Oakerson Barbara L, "Boots", 70, died Feb. 3, 2001 in Allen
County. Born in Fort Wayne, she was a purchasing agent in materials
management at Parkview Hospital, retiring in 1990. Her husband, Calvin A.,
also died Saturday. Surviving are 2 daughters, Becky Noll of Fort Wayne
and Judy Ervin of Leo-Cedarville; 6 grandchildren and 4
great-grandchildren. Services Wednesday at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine

Oakerson Calvin A, 72, died Feb. 3, 2001 at Parkview Hospital in Fort
Wayne. Born in Marion, he was director of plant operations at Parkview
Hospital, retiring in 1990. He was a WW II Navy veteran. His wife,
Barbara, died Saturday. Surviving are 2 daughters, Becky Noll of Fort
Wayne and Judy Ervin of Leo-Cedarville; 6 grandchildren and 4
great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mary Benham and Lilly Cole of Fla.; and 3
brothers, Ed, James and Oakley of Marion. Services Wednesday at D.O.

Oakes Andrew J, 91, died Wednesday in Sacred Heart home in Avilla.
He was born in Swan Twp, Noble County, on October 26, 1899, the son of John and
Josephine (Wesolek) Oakes. He was a farmer in Swan Twp, retiring in
1965. His wife, the former Margaret Kostielney, died in 1960.
Surviving are 2 grandchildren, Roger Oakes of LaOtto and Daniel Oakes of Lehigh
Acres, Fla.; a sister, Clara Bianski of Mishawaka; and 2
great-grandchildren. A son, Richard J., and a daughter, Helen Marie,
preceded him in death. Funeral mass Saturday in Immaculate Conception

Oakes Glenna N,
81, of Swan Township, Noble County, died Dec. 22, 2013, at Parkview Regional
Medical Center in Fort Wayne. She was born in Garrett on March 29, 1932, a daughter of Harold H. and Elva M.
(Ellis) Timmerman, and graduated from Huntertown High School. She was married to
Richard J. Oakes and spent all of her adult life in Swan Township. She was a member of the
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ege. Mr. Oakes preceded her in death on
July 19, 1984. The surviving relatives include her
two sons Roger (Lisa) Oakes of LaOtto and Daniel Oakes of Kissimmee, Fla.; her
brother Don E. Timmerman of Churubusco; 2 grandsons; and numerous
great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and
husband she was preceded in death by 2 sisters Lavon Irene Bernardin in 1958
and Helen June Hefley in 2001. Mass of Christian. Burial will be Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ege. Burial, Ege Catholic

Oakes Hilda C, 78, Churubusco, died Sept. 11 in Sacred Heart
Home. She was born June 7, 1897 in Avilla to Ferdinand and Emma (Aman) Fischer.
She married Eugene Couture on July 29, 1927, and they lived on a farm in Noble
County. He died in 1958. In November 1961, she married Andrew Oakes and the
couple moved to their present home in Churubusco. Survivors include her husband;
a son, Eugene Couture, R. 1, Pleasant Lake; three daughters, Mrs. Ross
(Patricia) Ehle, New Haven, Mrs. L. B. (Margaret) Moothart, State Center, Iowa,
and Mrs. Bernard (Catherine) Wappes, R. 7, Columbia City; 27 grandchildren; two
step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Luella Richter,
Berwyn, Ill.; A stepson, Richard Oakes, five brothers and one sister preceded
her in death. She was an apprentice at Vogeding Tailor Shop in Garrett at
the age of 15. She worked for Kraft & Hienrick’s Tailoring for 40 years as
a tailor, retiring in 1981. She was the organist for Churubusco and Ege Catholic
churches for 53 years. She was a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church and
its Rosary Sodality. A funeral mass will be said Saturday in the church. Burial,

Oakes Richard J, 53, R. 1, LaOtto, died Thursday at Parkview Hospital. A
farmer and school bus driver for East Noble School Corporation, he also served
as a Noble County councilman. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in
Garrett. He was born March 21, 1931 in Noble County, the son of Andrew and
Margaret (Kostielney) Oakes. He married Glenna Timmerman June 6, 1953. Surviving
are his father and his wife; two sons, Roger of La Belle, Fla., and
Daniel of R. 1, LaOtto; and two grandchildren. Services Monday at
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ege, of which he was a member. Burial,

Ober Clara, 74, of LaOtto, died Tuesday at the home of her son
Ralph, northeast of LaOtto. Survivors, other than the son, Ralph, are a
daughter, Mrs. R. F. Willis of Fort Wayne; five grandchildren; and one brother,
Henry Rhodes, near Avilla. Services at the Zimmerman Funeral Home

Ober Manford J “Jerry” Jr., 80, of Kendallville died January 19, 2009 in St. Joe Hospital, Fort Wayne.
A retired farmer, he was a U.S. Army veteran. He was born January 23, 1928, in Garrett, Indiana, to Manford and Valera
“Belle” (Lung) Ober. On June 3, 1949, in Columbia City he married Margaret
Marker. Surviving are his wife; a son, Michael Ober of Kendallville; five grandchildren, Tara Wolf, Amy Wenning, Nicole, Jessica and
Jeremy Ober; 7 great-grandchildren, Amber and Ashley Goodwin,
Brandon Wolf, Kayla Wenning, Dequan and Janyah Ober and Thomas Michael Healy;
a sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and John Wittkamper of Knightstown,
Indiana; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Robert Ober, Harold Lee and
Roberta Ober, and Larry and Judy Ober, all of Albion. He was preceded in death by
a son, Dennis. Funeral Jan. 24 at Young Family Funeral Home. Burial,

Ober Ralph T, 79, rural LaOtto, died Jan. 31 in DeKalb Hospital. He was
born June 9, 1909 in DeKalb County, the son of Perry and Clara (Rhodes)
Ober. He married Ruby Hannafius Aug. 23, 1952 in Angola. He was a farmer and had
worked as a welder at Fruehauf in Fort Wayne, retiring in 1973. He was a member
of Garrett Eagles Lodge. Surviving are his wife; one son, Ralph of Heartland,
Mich.; two stepsons, William LaCross of LaOtto, and Robert LaCross of Utica,
Mich.; one foster son, Clifford Weikel of Garrett,; one stepdaughter, Barbara
Veltre of Hazel Park, Mich.; one sister, Goldie Gibsons of Brookings, Ore.;
three grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Services Friday in

Ober Robert Carlton, 82, of Albion, died Aug. 6, 2009 at Parkview Noble
Hospital. He was born in Garrett on Feb. 9, 1927, the son of Manford and
Valera Belle (Lung) Ober. He worked for Forker Excavating, retiring after
32 years of service. He also worked for the Noble County Highway
Dept. On Dec. 11, 1954 he married Virginia Scheurich. She died Dec.
11, 2007. Surviving are a daughter, Melinda Ober of Albion; 2
grandchildren, Melissa (Shawn) Jordan and Lance Conrad; 2 brothers and
sisters-in-law, Harold and Roberta and Larry and Judy Ober of Albion; a sister
and brother-in-law, Kathleen and John Wittkamper of Knightstown. Also
preceding him in death were a daughter, Leisa Ober; a grandson, Chad

Ober Ruby A, 90, of rural LaOtto, died January 27, 2004 at Hickory Creek
of Kendallville. She was born January 19, 1914 in Alma, Mich. to David and
Lillian (Crum) Hannafius. She married Ralph T. Ober on August 23, 1952 in
Angola. He died January 31, 1989. Surviving are a daughter, Barbara
LaCross of LaOtto; 2 daughters-in-law, Kathryn and Diana LaCross; a sister,
Filena McKee of Alma, Mich.; a granddaughter, Eileen Marks; 3 great-grandchildren; and 4
great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 sons, William
and Robert LaCross; a stepson, Ralph Ober Jr., and a brother, William Hannafius. A homemaker, she had lived on her husband's family farm since

Ober Sherman M, 80, of rural Corunna, died March 30, 1996 in DeKalb
Hospital. He was born June 28, 1915 in Corunna to James and Minnie (Sipe) Ober.
On Sept. 23, 1937 he married Margaret P. Gael in Avilla. He is survived by his
wife in Corunna; 2 sons, John K. of Auburn and Gary M. of Corunna; a sister,
Chloe Crossley of Angola; a brother, Ralph of Auburn; and 2 grandchildren. He
was employed as an auto mechanic, retiring in 1980 from Quist Motors of
Kendallville. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kendallville.

Ober Valera B, 78, of R. 1, Albion, died Tuesday (d.
2-23-1982) at the Kendallville Lutheran Home. Born Jan. 9, 1904 in Garrett,
she was the daughter of Alonzo and Elizabeth (Zern) Lung. She married Manford J.
Ober, who died Feb. 12, 1970, on May 8, 1926 in DeKalb County. She moved from
DeKalb County to Albion in 1937. She was a retired school teacher and a member
of Trinity United Methodist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Kathy Wittkamper
of Knightstown; 4 sons, Robert, Lee and Larry of Albion, and Jerry of
Kendallville; a brother, Richard Lung of Montpelier, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and
5 great-grandchildren. Services Thursday at Trinity United Methodist

Ober Virginia Lee, 74, of Albion, died Dec. 11, 2007 at Parkview Hospital
in Fort Wayne. She was a 1951 graduate of Albion High School. She
was born July 27, 1933 in Albion to Dennis and Velma (Weber) Scheurich.
She married Robert Ober on Dec. 11, 1954 at the E.U.B. Church in Albion.
Surviving are her husband; a daughter and son-in-law, Melinda and Jack Conrad of
Albion; 2 grandchildren, Melissa Smith and Lance Conrad; a brother, Don
Scheurich of Kendallville; brothers-in-law, Jerry and Margaret Ober of
Kendallville, Lee and Roberta Ober of Albion, and Larry and Judy Ober of Albion;
and a sister-in-law, Kathy and John Wittkamper of Knightstown. She
was preceded in death by a daughter, Leisa Ober; a grandson, Chad Conrad; and a

Oberlin Evelyn G, 56, Auburn, died Thursday in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. She was a study hall supervisor at
Eastside Schools in Butler. He married Willard Oberlin in 1947. Surviving are
her husband; 3 children, Mrs. Jeffery (Marsha) McCann, Hamilton, Mark, Columbus,
Ohio, and Mike at home; a brother, Larry, Auburn. She was born in Kendallville

Oberlin Margaret E, 92, Albion, died Tuesday (d.4-26-1977) at the Kendallville Nursing Home. She was born Sept. 27, 1884 to
Edward and Kathy (Wisner) McCarney in Williams County, Ohio. Her husband, Guy,
preceded her in death. She lived in Albion 22 years and was a member of the
Rebekah Lodge. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Donovan, Albion; 5
grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Services will be Thursday at Asbury

Oberlin Rachael, 83, a former resident of this city, died in the Lutheran
Hospital of senility. She resided in Avilla for the past 10 months.
She was born and reared in Clinton, Pa., where she spent the greater part of her
life. She was a member of the Nazarene Church. Surviving are 3 children by a
former marriage, John L. Fike, Oakdale, Pa., William S. Fike, Bluffton, Ind.,
and Mrs. Mary L. Moore of this city; 2 brothers, Loren Springer, this city, and
William Springer of Los Angeles; and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Newell of Scott

Oberlin Ramona Jo, 15, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Reed, Ligonier, died Thursday in Elkhart Hospital. She was born Nov. 25, 1955 in Auburn
and was an 8th grade student at West Noble Elementary School.
Surviving are her parents; one brother, Larry; and 3 sisters, Shawn, Dawnice and

Obert Lisette, 95, of Woodburn, died Tuesday in the Lutheran
Home in Fort Wayne. She was the grandmother of Mrs. Ralph (Wilma) Housholder of
R. 2, Avilla. Born in Germany, she came to the United States in 1892 and to
Woodburn in 1908, where she lived with her daughter, Mrs. Herbert Nahrwold. She
was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Woodburn. Also surviving are
another daughter, Mrs. Lula Hoeppner of Huntertown; nine other grandchildren; 28
great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Services
Thursday at Christ Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery. ~

OBrian Emmett T, resident of the Skinner Lake community, having resided
there since 1946, died Jan. 29, 1953 at McCray Hospital. He was well-known as an
authority and small dealer in antiques. He was a native of Allen County and had
been a resident of Fort Wayne for over 40 years, operating an antique
establishment on Wells St. Among the survivors are the widow, Barbara. Funeral in Fort Wayne. + 1-?-1953
OBrian Wilma E, 68, R. 1, Wolcottville,
died Sunday at her residence. She formerly worked at Monsanto in Ligonier and
owned the O’Brian Tavern in Rome City. She was born August 22, 1914 in
LaGrange County, the daughter of John and Maimie (Geiver) McConnell. She married
Harry C. OBrian September 26, 1936 in Auburn. He died May 10, 1971. Surviving
are a daughter, Mrs. John (Barbara) McCoy, Wolcottville; three sons, Harry,
Phoenix, Ariz., Richard and Brian, both Fort Wayne; two sisters, Mildred Resler,
Tucson, and Harriet Beekman, Wolcottville; a brother Delos, Waterloo; five

OBrien Elizabeth J, 90, of Fort Wayne, died June 29, 2004 at St. Anne
Home in Fort Wayne. She was a 6th grade teacher at Queen of Angels School
in Fort Wayne for 15 years. She was born Jan. 2, 1914 in Evanston, Ill. to
Michael and Susan (Didier) Faber. She was a graduate of St. Theresa
College, Winona, Minn. She married Charles P. OBrien Jan. 3, 1943 in
Louisville, Ky. He was injured in combat in Italy and died while she was
pregnant with their second child. Surviving are 2 sons, Daniel of
Zanesville and Charles of Divide, Colo.; a brother, Msgr. William Faber of Fort
Wayne and a sister, Sister Pierre Faber of Chicago; 5 grandchildren and 5
great-grandchildren. Also preceding her in death were 2 brothers, Peter
and Nicholas Faber; and 2 sisters, Regina Hazel and Veronica Kontny.

OBrien James Richard, 71, of Burr Oak, Mich., and formerly of Ligonier,
died Saturday in the Sturgis, Mich. hospital of a heart attack. He was
born Sept. 9, 1911 in Madison County to William and Margaret (French) OBrien. He
married Isabell Font April 27, 1940 in Charlotte, Mich. She died in 1968. He was
a retired flour miller and member of the Nazarene Church and Moose Lodge.
Surviving are two daughters, Jacqueline Hoeff of Saline, Mich., Sylvia Hall of
Lansing, Mich.; 6 sons, Thomas A. of Saline, Kenneth and Kyle of Lansing, Thomas
B. of Ligonier, Spec. 4 Kit of Fort Benning, Ga., and Kevin of Iona, Mich.; 3
stepdaughters, Capitola Brazee of Jacksonville, Fla., Iris Forest of Fla., and
Gloria Nichols of Colorado; 21 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

OBrien Linda Sue, 58, died July 27, 2003 at her home. She was deputy
clerk treasurer for the City of Warsaw. She was a member of Redeemer
Lutheran Church, Elks and American Legion Auxiliary in Warsaw. She was
born Sept. 22, 1944 in Kendallville to Edward and Bertha Kurtz and was a 1962
graduate of Kendallville High School. Surviving are a daughter and
son-in-law, Jennifer and Brooks Johnson of Nappanee; and a sister, Ann Frain of
Kendallville. Graveside services Tuesday at Oakwood Cemetery,

Ocker J D, 73, resident and grocer in this city since 1932, died Jan. 3
from heart disease. He was a member of the First Evangelical Church. Surviving besides the widow is a sister, Mrs. A. D.

OConnell William, 72, 316 S. Oak St., died Saturday in
Kendallville Nursing Home. He was born Nov. 29, 1909 in Ill. to Martin J. and
Mary (Stack) OConnell. He was in the advertising business a number of years and
was a member of American Legion Post 86, Kendallville. He is survived by one
sister, Alice J., Evanston, Ill.; and one brother, Arthur, Conneaut, Ohio.

OConnor Edward, 65, died last evening at his home on W. Third St.,
Ligonier. Surviving are the widow and 2 daughters, Mrs. Glenn Mitzner of
Chicago and Mrs. Ralph Dygert of Elkhart; and 3 grandchildren. He was a
printer in northern Indiana and served in the Spanish American War. * 1938
OConnor Maurice, 59, Rome City cottager, died in Lakeside Hospital,
Kendallville, Dec. 11 from exposure superinduced by "acute alcoholism"
after lying in his cottage at Rome City several hours in near zero temperature.
It was believed he had become intoxicated and lapsed into a coma, allowing the
fire in his cottage to go out. There are no known relatives but those who knew
him believe he had relatives in Indianapolis. + 12-?-1934
OConnor Nancy E died May 19, 2007 at Parkview Noble Hospital. She
was born June 23, 1946 in Edinburgh to Robert and Maggie (Ziegler) Smock.
She married Vincent OConnor in 1966 in Indianapolis. She had been employed
at Koon's Market in Avilla. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church
in Avilla. Surviving are a son, Rod of Indianapolis; and a daughter, Dawn
of Garrett. She was preceded in death by a brother, Danny Smock.

ODell Cecile, 92, Kendallville resident, died at Avilla Sacred Heart Home today. She was born in Kendallville March 31, 1890 to Samuel and
Sarah (Friedline) Bloomfield. On July 4, 1912 in Albion she married William O.
ODell, who died Feb. 13, 1966. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.
Surviving are 4 daughters, Donnabelle Brickley, Beverly Beaty and Mrs. Jack
(Marilyn) Slater of Kendallville, and Mrs. Ernie (Caroline) Harmeyer of Fort
Wayne; a son, William T. of LaGrange; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren;
and 5 great-great-grandchildren. A son, 3 brothers, and a sister preceded her in

Odem Daniel A "Jake" (b. 10-7-1956 - d. 2-28-1987) of
Albion was killed in a head-on two-car collision which took place last Saturday on U. S. 6 south of New Paris in Elkhart County. The westbound vehicle,
whose driver was also killed, crossed the centerline and stuck his eastbound
1983 Mercury Cougar, causing it to turn over on its top. He was born in Fort
Wayne to Oscar and Rosetta Bumpus Odem. June 23, 1979 in Albion he married Linda
Halsey. He moved to Albion from Fort Wayne 20 years ago and was employed by
Walker’s Mfg. in Ligonier Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Daniele R at
home; a son, Jacob W at home; 2 stepdaughters, Jody and Jamie Keister at home; 6
sisters, Karen Haviland, Leota Rhodes, Sally Odem, Velma Rinehart and
Bonnie Odem of Albion, and Susan Ley of Fort Wayne; 3 brothers, Michael of St.
Ignace, Mich., George of Albion, and Oscar of Fort Wayne; 2 stepsisters,

his home. Born July 19, 1950 in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Oscar and Rosetta
Odem. He came to Albion 6 ½ years ago from Fort Wayne and was employed at
Plastimatic, Albion. Surviving are his mother; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Otto
Bumpus, Payne, Ohio; several brothers and sisters, Karen Haviland, Spencerville,

5-15-1984) at McCray Hospital. Born Sept. 21, 1925 in Center Twp, Wood
County, Ohio, to Otto and Louise (Fliensche) Bumpus, she married Oscar Odem on
Aug. 9, 1948 in Fort Wayne. He died in 1962. She was employed at Monsanto Corp.,
Ligonier, and was a member of Eagles Auxiliary, Albion Survivors include her
mother of Oakwood, Ohio; 6 daughters, Karen Haviland, Leota Rhodes and Sally,

the daughter of Everett and Inez (Cleland) Marsh. She married Leslie Odier. She
had lived in Payne the past four years, moving from New Haven. She was employed
at Lake End Sales, Fort Wayne. Survivors include her parents in Albion; her
husband; two sons, Danny 12, and Michael 10, both at home; one sister, Mrs.
Sally Bender, R. 1, Wawaka, and 2 brothers, John, R. 1, Kimmell, and Jack,

Odom George Leo, 66, of Ligonier, died April 24, 2004 at Goshen General
Hospital. He was born July 4, 1937 in McGurk, Mo. to George and Sylvia
Odom. He married Joanne Taylor on June 22, 1957 in Summersville, Mo.
He worked at Greenlee Texron in Genoa, Ill. and was a member of First Baptist
Church in Topeka. Surviving are his wife; a daughter and son-in-law,
Sandra and Harley Wingard of Benton; a son and daughter-in-law, Leo and Karen
Odom of DeKalb, Ill.; 3 sisters and 2 brothers-in-law, Edith Johnson of Walla

Oelfke Alfred, 51, Avilla, died at his home Wednesday. He
was born Feb. 6, 1912, at Napoleon, Ohio, and came to Avilla from Fort Wayne
eight years ago. He was employed at General Electric, Fort Wayne. Survivors
include his wife, Dorothy, to whom he was married Nov. 13, 1955; his children,
Brenda, Linda, Glenda and Gregory, at home; a daughter, Mrs. William Weeks,
Albion; his mother, Mrs. Dora Oelfke; a brother, Raymond, Fort Wayne; and a
sister, Mrs. Charlie Kramer, Ingram, Texas. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant

Oelfke Dora A, 80, of Fort Wayne, died Jan. 4 at her residence. A native of Napoleon, Ohio, she moved to Fort Wayne

Oelfke Dorothy E, 84, of Kendallville and formerly of Avilla, died
January 11, 2007 at Kendallville Manor Nursing Home. A lifetime area
resident, she was a graduate of Avilla High School. A homemaker, she was
a member of Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid Society. She
was born January 9, 1923 in Noble County to Franklin Lloyd and Hazel (Eckels) Myers.
She married Alfred F. Oelfke in Angola. He died February, 6, 1963.
Surviving are 3 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Brenda and Bruce Anglin and Glenda
and Gary Englehart of Kendallville, Linda Smolinske of Avilla; a son and
daughter-in-law, Greg and Karol Oelfke of Kendallville; 2 brothers and 3
sisters-in-law, Donald and Celia Myers and Irene Myers of Kendallville, and Herb
and Barb Myers of Avilla; 11 grandchildren, Tracie Fero, Kristie Bryan,
Zak and Shayna Anglin, Joline and Carmen Digirolamo, Matthew and Travis Smolinske,
Tiffany Huff, Sarah Appleton and Adam Kurtz; and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Merle on December 24, 2006, and Marion

Oemke Dora was found dead in bed this morning at her
residence on N. Railroad St. Her son, Fred, who was called here last week by the
death of his father, Henry, left the residence of his home in Cleveland at one o’clock
this morning. His mother was up and saw him depart. She was in her usual health
to all appearances at that time. A daughter occupied the same bed with her and
arose without noticing that she was dead. Another daughter went to the bed to
awaken her mother and found her dead, though still warm. She was perhaps about
55 to 60 years of age and leaves one son and three daughters. Her husband was

Oemke Hannah Dora Sophia was born April 10, 1865 in Kendallville. In
1884 she, with her mother became members of the Methodist Episcopal Church
(German). The loss of a sister the 7th of August, 1890, and that of
the father the 26th of Oct. of the same year, and finding the mother
dead in bed on the morning of Oct. 29 bore heavy upon her. Since then she has
made her home with her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rath. On
the 19th of Sept. 1892, she died at age 27 years, 5

Oesch Bessie O died September 3, 1991 in Kenney Health Care Center in
Ligonier. She was born in Wolf Lake October 8, 1889, the daughter of
Abraham and Antoinette (Miller) Bender. She married Daniel Oesh in Topeka
on March 15, 1913. He died November 28, 1953. She was a country
school teacher, handset type at the Topeka Journal and was owner with her
husband of the Topeka Roller Mill. She was a 1908 graduate of Topeka High
School and attended Goshen College. She was a member of Topeka Mennonite
Church and was the town historian and genealogist. Surviving are a
niece. A sister, Neva Fulwider; and 2 brothers, Ford and Forest Bender,

Oesch Billie E, 69, died in Leesburg Regional Medical Center in Leesburg,
Fla. He was born in Topeka June 5, 1929 to William and Goldie (Garber)
Oesch. He married Olive Krisher. He retired after 30 years as a
maintenance worker at Ross Laboratories in Sturgis, Mich. He was a U. S.
Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the Reorganized Church
Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Tavares, Fla. Surviving are his wife;
2 daughters, Rebecca Edsall of Kings Mountain, N.C., and Renee Spires of
Wilmington, Ohio; a son, Wade of Kendallville; 3 sisters, Joyce Tierney of
Logansport, Lavern Hartzler of Twelve Mile, and Gloria Mynhier of Wolcottville;
a brother, Stanley of Topeka; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ramona Oesch in August 1974; 2 sons,
Wayne in November 1994 and William in 1996; and a grandson, Douglas Oesch in

Monday. He was born in LaGrange on January 22, 1958 to Billie E. and Olive
Marie (Krisher) Oesh. On August 31, 1979 in Terre Haute he married Gail L.
Martin. A 1976 graduate of Lakeland High School, he was employed by
Skyline Mobile Homes in Bristol and as a part-time professional slight-of-hand
magician. He was a member of the Reorganized Latter-day Saints.
Surviving are his wife; his parents; a daughter, Samantha, 9; 2 stepchildren; 2
sisters, Rebecca Edsall of Kings Mountain, N.C., and Renee Spires of Xenia,
Ohio; 2 brothers, William and Wade of Kendallville; and 7 grandchildren. A

Oesch William Eugene "Bill", 40, of Kendallville, died March 18 in the emergency room of McCray Hospital. He
was born in Dayton, Ohio on Feb. 25, 1956 to Billie E. and Olive Marie (Krisher)
Oesch. On March 9, 1985 he married Joan "Joni" Croy. He had lived in
Kendallville 4 years, moving from Wolcottville. He was owner of Southern Oaks
Trailer Park in Wolcottville and was also a dealer for Redman Homes in
Wolcottville. He was a member of Harvest Community Church. Surviving are his
wife; 2 daughters, Krista Oesch of LaGrange and Summer LaCross of Kendallville;
2 sons, Steven Oesch and Chad LaCross of Kendallville; 2 sisters, Rebecca Edsall
of Kings Mountain, N.C., and Renee Spires of Xenia, Ohio; and a brother, Wade of
Kendallville. He was preceded in death by a son, Douglas in 1987; a sister,

Oesterwind Earl G, 81, of Kendallville, died July 5, 2005 at DeKalb
Memorial Hospital. He was retired from General Motors as a gear lab
inspector and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Avilla. He was
a U.S. Army veteran of WW II. He was born Oct. 16, 1923 in Milwaukee,
Wis., to Henry and Lillian (Johnson) Oesterwind. He and his wife, Betty,
were married May 25, 1946 in Detroit, Mich. Surviving are his wife; 2
daughters and sons-in-law, Anna and Dave Kemerly of Avilla and Mary and Al
Taylor of Michigan; a son, Dave Pauch; an ex-son-in-law, Patrick McCarthy of Mich.;
5 grandchildren, Linda and Nicole Ramsey, Chris and Sean McCarthy and David Kemerly Jr.; and
a great-grandchild, Justin Ramsey. He was preceded in death by a brother,
Hank. Services July 15 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial later

Offord Donald A, 72, died May 24, 2003 at Provena Sacred Heart Home,
Avilla. He served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant in the Korean
Conflict. He was born November 29, 1930 in Fort Wayne to Basil and Faye
Etta (Truelove) Offord. On May 24, 1956 at Hopewell he married Emma Jean
Huff. She died December 17, 1997. Two brothers, Ralph Offord and
James Decker, and a sister, Dorothy Sloffer, are also deceased. Surviving
are a daughter, Donna Jean of Avilla; a son, Kenneth C. of Columbia City; 2
granddaughters, Veronica M. Gabet of Fort Wayne, and Nicole Gabet of Bluffton; a
sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Ed Hindenlang of Avilla; and a brother,
Ronald B. Offord of Fort Wayne. He was a machine operator for over 30
years at Zollner Piston in Fort Wayne and worked part-time for Avilla Motor
Works. He was past commander of American Legion Post No. 1240.

Manor. She was born Dec. 5, 1921 in Swan Twp to Charles E. and Bessie (Pepple)
Huff. On June 24, 1956 at Hopewell she married Donald A. Offord. Surviving are
her husband a daughter, Donna J., Avilla; a son, Kenneth C., Columbia City; 3
sisters, Catherine Truelove, LaOtto, Wanita Albertson and Myrtle Barrett of
Avilla; and 2 granddaughters, Veronica M. Gabet, Bloomington, and Nicole S.
Gabet, Avilla. She retired from the VA Canteen Service in Fort Wayne in 1984.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Avilla. Services

Offord Ethel - At the stated meeting of Avilla Chapter N. 155, OE S,
Monday evening, the worthy matron, Jean Padgitt, assisted by the conductress and
associate conductress, gave a short memorial service in remembrance of Mrs.
Ethel Offord, a former member, who passed away recently at her home in San
Diego, California. She served as worthy matron of the Avilla chapter in 1916.
Mr. and Mrs. Offord were residents of Avilla many years before moving to

was born in Indiana and lived 58 years near Chula Vista. He was a crane operator
for the Kelco Co. in San Diego. Surviving are his wife, Vera; a daughter,
Shirley Johnson of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, Robert of La Mesa; four
grandchildren; a niece, Joanna Hindenlang, Avilla. Services in Greenwood

Offord Ralph, 76, died Sunday while listening to the
radio in his home in San Diego, Calif. A village blacksmith, he came here from
Kendallville with his family and resided in this community many years before
moving to Calif. in 1926. Surviving are two sons, Wendell and Robert of Chula
Vista, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Crystal Porterfield of Columbus Grove,
Ohio, and Mrs. Lillian Neiderhouser, near San Diego, California; a sister, Emma,
living in Ohio; and a brother, Ray of California. His wife, Ethel, and one son,
Basil, preceded him in death. He was a member of F & AM No. 460 and Avilla
Chapter No. 155 OES and a past patron of the latter. Services will be held

OFlaherty Ann, 83, a pioneer resident of Orange Township died suddenly at her home one
mile north of Brimfield, last Saturday morning. She was taken suddenly ill
with stomach trouble and died before a physician could arrive. She had
lived for many years in Orange Township. She is survived by two sons.
Funeral was held at the Catholic church in Kendallville at Monday.

Brimfield Wednesday. He was a member of the Catholic
Church and a staunch Republican. He leaves a widow, 2 sons and one daughter. ^

Ogden Aaron was born in Newark, N.J. Sept. 23, 1802; moved with his parents to Licking
County, Ohio in 1816 where he lived until his settlement in Indiana when he
first settled in Washington Twp. From there he went to Ligonier where the rest of his life was passed.
At the time he moved to Ligonier there was but one frame house; the few
others being log cabins. He died Jan. 6, 1891, aged 88 years 3 months and 14 days.

Ogg Luther M, 60, of Butler Center south of Garrett, died Monday in the Garrett Hospital from a cerebral hemorrhage. He was superintendent
of the workshop at the Wee Haven School in Garrett. He had attended an annual
meeting Thursday night of the DeKalb County Association of retarded school
children and had given a report. It is believed he left the meeting about 9:30
p.m. and went over to the shop, where he was found about 10 p.m. by Ralph Best
and Robert Heller, when they noticed the lights still on in the shop. He was
taken to the hospital immediately. He was born March 29, 1907 in Illinois and
had been a resident of this area for some 40 years. His parents were the late
James and Edna Ogg. He was married at Columbia City on July 16, 1932 to Alice D.
Ridenour. Surviving besides the widow are a daughter, Mrs. Eugene Vogely of R.
1, South Whitley; three sons, Monte D. of Avilla, James W. of Fort Wayne and
Rex. A of Garrett; 14 grandchildren; a brother, Ralph of Fort Wayne; and two
sisters, Mrs. Gene Finkhouse and Mrs. Ada Dias of Miami, Fla. Services will be
held today in the Calvary Methodist Church, Avilla. Burial, Avilla Cemetery. He
was a member of the Calvary Methodist Church and was a charter member and the

Ogg Monte D, 38, 404 Van Scoyoc St., died Sunday in Garrett
Hospital. He was born June 7, 1930 in Fort Wayne, the son of Mrs. Alice Ogg and
the late Luther Ogg, who died last Feb. 19. He had resided in Avilla 14 years.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of Calvary United Methodist
Church in Avilla, Avilla American Legion, and was employed as a personnel clerk
at the Stanscrew Distribution Center in Garrett. On March 3, 1950, he was
married at Avilla to Ann VanGorder, who survives. Surviving besides the wife and
mother are two daughters, Pattie 16 and Margaret 8; and three sons, Stephen 12,
Scott 10, and John 5, all at home; two brothers, Rex, 610 S. Walsh St., Garrett,
and William, Fort Wayne; and one sister, Mrs. Eugene Vogely of South Whitley.

Ogieda Sister, 70, of the most Precious Blood, Mother Superior at Kneipp
Sanitarium in Rome City, died Wednesday of heart disease. She was a
native of St. Louis and had served 30 years at the sanitarium. She was also
Mother General at the Mother House in Dayton, Ohio, for 12 years, which she left
to return to Rome City about 1 year ago. Funeral at the Mother House in

Ogle Joseph died at his residence in Jefferson Twp Aug. 20, aged 81 years and 16 days. He was born in Morris Twp, Adams
County, Ohio, Aug. 4, 1806, in which locality his parents settled previous to
Ohio’s admission into the Union. June 13, 1833 he married Ruthanna Wright. In
Oct. 1845 they removed to Jefferson Twp and erected their little log cabin home
in the then wild and dense forest. It is said that at that time his wealth
consisted of a single dollar. There were 8 children in the family, 2 of whom
preceded him in death. The surviving children are Mary, wife of Andrew
Gunnett of Kendallville, Sarah I., wife of G. I. Walters at Ripley, William E.
and Albert H. of Kendallville, Lucina J., wife of S. S. Axtell at Nassau, Iowa;
and L. R., living at the homestead. In his earlier days he was counted a great
hunter; and many a deer, turkey or squirrel, killed by his trusty rifle, found
its way into the larders of his neighbors who were not so successful in securing

Chambersburg Hospital, Monday. The Kendallville native was born
Sept. 4, 1909 to William and Gertrude (Livingston) Shippy. On March 27, 1932 in
Kendallville she married Ralph W. Ohls, who died Dec.1, 1974. She had lived in
Kendallville and Perrysburg, Ohio prior to moving to Chambersburg 20 years ago.
She had been editor of Letter Kenny Army Depot. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs.
Ken (Trudy) Gachol of Chambersburg; a son, William of Perrysburg; and 3

She was born June 20, 1924 in Ligonier to Earl and Pearl (Lynn) Cook. In
1942 she married Mose Guthrie who died in 1976. On Feb. 25, 1978 in South
Milford she married James Ohlwine. Surviving are her husband in Albion; 5
daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Jess Kilburn, Penny and David Dickey and
Phyllis and Larry McGahen of Kendallville, Mary and Clyde Rollins of Churubusco
and Linda and Richard Ard of St. Joseph, Ill.; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Ed
and Ruth Guthrie and Greg and Judy Guthrie of Kendallville; a brother, John Cook
of Spokane; 3 sisters, Maxine Prentice of Cromwell, Gladys Harrison of Dade
City, Fla., and Rosie Dotson of Ligonier; 28 grandchildren; several

Ohlwine Daniel was born Feb. 5, 1810 and died Dec. 30, 1894 at his home
in Sparta Twp, aged 84 years, 10 months and 15 days. He was the
fourth of 12 children in the family of Charles and Elizabeth (Schrader) Ohlwine
of the state of Md. He was born in Warren County, Ohio, Feb. 14, 1810; moved
with his parents to Germantown, Montgomery County at the age of 3 years, and
when 10 years old to Greene County, Ohio. His father was a tanner by trade, but
Daniel’s youth was spent in chopping, grubbing and splitting rails. He gained
an average education. On Feb. 17, 1831 he was married to Miss Catharine Weade.
In Sept. 1833 he came to Indiana and in the spring of 1835 built a cabin on the
land where he lived and died. In Jan. 1835 he was present and assisted in the
burial of the old Indian chief Flat Belly, with whom he was well-acquainted. The
first term of court in Noble County was held in 1836 on the old Adam Engle farm
near where Ligonier now stands, and he served on the jury. He was fond of
hunting sports and in 1841 traveled on foot through Ind., Ill, Iowa, Mo., and
Kan. In 1844 he purchased 124 acres of Indiana reserve land, the deed for which
was signed by Gov. James Whitcomb. When in his prime he was an expert chopper.
He has cleared in all about 200 acres of land. One child (now Mrs. Elizabeth
Archer) was born to him by his first wife, who died in Oct. 1859. He was then
married to Mrs. Sarah Ballah May 22, 1860. She died in Dec. 1881 and Dec. 28,
1882 he married Mrs. Eve Smith, who is now a widow for the third time in her
life. He was a charter member of the Christian Church at Broadway. In pioneer
days he served as justice of the peace, his cabin was often used as a court
room. In politics he was first a Whig, then an ardent Republican. Funeral at Broadway Church Jan. 1, 1895, and he was buried in the cemetery there. + 12-30-1894

Ohlwine Homer J, 88, of Kendallville died Feb. 13, 2011, at Parkview Noble Hospital.
He was born in Albion on Nov. 15, 1922, to Homer and Amanda (Tucker)
Ohlwine. He served U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Betty
Rogers, in 1942 and she died in 1977. He married Betty Guthrie, in 1978 and she
died in 2001. He was a truck driver for Seagley Brothers in Kendallville and then for Hipskind Asphalt in Fort Wayne
for several years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Rehoboth Missionary Church in Albion,
the Kendallville VFW Post 2749 and the Albion American Legion Post 246.
He served in the Civilian Conservation Corp. and during that time helped
build most of the buildings at Pokagon State Park in Angola.
Survivors include several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and
great-great-grandchildren; four stepchildren; two sisters, Mary Leitch of
Columbia City and Martha Treesh of Kendallville. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Rollins and Winnie Ard;
four sisters; and six brothers. Funeral Feb. 15 at Hite Funeral Home. Burial,

Ohlwine Idris C "Dutch", 93, died April 19, 2000 in Kingston
Care Center in Fort Wayne. He was born May 26, 1906 in Noble County to
Homer S. and Amanda I. "Minnie" (Tucker) Ohlwine. On July 11,
1934 he married Lois Fey. She died December 21, 1976. He was a
former Churubusco businessman. Surviving are 4 daughters and 3
sons-in-law, Esther Sherman of Arcola, Carol and Lee Pontius of Auburn, Jane and
Larry Poinsett of Fort Wayne, and Darlene and Cory Houser of Wolf Lake; 4 sons

Joyce and Bruce and Sue Ohlwine of Churubusco, and Larry Ohlwine of Fort Wayne;
a brother and sister-in-law, James and Betty Ohlwine of Skinner Lake; 4 sisters

Ohlwine John S, an old citizen of Ligonier, died on the 9th in
the 67th year of his age. He was the president of the town board and
had been for many years a member of the Masonic fraternity and the Christian

Home. He was born June 3, 1914 in Noble County to Homer S. and Amanda I.
(Tucker) Ohlwine. He married Marie Bowman on January 29, 1945 in Fort
Wayne. She died in 1981. He worked in general maintenance for the
Winfield Moses family in Fort Wayne and was a WW II Army veteran.
Surviving are a son, Robert of Fort Wayne; 2 brothers, Idris of Churubusco and
James of Albion; 4 sisters, Bessie Hentzell of Kokomo, Virginia Ohlwine of
Indianapolis, Martha Treesh of Kendallville and Mary Leitch of Albion; and 2

Ohlwine Samuel, 87, a pioneer resident of Noble County, died Wednesday
last at his home near Cromwell. He located in Noble County in the 40’s, has
held several public offices here and was the father of J. L. Ohlwine, a northern
Indiana veteran soldier. There are 2 daughters also surviving, Mrs. William

Ohmart Dorothy L, 89, died Oct 14, 2001 at Shepherd of the Hill nursing
home. She worked at Wheel Works in Kendallville for many years and also
worked as a beautician at area beauty shops. She was a member of
Kendallville Eagles Lodge. She was born Jan. 15, 1912 in LaGrange County
to Ezra and Carrie (Merriman) Covert. Her first husband, Ray Godsell, died
in 1969. She married Wilbur Ohmart and he died in 1975. A son,
Donald Godsell, died in 1978; and a brother, George, died in 1995.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Margaret Godsell of
Kendallville; 3 stepchildren; a brother, Russell Stauffer of Port Richey, Fla.;
7 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Hospital. She was born in Columbia City Oct. 18, 1893, to George and Anna (Essig)
Peabody and married Howard S. Ohmart Jan. 23, 1923. He survives. She and her
husband moved to Avilla in 1954. She was a former nurse at Souder’s Hospital,
Auburn, and a former member of the BPW in Auburn. Survivors include the husband;

(Warren) Ohmart. He married Flossie Peabody Jan. 23, 1923. She died Feb. 11,

Wayne. She was born March 29, 1923 in DeKalb County, the daughter of Edward and
Flossie (Thomas) Sommers. She married Wilbert G. Ohneck in Fort Wayne on
Aug. 2, 1941. He died Feb. 15, 1994. Surviving are 3 sons and 2
daughters-in-law, Gerald and Debra of New Haven, Timothy of Fort Wayne and Kevin
and Claudia of Union, Ky; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Lynn Bobay of

Tuesday at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was born in Fort Wayne
November 6, 1918 to Grover and Mary Caroline (Freeland) Ohneck. He married
Mae Sommers on August 2, 1941 in Fort Wayne. He attended Arcola School and
was employed by Dana Corp. in Fort Wayne as an electrician for 30 years,
retiring in 1977. Surviving are his wife; 3 sons, Jerry of New Haven,
Timothy of Fort Wayne, and Kevin of Columbia, Mo.; a daughter, Mrs. Lynn

of a heart attack Nov. 22 in his home. He was vice president of
Water Utilities, Inc., and manager of the local water facility. He was a member
of the First Presbyterian Church, Warsaw Rotary Club and the Warsaw Elks Lodge.
He was born May 8, 1917 in Ligonier, the son of Odell and Ruth (Caldwell)
Oldfather. In 1935 he was married in Goshen to the former Mary E. Yeager. He had
been a resident of Warsaw since 1937. Surviving are the wife; a son, Daniel O.,
Coltsneck, N.J.; a daughter, Mrs. Marilyn Zolman, Indian Head Park, Ill.; one
sister, Mrs. Robert (Joan) Francis, Milwaukee, Wis.; 5 grandchildren; and one

1910 in Auburn. He died in 1957. She was a resident of this area for 32 years
after moving here from Wolcottville. Three sisters and one brother preceded her

Olinger William, 77, committed suicide Friday at his home southeast of
Kendallville by shooting himself through the head with a .22 caliber rifle. He
had been seriously ill for several weeks from diabetes and dropsy and had
threatened to end his life several times. Surviving are the widow; 3 sons, Gary
at home, Emmett near Garrett, another son by a former marriage; and a daughter,

Olinghouse Rollen E, 83, of Ligonier, died Friday in Goshen
Hospital where he had undergone surgery several days ago. He was born Jan. 9,
1888 in LaGrange County. He and Ruby Shearer were married Feb. 9, 1939. He had
operated a movie projector at the Crystal Theatre for many years and had spent
his lifetime in the Ligonier area. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Ila

Olinghouse Roy, a young garage operator of Ligonier, died Jan. 24 at Elkhart Hospital following an attack of acute diabetes. He was 43 years
and 5 days. He was born near Topeka Jan. 19, 1892, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elias
Olinghouse. Several years ago he engaged in garage work and at the time of his
death was associated with the South Side Garage in Ligonier. On June 2, 1914 he
married Leta Trittipo and they had three children, William dying in infancy, and two daughters, Maureen and Dolores. He
was affiliated with the Ligonier Masonic Lodge. Surviving are the widow and
daughters, the parents, one sister, Mrs. B. F. Devel, two brothers, Russell and

Care Center. Born in Ligonier on Nov. 14, 1893, she was the daughter of Charles

Rollen Olinghouse, who died in 1971. She was a lifetime area resident and a
member of the Methodist Church. Survivors are a niece, Mrs. E. H. Kimball of

Tuesday at McCray Hospital. Born Sept. 1, 1910 in Ill., she was the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Gray Conkling. On Aug. 10, 1929 in Ligonier she married Don L.
Oliver. She was a professional seamstress and tailor, a member of Faith United
Methodist Church, Kendallville, a charter member of VFW Auxiliary Post 2749, VFW
Auxiliary No. 857, Fort Wayne, Royal Neighbors of America, Fort Wayne, Girl
Scout leader 8 years in Kendallville and has more than 5,000 volunteer hours at
the VA Hospital in Fort Wayne. Surviving are her husband; her stepmother, Mary
Jane Conkling at the Lutheran Home; 2 daughters, Dorothy Bigelow and Ethel Mapp
of Roswell, N.M.; a son Don L. Jr., Kendallville; 2 brothers, Gail of North

Oliver Belinda, nee Alexander-Stone, wife of Thomas Oliver, was born in
Somerset County, Penn. Aug. 31, 1839 and died Sept. 7, near Woodruff, LaGrange County, aged 64 years 28 days. At the age of 9 she with her
mother moved to Wayne County, Ohio and one year later moved to Kendallville. On
April 12, 1857 she married Henry Stone, who died March 1, 1875. In 1877 she
married Thomas Oliver. She was the mother of 12 children, 7 of whom preceded her
in death. Those that remain are Melissa E., wife of A. J. Seagley;
Aggie M., wife of J. O. Wiggins; Lucy M., wife of Alva Whitford; Solomon S.
Stone and Milo Oliver; with 3 sisters and one brother. She was a member of the
Evangelical Association. Funeral in the Woodruff Church. Interment in

Oliver Bessie B (Damy) was born in Perry Twp Sept. 18, 1889 and died
March 13, 1913 at Kewana, Ill. She married Perry A. Oliver Feb. 15, 1911
and they had 2 children, Louis and Everett. She united with the United
Brethren Church at Burr Oak. Two years ago she moved to Kewana,
Ill. She leaves to mourn a husband and 2 children. Funeral last

Oliver Don Lavon Jr, 72, of Roswell, N.M., died April 26, 2003 at Eastern
New Mexico Medical Center. In Kendallville, he served as a
firefighter. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving 7 years during the
Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene and the
VFW. He was born in Valparaiso May 9, 1930 to Don LaVon and Artie Mae (Conkling)
Oliver. He married Ruth Ann Schlegel March 15, 1969 in Dunkirk.
Surviving are his wife; 5 sons, Rick Oliver and Christopher Latta of
Kendallville, Chris Oliver of Roswell, Robert and Michael Oliver of Germany; 2
sisters and a brother-in-law, Dorothy and Merrill Bigelow of Roswell and Ethel

residence. She was born Dec. 23, 1929 in Noble County, the daughter of Clarence

lifetime area resident, she was a 1947 graduate of Wolf Lake High School.

Ligonier. He was born in Green Center September 22, 1928 to John and

Frain. He retired in 1990 from Kendallville Iron & Metal. He was
a veteran of the U. S. Army, discharged in 1957. Surviving are his wife; 3

Pierceton, and Tom and Jackie Oliver of Brimfield; 5 grandchildren and 6

southwest of Albion Thursday from pernicious anemia. She was born in
Jefferson Twp Dec. 10, 1883, the daughter of John H. and Ann
Guthrie. She married Reuben Oliver Sept. 27, 1905. In March 1908 she and husband
moved to Port Mitchell where she spent her remaining days. Her mother died June 25, 1901 and her youngest brother Sept. 25, 1915. She is
survived by a husband; a foster son, an aged father; three brothers, George,

Oliver Margaret, 82, widow of Sam Oliver, died Tuesday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Frank
Enos. Death was due to
complications. She was born in Morrow County, Ohio March 16, 1854 and died Dec. 15, 1936. She was married to Samuel Oliver Jan. 4, 1874. Funeral

Oliver Margaret (Hanlon) was born in Allegheny County, Pa. Dec. 8, 1824,
and died in Noble County Aug. 7, 1903, aged 78 years, 8 months and 4 days.
She was the last one of a family of ten children to pay the debt to nature. She
with some brothers and a sister came to Indiana in 1856 and settled in Noble
County where she lived the remainder of her life. She was married to George
Oliver Oct. 8, 1857. They had one child, a daughter who survives
her. Her husband heeded the call of his country in the Civil War and gave his
life to save the land he so dearly loved. She remained his widow until her
death. She united with the Presbyterian Church in her early youth. She leaves

Oliver Maude M, 82, died Sunday at her home in Wolf Lake
from heart failure. She was born July 24, 1898 at Seymour, a daughter of Ted and
Nora Sweeney McCamment. She lived in the Wolf Lake area and was educated
in Pleasant Lake School. Sept. 14, 1917 she was married to Reuben Oliver at
Hartford City. They lived at Port Mitchell in Noble County and lived in the
Cromwell and Syracuse areas before moving to Wolf Lake in 1943. He died Nov. 8,
1943. She was a seamstress and a member of the Wolf Lake Seventh Day Adventist
Church. Surviving are a son, Robert H., Oliver Lake; 3 daughters, Mrs. Robert (Rolena)
Collinsworth of Wolf Lake, Mrs. Elbert (Helen) Wolf of Bonners Ferry, Idaho,
Mrs. John (Evelyn) Scott of Albion; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren;
and one great-great-grandson; a sister, Mrs. Irene Crandall of Collegedale,
Tenn. A daughter, Doretha, a brother and two sisters are deceased. Burial, Rose

Oliver Olga, 89, died July 22, 1992 in Hillcrest Health Care Center in
Jeffersonville. She was born July 3, 1903 in Chile, South America and
graduated from Warsaw High School in 1921 and the University of Michigan in
1927. She was a production manager at Wirk Co. in the 1930s and retired
from teaching in the Ligonier and LaGrange school systems in 1967.

Oliver Samuel was born in DeKalb County, Ind. Sept. 8, 1844 and died at his home in Albion Sept. 24, 1927. When he was a young man and the
country was divided by Civil War he answered the call for volunteers and served
for 3 years in the Union Army, being discharged at the close of the war. On Jan.
4, 1874 he married Margaret Ann Zigler, who
survives. They had 8 children, five of whom are still living, 4
girls and one son. There are also 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
In 1900 he united with the Baptist Church at Burr Oak. + 9-?-1927
Olmstead George Edwin of Albion, a traveling salesman who had been
stopping at the Illinois Hotel in Bloomington since Saturday, died last night at the Nickel Hospital at Eureka as the result of injuries
received in an automobile accident near Roanoke. He was endeavoring to pass a
car at a point about a mile south of Roanoke when his Maxwell roadster turned
over 2 or 3 times. X-ray examination disclosed the fact that 2 vertebrae in his
spinal column were fractured and there was practically no hope of recovery. He
was born at Fort Wayne July 8, 1892, the son of Leslie and Nan Olmstead, and
died at the Nicolas Hospital in Eureka, Ill. May 7, 1923, age 31
years, 8 months and 28 days. When 6 years of age he moved with his parents to
Albion where he has continuously resided with the exception of about 6 years. He
attended the Albion school and Huntington business college. He married Carrie Weeks July 7, 1909.
They had 2 sons, Ralph
and George, the latter dying in infancy. He was a traveling salesman for the
Royal Chair Corp. of Sturgis, Mich., and also for Mutchler Bros. of Nappanee. He
was a member of the Masonic Order No. 97 of Albion and the Illinois Traveling
Men’s Association. He is survived by the widow, son, father and mother. +

Heart Home in Avilla. He was born in Berkeley, California, on October 13, 1951, to H. Richard and Eleanor (McCleer)
Olsen. His father preceded his death February 28, 2007. He
graduated from East Noble High School in 1970 from Indiana University-Purdue
University Fort Wayne in 2006. He was employed with paramedic/EMT for 15 years
throughout Indiana, Iowa and New Mexico. He had also worked in a retail picture framing in Fort Wayne and recently was an
academic adviser graduate assistant at IPFW from 2008-10. Survivors include his
mother; 2 sisters, Donna and Howard Rines of Shoreview, Minnesota, and Carolyn

Olsen H Richard "Dick", 87, died February 28, 2007 at Parkview Noble
Hospital. He was vice president and general manager of Quick Tanks in
Kendallville 1966-1978 and retired from the real estate business as a broker
with Hosler Realty after 20 years. A former Wayne Twp assessor, he was a
member of Kendallville Elks Lodge, Rotary Club and the third remaining member of
the California Cat Club. He was born in Hayward, Calif. on April 29, 1919
to Howard L. and Frances Grace (Stubblefield) Olsen. He married Eleanor
Ruth McCleer on June 27, 1942 in Berkeley, Calif. He served in the
U.S. Army during WW II and was in the Battle of the Bulge. Surviving are 2
daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Howard Rines of Shoreview, Minn., and
Carolyn and Joe Stephenson of Albuquerque, N.M.; 3 sons and 2 daughters-in-law,
Donald and Rebecca Olsen of Fort Wayne, Douglas Olsen of Kendallville, and
Stephen and Romia Olsen of North Manchester; a brother and sister-in-law Robert
and Barbara Olsen of San Ramon, Calif.; 3 grandchildren, David and Olga Rines,

Avilla. He was born April 12, 1934 in Rochester, Minn., the son of Harry and
Mary (Campbell) Olsen. On Feb. 16, 1957 he married Gail Lewis. He moved from
Fort Wayne in 1959 to Albion and lived at his present home since 1985. He was a
sales engineer for Fluid-Scope in Indianapolis and served as a pilot for the U.
S. Air Force 1952-57. Surviving are his wife; 2 sisters, Gean Glarner of
Cohasset, Minn., and Marie Erickson of Bay St. Louis, Miss. Funeral arrangements

married Mary Louise Woodcox in Bellerose, N.Y. Surviving are his wife in

born December 11, 1916 in Fort Wayne, the daughter of Fred C. and Eleanor (Tielker) Miller. She moved to Kendallville where she owned Rollins Realty
for over 25 years. She had lived in Madeira Beach since 1975.
Surviving are one son, William D. of Pierson, Mich., and his wife, Barbara; one
daughter, Virginia Peacock of San Francisco, Calif.; and one brother-in-law,

Olson Lillian Hawkins, 93, of Avilla, died Tuesday in McCray Hospital in
Kendallville. She was born October 27, 1900 in St. Marks to John and Mary
(Goeppner) Appel. She married Ralph Hawkins in 1925 and he died in
1943. In 1972 she married William Olson and he died in 1984. She was
employed in the accounting department of Wirk Garment Co. in Ligonier and was
also secretary to Mortimer Cole, attorney at law in Ligonier. She was a
former member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Ligonier.
Surviving are 3 sons, Jim Hawkins of Fort Wayne, Tom Hawkins of Garrett, and
Jerry Hartman of Hillman, Minn.; 2 daughters, Thora Knight of Phoenix, Ariz.,
and Nancy Gangwer of Ligonier; 15 grandchildren and 13
great-grandchildren. Three brothers and one sister preceded her in

residence. She was born February 26, 1927 in Auburn to Cornelius

married Arnold Olson in Bellerose, N.Y. on June 10, 1945. They returned to
Indiana in 1967. She is survived by 5 daughters and 4 sons-in-law, Karin
and Ron Johnson of Vermont, Kirstin and Michael Murphy of New Hampshire, Wendy
and Alain Fournier of Paris, France, Sherri Olson and Arthur Smith of Conn.; and
Shelley Olson of Kendallville; 3 sons and one daughter-in-law, Eric and Cathy
Blyth Olson of Fort Wayne, and Carl and Brent Olson of Kendallville; 7
grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her
husband on November 10, 2000; and 3 brothers, W. Gray, Josiah and Byron Woodcox. She played the organ at various churches, including her husband's
in Ardsley, N.Y. She earned her master's degree in elementary education
from Indiana-Purdue University at Fort Wayne and taught at Garrett-Keyser-Butler

residence. Born Aug. 14, 1925, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Eddie and Myrtle

Division. He was a business man with Don Fruchey's for 32 years, retiring in
1988; owner and timber buyer at Midwest Timber for several years and still
continued to buy timber; and was a lifetime farmer. He was a member of Iron
Workers Union, American Legion Post 240; Masons, and Shriners. Surviving are his
wife of 62 years, Margie Opliger of LaOtto; sons, Geronimo (Connie) Opliger and
Luke (Kim) Lukasheay; daughter, Heidi (Jeff) Sparkman; and three grandchildren,

19, 1964. He moved to Rome City 25 years ago from Fort Wayne, was retired from
Phelps Dodge Magnet Wire where he had worked 23 years. He was a member of Father’s

Edwin P. Oppelt on June 18, 1994 in Westlake. She was a 1937 graduate of
Kendallville High School and attended Western University in Oxford, Ohio.
She was a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church and Women of the
Moose in Huntington. Surviving are her husband; a son, David L. Tyler of
Huntington; 2 daughters, Mrs. Jack (Alice) Hollopeter of Vancouver, Wash., and

Patton, CPA, for 18 years. She was a member of Ligonier United Methodist
Church and was secretary-treasurer for Ligonier Cemetery Association for 20

Orr Abram was born in Crawford County, Ohio July 9, 1838, and died in
Kendallville Jan. 8, 1907. He had lived in this city for perhaps 35 years. He
married Sarah McInturf on Dec. 20, 1863. They had two children, both
still living, Elmer Orr and Mrs. Vesta Adams of Garrett. He belonged to a family
of 12 children, but since his death only 2 of them remain, Henry Orr of the
Soldiers’ Home of Marion, and Mrs. Martha LaFollette of Wabash, Ind. He was a
member of the Methodist Episcopal Church for nearly 45 years. He was a member of

Orr Alexander was born in Richland County, Ohio, Sept. 6, 1836. He came
to Indiana in 1852. In Feb. 1862 he married Annie Knight and for many years had
been a resident of Kendallville. He departed this life April 6, 1887, aged 50
years and 7 months. He leaves a wife, two daughters, 4 brothers and one sister.

Orr Anna (Knight) was born on the 12th day of Feb. in the year
1841 at Seneca Falls in the state of New York; died in Kendallville June
13, 1900. She was of English descent, her parents having come to America from
the mother country, old England. Early in life, with her parents, she removed to
Cleveland, O., where she lived for one brief year, going from thence with the
family to the vicinity of Wolf Lake in the year 1853. Three years later
her parents died. She taught school, having taught near Kendallville at what is
known as the Sawyer school house. She was married on the 20th day of
Feb. in the year 1862 to Mr. Alexander Orr, who 13 years ago died. They had three children, two of whom are living, Mrs. E. D. Augur of
Chicago, and Mrs. A. B. Waterhouse. She and her husband moved to Big Rapids,
Mich. in 1871 and remained there until 1878 after which they returned to
Kendallville. After the death of her husband she engaged in business. She united
with the Church of Christ in Kendallville. She leaves three brothers, three
sisters, her daughter. Funeral June 15 from the residence of Mr.

Orr Emma M (Spackeen) was born in Kendallville Sept. 12, 1869 and died at
her home in Garrett May 24, aged 31 years 8 months and 12 days. She was married
to Elmer R. Orr June 14, 1893. They had three children, two of which
are living. She leaves a father, mother, 5 brothers, 3 sisters, a husband and 2

Orr F Franklin, 80, died Wednesday in his Albion residence. He was
born June 13, 1917 in North Manchester to G. Scott and Iva (Aughinbaugh)
Orr. On August 21, 1943 in Rochester he married Gladys Couts. She
died November 4, 1997. He was a 1943 graduate of Moody Bible Institute and
pastor of Merriam Christian Chapel 1943-1979. Surviving are 2 sons, Philip
of Ligonier and Dale of Albion; a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Ronda) Salge of
Churubusco; and 6 grandchildren, Eric, Baxter, Kyle and Taylor Orr, and Jay and
Lou Salge; a brother, Rev. Fred Orr of North Manchester; and 3 sisters, Lucy Orr
of North Manchester, Mrs. James (Jean) Phenicie of Huntington, and Mrs. Gene

Orr Gladys M, 76, died Tuesday in D&D Nursing Home in Ligonier.
She was born March 6, 1921 in Detroit to Harold and Jessie (Parks) Couts.
On August 21, 1943 in Rochester she married Rev. F. Franklin Orr. She was
a 1939 graduate of Detroit Northern High School and had lived in Noble County
since 1943. She was a member of Merriam Christian Chapel. Surviving
are her husband; 2 sons, Philip of Ligonier and Dale of Albion; a
daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Ronda) Salge of Churubusco; 3 sisters, Mrs. Paul (Marie)
Maitland of Orangeville, Ill., Velva Mills of Newberry, Mich., and Lola Escobado

March 3, 1949 in Wolf Lake to F. Franklin and Gladys M. (Couts) Orr. On

Fort Wayne’s St. Joseph Hospital. Born March 9, 1924 in Floyd County, Ky., she
was the daughter of F. D. and Martha (Cole) Henson. She married Estle Orsborne
May 22, 1948 in Prestonsburg, Ky. She had lived in the Ligonier-Kimmell
area for 19 years. She was a retired employee of the Ligonier Rubber Co. and a
member of the Lighthouse Tabernacle. Survivors include the husband; twin

Orsborne Estle, 66, of R. 2, Ligonier, died Sunday in the VA
Medical Center, Fort Wayne. He had moved to this area in 1952 from High Hat,
Ky., and was a WW II Army veteran. He was a retired construction worker. Born in
Louisville, Ky., Dec. 5, 1920, he was the son of Milton and Rosie (Hatfield)
Orsborne. On May 22, 1948 in Kentucky, he married Edna Henson, who died in 1979.

Ort Charles A, 82, was born Oct. 2, 1891 at Hartford City to William and
Alice (Garver) Ort. He moved to Garrett in 1911 and married Frances J. Erickson
Oct. 12, 1911. She survives, along with a son, William A., one daughter, Madolin
Ort; and a sister, Mrs. Fred Spalding of Hartford City; three grandchildren and
six great-grandchildren. He died Wednesday of a heart attack after
working his normal day in Ort’s uptown Garrett store. One of Garrett’s most
prominent businessmen and the Chamber of Commerce "Citizen of the Year for
1967", he was twice president of the Chamber of Commerce. He purchased the
Henry L. Wehrly Jewelry Store in Garrett in 1924 and in 1970 added Ort’s South
House. A member of the First Church of Christ, he held every lay post offered by

Ort Frances J, 89, died Thursday at the Betz Nursing Home in Auburn. She
was the widow of prominent Garrett businessman, Charles Ort, who died Dec. 5,
1973. She was born Dec. 27, 1889 in Garrett to William and Rebecca (Whan)
Erickson and had lived there her entire life until entering the nursing home.
She and her husband were married Oct. 12, 1911 in Garrett. He was owner and
operator of Ort’s Jewelry Store and Ort’s South House furniture store.
Surviving are one son, William of Garrett; one daughter, Madolin, Garrett; one
brother, Archie, West Virginia; three grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren. She was a member of the First Church of Christ in Garrett

Ort Larry J, 70, died Jan. 5, 2001 in his Kimmell home. He served
in the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and was employed as a truck
driver/dispatcher for Scott Freight in Fort Wayne. He was a member of Eden
Community Church and North Webster American Legion Post. He was born in
New Haven on Dec. 22, 1930 to Lawrence and Edna (Clark) Ort. He married
Wilma Imagene Barthouse who died in 1980. He married Betty Tackitt Nelson
on Sept. 4, 1982 in Kimmell. Surviving are his wife; 2 sons and one

Haines City, Fla., where he had lived for 5 years. He was a 30-year employee of

Ort Sidney, a lifelong resident of Churubusco, was born Mach 17, 1889 to Sanford
and Vietta Krider Ort. He died (d. 7-17-1966) as he was preparing to go
to the lake cottage of some friends. On Sept. 6, 1911 he married Mary McConnell.
He operated the Ort Dept. Store which dominated the business scene on the east
side of Churubusco for 42 years, taking over the business from his father. He
was a member of the First Methodist Church here and a member of Masonic Lodge
515 and Scottish Rite. He played with the Shrine Band in Fort Wayne for many
years. He was a veteran of WW I and a charter member of American Legion, Gilbert
Davis Post 157 of Churubusco. He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs.
Robert Creadick of Wilmington, Del.; a son, Richard of Northbrook Ill.; 9

Ort Wilma I, 58, of Knapp Lake, died Monday in St. Joseph
Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born July 21, 1923 in Bluffton, she was the daughter of

Larry Ort. She had lived in the Knapp Lake area 23 years after moving from New

Orth Albert A, 63, died last Thursday in a Terre Haute hospital of
injuries received the day previously as he was struck by a car in front of his
home on U. S. 40. He was an instructor in Cromwell High School in early 1920’s.
Because of ill health and poor eyesight he was forced to give up his teaching
public schools years ago, but had continued his interest in education by acting
as tutor for many children and adults. + 5-?-1963
Ortstadt Anna, 90, suffered a heart attack Tuesday and was found dead.
She was visiting at the home of Mrs. Bird Morlan in Monticello. A native of
Kendallville and long-time resident of that city, she was the widow of Julius
Ortstadt, former Kendallville tailor. She was the oldest living member of St.
John Lutheran Church in Kendallville and was to be honored in the near future. A
daughter of John and Sophia Wilk, she was born June 27, 1868 and was
married in 1894 to Mr. Ortstadt, who died in 1940. Survivors are two sons, Paul
of Monticello, and Carl of Victorville, California; seven grandchildren and
eight great-grandchildren. One son, John, is deceased. The body was brought to
the L. E. Berhalter & Son Funeral Home in Kendallville. Services

Ortstadt Henry L "Larry", 83, of
Kendallville, died Saturday in McCray Hospital emergency room from a
heart attack. A third generation Kendallville resident, he was born Jan. 4,
1904, the son of Henry and Cora (Pepple) Ortstadt. On Jan. 30, 1937 in
Pittsburgh, Pa., he married Margaret E. "Peg" Lang. A lifetime
Kendallville resident, he was former vice president and treasurer of Flint &
Walling Mfg. Co. He graduated from Kendallville High School in 1921 and the
University of Ill. in 1927, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.
For several years he wrote a column, The Taffrail Log, for the News-Sun. He was
a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Kendallville. Surviving are his wife; 2
daughters, Mrs. Jerome (Kathrina) Green of Gainesville, Ga., and Mrs. Larry
(Edith) Nissen of Bettendorf, Iowa; a sister, Helen White of Harbert, Mich.; 4

Ortstadt Margaret L "Peg", 101, died June 23, 2007 in
Bettendorf, Iowa. She had worked at The Mode in downtown Kendallville and
was a member of Tri Kappa and DAR. She was born Dec. 19, 1905 in
Pittsburgh, Pa. to Walter and Elizabeth (Riddle) Lang. She married Henry
Lawrence Ortstadt in January 1937 in Pittsburgh. He died in Sept.
1987. Surviving are 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Edith and Larry Nissen of
Bettendorf and Kathrena and Jerome Green of Flowery Branch, Ga.; 4 grandchildren

Orwig June, 79, Corunna, died April 3, 2002 in Shepherd of the Hill
nursing home in Kendallville. She was a homemaker and formerly lived in
rural Corunna. She was a member of the Corunna Church of Christ. She
was born February 16, 1923 in DeKalb County to Clarence and Bonnie (Mason)
Weirick. Surviving are 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Marta Orwig
and Tom and Pam Orwig of Corunna; one sister, Joy Mueller, of LaOtto; and

Twp farmer his entire life. He was born in DeKalb County March 7, 1921, the son

Osborn Alvah Orlando, only son of Nathaniel Paine and
Elizabeth Osborn, was born Sept. 12, 1856 in LaGrange County, Ind. During his
boyhood and young manhood he resided with his parents in LaGrange County. At the
age of 18, upon the death of his parents, he came to live in Noble County with
his sister, Mrs. Ananias Stewart. On May 28, 1882 he married Louisa Stewart. They spent their early married life in LaGrange County and at
Wawaka, moving to Brimfield in Dec. 1891, where they have since maintained their
home. Their six children grew to manhood and womanhood. The first daughter died April 10, 1918 at the age of 28 years. The two sons are Earl
Orlando at Kahoka, Miss., Earnest Dale at Toledo, O.; the 3 daughters are Mrs.
Marie Olry, Kendallville, Mrs. Marjorie Reidenbach, Morocco, Ind., and Mrs. Eva
Schlichtenmyer, Brimfield. In his early manhood he learned and practiced the
tinner’s trade. The last 19 years of his active life were spent as a
rural mail carrier, retiring at the age of 65. He is a member of the United
Brethren Church at Brimfield, and the IOOF for the past 45 years. On Feb. 16,
1932 he died at the home of his daughter in Morocco, Ind. Three
sisters preceded him in death, Ella Osborn, Mrs. Julia Frisby and Mrs. Salome
Stewart. Surviving are his widow, 5 children, 20 grandchildren and one sister,

bring rushed to Lakeside Hospital in Kendallville after suffering a fall on a
stairway at the Noble County court house. She was accompanied by a daughter,
Mrs. H. C. Schlichtenmyer when she suddenly slipped and plunged down the steps.

apparent heart attack. He was born Aug. 6, 1915 in Elkhart County, the son of
Jake and Agnes (Kleinert) Osborne. He moved back to this area in 1983 and
operated Osborne Construction Company. He was preceded in death by his first
wife, the former Irene Smith, in 1963, and by his second wife, the former Ruby

Osborne Mildred Stabler, 90, died Friday in Lutheran Hospital, Fort
Wayne. She was born August 4, 1907 in Topeka to Amos and Rosa (Kime)
Fought. In 1929 she married Glen Stabler, who preceded her in death.
In 1972 she married Elmer Osborne, who preceded her in death. She retired
from Maple Leaf Farm in 1974. Surviving are a son, Larry Stabler of

Osbun Brian E, 26, Kendallville, was fatally injured
Friday night in a 2-car accident in LaGrange County. He was eastbound on U. S.
20 ten miles east of LaGrange when he crossed the center line and struck another
vehicle. He was the son of Lauren and Donna (Coy) Osbun and an employee of
Coleman Seating, Elkhart. He was a 1976 graduate of East Noble High School.
Surviving are his parents and two brothers, William and Terry,
Kendallville; one sister, Mrs. John (Sherry) Kemerly, Avilla; grandparents, Mr.

born in Swan Twp, Noble County, April 13, 1916 to Earl and Ollie (Wappes)
Bricker. On May 7, 1934 in Kendallville she married Raymond Dwight Osbun. She was an employee of Kendallville Printing Co. and was a member
of Wayne Center United Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband; a
daughter, Mrs. David (Marna) Manuel of Kendallville; 3 sons, Lauren, Keith and

her home 6 miles northeast of this city from apoplexy. She was born at Waterloo
Jan. 7, 1868, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Miller. Surviving are the
husband who was employed at the Kendallville Foundry; 2 daughters and 2 sons,
including Clyde of near this city, Charles, Jackson, Mich., Mrs. Orville Frey
near Garrett, and Mrs. Gladys Talsestrow of Muskegon Heights. Delbert Miller of

Osbun Raymond Dwight, 81, died July 16, 1995 in his Kendallville
residence. He was born in Auburn on December 31, 1913 to Clyde and Lilly
(Rohm) Osbun. On May 7, 1934 in Kendallville he married Elmo I.
Bricker. She died July 20, 1991. He retired in 1971 from Newnam
Foundry in Kendallville and had worked 8 years for the Kendallville Park &
Recreation Dept. He was a member of Wayne Center United Methodist
Church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. David (Marna) Manuel of
Kendallville; 3 sons, Lauren, Keith and Barry of Kendallville; 4 brothers,
Donald of Butler, Lester and Chester of Auburn, and Everett of Churubusco; 11

Osner Bess Kelham, of Delano, California, died November 25
in her home there. The daughter of Joseph and Gertrude Whetzel, she was born in
Swan Twp. In June 1908 she was married to Fred Kelham. He died in October
1909. She and daughter, Emma, resided with her parents. She and George Osner
were married in Ithaca, N.Y., later going to California to live. She is survived
by her husband, George, Delano; a daughter, Mrs. Emma Gilbreth, Fort Ord,
Calif.; a son, Henry Osner, Modesto, Calif.; six grandchildren; two sisters, Amy
and Minnie Whetzel of Ithaca, N.Y.; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. S. E. Whetzel,

Osterlund Olive Marie, 84, of Albion, died Sept. 17, 2001 in Provena
Sacred Heart home in Avilla. She was a member of Sparta United Church of
Christ and a member of Noble County Historical Society and the Gene Stratton
Porter Memorial Society. She was born July 16, 1917 in St. Joseph County
to Russell Edgar Magnus and Mary Jane (Blough) Magnus. She married Sven
Osterlund on May 1, 1941 in Chicago. He died Jan. 24, 1990. A
brother, Roy Mangus is also deceased. Surviving are 2 daughters and
sons-in-law, Carol and Pat Adams of Fulton, Mo., and Linda and Al Kleen of Des
Plaines, Ill.; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Carl and Carolyn Osterlund of

Osterlund Sven G, 76, died Tuesday in Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater,
Fla. He was born in Chicago February 23, 1913, the son of Sven and Beda (Spjuth)
Osterlund. On May 1, 1941 in Chicago he married Olive Mangus. He was a graduate of Nicholas Senn High School in Chicago in 1932
and was a WW II U. S. Navy veteran. In 1987 he was named Albion Citizen of
the Year. He was a member of Sparta United Church of Christ in Kimmell,
served on the Noble County Library Board, was a member of Albion American Legion
Post 246, Rotary Club, Masonic Lodge 97, Noble County Historical Society, and
Scottish Rite of Fort Wayne. Surviving are his wife; 2 daughters, Mrs. Pat
(Carol) Adams of Fulton, Mo., and Mrs. Albert (Linda) Kleen of Des Plaines,
Ill.; 2 sons, Carl of Warren, Mich., and Alan of Albion; a sister, Mrs. David (Elvy) LaMothe of Lafayette; and 8 grandchildren. Services Saturday in

Sunday at Parkview Hospital. A native of Allen County, he retired from the Fort
Wayne News-Sentinel as night janitor in 1964 after 22 years. Since that time he

Ostermeier Carl A, 76, of R. 2, Fort Wayne, died in Parkview Hospital
April 17. He was a lifelong Fort Wayne resident and retired employee of General

Ostermeier Thomas, 47, of R. 1, LaOtto, died Sunday at Fort
Wayne’s Parkview Hospital. Born July 31, 1936 in Allen County, he was the son
of Carl and Janet (Stauffer) Ostermeier. On Sept. 22, 1956 he married Joan
Jeanmougin. He moved from Fort Wayne west of LaOtto in 1972. He was a brick
mason and a member of Union Local 2 and the Leo Masonic Lodge No. 224. Surviving
are his wife; his mother Janet Amstutz in Fort Wayne; 2 daughters, Marcie and

She had retired in 1985 after serving as a registered nurse in Michigan,
Virginia, Maryland and Florida for 45 years. She was a graduate of St.

Church. She was born October 19, 1922 in Allen County to Merl and Trudie

Richard E. Ostrander on Dec. 26, 1947 at his parents' home in Ligonier.

of Ligonier; one daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Jerry Anglin of Ligonier;

American Legion Post 243 Auxiliary and Syracuse Eagles Lodge 3760

Ligonier, died Oct. 6, 1958 from cancer. She was born April 3, 1898 at
Mongo and had resided at Ligonier the past 45 years. Her husband, Earl, died in
1955. She was a member of the Calvary Temple and Eagles Lodge Auxiliary.
Surviving are 3 daughters, Katherine, Mrs. Frank Christlieb and Mrs. George

an apparent heart attack. He was born March 16, 1927 in Ligonier, the son
of Lyman E. and Minnie I. (Merriman) Ostrander. On December 26, 1947 in
Albion he married Betty R. Swickard. He retired in 1983 from New
York Central Railroad. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Jerry
(Carolyn) Anglin of Ligonier; 2 sons, Michael of Ligonier and Richard of
Michigan City; 2 sisters, Katherine Ostrander and Alice Lindemuth of Ligonier; a
brother, Robert of Fort Wayne; and 7 grandchildren. One brother and one

Sons, Kendallville, and Frick Lumber Yard in Brimfield. He was a member of

lifelong resident of the Churubusco area, she graduated from Churubusco High
School in 1991. She was a member of First Church of God in Columbia City. On
July 7, 1994 in Huntertown she married Chad D. Oswald. She had been employed at
Contractors Warehouse in Fort Wayne since September. Surviving are her husband
