Marhenke Benjamin H, 75, of Hoagland, died Tuesday in Parkview Hospital. An Adams County native, he had lived most of his life in the Hoagland area. He retired in 1972 from International Harvester after 42 years. Surviving are a daughter, Lynne McEllhiney of Princeton; a son, Rev. Larry of Dallas, Texas; five sisters, Alvina Schroeder, Ruth Kleinschmidt and Ida McFarland, all of Fort Wayne, Leone Crist of Kendallville, and Irene Warner of Rochester; two brothers, Robert and Louis of Fort Wayne; and 8 grandchildren. Marin Angelica, 4 months, died Friday in the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich. She was born in Goshen on Feb. 1, 1996 to Juan and Martha (Macias) Marin. Surviving are her parents in Ligonier; 3 sisters, Vannesa, AnaRosa and Aracelia; grandparents, Modesta Quezada and Cevero and Luz Maria Macias of Aguascalientes, Mexico. Mark Cecil, 80, was born March 30, 1895 to Oviatt and Littie (Newman) Mark in Edon, Ohio. He was a 30-year employee of the Auburn Cord Factory, a WW I veteran, a member of the Auburn Methodist Church, American Legion and Moose Lodge. A lifetime Auburn and Snow Lake resident, he died Friday at McCray Hospital in Kendallville. Survivors include the wife, Nora (Shaffer) Mark; one daughter, Mrs. Sanford Condon, 404 W. 7th St., Auburn; three sons, Donald and Robert, both from Avilla, and Kenton, Coldwater, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs. Opal Cary, Auburn, and Lucile Mark. Mark Donald E, 79, Avilla, died August 28, 2001. The pattern maker for Diversified Pattern and Mark Brothers Pattern lived in the Avilla community since 1950. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps in WW II and a member of Avilla American Legion Post 240, the 5th bombardment group, and Avilla Masonic Lodge 460. He was a member of the Avilla Fire Dept. 27 years. He was born July 30, 1922 in Auburn to Cecil and Nora (Shaffer) Mark. On December 6, 1945 at the Chapel in Angola, he married W. June Fanning who died February 11. A sister, Jane Condon, also preceded him in death. Surviving are a son, Stanley of Angola; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jerry Becker of Kendallville; 2 brothers, Robert of Avilla and Kenton of Kinderhook, Mich.; and 4 grandchildren, Kevin Becker and his wife, Julie, Anthony Becker and his wife, Lydie, Drew Mark and Carrie Huelsenbeck and her husband, Joe. Mark Robert W, 87, of Avilla, died Sept. 26, 2008 at Provena Sacred Heart Home. He owned and operated Mark Brothers Pattern Shop in Avilla with his brother, Don, for 23 years and later retired from Mark Pattern Shop in Avilla. He graduated from Auburn High School in 1938 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW II. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Avilla and Avilla American Legion Post 240. He was born Oct. 25, 1920 in Auburn to Cecil and Nora (Shaffer) Mark. He married Cleo Crothers on July 13, 1946. Surviving are his wife; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Robert Patrick of Morganton, N.C., and Judy and Sam Goebel of Plymouth; 6 grandchildren, Tish and Ed Conley, Melissa and Kevin Greer, Todd and Robin Patrick, Mark Patrick, David and Michael Goebel; and 7 great-grandchildren. Mark W June, 77, Avilla, died February 11, 2001 in the emergency room at Parkview Noble Hospital. She was born March 26, 1923 in Angola to Dale and Wildus (Dailey) Fanning. On December 6, 1945 she married Don Mark at the Chapel in Angola. He survives in Avilla. She spent 28 1/2 years as a bookkeeper/receptionist at Family Medical Clinic in Avilla. During WW II she worked at G.E. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Avilla. Also surviving are a son, Stan of Angola; and a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jerry Becker of Kendallville; 4 grandchildren, Kevin and Julie Becker, Joe and Carrie Huelsenbeck, Tony and Drew Mark; 3 sisters, Maxine Woodworth of Angola, Phyllis Lobdell of Detroit, Mich., and Mary Johnson of Fort Wayne; and a brother, Robert of Angola. Marker Catherine Lenora, residing near Merriam, died last Wednesday from cancer. She was born in Ohio to Mr. and Mrs. James Method, deceased. She was born June 20, 1854, and died at the age of 73 years and 9 days. On Dec. 18, 1875 she was married to Lamon Marker, who survives, there being no other close relatives. Marker Charles, 71, was fatally burned Sunday at his home one mile east of Ligonier on the River Road. He apparently fell asleep in a chair while smoking. A neighbor found him unconscious outside the door of his burning home about 2 o’clock. He died a few minutes after he had been dragged from the area of the building. Marker Clayton W died Sept. 18, 1943. He was born June 9, 1880 near Albion to John A. and Christiann Marker. Two sisters and two brothers survive him, Mrs. Iva Boyer of Berrien Springs, Mich., Mrs. Otto Biddle of Santa Anita, Calif., and Ted and Frank of near Albion. In 1903 he was married to Alverda Weeks. They established a home in Albion and for about 40 years he operated a barber shop. He was a member of the North Star Lodge, IOOF and Albion Chamber of Commerce. Marker Dallas Bradley, 63, died Sept. 18, 2000 at his home on Lake of the Woods. He worked at Auburn Gear from 1958, retiring in 1999. He was a graduate of Wolf Lake High School and was a Korean Conflict veteran of the U.S. Navy; a member of Orland American Legion Post 423 and the United Auto Workers union in Auburn. He was born Nov. 20, 1936 in Noble County to Dale H. and Erma Jean (Johnson) Marker. He married Maxine "Mickie" Swain on July 31, 1960 in Angola. Surviving are 5 sons and 4 daughters-in-law, Steve and Bridgette Boszor of Rome City, J. Michael and Sue Boszor of Kendallville, Terry L. and Ann Marker of Clintonwood, Va., Tom and Debbie Marker of Dunkirk, and Doug Marker of Albion; one brother, Roger of Kendallville; one sister, Dode Wilmer of Fort Wayne; 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Marker Delores, 47, was born Nov. 19, 1927 in Noble County to Alva and Ethel May (Pippenger) McCoy and married Franklin Marker Sept. 15, 1950. He survives. She lived at Tri-Lakes since 1952, moving there from Albion, and had been employed at Magnavox Co. in Fort Wayne. She died Oct. 23 in Whitley County Hospital. Other survivors include her mother at R. 1, Avilla; a daughter, Mrs. Gregg (Marsha Ann) Koon, Columbia City; two sons, Randy Lee, Rome City, and Ronnie Lee, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Audrey Luther, Albion, and Mrs. Paul Uhl, R. 1, Avilla; two brothers, Raymond and Gerald, R. 1, Avilla, and four grandchildren. Marker Dennis, 50, Wolf Lake, died April 5 in Whitley County Hospital. He was born in Noble County to Dale H. and Emma Jean Johnson Marker and married Judith Kay Embree Sept. 15, 1956. She died July 15, 1973. He was a former head of maintenance at Fort Wayne Children’s Home and had worked as a realtor with Kaufman Real Estate in Ligonier. Surviving are a son, Derek Shane, Wolf Lake; two brothers, Roger L, Avilla, and Dallas B. of Hudson; a sister, Mrs. George W. (Dora) Wilmer, Fort Wayne, and a special friend, Carolyn Schrader of Albion. Services April 15 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home in Columbia City. Marker Derwood, 80, of Columbia City, died Monday in his residence. He was born October 8, 1913 in St. Joseph County to Franklin Boyd and Rhena Dwaine (Hile) Marker. He married Jeneva L. Shaw May 16, 1936 in Elkhart. She survives. He grew up in Wolf Lake and Albion and lived in Decatur from 1939 until 1963. He and his family spent their summers at Big Lake from 1956 until moving there year-round in 1963. He worked for Central Soya in Decatur for more than 22 years. When he moved back to Noble County he owned and operated the Wolf Lake IGA for 5 years. He retired in 1977 after 7 years of service in the truck tire department in Glenbrook Square, Fort Wayne. Surviving also are a daughter, Sandra Sue Lee of Noblesville; a son, Terry Lynn Marker of Albion; a brother, Franklin Boyd Marker of Warsaw; 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larry L. in January; a granddaughter, Lisa Marker; a sister, Bernice Tomlinson; and 2 brothers, Boyd and Dale. Funeral Thursday in Christian Chapel. Marker Franklin, 93, of Warsaw died Nov. 6, 2012, at Kosciusko Community Hospital. He worked for many years as a maintenance supervisor for American Hoist & Derrick, Fort Wayne. He graduated from Wolf Lake High School in the late 1930s. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II andwas a member of Post 253 American Legion, North Webster. He was born July 15, 1919, in Noble County to Franklin and Renie (Hile) Marker. Surviving are his wife of 28 years; 8 children, Frank (Dorothy) Marker of Arkansas, Joy (Wade) King of Huntsville, Texas, Susan (Alan) Borneman of Fishers, Marsha Coon of Warsaw, Steven (Carol) Heeter of Nappanee, Jack (Marge Kiggler) Heeter of Leesburg, Randy (Beverly) Marker of Albion and Ronnie Marker, Lake Jackson of Texas; also numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his his former wife, Delores I. Marker; a son, Karry L. Marker Franklin Boyd, 91, of Wolf Lake, died at Whitley County Hospital May 25, 1974. He was a retired realtor, specializing in residence and lake property. Before entering the real estate business he had been an automobile salesman and farmer. During WW I he was sent to Battle Creek, Mich. to build an army camp for the U. S. government. He was a lifelong member of the Wolf Lake 7th Day Adventist Church. He was a Noble County native, born March 5, 1884, a son of John and Christiann Sheffler Marker. He married Rhena DeWaine Hile on Sept. 12, 1903 in Albion. He was educated in the Noble Twp schools and following their marriage they established their first home in Noble Twp. In 1906 they moved to Dale, Mich., but returned to their country home north of Albion in 1908. After a few more moves, they returned to Noble county in 1931. Surviving are the widow; two sons, Derwood of Big Lake and Franklin of Tri Lakes; one daughter, Mrs. Latta (Berniece) Tumlinson of Wolf Lake; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Deceased are two sons, Boyd and Dale; three brothers, Clayton, Herbert and Theodore; a sister, Laura Biddle; a stepsister, Iva Boyer. Services at Wolf Lake Adventist Church May 28. Marker Herb, 70, Cromwell, died Monday at Goshen Hospital. He was a resident of Noble County most of his life and was owner-operator of a janitorial service. He was a member of the Ligonier Presbyterian Church and the Rosicrucian. He was born July 22, 1915 in Tama, Iowa, the son of Shirley Hubert and Mabel (Munson) Marker. One May 6, 1961 he married Valura Franks in Sturgis, Mich. Surviving are his wife; a sister, Ida Mae Firestone, Phoenix, Ariz. There is no funeral. + 1985
Marker John Andrew was born near Wolf Lake, March 24, 1852, the son of Mathias and Elizabeth Marker. There were five children in the family, all of whom with the parents have preceded him in death except one sister, Mrs. Belle Mock, whose address is unknown. One half-brother also deceased. In 1877 he married Christiann Sheffler. They had seven children, two of whom, an infant son and a daughter Neuma, having died. Those surviving are Clayton of Albion, Frank and Herbert of Wolf Lake, Ted of Garrett, Mrs. Laura Biddle of Kendallville; and one stepdaughter, Mrs. Iva Boyer of St. Joseph, Mich.; 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. In 1927, Mrs. Marker died, and since that time he has lived among his children. He died Dec. 20, 1932, being 80 years, 8 months and 26 days of age. Funeral at Clayton Marker home Thursday. Marker Kerry, 10-day old son of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Marker of Tri Lakes, died at Whitley County Hospital Dec. 3, 1956. Graveside services were held Tuesday at Wolf Lake Cemetery. Marker Larry Lee, 57, died Sunday at his home in South Whitley. He had been a correctional officer for the State of Indiana Chain O' Lakes Correctional Unit since 1989. A U. S. Navy veteran, he was a member of South Whitley United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 246 in Albion. Surviving are his wife, the former Sue Rose Grossman; a daughter, Debra Denise Marker of Quincy, Mich.; 3 stepchildren; his parents, Derwood and Jeneva Marker of Columbia City; a sister, Sandra Sue Gerig of Noblesville; a brother, Terry; and 3 grandchildren. Marker Lewis R, about 71, died at his Ligonier home, 1007 S. Cavin St., Nov. 20. Born in Ligonier, he was a lifelong resident of Perry Twp and Ligonier and had devoted more than 30 years in government work, first as a city carrier and then a rural letter carrier, retiring about 10 years ago. He was the son of Carson and Eva M. Minor Marker, born Jan. 25, 1884. He married Martha J. Baker on March 16, 1907 at the Chapel parsonage in Merriam. He was a member of the EUB Church and the Modern Woodman Lodge. Surviving are the widow; a daughter, Mrs. Marcile Winebrenner of Valparaiso; three grandchildren, Tom, Sandra and Philip Winebrenner; and a sister, Mrs. Grover Smith of Syracuse. Marker Martha J, 97, Bremen Manor Retirement Home, died Tuesday in Bremen Hospital. She was formerly a resident of Ligonier. Born in Noble County on Jan. 28, 1882, she was the daughter of James and Carrie (Marsh) Baker. She married Lewis Marker on March 16, 1907 in Merriam. He died Nov. 20, 1954. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Marcile Winebrenner, Valparaiso; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral Friday in Ulrey Funeral Home, Ligonier. Marker Mary, 58, of Fort Wayne, died May 22, 1988 at Lutheran Hospital. She was born Sept. 26, 1929 to Frank and Ethel Sprague in Ligonier. She married Lowell Marker, who died in 1980. Surviving are three daughters, Julia McBride, Rosie and Sally Marker, all of Fort Wayne; two sons, Steve of Massillon, Ohio, and Calvin, Fort Wayne; 6 grandchildren; 4 sisters, Janis Rarick, Cromwell, Faye Lahr, Fort Wayne, Isabell Lecount and Betty Chiddister of Ligonier; five brothers, Morris, Frank Jr., Glen, Fred of Ligonier, and Phillip of Auburn. Marker Matthias, 79, died at the home of his son-in-law in Sparta Nov. 8, 1890. He was a native of Westmoreland County, Penn, born Nov. 6, 1811. He came to Indiana in 1834 and first settled in St. Joseph County. Subsequently he moved to Noble County where he remained until his death, living most of the time on his farm in the Haw Patch, but later he removed to Ligonier where he lived until about one year ago, when he left and spent the remainder of his life with his daughter who had married a son of John L. Marker Mina Elverda, about 80, (b. 4-14-1883) a lifelong resident of the Albion community, died Nov. 15, 1963 at McCray Hospital. She was born in Noble County, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Weeks. Her late husband, Clayton Marker, was a barber here for many years. She is survived by 5 nieces and 2 nephews. Marker Oliver E, 80, who operated greenhouses in both Albion and Churubusco, died at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, June 14. He was born in Indiana April 1, 1890 and lived in this area all his life. He was married Aug. 12, 1942 to Mae Sands. She died in 1969. Survivors include three stepsons, Frank Emrick of Fort Wayne, Ralph Emrick of Angola, and Harry Emrick of Waterloo; and a daughter, Mrs. Frank Logan of Fort Wayne. Marker Robert L, 94, of Naples, Fla., died Oct. 25, 2008 at Naples Community Hospital. He was born Aug. 8, 1914 in Eel River Twp, a son of Oscar and Hattie (Geiger) Marker. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II. A farmer, he had a 22-year career with Moorman’s Mfg. Co., retiring in 1977. He was a member of Churubusco Lodge 515 F&AM and OES 136. On Dec. 18, 1941 he married Gladys Guillaume in Churubusco. Surviving are his wife; 2 daughters, Sandra (Dick) Fountain of Naples; and Patty (Robin) Hunt of Noblesville; 4 grandchildren, Cindy Pershing, Claudine Whitaker, Kara Londgergan and Kim DeNicolo; and 7 great-grandchildren, Katie Koozer, Lauren Pershing, Isaac Whitaker, Kieren, Alden and Ella Londergan and Mia DeNicolo. Marker Sarah (Surfus), 87, died at her home one mile east of Ligonier Sept. 11. She had lived nearly her entire life in Perry Twp and married Albert Marker in 1870. He died in 1921. Marker Ted C, about 64, (b. 6-7-1889) for many years a resident of this community, died Aug. 15, 1953 at his home about five miles east of Albion following a heart attack. For many years he had been employed as trainman by the B&O Railway. He is survived by his widow, Fannie; a daughter, Mrs. Harold Coil of Albion; a son, Darl of Auburn; two sisters, Mrs. Otto Biddle of Calif., and Mrs. Iva Boyer of Mich.; one brother, Frank of Wolf Lake; and six grandchildren. Markle Neil C, 79, of Adams Lake, died July 5, 2010 in Otterbein Cridersville Retirement Center near Lima, Ohio. He was the owner and operator of Cline Bros. Lumber Co. in Kendallville until 1988. He also owned and operated Wolcottville Lumber Co. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Woodruff Grove United Methodist Church, the Rotary Club, Elks Lodge, and American Legion Post 86, all in Kendallville. He was born March 1, 1931 in Andrews to John and Gertrude (Cline) Markle. Surviving are twin sons, Tom Markle of Fort Wayne and David Markle of Japan; 5 grandchildren, Lindsay, Andrew, Michelle, Adam and Elisha Markle; and a sister, Jean Wright of Lima, Ohio. Markley Helen, 56, R. 1, Cromwell, died Friday in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. She was born Dec. 18, 1920 in Czechoslovakia and had lived near Cromwell about 18 ½ years and previously in Howe. She was married July 24, 1948 in Germany to Sidney E. Markley Sr. She was a member of Cromwell United Methodist Church. Marks Catherine, daughter of Benjamin and Elizabeth Frazure, was born in Morrow County, Ohio June 7, 1845. She died in Toledo, Ohio, July 13, 1930 at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 6 days. In 1852 the family left their home in Ohio and came to Indiana, locating in Albion. She married William H. Marks, March 26, 1864. They had three children, Wilbert T. of Chicago, Sadie who died at the age of six, and Frank who died ten years ago. The husband and father had died 12 years ago. With the exception of the last ten years of her life which she spent in Toledo, she had been a resident of Albion and Fort Wayne. She is survived by the son; a sister, Mrs. Amanda Prickett and two brothers, William and George; five grandchildren, Edgar, Harold, Erma, Leroy and Freddie Marks; 5 great-grandchildren. Marks, a former resident of Albion who had been living at Huntington the past three years, her native home, was fatally injured Friday night when struck by an auto at West Pittston, Pa. where she was visiting with a niece, Mrs. Charles Ekenbarger. Marks Irma of Fort Wayne, daughter of W. T. Marks of Albion, recently deceased, died at her home in that city April 22 from heart disease. After leaving Albion, the mother and children moved to Fort Wayne where she became owner of Merle Norman Studios. Marks Kenneth W, 87, formerly of Kendallville, died Nov. 20, 2010 at Betz Nursing Home, Auburn. He was born in Lansing, Mich. on Feb. 16, 1923 to Virgil and Eva (Rossman) Marks. Marks Wilbert T, 75, a native of Albion, died Saturday at Kendallville hospital following an operation for a ruptured gall bladder on Tuesday. He was the eldest son of William and Catherine (Frazure) Marks, deceased, pioneer residents here. While yet a youth he learned the machinist’s trade in the B&O Railroad shops at Garrett. Leaving Garrett, he was employed in that capacity at Fort Wayne, Huntington, and Chicago. Thirty-six years ago he purchased the bakery and restaurant on E. Main in Albion, operating the same several years. He then went to Chicago to accept a lucrative mechanical job in a railroad shop, later returning to Albion and purchased a small tract of land west of Albion. After disposing of this he again returned to Albion and for the past several years has resided with a niece, Mrs. Ruth Stewart. Marquiss Anna C was born in Piatt County, Ill. on May 13, 1866. Her early life was spent near Deland, Ill., where she attended the public schools and in 1886 she married Harry C. Marquiss, who survives her. They had 10 children, two of which have preceded her in death. These were Mrs. Laura Perrot and Charles H. Those surviving are Mrs. Mary Baldwin southeast of Albion, Emma, Loren, Carl, Albert, Otis, and Ford at home, and Wilbur living in Michigan City. She is also survived by four grandchildren. The family moved from Illinois to near Albion in Feb. 1910. She was a member of the Christian Church at Pleasant Hill, the North Star Rebekah Lodge No. 92., and York Twp Home Economics Club. Marquiss Wilbur H, 84, died May 21, 1982 in Michigan City, Ind. Burial was in Michigan City, where he is survived by a son, Wayne, and a daughter, Beatrice, and five grandchildren. An employee of the old Albion Electric Co. in the 1920’s, he was born in Deland, Ill., and came to Noble County with his family in 1910. He was the last of ten children born to Harry and Anna Marquiss who moved their 7 sons and 3 daughters from Piatt County, Ill. by railroad to the farm 2 ½ miles west of Albion at the junction of the Albion Road and the Wawaka Road. When Harry and Anna moved to the farm they remodeled it and installed a slate roof with the date on one side and the initials HCM on the other. The roof with the 1910 date and lettering remains to this day. Also surviving are the widows of three of the Harry Marquiss sons. They are Mrs. Carl (Marie) Marquiss, Albion, Mrs. Ford (Myrtle) Marquiss, Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Lorin (Margaret) Marquiss, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 32 great-great-grandchildren. Marrs Raymond E, 65, R. 8, Columbia City, died June 21, 1984 at a hospital in Fort Wayne. A native of Whitley County, he served as a conservation officer and police officer in the Big Lake area after the formation of Big Lake Property Owners Association. At the time of his death he was a special deputy in the Noble County Sheriff’s Dept. He graduated from Larwill High School in 1936, and in 1937 began employment at the Weatherhead Co. in Columbia City. He retired from there in 1980 as foreman in the automatic screw department. Sept. 9, 1939 he married Rose Mary Blair at Wolf Lake Baptist Church. They lived most of their married life at Big Lake. He was a member of the Weatherhead Pioneers Club, Indiana Sheriff’s Association and National Rifle Association. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Kenneth E., Wolcottville, Dennis Lee, R. 7, Columbia City; a daughter, Mrs. Terry (Penny Rae) Waikel of Fort Wayne; 8 grandchildren; one brother, Corwin Eugene of Columbia City; and two sisters, Mrs. Elnora Drudge of Larwill, and Mrs. Eddie (Beulah) Simmons of Fort Wayne. , daughter of Edward and Susan Pilgrim, was born near Avilla Feb. 7, 1893. Sometime later the family moved to Columbus, Ohio, where she was married to Leonard Marsh on Nov. 16, 1909. They had four children, Denver Dale, Earle Juanita, Beatrice Evelyn and Louise Lavon. For 5 years they lived in Auburn. She was a member of the Church of God at that place. She died Oct. 5, 1917, being 24 years 7 months and 28 days of age. She is survived by her husband and children; her parents; 4 brothers, William, Daniel, Harry and Michael; 4 sisters, Francis McLain of Sturgis, Roxie Blaker of Prudence, W. Marshall Carol Frances, five-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Shirley Marshall of six miles southwest of Kendallville, died Sunday an hour after she had been given cough medicine which probably contained an abnormal amount of strychnine. Awakening with a cough at 5 o’clock, the child was given only three-quarters of a teaspoon of cough syrup, believed to have been a home-made preparation. Convulsions followed a short time later and the physician who was called administered treatment for strychnine poisoning, to which she rallied and then relapsed. Coroner Myron C. Hutchins was summoned and ordered a post mortem examination. The child’s stomach and its contents, along with the remaining portion of cough medicine was sent to Indianapolis for analysis. Coroner Hutchins was told the medicine had been unused since last spring when it was prepared by Marshall’s stepmother, now a resident of Michigan. He stated an effort probably would be made to contact the woman. Besides the parents, the child is survived by one sister, Shirley, and the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gustave Hass. Marshall Clyde James, 58, was born Oct. 3, 1880 and on May 5, 1939 he died at the home of his son, Paul in Albion. He was born in Noble County and spent his entire life in this and LaGrange County. For a number of years he lived in Albion and was employed by different grocery merchants as deliveryman. On Aug. 10, 1907, he and Myrtle Hostetter were married. They had three children, Shirley and Paul of Albion, and Mrs. Paul Whitacre of Huntington. The wife died May 10, 1921. On Aug. 22, 1922 he married Eva Bradbury. They had one daughter but she only lived a few brief moments. He was a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Albion. Marshall Elizabeth C was born in Orange Twp, Noble County on July 21, 1839 near Rome City. In her infancy, her parents, Daniel and Abigail Lower, moved to a farm in Elkhart Twp. On Nov. 20, 1864 she married Joseph W. Marshall and made her home on a farm near the old homestead. They had 6 boys and 3 girls. The 2 eldest, Ida and John, died in infancy. She died Aug. 31, 1916, aged 77 years, 1 month and 10 days. She leaves 5 sons and 2 daughters, Ervin of Indianapolis, Mrs. Cora Shurtz of Stevenson, Cal., Orson O., William W., J. He was burned after he poured kerosene on a hot range, the flames from the explosion igniting his clothes. He was born June 8, 1940 at the Marshall residence on Drake Road. Marshall John was born on March 10, 1818 in Guernsey County, Ohio. He died at Rome City in March 1884. He married Eliza Jane Magee on Oct. 27, 1840. During the following winter he removed to Defiance County. In 1851 he was left a widower with 4 small children whom he kept together until July 6, 1858 when he married Mrs. Rachel Tenor. They lived together until Nov. 23, 1860. Left a widower again, he continued to reside with his children on the same farm until Feb. 3, 1863 when he married Mrs. Nancy I. Hesket, who survives. In the fall of 1882 he came to Rome City where he resided with his son, Thomas, until death. Funeral was Friday at the M. E. Church. The remains were taken to Ohio for burial. ^ 3-14-1884

She worked as a sales person for 30 years selling all different types of floor covering, from carpet to hardwoods to tile. She also ran a Polynesian dance studio in Kendallville during the mid 1960s. Marti Richard W "Dick", 69, South Milford, died June 3, 2001 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. The 1949 graduate of Avilla High School lived in South Milford for 34 years, moving from Cree Lake. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army in the Korean Conflict. He worked at Kraft Foods, Kendallville, for 35 years, retiring in November 1994. He was the caretaker of South Milford Cemetery from 1978 to 1988. He was a member of Kendallville American Legion Post 86 and St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville. He was born October 3, 1931 in Kendallville to Raymond and Alma (Hammel) Marti. On October 3, 1959 in Kendallville he married Gail S. Poyser, who survives in South Milford. Martin Andrew Jackson was the son of Andrew J. and Rachel Martin, born on Noble Twp April 26, 1866. There were 8 children in the family, all of whom with the parents have preceded him in death. He died on Oct. 20, 1943, just 53 years to the day after his marriage to Verona Johnston. They had five children, one daughter, Cleo, died at about age 2, those surviving are Mrs. Keith Krippner of Wawaka, Woodward of Albion, John of Ligonier, and Clarence of Tiffin, Ohio. There are 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Martin passed away in May 1921 at their Albion home. On July 3 he fell, breaking his hip. He died on Oct. 20, being past 77 years of age. Martin Donald J, native of Kendallville and recently of Garrett, was found dead Friday in his partly capsized boat on Story Lake in DeKalb County. An employee of the Pet Milk Company, he had rented a boat at the public dock at 7:30 a.m. to go fishing. His body was found shortly after noon partly submerged. An autopsy showed he had died by drowning after suffering a heart attack. He married Lorayne "Herbie" Brown June 23, 1973 in LaGrange. He was a regional salesman for Carriage Inc. of Millersburg. He was a WW II veteran and a member of the American Legion and VFW in LaGrange. Martin Edmund N, 75, died Nov. 1, 2000 at Sacred Heart Home in Avilla. He was born Feb. 20, 1925 in Mishawaka to Clovis and Freda (Rinehart) Martin. He graduated from Kendallville High School in 1943 and from Purdue University in 1948 with a degree in electrical engineering. He retired from Dana as an electrician in 1991. He married Dorothy Leiter on Sept. 29, 1950 in Kendallville. He served in the Army during WW II and during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of American Legion Post 86 and VFW Post 2759 and a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in LaOtto. Martin Freda C, 90, of Kendallville Manor Health Care, died Monday in McCray Hospital. Born in Noble County May 13, 1897, she was the daughter of Nicholas and Elizabeth (Ackerman) Rinehart. In 1924 in Mishawaka, she married Clovis R. Martin, who died in 1934. She retired from McCray Refrigerator after 24 years. She was a member of the McCray 20-Year Club, Kendallville Senior Citizens and American Legion Auxiliary. Martin George, who formerly resided in this place, died Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Cunningham, in Kendallville. Death was the result of diseases incident to his extreme age, 90 years and 9 days. He married Martha Rhonehouse on July 9, 1853, and they came from Sandusky, Ohio, and settled upon a farm in Swan Twp in 1866, and after living there several years they lived east of town 10 years. His wife died October 13, 1898. Surviving are 3 daughters, Mrs. Lizzie Bills of South Bend, Mrs. Kate Showers of St. Louis, Mich., and Mrs. Maggie Cunningham of Kendallville; one son, John of Kendallville; 21 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Martin Jacob, 81, pioneer resident, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Madge Taylor, 305 E. Mitchell St., from apoplexy. He was born in Penn. Feb. 28, 1854, and came to Fairfield Center in his youth. Most of his life was spent in the painting and decorating business, which trade he followed until about 5 years ago when he retired. For the past 23 years he had been a resident of Kendallville. He was married to Elva Bixler of Swan Twp May 30, 1888. She died Sept. 1, 1911. Martin John J, 91, Albion resident, died Saturday at Kendallville Hospital of complications. He is survived by two granddaughters, Erma Brown of Ventura, Calif., and Mary Lou Martin of Glencoe, Ill. Funeral was Monday at Miser Funeral Home. Burial, Rose Hill Cemetery. He was a retired telegrapher. It was his privilege to send the message to the president of the B&O Railroad in 1881 announcing that officials had located the division point at Garrett and named the spot in honor of the president whose name was Garrett. He was working in a tower house at that time at Auburn Junction. The officials had made their inspection and were returning on a hand car when they gave Martin the message to send to the B&O president. He taught many Albion men the art of telegraphy. He retired from the B&O in 1882 and came to Albion where he remained until his death. He owned an Albion hardware until 1901 when he assumed a position as manager of the district for the Postal Telegraph. + 1-?-1941
Martin John W, 73, resident of Avilla for many years, died Friday at Kendallville Hospital as the result of injuries received in an automobile accident Sept. 24 on State Road 3 a half-mile south of Kendallville. He is said to have driven his car onto the highway in front of an oncoming car. He was born in Ohio on June 14, 1868 and had resided in Fort Wayne and Kendallville for a number of years and had moved to Avilla last spring. Martin Leonard Edward, 69, North Shore Dr., died this morning in McCray Hospital. He was born March 11, 1902 in Oglesby, Ill. to Fess and Ellen (McDonald) Martin. He moved here three years ago from Milwaukee, Wis. where he had been employed by the Milwaukee Railroad. He retired from the railroad after a 49-year employment. Martin Martha Ann died at her home in this place Tuesday of dropsy. Martha Ann Rhonehouse was born in Germany December 17, 1828; died September 13, 1898, aged 69 years, 8 months, 26 days. She came to America August 17, 1853 and was married to George Martin July 9, 1854. They resided at Sandusky, Ohio, until 1865, when they moved to Noble County, where they have since resided. They had 6 children, of whom five are living, together with eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The funeral services occur this afternoon at the German Lutheran Church. ~ 9-15-1898
Martin Mary, widow of the late Christ Martin of Green Twp, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. David Rentschler of Fort Wayne, last Thursday. She had been making her home with her daughter since the death of her husband 3 years ago. She was past 66 years old and death came very suddenly. Martin Oris Wayne, 88, died March 3, 2003 at his home of an apparent heart attack. He had owned and operated Cromwell Grain Elevator; he contracted acreage and transported for Campbell Soup Co. for 15 years; he built grain storage in New Haven, Lafayette and Champagne, Ill., contracted with the U.S. government to buy and sell grain; owned Cle-Mar Cartage Co. in Cromwell; and participated in money management corporations. He was a member of Cromwell United Methodist Church. He graduated from Trafalgar High School in 1932 and from Purdue University in 1937. He was a member of the board of directors of Cromwell State Bank, member of the Cromwell-Kimmell Lions Club and Masonic Lodge. He was born in Knox County April 18, 1914 to William Wayne and Nellie Helen (McClure) Martin. He married Mary H. Hunt June 4, 1939 in Johnson County. Surviving are his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Sharron Martin of North Webster; a twin sister, Iris Hanning of North Manchester; 9 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Martin P Darwin, 78, of rural Ligonier, died July 13, 2012 from cancer at his son’s residence in Sturgis, Mich. He was born on May 30, 1934, in Knott County, Ky. to Earl and Florence (Hall) Martin. In May of 1953 in Knott County, Ky. he married Helen Bates. She died Jan. 3, 2008. He retired from Monsanto now known as Silgan Plastics in Ligonier. Martin William D, 75, R. 1, Hudson was born March 12, 1897 in Fort Wayne to William D. and Mahala (Dishler) Martin and was married in Celina, Ohio to Lena Rax, who survives. He was a former businessman in Avilla, having owned the feed mills and at one time owned the Avilla Lumber Yard. He was also chairman of the Avilla town board for two years. He died Friday morning at McCray Hospital. Martz Walter "Jack", 90, one of the longest continuous Main Street businessmen in the city’s history, died Monday at McCray Hospital. A barber on S. Main St. for more than 6 decades, he was barbering until last week. His most famous customer at his barber shop was the famous gangster John Dillinger, who visited Kendallville several times on his way to Chicago. Mr. Martz recalled giving Dillinger a shave and haircut on three separate occasions. Born Oct. 25, 1896 in Grove Hill, Ohio, he was the son of Martin F. and Mary (Kelsey) Martz. On June 10, 1920 he married Mary L. Collins in Albion. He came to Noble County in 1907, moving to Kendallville in 1919. He got started in barbering almost by accident. His stepfather, James Miller, who was a jack-of-all-trades, turned to barbering and prodded him into the profession. He started with a wooden chair back in the 1920’s, charging 25 cents for a haircut and 15 cents for a shave in those early days. He worked at Flint & Walling 1925-1942, keeping his shop open in the evenings. WW II brought in even more business as Army men were used to keeping their hair short, and he decided to barber full time 45 years ago. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Madelynne) Parker of Kendallville; three grandchildren, Mrs. Verlin (Nancy) Lung of Kendallville, Thomas Kemerly of Nashville, and Mrs. Gregory (Kay) Snapp of El Paso, Texas; two step-grandchildren, Mrs. Steve (Terri) Ade and William J. Marvel John E, 86, of Churubusco, died Jan. 15, 2004 at St. Joseph Hospital. He was formerly employed at the Carey Cement Co. in Churubusco and later worked at Dana Corp. He retired as plant operator of the Louisville Cement Co. in Fort Wayne in 1980. A WW II Army veteran, he was awarded the Bronze Star on 4 occasions. He was a member of Gilbert Davis American Legion Post 157 in Churubusco and VFW Turtle Post 3846, Disabled American Veterans and the 40&8 in Rome City. He was born Aug. 7, 1917 in Pierceton, the son of Bert Ernest and Minnie (Wolf) Marvel. On Nov. 17, 1979 he married Rachel Elizabeth Campbell Gilbert. She died Jan. 21, 1998. Surviving are 3 daughters and a son-in-law, Irene Clingerman of Albion and Patsy Dressler and Ruth and Richard Millikan of Churubusco; 2 sisters, Cora Mae Baker of Warsaw and Rose Kammer of Fort Wayne; 10 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Marvin George Mrs., 90, died Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lime Kilmer of Ligonier. She is survived by two other daughters, Mrs. Nettie Austin of Ligonier, and Mrs. Jennie Blood of Calif. Marzion Steven J, 26, was pronounced dead Friday in the emergency room of McCray Hospital, a victim of cardiac arrest. An employee of T&T Plumbing & Heating of LaOtto, he collapsed while on a job in Country Club Hills in Kendallville. He was born Sept. 7, 1955 in Pontiac, Mich., the son of William A. and Sylvia M. (Salo) Marzion Jr. He married Cathy L. Swager on May 22, 1976 in Kendallville. Surviving are his wife and parents; a 5-year old daughter Carrie Lynne, and a 2-year old son, Shawn Steven; a sister, Mrs. Toby (Kathleen) Tipton, R. 3, Kendallville; and four brothers, Kyle, Chris and William III, all of R. 2 Kendallville and Mark, Kendallville. Marzion William A Jr, 63, R. 1, Wawaka, died Wednesday at Parkview Hospital. He was born Feb. 3, 1924 in Detroit, the son of William A. and Marie (Karas) Marzion. On Oct. 25, 1952 in Rochester, Mich. he married Sylvia M. Salo. He worked as a truck driver and was a WW II veteran. Surviving are one daughter, Cathleen Tipton, Kendallville; four sons, William A. III, and Chris, Kendallville, and Mark and Kyle, Wawaka; nine sisters, Pearl Douglas, Blanche Graham and Joyce Dzuris, of Rochester, Dorothy Fogler, New Haven, Mich., Betty Siegler, Imlay City, Mich., Margaret Campbell, Ormand Beach, Fla., Delores Jacoby, Auburn Heights, Mich., Shirley Conger, Romeo, Mich., and Audrey Stamm, Dryden, Mich.; one brother, John, Lapeer, Mich.; and 10 grandchildren.
