McAdams Ruby Marie, 79, of Ligonier, died Saturday morning at her residence. She was born Oct. 6, 1903 in Wells County to William and Stella Penrod. On June 2, 1934 in Muncie she married Roy McAdams. She had moved to Ligonier in 1950 and was a licensed beautician. She was a member of the Ligonier Presbyterian Church, OES, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Surviving are her husband; her stepfather, Herbert Huth of Fort Wayne; and three sisters, Betty Alvis of Indianapolis, Helen Griswald of Fort Wayne, and Virginia Katoss of Minnesota. McAndrews Jeffery B, 29, of R. 1, Ligonier, was killed Thursday in an auto accident near Cromwell. He was born Jan. 9, 1960 in LaGrange, Ill., the son of James and Gayle (Stegman) McAndrews. He moved to Ligonier a year ago from Brookfield, Ill., and was a self-employed salesman and Marine Corps veteran. Surviving are his father and stepmother, Patricia, in Ligonier; his mother in St. Petersburg, Fla.; a sister, Heather of Ligonier; three brothers, Michael of Fort Wayne and Mark and Shawne of Ligonier; grandparents, Virginia McAndrews of Chicago, Ill., and James Carlyle of Kingman, Ariz. McArdle Elouise M, 58, died January 29 at her Fort Wayne home. She was a native of Kentucky and had lived in Fort Wayne the past 22 years. She had worked as a licensed practical nurse at Lutheran Hospital until about three months ago. Surviving are her husband, Vernon; two sons, Michael, Avilla, Kevin, Hillsdale, Mich.; five daughters, Mrs. Mary Slattery, Mrs. Colleen Carteaux and Michelle McArdle, all Fort Wayne, Mrs. Maureen Shea, Monrovia, and Mrs. Patricia Laurenz, St. Louis; three brothers and two sisters. McArdle Mary, 81, formerly of Monroeville, died Feb. 27 in the Sacred Heart Home. She was a native of Allen County and a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Monroeville. McArdle Janetta M "Jan", 59, of Avilla, died October 24, 2006 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She had been ill since September 9 with lung and kidney failure. She was born December 11, 1946 in Columbia City to Leon and Dorothy (Jones) Federspiel. She married Michael John McArdle on September 20, 1968 in Chicago, Ill. Surviving are her husband; her mother in Fort Wayne; 3 brothers, Jerry Federspiel of Aberdeen, Ky., Andy Federspiel of Fort Wayne, and Ernie Federspiel of Montgomery, Ala.; a sister, Carol Lahr of Fort Wayne; her stepfather, Dean Tinney of Fort Wayne. She was preceded in death by her father; a son, Patrick, on May 17, 1986; and a sister, Sandy Eix in 1987. She had worked for the Community State Bank in Avilla for many years. She was a graduate of North Side High School, a member of Avilla American Legion Post 240 Auxiliary, and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Albion, where services were held. McArdle Pat M, 17, Avilla, was killed Saturday in a two-vehicle accident on SR 8 in DeKalb County east of Auburn when he lost control of his car. He was born in Chicago Sept. 21, 1968, the son of Mike and Jan McArdle, Avilla. Surviving are his parents; grandparents, Dean and Dorothy Tinney and the late Leon Federspiel, Fort Wayne and Vernon and Dorothea McArdle, Fort Wayne, and the late Elouise McArdle. McArthur Kenneth Lyle, 76, of Rome City, died Wednesday in LaGrange Hospital. He was born Feb. 20, 1911 in Cassopolis, Mich., the son of Harlan and Anna (Babcok) McArthur. On Dec. 9, 1936 in Cassopolis, he married Hazel VanAllen. He was a laborer. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Betty Dunham of Three Rivers, Mich.; a son, Kenneth L. McAulay Iva A, 88, died at Sacred Heart Home, Avilla Wednesday. She was born in Emporium, Pa., May 13, 1900, the daughter of Charles and Mabel Spangler. She first married James Edward Foster, who died in 1957. On June 14, 1962, she married Allen D. McAulay, who died Feb. 27, 1974. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kendallville. Surviving are a daughter, Charlotte Foster of Kendallville; a niece, Betty Mangenel of Emporium, Pa.; a grandson, Art Maurer of Kendallville; and three great-grandchildren. McBride Cecil A, 77, a native of Eel River Twp, died in Miami, Fla. and services were conducted here March 7. McBride Charles A, about 73, a retired barber, died Dec. 24, 1959 in Whitley County Hospital. He was a native of Eel River Twp, Allen County, and had lived in Churubusco since 1908. He retired four years ago after working as a barber in Churubusco and Columbia City for many years. Surviving are the widow, Orpha; four sons, Ray H., Albion, Orval, Spurgeon and Donald of Churubusco; one daughter, Mrs. Eleanor Stureman of Albion; 10 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. McBride Evelyn L, 94, of Churubusco and formerly of LaOtto, died January 18, 2004 at University Park Nursing Center in Fort Wayne. She was born in Allen County August 1, 1909 to Calvin and Ada (Johnson) McBride. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were 5 brothers, Cecil, Forest, Laurel, Ray and Roy McBride. She retired in 1974 after 30 years of service as a candy maker at Wayne Candies in Fort Wayne. McBride Forest A, 80, died November 19 in Sacred Heart Home. He was born in Allen County June 19, 1901, the son of Calvin and Ada (Johnson) McBride. He married Myrtle Freeman March 9, 1926. She died in April 1963. He was a member of the Ari Church of God. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Dale (Betty) Sloffer, R. 3, Churubusco, Mrs. Daniel (Carol) Alspach, R. 1, Churubusco; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond, Fort Wayne, and one sister, Evelyn of LaOtto. McBride Mary E, 83, died Sept. 7, 1995 in McCray Hospital, Kendallville. She was born Oct. 18, 1911 in Noble County to Henry Guy and Ruth (Franks) Favinger. On March 28, 1933 in York Twp she married Ray H. McBride. He died Nov. 18, 1982. A registered nurse, she worked at McCray Hospital until her retirement in 1977. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Prentiss Chapter of OES and Noble County Red Cross. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ted (Martha) Smith of Wolcottville; a son, David T. of Bradenton, Fla.; a sister, Edith Sherwin of North Manchester; a brother, Bob Favinger of Radcliff, Ky.; 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Albion Masonic Lodge No. 97, Boy Scout leader, member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Albion. McBride Royal M, 68, died Sunday in Garrett Hospital. He resided at R. 3, Churubusco and had retired in 1969 from International Harvester Co. after 29 years of service. He was born Aug. 29, 1907 to Calvin and Ada Anna (Johnson) McBride in Allen County. He married Theora Lincoln in 1928, and she died in February 1973. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ted Thurston, Churubusco, Mrs. George Ditton, Columbia City, Mrs. James Allred, Huntington; two sons, Ronald, Churubusco, and Byron, Noblesville; one sister, Miss Evelyn, LaOtto; three brothers, Raymond, Fort Wayne, Forest, Churubusco, Cecil, Miami, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren. McBride Wayne J, 54, of near LaOtto, was killed instantly in a one-vehicle crash Saturday. Burial, Embry Cemetery. He was born Dec. 11, 1911 in Kendallville, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. McBride, who now live in Garrett. He was married Feb. 14, 1934 to Florence Riccius and has been employed at American Steel and Dredge in Fort Wayne. McCall Ruth died April 9, 1993 in Denver, Colorado. She was born May 17, 1897 to Melvin and Kate Smith Wysong and was a member of the 1917 graduating class of Wolf Lake High School. In 1929 she married Lewis McCall and they lived in Roseville, Mich. After her husband's death in 1978 she moved to Denver. Surviving are 2 sisters, Mary Seymoure and Cora Hill of Denver; 2 brothers, Kenneth of Crystal River, Fla., and Donald of Columbia City. McCally Juanita, 78, died Sunday in Southview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Kendallville. She was born in LaGrange County on Aug. 19, 1915 to Lester and Hazel (Dunifan) Reade. She married Sam McCally April 25, 1934 in Albion. He died Aug. 22, 1976. She was owner of McCally's Store at Skinner Lake. Surviving are her mother and a sister, Catherine Rasler of Kendallville. McCally Myrtle, 73, ended her life by walking into Skinner Lake, where they operated a store for many years, last Friday. She had been ill and despondent. She and her husband had returned from Fla. early in Jan. Services were held Monday at Burr Oak Baptist Church. Burial, Sweet Cemetery. McCally Sam, 67, died Sunday at Byron Health Center, Fort Wayne, and was operator of McCally Union 76 Station at Skinner Lake. He was born Dec. 20, 1908 in Sturgis, Mich. to Sam S. and Myrtle Steckley McCally. He married Juanita Reade, who survives, April 25, 1934 in Albion. McCally Samuel S, about 82, (b. 9-28-1883) died Sept. 17, 1965 at LaGrange County Hospital from a stroke. He was born in LaGrange County but had lived many years in Noble County and for the past number of years had operated a retail store and service station at Skinner Lake in company with his son, Samuel, who survives with three grandchildren. McCammon Grace Pearl, 88, of 3641 Hilly Lane, died Monday in Turtle Creek Nursing Home. She had lived in Elkhart since 1954, coming from Cromwell. She was born May 29, 1884 in Cromwell and married Clarence R. McCammon Oct. 30, 1909 in Albion. He died in 1944. Surviving are a son, Wilbert A. of Elkhart; two grandchildren; and a sister, Verna. Services were last week in Hartzler-Gutermuth Funeral Home. Burial, Sparta Cemetery. McCammon John Leslie "Les", 83, died Sunday in Goshen Hospital. He was born in Cromwell on Oct. 3, 1879, a son of Webster and Mary Ellen (Hontz) McCammon. He was married in 1905 to Ollie May Archer, who preceded him in death. A retired feed mill operator in Cromwell, he was a member of Cromwell Lodge No. 705 F &AM. McCammon Ned A, 79, died Tuesday in Elkhart General Hospital. He was born Nov. 24, 1913 in Cromwell to John L. and Ollie Archer McCammon. He married Eleanor J. Clark on Feb. 12, 1937 in Fort Wayne. He and his father owned and operated the J. L. McCammon & Son Feed Mill at Cromwell for many years. Recently he was employed by the Indiana Toll Road Commission, retiring in 1978. He was the founder of Noble County Little League baseball program. A graduate of Cromwell High School and International Business College in Fort Wayne, he was a member of Cromwell Lions Club and Elkhart Moose Lodge 599. Surviving are his wife; a son, L. Clark McCammon of Macomb, Ill.; a daughter, Mrs. Roger (Anna) Holdeman of Pittsburgh, Pa.; 3 grandchildren and a great-grandson. Funeral Saturday at Walley-Mills- Zimmerman Funeral Home in Elkhart. McCammon Ollie, about 77, a native and lifelong resident of the Cromwell community, died Dec. 8 at her home following a stroke. Surviving are the husband, Les; a brother, Ben Archer of Cromwell; three sisters, Mrs. Etta Schlotterback of Ligonier, Mrs. Grace McCammon of Elkhart, and Mrs. Verna McCammon of Cromwell; and two grandchildren. McCammon Ralph J, 64, was found dead at his home Jan. 10 after having been stricken with a heart attack. Death was attributed to a coronary occlusion and established at 8:30 p.m. Jan. 9. He had resided southeast of Cromwell in Washington Twp and had been a Noble County resident all of his life. He was born Oct. 4, 1898 to William and Mary Ellen (Hontz) McCammon. He was a semi-retired farmer and a past member of the Odd Fellows Lodge at Etna. Surviving are a brother, John Leslie of Cromwell, and several nieces and nephews. McCartney Christine C, 59, Garrett, died Tuesday at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne. She was born December 22, 1922 in Denver, Colo., the daughter of Herbert and Christine (Stieger) Mackey. She married Lester McCartney June 1, 1949 in Searcy, Ark. She was an RN at McCray Hospital and had been in nursing for 30 years. Surviving are her husband and mother; two sons, James W. of Ypsilanti, Mich., and William of Bellingham, Wash.; one daughter, Christine, Fort Wayne; two brothers, Henry, Columbia City, and David, Whittier, Calif.; and one sister, Mrs. Dean (Luthisha) Snyder of Monroeville; and three grandchildren. McCartney David of Avilla was found dead in an outbuilding on his premises, heart disease no doubt. His 2 sons were absent, one in Ohio and the other in Kansas City, Mo. Funeral was at the Avilla M. E. Church on Wednesday and burial was made in the cemetery there. ^ 10-14-1887 He was born in Bedford County, Penn. Feb. 9, 1817; and died in Avilla Oct. 10, 1887, aged 70 years, 8 months, 1 day. He was married in 1840 to Margaret A. McKimm, who survives. They had 4 boys and 5 girls. One son and 2 daughters preceded him in death. In 1853 they moved to Swan Twp and have been continuous residents of this vicinity since. Eccentric at times, but never harsh, there beat in his bosom a heart kind and sympathetic. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and an indefatigable Sunday School worker. * 1887
McCartney Emma (Mrs. Enlow) died at her home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She has been a sufferer from consumption, and leaves a husband and five children. She was known in Avilla, her former home. Mr. M. A. McCartney left at once for Cedar Rapids. ~ 2-18-1897
McCartney Lauren E, former cashier of the Noble County Bank & Trust Co., was found in Bixler Lake at Kendallville Wednesday. The body was discovered after a letter written to Mr. Erwin, an undertaker, had been received in the morning mail. McCartney had supposedly gone to Fort Wayne Tuesday evening, where he mailed the letter that informed the undertaker where to find his body. He had tied a clothes line rope around the spring board at the bathing beach of the lake and around his body. He was wearing a rain coat and hat when found. He is survived by a wife and two sons. + 4-?-1931
McCartney Margaret, 86, died at the home of her son, E. D. McCartney, in Cedar Rapids, Ia. Aug. 5, 1904. Funeral was held last Saturday at the residence of Robert Strouse of Avilla and interment was in Avilla Cemetery. She was born in Lancaster County, Penn. May 19, 1818. In 1837 she married David R. McCartney and with him came to make a home near Avilla, then the new west. He died in 1887, and for the past 10 years she made her home with her son, E. D. She is survived by 3 sons, William of Kendallville, James of Indianapolis, and E. D. of Cedar Rapids, and 3 daughters, Mrs. Robert Strouse of Avilla, Mrs. Thompson of Alexandria,and Mrs. Gump of Churubusco, Ind. ^ 8-12-1904

She was a teacher in the Elkhart Twp schools for many years and was later employed as a clerk in the NYC freight house and ticket office in Kendallville. McCarty Evelyn Rose, 73, R. 1, LaGrange, died Sunday in LaGrange Hospital. The family formerly lived in Brimfield and Rome City and Lowell. Daughter of Amos and Amanda Friend Kepford, she was born Oct. 4, 1909. She married Francis McCarty July 23, 1931 in Brimfield. She attended Manchester College and had taught school before her marriage and in later years. She had recently been a substitute in the Lakeland Corporation. She belonged to Beta Nu Chapter Psi Iota Xi and was a member of Merriam Christian Chapel. She married Virgil McCarty on Feb. 25, 1944 in Adrian, Mich. He died Jan. 20, 1999. McCarty William A, 91, retired Methodist minister, died Friday at his home in Brimfield. He was born in a little cottage which was located on what is now the public square where now stands the court house of Blackford County on April 14, 1861, the son of Rev. W. E. and Henrietta Frash McCarty. On June 28, 1883 he married Mary L. Bliss of Brimfield, Ind. They had three children; one son and the daughter preceded him in death. His wife died Nov. 27, 1916. He was a member of the Methodist Church of Brimfield and the Odd Fellows Lodge at Kendallville. Surviving are a son, Frank; 4 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. McClanahan Bob, 52, of Olathe, Colo., died Dec. 1, 2010, after a year-long battle with brain cancer. He had a variety of skills, he was a hunting guide, carpenter, and a surveyor of mining claims. McClellan Michael P, 50, of Columbia City, died July 27, 2010 at his residence. Born June 22, 1960 in Auburn, he was the son of Alphias and Martha (Dewitt) McClellan. He graduated from Auburn High School with the Class of 1978. On May 3, 1996, he married Glenda S. Wooten in Albion. Most recently he worked at Busche Inc., Albion, having also worked at Snax N' Pax and Kautextron in Avilla. Survivors include his wife, Glenda S. McClellan Raymond S, 88, of Kendallville, died Aug. 17, 2006 at Kendallville Manor health care center. He was a bricklayer and mason for Demaree Construction in Albion and a member of Kendallville Church of Christ. He was born in Elkhart on Oct. 28, 1917 to Levi and Mary (Shult) McClellan. He married Lucille M. Gillespie in Auburn on May 9, 1938. She died on April 20, 1999. Surviving are 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Lola and Gary Meeder of Pottersville, Mich., and Teil and Rick Neff of Wolcottville; 3 sons and 2 daughters-in-law, Larry and Emma of Topeka, David and Thelma, and Frank of Kendallville; and a sister, Dorothy Powers of Kendallville. McClellan Ruby Alice, about 89, of R. 2, Albion, died March 26, 1970 at Farris Nursing Home at Columbia City. She was born Sept. 20, 1880, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen (Sarah Barnett) Hardy. In 1900 she married Lewis McClellan, who died Sept. 13, 1955. She had been a resident of the Albion community since 1944 and was a member of the Blue River Church of the Brethren. McClellan Ruth D, 83, of Auburn, died February 13, 2011, at DeKalb Hospital. She was born in Kendallville on August 25, 1927, to Robert G. and Elsie May (Newman) Strater. She graduated from Kendallville High School in 1946. She married DeWayne C. McClellan on June 2, 1951, in Angola. He died May 23, 2007. She was the cafeteria manager for DeKalb Central Schools for 18 years, retiring in 1994. She was a member of the Cedar Lake Church of Christ in Waterloo. Survivors include a son, Dennis and Jane McClellan of Rome City; 3 daughters, Delores and Chad Kilgore of Auburn, Delsie and Keith Harmes of Waterloo and Deanna and John Mohre of Auburn; a second son, Bob Kessler of Auburn; nine grandchildren, Amber McClellan, Quartz McClellan, Berell McClellan, Danelle Yarian, Jennifer Hathaway, Tonia Haskins, Dustin Harmes, Justin Harmes and Spencer Mohre; seven great-grandchildren, Johnathan Sewell, Iris Sewell, Caleigh Yarian, Keagen Yarian, Weber Yarian, Ella Hathaway and Jayde Haskins; and one brother, Robert and Marie Strater of Kendallville. McClellan Sarah was born in Greene County, Penn., Sept. 19, 1803. She removed to Athens County, Ohio in 1851, where she became a member of the Christian Church. In 1865 she came with her family to Kansas, where she lived until her death. She died at the residence of her son, John A., in Willis, Brown County, Kansas, Jan. 7, 1892 of la grippe, aged 88 years 3 months and 18 days. McClelland Jane, wife of William McClelland, died at her residence in Cromwell Feb. 8, 1875 of typhoid pneumonia, aged 49 years and 4 months. She was born in Virginia and removed to Guernsey County, Ohio in 1828, where she was married to William McClelland in 1852. They removed to Noble County and settled in Albion. From here they removed to a farm in York Twp where Mr. McClelland combined the occupations of farmer and gunsmith until last fall when they went to Cromwell where he once more engaged exclusively in his trade. McConnell George Washington died last Sunday. He was born in Morgan County, Ohio, March 10, 1822, his father, Alexander, being one of the leading citizens of that county. In 1849 he went to Calif. where he remained 3 years working in the gold mines. In 1853 he became a resident of Noble County, 3 years later joining his fortunes with those of Miss Cornelia Egbert. In 1857 they returned to Ohio where they remained until 1860 when they again took up their residence in this township. For a number of years he was manager and proprietor of the Rochester Mills but later gave all of his attention to the management of his farm near Rochester. In 1890 he removed to this city where he resided up to the time of his death. + No date

He was born Jan. 20, 1808 in Muskingum County, Ohio, and came with his family to the Hawpatch in the spring of 1832, the second family to settle there. He married Elizabeth Shoup in 1838, who died Sept. 24, 1874, leaving two sons, Thomas who resides at Ligonier, and William who died Sept. 28, 1874. He married twice later and his last wife died about 2 years ago. One of his brothers, William, who resides in Wis. is the last of the family left. His father, William, died April 15, 1848 at the age of 67, and his mother, Agnes, died Aug. 23, 1851 at the age of 66 years. McConnell James Lawrence, 80, R. 1, Rome City, died Wednesday in Bluffton Clinic. He was born Sept. 6, 1891 at Convoy, Ohio, and had lived in Rome City since 1960, moving from Fort Wayne. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William R. McConnell. In 1914 he was married to Nora P. Finkhousen in Convoy. A retired engineer on the old Nickel Plate Railroad, now the Norwalk & Western, he was a member of Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, and of Jehovah Witnesses. Surviving are the widow; a son, Carl, Fort Wayne; two daughters, Mrs. F. L. Roe, Indianapolis, and Mrs. Dena Preston, Burr Oak, Mich.; two brothers, F. W., Van Wert, Ohio, and V. McConnell Jack D, 87, of Green Township died Oct. 21, 2013, at the home of his son in Green Township. He was a farmer and operated McConnell Construction for many years, retiring in 1988. He had also served as a school bus driver for Smith-Green Community Schools for 38 years. He was a 1944 graduate of Churubusco High School and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was born on April 5, 1926, in Green Township to Isaac W. and Oma (Diffendarfer) McConnell. He married Rosemary Kocher on Sept. 26, 1948, in California. His first wife preceded him in death on March 28, 2002. He was later married at Ormas on July 6, 2004 to Charlotte (Johnson) Duncan. Surviving are his wife; children, David R. (Karen) McConnell of Churubusco, Jerry L. McConnell John B, 69, Alamo, Tex., formerly of Huntertown, died July 31, at Kosciusko Community Hospital after suffering a heart attack. He was born in Kendallville Dec. 28, 1907 and married Beulah Wyatt May 19, 1934. He was a retired construction worker and electrician. He moved to Texas two years ago from Huntertown. McCord Howard B, 60, of Auburn, died at Lakeside Hospital, Kendallville, Thursday shortly after his automobile crashed into a G R & I passenger train at a crossing on the Toledo-Chicago pike one mile south of Kendallville. He had been used to driving another kind of car and was not accustomed to the foot appliance of the Ford sedan. It is believed that he failed to see the approaching train until at the crossing and that he stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake. He was a druggist at Auburn until several years ago. McCord Matilda died Sunday in Lakeside Hospital, Kendallville, as the result of an auto accident at Skinner Lake. She had spent the day with her daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Eagles, and granddaughter, Gloria, at Albion and was riding back to her home at Auburn when the accident occurred by the collision of the car driven by R. C. Dilgard and a Mr. Magnuson. Neither car was badly damaged as both cars were moving slowly and at first it was thought no one was seriously hurt. Later she was taken to the hospital and died upon entry to the hospital. She is survived also by a son, Victor of California. + 4-?-1938
McCord Sherlie is dead. His untimely end came early Tuesday in the Ligonier "jungles" where passing Knights of the Road gather. In cold medical terminology his death was due to acute alcoholism. In one of the pockets of the dead man was an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army Medical Corps. Twenty-five years ago he was somebody. His body was taken to the Kerr Funeral Home and through the good offices of the Ligonier post of the American Legion was given decent burial Thursday. Thus ends the saga of "just another bum". * 1941

He served in the National Guard and was a coal miner in W. Va. before moving to Fort Wayne in 1926, where he was employed as a union carpenter for 10 years, retiring in 1972 due to poor health. McCoy Arthur, about 73, a retired erection engineer, died at his home at 900 S. Superior St., Fort Wayne, June 5, 1966. He was born in Churubusco June 24, 1892, the son of James and Naomi Parker McCoy. In November he married Vada I. Reynolds, at Kimmell. They farmed in Noble County until he took employment in bakeries in Albion and Ligonier. Being interested in baking equipment, he came to Albion and had employment with the Union Steel Products Co. in March 1928. His family moved to Albion in Sept. of the same year. He constructed bakery equipment in almost every state in the Union, as well as in New Brunswick and Mexico. During the war years, he was employed as a supervisor in Dept. No. 13 of Union Steel, retiring in Oct. 1957. He was a member of the First Methodist Church. McCoy Chauncey, 88, Albion, died September 23 in McCray Hospital. He was born in Green Twp June 24, 1894, the son of Theodore and Carrie (Henry) McCoy. On October 8, 1919 he married Virgie DeHoff. A retired farmer, he had lived in Green Twp until moving to Albion eight years ago. Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Charles (Phyllis) Macy, Churubusco, Mrs. Thomas (Ruth) Motter, Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Jack (Norma) Griebel, Fort Wayne; a son, Donald E., R. 1, Avilla; 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. McCoy Clara, 71, died Sunday in McCray Hospital, Kendallville. She had lived in the Avilla area 60 years and had been employed as a housekeeper at Glen Oaks Nursing Home in Auburn. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, the auxiliary of Sacred Heart Home, Avilla BPW and a Red Cross volunteer. She was born in Tennessee Dec. 3, 1908, a daughter of Martin and Sarah (Klopfenstein) Buehrer. She married Wilbert McCoy June 29, 1928. He preceded her in death. McCoy Cloyd F, 73, Harper Lake, died Aug. 5, 1989 in the Kendallville Nursing Home. He was born Sept. 2, 1915 in Van Wert, Ohio, the son of Russell and Bertha (Meyer) McCoy. On Aug. 19, 1983 in Wadsworth, Ohio, he married Patricia Bixler. He moved to Harper Lake, Kimmell, from Ohio in 1986. He was retired as a tool room inspector with Conval Inc., Wadsworth, Ohio, and a member of the Wadsworth Eagles Lodge. McCoy Cora, 34, wife of Orlo McCoy died at her home six miles north of Churubusco on Thursday of last week. Her death was caused from cancer and complications. She is survived by the husband and one son, father and mother, two brothers and one sister. The funeral was held on Sunday from the Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Swan Twp, of which she was a member. Burial occurred in the cemetery adjacent to the church. The funeral was one of the largest ever held at the Hopewell Church. The daughter of Frank and Amanda Cooley, she was born in Swan Twp September 24, 1896. She grew to womanhood in her home in Swan Twp, attending the public school, graduating from the high school of LaOtto in 1916. August the 19th of this same year she married Orlo McCoy of Green Twp. She died September 18, 1930, at her home in Green Twp. One sister Maggie and one brother Merritt preceded her in death. McCoy Danny Vearl, 37, died Feb. 7, 1995 at St. Lukes-Roosevelt Hospital, New York, due to an AIDS-related syndrome. He was born Jan. 18, 1958 in Goshen to Vearl E. and Phyllis (Strouse) McCoy. He was a freelance actor, singer and dancer and a 1980 graduate of Butler University, Indianapolis. He had performed leading roles in many Broadway shows. McCoy Elza, 85, formerly of Green Twp, died July 12 at Shepherd of the Hill nursing home in Kendallville. He was born in Noble County on April 20, 1913, a son of Thomas and Mamie (Maggart) McCoy. He was married Feb. 22, 1935 near Merriam to Charlotte Shively. She died in 1966. He was a dairy farmer, owning his own dairy farm. He spent his entire life in Noble County and was a member of Blue River Church of the Brethren. McCoy Guy R, 107, of Avilla, died Dec. 7, 2005 at Provena Sacred Heart Home in Avilla. He had worked at the former Harrold Chevrolet, McCoy's Hatchery, McCoy Lumber and Geiger Implement in Churubusco and had worked as a self-employed auto mechanic. He was a member of Churubusco United Methodist Church. He told those attending his 107th birthday celebration that he attributed his long life to clean living. "I never smoked or drank or cussed," he said, "and I went to church and Sunday School every week." He was born May 18, 1898 in a log cabin in Green Twp, Noble County, to Samuel Leslie and Nancy Ellen (Russell) McCoy. He married Maxie E. Beavers on Oct. 21, 1922. She died Aug. 22, 1985. McCoy Harold O, 86, died Thursday at The Oaks in Columbia City. He and his father founded McCoy's Feeds Inc. and the McCoy Lumber Co. in Churubusco. In 1956 they sold the feed mill and closed the lumber company. They then built the former Churubusco Super-Valu, the Laundromat and Family Restaurant on the site of the lumber company. He and his son, Jerry, owned McCoy Realty in Churubusco for several years. He was a member of Churubusco United Methodist Church, Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, Volunteer Fire Dept. and Fort Wayne Air Stream Travel Club. He had served as a director and stockholder of the Churubusco State Bank. He was born in Noble Co. April 28, 1917, the son of Orlo and Cora Naomi (Cooley) McCoy. He graduated from Churubusco High School in 1935. On June 26, 1938 he married Sylvelda Egolf. She died Sept. 21, 1993. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Beverly of Winona Lake; a daughter and son-in-law, Coreen and Fred Gilbert of Fort Wayne; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. McCoy Jesse Albert, 44, farmer of this county, died May 10 at the Huntington Hospital from injuries received two weeks ago when the truck he was driving was struck by a train at Huntington. His companion, A. J. Winebrenner, was killed instantly. Mr. McCoy had rallied slightly last week but an abscess formed near the lung and death resulted. He is survived by his widow, Chloe (Budd); two sons, Donald and James; a daughter, Marjorie; one brother, Frank of Albion; one sister, Mrs. Grover Aungst of Kendallville; and his father, James of Albion. McCoy John Milo, 90, (b. 10-15-1867 - d. 12-8-1957) a retired farmer and a native and lifelong resident of Noble County, was found dead Sunday in the basement of his home in Green Twp, R. 1, Avilla, by a daughter, Mrs. Orpha Snell, Jefferson Twp. He apparently had suffered a fatal heart attack Sunday morning after going to the basement to check his fire. Surviving in addition to the daughter are two sons, Lawrence, Ft. McCoy Mabel M, 92, of Albion, died Sept. 7, 2006 at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne. She had worked for Ben Franklin, Haffner and Dollar General stores. She was born June 16, 1914 in Whitley County to Grover and Estella Mae (Shively) Jagger. On July 6, 1932 in Albion she married Carl McCoy. He died in 1990. She was a member of Blue River Church of the Brethren. She was born in White County Dec. 2, 1889 to Lawson and Nora Alexander Maggert, and she was married Jan. 28, 1912. A housewife, she was a member of Green Center United Methodist Church. Survivors are two sons, Elza of R. 1, Avilla, and Leland of R. 1, LaOtto; two daughters, Mrs. John Friskney of R. 3, Wolcottville, and Mrs. Lauren Weaver of Avilla; 15 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. McCoy Marion "Mac" W, 77, of Charleston died March 16, 2013.  He was an ordained minister with the Presbyterian Church.  He had served as the associate pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Warren, Pa., and was staff chaplain and assistant supervisor with the Medical College of Virginia.  He had also served as the director of pastoral care at Southside Hospital in Bayshore, N.Y., and retired as pastor of the Valley Stream Presbyterian Church in New York.  He served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years, with duty in DaNang, Vietnam.  He was born June 18, 1935, in Noble County to Wilbert and Clara (Buehrer) McCoy.  He is survived by his wife, Sara McCoy of Charleston, S.C.; his daughters, Elizabeth McCoy of Framingham, Maine, and Rebecca McCoy and her husband, Mark Merriner of Mathews, Va.; his son, Edward McCoy of Charleston; and his sisters, Anna Watson of Avilla, and Dorothy Schultz of Fort Wayne.  He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Maurice McCoy of West Lafayette.  A memorial service will be held  April 20, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Charleston.  ^ 3-28-2013
McCoy Maurice J, 61, of W. Lafayette, died Feb. 25 in St. Elizabeth Medical Center emergency room in Lafayette. He was born in Avilla June 18, 1935 to Wilbert and Clara (Buehrer) McCoy. On July 28, 1952 in Lafayette he married Jean A. Lathrope. He had lived in West Lafayette 25 years, moving from Hillsdale, Mich. He was sales manager for Best Windows and Doors in Lafayette. He was assistant Boy Scout master of Troop 338 and a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. Surviving are his wife; 5 sons, Douglas of Gurnee, Ill., Stephen of Broad Ripple, Robert of Ann Arbor, Mich., Michael of Lafayette, and Richard of Bloomington; 2 sisters, Mrs. P. R. McCoy Mildred L Johnson, 63, R. 1, Avilla, died Tuesday in Miller’s Merry Manor at LaGrange. She was born in Andrews May 23, 1918, the daughter of Victor and Lucille (Rudig) Sharp. She and Robert F. Johnson, who died in September 1964, were married March 10, 1937. She married Elza McCoy February 12, 1969. Surviving with her husband are one daughter, Mrs. Gregg (Pam) Parker, Wolcottville; two sons, Craig Johnson, Avilla, and Terry Johnson of Fort Wayne; two stepsons, Paul McCoy, Columbia City and Philip McCoy of LaOtto; seven grandchildren and nine step-grandchildren; two sisters, Phyllis Reidel, Fort Wayne, and Beverly Feichter of Kirkland, Washington. One stepdaughter, Carol Hovarter, preceded her in death. She had lived in the community since 1956 and was a member of the Blue River Church of the Brethren where services will be conducted Saturday. She retired from Tokheim in Albion after 7 years and had worked at Haffner's Variety Store in Kendallville for 13 years. She was born in Fort Wayne on Sept. 25, 1920 to Alva J. and Alice Anna (Moore) Bryant. She married Gerald A. McCoy on Oct. 20, 1939 in Fort Wayne. He died in Feb. 1988. McCoy Phyllis J, 84, of Wolf Lake, died Oct. 19, 2011, at her home. She had resided in Noble and Elkhart counties until moving to New Mexico in 1988. She returned to Wolf Lake in 1997. She was a 1945 graduate of Wolf Lake High School. She was born July 16, 1927, in Noble County to Orville J. and Lottie (Walburn) Strouse. She married Vearl E. McCoy on Oct. 18, 1947. Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Deidre Berkopes of Flat Rock; and a granddaughter.  She was preceded in death by her son, Danny Vearl McCoy. McCoy Ralph, 54, an Albion area resident for 50 years, died Saturday in his home, R. 4, Albion. Cause of death was listed as a heart attack. Born in Kendallville September 8, 1911, he was the son of Frank and Nona Smith McCoy. On March 30, 1935, he married Freida Gaerte, who survives. A member of Blue River Church of the Brethren, south of Merriam, he was a farmer and at one time worked for the county highway department. McCoy Raymond J "Gene", 62, died unexpectedly Oct. 21, 1911 at his Green Twp residence due to an apparent heart attack. He was born in Green Twp on August 19, 1929, a son of Alva and Ethel Mae Pippenger McCoy. He married Ruby Gibson in Noble County on Sept. 3, 1949. He was employed as a railroad worker in Garrett and retired from Asbury Foundry in Auburn this past August after 26 years. He also farmed in Green Twp. He was married to Waunieta Walt, who survives. Except for two years immediately following their marriage, they resided in Noble County. A graduate of Huntertown High School, he worked in the International Harvester Co. engineering department for 25 years. He was a member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church where he served as elder, the Masonic Lodge at Huntertown, and Avilla American Legion Post No. 240. An Army veteran of WW II, he had served in Austria. On September 3, 1949, she was married in Noble County to Raymond J. “Gene” McCoy. He died Oct. 21, 1991. She left Kendallville in 1940, moving to Chicago. She had been a buyer for Marshall Field & Co. department store and was also a self-employed businesswoman dealing in stocks and bonds since 1950. She was born in Albion on Aug. 27, 1890, the daughter of Orley H. and Clara (Miles) Reynolds. After graduating from the Albion High School in 1910, she attended Tri-State College in Angola. For four years she taught in the public schools of Noble County prior to her marriage on Nov. 18, 1915 to Arthur McCoy of Kimmell. She was a member of the Albion Women’s Club, the First United Methodist Church and Senior Citizens group, all of Albion, Michigan. McCoy Vianna Murray (Irons) was born April 18, 1847 in Beaver County, Pa., where she grew to womanhood. She came to Noble County, in 1866 where she married Isaac McCoy on Jan. 8, 1867. They had, four boys and three girls; and these, with five stepchildren completed the family circle. Her husband died Sept. 15, 1891, leaving her alone to care for the large family. Three children, Mrs. Maggie Henry, Mrs. Sarah Diffendarfer and Theodore McCoy preceded their mother in death. At the age of 14 she became a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Scottsville, Pa. In 1868 shortly after coming to Indiana, she united with the Hopewell Presbyterian Church by letter. She remained a faithful consistent member of this church for 48 years. She died Aug. 31, 1916 at the age of 69 years, four months and 13 days. Two sisters, Mrs. Harriet McCoy of this neighborhood and Mrs. Lizzie Smith of Beaver County, Pa.; six children, John, Joseph, Robert and Thomas McCoy, Mrs. Matilda Geiger and Della Shambaugh; three stepchildren, James McCoy, Mrs. Mary Crothers and Mrs. Lettie Owen; 62 grandchildren remain. McCoy William C, 82, died Friday at McCray Hospital. He had lived for 44 years at 424 N. Park Ave., Kendallville. He was born in Miller City, Ohio, on Feb. 12, 1895, a son of William and Barbara McCoy. On Dec. 2, 1932 he married Alice R. Werner at the St. Michaels Church just north of Waterloo. McCoy William G, 75, of Albion, died April 28, 2012, at Avalon Village in Ligonier. He was born on Feb. 27, 1937, on the family farm southwest of Albion, to James Ralph and Freida L. (Gaerte) McCoy. He graduated from Albion-Jefferson High School in 1955. He was a dairy farmer in York Township for much of his life, and had also worked at Monsanto and later at Maple Leaf Farms. On April 17, 1970 he married Daisy M. Clouse. She died June 7, 1998. Surviving are two brothers, James R. (Linda) McCoy and John (Donna) McCoy, both of Albion; two sisters Janice M. McCoy William T, farmer residing north of Churubusco in Noble County, received fatal injuries near the sinkhole on the road north of Churubusco Tuesday when he leaped as his team was running away with a heavily loaded wagon down grade. He became caught in the lines and was dragged several feet and finally under the wheels of his wagon. He died a few minutes later in the home of Dan Fulk. He leaves an aged father, John, who lived with him; 2 sons; and 4 brothers, Leslie of Smith Twp, George of Fort Wayne, and Isaac and Charles of Noble County. * 10-16-1917
McCray Amanda (Reynolds) of Kendallville whose family has been identified for many years with the material growth and prosperity of this community, died Monday at her home on Water St. She had lived in Ohio and in 1857 she married Hiram McCray, a native of Va. They had five children, Homer, Elmer E., John, Cora and Lena. In 1868 they removed to Kendallville where he engaged in the produce business, which developed eventually into the refrigerator manufacturing business, now one of the leading industries of Kendallville. He died Oct. 3, 1888. She is survived by her three sons, Elmer E. and Homer of this city, John of Iowa; and her two daughters, Mrs. J. T. Stahl and Mrs. H. H. Macomber of this city; besides a number of grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church. Funeral Thursday from the residence. Burial, Lake View Cemetery. + 5-13-1912

McCray Elmer E, 72, refrigerator manufacturer and philanthropist of Kendallville, died of a heart attack Dec. 30 at his winter home in Atlanta, Ga. Funeral was held Sunday. Burial, Lake View Cemetery. Attending the last rites of their employer, more than 300 workmen marched in a body to the home Sunday to view the remains and hear the parting sermon. He was held in high esteem for his philanthropy and ideal citizenship. Among his gifts to the community were large cash donations to the Lakeside Hospital and a $3000 building last year to the fairgrounds for use of 4-H Clubs. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Lena McCray; a daughter, Mrs. Sarah Candler, Atlanta, Ga.; a brother, Homer; and two sisters, Mrs. Cora Stahl and Mrs. H. H. Macomber. + 12-?-1937
McCray Hannah, 87, a pioneer of Noble County and one of the early settlers of this community, died at her home in Rome City Tuesday. She has been a resident of Rome City for more than 50 years. Her death was due to the infirmities of old age. Her husband died some years ago and she has been making her home with her only child, a son, William, who survives. Funeral from the M. E. McCray Hiram died Tuesday. He was born in Licking County, Ohio in 1833. He came to Kendallville in 1868 and engaged in the business of butter and egg packing, with which and other business interests he has been successfully engaged since. In 1857 he married Amanda Reynolds, who survives. He is the father of five, children, Homer, Elmer, John, Cora and Lena, all living and present at his bedside through his illness. He served two terms in the common council of Kendallville and two years in the state legislature as representative. McCray Homer, 82, vice president of the McCray Refrigerator Co. at Kendallville for many years, and chairman of the board of directors since the death in 1937 of his brother, E. E., died Thursday of heart disease and complications. A pioneer resident the name McCray was symbolic with the rapid strides and growth of Kendallville. McCray had been associated with the Refrigerator Co. since 1892 and in the interim has seen the products of the company shipped to almost every country in the world. McCray Lena Willett was born at Lima, Ind. in 1861. Her life previous to her marriage was spent at her birthplace and at Kendallville. She was married in 1886 to John McCray and since her marriage had lived in Chicago. McCray Stella Amanda (Harris) was born in Union City, Ind. April 18, 1869. She was the oldest of five daughters. Her life was spent in her native city. She graduated in 1889 from the high school. She was married Nov. 8, 1894 to Elmer McCray. She united with the Presbyterian Church here March 1896. She died May 29, 1896. He had lived in Kendallville 20 years, moving to Fort Wayne 32 years ago. He was a retired custodian with Fort Wayne Community Schools where he had worked 19 years. McCreery A June, 79, died Feb. 11, 2001 at Parkview Noble Hospital. She was born in LaPorte on June 17, 1921 to Welcome Willard and Engla Christina (Erickson) Short. On Oct. 28, 1950 she married Milton Hall McCreery in Fort Wayne. He died in 1987. She was a member of Green Chapel Redeemed Church and was a nurse's aide at McCray Hospital, retiring in 1983 after 23 years. On Oct. 28, 1950 in Fort Wayne he married June Short. He was a retired security guard at Newnam Foundry and was a member of the Moose Lodge. McCuen Bertha Devere, 83, died at Kenney Retirement Community Ligonier. Born Dec. 19, 1902 in Kosciusko County, she was the daughter of William O. and Minnie Edna (Yeager) Lutes. In Kosciusko County she married Willard M. McCuen who died April 28, 1981. She moved from Nappanee to Plymouth in 1948 and lived there until moving to Ligonier in 1981. She and her husband had a young people’s orchestra that performed for various churches 1940-55. Surviving are a foster son, Richard E. Howard of Ligonier; five sisters, Evelyn Gall of Ligonier, Marjorie Lutes, Mary Hepler, Nellie Sechrist and Helen Miller of Nappanee; and four brothers, Everett of Elkhart, and Delbert, Herman and Clifford of Nappanee. McCullick Vern, about 75, died March 6, 1967 in his office in his garage at 4711 Lillie St., Fort Wayne, a victim of a heart attack. He was born Feb. 14, 1892 in LaGrange County near South Milford, the son of Albert and Barbara Ann Englert McCullick. He lived in South Milford until about 9 years ago when he moved to Fort Wayne. He retired ten years ago from McCray’s where he had been an accountant for over 34 years. He was a member of the Fort Wayne Amora Club, the Kendallville IOOF Lodge, the 20-year club at McCray’s, the Mitchell Street Methodist Church, Coliseum Lions Club and formerly a member of the Kendallville Lions Club. Surviving are his wife, Gertrude; two daughters, Mrs. Beverly Noe of Defiance, Ohio, and Mrs. James Curtis of Albion; one stepson, Ray W. On July 11, 1954 in Wolf Lake she married Donald E. McCullough. She was a bookkeeper and receptionist for Albion New Era and helped her husband with custodial work until 1994. She was a member of Wolf Lake Seventh Day Adventist Church. Surviving are her parents; her husband; 2 daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Sharon) Wagner of Watervliet, Mich., and Holly McCullough of Kendallville; a son, Edward of McDonald, Tenn.; and 4 grandchildren, Benjamin, James and Sarah Wagner and Kimberly McCullough. McCullough Marian E, 92, formerly of Churubusco, died May 28, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Columbia City. She was born Dec. 14, 1893 in Noble County, the daughter of Isaac and Ella (Workman) Rosenogle. In 1918 she married John McCullough, who preceded her in death May 13, 1963. They lived in the Churubusco area. She was a cook for many years at the Green Grill and was a member of American Legion Post 157. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On June 11, 1954, he married Judith Hire in Churubusco. He retired from Dana Corporation with over 42 years of service.
