Nicely Goldie F, 88, LaVerna Terrace Apartments, died Thursday in McCray Hospital. She had lived in Avilla six years and was the former clerk of the Antwerp, Ohio, post office and had lived in Toledo for 40 years. She was born Oct. 30, 1900 in Antwerp, the daughter of Howard and Mattie (Hixson) Treaster. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Norman (Doris) Ayers of St. Joe; one grandson, and two great-grandsons. Nicholas Anna M, 85, of Lakewood, Ohio, and formerly of LaOtto, died March 16, 2011, at Lakewood Hospital in Lakewood. She was born on Aug. 26, 1925, in Fort Wayne, the daughter of John Wilbur and Margaret (Johnson) Anderson. On Sept. 21, 1947, in Fort Wayne she married James Nicholas. He died on Dec. 12, 1992. She and her husband moved to Ohio where she was an administrative secretary at Lakewood Hospital. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in LaOtto. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and James Laubert of Grafton Twp, Ohio; 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Charles Nicholas of Lakewood, Ohio, and John and Kathy Nicholas of Parma, Ohio 2 grandchildren, and a sister, Sharon Peters of Auburn. Nicholas James, 77, died Saturday in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was born in Fort Wayne March 18, 1915 to Nick and Kanella (Pazlopoulof) Nicholas. On September 21, 1947 in Fort Wayne he married Anna M. Anderson. He had lived in LaOtto on and off since 1937. He was a WW II veteran and retired in 1981 as a lawyer for the Veterans Administration. He was a member of LaOtto Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Rebecca Laubert of Cleveland; 2 sons, Charles of Lakewood, Ohio, and John of Parma, Ohio; a sister, Sophia Gonis of Milwaukee, Wis.; and 2 granddaughters. Nichols Beverly R, 86, died June 10, 2003 at Parkview Noble Hospital. She worked at Shepherd of the Hill from 1985 to 1996. She was born in Noble County Aug. 19, 1916 to B. Harry and Glendis (Forker) Smith. She married Elvert Harold Nichols Dec. 13, 1934 in Albion. He died Jan. 25, 1983. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Barbra and Alfred Ordway of Hamilton; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Becky Nichols of Kendallville; 3 grandchildren and one spouse, Cindy Ordway, Dennis Ordway and Jon and Crystal Nichols; 2 great-grandchildren, Brandon and Kordell Nichols; and 3 sisters, Glyndon Wright of Kendallville, Joan Bryant of Wolcottville and Carole Halferty of South Milford. Nichols Diana, 69, of Kendallville, died Feb. 26, 2011, at her residence in Kendallville. She was born in Kendallville on Dec. 18, 1941, to Merle and Beverly (Peters) Moreland. She graduated from Kendallville High School in 1959 and was married to Glenn Carlton Nichols on May 7, 1960, in St. Petersburg, Florida. Glenn died Sept. 10, 1997. She was a child care provider in her own home. She also worked for a number of years at Kraft Foods. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Kendallville. Survivors include four daughters, Wendy and Wayne Wappes of Houston, Texas, Kelly and Robbie Craft of Kendallville, Judy Spencer of Kendallville, and Sherry Nichols of Swanton, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Megan, Brittney and Paden Wappes, Kristin, Karrie and Adam Craft, Lacey and Mathew Spencer, and Dominick Nichols-Eich; two sisters, Brenda Moreland of Kendallville and Sally and Ron Blake of Van Wert, Ohio; and a brother, Jeff and Laura Moreland of Kendallville. Nichols Donna J, 65, of R. 1, Kendallville, died Thursday in McCray Hospital. She was born in DeKalb County Feb. 9, 1919 to Walter and Carrie (Foutz) Mock. She married Grant Donley Aug. 1, 1936. He died Sept. 3, 1969. On Sept. 7, 1974 she married Robert Nichols. She was a member of the Moose Lodge. Surviving are her husband; 4 daughters, Mrs. Adrian (Sonia Jean) Nowels of Kendallville, Mrs. Larry (Linda) Steckley of Jacksonville, Fla., Mrs. Jack (Pat) Hammel of Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Terry (Nina) Kinnison of Cascade, Idaho; a son, Walter Donley of New Haven; two stepsons, John and Jerry Nichols of Kendallville; 2 brothers, Angus of San Diego, Calif., and John of Jackson, Mich.; 24 grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Nichols Elvert H, 68, of R. 2, Kendallville, died Tuesday at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. The son of John and Etta (Crowell) Nichols, he was born in Orange Twp May 4, 1914. On Dec. 13, 1934 in Albion, he married Beverly Smith. He was a lifetime area resident. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Alfred (Barbra) Ordway of Hamilton; a son Michael of R. 2, Kendallville; a brother, Glenn of Phoenix, Ariz.; and 3 grandchildren. Nichols Glenn C, 59, died today in his Kendallville residence. He was born December 28, 1937 in Elm City, N.C. to Edward and Elizabeth (Stancil) Nichols. On May 7, 1960 in St. Petersburg, Fla., he married Diana D. Moreland. He moved to Kendallville in 1966 and was a welder for Wirco in Avilla. He was a member of First Christian Church, Kendallville. Nichols James Howe, 46, lawyer at Baker City, Ore., died last week in a Portland sanitarium. The son of Drusus and Jennie Nichols, he was born at Howe and attended the public schools there, graduating with the class of 1901. After completing the required 3-year law course at the University of Michigan, he began the practice of law in Baker City, Oregon. On Dec. 17, 1912 he was married at Baker City to Edith French, to which union one daughter was born. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Jennie Nichols of Howe; a brother, Drusus at Chicago; his wife and daughter of Baker City; and a sister, Mrs. Charles Evenson of Minneapolis, Minn. Nichols John A, 64, died February 5, 2005 at the Life Care Center in LaGrange. He was born May 17, 1940 in Kendallville to Robert and Mary (Richards) Nichols. He married Theresa Burns on August 3, 1974 in Stroh. Surviving are his wife; 3 daughters, Denise Miller and Mary Lehman of Kendallville, Diana and Richard Hinkle of Palmetto, Fl.; one son, Robert and Tiffany Nichols of Kendallville; one brother, Jerry and Charlotte Nichols of Kendallville; 6 grandchildren, Coleton Terry, Brent and Aydian Hinkle, Ashley and Rebecca Nichols and Abigail Smith. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Linda and Marilyn. He retired in 2003 as a fork lift driver at Dalton Foundry in Kendallville. He also operated Nichols Garage, repairing cars. Nichols John B, of Milford Twp, LaGrange County, died at his home April 9. He was born in Vermont in 1805. In 1833 he settled in Monroe County, Mich., where he purchased a farm and lived 7 years. Nichols John R, 67, died Aug. 6, 1989 in McCray Hospital. He was born in Iowa Falls, Iowa on April 22, 1922, the son of Owen and Margaret Nichols. On June 10, 1961 in Michigan City he married Laura Louise DeMarco. He was a retired factory worker, a veteran of WW II and a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Surviving are his wife; 3 sons, Adam of Kendallville, and Dorn and Steven of Goshen; 2 stepdaughters, Debbie Kelsey of Fort Wayne and Barbara Ramsby of South Bend; a stepson, Rick Kelsey of Granger; 5 sisters, Daisy Harris and Mary Tibbetts of Des Moines, Iowa, Rosemary Beller of South Bend, Esther Vincent of West Covina, Calif., and Margaret Acker of Mt. Nicholson John J, 91, died February 28, 2007 at Holy Cross Rehab & Nursing Center in Burtonsville, Md. He was born in Bristol, W.Va., on July 31, 1915 to William John and Cora (Morris) Nicholson. He married June E. Nicholson and she died February 10, 1992. He was in the construction business, employed as a carpenter with the local union. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Kathryn Nicholson of Olney, Md.; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Harold Stabe of Kendallville. Nichter Richard R, 76, died Nov. 22, 2001 at his Kendallville residence. On Oct. 22, 1925 in Fort Wayne he was born to Clarence and Mary (Baker) Nichter. He married Fay L. Robinson on June 13, 1962 in Springfield, Ill. She died Oct. 7, 1993. He worked for 22 years in sales for Fort Wayne Drug Co., Montgomery Ward and Nichter Decorating for 20 years before retiring in 1995. He was a 1943 Fort Wayne South Side High School graduate, a U.S. Marine Corps WW II veteran and a member of American Legion Post 86 and VFW Post 2749 in Kendallville. Surviving are 3 sons, Robert Nichter of Columbia City, David Nichter of Auburn and Richard Johnston of Fort Wayne; 2 daughters, Sandra Close of Columbia City and Dawn Johnston of Angola; 3 sisters, Alice Henderson, Utah, Janet Morganthaller, Lake Wawasee and Rita Gomez, Venezuela; 2 sisters-in-law, Jean Rickitt and Diane Nichter; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Nickerson Benjamin died suddenly while sitting in his chair Friday afternoon. He was born in Ohio Nov. 7, 1830, and at the time of his decease was aged 72 years, 10 months and 25 days. Nickerson Charles B, 74, died Saturday at his home in Brimfield from heart trouble and complications. He had been ill for more than a year suffering from a fall when he sustained a fractured leg. Nickerson Doyne I, 64, died May 4 in a hospital in Northridge, Calif. He was born in Kendallville March 1, 1916, the son of Leroy and Inez Nickerson, who survive at 203 E. Diamond with their niece, Mrs. Maxine Brunkhart. He served in the Armed Forces during WW II. He operated a hydroponic farm in Fla. and conducted a successful mail order business. He was the author of a best-selling cookbook published by Doubleday entitled, "365 Ways to Cook Hamburger." Also surviving is a son, Drew Doyne Nickerson of North Hollywood, Calif. Nickerson Inez Eddwina, 102, died Tuesday in Kendallville Manor Healthcare Center. She was born in Benton January 1, 1894 to Charles and Lucetta (Keck) Wolfe. On May 1, 1915 in Kendallville she married Leroy Nickerson. He died June 7, 1985. She was a member of First Christian Church. Surviving are nieces and nephews. Nickerson Leo V, 88, died this morning at the Lutheran Home. Born Oct. 15, 1892 in Noble County, she was the daughter of Clarence and Sarah (Kirkpatrick) Wise. On Jan. 15, 1919 she married Ralph Nickerson in Kendallville. He died in 1970. She was a member of the Mitchell St. Methodist Church. Nickerson Robert, 68, 416 E. Diamond St., was found dead Wednesday in his home. Death was apparently due to a sudden heart attack and it is believed he died sometime Tuesday. Born Sept. 13, 1908 in LaGrange County, he was the son of Charles and Della (Sowle) Nickerson. He had been retired. Nickolson Harold DeWayne, 47, of Columbia City, died August 15 in a 2-vehicle accident on Baseline Road. He was born March 17, 1948 in Noble County to Franklin D. and Betty Jean (Harrison) Nickolson. His father preceded him in death on November 12, 1978 and his mother on November 18, 1990. On September 17, 1979 in Columbia City he married Christine D. Hyndman. She survives. He spent most of his life in Whitley County. He had worked the past 10 years at Zanxx Corp. in Avilla. Prior to that he had been employed at Precision Plastics for 17 years. He attended Columbia City High School and was a member of Columbia City Eagles Lodge 1906. Also surviving are 2 sons, Aarinn D. and Marc A, both of Columbia City; 2 stepdaughters, Rhonda McCammon of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Angie Hull of Columbia City; a brother, John, of Albion; and a sister, Mrs. Rex (Laura) Slagal of Columbia City. He was born in Wolf Lake April 22, 1949 to Franklin and Betty Jean (Harrison) Nickolson. On April 24, 1970 he married Susan L. Ernst. He had been employed at Morsches Builders Mart in Columbia City and Huntington and had worked for Jim Davis Roofing Co. Surviving are his wife; 2 sons, Shane and Christopher; a daughter, Shelly; a sister, Laura K. Slagal of Columbia City; and a brother, Gene of Nebraska. Nicodemus Letha M, 78, formerly of Merriam, died at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Ligonier, (d. 9-24-1986). Born in Noble County Aug. 6, 1908, she was the daughter of Emry and Mary (McNeal) Zigler. On April 21, 1928 in Albion she married Franklin "Ira" Nicodemus. He died May 30, 1976. Surviving are 2 daughters, Mrs. Ernest (Mary Lou) Tucker of rural Albion and Barbara J. Nicodemus William, about 50, fell dead Saturday on the platform of the Wabash Depot at Fort Wayne, death being caused by dilation of the heart. He was employed in the Wabash shops as assistant boiler maker working nights and had just finished his work when stricken. She grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y. and worked for American Airlines, retiring in 1976 after 30 years. Niles Mary A, daughter of Phillip and Elizabeth Huff, was born on the farm of her parents 3 ½ miles west of Albion May 3, 1862. She was the second of a family of ten children, 5 boys and 5 girls. Two sisters and one brother and the father preceded her in death many years ago. She was married to Jacob Niles of Albion March 23, 1896, who died Sept. 5, 1897. Niles Nathan, 56, died at his home in Albion of erysipelas (also called St. Anthony’s fire) Feb. 14, 1891. Born in Steuben County, New York, he acquired a good education in Oberlin College in Ohio and came to Noble County in 1854. He taught his first school at the Blackman School in York Twp for which he received $54 for 60 days’ teaching. After teaching for a time at Middlebury in Elkhart County, he returned to Noble County to teach a number of terms of school. After marrying Jannett Hubbard, he farmed for a while and then engaged in the sale of hardware and agricultural implements in Ligonier. He then purchased a farm on the south branch of the Elkhart River in York Twp upon which he resided until about a year ago when he moved to Albion. Funeral at the family residence. Niman Cora B, 98, widow of Charles Niman, died Oct. 17 at the home of her nephew, John C. McCoy. She came to the McCoy home to live in 1939 from Elkhart where she had lived for 40 years. She was born in South Milford, LaGrange County, March 10, 1859 and taught school before and after her marriage. Her husband died in 1904. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in LaGrange. Niman John Wesley was born in Shelby, Ohio in 1848 and died at the Noble County Infirmary on April 16, 1929, aged 81 years. As a young man he married Lavinna Miller, who died about 47 years ago. He later married Mary Fusselman. He is survived by his wife; a foster son, Earl of Fort Wayne, for whom they have made a home since he was an infant; two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Carey of Edgerton, Ohio, and Mrs. Mary Brown of Kingsland, Ind. Nimmo William E, 74, a tireless worker for the improvement of Kendallville and Noble County community through the 60’s and 70’s died today in a Coldwater hospital. Since his retirement as district manager for northern Indiana for the Indiana & Michigan Electric Co. in 1978, he had resided at Winter Haven, Fla., and Coldwater. In 1978 he was honored by the Kendallville Chamber of Commerce as "Citizen of the Year." He was born Aug. 13, 1912 and in 1939 married Doris Shephard. He spent his early years in Michigan and joined I&M following his graduation from Tri-State University, Angola. Nimmon John T, born Noble County April 9, 1861, died Odell, Nebraska, May 2, aged 22 years and 23 days. He was a son of the late Dr. W. H. Nimmon. He was brought back to his home in Wawaka and buried by the Order of Odd Fellows May 5 at Eden Chapel. ^ 5-10-1883
Nimmon William H, who had practiced medicine in this county 39 years, died in Wawaka on the 10th of heart disease. He was born in Wayne County, Ohio in 1816. His father, John Nimmon, was of Quaker stock and moved to Crawford County when William was young. When he was about 23 he removed to this county and stopped for a short time at Rochester where his brother, "Ad" was selling goods. At the time of his death he was not only older in years but had practiced longer in this county than any other physician. He was a Whig until the party disbanded and then became an ardent Republican. He was twice married. His first wife was Mary Kuhn, with whom he only lived about 3 years when she died and was buried at Albion. Her two children were also buried there either before or soon after her death. He was married the second time to Catherine Tumbleson, daughter of James Tumbleson of the Hawpatch. Nisbet Ruth Agnes, 76, died Sunday in Kenney Health Care Center, Ligonier. She was born at Lake Charles, La., July 18, 1915, the daughter of Obert and Effie (Brames) Blaisdell. On June 20, 1949 in Golden Meadow, La., she married Thomas Boyd Nisbet. He died February 5, 1989. She was chief operator for United Telephone Co. in LaGrange until her retirement in 1965. Nisbet Thomas Boyd, 72, of rural Kendallville, died Feb. 5, 1989 in McCray Hospital. He was born in Beverly, Mass., Sept. 19, 1916, the son of Thomas H. and Grace M. (Boyd) Nisbet. On June 20, 1949 in Golden Meadow, La., he married Ruth A. Blaisdell. He moved to the Kendallville area from Bryan, Ohio in 1962. In Bryan he was mechanical superintendent at Spangler Candy Co. for years. He retired after 17 ½ years in 1980 from Reliable Tool & Machine Inc., Kendallville. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of WW II, a member of Wolcottville United Methodist Church, A. C. Arts Radio Club, Fort Wayne, 2 Meter Amateur Radio Club of Northeast Indiana and Toastmasters Club in Bryan. Nissen David Marvin, 81, of Fort Wayne, died Oct. 12, 2006 at Heritage Park Nursing Home in Fort Wayne. Niswander James E, a resident of Cheyenne for more than 26 years, died at his home Jan. 10. He is survived by his widow; a daughter Marian, 8 years old; his mother, Mary of Brimfield; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Frank Niswander and nephew, Francis E., both of Casper. He was born in Brimfield Jan. 15, 1871. He was educated in the public schools of his home community then went to the Michigan Agricultural College where he took a 4-year course. He taught school for 12 years, then came to Cheyenne. He was employed here by P. S. Cook for 26 years but last fall went to the E. S. Hawes Paint Co. He was married in Cheyenne May 9, 1909 to Mary C. Niswander Mary E, pioneer resident of Orange Twp, died at her home one-half mile west of Brimfield Sunday night from apoplexy, aged 81 years, 8 months and 11 days. She was the last member of her family circle to cross the mystic river. The only daughter of William and Hannah (Dickson) McEwen was a native of Richland County, Ohio, where she was born April 25, 1847. At the age of 7 years she came with her parents to Noble County in 1854 and settled on the farm from whence she died. With the exception of two years which she lived in Wawaka and Walkerton, she continued to reside in the vicinity of Brimfield for a period of nearly three-quarters of a century. She married Aaron J. Niswander on March 26, 1865, and he died March 11, 1911. They had two sons, Frank J. and James E., who preceded their mother in death in Cheyenne, Wyo., the former June 5, 1918, and the latter in Dec. 1927. She is survived by one grandson, Frances Emerson Niswander of Palestine, Texas; one granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Niswander. of Cheyenne, Wyo.; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Dora and Mrs. Mary C. Niswander, both of Cheyenne; one nephew, W. H. McEwen of Albion. A brother, W. A. McEwen, preceded her in death May 2 last. Nitz Erma, 96, of rural Fort Wayne, died Dec. 21, 2004 at the Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. She was born June 30, 1908 in Albion to William and Grace (Bidwell) Kettleborough. She married Harry J. Nitz in Fort Wayne on Feb. 20, 1937. He died Aug. 11, 1990. She graduated from Albion High School in 1926. She had worked for Long Distance Tire Co. in Fort Wayne and as a secretary at Allied Mills in Fort Wayne for 12 years. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Lake Twp. Nivens John Parker, 82, died March 5, 2001 at Provena Sacred Heart Home, Avilla. He owned and operated Parker Nivens Chevrolet Cadillac, now Jack De Chevrolet Cadillac on U. S. 6 in Kendallville from 1962 until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of the F&AM Lodge, Anderson, the Scottish Rite of Indianapolis, the Murat Temple of Fort Wayne and the Kendallville Elks, Eagles and Moose lodges. He was born June 7, 1918 in Hilham, Tenn., to John Isaac and Nora Ethel (Maxwell) Nivens. On September 20, 1952 in Rossville, Ga., he married Vurlin Rose Gosnell, who survives in Kendallville. He was retired and was a Seaman 2nd class cook in the U. S. Navy 1920-22. He had lived in Elwood 39 years. His wife, the former Edna Earl Vance, whom he married Aug. 18, 1928, preceded him in death. He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Elwood and was active in the Boy Scouts of America for 26 years in Elwood. Noble Ross E, 79, of Kendallville, died July 13, 2011, at Parkview Noble Hospital. He was born in Muncie on October 11, 1931, to Ross and Edna (Vance) Noble. He graduated from Elwood High School and served in the Air Force for 21 years. He married Marylin Wood on March 6, 1952, in Tipton, Indiana. He was employed with Group Dekko in Kendallville for 14 years. He started Dependable Metal Treating with his son, Ross, in 1995. DMT continues its operation today on Dowling Street in Kendallville. Noble Woodie Lee, 32, R. 2, Wolcottville, died May 12 in McCray Hospital, and his brother, Bobbie Dee, Scranton, Pa., died May 9 of an apparent drug overdose at his brother’s home. Nobles Virgil, about 68, formerly of Albion, but more recently of South Bend, died June 14, 1946, at the home of his son and daughter, Franklin and Ruth Nobles, 1127 Lake Ave. He had practiced law in South Bend for the past 25 years and previous to locating there had been a teacher in our Noble County schools and a practicing attorney in our courts. He was a member of the St. Joseph County Bar Association, the Albion Lodge No. 97, F&AM, a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rite at South Bend, the Knights of Pythias, and South Bend Elks. Nodine September 9, 1913 in Waterloo. He died March 8, 1964. She had been employed by the Nodine Restaurant in Garrett and was a member of Bethel Assembly of God. Nodine Howard E 85, of Westler Lake died January 15, 2012 at Parkview Noble Hospital. He was born in Lisbon on May 15, 1926 to Willis and Dorthea Grace (Applegate) Nodine. He graduated from Kendallville High School in 1944 and, at the age of 18, entered the United States Army. He married Helen Bloom on January 24, 1948 in Albion. He was employed with Kraft Foods in Kendallville for 45 years before retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Kendallville VFW Post #2749 and past member of the American Legion Post #86. Nodine Kathlyne M, 81, of Auburn died March 12, 2013, at Betz Nursing Home, Auburn. She was born in Green Township, Allen County, Indiana, to Otto and Cleo (Leitch) Harter. She married Richard Nodine on May 14, 1949. She worked at McCray Hospital in Kendallville for several years as a nurse’s aide. She and Dick lived in Clearwater, Florida, for 21 years before recently moving back close to home. Nodine Kenneth Edwin, 75, of Kendallville, died Thursday at the LaPorte Hospital after suffering a heart attack while buying machinery at an implement store in LaPorte. He was born in Wilmington Twp, DeKalb County, Aug. 21, 1910 to Blaine and Edith (Souder) Nodine. On Sept. 25, 1946 in Kendallville he married Margaret A. Twining. A mechanic, he moved from rural Auburn to Kendallville 39 ½ years ago. Surviving are his wife; a sister, DeEtta Buttermore of Butler; and a brother, Arthur of Hamilton. Nodine Margaret, 81, died January 4, 1992 in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. She was born in Wolcottville April 20, 1910, the daughter of Walter A. and Addie E. (Dallas) Ross. She was employed by Medical Arts Clinic in Kendallville and by Kendallville Electric Motors. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and Noble Chapter 122 OES. Her first husband, William Twining, a volunteer Kendallville fireman, was killed in the line of duty in 1944. Her second husband, Kenneth Nodine, died in 1986. Surviving are nieces and nephews. Noe Bertha Gladys, 73, R. 2, Albion, died March 26, 1986 at Whitley County Hospital from heart ailment. A native of Brown County, Ind., she was a daughter of Perry and Leora Beatty Drake Preston. She died in 1964. He then married Kathryne Gibson Huffman. A retired engineer for the B&O Railroad, he was a member of Cromwell Masonic Lodge and Willard Golden Rule Chapter 167 R.A.M. and Council No. 243, R&SM. Surviving are a son, Dallas G. Noe Jane (Braden), 53, of Kimmell ended her life Friday at her home by hanging herself. She tied a rope to an opening in the attic and stood on a high chair from which she made the death leap. She had been depressed over ill health and had threatened to take her life, relatives said. Noecker Pauline, 89, pioneer resident of Kendallville, died at the home of Frank Lisle, 121 N. Orchard St. today from hardening of the arteries and complications. She was born in Mahoning County, Ohio, July 20, 1845, the daughter of Samuel and Barbara Beight, and came to Noble County with her parents in childhood. She was one of 12 children. Surviving are 2 brothers, John and Samuel of this city; 2 grandsons and 7 great-grandchildren. She was the mother of Mrs. John Bechberger, who died about 30 years ago, and Mrs. Frank Lisle who died June 25 last. She was one of the longest continuous residents of Kendallville. Noel Joseph W, son of Joseph and Mary Ann Noel, was born at Cosperville on Oct. 2, 1851; died at Kendallville Feb. 14, 1905, aged 53 years 4 months and 12 days. He married Laura Stonebraker near Cosperville on April 6, 1873. They had 4 children, Ella, Delbert, Franklin and William, who survive. For some time he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. William Hostetter, where he died. He also leaves 2 sisters, Mrs. Katie Myers and Mrs. Martha A. Noel Pierson; a brother, John; one grandfather. Noffze George T, 65, was born July 15, 1909 in Burr Oak and married Phyllis Hoot October 20, 1935 in Immanuel Lutheran Church. He moved to Avilla in 1926 from Burr Oak, Mich., when his father, Rev. Paul Noffze, assumed pastorship at Immanuel Lutheran Church. His mother was the former Dorathea Heidbrink. He retired from General Electric in Fort Wayne Jan. 1972, having been employed there 46 years and was a member of their Quarter Century Club. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kendallville. A resident of Avilla 49 years, he died Sunday of a heart attack at his home on S. Main St. Surviving besides his wife are three daughters, Mrs. Larry (Susie) Vendrely, Gallup, N.M., Mrs. Thornton (Martha) Nichols, Powell, Ohio, and Mrs. L. She graduated from Avilla High School in the class of 1935. She married George Noffze on October 20, 1935. He died on July 6, 1975. She retired from the St. James Restaurant in Avilla after many years of service. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Avilla. Surviving are 3 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Marilynn and Duane Smith of Kendallville, Suzanne and Larry Vendrely of Sebring, Florida, and Martha Gulker of Auburn; 6 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. She married Alvin "Pete" Norden on November 14, 1969 and he died January 18, 1986. Surviving are 2 daughters and one son-in-law, Evanell and Lee Shenk of LaOtto, and Darlene Scranage of Auburn; 3 sisters, Mary Ellen Williamson of Waterloo, Betty Saccedo of Union City, Calif., and Luella Pepple of Fort Wayne; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Norris Jack R, 86, of Albion, died June 10, 2005. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Pokagon State Park and in the U.S. Army during WW II. He was a lineman for GTE for 40 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 160, the 40&8 and VFW. He raised, trained and ran Beagle trail dogs across the country. He was born in Albion to Ethel (Randall) and Ben Norris. He married Ruby Long on Nov. 29, 1947. She died in 1993. Norris William was born in the state of Ohio March 7, 1842; died at Albion, Jan. 12, 1924, aged 81 years, 10 months and five days. He was the son of William and Catherine Norris and was one of 14 children, two of whom died in infancy. Twelve of the children, 6 girls and 6 boys, grew to womanhood and manhood. All are now dead except three sisters, Mrs. Hannah Shisler, Mrs. John Whitmer and Martha E. Norris; one brother, John D. of Kansas. During the Civil War on Dec. 27, 1861, he was married to Amanda Smith. She died on Aug. 9, 1917. They had six children, one dying in infancy. North Harold T, 78, of Rome City, died February 19, 2013, at Brooksville Regional Hospital, Brooksville, Florida. He was born in LaGrange County, Indiana, on January 5, 1935, to Dale and Gladys (Reed) North. He graduated from Wolcottville High School in 1953, married Lois Fraker on August 6, 1954 in Argos, Indiana, and graduated from Marion College, now Indiana Wesleyan University, in 1957. He continued his education in ministry studies at Asbury Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky. He then went on to Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, California, and received a Master’s of Social Science in 1970. He furthered his studies at Elkhart Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary from where he obtained a Master’s of Divinity in 1988. He completed his ministerial studies at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne to received a Doctorate of Ministry in July 1997.  He was a pastor-teacher for more than 40 years. He began his pastoral ministry in 1959 in Indianapolis. He pastored for nine years in California; 12 years at the Topeka Baptist Church in Topeka, Indiana; Soloman Creek United Methodist Church near Benton, Indiana; and 7 years at Rome City United Methodist Church, Rome City. He served 8 years on the East Noble School Board and was a member of the Rome City Lions Club. Survivors include his wife; sons, David and Caroline North of Rome City and Dennis and Deborah North of Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan; daughters, Jayne and Charles Shull of Rome City and Janice and Tom Collins of Marion, Indiana; 9 grandchildren and their spouses, Jon T. Fischer on Aug. 7, 1942. She died April 2, 1997. He graduated from Rome City High School in 1954 and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville. He was employed at Essex Wire in Ligonier for 30 years and later retired from J. O. Mory in 2002. Nott Calvin, 73, Wayne Twp farmer and a native of this state died at his home near Cree Lake last Thursday. He has spent practically his entire life in farming. Nott Carolyn S, 53, died today in her Kendallville residence. She was born in Kendallville April 7, 1943 to Hubert "Doc" and Clara Bell (Heileman) Fischer. On August 6, 1961 in Kendallville she married Basil E. Nott. She was a Kendallville High School graduate and started working downtown Kendallville when 8 years old, helping her father in Fischer's Drug Store, selling turtles. For the past 15 years she had been a cashier/clerk for Northern Indiana Fuel & Light Co. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. Nowels Graydon, 72, of Kendallville died on October 21, 2013, at home. He was born in Ligonier, Indiana, on October 29, 1940, to Everett and Doris (Deardorff) Nowels. He was raised by his father and stepmother, Letha (Barhydt) Nowels. He graduated from Kendallville High School in 1959. He served his country in the U.S. Army, from 1959-1962. He also served in the U.S. Air Force National Guard in Fort Wayne from 1963-1966. He married Cheryl Anne Rice on December 11, 1965, in Kendallville. He was employed with International Harvester in Fort Wayne from 1965-1982 until his retirement from Navistar International in Springfield, Ohio, in 2000. He also worked for four years at Morr Pattern & Tool in Kendallville. Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Laura Nowels of Kendallville; 2 grandchildren, Korey Nowels and Meghan Nowels; 3 brothers, Adrian and Sonya (Jean) Nowels of Kendallville, Rick and Paula Nowels of Kendallville and Charles and Diane Rice of Syracuse. Nowels Lucinda, 72 years and 19 days, died of lung fever at her residence in Springfield May 2. She was born in Ashland County, O. April 13, 1822. In her childhood days, her parents, Joseph and Catherine Williamson, moved to Zanesville; when 11 years old to Tuscarawas County; thence to Holmes County where she married Joseph Nowels Aug. 6, 1839. In the fall of 1847 they came to Noble County with their 3 little boys and settled on a farm. Here a boy and a girl were added to their family. March 31, 1874 they moved to Wawaka and shortly after their youngest son died on the waters of Diamond Lake at the age of 21. July 30, 1883 her husband died at the age of 78 years. Oct. 13, 1885 she moved to Springfield where she resided at her death. She was a member of the M. E. Church for 45 years. After moving to Springfield she united with the Freewill Baptist Church. He farmed near Kimmell until 1932 when he retired. He was a member of Sparta United Church of Christ. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Jane Payne, Crawfordsville; a son, Nary, Kokomo; 5 grandchildren. Nulf David, 96y10m3d, son of Adam and Mary (Hepler) Nulf, was born in Armstrong County PA., on April 2, 1819; and died in Kimmell, Indiana, Feb. 5, 1916. In childhood he accompanied his parents to Belmont County, Ohio, where he married Elizabeth Sanders on March 5, 1839. They came to Noble County and located on their farm in the log cabin in the woods on Aril 1, 1845. They were the parents of 8 chldren. The eldest son, Enoch, died in 1857, aged 18 years. The remaing 7 are all living. The Nulf united with the Free Will Baptist Church in Ormas in 1850. He is survived by 7 children, Mrs. J. B. White and Mrs. William Whirledge of Kimmell, Edward Nulf of Woodville, Ind., Levi Nulf near Kimmell, Joseph Nulf of near Ormas, Mrs. M. McElhose of Chatfield, Minn., and Elmer Nulf of Geraldine, Mont. He has lived in and near Kimmell for many years. For nine years he lived in Fort Wayne where he was employed on railroad, but the greater part of his life was given to farming. They had a daughter and son. Surviving are the father, stepmother, daughter, son and one grandchild. While quite young he placed his fellowship with Sparta Christian Church. He was possessed of remarkable aptitude to follow the pursuits of carpenter work but not being of sufficient strength to permit his chosen vocation, yet he gave much to beautifying the surroundings of home. She married Nary Nulf in 1939. He died in 1974. A registered nurse, she was a graduate of Parkview Methodist School of Nursing and had worked for the Howard County Board of health. She was a member of United Commercial Travelers and Grace United Methodist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Linda K. Carey, Fort Myers, Fla.; one son, James E., Indianapolis; and 3 grandchildren. Nulf Nary, 59, was a native of Noble County, the son of Avery and Ruth Wingard Nulf. In October 1939 he married Rachel Cole. They resided in Albion until moving to Kokomo in 1949. He was an employee of the Kokomo Tribune, member of Grace United Methodist Church, York Rite Masonic Lode, Indianapolis and Masonic Lodge at Kokomo. He died Feb. 11 after minor surgery. Surviving is the wife and one son, James E., of Indianapolis; one daughter, Mrs. Patrick (Linda) Carey of Fort Myers, Fla., one granddaughter; one sister, Mrs. Jane Payne, Crawfordsville. She married Henry Null in 1869 in Ashland County, Ohio, and moved to Noble County in 1870. They had 6 children, all of whom are living except one. She leaves 2 brothers and her children. He died in 1957. She had lived in Kendallville since 1974, coming from Fort Wayne. She was a member of Waynedale United Methodist Church in Fort Wayne and an honorary and charter member of Hesperian Study Club. Nye Pearl, 82, died in a Union City, Pa. hospital early Sunday. She was the widow of the late Dr. John H. Nye, who died here in Jan. 1945. They came to Cromwell about 1900 and he opened his first office on the second floor of the Kline Bldg., maintaining living quarters in the rooms to the rear of the office for several years.
