married Frederick Ott, who died in 1966. She had lived most of her life in the southern part of Noble County except for 15 years near Valparaiso. She was baptized into the Baptist Church and had attended Ormas and Burr Oak Baptist Churches. She is survived by one son, Ora B. Quinn of R. 4, Albion; one stepson, Harold Ott of R. 2, Albion; 8 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Ott Thomas A, 75, a native of Noble County who graduated from Wolf Lake High School in 1927, died Oct. 3, 1985 at Columbia City Community Care Center. He was born to Charles A. and Mary Jane Stults Ott and spent his early life on farms in the Big Lake and Wolf Lake areas before graduating from high school. After completing his education he began a beekeeper business which continued until his health failed. For a number of years he served as an Indiana State Beekeeper’s inspector, and served as a Thorncreek Twp school bus driver in Whitley County for 15 years. Dec. 23, 1949 he married Wilma B. Cox and they spent their married life at a home on their farm south of Tri-Lakes. During WW II he served as a sergeant in the U. S. Army in both England and France. He was a member of several beekeeper organizations. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mary Lou Huntley of High Lake; a grandson, Adam M. Huntley; a sister, Mrs. Richard Moore of Waynedale; and a brother, James of Big Lake. A son, Steven, died in 1951. Funeral last Friday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home in Columbia City. Ott Thomas M, son of Abraham and Sarah Ott, was born Dec. 15, 1853 in Noble County and died March 25 of old age. On March 11, 1879 he was married to Alta Seymoure. They had 5 children, Frank, Charles, Harvey, Lura and Elmira. He lived to a ripe old age, always lived on the place where he died. He united with the Chapel when a boy and was faithful until death. Ott Wayne M, 64, of Lake Papakeechie in Kosciusko County, and formerly of Ligonier, died February 7, 2013, at IU Health Goshen Hospital. He was born on March 6, 1948, to Jean and Fred Ott in Kendallville.  He is survived by his daughter, Ericka (Jeff) Shull of Wawaka; 4 grandchildren, Brenna, Cortlynn, Amelia and Miles Shull; his mother, Jean Ott of Ligonier; and a brother, Steve Ott of Vermilion, Ohio. Ott Willard, 65, of Brimfield, who was critically injured Jan. 25 in a truck-pedestrian mishap approximately 200 feet east of the Brimfield bridge on U. S. 6, died March 3, 1960 in McCray Hospital. Retired from the Industrial Engineering Co. in Brimfield except for some part-time work there, was knocked to the pavement as he walked from the factory to his home. He was hit by a marker light support bracket on a 36-foot trailer loaded with boats which was being pulled by a westbound truck. He was reported to have been walking with his back to traffic and seemed to be "weaving" along the road. Born June 20, 1894 in Ohio, he was a member of the Wawaka Grange. In 1985 she married Paul Overley. She moved to Avilla in 1947 where she and her first husband owned and operated DeLucenay Drug Store for 31 years. She and her second husband owned and operated Lakes' Edge Farm near Kimmell. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Avilla and served on the Noble County Public Library Board of Directors for more than 12 years. In 1985 he married Kathryn DeLucenay who died in 1993. A WW II veteran who served as a U.S. Army Corps engineer in Germany and the Philippines, he lived in Fort Wayne and Churubusco before moving to Kimmell. He was a Sun-Dri representative and a wholesale drug salesman for Fort Wayne Pharmacy and Michiana Pharmacy, retiring in 1985. Surviving are 2 sons, Thomas of Toledo and William of Casselberry, Fla.; 2 sisters, Mary Wiselogel of Albion, Mich., and Cathleen Erickson of Fair Field, Tenn.; one brother, Joseph of Marshall, Mich.; and 6 grandchildren. She was a graduate of Kendallville High School; a member of First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis; a charter member of Mary Martha White Shrine, Kendallville; and a 75-years member of LaGrange OES. Oviatt Silas was born Aug. 9, 1820 and died Nov. 28, aged 77 years 3 months and 19 days. He was a son of Benjamin Oviatt who came from Connecticut and located in Hudson, O. in 1801 where he was born the 6th child in a family of 11 children, only 2 of whom still live, a brother who resides on the old homestead and a sister. On Sept. 13, 1841 he married Jemima Sapp. They had 5 children, 4 of whom survive, Mrs. Calvin Bissell of Aurora, O., Orson Q and B Frank of this place, and Mrs. W. H. Canniff of Cleveland, O. The third child, Emma, died at the age of 2 years and 3 months. He leaves a wife, one brother, one sister, 4 children and 12 grandchildren. The family, with the exception of the oldest daughter who had married, removed from Ohio to Kendallville in the spring of 1867. He was a member of the church at Cedar Lake. ^ 12-24-1897

Owen Charles David, 38, Albion, (b. 12-31-1941) died April 12, 1980, as the result of a 2-car collision on U.S. 33 just north of the Noble-Whitley County Line. The other car struck Owen’s after passing another car and going out of control. He was born in Fort Wayne to Clarence and Virginia Deutsch Owen and on June 22, 1963 he married Judith Anderson. He graduated from Albion High School in 1959 and had been active in Albion Lions Club, served as scoutmaster for Albion Boy Scout Troop 507 and was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Albion. Owen Clara, 76, died last Thursday at her residence north of Green Center. She was a native of Green Twp, born Sept. 2, 1889, a daughter of Homer and Sarah McCoy Diffendarfer. In 1909 she married Fred Owen and they established their home in Green Twp, where they spent their entire married life with the exception of two years in Jefferson Twp. She was a lifelong member of Green Center EUB Church and a member of its missionary and aid societies. Deutsch July 6, 1940. He moved from Green Twp to Albion in 1961 and had been a Noble County Highway Department employee many years. He was a member of Green Center United Methodist Church. Owen Delmer Franklin, 59, of Kendallville, was found dead Monday, his body slumped in the back seat of an automobile at the filling station which he operated in Kendallville. He apparently died of carbon monoxide poisoning. It appeared he had been dead about 6 hours when found. The car was parked in the lubrication room of the filling station, which was closed. The ignition key of the auto was turned on and the doors of it were open. He was formerly a farmer in the Ligonier community. Surviving are a daughter and a son. + 1-?-1941

Owen Elvie, 78, a native of Avilla, was born Aug. 5, 1895 to Francis and Hannah (Leitch) Owen and married his wife, Sarah, in Albion, Sept. 19, 1917. She survives. She was born May 14, 1917 in Chicago to Brice and Mary (Jerome) Hall. She married Richard B. Owen II on Oct. 5, 1935 in Kendallville. He died Oct. 11, 1992. Owen Forrest Jr, 41, of Ligonier, formerly of Avilla, died in a car-truck accident Saturday two miles east of Ligonier on U. S. 6. Manager of the Hotel Gill, Ligonier, the past 15 months, he had driven to Brimfield Saturday afternoon and was en route home when his car skidded on the ice and snow-covered road as he rounded a curve. A native of Noble County, he was born February 23, 1920, in Green Twp to the late Forrest L. Owen and Mrs. Verna Owen. He was married to Mary A. Coy August 31, 1961. Surviving beside his wife and mother are three sons and two daughters by a previous marriage, all living at Ashley. The children include Roy Allen, Harold J. and J. R. Owen, along with Margaret Kay and Vickie Lynn Owen. Owen Howard, who was taken to the Garrett Hospital Monday after having fractured his neck in a fall down the stairway in the home of his sister, Mrs. Emanuel Diffendarfer of Sand Lake, died Tuesday as a result of the accident. Owen Lucinda (Anglemyer) was born in Columbiana County, O., Oct. 13, 1847 and died in Kendallville Aug. 12, aged 59 years 9 months and 30 days. While a girl she moved with her parents to Indiana, settling in Swan Twp where she married A. Owen Sept. 5, 1872. They started to housekeeping in Green Twp. They had 5 sons and 4 daughters, 2 of the daughters preceding her in death. In 1894 they moved to Ohio, where they lived 6 years, returning to Green Twp in 1900. Owen Millard Fillmore, 81, hotel proprietor 35 years, agent for the GR&I Railroad nearly half a century and an outstanding authority on local and Indiana history as well as a collector of antiques, died last Thursday afternoon at his home in Rome City. He organized the second Chautauqua in the United States. He operated the Island Park Hotel 20 years, the Sylvan Lake Hotel, which he owned for 5 years, the Spring Beach Hotel, which he helped construct and personally managed for 2 seasons, and the Lakeside House, better known now as the Owen Restaurant, a business he operated at his death. He had accumulated a valuable collection of antiques, particularly war pieces and rare old books. He had several volumes more than 300 years old and one of his prized possessions was a copy of the famous "Breeches Bible." He was able to trace his family back hundreds of years to a noble family in Great Britain. He was born at Nanticoke Falls, Ontario, July 4, 1851 and was named after the president of the United States. His family brought him to Michigan when he was 6 years old and subsequently he became a citizen of the United States. He married Mary A. Truesdale, who died July 4, 1898. He married Roma Coates in 1903. Surviving are his wife; 3 daughters by his first marriage, Mrs. C. G. Routsong of Wolcottville, Mrs. James Isley of Ashland, Ore., and Miss Vera of St. Petersburg, Fla.; 2 stepsons, Glenn and Boyd Coates of Kalamazoo; a brother, Jesse, of St. Petersburg; a sister, Mrs. Eber Sherwood of Otsego, Mich.; 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Owens Glenna, 86, of Kendallville, died January 1, 2000 in DeKalb Hospital, Auburn. She was born in Knott County, Ky., November 1, 1913 to Mose and Dona (Short) Slone. She married James K. Owens, who died August 29, 1957. She had resided at Laurels of DeKalb Health Care Center since October 1999. She was a homemaker. Owens Janet Elizabeth, 66, died March 29, 2007 at her Churubusco home. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in South Bend and attended Holy Cross School of Nursing in South Bend. She was born May 23, 1940 in Chicago to Frederick G. and Frances (McNamara) Bradley. Owens Joann E, 53, died Monday in St. Joseph Medical Center, Fort Wayne. She made her home at 3302 County Road 41, Waterloo. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Auburn, a member of the Waterloo library board of 8 years, active in the Spinning Spools Quilt Guild in Auburn, the Country Charm Home Demonstration Club of Waterloo, and the Skirts and Shirts Square Dance Club. She was born July 28, 1935 in McClellandtown, Pa. to John and Marie (Gillen) Getsie. Her father preceded her in death. On July 10, 1955 she married Larry D. Owens in Masontown, Pa. Surviving are her mother in Masontown, Pa.; her husband; 2 sons, Barry Allen of Indianapolis and Gregory Eugene of Kendallville; 2 daughters, Mrs. Gene (Barbara) Clifford of Auburn, and Mrs. Norman (Amy) Hart of Waterloo; 2 brothers, John of Southington, Pa., and Andrew of Fort Wayne; and one sister, Linda Getsie of Masontown, Pa. Owens John, a former resident of Noble County who has lived at Cromwell at one time, had been living in Coffeyville, Kansas and had separated from his wife. On April 24 he went to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Baker, with whom his wife was living, and tried to persuade her to live with him. A quarrel followed and Owens shot and killed his wife and started to leave the premises. He then stopped and reloaded his revolver, returned to the body of his wife and fired a shot into his own head, but this not proving immediately effective, he laid his head on his wife’s body, placed the revolver to his ear and fired again. He had worked at Double Tree RV in Howe for 4 years and was a member of Vineyard Christian Fellowship in Rome City. He was born Sept. 16, 1968 in LaGrange to Alden and Reva (Boggs) Owens. Owens Thomas A, 29, R. 3, Angola, was fatally injured when he lost control of his Kenworth semi tractor after striking a deer on Ind. 120 east of Orland. He died in St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was born July 4, 1949 in Kendallville, the son of Wallace Taylor and Mary (Sheeks) Owens Jr. He had lived in the Kendallville area most of his life before relocating in the Angola area 4 years ago where he had worked as a self-employed truck driver. He and Dorothy Pilliod were married Feb. 11, 1978 in Angola. A veteran of the U.S. Marines, he was a member of the American Legion Post 31, VFW and Disabled Veterans Association, Angola, and a member of the Lake Gage Congregational Church. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Barbara Hose, Kendallville, Mrs. Mary Todd, South Milford; and two brothers, Wallace Taylor III and Douglas W., both of Fort Wayne. Owens Virginia L, 90, died July 19, 2003 at Shepherd of the Hill. On June 12, 1913 in Kendallville she was born to Laurel and Berniece (Kline) Easterday. She was retired from McCray Hospital dietary department after 18 years and was a member of New Hope Christian Church, Waterloo. Surviving are 2 brothers, James and Robert Easterday of Kendallville; 2 sisters, Mae Hubartt of Warren, Ind., and Frances Gillespie of Kendallville; 2 granddaughters, Natalie Gutierrez Heron and Trina Amburgey; 3 grandsons, John Fracaro, Dwight Miller and Stephen Brady; and 8 great-grandchildren. Owsley Jearl, 51, of Ligonier, died Wednesday at his residence. He was born July 11, 1934 in Vest, Ky., the son of Benton and Pocahontas (Gayhart) Owsley. In Kendallville on Aug. 6, 1955 he married Barbara Kline. He had moved to Wawaka in 1977 from Lima, Ohio, and had lived in Ligonier the past three weeks. He was a former employee of Mahoney Foundry in Kendallville. Surviving are his father in Prestonsburg, Ky.; his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Weldon (Patricia) Lockhart of Syracuse; 3 sons, Jerry and William of Rome City, and Franklin of Ligonier; 2 sisters, Mrs. Akrow (Joy) Owsley of Lima, Ohio, and Georgia Collins of Ligonier; a half-sister, Mrs. Leo (Goldie) Hurst of Borden; and 4 grandchildren.
