Loo Marinus Johnnes, 72, of De Vier Dorper, Beekbergen,
Holland was born in Holland in 1899 and his wife died in 1968. He was a retired
employee of KLM Airlines and had traveled extensively throughout the world as
their representative. Survivors include a son, John of Enchanted Hills,
Cromwell; a daughter, Mrs. L. Bosma of Rossmoyne, Australia; and several
grandchildren. He was cremated and his ashes spread by plane over his native
homeland. + 11-?-1971
Loomis Harry M, 61, a native of Kendallville, died Wednesday in Elkhart
Hospital as a result of burns sustained on Feb. 15. He suffered from paralysis
about 9 years ago and it was while seated in a chair at his home that his
clothing caught fire from a pipe which he had been smoking. In his condition he
was powerless to extinguish the flames or to escape from the chair. John
Clausen, an oil peddler, who came to deliver oil, arrived just in time to
extinguish the flames and rescue Mr. Loomis. He was removed to the hospital
where he remained until his death. M. H. Loomis of this city, a brother, visited
him last Monday when it was learned his condition was critical and death was
expected momentarily. He was a son of Samuel Mills and Angeline Loomis and was
born in Kendallville on May 27, 1864. He left here in 1898, going to Elkhart. He
worked as a drum maker at the C. G. Conn, Ltd., factory at one time and also
gave instructions in drumming, being an expert with the snare drum. Since he was
stricken nine years ago his principal source of income has been from drum
instructions. During the Spanish-American War he was a drummer with the U. S.
Marines and at one time was drummer on the battleship Massachusetts. + 3-7-1926
Loomis Henry, 80, of Noble Twp, died Tuesday of
heart disease. He was the first white child born in Buffalo, N.Y. He had been a
resident of this county since 1945. ^ 8-19-1880
Loomis Lucille Madge, 79, died Thursday in Ligonier Health
Facility. She was born July 4, 1914 in Whiting to Harry and Leona Viola
(Landis) Templeton. She married Monroe Loomis in Hammond on Aug. 9,
1947. She was a member of Grace Bible Church in Syracuse. Surviving
are her husband; 2 sisters, Hazel Smith of Hammond and Dorothy Greer of Benton,
Ky.; 4 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by a daughter, Mary Weaver. Funeral Monday in Ulrey-Renner Funeral

Loomis Monroe C, 83, died Wednesday in Oak Leaf Village in
Ligonier. He was born Sept. 9, 1915 in Oak Park, Ill., to Mason and
Evarose (Kerth) Loomis. On Aug. 9, 1947 in Hammond he married Lucille
Templeton. He was a WW II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps and had
worked as an assembler for Budd Co. in Gary. He had been a member of Grace
Bible Church. Surviving are 4 grandchildren, David Wells, Deb Baxter, Lori
and Sharon Caudill; 12 great-grandchildren and 3
great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; a
daughter, Mary Weaver, and a brother, Roger. Funeral Saturday in

Loomis S J M died Tuesday at Longcliffe, Logansport, where he was
recently taken for treatment. He was past 70 years of age and had been in ill
health for a long time. For 32 years he was a member of the choir of the
Presbyterian Church. He is survived by 2 sons, Harry of Elkhart and Morton H. of
this city. Funeral from the Presbyterian Church Thursday. Burial, Lake

Loop Florence Ethel was born at Kendallville May 10, 1885, and died March
4 at Wesley Hospital, Chicago of typhoid fever. She was married to Charles R.
Loop March 27, 1901. She was the oldest daughter of Rochale D. and Ellen Bly.
She moved with her husband to Chicago last July. She leaves her husband, father,
mother, one sister and five brothers. Funeral at the Christian Church, of

Loos Gertrude, 73, Fort Wayne, died in her home today. Born Aug.
2, 1906 in Wirges, Germany, a member of St. Vincent’s Catholic Church in Fort
Wayne, married Rudolph Loos in 1933 in Germany. She lived in the Rome City area
for 30 years. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Mary) Frecker,
Murphysboro, Ill., and Mrs. David (Dorothy) Loeffler, Fort Wayne; and one son,
Clement John, Springwater, N.Y.; two sisters, Paula Schneider and Josefine
Heibel of Germany; two brothers, Bernhard and Walter Heibel of Germany; and 8
grandsons. She was preceded in death by a son, Walter; one sister and one
brother. Services Tuesday in St. Gaspar’s Catholic Church, Rome City.

Loos Lee Stanford "Stan", 53, of Sylvan Lake, died
Thursday in his workshop. Born Aug. 7, 1931, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of
Gerry and Portia (Dotey) Loos. On Sept. 1, 1956 in Columbia City he married
Carol Hancock. He was the owner of the Sylvan Lake Marina and was a member of
Rome City United Methodist Church and Kendallville Elks Lodge. Surviving are one
daughter, Sabra Ann of Rome City; one son, Lee (Stan) II of Rome City; one
sister, Mrs. Charles (Sandra) Greer of Satellite Beach, Fla.; and two
grandchildren. Services Sunday in Hutchins-Armes Funeral Home,

Loos Rudolph, 72, Fort Wayne, died Saturday in St. Joseph’s
Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born July 19, 1905 in Lemburg, Germany, he was the son of
Franz and Maria (Hilf) Loos. He married Gertrude Heibel in Nov. 1933 in Germany.
He had been a resident of Rome City 30 years. When he retired from Kraft Foods,
Kendallville, he moved to Fort Wayne. He was a member of St. Gaspar Catholic
Church. Survivors are the wife; two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Mary) Frecker,
Murphysboro, Ill., and Mrs. David (Dorothy) Loeffler, Fort Wayne; one son,
Clement of New York state; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Simon, Leinberg, Germany;
and 7 grandchildren. Funeral Tuesday in St. Gaspar Catholic Church, Rome

Loos Walter Raymond, 16, (b.8-21-1935 – d.2-2-1952) son of Mr.
and Mrs. Rudolph Loos residing ½ mile north of Rome City died Saturday in Sacred Heart Hospital, Garrett. A former pupil at St. Jude’s
School here, he was critically injured Friday night when he slipped and fell
through a trap door while playing basketball with a number of companions in the
hayloft of a barn at the sanitarium. He fell approximately 15 feet to a concrete
floor, suffering a fractured skull. Funeral today in Kneipp Springs

Lopez Frank A, son of Martin and Beatrice (Rocha) Lopez, was
stillborn Wednesday in Goshen Hospital. Surviving are his parents; a

Lopez Olgie, 68, died May 2, 1992 in her Wawaka residence. She was born
May 8, 1923 in Perkin, Okla, the daughter of James and Melissi (Kirkland)
Burrow. On March 26, 1971 in Millersburg, she married Justino Lopez.
Surviving are her husband; 2 sons, Darrell Jarvis of Enid, Okla., and Raul Cantu
Jr. of Austin, Texas; 6 daughters, Beatrice Salazar of Bristol, Bertha Pena,
Betty Lopez, Bonnie Olivarez and Barbara Cantu of Harlingen, Texas, and Bessie
Beltran of Goshen; 27 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers, J. D.
Burrow of Bastrop, Texas, Donald Burrow of Tryon, Okla., Doyle and Paul Burrow

Lopp Jeanne, 61, died unexpectedly Friday in the emergency room of McCray
Hospital. She was born in Anderson on July 10, 1934 to Charles and Ruth (Dockter)
Bucy. On June 6, 1954 in Anderson she married Ted Lopp.
She was a member of the First Church of God. Surviving are her husband; 2
daughters, Mrs. Tony (Sherry Jo) Stopher of Sellersburg and Mrs. Dan (Janet
Lynn) Harmon of New Salisbury; and 4 grandchildren, Joseph, Jonathon, Ruth Anne
and David Stopher. Funeral today in Hite Funeral Home. Burial, Lake

Loranger Frederick’s illness terminated fatally on Saturday, and his
remains were taken to Detroit for interment. He was 29 years of age, and the
first person in this vicinity to die as a result of la grippe. ~ 1-30-1890
Lorman John was born May 24, 1807 in Bastidow, Mecklenburg, Schwerin,
Germany. In 1839 he married Sophia Willert. He married Minnie Balze June 18, 1851. Came to this country in 1853. In May 1854
he came to Kendallville. In 1858 he united with the M. E. Church. He had 9
children in his first
marriage, 4 of whom are dead; and in his second
marriage there were 3 children who died in early childhood. He died Feb. 6,
aged 86 years 8 months 13 days. He leaves the widow, 3 sons, 2 daughters and an
adopted daughter; 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Funeral was in
German and English at the German M. E. Church Feb. 9. ^ 2-16-1894
Lortie Adrian J, 69, of R. 1, Kimmell, Noble County farmer, died Feb. 16 in South Bend Osteopath Hospital. He was born in Allen County on
November 30, 1914 to Francis and Bertha Leonard Lortie. He married Edith Smith
on Oct. 3, 1940 in Monroeville. They moved to the Kimmell area 24 years ago. He
was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Albion, its Holy Name
Society, the Indiana Holstein Association and Noble County Farm Bureau.
Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Edward (Carolyn) Nagle of Angola,
Mrs. Patrick (Rita) Baker of Kendallville, and Angela Lortie of Albion; five
sons, Robert of Ligonier, Carol of Kendallville, Max of Albion, Norman of
Nappanee and William of Kimmell; two sisters, Mrs. John (Shirley) Kemp and Mary
Kreger, both Churubusco; four brothers, John of New Haven, Earl of Birchwood,
Wis., Dominic of Butler and Paul of Monroeville; 16 grandchildren. The service
was Feb. 20 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ligonier. Burial, Sparta

Lortie Dallas R, 57, R. 1, Churubusco, died Dec. 2 in the V A Medical
Center, Fort Wayne. He was a veteran of WW II. Surviving are his wife, Wilma
Faye, Churubusco; his stepmother, Laura Lortie, Rome City; a daughter, Annette
Wellington, Arcola; six sons, Dallas "Dick" Jr., Jamie and Lee, all
Churubusco, Tim of Columbia City, and Donald and Edward, both of Winnie, Texas;
two sisters, Mary Kreger and Shirley Kemp, both Churubusco; and five brothers, Adrian,
Kimmell, John, New Haven, Earl of Birchwood, Wis., Dominic of Butler and Paul of

Lortie Edith Louise, 81, of Albion, died Oct. 18, 2001 at Provena Sacred
Heart Home in Avilla. She was a member of Nu-Yorkers Home Economics
Club. She was born Aug. 9, 1920 in Monroeville to Jay and Lida (O'Brien)
Smith. On Oct. 3, 1940 in Monroeville she married Adrian Lortie. He
died Feb. 16, 1984. Seven brothers, Earl, Edwin, Maurice, Lloyd, Clarence,
Wilfred and Bill, are also deceased . Surviving are 3 daughters and 2
sons-in-law, Carolyn and Edward Nagle of Angola, Rita and Patrick Barker of
Kendallville and Angela Lortie of Albion; 5 sons and daughters-in-law, Robert
and Janet and Carl and Connie Lortie of Ligonier, Max and Fran Lortie of

She was born May 18 in Kendallville to Christopher and Angela (Patrick) Lothamer

Lothamer Beverly J, 78, died Oct. 26, 2009 at her Rome City home.
She worked at General Electric in Fort Wayne and at Eaton Corp. in
Kendallville. She was born in Rochester, Ind. on May 19, 1931 to Oscar and
Beulah (Moore) Smith. She married Edward Lothamer on May 25, 1946.
He died May 19, 2000. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in
Avilla. Surviving are children, Paul and Mark Lothamer of Fort Wayne,
Cheryl Marshall of Kendallville, Deborah Estrada of Kimmell, Marilyn Franks of
Rome City, Brenda LaMarr of Bluffton, and Sharon Montoya of Kendallville; 21
grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters,
Marsha (George) Harvey of Auburn and Dorothy (LaVern) Harness of Tri Lakes,

Lothamer Charles A, 49, Albion, died Sunday in St. Joseph Medical Center
in Fort Wayne from injuries received in a Dec. 15, 1987 accident. His wife,
Nancy K., died Dec. 15 in the accident one mile north of LaOtto on SR 3. An
Allen County native, he moved to Albion four years ago. He was a welder for
Bentz Metal products. Surviving are his mother, Anna (Lucas) Lothamer; two
daughters, Julie Turner and Shelly Lothamer, Albion; two sisters, Rose Mary
Grist of New Haven and Geraldine Bailey of Palatine, Ill.; six brothers, Cletus
of St. Petersburg, Fla., Lawrence of LaGrange, Don of LaOtto, Ed of
Wolcottville, and Herb and Jim of New Haven; and two grandchildren. His father,

Lothamer Edward A "Big Ed", 76, Wolcottville, died May 19, 2000
at his home. He was born July 22, 1923 in Fort Wayne to Cletus E. and Anna
Marie (Lucas) Lothamer. He married Beverly Jane Smith on May 25, 1946 in
Fort Wayne. She survives. He was a WW II U.S. Army veteran and a
former member of the American Legion and VFW. He moved to the Noble County
area in 1963 and retired from General Electic in Fort Wayne in 1981 after
working there as a welder for 38 years. Also surviving are 5 daughters,
Cheryl Marshall and Sharon Montoya of Kendallville, Deborah Coy of Kimmell,
Marilyn Franks of Rome City and Brenda LaMarr of Wolcottville; 2 sons, Paul of
Hudson and Mark of Fort Wayne; 2 sisters, Rosemary Grist of Dallas Lake and
Geraldine Bailey of Crystal Lake, Ill.; 5 brothers, Cletus of Tampa, Fla.,
Donald of LaOtto, Lawrence of LaGrange, and Herbert and James of New Haven; 21

Lothamer John Andrew, 41, of Howe, died Feb. 9, 2008 at his
residence. He was born in Kendallville on Sept. 16, 1966 to Paul and
Shirley (McCoy) Lothamer. Surviving are his father of Columbia City; 3
brothers and a sister-in-law, Paul and Misty Lothamer and Ray Lothamer of
Columbia City and Christopher Lothamer of Kimmell; a sister and brother-in-law,
Tonya and Lake Poage of Columbia City; his grandmothers, Beverly Lothamer of
Fort Wayne and Ruby McCoy of Avilla; His ex-wife, Annette Maples of
Connersville. He was preceded in death by his mother on July 28, 1997, his
grandfathers, Edward Lothamer in 1999 and Raymond McCoy. No

Lothamer Nancy K, 44, of Albion, died in an Ind. 3 traffic accident
Tuesday near LaOtto. Born in Huntington on June 23, 1943, she lived most of her
adult life in Albion. She was a tester for Magnavox Corp. electronics division,
Fort Wayne. Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Walter (Marjorie) Denton of
Huntington; her husband, Charles A.; two daughters, Julie A. Turner and Shelly
Lothamer of Albion; three brothers, Jim of New Haven, Larry of Xenia, Ohio, and
Dave of Huntington; two sisters, Dorothy Sparks of Huntington, and Peg of

Hospital, Fort Wayne. She was born in Kendallville April 30, 1947. Her parents
were Raymond J. and Ruby (Gibson) McCoy. On Nov. 27, 1965 in Ege she married
Paul A. Lothamer. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Avilla.
Surviving are her husband; her mother in Avilla; a daughter, Tonya Poage of
Kendallville; 4 sons, John of Paulding, Ohio, Paul of Wolcottville, Ray of
Kendallville and Chris of Lansing, Mich.; a sister, Nancy Nevil of Albion; 2
brothers, Larry McCoy of Butler and Tony McCoy of Churubusco; and 7

following a heart attack at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Blanche Waltman, with
whom she was visiting. The widow of George W. Lott, she is survived by another

Lough Anna J, 81, died June 20, 2003 at Goshen General Hospital.
She was born Dec. 14, 1921 in Dayton, Ohio to Nathan C. and Mary P. (Kaehler)
Sollenberger. She married John M. Lough on Nov. 29, 1946 in Dayton.
He died in 1973. She had been a teacher's assistant at Ligonier Elementary
School and had prior worked for Kidd & Co. and Richard's Music. She
was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Surviving are a son and
daughter-in-law, Michael and Dixie Lough of Fort Wayne; 2 daughters and
sons-in-law, Patricia and Don Burnworth of Kimmell and Christine and Kermit
Leamon of Goshen; one brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Barb Sollenberger of
Xenia, Ohio; one sister, Helen Kelly of Dayton; 9 grandchildren and 5

Lough Donna Louise, 80, died Oct. 5, 1991. She was born in Chicago
Aug. 22, 1911, the daughter of Newton and Adelade (Mickum) Frazier. She
and her husband owned and operated Lough's Restaurant in Rome City for 43 years,
retiring in 1982. She was a member of Rome City United Methodist Church
and American Legion Post 381 Auxiliary in Rome City. She married James
Lough in Chicago on Jan. 12, 1937. He died Feb. 14, 1988. Surviving
are a daughter, Judy Barkdull of Graysville, Tenn.; 4 grandchildren and 2

Lough James, 81, of R. 1, Rome City, died Sunday in VA
Hospital, Marion. Born in Gassaway, W. Va., Aug. 22, 1906, he was the son of
Amos and Rose (Williams) Lough. On Jan. 12, 1937 in Chicago he married Donna
Frazier. He had moved from Chicago to Rome City in 1945 and 1945-1980 owned
Lough’s Restaurant. He was a WW II veteran, a member of Rome City United
Methodist Church, American Legion Post 110, Rome City, 40 & 8 No. 642, VFW
Post 2749, Kendallville, Disabled Veterans and VFW. Surviving are his wife; a
daughter, Judy Schrock, Sarasota, Fla.; a sister, Florence Shower, Pa.; a
brother, Cecil, W. Va.; and 4 grandchildren. Graveside services Tuesday

Lough John M "Jack", 54, 415 W. Union St., died of
cancer today at Goshen Hospital. He was born Nov. 19, 1918 to Coy and
Martha (Pollock) Lough. A lifetime resident of the Ligonier area, he was married
in Dayton, O., to Anna Sollenberger. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Martha
Ettinger; his wife; a brother, James, Berea, O.; a sister, Mrs. Marilyn
Pattinson, Boca Raton, Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. Steve Foster, Ligonier, and
Mrs. Kermit Leamon, Goshen; one son, Michael, Ligonier; and four
grandchildren. A veteran of WW II, he was a salesman for Carriage, Inc.,
Millersburg. He was a member of the 1936 basketball team the Ligonier Red
Raiders that won three sectionals in a row. Funeral Saturday at Ulrey

Love Daniel S died Sept. 14, 1891 in Noble County.
He was born in Vermont on Sept. 17, 1818.
He appeared in Noble County in the neighborhood known as the Tamarack in
1845 accompanied by a man named William Newton, both having just returned to an
eastern port from a whaling voyage of 3 years.
He first bought a tract of land in Orange Twp, soon sold it and went to
Augusta in York Twp where he engaged in teaching for several winters.
In 1854 he was elected county treasurer and continued in that office
until 1859 when he was elected county auditor, which office he held until 1863.
In 1856 he married Aurelia Andrews, a teacher. She survives him with 3 children, Alba (Mrs. Phillips),
Forest A. of Des Moines, Iowa and Lillie in Iowa.

Loveall A Viola, 70, died Sunday at the home of a daughter, Mrs.
Helen Rogers, on the Drake Road near Kendallville, from cancer. She was the
daughter of Thomas and Mary Ann Truelove and was a lifelong resident of

Loveall Brenton M, son of William and Marietta Loveall, born June
22, 1876, died Thursday, March 7, 1929 at his home in Jefferson Twp, aged 52
years, eight months and 15 days. He made his home within a mile of where he died
for the entire span of his life. In his boyhood days he attended Hill School,
and from time to time was called from school to labor in the fields. At an early
age he joined the Summit Church and has never relinquished his membership. For a
number of years he has been a member of the North Star Odd Fellows Lodge at
Albion. He leaves his wife, one son, Wilbur of Allen Twp and two small
daughters, Virginia and Helen, at home; and one stepdaughter, Mrs. Melvin Treesh;

Loveall Joseph, 64, who moved from Jefferson Twp to Albion about 4 years
ago, died Saturday, May 23, 1942, at Lakeside Hospital in Kendallville after suffering a diabetic coma May 15. He was born in
Jefferson Twp on March 19, 1878, where he grew to manhood and was actively
engaged in farming for many years. He is survived by his widow; two daughters,
Mrs. Harold Ott and Mrs. Melvin Rea of Albion; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Whan of

Loveall Lydia C, 83, a lifelong resident of this community, died at McCray Hospital Nov. 10, 1965. She was born March 19, 1882 in
Churubusco, the daughter of John and Barbara Boggs. She was married to the late
Joseph Loveall on Nov. 11, 1902 in Albion. She was a member of St. Mark’s
Lutheran Church in Albion. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Melvin Rea of
Dayton, Ohio, and Mrs. Harold Ott of Miami, Fla.; three grandchildren; and two

Loveall William, son of Evins and Harriet Loveall, was born near Maysville, Ind. Feb. 5, 1847,
and died Jan. 21, 1917 at the home of his son Joseph at the
age of 69 years 11 months and 16 days. His
mother died when he was 5 and his father when he was 14.
Two brothers and one sister have also died.
When he was about 18 he came to this county.
He volunteered to serve his country as a substitute for another man and
was in the service the last ninety days. In
1866 he purchased the place in Jefferson Twp now known as the William Loveall
farm. On May 4, 1867 he married Marietta Price of Findlay, Ohio. She
died June 12, 1906. There were 4 children: Mrs. Minnie Lyon-Whan of
Swan Twp, Brenton M. and Joseph F. of Jefferson Twp, and Mrs. Hattie C. Young of
Swan Twp. Four grandchildren survive. Funeral at the Union

Loveless Arthur R, 74, a longtime teacher and former principal of
Cromwell High School, died Monday in Whitley County Hospital of
cancer. He was born Aug. 9, 1894 in Pike County, Ind., the son of Enos and
Mahala (Johnson) Loveless. He was married Aug. 23, 1921 in Petersburg, Ind. to
Marie Wilson. He came to Cromwell in 1922 and has resided here since that time.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, John, Cromwell, and Jack, Leonia, N.J.; one
daughter, Miss Barbara Ann, Albuquerque, N.M.; 8 grandchildren; and two sisters,
Mrs. Rosa Baldwin and Mrs. Nora Baldwin, both of Petersburg. He was a member of
Calvary Lutheran Church, Cromwell Masonic Lodge, Cromwell-Kimmell Lions Club,
American Legion, and a veteran of WW I, serving in France. Services

Loveless John L, 76, formerly of Cromwell, died Aug. 15, 2002 at his
Sebring, Fla. home. A retired dairy farmer, he served in the U.S. Army
during WW II. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Sebring.
He was born Nov. 28, 1925 in Cromwell to Arthur and Marie (Wilson)
Loveless. He married Norma Jean Stahly Aug. 22, 1948 in Wawaka. They
were named Mr. and Mrs. Noble County in 1973. Surviving are his wife; 2
sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael of Newbury, S.C. and Mark and Gail of
Cromwell; 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Rick Rost of Fishers, Rose
and Matt Rickey of Big Long Lake and Ruth and John Santoro of Chicago; a
brother, Jack of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Barbara Loveless of Albuquerque,
N.M. and 7 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son and a brother,
Richard. Memorial service Saturday at Ulrey-Renner Funeral home.

Aug. 1, 1901 in Pike County, the daughter of Ernest and Tina (Rapp)
Wilson. On Aug. 3, 1921 in Petersburg, she married Arthur Loveless.
He died in 1969. She was a member of Cromwell Calvary Lutheran Church and
Sparta Twp Homemakers Club. Surviving are a daughter, Barbara of
Albuquerque; 2 sons, Jack of Leonia, N.J., and John of Cromwell; a brother,
Wilford Wilson of Cromwell; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. A

Loveless Richard Allen, 3, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Loveless, died
Wednesday from injuries suffered when he and his brother were riding across a
field with their father when the tractor struck a bump and he was thrown to the

Lovell Michele J, 27, Kendallville, died Sunday in DeKalb
Hospital of injuries she received in a car-truck accident on fog-shrouded Ind. 8
west of Auburn Nov. 15. She was the driver of an eastbound car which rammed a
Gladieux Refinery truck driven by Ernest Baublitz, Fort Wayne, who was not
injured. He was turning from Ind. 8 onto the I-69 southbound ramp when his truck
was struck by her auto. She was born May 16, 1944 in Dayton, the daughter of
Edward and Dorothy Cole. She is survived by the parents; two children, Lori and
Toby; and two sisters, Mrs. Kathy Merriman, Huntsville, Ala., and Miss Tracy,

Martin, 14, Huntertown, teenage cousins, were killed in a one-vehicle accident
Sunday about 5 miles northwest of Kendallville on the Angling
Road. Charles was born Jan. 6, 1964 in Kendallville to Alex and Betty (Combs)

Lovely William "Bill", 62, 105 Adams St., died Thursday at his residence. He was born in Garrett, Ky., Aug. 12, 1925, the
son of Harrison and Elvalee (Bailey) Lovely. He married Norma Shepherd in
Pikesville, Ky. in 1956. He moved from Kendallville to Avilla 20 years ago and
was a retired employee of Cooper Industrial Corporation, Auburn. He is a member
of Gospel Lighthouse in Kendallville. Surviving are his wife; three daughters,

shortly following a delicate surgical operation last Sunday. She was about 34 years of age and was the daughter of George

Lovett Dola Mae, 89, of R. 1, Kendallville, died Thursday
at Sacred Heart Home, Avilla. Born in DeKalb County Sept. 27, 1894, she was the
daughter of William and Jane (Hovarter) Deetz. On Sept. 18, 1918 in Auburn she
married Lester Lovett, who died Jan. 12, 1972. She helped her husband with the
farm and was a member of Helmer United Methodist Church. Surviving are a son,
Emmett of R. 1, Kendallville; three grandchildren, William and Julie Lovett of
R. 1, Kendallville; and Mrs. Henry (Sandra) Shull of R. 3, Kendallville; and 3

Lovett Harman, 65, a farmer residing one and one-half miles west
of South Milford, committed suicide by shooting himself with a shot gun last Wednesday
. His head was almost torn in pieces. He went into the
yard, placed the end of the gun barrel into his mouth and pulled the trigger.
The family were in the house and Amos Fulk, a son-in-law, was the first to reach
the dead man’s side. Brooding over poor health is supposed to have prompted
this action. A wife and two daughters, Mrs. Amos Fulk and Mrs. John Baughman,

Lovett Lester C, 77, R. 1, died today in McCray Hospital. A
Noble County native, he was born April 3, 1894 to George W. and Nettie (Grose)
Lovett and was married Sept. 19, 1918 in Auburn to Dola Deetz. He lived his
entire lifetime in Noble County. He is survived by the widow; one son, Emmett,
R. 1; a brother, Jesse, McLish Lake, Hudson; and three grandchildren, William,

Lovett Lillie May, 90, a resident of the Kendallville community since
1912, died this morning in the National Nursing Home in LaGrange. Born
Jan. 21, 1881 in Wolcottville, she was the daughter of Cyrus and Catherine
Axel Raber and was married Dec. 25, 1912 in Wolcottville to David William
Lovett. He died in 1958. A sister, Mrs. Pearl Volberding, Watseka, Ill., and a
niece, Mrs. Bahmilla Scranton, Grandview, Ill., are the only survivors. She was
a member of the Christian Church in Kendallville. Funeral Monday in

Heart Home. He was born Oct. 30, 1910, in Chicago to George and Ethel (Brayman)
Loving. On Nov. 28, 1934 , in Gobles, Mich. he married Martha Cummins. He was a
former mail carrier, having retired in 1975. He graduated from Oak Park High
School in 1928 and attended Wheaton College and Moody Bible Institute. He lived
in Noble County since 1985, having moved from South Haven, Mich. Surviving are
his wife; a son, Donald of Tiffin, Ohio; 3 grandchildren and 3

Loving Martha A, 91, of Kendallville, died May 1, 2008 at Shepherd of the
Hill nursing home. She was a sales clerk for Inman's Jewelry Store in
South Haven, Mich., retiring in 1975. She was a member of the First
Christian Church in Kendallville. She was born in South Haven, Mich. on
Aug. 16, 1916 to Edson L. and Laura E. (Ridley) Cummins. She married
Harold Loving on Nov. 28, 1934 in Gobles, Mich. He died Sept. 1,
1995. Surviving are a son, Donald and Rosalie Loving of Tiffin, Ohio; 3
grandchildren, Rachel Myers of Albion, Janet and Scott Rachley of Delta, Ohio,
and Amy Loving of Macomb, Ill.; and 5 great-grandchildren. She was also
preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Jacob in 1989; a brother, Cecil
Cummins; and 4 sisters, Helen Roe, Eva Heinzman, Florence Cummins and Elsie

Low Elizabeth Ann (Hendrix), wife of Nicholas Low, died March 1, 1899, aged 74
years, 5 months and 18 days, at her residence on the Hawpatch. She was born
Sept. 11, 1814 at New Market, Baltimore County, Md.
She was married there Aug. 13, 1835 to Nicholas Low. They soon after came to
LaGrange County, Ind., and settled in Clearspring Twp, where for 52 years they

died Friday in McCray Hospital. He was born April 19, 1962 in

Lowder Thurman Lowell, 56, died Feb. 8, 1995 at Parkview Hospital, Fort
Wayne, from complications of a heart attack. He was born June 23, 1938 in
Garrett, Ky. to Harry B. and Radia Maurine (Bailey) Lowder. On Dec. 24,
1958 in Brimfield he married Sue Wallen. A 43-year resident of
Kendallville, he had worked as a repairman for Dana Corp. in Fort Wayne for 17
years. He was a member of Elks and Moose lodges of Kendallville and a U.S.
Marine Corps veteran. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and
Kathy Lowder of Avilla; a son, Kevin of Indianapolis; 2 brothers, Harold of Fort

resided for four years at Johnson’s Mobile Home Park. Born in Wellston, Mich.

Margaret Been. He was an Army veteran of WW II and retired in 1978 from Coca
Cola Bottling Co. Surviving are two daughters, Gail A. Kem of Muncie and Lori N.

Lower Alton "Bob", 69, (b. 5-28-1888) a lifelong
resident of the Wawaka community, died Oct. 4, 1957 at his home of a
coronary occlusion. For many years he was an employee in the Soil Conservation
Dept. office in Albion. He was a member of the M. E. Church in Wawaka and of the
Knights of Pythias Lodge. Surviving are the widow, Margaretta; three sons,
Olin and Dick of Wawaka, and Robert of Shipshewana; 3 daughters, Mrs.
Roberta Dombrowski of Sacramento, Calif., Mrs. Nellie Goings of Rome City, and
Mrs. Marianne Woolsey of Bluffton; 12 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Dan Rose

Lower Bernard "Pete", 78, R. 3, Wolcottville, died Nov.
22 at his residence. He was born Jan. 31, 1907 in LaGrange County, the son of
Ervin and Maude (Spidel) Lower. He married Edith Harper Aug. 16, 1938 in
LaGrange. He was a retired farmer and former school bus driver for the Prairie
Heights School Corporation. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Carol Strayer,
Richmond, Va., and Beverly McClure of Fort Wayne; a sister, Mildred Hall, Sacred
Heart Home, Avilla; a niece, Jean Deal of Hebron; and two grandchildren.

Lower Beverly May, 76, died Friday in St. Joseph Medical
Center, Fort Wayne. She was a resident of Blue Ridge Trailer Court, Churubusco.
She was born April 16, 1913 in DeKalb County to James Clyde and Julia Eva (Kannel)
Gaff. On April 11, 1936 she married Garman Lower in LaGrange. He died July 19,
1988. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Walter (Rosemary) Aromen of Angola,
and Mrs. Robert (Doris) Conwell of Churubusco; 7 grandchildren and 7
great-grandchildren. Services will be Tuesday in Feller Funeral Home, Waterloo.

Lower David was born in Penn. Sept. 12, 1819; died at his home in South
Milford Oct. 24, aged 86 years 1 month 11 days. He moved with his father from
the place of his birth to Tuscarawas County, Ohio in 1822. In 1843 he married
Anna Maria Showalter and they had 6 children, Ephraim, John,
Isaac, Hanna, Conrad and William. His first wife died in 1856 in Ohio. He moved
to Indiana in 1857 and located in LaGrange County. In 1857 he married Catherine
Menely, who died May 9, 1884. In 1885 he married Anna Bitner. He was a member of
the Church of God for 60 years or more. He leaves one son, 11 grandchildren and
9 great-grandchildren. He was a poor boy but by hard labor and honest toil was
successful in accumulating quite a fortune. ^ 11-17-1905
Lower Edith E, 73, of R. 3, Wolcottville, died Thursday at
McCray Hospital. She was born in Villa Grove, Ill., June 14, 1912 to William and
Nora (Kitchen) Harper. On Aug. 16, 1938 in LaGrange she married Bernard
"Pete" Lower, who died Nov. 22, 1985. She moved to Wolcottville from
East Chicago 40 years ago. She was a registered nurse and retired from McCray
Hospital and had worked part-time for Sacred Heart Home in Avilla. She was a
member of the South Milford Church of Christ and Wolcottville OES. Four sisters
and one brother preceded her in death. Surviving are two daughters, Carol
Strayer of Richmond, Va., and Beverly McClure of Fort Wayne; and two

Lower Edward, 80, died at his home in Indian River, May 19, 1925. The obsequies were held at the
residence May 20. Coming to Indian River 19 years ago for the benefit of his health, his years
spent at Indian River were a pleasure to him. He was a native of Coshocton
County, Ohio, coming to Noble County with his parents, where he grew to
manhood on a farm. He married Mary E. Moree in 1873, both living in
the same neighborhood. In 52 years of married life the longest they had been
apart at one time was 6 days. He leaves the widow, one
sister and three brothers of Indiana. His remains were taken to Kendallville and
buried at Lake View Cemetery. Services were held

Lower Eleanor, wife of D. A. Lower, was killed last Thursday
when the car in which she was riding with her husband was struck by a freight
train at the Breyer Ice Cream Co. crossing in Kendallville. She was born near
Topeka but had practically always resided near Wawaka. Surviving are the
husband; two daughters, Enid and Marguerite; and three sons, Merle of
Kendallville, Gerry of South Bend, and Ford, a lieutenant in the U. S. Aviation
Corps stationed at Long Island, N.Y. Funeral Sunday at Cosperville

residence in Wolcottville. He was born Dec. 14, 1907, the son of Harley and

who died April 1, 1983. He was a retired farmer and employee of Wolcottville
Gravel Co. Surviving are two sons, William of Tenafly, N.J., and Thomas of

Lower Helen Roberta, former Wawaka resident, died (d. 6-29-1979) at
her home in Sacramento, Calif. Friday. Born April 27, 1920 in Wawaka, she was
the daughter of Alton and Margaretta (Randolph) Lower. She moved from Wawaka to
Calif. in 1944 and was a retired Calif. state employee. She was a member of the
Sacramento Presbyterian Church. Survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Donald (Nellie)

Lower John was born in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, Oct. 11, 1844, and moved
to Indiana with his parents when he was about 14 years of
age. He has made LaGrange County his home all the years since he came here. He
was married to Rebecca Martin at the home of her father April 11, 1866. They had
three sons, one of whom died in infancy. David and William, with their
mother, live. The father and brother are deceased. He enlisted at the age of 17 and spent
four years of his minority in putting down the rebellion of 1861. He first
enlisted on Nov. 21, 1861 in Co. D. 44, Ind. Vol. Infantry as private, was
mustered out the 31st day of Dec. 1863 at Chattanooga, Tenn. by
reason of reenlisting as veteran volunteer; reenlisted Jan. 1, 1864 and was
discharged with the rank of sergeant Sept. 14, 1865 at Nashville, Tenn. He has
lived in Milford Twp most all his life and was a member of Ed Temple Post G.A.R.
until it was disbanded. He was also a member of the Masonic order of the Odd
Fellows of the Knights of Pythias. He died at the age of 54 years, two months

1949 in Noble County, a son of Robert and Madonna (McMillan) Lower. He graduated

stroke of apoplexy. His wife, Mary Ann Pollock Lower, died six years ago. He had

Lower Joseph W, 75, of R. 1, LaGrange, died Thursday in
Miller’s Merry Manor. He was born Feb. 15, 1911 in Noble County, the son of
Steven and Mattie Lower. On April 25, 1934 in LaGrange, he married Emma Rowlison.
He retired from Multiplex in LaGrange in 1980 and was a member of Mt. Zion
Lutheran Church and the Odd Fellow Lodge in Kendallville. Surviving are a
son-in-law, Francis Losinski of Sturgis, Mich.; three sisters, Mrs. Lawrence
(Elizabeth) Smith of Walkerton, Mary Shew of Angola, and Kathryn Thompson of
Pleasant Lake; a stepbrother, Paul Johnson of Stroh; and five grandchildren. His

Lower Kevin J, 21, a native of Wawaka, died Friday in his R.
1, Rushville home. He had been ill since birth with a heart condition. He was
born Dec. 31, 1952 to Dick and Carolyn (Gappinger) Lower. He lived in Wawaka
until the family moved to Rushville 11 years ago. He was a 1971 graduate of
Rushville High School and a member of the New Salem United Methodist Church.
Surviving are the parents; three brothers, Randy, Rushville, Greg, Greensburg,
and Tim at home; two sisters, Tresa and Lori, both at home; and a grandmother,

the Joint Twp District Memorial Hospital. He was born July 10, 1911 in Wayne Twp to Charles and Lucretia (Smith) Lower. He was married to
Martha Daughtery Jan. 19, 1944. He was a resident of the St. Mary’s area 22
years and was an employee of Ayers Blacktopping. He was also a WW II Army
veteran. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Lavern (Roslyn) Freeman,

County, Ohio; died Jan. 18, 1898, aged 75 years 10 months and 12 days. She came
to Noble County in 1852 and later moved to DeKalb County where she died at

Lower Mary Anne, daughter of Lancelot and Nancy Masters Pollock, was born
in York Twp near Albion Dec. 10, 1858. She died in the home in Elkhart Twp on
Sept. 21, 1936 at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 11 days. On the 8th of April 1877, she married John A. Lower and the home was
established on the farm which has been their residence for almost 60 years.
Surviving are the husband; two daughters, Mrs. Ernest Nichols of Medford, Okla.,
and Mrs. D. A. Rose; three sons, Daniel, Alton and Russell of this community; 16
grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. John Brandeberry of
West Liberty, Ohio, and a brother, William of Kendallville One sister, Mrs.
Hattie Thomas, and one brother, Curtis Rice, preceded her in death. Funeral was

Lower Olin W, 68, died Friday at Goshen Hospital from
complications following heart surgery. Born Jan. 16, 1914 in Noble County, he
was the son of Alton "Bob" and Margaretta (Randolph) Lower. On
May 1, 1937 he married Opal Wright. He had spent most of his life in Noble
County but had lived in Rushville for a time. He was retired from the Ligonier
Rubber Company and was a member of Cromwell United Methodist Church, Pontiac
Oakland Club and New Salem Lions Club. Surviving are his wife; three daughters,
Mrs. Harold (Diana) Liesing and Mrs. Ted (Rosetta) Owens of Rushville, and Mrs.

Lower Opal, 73, died today at a Rushville nursing home where
she resided. Born Aug. 21, 1912 in Kendallville, she was the daughter of Archie
and Cora (Lieberenz) Wright. On May 1, 1937 she married Olin Lower, who preceded
her in death. She lived most of her life in the Kendallville and Wawaka area.
She was a member of the New Salem Methodist Church. Surviving are three
daughters, Diana Leising and Rosetta Owens of Rushville, and Louise Maze of
Libertyville, Ill.; two sisters, Pauline Curie and Stella Rhea, both of
Kendallville; and 8 grandchildren. A son, Ronald, and a brother also preceded

Lower Orin V "Dick", 73, of Kenton, Ohio, died May 3, 2001 at
his home. He retired from Unifed Feeds of Sheridan, Ind. after 10
years. He attended Manchester College and was a member of St. Johns United
Church of Christ. He was a member of New Salem Lions Club and of the Rush
County Fair Board and Pork Producers. He was born Feb. 3, 1928 in Wawaka
to Alton and Margaretta (Randolph) Lower. He married Carolyn Gappinger,
who died in 1991. On April 18, 1992 he married Sharyn Sprang.
Surviving are his wife; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Teresa Meyer and Lori and
Mark Hoeing of Rushville; 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Greg and Linda Lower of
Adams, Ind., and Tim Lower of Rushville; a stepson; 12 grandchildren and 3
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mindy; 2
sons, Randy and Kevin; 2 brothers, Orlin and Robert; and 3 sisters, Nellie

Friday. His home had been R. 1, Pierceton. Born Aug. 26, 1940 in Kendallville,
he was the son of Olin and Opal (Wright) Lower. He married Betty
Pankey in New Salem Sept. 4, 1965. A graduate of Wawaka High School, he was
assistant project engineer of the Indiana State Highway Dept. He was a member of
the Wawaka United Methodist Church, a life member of the National Rifle
Association and the National Muzzle Loader’s Association. Surviving are his
parents; his wife; two sons, Douglas 4, and Matthew 1, both at home; three
sisters, Mrs. Harold Liesing and Mrs. Ted Owens, both Kendallville, and Mrs.
Malcolm Maze, Plano, Tex.; and his grandfather, Archie Wright of Kendallville.

Lower Russell was born March 2, 1896 at the old home northeast of
Wawaka and died at Newcastle, Ind. Oct. 10, 1941, being past 45 years of
age. His parents were John A. and Mary Ann Lower, and he was one of 6 children.
One brother died as an infant, and his mother died in 1936. He is survived
by his father; two brothers, Alton and Dan of Wawaka; two sisters, Mrs. E. C.
Nichols of Medford, Okla., and Mrs. D. A. Rose, Wawaka. He graduated from the
Wawaka High School in 1917 and for many years had been a member of Cosperville
Baptist Church. On account of ill health he was taken to the State Hospital at
Newcastle on May 11, 1940 where he received good care and for a time improved in
health. Funeral at the Baptist Church at Cosperville on Oct. 13 and burial

Lowther William, who made his home here for several years, died Thursday at the Charles Weingart home north of Kendallville, after an
illness of several months with heart trouble. He had been in a critical
condition for several weeks and on the morning of his death was left alone but a
few minutes, when it was found that death had called him. Funeral

Loxterman Marjorie Ruth, 75, of Las Vegas, died at her residence on
Thursday She was born in Fort Wayne Dec. 19, 1913, the daughter of
Bruce Samuel and Ruth Glenn (Hollar) Peigh. On May 5, 1984 in Las Vegas, she
married Clifford Thomas Loxterman. She lived most of her life in Fort Wayne,
moving to Las Vegas 10 years ago from St. Petersburg, Fla., where she had lived
10 years. She had been a secretary for an investment broker in Fla. and was a
member of St. Christopher Catholic Church, North Las Vegas, Columbia City OES
and Fort Wayne Women of the Moose. Surviving are her husband; a son, Donald G.
Clouse of Kendallville; a sister, Nadine V. Wagner of Convoy, Ohio; five

Loy Ray E, 53, owner of the Ligonier Monument Co. and a director of the
American State Bank here, was found dead yesterday in his car in
the garage at his home by his wife, Laura. He apparently had suffered a heart
attack shortly after returning home from a meeting he had attended Thursday
night. Surviving are his wife; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Loy, Ligonier;
a brother, Claude, near here; and a sister, Mrs. Clem Guntle, Fort Wayne. A
native of Noble County and a WW I veteran, he was a member of the Elks Lodge,
the Presbyterian Church, the American Legion and Masonic Lodge here, and a
member of the Scottish Rite and Shrine at Fort Wayne. Funeral Sunday at

Lozier Helen (Speaker) was born in Seneca County,
Ohio, March 26, 1855, and died in Albion Oct. 4, 1905, aged 50 years, 6
months and 8 days. She married John Lozier in Feb. 1870.
They came to Indiana in 1885 and settled on a farm near Port Mitchell, where
they resided until her health made it imperative that a change from the farm
life with its multitudinous duties to the town be effected. They have since
resided in Albion. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. She is
survived by a husband; one daughter, Mrs. Etta Cole of York Twp; father and
mother, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Speaker of York Twp; two brothers and two sisters.

morning the sad intelligence of the death of their only son, James, who was
visiting relatives at Attica, O. He was about 16 years of age.

Lozier John S was born in Pennsylvania July 16, 1846, and died at Soldiers Home, Dayton, Ohio, Dec. 18, 1928, aged 82 years, 5 months and
3 days. He was the son of John and Charlotte Lozier. When quite young he with
his parents moved from Pennsylvania to Attica, Ohio. When 14 years of age and in
the year 1861 he joined the 164th Ohio Volunteer Infantry and served
his country until the close of the war when he received his honorable discharge.
In Feb. 1870 he married Helen Francis Speaker, and they had five children, the wife, 3 sons and 1 daughter having preceded
him in death. One daughter, Mrs. Mary Etta Cole, survives. He with his family
came to Indiana in the year 1885. On July 26, 1905 he married Mrs. Anna Ballard. There is left
the wife; one daughter, 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Jane Edwards,
Colton, Ohio, Mrs. Grant Smith and Mrs. Mattie Calkins of Toledo, O. Funeral

Home of Northeast Indiana, Fort Wayne. She was born Sept. 13, 1943 in Fort

Tennaco Automotive for 7 years and at Fort Wayne Wire Die Co. for 17
years. She graduated from Central Catholic High School in fort Wayne in
1961 and was a member of Big Lake Church of God. Surviving are a daughter,

Lucas Ettie died on the 6th day of Feb. 1892, age 29 years, 2 months and 26 days. She was born in Noble County Nov. 11, 1862. She was the youngest child of Thimothy and Amy

Lucas Reaves, 82, Civil War veteran and a resident of Noble County for
many years, died at the Old People’s Home near Avilla last Thursday. Death was

Albion; his father Jeff Luce of Albion; an older sister, Jessica Luce, also of

was born Aug. 3, 1896 and was a lifelong resident of the Wolf Lake community.

and Mrs. Pat Schwab; his mother, Mrs. Dorothy Luckey; nine grandchildren;
and a brother, Dr. Robert Luckey. Dr. Luckey was a member of the Masonic Lodge,

Luckey Hazel G, a retired school teacher long active in Democratic
politics, died Saturday in Whitley County Hospital. The widow of
Hugh Luckey who died in 1949, she had served as vice chairman of the Noble
County Democratic Central Committee for a number of years. She was a teacher in
the schools of Noble County, including Albion, Ligonier and Wolf Lake, for 30
years before retiring and had served as Wolf Lake postmistress. She was a member
of Christian Chapel in Merriam, OES in Albion and Pythian Sisters Lodge in Wolf
Lake. Surviving are a son, John, Kimmell, and four grandchildren. The body was
taken to Bonham & Miser Funeral Home, Albion, where services were conducted

Luckey Helen C, 85, Noble Twp, Noble County, died Dec. 10, 2002 at her
home. She was born March 11, 1917 in Knox County, Ill., a daughter of Fred
and Mabel (Payton) Conver. She graduated in 1939 from Purdue University
and was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority at Purdue. On March 24,
1946 she married John Gandy Luckey in the Albion Presbyterian Church. He
died Aug. 26, 1980. She had attended Wolf Lake Baptist Church for many
years. Surviving are 2 sons, John Conver Luckey and his wife, Patricia of
Kimmell, and William R. Luckey of Calif.; a daughter, Susan Hart and her
husband, Edward, of Warsaw; and 5 grandchildren, Jonathan, Joel and Christina
Luckey, Jennifer Cobbs and Elizabeth; 4 great-grandchildren; a sister, Louise
James of Portland, Oregon. She was also preceded in death by a son, Hugh;

at his Wolf Lake home following a heart attack. He had lived in the Wolf Lake

Luckey James E, 73, died at the Methodist Hospital, Fort Wayne, May 14. The cause of his death was
pneumonia. The doctor is survived by his wife; their sons, Hugh, Harold and
Robert with their wives; four grandchildren, John, Joan, Patty and James E.
Luckey; three sisters, Mrs. Lida Estlick, Mrs. D. S. Hontz, and Mrs. J. H.
Starkey; and two brothers, Thomas and Joseph. He was a graduate of Rush Medical
College, Chicago and had practiced his profession in Wolf Lake for more than 40
years. Some years ago Dr. J. E. and his sons, Doctors Robert and Harold, built
and have since maintained the well-known hospital at Wolf Lake. Funeral

Luckey John G, 60, of R. 1 Kimmell, died Tuesday in
Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born Oct. 29, 1919 in Noble County, the
son of Hugh A. and Hazel (Gandy) Luckey. On Oct. 24, 1946 he married Helen
Conver. He was a 1937 graduate of Wolf Lake High School and attended Indiana and
Arizona State Universities. He returned to Noble County where he was a diary
farmer west of Wolf Lake. He is a member of the Wolf Lake Baptist Church, served
on the Noble Twp advisory board and was a member of the REMC board nine years.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Ed (Susan) Hart of R. 4, Warsaw; three
sons, Hugh A. of Houghton, Wis., John Conver of R. 1, Kimmell, and William R. of

Luckey Mable Corena, 55, wife of Joseph Luckey, president of the
Churubusco Bank, died last Friday at her home in Churubusco
following a stroke of paralysis the day before. Burial, Metz Cemetery. Surviving
are her husband; 3 brothers, Jonathan, Daniel and Lewis Hontz of Noble
County; 2 sisters, Mrs. Noah Stump and Mrs. Norvel Metz of Noble County. She was
born in Noble County on Sept. 6, 1878 to Jacob and Hannah Hoke Hontz. In 1905
she married Joseph Luckey. They lived in the Wolf Lake vicinity until 10 years
ago when they purchased land in this district and built the house now occupied
by the Ed Nestels. Three years later they moved to Churubusco. She was a member
of the U. B. Church, the Eastern Star Lodge and was at one time a Pythian

the Kendallville Nursing Home. Born Jan. 15, 1893 to John A. and Haddie (Conley)
Cain, she married Dr. Robert C. Luckey, who died Oct. 6, 1961. She moved to Wolf
Lake from Kendallville in 1934. Surviving are one stepson, Richard Luckey, North
Ridge, Calif.; and two nephews, John and Robert Cain, Kendallville. One brother

Luckey Robert C, about 59, a retired physician and surgeon and lifelong
resident of the Wolf Lake community, died at his home Oct. 6, 1961, of heart
ailment. He was born May 23, 1902, a son of Dr. J. E. and Dorothy Luckey, and
was formerly associated with the Luckey Hospital, which he and his father
established in 1932. He was a member of the Noble County Medical Society,
Indiana State Medical Association and American Medical Association. Survivors
include the widow, the former Nina Cain of Kendallville; a son, Richard of North
Ridge, Calif.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents

Luckey Thomas Adair, a lifelong resident of Noble County, died at
his home in Swan Twp Friday from heart trouble. He was
the son of Robert and Abigail (Adair) Luckey, born Aug. 16, 1868 near
Etna. On Sept. 30, 1903 he married Lucy E. Lewis, who with two children survive,
Roland at home and Mrs. DeMaris Hess of Elkhart; and one little grandson. A
brother, Joseph of Churubusco; and three sisters, Mrs. Jennie Starkey and Mrs.
May Hontz of near Wolf Lake, and Mrs. Lida Estlick of Ruby, Wash. He at
one time operated a drug store in Wolf Lake. Funeral at Wolf Lake

Ludlow Inez R, 91, died Wednesday in Peabody Memorial Health
Center. She was born Nov. 14, 1884 in Kendallville to Bernard and Ida (Lash)
Pullman. She married Samuel R. Ludlow, who died Oct. 14, 1953. She was a member
of the Presbyterian Church in Kendallville. One son, Bernard, preceded her in
death. Surviving is one grandchild. Services will be held at Peabody Memorial

Ludwig Janice E, 69, of Avilla, died August 17, 2012 at her home in Avilla. She was born in Fort Wayne on
September 28, 1942 to Oscar and Josephine (Richard) Coe. She
graduated from Northside High School in 1960 and worked for G.T.E. in Fort Wayne
for about 30 years. She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist
Church in Avilla. Survivors include a daughter, Wendy and John Boszor of
Skinner Lake, a son Jeff Ludwig of Avilla; 3 grandchildren, Faith and Tim
Howard, Benjamin and Sarah Boszor; 3 great-grandchildren, Blaize, Colton and Bria

Ludwig Marie A, 66, of R. 2, Kendallville, died Friday in
Heritage Manor, Ligonier. Born in Mineola, Texas, Oct. 28, 1918, she was the
daughter of John and Nancy (Holland) Alexander. In August 1961 in Lexington,
Texas, she married Thurman Ludwig. She moved from Magnolia, Texas to
Kendallville in Nov. 1985. She had been a clerk for Montgomery Ward. Surviving
are her husband; a daughter, Carol Leschber of Thorndale, Texas; two sons, James
Story of Brenham, Texas, and Wilbur Ray of Houston, Texas; a stepson, Peter
Ludwig of Kendallville; 12 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. Two

Lueder Theodore was born in Tesshow, Magdebury, Prussia Jun 8,
1800, and died at the home of his son-in-law, Bernard Kollman, in
Kendallville July 9, aged 90 years 1 month and 2 days. In 1862 he came with his
family to this country and settled in Kendallville. About 25 years ago he united
with the Evangelical Association. Four years ago his companion, with whom he
lived 60 years in holy wedlock, died. Three of his children also preceded him in
death. He leaves 2 children, 21 grandchildren and 5

Luhman Geraldine E, 79, died Monday in Kendallville Nursing
Home. She resided at R. 1, Rome City, with her son and was formerly of Decatur.
She was born in Dunkirk, Ohio, Feb. 7, 1907 to Charles and Mary Jane (Davis)
Zeigler and retired in 1969 after 5 years with Decatur Industries. She was a
member of the First Baptist Church, Decatur and American Legion Post 43.
Surviving are one son, Charles of Rome City; and a half-brother, Earl Chamberlin

He moved to this area from Fla. 16 years ago. He had been a carpenter. Surviving

He was born June 13, 1932 to Harold and Audra (Word) Luke. His father preceded
him in death. He married Pearl Friskney on June 17, 1950 in Mt. Pleasant Church,
Albion. She died Dec. 26, 1988. On June 10, 1989 in Wawaka he married Sondra
Cunningham. He had lived in Albion since 1955, coming from Kendallville. He was
a retired mechanic, farmer and part owner of Truelove Bros. in Albion. He was a
member of Brimfield Lions Club, Albion Eagles Lodge, had been a square dance
caller for more than 50 years, and had been 4-H tractor maintenance leader for

Lunceford Jay Delbert, the son of Richard and Louise Lunceford, was born
at Auburn, Ind. on June 10, 1873. His mother died when he was 11 years of age,
after which he lived with his grandmother until he was 16, in and around
Waterloo. He came to Kendallville and married Mrs. Allie VanFerson and remained
here operating a restaurant and lunch car, which he sold and then moved to
Kansas City and other places until his health entirely failed him. He again
returned to Kendallville, where he died on May 28, 1916 at
the age of 42 years, 11 months and 18 days. Funeral was held from the residence

Lundy Mason C, 66, of R. 3, Albion, died Wednesday in Manatee
Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Fla., following a heart attack at his
Fla. residence. Born in Switz City, April 21, 1912, he was the son of Frank and
Minerva (Dixon) Lundy. He married Edna E. Jennings in Kendallville Oct. 23,
1937. He was a lifetime area resident and had spent the last three winters in
Fla. He was a retired maintenance man for Kendallville Foundry and a member of
Moose Lodge in Kendallville. Survivors are the wife; four daughters, Mrs. Claude

Lung Arthur L, 55, resident of the Lisbon community the last 17 years,
died Sunday in his home east of Lisbon. His death followed a long
illness but was directly attributed to a heart attack. Born January 15, 1892 in
Butler Twp, DeKalb County, he was a son of Noah A. and Sarah Lung. On December
21, 1921, he married Goldie Chamberlin, who survives. A member of the Church of
Christ, Kendallville, he was a well-known farmer. Surviving besides the widow is
the father; two daughters, Mrs. Harold Dannenberg near Garrett, and Mrs. Harry
Wickersham, Auburn; four sisters, Mrs. Henry Emme, Butler, Mrs. Lulu Martz and

disease. She was born June 30, 1876 at Ari and lived for 33 years near
Cedar Creek in Butler Twp. She married Albert A. Lung in 1908. He

(Kromhuff) Lung. He was a retired farmer and the oldest member of the Albion Eagles Lodge.

Lung Ella, 78, was found dead of an apparent heart attack this morning at
her Cromwell home. She was found after she failed to appear for work at a local
restaurant. She was born Sept. 8, 1892 and has lived her entire life in the Lake
Wawasee and Cromwell area. Her husband, Preston, died July 9, 1964. She was a
member of the Wawasee Lakeside Chapel. Several nieces are her only survivors.

Lung Emma N, 90, died last Thursday at the home of her son,
Merritt, five miles west of Cromwell, after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage two
weeks previously. Also surviving are a brother, Charles Galloway of Toppenish,

great-grandchild. She was a native and lifelong resident of the Cromwell

Lung Earl, the young son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Lung, died at the home of
his parents near Kimmell, the result of blood poison. About 3 weeks ago he went
to jump on a wagon while in motion, when his left limb was caught in the wheel,
sustaining serious injury. Last Friday the physician though it necessary to

Tuesday at McCray Hospital. She was born April 7, 1900 at Sparta to John and

was the daughter of William McClelland and was born in Albion. Most of her life

Lung Kenneth R, 75, of Morehead City, N.C. was born Dec. 27, 1941 in
Kendallville, the son of Forrest and Audrey (Walker) Lung. On Sept. 9, 1934 he
married Ruth Weil. He was employed by Flint & Walling 1933-52 and was
well-known as an outstanding designer of pumps and windmills. Surviving are his

She was born October 13, 1918, in Garrett to Paul and Rosina Muzzillo.
She married Ford R. Lung on April 21, 1945, in Garrett. He died in 1997.
In her younger days she worked at her father’s tavern, known to many as
Martin’s in downtown Garrett. She also worked at Electric Specialty Motors in
the late 1960s. She was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Rosary Society, and Harvest House.
Surviving are her children, Robert (Mary) Lung of Auburn, Tina
(Steve) Baker of Aiken, S.C., and Gerald (Trinita) Lung of Fort Wayne;4
grandchildren, Erin (Rodney) Edgar, Matthew (Christy) Lung, Jenna Lung, and

Lung Veterinary Clinic in Ligonier for many years. Surviving are her husband;

Lung Ora (Mrs. Nicholas), residing one mile west of Butler Center,
died Sunday at the Donald Sollenberger home, five miles north
of Kendallville. She took seriously ill with a hemorrhage of the lungs while en
route to Wolcottville with her husband and their nephew and wife, Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Lung of S. Peters St. They stopped at the Sollenberger home. A physician
was summoned from Kendallville, but she died an hour later. She was born at Avilla on January 30, 1860. She and Mr. Lung
were married on March 30, 1880 and lived on the farm near Butler Center for more
than forty years. Surviving besides the husband are three sons, A. C. of Butler
Twp, Merritt C. of Wolcottville, and Forrest E. of Kendallville; two brothers,
Charles Lobdell of Mark Center, O., and Orlan Lobdell of California; a sister,
Mrs. Thomas Kelham of Avilla; three half-brothers, Lewis Lobdell of Chicago,
Urie Lobdell of Fort Wayne, and John Lobdell of California; and eight

Lung Ruth M, 97, of Kendallville, died July 26, 2005 at Provena Sacred
Heart Home. She was born September 16, 1907 in Indiana County, PA. to
Andrew Lincoln and Essie (Cocanower) Ober. On June 6, 1937 near Corunna
she married Chester D. Lung. He died June 18, 1990. She retired in
1970 from the East Noble school system after a 40-year teaching career in
several area schools. She was a graduate of Garrett High School and
Manchester College. Surviving are a daughter, Rita Caldwell of Kendallville; sister, Melissa Taylor
of Goshen; granddaughter, Kristina (Ken) Wisner of Kendallville;

Lung Walter L, 88, died Wednesday in his rural Garrett home. He was
a teacher for 40 years in Noble, Whitley and DeKalb County schools. He was

teaching degree from Manchester College. He was an active member of the
Cedar Creek Church of the Brethren, where he was recognized last year for being
a member of the church for 78 years, the longest of any current member. He
was a member of Gideons International and the Indiana Association of Retired
Teachers He was born June 23, 1910 in Benzonia, Mich., to Albert
and Catherine (Frisbie) Lung. He married Lucille Bradley on
June 4, 1935 in the Cedar Creek Church of the Brethren. Surviving are his
wife; 2 sons, Jan of Angola and Larry of New Palestine; one daughter, Marsha

2008 at Parkview Noble Hospital. He was a truck driver most of his

Luther James E, 61, died Feb. 13, 2005. He
was born at the family farm in Albion. He retired, in 2000, after 34 years with Navistar Corp. He
served his country as a 21-year member of the Air National Guard, retiring in
1999. He was a member of New Haven United Methodist Church, American Legion Post
246, F&AM Lodge 740, and FOE Lodge 3164. He is survived by his wife, Karon; son, Jeremy B. Luther of New Haven; daughters,
Mindy L. Bussard and LeeAnna (Dan) Rondot, both of New Haven; 2 stepsons; a

had bought a load of hogs at a sale and was aiding in unloading them at the time

Lutter Alberta, 79, of rural LaOtto, died July 27, 2004 at her
residence. She was born in Fort Wayne, the daughter of Irwin and Daisy
(Gordon) Green. On October 19, 1946 she married Clarence S. Lutter in
Churubusco. She lived in the LaOtto area all of her married life.
Surviving are her husband; a son, Steven K. of Mishawaka; a daughter, Karen S.
Sweeney of rural LaOtto; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She
graduated from Churubusco High School in 1944 and was a member of Messiah
Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne and the Churubusco OES. She worked in

Lutter Beverly A, 76, LaOtto, died November 4, 2013, at Parkview
Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. She was born on February 19, 1937
in LaOtto, a daughter of Dalton and Hazel (Pepple) Rhodes. On October 5,
1953 she was married in Columbia City to James E. Lutter. Employed at Dana
Corporation in Churubusco for 22 years, she retired from there in 1999. She was
a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in LaOtto and Churubusco Order of the
Eastern Star 136. Her husband died January 28, 2007. Surviving are
her sons Randy J. (Diane) Lutter and Dexter A. (Cindy) Lutter, both of LaOtto; a
sister Lavonne (Bob) Householder of LaOtto; her grandchildren, Renee (Chae)

Lutter Clarence S, 91, of LaOtto, died Feb. 2, 2014, at the
Chandler House in Kendallville. He was employed at B.F. Goodrich, Woodburn, and
retired in 1986 after 25 years. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church,
Huntertown Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Fort Wayne, Fort Wayne Shrine, and Fort
Wayne York Rite. He spent his youth in Knox and moved to LaOtto in 1940. He
graduated from Huntertown High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army Air
Corp during World War II. He was born on Jan. 9, 1923, in Chicago to William F.
and Freddonna (Yarian) Lutter. He married Alberta Green on Oct. 19, 1946. She
died July 27, 2004. Surviving are a son, Steven K. Lutter of Mishawaka; a

School; served in the U.S. Army and had formerly been employed at J.I. Case in
Churubusco. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in LaOtto;
Huntertown Lodge 689 F&AM; and had served on the LaOtto Volunteer Fire
Department many years. He was born March 2, 1933 in Starke County to
Wilhelm Fredrick and Fredonna (Yarian) Lutter. He married Beverly Rhodes

Manor in Garrett. He was born in Knox July 7, 1897. He married Fredonna
Yarian Sept. 1, 1921. She died June 2, 1981. A resident of Noble County most of
his life, he was a farmer and member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in LaOtto.

Luttman Beatrice A, 65, was born March 17, 1907 in Hamilton to Earl and
Letha Howard and married Jennings Luttman Dec. 26, 1925. He survives. She was a
retired elementary school teacher having taught in DeKalb and Steuben Counties.
She belonged to the Hudson Garden Club and Retired Indiana School Teacher’s
Association. She was a member of the Hudson United Methodist Church and its WSCS.
She died April 12 of a sudden heart attack. Surviving in addition
to the husband are two sons, Don of R. 2, Avilla and Roger of Saline, Mich.; two
sisters, Mrs. Ann Cummins of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Marion Alexander of

Fort Wayne since 1942 and was born August 8, 1902 on a farm near Corunna, the

Garrett. He worked at the B&O Shops in Garrett. In 1934 he became employed
as power engineer at Slick’s Laundry. Surviving are his wife, a sister, Mrs.

died in May 1954. She had worked for Sacred Heart Home for 15 years and was a
member of American Legion Post 240 Auxiliary in Avilla. Surviving are a

McCray Hospital of a heart condition. He was born July 27, 1907, the son of
David and Gertrude (Griffith) Luttman. On April 27, 1967 in Kendallville he
married Isabella Rice. He moved from Garrett to Steinbarger Lake in 1963. He
retired in July 1972 as an engineer of the B&O Railroad. He was general
chairman of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers, a member of the
Masonic Temple, Scottish Rite, Eagles, Elks and Moose. Surviving are his wife;
two daughters, Mrs. William Colen, Marion, and Mrs. David Jones, Fremont; a
stepdaughter, Mrs. Roger Newman, Wawaka; and a stepson, Herman Lehman, Sturgis;

Lutz Robert G, 55, former Blue Lake and Green Center resident of DeBary,
Fla., died Nov. 2 in VA Hospital in Fla. He was born June 7, 1922 to William and

cement contractor in the Fort Wayne area. His first wife, Marilyn, died in 1970.

Luxemburg William Lloyd, 85, died June 25, 2005 at Provena Sacred Heart
Home, Avilla. He was born Dec. 30, 1919 near Mt. Pleasant, in Perry County
to William and Elva (Lampkins) Luxemburg. He married Ethel Miller on May
4, 1949 in Owensboro, Ky. He was a farmer and self-employed carpenter and
was associated with the Jehovah Witnesses in Kendallville. Surviving are
his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Jan of Kendallville; and
granddaughter and her spouse, Christina and Rob Hoag; a great-granddaughter, Ivy
Hoag; and a sister, Elsie Chandly of Grandview, Ind. A brother and a

Lybarger Roy Forest, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Lybarger, was born in
Wayne County, Ohio in 1884. When he was 3 years of age his parents moved to
Kendallville, where they have lived ever since. In May 1904 Roy was thrown from
his carriage and seriously injured, from which he never fully recovered. Early
in January he slipped and fell on the ice, striking the back of his head, the
result of which was congestion of the brain. He died Jan. 29, 20 years 9 months
and 4 days old. He leaves a father, mother, 2 brothers and one sister. Funeral at the Church of Christ in Kendallville. ^ 2-10-1905
Lyman Calista, daughter of John and Ann Longyear, was born near
Kendallville March 18, 1858. She died July 20, aged 35 years 4 months and 2
days. She married Milton S. Lyman March 30, 1882. They had one child who died after a few days. She leaves a husband, a mother, 2 brothers

Lyman Thomas R was born in Northfield, Mass., May 6, 1819 and died Dec.
21. He was married to Angeline Moore in 1850. She and 3 children, Milton, Elmer
and Annie, survive. He came to Kendallville in 1858 and engaged in business.
Shortly after this he became associated with Hiram McCray in the produce
business. In 1875 he retired from the firm and purchased the farm upon which he
lived to the time of his death. He was a member of Kendallville Lodge No. 276,

born Oct. 12, 1891 in Orange Twp to Orville and Clara (Conley) Rimmel.

1964. She was a co-owner of Rimmel Hat Shop and a member of the First
Presbyterian Church, Kendallville, the American Legion Auxiliary and BPW.

Monday in Goshen Hospital. Born July 29, 1935 in Noble County, she was the
daughter of Albert and Edna (Hougendobler) Leamon. Her mother survives in
Kendallville. On Sept. 21, 1955 in Kendallville she married Duane Lynch, who
died Jan. 25, 1988. A graduate of Kendallville High School, she moved to Goshen
from Kendallville in 1955. She was employed by Kirsch Co. in Middlebury.

Lynch Michael, eldest son of Mrs. Michael Lynch, was born in this city
Aug. 9, 1864 and lost his life while on duty as a railroad employee at Chicago
Feb. 7, aged 35 years 5 months and 28 days. He leaves a wife, 2 young daughters,
a mother, 3 sisters and 4 brothers. Funeral from the Catholic Church at
Avilla Sunday with interment at the cemetery there. ^ 2-16-1900

Lyon Athol Biggs, 51, wife of Graham S. Lyon, died at her home here
Monday following a stroke of apoplexy Sunday. She was the daughter
of the late Arthur Biggs, Noble-Whitley circuit court judge. Surviving are the
husband; two daughters, Mrs. Lyle Schuman of Madison, Wis., and Miss Barbara, a
student at the University of Wis.; and her mother, Ligonier. Funeral

Lyon Jane, 89, of Swan Twp died Sunday at the Hope
Hospital in Fort Wayne. She is survived by two sons, William of Howe and Jason
of Swan Twp. Funeral this morning at the Swan M. E. Church. Burial, Swan

Lyon Jason, son of Lenard and Jane Lyon, was born in Swan
Twp Oct. 28, 1860, died at his home in Swan Twp Sept. 8,
1912, age being 51 years, 9 months and 11 days. On Sept. 18, 1898 he married Minnie V.
Loveall. He was afflicted with cancer of the throat
and for several months has suffered much, and death came as a relief to him. His
age was 51 years, 10 months and 10 days. He is survived by a wife and one
brother, his father and mother having preceded him in death, the latter dying only a few months ago. The funeral was at Swan M. E. Church Tuesday.

Lyon Lenard was a native of Jefferson County, New York, born in Leray Twp
Aug. 16, 1816. He came to Noble County in 1843 and settled in Swan Twp on land
he occupied until his death. In 1850 he married Jane E. Knapp, and they had five children, two of whom preceded them
in death. He died at his home in Swan Twp on the 28th day of last July (1895). He was
an active member of the "Regulators" in the late ‘50’s. An attack
of hip disease at the age of 16 seriously threatened his life, and for 5 years
he struggled uncertainly between life and death. He partially recovered, but
during his whole after life was afflicted, and his physical energies impaired.
His condition governed his occupation and he became a school teacher, continuing
in that honorable and useful avocation for many years. + Clippings book

Lyon Lucille, 63, of Skinner lake, R. 1, Albion, died Saturday (d. 10-20-1979)
in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born Nov. 10, 1915
in Wren, Ohio, she was the daughter of Roy and Bessie (Wyburn) Finkhousen. She
married Arthur C. Lyon June 26, 1938 in Poneto. She moved to Skinner Lake three
years ago from Fort Wayne. She was a retired nursery school teacher and member
of Asbury United Methodist Church in Albion. Survivors are her husband; a
daughter, Mrs. Michael (Vicki) Banks of R. 5, Columbia City; a son, Richard K.
of Tallahassee, Fla.; and two grandchildren. Funeral Tuesday in Brazzell

Lyons Alice, 73, died Thursday at her home in Swan of a heart
attack. She had been a resident of Swan for the past 43 years. Surviving are a
son, Verl, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Lydia Simon, Kendallville and Mrs. Claude
Lung, Beulah, Mich.; and one brother, Curtis Sollenberger, Beulah, Mich. Funeral Monday from the Cedar Creek Church. Burial, Cedar Chapel Cemetery.

Lyons Alice, 76, died Friday in McCray Hospital. She has lived here since
1930. Surviving are the husband, Lester Verl; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Gralah,
Gary; one sister and three brothers. She was a member of the Avilla Methodist
Church. The body was taken to L. E. Berhalter & Son Funeral Home where
services were held Monday. Burial, Swan Cemetery. ~ 1-12-1961
Lyons Lena, 85, (Mrs. Verl) died Saturday at the Odd
Fellows Home in Greensburg, Ind. Funeral March 4 in the chapel at
Greensburg. Burial was in the cemetery there. ~ 3-7-1974
Lyons Lester Verl, 83, died July 1at the Odd Fellows Home in Greensburg.
He and his wife had resided in Avilla until a month ago. He had a
shop where he repaired TV’s and radios and was a member of Ben Hur and the Odd
Fellows Lodge at Kendallville. His wife, Lena, is the only survivor. Burial, Odd

Lytell Nora E, 87, formerly of Elkhart, died Monday at the
Crows-Haven Nursing Home, Fort Wayne. She was born May 18, 1897 in Hamilton and
on Jan. 14, 1914 in Auburn she married William J. Lytell. He died Nov. 30, 1969.
She was a member of the Simonton Lake Baptist Church. Surviving are four
daughters, Mrs. Richard (Lorrain) Mangum of Syracuse, Mrs. Ed (Leanna) Walerko
of Elkhart, Mrs. Max (June) Strater of Albion, and Mrs. Stanley (Norma Jean)
Bender of Fort Wayne; four sons, Larsen E., Paul W., and George W. of Elkhart,
and Orrie L. of Fort Myers, Fla.; 26 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and
2 great-great-grandchildren. Four brothers and three sisters preceded her in
death. Services Thursday at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home,

Lytle Ira, 68, former Kendallville resident, died Sunday at
Sturgis Hospital. He had resided the past 20 years in Sturgis, Mich. He was born
March 22, 1908 in LaGrange to Frank and Addie (Canfield) Lytle. On Aug. 7, 1940
he married Helen Brady in Kendallville. He was formerly employed by McCray and
Sea Maid Mfg. Co. in Kendallville. He also worked for Process Metals, Sturgis.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; two sons, Ira Lee and Ronnie of Sturgis; two
brothers, Merle, Miami, Fla., and George, Grand Rapids, Mich.; and five
grandchildren. One son, Larry, and two sisters preceded him in death. Services in Foglesong Funeral Home, Sturgis. Burial, Orange Cemetery. + 2-?-1977
Lytle Martha, 32, drowned while wading in White River southwest of
Indianapolis June 11, 1948. She was swept off her feet into a strong current and
became panic stricken, then disappeared downstream where her body was found 1000
feet away. Her son, William, 13, has been living at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy
Mills near Roanoke, Ind. Her brother, John Wood, lives at Indianapolis; a
sister, Mrs. Carrol Goldwood, Columbia City. She has three half-sisters, Mrs.
Clyne Miles, Roscoe, Calif., Mrs. Robert Wolfe and Mrs. Sidney Bryant, Albion;
two half-brothers, Richard A. Wood, Churubusco, and Robert Wood, Albion. Her
parents are Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wood of Albion. Funeral Sunday at
Roanoke with interment at Andrews, Indiana. + 6-?-1948
