Lachanski Felix, 88, died Feb. 16, 1994 at his Wolcottville home. He was born in Chicago Jan. 1, 1906, the son of
Joseph and Frances Lachanski. He was a carpenter and member of Local 1485
Carpenters Union and St. Gaspar Catholic Church, Rome City. He married
Mable Brush, who preceded him in death. Surviving are a son, Harry of
Wolcottville; 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Funeral Saturday

Lackey George K, 55, former traffic
manager of the Hayes Freight Lines, Inc., in Fort Wayne, died Monday
at his home in Swan. He was a former owner of the Avilla Hotel and prior to that
time had been engaged as manager of a dance band. He also operated a grocery
store at Swan and was a member of Summit City Lodge F. & A.M., Scottish
Rite, Mizpah Shrine, the Musicians Union of Fort Wayne and the Moose Lodge at

LaConte Joseph, 92, of Lakeland, Fla., died June 3, 2009 at Valencia
Hills Health & Rehabilitation Center in Lakeland. He was a U.S. Army
veteran of WW II and retired in 1979 from the U.S. Postal Service. He was
born Aug. 21, 1916 in Newark, N.J. to Nicholas and Rafaelle (Vitello) LaConte.
He married Anna Battaglio on June 9, 1942 in Alabama. She died April 11,
1986. On Aug. 3, 1995 he married Mabel Mello in Lakeland. Surviving
are his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Floyd Heltzel of Rome City; 3
stepchildren; 2 grandchildren, Joseph and Michelle Heltzel and Donna Rasler; 3
great-grandchildren, Sirena and Tristan Conley and Jacey Rasler; 3 brothers,
Nicholas and Samuel LaConte of N.J., and Gerald LaConte of Va.; and a sister,
Helen Grippaldi of N.J. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter,
Tricia Heltzel; a brother, John LaConte; and 3 sisters, Mary D'Amato, Connie
Albanese and Faye Aquilante. Funeral June 8 at St. Gaspar Catholic Church,

Lacroix Wilmer, 15, school boy of Kendallville, died Monday from
concussion of the brain received in diving exercises in a physical training
class at the city schools. He dove into a mattress and was carried unconscious
from the floor. He partially recovered and went back to classes but suffered a
relapse Sunday. + 5-?-1926
LaCross Theodore William, two-day old grandson of Mrs. Ralph Ober,
LaOtto, died Tuesday in Lutheran Hospital. The parents are Mr. and Mrs. William
T. LaCross, Fort Wayne. Graveside services Wednesday in Wauseon, Ohio.

LaCross William T "Bill", 69, LaOtto, died August 14, 2001 in
Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was an electrician at Mossberg
Industries for 20 years, retiring in 1997. He lived in rural LaOtto and
was a LaOtto resident for 51 years. He was a Korean Conflict veteran of
the U. S. Navy, serving aboard the U.S.S. Yarnall. He was a member of
American Legion Post 82 and the Korean Conflict Veterans Association in Fort
Wayne. He was born November 5, 1931 in Alma, Mich. His mother, Ruby
Ober, survives in Kendallville, and his father, Theodore J. LaCross,
preceded him in death. He married Kathryn Buckland on May 26, 1978 in
Auburn. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Eleen Marks of Garrett; 2
stepdaughters, Rhonda Isham and Lori Beverly of Garrett; a stepson, James Murray
of Cleveland, Ohio; a sister, Barbara LaCross of LaOtto; 5 grandchildren and 4
great-grandchildren. One brother, Robert LaCross, and his stepfather,
Ralph Ober, also preceded him in death. Services in Thomas Funeral Home,

Ladd Mary G Walker, 64, died Saturday in IU Medical Center in
Indianapolis. She was born Oct. 24, 1931 in Noble County to Alvin and
Dollie M. (Wheeler) Baker. She married Carl Walker in 1951. She
attended Ligonier Church of Christ. Surviving are 3 daughters, Gail Moser
and Carol "Boomy" Mast of Ligonier and Sandra Kay of Zionsville; a
sister, Jeanette Dyarman of Albion; and 5 grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by a sister, Virginia Redman. Funeral Wednesday in Ligonier
Evangelical Church. Burial will be private. + 4-26-1996
Ladig Benjamin R, 23, of Wolf Lake, died Feb. 14, at Parkview Whitley
Hospital. He was a 2000 graduate of Central Noble High School. He
was born April 1, 1982 in Columbia City to Brian and Kathy (Appleton) Ladig.
Surviving are his mother and stepfather of Albion; his father and stepmother of
Wolf Lake; a sister, Jessica of Columbia City; stepbrothers and sisters;
grandparents, Robert and Leila Appleton of Kimmell and Maxine Ladig of Wolf
Lake. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Cecil and Mildred
Harrison, Donald Ladig and Alice Kline. Services Feb. 18 at Smith &

Ladig Donald R, 62, died Aug. 20, 1984 at the VA Hospital in Fort Wayne.
He was born in Allen County to Norbert and Clara (Mieleszko) Ladig. A lifetime
resident of the area, he was a welder at the Dana Corporation in Churubusco and
a veteran of WW II. He was a member of the Columbia City American Legion.
Surviving are his mother in Wolf Lake; a daughter, Alisa Lock of Columbia City;
five sons, Lon, Steven, Jeffrey and Brian of Wolf Lake, and Edward of
Churubusco; two sisters, Norma Davidsen of Goshen and Sally Reed of Wolf Lake;
and 8 grandchildren. Services Thursday at Ulrey-Renner Funeral

Ladig Louise J, 37, died Monday in Mercy Medical Hospital in
Springfield, Ohio. She was born April 29, 1948 in Garrett, the daughter of
Charleen L. (Wilson) and the late Albert Lash of Avilla. She and her husband,
Gene, were married May 25, 1984. Surviving are her mother on E. Albion St.; her
husband; one son, Shawn at home; two stepsons, Jeffrey and Joseph Ladig of Fort
Wayne; two sisters, Mrs. Steven (Joyce) Sims, Garrett, and Mrs. Gail
(Beth) Allread, Bluffton; four brothers, Fred, Pittsburgh, Pa., Dennis,
Bryan, Ohio, Jeffrey, Avilla, and Samuel, Auburn. She was a member of St. Mary’s
Catholic Church where mass was conducted August 8. Burial, St. Mary’s

Ladig Lowell S, 63, who had resided at Loon Lake until retiring to
Arizona 15 years ago, died Aug. 4, 1983 in Yuma, Ariz. he was a former employee
of Weatherhead in Syracuse. Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Yuma; two sons,
Larry of Wolf Lake and Steve of Yuma; a daughter, Donna Vincent of Yuma; his
mother, Clara Mieleszko of New Paris; two sisters, Sally Reed of Wolf Lake, and
Norma of Benton; a brother, Donald of Columbia City; several grand and
great-grandchildren. Funeral and interment were in Arizona on Aug. 8. + 8-4-1983
Ladig Maxine, 83, of Wolf Lake, died October 8, 2013, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
She was born on January 11, 1930, to Ruth (Erdly) Edward Waters. She married Donald
Ladig in 1948. He preceded her in death in 1984. She was preceded in death by
2 brothers, Max “Bud” Waters and Carl Waters, and a sister, Mildred
Smith. Ben Ladig, a grandson, also preceded her in death. She attended Wolf Lake High School. She ran her own restaurant in Wolf
Lake called Mom’s Coffee Shop.

Ladig Sylvia Irene, 83, of Fort Wayne, died Dec. 5 in Hospice Home in
Fort Wayne. She was born July 27, 1912 in Allen County. She married Gordon H.
Ladig. She had retired in 1981 as a waitress at Gardner’s and Hall’s
restaurants. She was a member of Calvary Temple. Surviving are her husband; 3
sons, Wilbur D. "Bill" and John R. of Fort Wayne, and Paul E. of
Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Ruth Turner of Fort Wayne; 8 brothers, Walter Opliger
of Albion, Carl Opliger of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Kenneth Opliger and Edward
Opliger of Fort Wayne, Donald Opliger of Leo, Richard and Charles Opliger of
LaOtto, and David Opliger of Elgin, S.C.; 13 grandchildren; and 19

Laferty Dorothy Duty, 75, died Friday in Sacred Heart Home in
Avilla. She was born in Hindman, Ky., on April 18, 1919 to William and
Kanzella (Napier) Perkins. In 1934 she married John Andrew Duty, who died
in 1947. In 1978 she married Raymond Laferty, who also preceded her in
death. She moved to this area in 1949 and retired from Lyall Electric in
Wolcottville and was a member of Community Baptist Church. Surviving are a
son, James Duty of Wolcottville; 4 sisters, Dora Lawson of Corunna, Ruth Madden
of Dayton, Ohio, Lorraine Parker of McGuffy, Ohio, and Carol Smith of Hindman; 2
brothers, Earnest Perkins of Stroh, and Tobe Perkins of Hindman; 4 grandchildren
and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, John Thorn
Duty in 1977; and 2 sisters, Ella Mae Smith and Wanda Perkins. Funeral

LaFevor C Oscar, 62, state bee inspector from LaOtto, died
last Saturday in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, of a heart condition. Born Dec.
21, 1902 in Allen County, he was the son of Samuel and Cora LaFevor. In 1930 he
married Bertha Pepple in Auburn, and they had resided in LaOtto 21 years.
Surviving besides the wife are a daughter, Mrs. Joyce Ihrie of Kendallville,
five grandchildren; a brother, Louis of Fort Wayne; three sisters, Mrs. Della
Hippenhammer of R. 3, Kendallville, Mrs. Pearl Copenhaver of Goshen and Mrs.
Fredonna Price of Lynn. Service Monday in LaOtto Wesleyan Methodist Church.

LaFevor Fern E, 76, R. 2, Avilla, died Monday in Parkview
Hospital, Fort Wayne. She was a Watkins products dealer for 12 years and had
worked at Tri-Chem Paint. She was a member of the Garrett Nazarene Church. She
had made 63 quilts in her lifetime. She was born April 25, 1913 in Bright to the
late John and Mabel (Grubbs) Liddle. On June 17, 1944, she married Paul LaFevor
in Lawrenceburg. Surviving are her husband; two sons, Larry of Avilla, and
Delmar of Fort Wayne; one brother, Harold of Spurger, Texas; one sister, Mildred
Nowlin of Versailles; and 10 grandchildren. Services Friday in the

LaFevor John H, 63, was found dead at the home of a sister, Mrs. Stella
Ditmars, near LaOtto, Friday. He had suffered a heart attack. Surviving
is one son, Paul, with whom he made his home; three grandchildren; five sisters,
Mrs. Stella Ditmars, Mrs. Pearl Copenhaver, Goshen, Mary Fritz, Kendallville,
Della Hippenhammer, Kendallville, and Mrs. Fredonna Price; and two brothers,
Lynn, LaOtto and Lewis, Fort Wayne. Services Sunday in the

LaFevor Paul F, 82, Avilla, died May 21, 2002 at Provena Sacred Heart
Home at Avilla. He was born April 7, 1920 in DeKalb County to John and
Edna (Heitz) LaFevor. He married Fern Liddle on June 17, 1944, in Bright,
Ind. She died in April 1990. Surviving are 2 sons and
daughters-in-law, Larry and Kay LaFevor of Avilla and Delmar and Ruth LaFevor of
Sanford, Mich.; 2 daughters and one son-in-law, Edna and Gary Rapp of
Churubusco, and Delores LaFevor of Fort Wayne; 10 grandchildren and 15
great-grandchildren. A lifelong Avilla resident, he retired in 1983 from
Tokheim in Fort Wayne with 33 years of service. Services in Garrett

LaFevor-Fetter Bertha B, 101, died Nov. 9, 2011 at Provena Sacred
Heart Home in Avilla. She was born in Garrett on Oct. 31, 1910, the
daughter of Daniel and Goldie (Freeman) Pepple. She married Oscar LaFevor
on Jan. 11, 1930 and he died Aug. 7, 1965. She married Oland Fetter on
June 5, 1969 in Butler, and he died July 2, 1981. She was employed with
Electric Motors in Garrett for 16 years. She was a member of the LaOtto
Wesleyan Church. Survivors include a son-in-law; a stepson; 5
grandchildren, Dan and Corene Ihrie, Mike and Shirley Ihrie, Steve and Sue
Ihrie, Thomas Ihrie and Rose and Weldon Cline; 9 great-grandchildren; and 5
great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter,
Joyce Ihrie, on Sept. 12, 1984; 3 sisters, Hazel Rhodes, Bessie Huff and Mabel Barkdull;
and 2 brothers, Robert and Huber Pepple. Funeral Saturday at Hite Funeral

Lafong Harrison, 86, another of Noble County’s oldest residents, died Feb. 14 at the home of his son, William near Kimmell. He
was born Jan. 26, 1844, in Green County, Ohio, the son of William O. and
Margaret Kirchner Lafong and had been a resident of Noble County since 1859 when
he settled on a farm in Sparta Twp. He married Sarah E. Gloyd
Oct. 8, 1863, and they had two sons and a daughter. His wife died
in 1895. Four years later he was married to Mrs. Sarah Stuff, and after a few
years together he was again bereft of his companion. Later he was again married which was for only a short period as death again claimed his
companion. He united with the Sparta Christian Church in 1856 and became one of
the charter members of the present organization which was formed in 1876. For
many years he was a member of the executive board of the Eel River Conference.
Surviving are two sons, George of Silver Lake, William A. of Sparta Twp; a
daughter, Mrs. Matilda Shisler of Ligonier; three half-sisters, Mrs. Lee
Harshman and Mrs. Sarah Cable of Ohio, Mrs. Benn Bowman of Chicago, Ill.; five
grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Funeral Sunday from

Lafong Lou Ella, 75, of near Kimmell, died Friday at Lakeside Hospital,
Kendallville. Surviving the lifelong resident of Noble County are the husband,
William; one brother, Morton Pollock of Angola; and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth
Schlotterback of Ligonier (only one named). Funeral Sunday at the

Lafong Sarah E, daughter of William and Matilda Gloyd, and a native of
Noble County, died July 29, 1895 and was buried in her native township,
Sparta. She was born there April 13, 1842 and had lived 53 years, 3 months and
16 days. She was married to William H. Lafong Oct. 8, 1863. She leaves a
husband; three children; four grandchildren; two brothers; two sisters.
She joined the Christian Church at Sparta in 1859. + Clippings book
LaFountain, Flora, 78, formerly of Elkhart died in the Sacred Heart
home near Avilla yesterday following a three weeks illness. The funeral
will be held from the Sacred Heart home Friday morning at 8 o’clock,

Lahmeyer Jessie W, 77, died Friday at Sacred Heart
Hospital, Avilla. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Creighton of
Groton, S.D., and Mrs. Erma K. Johnson of Lansing, Mich.; and a son, Earl Eckart

Lahrman Darrell Denman, 22, died recently in Norfolk, Va., where he is
serving in the U.S. Navy. He was born in Fort Wayne Dec. 8, 1964 to Daniel and
Viola Lahrman, who survive in Mountain Home, Ark. They are former owners of the
Valda Motel U. S. 6, West, Kendallville. He was a 1983 graduate of East Noble
High School and in Jan. of this year joined the U.S. Navy. Surviving are his
parents; his wife, the former Cheryl Scott; a son, Darrin at home; a sister,
Gaylene, Fort Wayne; two brothers, Allen, Kendallville, and Ben, Mountain Home;
and a grandfather, Charles Roy. Services Thursday in D. O. McComb &

Laird Leslie A, 65, formerly of North Webster, and acting superintendent
at Richmond State Hospital, died of a heart attack at the hospital last Saturday. Surviving are the widow, Goldie; two sons, Robert
of Syracuse, and Joseph; two daughters, Mrs. Dean Shirey and Mrs. Garold Baker;
and 10 grandchildren. Funeral Monday in a Warsaw funeral home. Burial,

Laisure Max,78, of Kendallville, died October 31, 2012, at Parkview
Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. He was born in Corunna on June 21,
1934, to Walter and Viola (Casselman) Laisure. He graduated from Waterloo
High School in 1952. He married Carolyn Ann Amos on May 22, 1955 in
Kendallville. He started working in construction with Kenny Lash Sr.
Construction. Later, he was employed with Sears & Roebuck in Kendallville as
hardware manager for 22 years. When the Kendallville store closed, He became the
district manager at the Warsaw store. He ended his working career as a carpenter
with Don Richards Construction of Kendallville. He was a member of the
Trinity Church United Methodist in Kendallville. Survivors include his wife of
57 years; 2 sons, Steve Laisure of Kendallville and Scott Laisure of Elkhart; 4
grandchildren, A.J. Laisure, Carrie Ann Laisure, and Devon and Bryce Laisure; 3
great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Cassie, and Keegan; and a sister, Joan Rempes of
Cedar Lake near Waterloo. Funeral Nov. 3 at Hite Funeral Home.

Lake Erma Anna, 85, of Wolcottville, died July 8, 2009 at Parkview Noble
Hospital. She was employed as a dietary aide at the Lutheran Home in
Kendallville before retiring in 1988 and was a member of St. John Lutheran
Church in Kendallville. She was born in Van Wert County, Ohio on June 25,
1924 to William and Alvina (Stamm) Muntzinger. She married Howard J. Lake
on Feb. 14, 2001 in Kendallville. Surviving are her husband; 2 daughters
and sons-in-law, June and Richard Kuhn of Kendallville and Joyce and Doug
Eldridge of Goshen; 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Jerry Schumm of Toledo, Ohio,
and Jeff and Rena Schumm of Kendallville; 5 grandchildren and 2
stepdaughters. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Schumm,
whom she married on March 28, 1948 in Convoy, Ohio, and who died April 20, 1993;
3 brothers and 2 sisters. Services Saturday at St. John Lutheran

Lake James Harrison died at his residence one mile south of Rome City
July 29 at the age of 69 years, leaving a widow, Jemima E., and a daughter,
Anna, wife of W. P. Denny of Fort Wayne. He was born in St. Lawrence County, New
York near the St. Lawrence River on June 22, 1833. His father, Thomas Lake, was
a sturdy New Englander who was born upon a farm near Concord, N.Y. in 1792 and
while yet a youth moved to St. Lawrence County, N.Y., where he met and married Jemima Tyler, a Green Mountain girl who had recently arrived from Vermont.
They had 3 children, Erie Ann, Mary and James. When James was one year
of age his parents again moved westward, traveling by ox teams and wagons
through the forests to central Ohio and settled upon a farm near Cardington at
the headwaters of the Scioto River. Here he grew to manhood, attending
first the district schools and later a seminary at Mt. Gilead, and also
assisting his father upon the farm. When he was 21 his parents moved westward
and settled upon a farm of 120 acres one mile south of Rome City, where his
parents both died and upon which he lived for almost half a century. After his
removal to Indiana in 1854 he taught school for several winters and assisted his
father upon the farm. He married Jemima E. Smith, daughter of Samuel P. Smith,
one of the pioneers of Noble County. They had one child, Anna. He
was a member of the United Brethren Church. Funeral at the family residence

Lake Julia Anna (Martsbaugh) was born in Galia County, Ohio Jan. 12,
1823; died Dec. 17, 1905, aged 82 years 11 months and 5 days. She married Samuel
Houser in Coshocton County, Ohio April 16, 1843. To this union were born 2 sons
and 3 daughters, who survive. She moved to Indiana in the fall of 1857; settled
near Fairfield Center, DeKalb County, resided there until 1867 from which place
they moved to Corunna, one year later to Sedan. In the spring of 1872 she moved
to Kendallville where she lived until death came. She joined the United Brethren
Church when 18. Her husband died Sept. 24 and she then married Jesse Lake Nov.
8, 1890. She gave a home to 12 homeless girls who remember her with everlasting
gratitude. Among the girls was one who came with Harry Henderson and the others

Lake Lynn H, 58, died Oct. 21 in Meadowhaven Health Care Center, Butler.
He formerly lived in St. Joe and was an employee of Magnavox, Fort Wayne. He
served in the U. S. Air Force. He was treasurer of the St. Joe Conservation Club
and was a member of the Amateur Trap Shooters Association and Holy Trinity
Lutheran Church, Harlan. He was born July 27, 1930 in Allen County, the son of
Edward and Fannie (Perkins) Lake. He married Gaynell Janke Sept. 29, 1950 in
Butler. Surviving are his mother in Butler; his wife; three daughters, Lynnann
Sonafrank of Columbia City, Judy Stout of LaOtto, and Karen Trenary of Butler;
two brothers, Stanley of Woodburn and Paul of Leigh, Fla.; and eight
grandchildren. Services Monday in Johnson Funeral Home in Butler. Burial,

Lamb Deloris A, 75, of Fort Wayne, died July 28, 2009, at Regency
Place. She retired from Kroger and was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic
Church. Surviving are her daughter, Suzanne (Frank) Joseph of Carmel; son,
Gregory M. (Loristene) Lamb; grandchildren, Amanda Joseph, Austin Joseph, Angel
Noel, and DeAngelo Samuel; great-grandson, Anthony Wilkes; sisters, Alice
(Donald) Huth, Barbara Hippenhammer, Ruth (Kent) Ihrie, Nancy Lamb, and Roberta
Montel; brothers, Stephen Fischer, Donald (Connie) Fischer, and Charles (Sherry)
Fischer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Lamb; sisters,
Irene Delong and Janette Fischer; and brother Thomas Fischer. Mass of

Lamb Ronald B, 41, of Fort Wayne, was dead on arrival Sunday at Parkview Hospital. He was the husband of the former
Deloris Fischer of Avilla. He was district sales manager for Plibrice Sales
& Service Co. the past 12 years, was a member of Northwest Kiwanis Club,
Moose Lodge 200, Elks Lodge 155 and was a past president and past district
governor of District 3, Kiwanis Clubs. Surviving besides the wife are three

Lambert Edna, 86, of 209 S. Oak St., died Saturday in McCray
Hospital. She was born in Allen County May 6, 1894, the daughter of Harvey and
Nettie (Streeter) Gustin. In 1912 she married William Ray Coffelt who died in
1929. She married Delbert Lambert in 1940 and he died in 1957. She had lived in
Kendallville 70 years, moving from Allen County. She was retired from the
housekeeping department of the Lutheran Home and was a member of St. John
Lutheran Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Kline of
Kendallville, and Mrs. Betty Jordan of Rome City; three sons, Delphos, Herman

Center, Lakeland, Fla. He was born Feb. 27, 1910 in Roann to William and Grace (Hower)
Lambert. On May 23, 1936 in Albion he married Louise Cripe. He moved to Rome
City 38 years ago from North Manchester and was a retired welder for Peabody
Seating, North Manchester. He was also a retired supervisor for many years at
Sylvan Pontoon. He was a member of the Rome City Lions Club and F&AM, Rome
City. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Jane) Hunefeld of
Huntingburg; 7 sisters, Faye Lambert and Fawn Welling of North Olmsted, Fern
Benson and Bernice Mindella of North Manchester, Mary Hartwig of Huntington,

Goshen he married Nancy Sheley. A farmer, he moved from LaGrange County to

She married Orlo G. Johnston Nov. 6, 1935. He died in 1935. She then

Lamiller Sept. 20, 1916 in Albion. He died March 4, 1952. She was a former
employee of John and Mid’s Restaurant, Albion, and a member of York Twp

Seidel on July 2, 1938 in Albion. A retired farmer, he moved from Wolcottville
to Warsaw in 1973. He attended the First Baptist Church in Warsaw. Surviving are

Lampen Joshua S, 29, of Westwood, N.J., and formerly of Otsego, Mich.,
and Cromwell died as the result of an automobile accident on May 15, 2012. He is

Lamport H M Rev. was born in St. Joseph County, Ind., May 3, 1849, and
met his death at Osceola March 25, 1892, aged 42 years, 10 months and 22 days.
His parents, Chancey W. and Adaline Lamport, were members of the Methodist
Episcopal Church before their family was given them. He was the second of a
family of four children, the remaining three still living, Mrs. Boles of
Osceola, Mrs. Buck of South Bend, and Rev. A. L. Lamport, Garrett. His father
died in August 1889. His mother still lives at the advanced age of 73. He left
Kendallville Friday afternoon to accompany his mother to Osceola and had just
kissed her good by and gone out on the railroad track to cross over to the depot
to take his train for home when the fatal accident occurred which caused his and

Lamport Mary J died at her home, 228 S. Taylor St., Sunday. Death followed an attack of paralysis. Born in Ashland County,
Ohio Jan. 16, 1849, she came with her parents to Steuben County, Ind. where May
27, 1875 she married Rev. H. M. Lamport, years ago known throughout the state as
one of the most powerful ministers in the Methodist faith. He was killed in a
railroad accident at Osceola, Ind. in 1892. Besides bringing up three children,
the oldest of which was 13 years of age, Mrs. Lamport carried on the work which
she had for so long been doing with her husband. At Fremont, Butler, Bristol,
Auburn, Kendallville and Ligonier, the Lamports had assisted in building up the
Methodist parishes. She is survived by three children, W. K., president of the
Lamport-McDonald Co., Miss Adelaide and Mrs. D. E. Dubail; four grandchildren;
and a sister-in-law, Mrs. W. S. Buck, all of South Bend. + No date.

in Angola he married Vermaldean Mae Anderson. He moved to Kendallville 40 years
ago from Fort Wayne. He retired in 1993 as a machine operator at No-Sag after 3
years. He served in the Texas State Guard, was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic
Church in Avilla and a past member of the Kendallville Eagles Lodge. Surviving
are his wife; 3 daughters, Yolanda Merriman of Rome City, Esther Fischer of

was married to Marie Z. Wagner in Spencerville Sept. 4, 1932. He was a member of

Landgraff Fredrick, 81, native of Albion, died Thursday at the
Sacred Heart Home. He and his brother Vernon, who also is a resident of the

Landgraff James, 62, met death in an accident the previous Wednesday when the team he was driving became unmanageable and ran away,
throwing him under the wheels of he wagon. He was driving the team which was
hitched to a load of corn fodder when the upright broke and he was thrown to the
ground between the horses. He is survived by four brothers, Vernon and Fred of
Albion, William and Cecil of Fort Wayne; and one sister, Mrs. Minnie Todd of
White Pigeon, Mich. Funeral at Bonham Funeral Home Friday.

Landgraff Marie, 90, died November 8, 2005 at Shepherd of the Hill in
Kendallville. She was born in Convoy, Ohio on January 19, 1915 to Lewis
and Edith Belle (Tope) Wagner. She graduated from LaOtto High School in
1932. She married Dale J. Landgraff on September 4, 1932 in
Spencerville. He died June 21, 1971. Surviving are daughters and
sons-in-law, Beverly and David Doenges of Wolcottville, Doris Jean and Steve
Leichenauer of Fortville, Linda and Roger Jackson of Kendallville; sons and
daughters-in-law, Joe and Judy Landgraff of Kendallville, Jerry and Nina
Landgraff of Bakersfield, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; several great and
great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Wappes of Louisville, Ky.
Four sisters and 3 brothers preceded her in death. She retired from Sears
Roebuck in Kendallville in 1977 after 20 years. She was a member of Faith

Landgraff Vernon, 91, Sacred Heart Home, died there Friday. He was
born Jan. 8, 1885 in Albion. He was in the tile manufacturing business there.

Landgraff William, 71, died Thursday in the Fort Wayne State
School’s hospital. The family was prominent in the early life of Albion,
having operated a tile mill in the east part of town for many years. Two
brothers survive, Fred and Vern, both at Sacred Heart Home; and a nephew, Frank
Todd of White Pigeon, Mich. Services Saturday at Bonham & Miser Funeral

Landis Viola M, 73, died Wednesday in Parkview Hospital,
Fort Wayne. A native of Monroeville, she had resided at Knapp Lake since 1972.
She worked for Kelly’s Annealed Bait and had previously worked at Wayne Pump
and Wayne Knitting Mills. Surviving are her husband, Russell T.; a sister,

Landon, Aug. 3, 1949. He was a retired railroad carpenter. Surviving is his

Landon Herschel L, about 64, died March 20, 1969 at the Marion
General Hospital. He was born Sept. 20, 1904 and was a steam fitter and plumber.
He came here from Marion about 8 years ago. He was a son of Jarvis and Orpha
(Dodge) Landon. He is survived by one son, Bill of Wawaka; one daughter, Mrs.
Sharon Glant (Steven) of Ligonier; four grandchildren; two sisters, Miss Opal of

Landon J L, 72, native of Ligonier and practically a lifelong resident of
Noble County, died at his home here from cancer today. He was a
carpenter and contractor. He built the Wawaka High School and the Elkhart Twp
centralized school building and numerous other buildings. For ten years he was a
bridge carpenter with the NYC Co. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias and
Pioneer Lodge of Maintenance of Way Dept. of the NYC. A widow; three sons, Brice
of Elkhart, Herschel and Arnold at home; and three daughters, Opal and
Marcille, Chicago, and Mrs. Pauline Bresher of Mt. Hope, O. survive. +

Landon Joseph, who accidentally shot himself while rabbit hunting a few
weeks ago, died Friday. Funeral was held from the M. E. Church Sunday. Burial, Ligonier Cemetery. He was 17 years 8 months and 21 days old and

Lane Arden W, 63, 103 ½ N. Main St., was pronounced dead on arrival at
McCray Hospital Tuesday after he was stricken while working at
Kendallville Foundry. He was born Sept. 17, 1910 in Butler to Alfred E. and
Lovina (Keck) Lane. He married Frances B. Nartker Oct. 5, 1935 in Kendallville.
She died July 24, 1967. He moved to Kendallville from Albion in 1970. He was a
member of Immaculate Conception Church, Moose Lodge and Kendallville FOP 985.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Berniece Hampshire, and Mrs. Faye A. Caldwell;
one brother, Claude A., all Kendallville. One brother and two sisters preceded

Lane Carlos D, 52, a native of Ligonier and wire editor of the St.
Petersburg Independent, died from a heart attack in St. Petersburg, Fla. while
in the editor’s office of the newspaper. He is survived by three sons, his

Lane Dessie B, 82, died May 3 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. She had
lived in Kendallville since 1925. Her husband, Claude, who died Jan. 17, 1976,
was one of the founders of Lane Foundry in 1964. She was a member of the
Kendallville OES and Trinity Church United Methodist. She was born June 6, 1902
in Auburn. A daughter, Beverly Sorensen, preceded her in death Oct. 21, 1975.

Lane Faye B, 77, died Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Paul
J. (Pooch) Harrell, Bloomington. A native of Whitley County, she had lived in
Ligonier for many years before making her home with Mrs. Harrell six years ago.
Her husband, Dr. Carlos D. Lane, died in 1932. Survivors besides the daughter
include five grandsons and one great-grandson. A son, Carlos Jr., preceded her

Lane Flora H, 78, died Aug. 25, 2002 at Kendallville Manor
Healthcare. She was born to Ed and Anna (Mikel) Hilyard. Surviving
are her sons, Jack and Barry of Kendallville; a sister, Mary Ann Butts of New
York; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. The family is making an

Lane George H was a son of Vincent Lane, who settled in York Twp in 1837 and was at an early
day one of the commissioners of this county.
George was about one year of age when brought here.
During the early part of his life he taught in the public schools.
In 1864 he married Eliza Matthews. They
had 8 children, all but one of whom are living.

Lane John, a pioneer of York Twp, died last Thursday. Born in York
Twp, he spent his entire life of nearly 85 years in the vicinity of Kimmell
where he resided at the time of his death. Surviving are the widow and one
son, Dr. C. D. Lane, who practices his profession in Ligonier. + 8-?-1926
Lane Lois, 84, native and practically a lifelong resident of Noble
County, died last evening at her home, 414 Matthews St. from
complications. She was born Sept. 8, 1849 at Swan, the daughter of Samuel and
Almira Broughton. She married Christopher C. Simon on Jan.
1, 1867. They had five daughters and 3 sons, 6 of whom survive.
Mr. Simon died in this city April 14, 1916 and in 1921 she married William C. Lane, who died in May 1931. She was a member of the
Methodist Episcopal Church. Her first husband was a former sheriff of Noble
County. Surviving children are Hal O., Elbowwoods, N.D., Clarence C. and Curtis
C., this city, Mrs. Maude Sturgis, Quincy, Mich., Mrs. Jennie Taylor, Chicago,
Mrs. Pearl Miller at home; 2 brothers, Bela, 90, LaOtto, Morton, Columbus, O.;
16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Two daughters, two brothers and one

Lane Sarah (Hitler), wife of Vincent Lane, deceased, was born in Pickaway
County, Ohio, Dec. 14, 1810. She died Dec. 14, 1896, aged 86 years, sixty of
which were passed in Noble County, lacking but one of all the years of the
county’s organic existence. Forty-seven of those years she was a widow. She
had sons George H., John C., Lewis and Josiah. + Clippings book
Lane Vincent was married to Sarah Hitler Dec. 28, 1828 in Pickaway
County, Ohio. In 1837 they came with their children and settled in Noble County, making their home in York Twp. He had before moving in the fall of 1835
entered 120 acres in section 30 and a fractional 80 in section 31 of that
township. He subsequently owned 320 acres in York Twp. He became at once a
prominent and leading pioneer. His brilliant career was stopped by death twelve
years after his settlement. He died in Dec. 1849 of lung fever. He had been for
several years prior a county commissioner. + Clippings book
Lang Brian E, 16, died Sept. 23 in an auto accident on 600E
south of Hopewell Road. He was born in Fort Wayne on Aug. 28, 1979 to Thomas and
Monica (Cramer) Lang. Surviving are his parents; a brother, Brent of LaOtto; 2
sisters, Mrs. Trent (Diana ) Peden of Albion and Mrs. Willis (Christina) Hicks
of Avilla; and grandmothers, Ruth Lang and Catherine Cramer of Churubusco.

Lang Harley Robert, son of Lucy and Drew Lang, was born in Emporia,
Kansas, April 15, 1900. He died at the Sacred Heart Hospital Aug.
21, 1930, age 30 years, 4 months and 6 days. He was one of 7 children of whom
three survive. Most of his early life was spent in the west. He suffered a
mashed finger while with a county truck. An infection resulted with a short
illness of tetanus. About 6 years ago he came to Albion to make his home. On
July 14, 1926 he married Anna Rush. They had one
child, Lois Marie, who survives with his wife; father and mother, one brother

Lang Henry Mrs, 57, a pioneer resident of this city, died this afternoon at her home,
Summit and Harris Streets. Death
was due to heart disease. She was a
member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church.

city, Mrs. Louise Niemeyer of Fort Wayne; and 4 sons, Walter, Julius and Otto of

Lang Henry P, 83, one of Kendallville’s oldest businessmen, died at the
Walter E. Wehmeyer residence last Saturday from infirmities of old age.
Surviving are four children, Julius Jr., and Mrs. Walter Wehmeyer of
Kendallville, Paul of Cleveland, O., and Mrs. Louise Niemeyer of Fort Wayne; two
brothers, George and John of Kendallville; and one sister, Mrs. Minnie Guetthoff
of Three Rivers, Mich.; 19 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Funeral

Lang John H, 77, a lifetime resident of Kendallville, where he was at one
time a tailor and cigar maker, committed suicide by shooting himself in the head
with a pistol in the basement of his home in that city early in the morning of
Nov. 6. He had been in ill health. He was a member of the Ben Hur and Odd

Lang Julius P, 51, was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. Jan. 18, 1856 and
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Lang, came to this city when a youth. With
his father and brother, Henry, he engaged in the boot and shoe business here. He
married Lena Smith of this city in 1878. They had a daughter, Lillian,
now Mrs. Louis Holzer; and a son, John E., who with the widow survive. In
December of last year he was elected to the city council. He was a member of the
St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. He leaves a wife, children, father, 4
brothers, Henry, George and John H. of this city, Herman F. of South Bend; and 3
sisters, Mrs. F. L. Bluhm of this city, Mrs. (Rev.) J. A. Bohn of Frazer, Mich.,
and Mrs. Felix Guetthoff of Three Rivers, Mich. He died at his home Sunday from a serious liver complaint. Funeral Wednesday from St. John’s

Lang Katharina, the daughter of Franz Dietrich, was born
Feb. 15, 1828 at Wallan Province, Nassau, Germany. Baptized and reared in the
Lutheran Church, she at the age of 21 sought a new home in this, our beloved
country. Settling in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1849, she met and in 1850 married Julius
Bernhard Lang. In 1866 when the masses began to move rapidly westward, he
brought his wife and family to Kendallville. They resided here ever since,
excepting four years during which he filled the office of treasurer at Albion.
Her career terminated at what people generally call a good age, this being 66
years, 11 months and 23 days. The immediate cause of death was inflammation of
the bowels, superinduced by hernia. She died Feb. 7. She left the husband and eight children and 19 grandchildren. Funeral was last Sunday at
the German Lutheran Church where the pastor addressed a large congregation in

Lang Lawrence F died in Tampa , Fla. He was a native of Kendallville, the
son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Lang. A graduate of Kendallville High
School, he moved to Tampa in 1943 and founded Lang’s Ice Cream, Lang’s
Construction and L. F. Lang & Son Pools, Inc. He was a member of Fellowship
Lodge of Masons F&AM, No. 265, Tampa, York Rite and Egypt Shrine
Temple, and was also a past president of the Downtown Cititan Club. He is
survived by a son, Stewart, and two granddaughters, all of Tampa, and a sister,
Mrs. Gertrude Burger, Kendallville. Burial in Myrtle Hill Memorial Park

Lang Lillian, 64, of Ligonier, died Oct. 7, 2010 at Goshen
Hospital. She was born Sept. 2, 1946 in Canebrake, WV to George and Alice
(Webb) Baker. On Dec. 24, 1967 she married William L. Lang Jr. He
died in Dec. 2008. She retired from Silgan Plastics after 36 years of
service. Survivors are one son, Eric (Stacey) Lang of Ligonier; one
daughter, Jennie Lang of Cromwell; 2 grandchildren, Chastin and Jacob Lang; 3
brothers and 2 sisters. She was preceded in death by a sister, Kathy Ball;

Lang Otto, 35, local shoe merchant and cobbler, and a lifelong resident
of this city, died this morning at Lakeside Hospital following
an operation for appendicitis to which he submitted Aug. 21. He was born Feb.
19, 1890 in this city, the son of Henry P. and Minnie Lang, the mother having
died 14 years ago. July 12, 1910 he married Mable
Rider. He attended high school, discontinuing his school to engage in business
with his father. one of Kendallville’s veteran merchants. They had three children, the eldest, a daughter, having preceded the father in death.
He was a member of the local St. John Lutheran Church. Surviving are the father
and the widow; a daughter, Winifred 12; and son Donald 8; two sisters; and two
brothers, Mrs. Walter Wehmeyer and Julius Lang of this city, Mrs. Ernest

Lang Sherry Lu, 43, of LaOtto, died July 28 at her
home. She was born Jan. 26, 1954 in LaGrange, the daughter of Shirley and Jo
Anne (Surfus) Garrison of Kendallville. She married Douglas R. Lang Nov. 2, 1974
in Roanoke. She worked at Lincoln Life Insurance in Fort Wayne for 20 years.
Surviving are her husband; a son, Clifford and a daughter Melissa; 4 sisters,
Susie Maxson and Peggy Johns of Kendallville, Sandy Davis of Park City, Utah,
and Patty Leathers of Rome City; and a grandmother, Loena Surfus of LaGrange.

Lang William L Jr, 66, of Cromwell, died Dec. 4, 2008 at his home.
He retired as a machine operator from Silgan Plastics after 31 years of
service. He was a member of Stone's Hill Community Church in
Ligonier. He was born Oct. 26, 1942 in Mt. Carbon, W. Va. to William and
Anna (Robinson) Lang. His father died in 1958. He married Lillian
Baker on Dec. 24, 1967. Surviving are his mother in Deep Water, W. Va.;
his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Stacey Lang of Ligonier; a
daughter, Jeannie Lang of Cromwell; 2 grandchildren, Chastin and Jacob Lang; and
a sister Alma Manley of Deep Water, W. Va. He was preceded in death by a

Lange Ima E, 62, Fort Wayne, died Sunday at her son’s home at
R. 2, Churubusco. She was born in Huntington Aug. 23, 1924, the daughter of
Marcellus E. and Lydia S. (Ringenburg) Dinius. She married George F. Whan on
July 22, 1947 and he died in 1966. She married William M. Lange Aug. 16, 1969 in
Fort Wayne and he died in 1983. She was a registered nurse at International
Harvester and retired from St. Joseph Medical Center in 1986. She was a member
of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne. Surviving are a son, Gary Whan,
Churubusco; a brother, Eugene Dinius, Huntington; and two grandchildren.

Langer Daisy, 82, died Feb. 9, 2010 at Provena Sacred Heart Home in
Avilla. She was born Jan. 12, 1928 in Mock, Ky, the daughter of Courtney
and Mary (Allen) Parks. In July 1957 she married Ronald H. Langer.

Langer Ronald H, 80, of rural Avilla died October 28, 2008 at his home He was a farmer and had worked for over 30 years as a design
engineer for International Harvester in Fort Wayne. He was born in Fort Wayne on January 17, 1928 to Hubert
and Marie (Pitenbrink) Langer. In July 1957 he married Daisy Parks. Surviving
are his wife; 2 sons and their spouses; Terry and Donna Langer of LaOtto and
Keith and Emily Langer of Avilla; 1 daughter and her spouse Janet and Dennis

Langkafel Annis Garstka, 91, former Ege resident, died July 23 at a
nursing home in Elmhurst, Ill. She was born Oct. 2, 1884 in Noble County to
Peter and Antonia Pavolich Garstka. She married Erich E. Langkafel in 1925, and
they spent their married life in the Elmhurst area, where he died in 1970. She
was a member of the church at Ege. Survivors are one stepdaughter, Mrs. Thomas
Walpole of Oak Park, Ill.; and one brother, Paul Garstka of Tuckahoe, N. Y.

Lanigor Goldie, 75, a resident of Garrett for 52 years and the widow of a
Garrett merchant, Hosie Lanigor, she died Monday at the Sacred Heart
Hospital. She had been living the past few weeks with her daughter and
son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Hopper, of LaGrange, and became ill Monday.
Surviving in addition to the daughter are a son, Howard Lanigor, of LaGrange;
three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Gloyd Brown of

Lankford Ronald L, 60, died September 10, 2003 at Parkview Hospital in
Fort Wayne. He retired in 1998 from Flint & Walling as a
machinist. He was born January 21, 1943 in Kendallville, the son of
Raymond and Catherine (Reade) Lankford. On March 15, 1975 in Kendallville
he married Beverly Ellis. Surviving are his mother, Catherine Rasler,
in Avilla; his wife; 3 daughters and a son-in-law. Cathy and Ron Deter of South

Lantz Anna, 85, widow of Henry Lantz who died in 1886, died last evening
at her home at Clinton Center in Clinton Twp of the infirmities of old age. She
was born in Lancaster County, Pa. in 1830. Since her marriage 66 years ago she
has resided on the same farm six miles east of Goshen. Surviving are six
children, Abraham of Goodwine, Ill., Mrs. Reuben Leslie of Clinton Twp, Melvin
of Perry, Okla., Mrs. Thomas Chiddister of Goshen, William of near Millersburg,

Lantz Donald, 83, died Tuesday in Kingston Healthcare Center. He
was born Dec. 23, 1914 in Elkhart County to Guy and Iva (Searfoss) Lantz.
A 1932 graduate of Wawaka High School, he was a farmer and mechanic who had
worked at Truelove Brothers Implement Co. in Albion and Fashion Farm in
Ligonier. He was a member of Cosperville Baptist Church. Surviving
are a half-brother, George Lantz of Milford; and 3 half-sisters, Mrs. Dale
(Lucille) Sherman of Goshen, Mrs. Ralph (Mildred) Coy of Syracuse and Mrs.

Lantz Donald Leroy, 2, died as a result of his skull being battered with
a hammer by his crazed father, who then unsuccessfully attempted suicide.
His 19-year old mother, Helen, found the babe on the back porch of her
home. A warrant charging first degree murder was served at Lakeside
Hospital in Kendallville, where the father confessed. * 1937

Home, Fort Wayne. Born July 12, 1919 in Chicago, she was the daughter of Otto F.

had moved to Kendallville from Chicago in March 1956. She and her husband owned
and operated Kendallville Feed Mill and Redwood Drive-In. She was a member of

born in France Sept. 26, 1923, the son of John and Josephine (Thomasiewski)
Lapelle. On Sept. 12, 1952 in Chicago he married Anna May Gast, who died
in Dec. 1987. He moved to Kendallville in 1953 and was owner/manager of
Graft-Lapelle Realty since 1987. In 1956 he owned Kendallville Feed Mill
and in 1971 he owned and operated Redwood Drive-In. He was a member of
Immaculate Conception Church, Indiana Board of Realtors, Elks, Rotary and

Larimore George J, 92, died Tuesday at his R. 1, LaOtto
home. He was born in Allen County Sept. 6, 1888, the son of Albert and Augusta (Krannichseldt)
Larimore. He married Huldah Holt Feb. 25, 1915 in Allen County. He retired from
farming in 1968 after 65 years, was a member of the DeKalb County Farm Bureau
and the Cedar Creek Church of the Brethren. Surviving are his wife; one
daughter, Mrs. Cleo (Ethel) Leiter, R. 1, LaOtto; two sisters, Mrs. Esther

Larimore Huldah I, 92, died February 5 at Miller’s Merry Manor,
Garrett. She had lived near LaOtto since 1950. She was born November 17, 1892 in
Allen County, the daughter of William and Catherine (Forbing) Holt. She married
George Larimore February 15, 1915 in Allen County. He died December 9, 1980.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Cleo (Ethel) Leiter, LaOtto; one brother,
Elmer, Columbia City; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was a daughter, Evelyn Mullins. She was a member of Cedar

Larkin Leah M,98, formerly of Kendallville, died Jan. 27, 2013, at
Renaissance Village in Fort Wayne. She worked three years at the Pretty
Lake School Cafeteria, and retired after 15 ½ years in the Dietary Department
at McCray Memorial Hospital in Kendallville. She was a member of the South
Milford United Methodist Church. She was born Oct. 7, 1914, in
Kendallville to Leonard and Minnie (Lash) Smith. On Dec. 24, 1932, she married Donald
Herbert Kent. He died on Sept. 10, 1957. She married Mark Larkin on Sept. 30, 1972. He
died July 11, 1998. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Gloria Kent of Fort Wayne; a daughter and
son-in-law, Marie and Dale Dolby of Markle; 4 grandchildren; 10
great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two

LaRowe Jessie A, 90, of LaOtto, died January 15, 2000, in
Extenda Care at Kendallville. She was an elementary school teacher for 35
years in the Albion and Avilla schools. She was a 1927 graduate of
Hamilton High School and received a bachelor of arts degree from Ball State
University. She did graduate work at St. Francis College and Ball
State. She was a member of the Huntertown United Methodist Church, Fort
Wayne Women's Business Club, Daughters of the Nile, Noble County Democratic
Women's Association, and Eastern Star. She was past president of the
Business and Professional Women. She was born January 10, 1910 in
Hamilton. She married F. Claude LaRowe on April 19, 1930 in Auburn.
He survives, with one son, Jim of LaOtto; 3 daughters, Dr. Mary Jane
Hamilton-Merritt of Connecticut, Shirley Chastain of Elkhart, and Barbara LaRowe
of Denver; 2 grandchildren, Charles F. Chastain, Harold Eugene Chastain, Curtis
Fredrick LaRowe, Kimberly Kay Yoder, Daniel William LaRowe, and Schuyler
Merritt; and 10 great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Oliver and Tim Brown,

Larson Alexander U, 57, son of Harriet and Arthur Larson of Warsaw, died
in his home. Born in South Bend on June 22, 1933, he was a graduate of
Albion High School, Purdue and Columbia universities. A physical
therapist, he was employed as chief of physical therapy departments of veteran's
hospitals in New York and Washington for many years, most recently at Kosciusko
County Hospital, Health Care and nursing homes. He is survived by his

Larson Arthur W, 43, cashier of the Albion National Bank, died of heart attack at his home on W. Jefferson St. in this city. He was a
graduate of the Ligonier schools, class of 1913, after which he attended
Tri-State College, then taught school for three years, then was employed by
Strauss Bros. Co. as manager of their real estate office in the northwest; and
in the spring of 1918 entered the U. S. Army for war services, where he served
until the signing of the armistice. He had resided here about 14 years, was a
member of the American Legion Post and the Albion F&AM Lodge. He was born on
a farm northeast of Syracuse, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Larson, and at
an early age moved with the family southeast of Ligonier. Surviving are the
wife, Harriet (Urich) Larson; one daughter, Johanna 7; one son Alexander 3; his
mother, Mrs. Fannie Larson; and two sisters, Mrs. Eva Sthair and Miss

Larson Esther "Helen", 90, formerly of R. 3, Ligonier,
died Tuesday (d. 6-23-1971) in the D and D Nursing Home in
Ligonier. She was born June 15, 1896 in Kosciusko County to Alexander and Fannie
(Bobeck) Larson. She was never married. She retired in 1965 as an assistant
cashier at the American State Bank in Ligonier. She was a graduate of Tri-State
Normal College and was a member of the Ligonier OES, American Legion Auxiliary

Healthwin Hospital in South Bend. She was a Noble County native, born May 22,

a bookkeeper at the bank until her retirement several years ago, and a member of
the Albion Asbury United Methodist Church, 50-year member of OES, member of

Larue W R was born near Mount Gilead, Morrow County, Ohio Nov. 28, 1841.
He was one of a family of 8 children, of whom one brother and 2 sisters survive.
He resided on the farm where he was born until April 1875 when he moved to
Kendallville, where he resided until February 1907. He then moved onto a small
farm west of LaOtto where he died March 20 at the age of 67 years 3 months and
22 days. In Kendallville he was a carpenter and joiner. He married Martha E.
Sheffer Jan. 9, 1873. They had 3 children, Clark who died at 7,
Rilla M. and Cecil J. He united with the Methodist Episcopal Church of
Kendallville. He leaves his wife, daughter, Mrs. Rilla Arnold of Ada, O., one

carrier with 38 years service, he also served the Avilla Fire Department for 12

Friday in McCray Hospital . She was born March 2, 1880 in Strasbourg, France,
the daughter of Anton and Veronica Buchs. She came to the United States with her
parents when she was nine months old and had lived in this area since that time.

She was born in DeKalb County on Oct 14, 1940 to Harold and Ida (Smith)
DeLong. She graduated from Avilla High School in 1959 and married David
Lash on Oct. 24, 1964 in Kendallville. She had been employed at Campbell
& Fetter Bank, Wagner Insurance and Hower Insurance and was bookkeeper and
manager of Lash Garage since 1979. She was a member of Harbor of Love
Baptist Church. Survivors include sons, Lynn and Brenda Lash of Avilla,
Jim and Tabatha Lash of Avilla; grandchildren, Ashley, Aaron, Austin, Nicholas

Fort Wayne. She was born in Decatur July 2, 1917 to John and Mary (Smith)
Wilson. She married Albert F. Lash May 12, 1938 in St. Mary's Catholic
Church, Avilla. He died October 22, 1983. Surviving are 4 sons, Fred
of Pittsburgh, Pa., Dennis of Angola, Jeffery of LaGrange and Samuel of Rome
City; and 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and Gail Allread of Brownsburg, and
Joyce and Steve Sims of Garrett; 23 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a
sister, Ruth Traxler of Goshen; and a sister-in-law, Bertha Wilson of Payne,

Lash Charles, 43, lifelong resident of Noble County, and employed in
Kendallville, was killed Monday when his automobile was struck
by a GR&I passenger train at a crossing in Kendallville. He was born near
Avilla, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Lash. He was married in 1911 to
Miss Dessa M. Treesh. He was a member of the Church of the Immaculate
Conception. Surviving are the widow; two children, Donald G 18, and Eugene 6;
four brothers and two sisters, Joseph, Tony, Mrs. May Ihrie and Mrs. Helen Buchs

Lash Christina (Diehm), wife of Paul Lash, died Friday
at her home in Garrett. She was past 73 years of age. She was born in Noble County east of Avilla,
January 1, 1853. She was married to Mr. Lash in 1879. For 25 years they
made their home on a farm in Richland Twp. Then they lived at Avilla two years
and they moved to Garrett 18 years ago. Of seven children, six are living.
They are Mrs. Clyde Halferty, Mrs. Charles Newman and Mrs. Louis Kuckuck of S.
Cowen St., Garrett, Mrs. Charles Zimmerman of S. Ijams St., Garrett, Mrs. Glen
Smith of South Milford, and Mrs. Henry Ober of Richland Twp. There are fourteen
grandchildren. Surviving also are three brothers and three sisters, Mrs. Adolph
Kressie and Henry Diehm of Kendallville, Mrs. Gus Wells of Green Twp, Noble
County, Mrs. William Craven of Grant, Mich., Fred Diehm of Allen Twp, Noble
County, and William Diehm of Richland Twp, DeKalb County. She was a member of

Lash Christine M, 77, of Fort Wayne and formerly of Kendallville, died
Sunday in Parkview Hospital. Born in DeKalb County Sept. 4, 1909,
she was the daughter of Andrew and Lena (May) Zircher. In Fort Wayne in 1932 she
married Howard Lash, who preceded her in death. She moved from DeKalb County in
1933 to Kendallville and had been employed by Redwood Restaurant. She was a
member of the Immaculate Conception Church, Women of the Moose Chapter 730, VFW
Auxiliary, American Cancer Society and American Heart Association. Survivors are
a daughter, Carolyn J. Randall of Ashley; two sons, Bernard B. of Fort Wayne,
and Ervin J. of Plant City, Fla.; a sister, Mary Sheets of Mishawaka; 12
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. One grandchild, two brothers and

Lash Dennis Andrew, 66, of Angola, died July 28, 2009 at Cameron Hospital
in Angola. He had been a certified financial planner for American Express
for 20 years, retiring in 2007. He received a bachelor's degree from
Indiana University. He was born Aug. 18, 1942 in Garrett, Ind. to Albert
and Charleen (Wilson) Lash. He married Kay Latier on June 11, 1966 in St.
Joseph Catholic Church in Rochester, Ind. Surviving are his wife; 2 sons,
Nick of Tampa, Fla., and Ben of Miami Beach, Fla.; 3 brothers, Fred of Tucson,
Ariz., Jeff of LaGrange, and Sam of Rome City; 2 sisters, Joyce Sims of Garrett
and Beth Allread of Brownsburg; and a grandson, Jackson Lash. He was

Lash. He married Edna M. Harris June 11, 1946 in Brimfield and she died July 31,
1983. He married Hazel (Acker) Trowbridge Aug. 5, 1985 in Kendallville. He was a
retired upholsterer and a bartender at the American Legion Post 86 in
Kendallville where he was a lifetime member. He was also a member of VFW Post
2749 in Kendallville. Surviving are his wife; three stepdaughters, Roslyn
Freeman, Emma Linville and Gloria Lash, all of Kendallville; four stepsons,

Kendallville Sept. 20, 1870 and died March 15, aged 28 years 5 months and 23

paralyzed at 11 months and at the age of 3 her mind became affected. Funeral

Residing in Ft. Wayne, he had been ill six months. He was a
native of Avilla and entertained the local Lions Club last fall with a trained
dog act. He was employed at General Electric Co. for the past 24 years. He was a

Sunday at McCray Hospital from a heart condition. She was born July 18, 1913 in
Stroh to Edward and Mabel (Smith) Harris. On June 11, 1946 in Brimfield, she
married Donald G. Lash. She had lived in Kendallville 40 years since moving here
from Stroh. She was a retired employee of Kendallville Laundry. Surviving are
her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Lavern (Roslyn) Freeman of Kendallville; two
sisters, Mrs. Iva (Irene) Rash of LaGrange, and Mrs. Gladys Hanes of Hudson; 3

100, of Kendallville, died at the home of her son in LaPorte on September
12, 2013. She
was born on April 8, 1913, on a farm near Lisbon, Indiana, to Ernest E. and
Lalah (Forker) Layman. She graduated from Avilla High School in 1931. She
received her B.S. in education from Ball State in 1941 and her master’s degree
from Indiana University in 1971. She was an elementary teacher
for 29 years. She taught in a one-room school in Jefferson Township in Noble
County. She also taught at Wayne Center, North Side, and Central School, all
in Kendallville. On April 21, 1941, in Avilla, she
married Harold G. Lash. He died March 17, 1974. She was a member of Trinity Church
United Methodist in Kendallville. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Earl Layman; and her sister, Mary Axel. She is survived by her daughter,
Karen Steelman of Gary; her son, the Rev. Evan (Barbara) Lash of

Lash Flawrence William "Speeny", 78, of Queen Creek and
formerly of Noble County, died Dec. 3 in Arizona. He was born in Noble County on
April 11, 1917 to Frank and Julia (Bauhaus) Lash. On July 20, 1935 in Avilla he
married Lois Weimer. He moved to Arizona in 1959. Prior to that he had been
employed by the B&O Railroad and built the Lash Garage in Avilla. He also
owned and operated Lash & Son Construction. He built Melody Valley Dance
Hall near Avilla and became well-known in the area with his band, Speeny and the
Midwest Ramblers. In Lakeside, Ariz., he owned and operated Lash Construction
with his son, Jerry, until his retirement. Surviving are his wife; 3 daughters,
Agnes Coker of South Milford, Clova Adams of Pinetop and Shirley Loftfield of
Show Low; a son, Gerald "Jerry" of Lakeside; 2 adopted sons, Don Miles
Lash and Rodney Junior Miles Lash, both of Queen Creek; a brother, Kenneth of

Lash. On Aug. 14, 1940 he married Modesta Leona "Bessie" Fought.
He retired from his business in 1971 and had lived in Ariz. the past 14

1975. On Aug. 5, 1985 in Albion she married Donald Lash, who died July 30, 1987.

Lash. James was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Army where he
was a POW and Purple Heart recipient. He married Lucille M. Bond Oct. 31, 1946
and she died Sept. 29, 2002. He worked in the shipping department at Dana in
Auburn for 36 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic
Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1790 and Garrett American Legion. He is survived by

Lash John, 88, pioneer of this community, died last evening at his home,
312 S. Oak St., from pneumonia. He was a native of Tuscarawas County, Ohio, born
Dec. 13, 1845, the son of Andrew and Marie Lash. In 1863 he came to Noble County
with his parents who located on a farm northeast of Avilla. He took up the
occupation of a farmer which he followed actively until retiring in 1921. Nov.
4, 1873 he married Lena Monger, who died June 26, 1922. Surviving are 2 sons and
2 daughters, Edward, this city, Herman, Avilla, Mrs. J. E. Phillips and Mrs.
Sidney Busch of near Avilla; one sister, Mrs. Mary A. Schneeberger, Logansport;

post mortem examination was held Friday, disclosing that his death was

Lash Joseph C died of pneumonia at his residence in Orange Twp on
Feb. 6, 1876, aged 38 years 2 months and 10 days.
He was the oldest son of William and Mary G. Lash, born in Mifflin
County, Penn. Nov. 26, 1837. When about 2 years of age he was taken by his parents to Wayne County, Ohio, where
after some nine years they removed to Noble County.
They settled on the farm now known as Lash’s Addition to the city of
Kendallville, where his father died in 1855, leaving Joseph, then 18, as the
virtual head of the family then consisting of the mother, himself and 4 brothers
and 2 sisters. He was a member of the Baptist Church. In July 1860 he
married Sarah Willouer and soon afterwards purchased and settled on the
farm where he died and where his family now resides about 5 miles northwest of

Lash Julia Elizabeth, 82, R. R. 2, Kendallville, died last
Wednesday in McCray Hospital following an illness of one year. Born at Avilla
June 19, 1886, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Bauhaus, she had lived her
entire life in the area. In 1904 she was married in Noble County to Frank Henry
Lash, who died in February 1957. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic
Church. Survivors include four sons, Kenneth F., Fort Myers, Fla., Forrest G.,
519 E. Wayne St., Flawrence W., Lakeside, Ariz., and Francis J., R. R. 2,
Kendallville; 19 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John and
Frank Bauhaus, both in California; and one sister, Mrs. Rose Westphal, also in
California. Two sons, two daughters and five brothers and sisters preceded her

She was a graduate of Prairie Heights High School. She had worked at Arden
and Bollhoff Rivnut, both in Kendallville. She was a member of
Kendallville Moose Lodge 1301. She was born Aug. 28, 1954, in Kendallville
to Jack and Sandra (Drerup) Spillner. On May 22, 2002, in Charlotte, N.C., she
married Colin “Butch” Lash. Suviving are her husband; 2 sons and
daughters-in-law, Trent and Heidi Buhl of Fort Wayne and Adam and Tanya Buhl of
Auburn; a daughter, Meredith Campbell of Albion; a stepdaughter; 10
grandchildren; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert E. and Wendy Spillner of
Kendallville and Chuck and Judy Spillner of Fairfield, Ohio; and a sister and
brother-in-law, Linda and Jeff Allen of Big Long Lake. Memorial service

Lash Kenneth F, 92, died October 6, 2001 in Fort Myers, Fla. He
founded K. Lash & Sons, Inc., a residential and commercial building company
in Kendallville in 1948. He lived in Kendallville until 1965 when he moved
to Florida. A lifelong member of the Moose, he was a member of the Elks
and Eagles Lodges in Kendallville. He was born in Avilla to Frank and
Julia Lash. His wife, Mable, survives in Fort Myers. Also surviving
are 2 daughters, Sheila Gage of Albion and Lavinn Hyland of Kendallville; 3
sons, Kenneth W. and Gene of Kendallville, and Lee of Rome City; 2 stepchildren
and 18 grandchildren. Five brothers, Cecil, Raymond, Flawrence,
Forrest and Frances; and a sister, Agnes Schmuck, preceded him in death.

Lash Kenneth William, 77, of Kendallville, died Feb. 12, 2008 at his
home. He was born in Albion on April 9, 1930 to Kenneth W. and Gertrude (Schmuck)
Lash. He married Ellen Jean Kline on Jan. 14, 1950 in Kendallville.
He and his father started his construction business in 1948, and his company
constructed more than 800 homes by 2006. He graduated as class president
from Kendallville High School in 1948. He was a member of Kendallville
Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and Elks Lodge and served on the Kendallville
Aviation Board of Directors. Surviving are his wife; his mother, Gertrude
Arnold of Kendallville; 3 sons and a daughter-in-law, Larry and Beverly Lash,
Steve and Tracey Lash, all of Kendallville; a daughter and son-in-law, Holly and
Ford Frick of Avilla; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother and
sister-in-law, Gene and Phyllis Lash of Kendallville; and 2 sisters and
brothers-in-law, Sheila and Bill Gage of Albion and Lavinn and Don Hyland of
Kendallville. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Lee,

Lash Lee W, 72, of Rome City, died Dec. 13, 2005 at Parkview Noble
Hospital emergency room. A self-employed electrician and a heating and air
conditioning contractor, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean
Conflict. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church, Moose Lodge
1301, VFW Post 2749 in Kendallville and American Legion Post 381 in Rome
City. He was born March 31, 1933 in Kendallville to Kenneth and Gertrude
(Schmuck) Lash. He married Sandra Lung on July 30, 1983 in Rome
City. Surviving are his wife; his mother; 3 daughters and 2 sons-in-law,
Liz and Darwin Terry of Kimmell, Lou and Joe Letherman of Green River, Wyo., and

Lash Leone, 73, Show Low, Ariz., died Wednesday in a San
Jose, Calif. hospital as a result of injuries she sustained in a traffic
accident Sunday morning in San Jose. A native of Ligonier, she was born March
17, 1915, the daughter of Edward and Josephine (Eytcheson) Miller. In 1933 she
married Raymond Lash. Surviving are four sons, Ray of San Jose, and Bob, Dick
and Wayne, all of Mesa, Ariz.; one sister, Lola Kline of Kendallville; and nine
grandchildren. Her husband, four brothers and a sister preceded her in death.

years. She was employed by Burnworth Zollars in Ligonier and was a member

died July 26, 1996 in Arizona. She was born in Noble County on Dec. 3, 1918, a
daughter of Gerald and Florence (Rimmel) Weimer. On July 20, 1935 in Avilla she
married Flawrence Lash, who died Dec. 3, 1995. She worked with her husband in
Lash’s Garage and Melody Dance Hall near Avilla before moving to Ariz. in
1959. Surviving are 3 daughters, Agnes Coker of South Milford, and Glova Adams
and Shirley Lotfield of Ariz.; a son, Jerry of Ariz.; 2 adopted grandsons, Don

Hospital. She was employed by Essex in Kendallville and Ligonier for 27
years, retiring in 1990. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in
Kendallville and Women of the Moose Chapter 730. She was born July 14,
1927 in New Ulm, Minn. to George and Ida (Stuber) Suess. She married
Carroll A. Lash on Feb. 26, 1949 in Temple, Texas. He died June 30,
1991. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Gloria of
Fort Wayne; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Tom Stackhouse of Hamilton; 4

She was born Feb. 18, 1915 in Brimfield to James and Mabel Sampsel. On Oct. 10,
1935 in Avilla she married Forrest Lash. He died Dec. 26, 1980. She was a former
member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Kendallville. Surviving are a
son, Thomas of Wolcottville; a daughter, Mary Bryant of Rantoul; a brother, Carl
of Defiance, Ohio; 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by 3 sisters and one brother. Funeral in Rantoul. Graveside

was born Jan. 11, 1922 in Garrett to Chester Orrin Clark and Margaret Pauline

Stafford and Diane and Bill LaVigne of Fort Wayne; a son, David of Flagstaff,

Lash Mary A, 81, was born July 8, 1891 in Avilla to Gerhard H. and Mary
Ann (Teders) Lemper and was married April 27, 1910, in St. Mary’s Catholic
Church to Herman D. Lash. He preceded her in death in 1950. She was a lifetime
resident of this community and was a member of St. Mary’s and the Farm Bureau.
She died Sept. 9 in McCray Hospital. Survivors include six
daughters, Mrs. Robert (Evelyn) Evers of Kentland, Mrs. Jack (Teresa) Parker of
Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. Cecil (Phyllis) Heffner of Elkhart, Mary Jean

Sept. 26, 1924, the son of Joseph and Maude (Franks) Lash and was married in
Kentucky March 26, 1949 to Una (Susie) Musser. He was a lifetime resident here
and employed by Holabird Mfg Co. He was a veteran of WW II and the Korean
Conflict and was a member of VFW Post 2749. Surviving are the widow; a daughter,
Mrs. Victor Chaney Jr., R. 1; a son, Colin Brian at home; a sister, Mrs. Maxine
Taylor, Witmer Lake, Wolcottville; two brothers, Vernon, Boise, Idaho, and
Carroll, N. State St.; and a grandson, Scott Allen Chaney. He was preceded in

Lash Perry, 54, unmarried World War veteran who served overseas, ended
his own life Friday by placing the muzzle of a 12-gauge
shotgun in his mouth and pulling the trigger. Despondency over ill health is

Lash Philip F, 64, 514 S. Oak St., died this morning in McCray
Hospital after earlier suffering from a heart attack. He was born Nov. 4, 1906
in Conde, S. D., the son of Fred and Garnett (Percy) Lash, and was never
married. He had resided here since 1928, moving from S.D., and was a 15-year
employee of Kraft Foods. He was a member of the Moose and Eagles Lodges. Distant

Lash Philip Peter was born in Bellville, Richland County, Ohio April 4,
1835 and died in Wayne Twp, June 13, aged 65 years 2 months
and 9 days. On Aug. 14, 1859 he was married in Wayne Twp to
Rhoda Hughes who survives. They had 5 sons and 4 daughters, 7
of whom survive. His mother still lives, a citizen of Tennessee, while
Michigan and Tennessee each contain a sister. On Aug. 25, 1861 he enlisted in
the 30th Regiment I.V.I. and Sept. 2 was mustered into the service.
Four years measured the time limit of his service to his country. He spent most
of his life in Noble County. He leaves a mother, wife, 7 children. His family
were all at his bedside at his departure except his son, Fred, who is in Dakota,
and his daughter, Martha, who is in Alabama. ^ 6-22-1900
Lash Rosalthe A (Hyde), 69y5m9d, was born in Rock Creek, Ashtabula County, Ohio, Jan. 11, 1844 and died at her home in
Albion June 20, 1913. She had lived in Albion for over 2 score years. She
came to Noble County with her parents and located near Kendallville in 1850.
In the fall of 1855 the father died and the following spring the mother
died, leaving her and a sister. In 1860 she married James L. Lash and they began housekeeping at Huberstan, Mich. Here
they resided when the country’s call for volunteers, and Mr. Lash was one who
heard and responded loyally to the call. She remained in Mich. for a year and then removed to Kendallville, where she
remained until the war was over, when the husband returned home. In
1871 they moved to Albion where they continued to reside until her demise, with
the exception of one year, which was spent in Virginia.
She was the mother of 6 children, two of whom preceded her in death.
The remaining four, Elizabeth Beard of Los Angles, Cal., Maude L. Flinn,
of York Twp, Ruby Rendel of Mexico, Ind., William Cullen Lash of Orange, Cal.,
and 3 grandchildren, with the husband are left to mourn.
She was a member of the M.E. Church. Obsequies at the home Sunday. Burial,

Lash Sandra K, 69, of Wolcottville, died at her home June 23, 2011.
She was born in Fort Wayne on Nov. 15, 1941 to Herman and Mildred (Isenbarger)
Krock. She graduated from Avilla High School in 1959. She married
Thomas Lash on Dec. 29, 1962 in Avilla. She worked for 10 years at
Coachman Industries in Middlebury. Survivors include her husband; a son,
Tracey and Melinda Lash of Avilla; a daughter, Leah and Jesse Rigsby of Hudson;
8 grandchildren, Kristina M Espoito, Kyle, Kacey, Bryan, and Michael, Larissa,
and Trevor Rigsby; 9 great-grandchildren; and 3 brothers, Jim Krock of Avilla,
Bill and Marylan Krock of Avilla and Bob and Bev Krock of Kendallville.
She was preceded in death by a son, Bryan Lash, on March 19, 2003, and a sister,

Lash Thomas P, 71, of Witmer Lake died March 25, 2013, at his home. He
was a truck driver and had been employed at Quick Tanks in Kendallville for 15
years. He had also driven trucks for Dana Corp., Starcraft and Kopf Trucking in
Goshen .He was born Dec. 20, 1941, in
Kendallville to Forrest G. and Mable L. (Sampsel) Lash. He married Sandra
Krock Dec, 29, 1962 in Avilla. She died June
23, 2011 .Surviving are a son, Tracey and Mindy
Lash of Avilla; a daughter, Leah and Jesse Rigsby of Turkey Lake; a sister,
Mary Bryant of Rantoul, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; and six
great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a
son, Bryan Lash on March 19, 2003. No funeral services or visitation are

Lash Truman, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Lash and grandson of Mr. and
Mrs. S. Keck, was killed in a railroad accident at Elkhart. He was employed as a
brakeman on the Lake Shore Railway and some way he missed his footing and fell,
his legs going across the rail. The wheels of the locomotive passed over them,
severing both above the knee. He died about 7. His
father met death over a year ago beneath the wheels of a street car in Chicago.

Lash W A, one of Garfield County’s citizens, died at his home 4 miles
west of this city June 23. He settled on his farm at the opening of the country
but spent a good portion of his time in Nebraska where he was a railroad
conductor. He was about 40 years old. A wife and 3 children, Arthur, Willo and
Frank, an aged father and mother mourn. Funeral will be held from the Christian

death by accident in the city of Chicago Feb. 1, 1908. He was born in
Kendallville, Jan. 9, 1867, hence at the time of his death he was 41 years
and 22 days old. June 19, 1889 he married Laura Keck. They had two sons, William T., and
Thurlow. He united with the Church of Christ in this city Feb. 13, 1897, and was
a member of the B. H. and the K of P. The widow, two sons, and four sisters

son. She was born in Noble County Jan. 12, 1902 to Frank and Lillian
(Owen) Strater. She was a member of First Christian Church in

Harbor, Fla., and Richard of Pontiac, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; 16

Lasho Clarence E "Peck", 74, of 208 Wedgewood Dr., died
Sunday at his residence. Born in Noble County Sept. 30, 1904, he was
the son of Eugene and Alma (Kimmel) Lasho. He married Beatrice Shippy who died
in March 1954. On July 15, 1967 he married Leah Reade. He was a lifetime
resident of Kendallville and a retired tool maker at No-Sag. He was a member of
FOE No. 985. Survivors include his wife; a son, Clarence E. Jr. of Marion, Iowa;
two stepsons, Richard Reade of Budd Lake, N.J., and Charles Reade of
Kendallville; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Albert (Charlotte) Truelove of

Friday at the Easthaven Hospital, Richmond, from a heart affliction. He
was born Aug. 8, 1865 in Jefferson Twp, the son of William and Sarah Lasho.

Hospital, Clearwater, Fla. Born in Noble County Jan. 24, 1900 to Wallace and Paulina
(Kimmel) Lasho, he married Alice Strater March 4, 1922. She survives. A retired
farmer, he had lived most of his life in Noble County. Surviving are his wife;
three sons, Robert of Omaha, Neb., Russell of Churubusco, and Richard of

the daughter of Julius and Dora (Hasselman) Pankop. On March 8, 1913 in Albion,
she married William J. Lasho, who died June 29, 1957. She had resided in
Kendallville since 1913 when she moved from Kolaski. She was a member of St.
John Lutheran Church. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Edwin (Lucille) Gienger,
Kendallville; a sister, Mrs. Frank (Matie) Herberger of Florida; four brothers,
Walter, William and Ed, all of Kendallville, and Robert of LaGrange; and a
granddaughter, Christine Gienger of Fayetteville, N.C. Funeral Wednesday
in Berhalter-Hutchins Funeral Home in Kendallville. Burial, Lake View Cemetery.

Lasho Pauline M, daughter of Martin F. and Elizabeth Kimmel, was born in
Jefferson Twp, Oct. 22, 1874 and died April 9, 1907,
aged 32 years 5 months and 17 days. She married Wallace G. Lasho March 10, 1894.
They had 4 children. She leaves her husband, parents, 3
brothers, 2 sisters and 4 children. Funeral from the Union Church.

Lasho Wallace, 59, died Thursday at the home of his
son, Frank, near Rome City. Born in Jefferson Twp on Sept. 8, 1871, the son of
William and Sarah Lasho, he spent his entire life in that community. He married Paulina Kimmel March 9, 1894, who died 24
years ago. Surviving are four children, Mrs. Beatrice Becker of Jefferson Twp,
Mrs. Leona Hill and Mrs. Edith Barker, Wayne Twp; and one son, Frank of Orange
Twp; 8 grandchildren; one brother, Eugene of Kendallville; and an aunt, Mrs. A.

Lassus Joseph L, 57, died Monday at the home of his sister. He was
born May 5, 1935 in Kendallville to Edward and Helen (Lang) Lassus. He was
a production worker for Colwell-General of Kendallville and a U.S. Army
veteran. Surviving are a daughter, Dawn; and a sister, Mrs. Paul (Ann)
Pfenning of Ligonier. Funeral Thursday in Ulrey-Renner Funeral Home,
