Kobiela Edward J, 54, died Sept. 30 in his Garrett home. He was born Sept. 13, 1930 in Garrett, the son of
Joseph M. and Leona (Blaskie) Kobiela. He married Jayne Owens Jan. 13, 1951 in
Garrett. He was a Korean Conflict veteran with the U. S. Army paratroopers and
an industrial engineer with Dana Corporation in Fort Wayne from 1948 until the
present. Surviving are his wife; three sons, David, Garrett, Joe, Fort Wayne,
and Grant, at home; one daughter, Lynn at home; one brother, William, Auburn;
three sisters, Rose Mary Duehmig, Avilla, Mrs. Charles (Rita) Mansfield,
Garrett, and Mrs. Leroy (Dorothy) Kingsland, Port Salerno, Fla.; and three
grandchildren. Services Tuesday in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Burial,

Kobiela Leona J, 76, died Monday at her home in Garrett. She was born in
Albion February 19, 1905, the daughter of Steven and Rose (Grams) Blaskie. She
married Joseph M. Kobiela June 1, 1926, and he died in 1962. She was employed as
a bookkeeper for the Garrett Clipper, retiring in 1973. Surviving are two sons,
Edward, Garrett, and William, Auburn; three daughters, Mrs. Marion (Rose Mary)
Duehmig, Avilla, Mrs. Charles (Rita) Mansfield, Garrett, and Mrs. Leroy
(Dorothy) Kingsland, Stuart, Fla.; one half-sister, Mother M. Adeline, Mokena,
Ill.; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Services Wednesday in

Koble Martha A, 66, R. 4, Syracuse, died Jan. 25 in Goshen
Hospital emergency room after suffering an apparent heart attack. A native of
Yoder, she was born July 15, 1911, a daughter of Clarence and Maud (Greek)
Baker. She lived in Syracuse since 1966, moving from Fort Wayne. On Feb. 14,
1929, she married Rev. Joseph J. Koble. He died in 1967. She was a member of
Syracuse Church of God and OES. Surviving are three sons, Keith, Ligonier,
Carroll, Syracuse, and Thomas, Denver, Colo.; ten grandchildren; four sisters,
Mrs. Mable Alcott, Pleasant Lake, and Mrs. Evelyn Dryer, Mrs. Geneva Genth and
Mrs. Edith Thompson, all Fort Wayne; a brother, Wayne, Hoagland. A daughter, a
brother and two sisters preceded her in death. Funeral held Feb. 1 at the

Koch Bess, 93, a native of Noble County and 1911 graduate of Albion High
School, died Sept. 7, 1986 in Pine Brook, N.J. where she lived with her
daughter. Born in Jefferson Twp to Allen and Viola Hoffman, she lived in
Indianapolis before moving to N.J. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Evadine
Restivo; a sister, Marie H. Stansbury of Lindale, Texas; a brother, Forrest of
Neosho, Mo.; and several grandchildren. Burial in Indianapolis. + 9-7-1986

Koch Carl and Harold, twin sons born Saturday to Mr. and Mrs.
Herbert Koch at the Sacred Heart Hospital, Garrett, died Sunday. Rites were held
Monday from the McKee & Clark Funeral Home. Surviving besides the parents
are a brother, Gerry, and the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Keck.

Koch Eugene Rudolf "Rudy", 61, died today in his Avilla
residence. He was born Feb. 8, 1933 in Payne, Ohio to William and Mary
(Schaffer) Koch. On May 22, 1954 in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Avilla
he married Madonna Ley. A retired truck driver for Renner's Express, he
was a member of St. Mary's Church. Surviving are his wife; 2 daughters,
Lesa Williams of Kendallville and Mary Koch of Avilla; 2 sons, Carl of Auburn
and Patrick of Kendallville; 3 sisters, Catherine Koch of Hicksville, Ohio,
Margaret Moeller and Hedric Moeller of Fort Wayne; 5 brothers, John of Payne,
Ohio, Justice of Sherwood, Ohio, Ben of Fort Wayne, Carl of New Haven and Vitus
of Auburn; and 10 grandchildren. Funeral Saturday in St. Mary's

Koch Florence M, 83, died Monday in McCray Hospital. She
was born Nov. 5, 1904 in Porcesti, Romania, the daughter of Andrew and Joana (Purece)
Simon. She married Joe Koch Nov. 4, 1944 in Auburn and he died Dec. 16, 1974.
Surviving are two daughters, Jane Yarde, Garrett, and Ann Warner of Columbia,
S.C.; one son, John Bradin of Huntington; one stepson, Jim Koch of New Orleans,
La.; one brother, Isidore Simon, Garrett; and one sister, Joan Grama, San
Bernardino, CA.; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in
death were three brothers, John, Nicholas and Andrew. She was a member of the
Garrett Eagles Auxiliary. Services Friday in Sacred Heart Home. Burial,

Koch Helen L, 91, of Auburn, died August 15, 2004 at her home. She
was born February 3, 1913 in Avilla to William and Emma L. (Deuitch) Vogeding. She married Karl B. Koch on August 30, 1937 in Chicago. He
died March 1, 1984. Surviving are cousins. She was preceded in death
by sisters, Geraldine Kaiser and Delores E. Abbott. She was a homemaker
and a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Auburn where services were

Koch Janice L, 37, died Sunday in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
She was born Sept. 15, 1959 in Fort Wayne to Joseph and Gloria (Clem)
Main. On Sept. 15, 1984 in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Avilla she
married Carl E. Koch. A cook at Town Tavern, she was a member of St.
Mary's Church. Surviving are her father in New Haven; her husband; 2 sons,
Charles Chorpenning and Ryan Koch; a daughter, Gloria Koch; 4 brothers, Joseph
Jr. and Patrick Main of Fort Wayne, Russell and Jeffrey Main of New Haven; 5
sisters, Luetta Mendenhall of St. Joe, Mary Jo Chaffins of Auburn, Tonya Hamblin
of Fort Wayne, Cassandra Brackett of Sturgis, Mich., and Jamie Main of New

Koch Marie H, 96, died Sunday in Provena Sacred Heart Home, Avilla.
She was born Aug. 28, 1902 in Chicago to Edward E. and Mary A. (Jennings) Moorhouse.
On Sept. 5, 1925 in Chicago she married William Koch. He died June 30,
1973. She was a clerk at St. Luke's Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago and a
member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Albion. Surviving are a
daughter, Mary L. Wilson of Albion, and a son, William L. Koch of Blue Island,
Ill.; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by a brother, John, and 2 sisters, Anna and Rebecca. Funeral Wednesday in

Koch Rosanna J, 76, Fort Wayne, died July 28, 2001 at her Fort Wayne
home. She had lived in the Fort Wayne area most of her life. She
owned Pool and Patio since 1964. She was a member of Praise Lutheran
Church and the Civil Air Patrol for many years. She was born January 11,
1925 in Avilla. On February 23, 1946 in Avilla she married Herbert O.
Koch, who died January 22, 1995. A sister, Martha Greenwood, also preceded
her in death. Surviving are a daughter, Kathleen DePrey of Fort Wayne; 2
sons, Gary and William Koch of Fort Wayne; 2 sisters, Elsie Keck of
Kendallville and Lucille Isabell of Flat Rock, Mich.; 7 grandchildren and 5
great-grandchildren. Services Thursday at Praise Lutheran Church.

Koch William L, about 77, Albion, died at his home June 30, 1973. He was born at Dolton, Ill. April 5,
1896 to Gustave and Louisa (Schroeder) Koch and was married to Marie Moorhouse
in Chicago Sept. 2, 1925. He was a retired sheet metal worker and came to Albion
six years ago. he was a veteran of WW I and a member of Barracks 238, Veterans
of WW I. Surviving are the widow; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Mary) Wilson of
Albion; a son, William L. II of Blue Island, Ill.; three sisters, Mrs. William
(Hilda) LaFlam, Mrs. Raymond (Minnie) Petrie, and Mrs. Carl (Hattie) Stoll, all
of Jacksonville, Fla.; and three grandchildren. Funeral Tuesday at Bonham,

Kochanouski Pelagia, 92, died Tuesday at Sacred heart Home.
Born March 10, 1882, she moved to the home Sept. 26, 1971 from South Bend.
Survivors include one stepdaughter, Honoria Mezykowski, South Bend, and one
sister, Mrs. Lilly Przybysz, South Bend. Arrangements are pending at South Bend.

Koellner Tobias, 85, one of the oldest residents of Noble County, died at
his home here this morning. He had been ill for seven weeks
with a complication of ailments, including hemorrhage of the brain. He has been
a resident of Noble County for over sixty years, coming to Elkhart Twp when 22 years of age. His active life was spent in farming, in which he made
a distinct success. Some years ago he retired and moved into Wawaka, this having
been his home since. He was born in Germany eighty-five years ago. He came to
America at the age of 22 and soon afterward located in Noble County. He served
through the Civil War, returning to the farm when the rebellion was concluded.
Surviving are the widow and one son, George G. Kellner of Kendallville, and four
grandchildren; also two stepsons, Fred Speckien of Kokomo and Henry Speckien of
near Albion, and one stepdaughter, Mrs. Sophia Carpenter of Niles, Mich. The
funeral will be held April 24 in the M. E. Church here. Burial at Cosperville

Koenig Elnora E, 75, of LaOtto, died May 8 in the
home of a granddaughter, Mrs. Joseph Wineland, R. 2, Kendallville. She was born
December 13, 1885 at Schumm, Ohio, and moved to the LaOtto community 26 years
ago from Fort Wayne. Surviving are the husband, Fred Koenig, to whom she was
married April 23, 1910; three sons, Milton P. of New Castle, Howard of Albion,
and Edward of Auburn; two daughters, Mrs. Kathryn Billow of Berrien Springs,
Mich., and Mrs. Mary Jane Milholland of Bluffton; five sisters, Mrs. Neda
Schott, Mrs. Della Spaw and Mrs. Louise Fietf of Fort Wayne, Mrs. Bertha Sauer
of Ossian and Mrs. Alvina Fizler of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and two brothers, Theodore
and Edward Roehm of Fort Wayne; 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in LaOtto and its Ladies Aid.
Services Thursday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Burial, Huntertown

Koenig Georgia, 21, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Koenig of Avilla, died
Saturday at her home there from heart trouble. She was a lifelong
resident of Avilla and had graduated from the high school there with the class

Koenig Henry, 75, of one mile west of Corunna suffered a stroke of
paralysis on August 15 and was taken to the McCray Hospital where he died Monday. He was born April 15, 1879 in Adams Twp, south of Fort Wayne, and was
an engineer on the Pennsylvania Railroad from 1899 to 1918. From 1918 to 1949 he
farmed west of Avilla and then retired, moving to his present home. He and Lena
Paap were married in 1906 in Fort Wayne. Surviving besides the widow are a
daughter, Mrs. Maurice Wagner of Kendallville; one grandchild; one
great-grandchild; a brother, Charles, Fort Wayne; and a sister, Mrs. Mary
Klappeoth, Racine, Wis. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Funeral

Koenig Howard C, 79, died Monday in the emergency room of McCray
Hospital. He was born in Allen County Jan. 24, 1914 to Fred and Nora (Roehm) Koenig. On Feb. 14, 1940 in LaGrange he married Jane Palmer.
He had resided on the family farm near Albion 53 years. A retired farmer,
he was president of the Noble County Beverage Board and a member of St. Mark's
Lutheran Church and York Twp Farm Bureau. Surviving are his wife; a
daughter, Linda Messer of Albion; 3 sons, Kenneth P. of Albion, David of North
Ridgeville, Ohio, and Robert of St. Louis, Mo.; a sister, Kathryn Billow of
Phoenix, Ariz.; 2 brothers, Edward of Pleasant Lake and Milton of New Castle; 9
grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. A sister, Mary Jane Milholland,
preceded in him death. Funeral Wednesday in St. Mark's Church.

Koenig Jane, 85, died Oct. 20, 2002 at Miller's Merry Manor in Columbia
City. She was born Aug. 30, 1917 in Des Moines, Ia. to Carlos and Ada (Kitt)
Palmer. She married Howard C. Koenig on Feb. 14, 1940 in LaGrange.
She had worked at the Noble County surveyor's office and was a member of St.
Mark's Lutheran Church in Albion. She was preceded in death by her husband
on June 21, 1993; and a brother, John Palmer. Surviving are a daughter,
Linda Messer of Albion; 3 sons, Kenneth of Albion, David of North Ridgeville,
Oh., and Robert of Indianapolis; 9 grandchildren, Richard, Michael and David Jr.
Messer, Deb Hart, Debbie Connley, Angel and Amanda Koenig, Lisa Rimmel and
Nichole Stevens; and 8 great-grandchildren. Services Oct. 23 at St. Mark's

Koenig Lois Ann, 52, of R. 1, Monroeville, died Sept. 27 in Lutheran
Hospital, Fort Wayne. She was born March 12, 1932 in Fort Wayne, the daughter of
Louis and Florence (Barry) Housholder. She married Herman Koenig Aug. 21,
1954 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne. She was employed for 15 years
as the secretary of Martini Lutheran Church, New Haven. Surviving are her
husband; a son, Mark at home; a daughter, Diane at home; her father and
stepmother, Freda of Fort Wayne; a brother, Harold of Fort Wayne. Her mother
died May 31, 1977 and a brother, Wayne Edward, died June 30, 11 days after
birth. Services Monday in Martini Lutheran Church, New Haven. Burial,

Koepke Lisetta D, 95, died Monday in the Lutheran Home of
Kendallville. She had formerly lived in Garrett where she was born July 30, 1892
to Albert and Dorothea (Dammann) Peters. She married Louis Koepke on Jan. 25,
1911 in Garrett. He died in 1980. Surviving are three sons, Ralph of Garrett,
Clarence of Pueblo, Colo., and Robert of Indianapolis; two daughters, Bernice
Humbarger of Sebring, Fla., and Shirley Griffin of Garrett; five grandchildren;
and nine great-grandchildren. One grandchild preceded her in death. She was a
member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Garrett and a 50-year member
of the Ladies Aid Society. Services Thursday in Zion Evangelical Church.

Koerner Zane Rae, daughter of Dr. Thomas and Rita (Rohrs) Koerner,
Kendallville, was stillborn Sunday at Lutheran Hospital, Fort
Wayne. Surviving are her parents; a brother, Joel, and a sister, Sydney, both at
home; the grandparents, Elmer and Eileen Rohrs, Napoleon, Ohio, and Ernest and

Koher Alta M, 83, of R. 3, Lake Wawasee, died Thursday at
her home. She was born in Ligonier July 30, 1904, the daughter of Jacob L. and
Minnie M. (Caskey) Conner. She married Orvin Koher who died in 1985. She was a
member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Cromwell and the Dorcas Society. Surviving
are two sons, Allan of Huntington, and Robert Lowell of Ligonier; a sister, Edna
Goppert of New Paris; and five grandchildren. Services Saturday in

Koher Brenton M, 67, died at his home on the County Line Road southwest
of Cromwell last Friday of a heart ailment. He was born Aug. 23, 1881
near Cromwell and had resided in this community all his life. He was a farmer
and in later years worked extensively at the carpenter trade. Surviving are the
widow, Pearl; two sons, Lavon and Ronald, both of South Bend; one daughter, Mrs.
Alene Wilcoxon of Terre Haute; and three grandchildren. Funeral Saturday in Cromwell Methodist Church. Burial, Indian Village Cemetery. +

Koher Elva May, 70, a native of Cromwell and almost a lifetime resident
of this community, died Sunday in Bethany Methodist Hospital,
Chicago. Surviving are a daughter with whom she resided the past six years, Mrs.
Elmer A. Terwell in Chicago; a sister, Mrs. Mildred Moore of Fort Wayne; four
brothers, Prof. Jesse Galloway, Indiana University, Bloomington, Marion
Galloway, Ligonier, Harvey H. and Merle Galloway of Cromwell; and two

Koher John, 61, a resident of Cromwell many years, died at his home in
Fort Wayne Sept. 21. Surviving are the widow; a son, Adrian D.; a stepdaughter,
Doris Hart, all of Fort Wayne; 4 grandchildren; and a brother, Brent of

Koher John D,
son of Christian M. and Esther Mumma Koher, was born Nov. 3, 1851 near Canal
Dover, Ohio, and died Dec. 23, 1927, aged 76 years 2 month and 20
days. He was the 6th child in a family of 7 boys and 2 girls, all of whom preceded him in death
except Mirtin M. Koher of this community. About
1866 he married Eva G. Boyce of Wichita, Kansas, who preceded him in death.
Most of his life was spent in Wichita.
During later years he lived in the home of Mrs. Thomas W. Smith.
Funeral at Indian Village Saturday.

Koher John L, 88, of Cromwell, died Dec. 10 in Turtle Creek
Nursing Home, Elkhart. He was born Sept. 17, 1885 in Kosciusko County, and had
lived all his life in the Cromwell and North Webster areas. In 1911 in North
Webster he married Lillian Gerard. He was a retired mail carrier and school bus
driver. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Edwin of Goshen, and Woody of Warsaw;
3 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Mrs. James
Mock of North Webster and Mrs. Stanley Himes of South Whitley. Services

Whitley County Hospital. He was born July 13, 1954 to Adrian D. and Alice
L. (Gaunt) Koher. On July 31, 1972 in Fort Wayne he married Sandra A.
Barclay. He was employed at Boyd's Machinery & Repair, Kimmell.
Surviving are his wife; 3 sons and 2 daughters-in-law, Rob and Cheryl of Wolf
Lake and Jeff and Dawn and Steven Koher of Albion; 4 brothers and a
sister-in-law, Phillip and Mary of Fort Wayne, Gene of San Diego, Calif., David
of Fla., and Steve Koher of Angola; a sister, Colleen Miller of Fort Wayne; and

Koher Orvin A, 83, of R. 3 Syracuse, died Wednesday at
Fountainview Place Nursing Home, Goshen. He was born May 9, 1902 in Syracuse,
the son of Elmer and Rosabell (Stocker) Koher. On June 11, 1927 in Albion he
married Alta Conner. He had lived in the area 40 years and was engineering
representative for Bendix Corporation and was a ham radio operator for over 50
years. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Cromwell. Surviving are his
wife; two sons, Allan of Huntington, and Robert Lowell of Ligonier; and five

Koher Ronald E, 36, of South Bend, was found dead in his home Saturday of a heart attack. He was born in Cromwell and graduated from
Cromwell High School, moving to South Bend about 17 years ago. Surviving are his
wife, Betty Jane; his mother, Mrs. Pearl Koher of Ligonier; a brother, Lavon of

A native of New York City, she was born Nov. 1, 1884 to Fred and Lena Kohler and
moved to Albion from NYC in Sept. 1963. She is survived by a nephew, Richard
Gieschen, Wawaka; and two nieces, Mrs. Joe (Madeline) Steele, Albion, and Mrs.

Kohn Merry C, 65, Upper Long Lake, died at her home Friday
while she was planting flowers in her yard. Born in Antwerp, Ohio on Christmas
Day 1910, she lived in Antwerp until she graduated from high school and moved to
Fort Wayne. She married William D. Kohn on April 16, 1931. They lived in Fort
Wayne until 1971 when they moved to Upper Long Lake just north of Wolf Lake. She
worked at the Weatherhead Co. for 10 years before that. She was a member of Fort
Wayne Presbyterian Church. Surviving are the husband; a son, Lynn F., Fort
Wayne; and a brother, William Russell Foster, Bay City, Mich.; five
grandchildren. Funeral at Smith Funeral Home, Columbia City, Monday.

Kohn William D, 80, died Dec. 11, 1989 at his home at Upper Long Lake of
an apparent heart attack. He was born in Grover Hill, Ohio to Bryon E. and Mary
A. Sherlock Kohn and his formative years were spent in Van Wert, Ohio, where he
graduated from high school. April 16, 1931 he married Merry
Christmas Foster, and in 1936 he moved to Fort Wayne where he was employed by
Tokheim Corporation until retiring in 1972. After retirement the couple moved to
Upper Long Lake. His wife preceded him in death in 1976. Nov. 26, 1977 he
married Florence Emley Boyce. He was a member of the Eagles Aerie at Albion.

Kokenge Charles J, 80, a lifelong resident of the Avilla community, died at the Sacred Heart Home Tuesday. He had formerly operated
a hardware business here in Avilla and in recent years worked as a plumber. He
was a member of the Holy Name Society. He is survived by two brothers, Edward,
Auburn, and Urban of Miami, Fla.; and a sister, Mrs. Acella Vose of Nebraska.

married Etta Weaver in Garrett June 17, 1920. He was the retired owner of the
Auburn City Hardware and a member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Auburn,
a charter member of the Garrett Council of the Knights of Columbus and member of
the Elks Lodge of Lima, Ohio. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. John

Kokenge Mary (Helmer), 85, widow of Charles Kokenge who died 30 years
ago, died Monday at her home here. She was a native and lifelong
resident of the community. Death was due to a heart attack. She was a member of
St. Mary’s Catholic Church from where last rites will be held today with
burial in the church cemetery. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Mary
Lockhart, Baltimore, Md., Mrs. Acella Vose, Lincoln, Neb., and Miss Loretta

the area his entire life. He was a retired farmer and worked as a sexton at area

at the home of her father in Kendallville Jan. 27, 1895, aged 31 years, 11
months and 19 days. She was received in the Methodist Episcopal Church Oct. 5,
1884. After the death of her mother, which occurred Aug. 19, 1893, the interests

Kollman Ernestine (Lueder) was born in Mecklenburg, Schwerin, Germany,
Jan. 12, 1836 and died at her home in Kendallville Aug. 19, aged 57 years 7
months and 7 days. She married Bernard Kollman Oct. 28, 1853. In the winter of
’61 ’62 she with her husband and family emigrated to this country and came
to Kendallville, where she resided until the day of her death. She was the
mother of 5 sons and 3 daughters, who with the husband and one
brother are left. She was a member of the M. E. Church where funeral

Kollman Isabel, 68, of Bronson, Mich., died Sunday at her residence. Born in Fowler on March 15, 1916, she was the daughter

married Lionel "Ralph" Kollman. She moved to Bronson from Pontiac in
1968 and was a Stanley home products representative and years ago had operated a

Wednesday at Valley Manor Nursing Home, New Philadelphia, Ohio. Born in
Kendallville May 2, 1897, he was the son of Frederick A. and Myrtle (Doolen)
Kollman. On Aug. 25, 1939 in Pontiac, Mich., he married Isabel Boudreau, who
died May 6, 1984. A retired press operator for General Motors Pontiac Division,
Pontiac, Mich., he also owned and operated a restaurant in Detroit with his
wife. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of WW I. Surviving are two sons, Dr. Dale R.
of Tuscarawas, Ohio, and SM-Sgt Tom Edward of Cannon AFB, Clovis, N.M.; a
brother, Robert A. of Kendallville; four grandchildren; and two

a farmer and DeKalb seed corn dealer for 24 years. He was a member of the

Conflict veteran and a member of Garrett Knights of Columbus, Churubusco VFW and
American Legion Post, and Fort Wayne Civil Air Patrol. In addition to
farming , he was the owner of Konger Electronic Products and had worked at
Magnavox, Raytheon, and Lake City Bank. On May 3, 1958 he married Rosemary
Minnich at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hessen Cassel. Surviving are his

worked as a computer clerk for Kroger for 24 years, retiring in 1971. She
was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church. She was born Aug. 22,
1911 in Ege. She married Thomas G. Konger April 12, 1934. He
preceded her in death. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Dean and
Mary Konger of Fort Wayne; a daughter and son-in-law, Corene and Richard Rooney

Konger Mildred, 93, died Tuesday in her rural LaOtto residence. She
was born east of Albion on March 10, 1905 to John and Mary (Miller) Emge.
On Feb. 3, 1930 in Ege she married Clarence B. Konger. He died May 29,
1986. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Ege.
Surviving are 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Verdonna and John and
Suzanne Konger, rural Albion; a daughter, Rosalie Houser of Fort Wayne; 2
daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Douglas Bauman of Fort Wayne and
Kathleen and Glenn Bonar of Churubusco; 22 grandchildren and 43
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Mary and

Konger William A, 26, died Saturday from injuries suffered
in an auto accident. He was born in Kendallville March 10, 1962, the son of
James and Barbara (Raypole) Konger. He had lived most of his life in Churubusco
and attended Churubusco High School. He was foreman at Travis Gloyd Construction
and a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church. Surviving are his parents; five
sisters, Mrs. Al (Linda) Hernandez of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Mrs. Tom (Vicki)
Frisby of Diamond Bay, Calif., Diane of Fort Wayne, Mrs. Tom (Karen) Gaff of
Columbia City, and Sandy of Churubusco; seven brothers, Larry and Ted of Fort

Konkle Burton Alva, 83, of Philadelphia, died in that city Oct. 24 on a
business section street from a heart attack while en route to a hospital. He was
a noted author and historian associated with the Historical Society of
Pennsylvania nearly a half century. He always referred to himself as a
"Hoosier" and was born in Albion and educated at Lake Forrest Academy,
McCormick Theological Seminary and the University of Chicago and earned a Master
of Arts degree at Huron College in Michigan. He was the eldest son of Simon K.
and Cornelia (Andrews) Konkle, deceased, pioneer citizens of Albion. His father
was a musician and painter extraordinary, was leader of Albion cornet band and

Konkle Edward, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. K. Konkle, deceased pioneer
citizens of Albion, died at his home at Tomkins Center, Mich., Dec. 25, where
four weeks ago he moved from Jackson, Mich., having resided at the latter city
for many years. Surviving are the wife and 2 daughters
and 4 sons. He was born and reared in Albion. A brother, Alva Burton Konkle,

Kooken Thelma E, 82, former Garrett resident, died Monday in Bloomington
Hospital. She was born March 17, 1901 in Altona, the daughter of James and Anna
(Houser) Leeson. She married Donald Kooken July 10, 1918 in Altona. He died May
27, 1959. She was a homemaker and member of the Rebekahs in Bloomington. In
Garrett she belonged to the OES, American Legion Auxiliary, Emblem Club and the
Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers Auxiliary. Surviving are a
daughter, Mrs. Rex (Beryl) Lowrance, Chattanooga, Tenn.; a sister, Mrs. Richard
(Margaret) Dolan, Erie, Penn.; two brothers, Don, R. 1, Garrett, and Fred,
Ligonier; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A son, John, preceded

Koon Cecil W, 65, of 411 S. State St., died Sunday at the V.A.
Hospital, Fort Wayne. A 1939 graduate of Indiana University School of Business,
he was born March 1, 1917 in Noble County to John and Rosa (Gehring)
Koon. He was formerly owner of the Royal Crown Bottling Co. of Sturgis, Mich. and had
returned to Kendallville 10 years ago from Sturgis. He was a veteran of WW II
and a member of St. John Lutheran Church. Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. L. K.
(Rilla) Barnett of Lakewood, Fla., Retha Koon and Mrs. Robert (Cora) Klinkenberg,

Garrett; five sons, Charles and Dick of Fort Wayne, Harold and James, Avilla,
and Herbert, Cincinnati; three sisters, Esther and Loretta, Bakersfield, Calif.,
Rose Drerup, Kendallville; six brothers, Carl and Edward, Kendallville, William
and Frank, Avilla, Eugene, Bakersfield, Calif., and Urban, Fort Wayne; six

Koons Charles O, 100, died January 1, 2002 at Parkview Hospital, Fort
Wayne. The Avilla native was executive vice president of Wayne Hardware
for 46 years, retiring in 1966. He was inducted into the Fort Wayne
Baseball Hall of Fame in 1975 and was given the Elmer Wagner Award by the Old
Timers Baseball Association. Surviving are his wife, Hildegard S. of Fort
Wayne; a daughter, Barbara L. Penn of Haines City, Fla., a brother, James of
Avilla; 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Three brothers, Dick of
Fort Wayne, Harold of Avilla and Bert of Florida, and one sister, Edith VanHouten

Koons Cora was born April 22, 1880 and died at the home of her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bundy, in Waterloo, Ind. April 17, aged 21 years 11 months
and 25 days. She married Mason Koons of Kendallville in August 1900. Death was
caused by consumption, which also claimed the life of her sister Mary a few
years ago. Funeral was at the parental home Sunday. ^ 5-2-1902
Koons David was born June 8, 1816 in Bedford County, Penn, one of a
family of 6 boys and 3 girls. His youth was spent at the place of his birth
where he received the meager schooling of that early day when educational
advantages were few outside of the larger cities. He married Ruth A. Smith Aug.
8, 1838. Together they came in 1843 to Richland County, Ohio where they remained
about 3 years. In 1846 they came to Noble County, reaching here Sept. 20.
It was not until the spring of the following year that he began the clearing of
land and erection of his cabin home. They lived in this log house for 6 or 8
years when a frame house was constructed. They had eight children, 2
of them in Penn. and 6 in this county, Ann R. McClinton, Mary A. Ernst, Sarah A.
Sherman, Ellen E. Riddle, Olive S. McCartney, Naomi J. Koons, Margaret A.
Underwood and Addie F. Morrison. Of these, Sarah A., Naomi J. and Margaret are
deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Koons united with the German Reformed Church in Bedford
County, Penn. They were 2 of the 6 charter members of the Mt. Pleasant Lutheran
Church of this county. After living on their farm for 27 years they moved to
Kendallville where they joined the Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Koons died Aug. 20,
1893. He died after a lingering illness of several weeks Jan. 26 in the 84th year of his age. He leaves 5 daughters, 18 grandchildren and 11

Hospital.. A native of Noble County, he was born Aug. 22, 1880, the son of John
and Margaret (Smith) Koons. He was engaged in farming. In 1901 he was married to

Wayne. He was a furniture craftsman and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic
Church. He was born Sept. 8, 1903 in Avilla to William and Cecilia Koons and is
survived by a daughter, Shirley, Auburn; a son, Robert, Waverly, N. Y.; and four
brothers, Charles and Dick both Fort Wayne, Herbert, Florida and Jim, Avilla.

Koons Herbert W, 87, died Friday at St. Petersburg Hospital in St.
Petersburg, Fla. He was born to William and Cecilia (Ley) Koons. In
1940 he married Maryellen Smith. He was manager of data processing for
Colonial Grocery chain in Cincinnati and Kroger's in Chicago and Indianapolis for
about 30 years. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in St.
Petersburg. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Marilyn C. McCarthy of
Fayetteville, N.C.; 2 brothers, Jim of Avilla and Charles of Fort Wayne; and 2

Koons James L, 88, Avilla, died July 26, 2003 at Parkview Noble
Hospital. A lifetime resident of Avilla, he was the owner and operator of
Koons Supermarket 1940-1992. He served as Noble County Democratic Party
chairman 1944-2001. A 1933 graduate of Avilla High School, he was a former
chairman of the March of Dimes and a founding member of the Avilla Chamber of
Commerce, a lifetime member of the Kendallville Elks and Moose lodges. He
was born June 1, 1915 in Avilla to William and Cecilia (Ley) Koons. On
August 23, 1955 he married Dorothy Finney in St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife and a daughter, Ann, of Chicago. Preceding him in
death were a son, James, on August 6, 1998; 4 brothers, Charles, Harold, Dick
and Burt; and a sister, Edith VanHouten. Services at St. Mary's

Koons James W, 41, an Avilla native, died July 30 in his parish’s
rectory at St. Patrick’s Church, Fort Wayne. He was born in Garrett on June
16, 1957 to James L. and Dorothy M. (Finney) Koons of Avilla. Survivors include
his parents and a sister, Ann of Chicago, Ill. He attended East Noble High
School and graduated from St. Pius Seminary, Erlanger, Ky. He attended school in
the Vatican in Rome for 4 years. He was ordained a priest on July 16, 1983 and
said his first mass at St. Mary’s Church in Avilla. Funeral mass at St.

Koons M Alberta, 96, Avilla, died October 4, 2001 at Provena Sacred Heart
Home in Avilla. A businesswoman and lifelong Avilla resident, her family
owned the Avilla Hardware 1918-1977. Starting helping her father in the
store, she eventually became sole owner and proprietor. She was born July
1, 1905 in Kendallville to Ray M. and Codelia (Weaver) Boszor. On
February 26, 1938 in Fremont she married Norman J. Koons. He died December
25, 1994. A sister, Nevelyn Young, is also deceased. Services

farmer, he attended Calvary United Methodist Church in Avilla and was a member

York 25 years. He was captain of the Toronto County, N. Y. sheriff patrol 10

Koons Ruth Ann (Smith) died at her home in Kendallville
Aug. 20, 1893. She was born in Bedford County, Pa., March 9, 1820 and was 73
years, 5 months and 11 days of age. In her 15th year she was confirmed in the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in Friends Cove, Bedford County, Pa. She married David Koons Aug. 9, 1838.
They had 8 daughters and one
son. The son died in infancy and two of the daughters preceded the mother in
death. There are 21 grandchildren. In 1844 she, with her husband, moved from Pa.
to Richland County, O. In the winter following they united with the Lutheran
Church at Woodbury, O. In Sept. 1846 they moved to Allen Twp, where they purchased a farm, improved it and lived comfortably for about 25
years. She was a charter member of Mt. Pleasant Church. After moving to
Kendallville she and her husband united with the Presbyterian Church where

Koons Sarah Helen, daughter of Jacob and Mary Koons, was born in
Jefferson Twp on the 1st day of September 1850 and died
on the 14th day of November 1929. Her age at the
time of her death was 79 years 2 months and 13 days. The first 50 years of her
life were spent on the home farm west of Avilla, where she cared for her father,
mother and aunt. About 29 years ago she moved to the farm where she died. At this farm she shared the home with a niece, Sadie
Feightner, and husband Irving Feightner and family. In 1918 she united with the Church of the
United Brethren in Christ. One sister and three brothers have preceded her in

Kendallville, and in earlier life engaged in the trucking business in this area,
died Sunday in his home. He was born Jan. 15, 1875 in Avilla and
was a lifelong resident of this community. Surviving are the widow, Cecilia,
with whom he observed a 57th wedding anniversary in June; a daughter,
Mrs. Edith VanHouten in Garrett; five sons, Charles O. and Merlin of Fort Wayne;
Herbert of Cincinnati, Harold, Kendallville, and James, Avilla; four
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a half-brother, Carl Aman of Clyde,
Ohio; and two half-sisters, Mrs. William Ley, north of Avilla, and Mrs. Clyde

Koons William Henry, son of George W. and Sophia Koons, was born in
Bedford County, Pa., Nov. 13, 1847, and died from erysipelas with which he had
been seriously ill only a few days, at his home three and one-half miles west of
Avilla, Aug. 24, 1926, at the age of 78 years 9 months and 11 days. His father died
March 17, 1853. At the age of 12 years he, with
his mother and two brothers, moved to Noble County. He always lived
with his mother until her death Jan. 31, 1913. One brother, John Thomas,
preceded him in death Sept. 15, 1881. On April 15, 1880 he married Emma Wirick, who died June 7, 1914.
They had one child. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Ida Wells; her husband;
three grandchildren, Dale, Clarence and Bertha; and one brother, Adam Frances of

Chicago he married Celeste S. O’Day, who died Jan. 8, 1979. Retired, he moved

Kostielney Andrew, about 48, Noble County farmer of near Ege, dropped
dead of a heart attack while driving his car from his home to Churubusco April
10. Death occurred about a mile north of Churubusco. He is survived by three
brothers and one sister, Frank of Buffalo, N.Y., Michael of Elkhart and Martin
of Avilla, and Rose who made her home with him. Funeral Sunday from

Kostielney Anthony G, 79, died Sept. 22, 1991 at McCray Hospital.
He was born Feb. 22, 1912 in Detroit, a son of Joseph and Rose Molargik
Kostielney. He lived in the Ege area until 1940. In June 1940 he
married Helen Bianski. She died in 1949. He was employed by
International Harvester in Indianapolis for many years, retiring in Sept.
1971. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church at Ege.
Surviving are a son, Roger of Huntsville, Ala.; daughters, Mrs. William (June)
Kenipe and Karen Brennen of Fortville; a sister, Mrs. Estille Miller of
Indianapolis; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was also
preceded in death by 2 sisters, Lucille Bond and Theresa Hunter. Funeral

Kostielney Catherine, 79, widow of the late Frank Kostielney, died at her
home in Swan Twp, July 1, from complications of old age. Funeral was Monday in Ege Catholic Church
of which she was a member. Survivors are four sons, Frank
Jr. of Buffalo, N. Y., Michael of Elkhart, Andrew at home, and Martin of Avilla;
two daughters, Mrs. Mary Dembickie of Garrett and Rose at home; 7 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was born in Poland on July 24,
1858 and came to this country many years ago. With her husband, she was a
pioneer of the Ege community and was a staunch member of the Catholic Church

Kostielney Dutch,
87, lifetime Avilla resident, community civic leader and U.S. Army
veteran, died December 30, 2013 at his residence in Avilla. He
was born July 18, 1926, in Avilla, the only son of Martin and Laura (Fulk)
Kostielney. He graduated from Avilla High School in the Class of 1944. On
January 15, 1954, he married Emma Jean “Emmy” Weeks. She died November 5,
2008. He retired as the
Postmaster at the Avilla Post Office after 25 years of service. He was a
decorated war veteran, serving the U.S. Army during
World War II. He received a Purple Heart
after being wounded. He was the Allen Township Trustee
and Assessor, was on the Allen Townsip Advisory Board and was a member of the Avilla American Legion Post #240. Surviving are his son and daughter in
law, Stanley and Janet Kostielney of Lake of the Woods; grandchildren, Matthew
(Rebecca) Kostielney and Nathan Kostielney; a sister, Mary Lou

Kostielney Emma Jean, 78, of Avilla, died unexpectedly Nov. 5, 2008 at her residence.
She had worked at McCray Hospital in Kendallville for 20 years and had been a
member of the Allen Twp Advisory Board. She was born Jan. 1, 1930 in
Albion to Ernest and Olga (Black) Weeks. She married Vaughn
"Dutch" Kostielney in Albion on Jan. 15, 1954. Surviving are her
husband; a son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Janet Kostielney, Lake of the
Woods, Ind.; 4 brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Sue Weeks, southern
Indiana, Bill and Barb Weeks, Albion, and Bob, Carroll Weeks, LaPorte, Dick and
JoAnn Weeks of Iowa; a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Henry Croklin of Sherman, Texas; and 2
grandsons, Matthew and his wife, Rebecca, and Nathan Kostielney. Preceding her in death were 2 sisters, Mary Leffel and Dorothy Rickle; and 2 brothers, George and Kenny Weeks. Services Saturday at Brazzell Funeral Home.

Kostielney Frances, 47, of Swan Twp, died at St. Joseph Hospital
in Fort Wayne Christmas night following an operation. She is survived by her
husband, John; one daughter, Freda; 5 sisters, Mrs. Rose Johnson of Garrett,
Mrs. Anna Johnson of Columbus, O., Mrs. Ida Johnson of Fort Wayne, and Sister
Mary Laurendine of Ill.; 2 brothers, John Stefanski of Garrett and Joseph

Kostielney John, 49, of Green Twp, was found hanging in the barn on his
farm Monday noon by his daughter, Frieda. He had purchased the farm about ten
days ago. A note addressed to the daughter advising her to "Sell everything
and go to live with her Uncle Mike at Elkhart," is said to have been left
by the deceased. Funeral will be held this morning from the Sonday Funeral Home
at Churubusco. Surviving besides the daughter are his mother, Mrs. Frank
Kostielney of Ege; four brothers, Martin of Avilla, Frank of Buffalo, N.Y.,
Michael of Elkhart, and Andrew of Ege; two sisters, Miss Rose of Ege, and Mrs.

Kostielney Laura, 90, died at the home of her son, Vaughn, Sunday. She was born in Avilla on May 5, 1898 to Thomas and Blanche (Smith) Fulks.
She married Martin Kostielney in Ege on November 25, 1925 and he died in 1980.
Surviving are her son; a daughter, Mary Lou of Phoenix, Ariz.; one

Kostielney Martin, 64, of near LaOtto was fatally injured February 10
when the car he was driving crashed head-on with another in a blinding snow
storm. The accident occurred on Highway 205 between Columbia City and
Churubusco. He was born November 12, 1890 on the farm west of LaOtto where he
spent his entire life. His wife, the former Anna Bianski, died March 10, 1921.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Pepple, Swan Twp; two
granddaughters; four brothers, Joseph, Indianapolis; Bernard, Peter and Jerome
of South Bend; and two sisters, Mrs. Andrew Sikorski of Bronson, Mich. and Mrs.
Andrew Oakes of Swan Twp. Services Monday in Ege Catholic Church.

Kostielney Martin F, 83, lifetime area resident, died Friday in Parkview
Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born at Ege Aug. 22, 1896, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Kostielney. He married Laura B. Fulks Nov. 25, 1925 in Ege. He was retired
from Phelps Dodge in Fort Wayne and was a member of its Retiree Club. Survivors
include his wife; a son, Vaughn "Dutch", Avilla; a daughter, Mary Lou,
Phoenix, Ariz.; and a grandson, Stan, Avilla. Two sisters, Mary and Rose; and
four brothers, Andrew, Mike, Frank and Joe, preceded him in death. Services

Kostielney Michael F, 76, Elkhart, who died at his home Friday of
an apparent heart attack. He was born in Ege and married the former Catherine
Long on Jan. 17, 1929, in Elkhart. Survivors include his wife; two brothers,

Kotterman Wilton R, 47, 110 Parker Ave., died today at his
residence. Born in Mexico, Ind., Feb. 16, 1924 , he moved to Kendallville from
rural Logansport 13 years ago and was employed as an operator for Penn Central
Railroad at Wolcottville. He was the son of Harry and Luella Wilson Kotterman.
He was married April 23, 1945 to Luella Bean. Surviving are the widow who is a
bookkeeper at Seagly Hardware; a son, Jeff, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Michael
(Connie) Crist, R. 3, and Mrs. Jackie Miller, 105 Weston Ave.; three
grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Irene Michael and Mrs. Eldon Shulz, both of
Mexico, Ind. A brother and sister preceded him in death. He was a member of
Mitchell Street United Methodist Church and the Brotherhood of Railroad Clerks.

Koughn Elgie M, 85, of 305 W. 3rd St. and a major with the
Salvation Army, died Thursday at his residence. He was born Jan.
27, 1904 in Huntington, the son of Edward and Amanda (Middaugh) Koughn. On April
16, 1926 in Huntington, he married Edith Schaefer, who died in 1979. He lived in
Ligonier since 1985, moving from Huntington. He had been with the Salvation Army
since 1926, retiring in 1970. He was a member of the Huntington Salvation Army
Citadel and Huntington Masonic Lodge. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Aubrey
(Joy) Medley of Littleton, Colo., Lois Knight of Orange, Calif., and Doris
Brewer of Ligonier; a son, Harold of Canton, Ohio; a brother, Robert of
Huntington; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Services

Kovets Nellie, 90, died Thursday in McCray Hospital. She was
born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on Aug. 10, 1902, the daughter of Hilebrand
and Nellie (Zweerus) Blom. On April 24, 1925 in Grand Rapids, Mich. she
married Peter Kovets. He died Feb. 24, 1989. She came to America on
a boat with her family and had lived in Canada before moving to this area.
She had worked in the laundry department of Irene Byron Hospital.
Surviving are a son, William F., of LaOtto; 2 sisters, Pauline Nebbeling of
Grand Rapids, Mich., and Clara Heslin of Toronto, Canada; a brother, Richard
Blom of Stratford, Ontario, Canada; 8 grandchildren and 11
great-grandchildren. A daughter, Betty Traxler; a sister, Anna Marie Blom;
and 2 brothers, Herbert and Peter Blom, preceded her in death. Funeral

Kovets Peter, 88, Ligonier, died Feb. 24 in Heritage Manor Nursing Home,
Ligonier. He was born in Terneuzen, the Netherlands, July 22, 1900, the son of
Joseph and Mary (VanAlts) Kovets. He married Nellie Blom April 24, 1925 in Grand
Rapids, Mich. He had been employed as a foreman for Pennsylvania Railroad.
Surviving are his wife at Sacred Heart Home, Avilla; a son, William of LaOtto; a
sister who resides in Holland; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. A

Krafft Randy L, 44, of Spencerville, died February 27, 2007 at his
home. He was co-owner and operator of Krafft Gravel in Spencerville and a
volunteer firefighter for Spencer Twp Fire Department; a member of Spencerville
Masonic Lodge; a Little League football coach and attended the Coburn Corners
Church of Christ in Spencerville. He was born May 26, 1962 in Auburn to
Gerald and Jennie (Haiflich) Krafft. He married Beverly Edwards on August
20, 1987 in Auburn. Surviving are his wife; his parents in Auburn; 2 sons,
Mike and Cody; and 2 daughters, Brandy and Bailey, all of Spencerville; a sister

Krahn Bertha Marie, 41, wife of Albert K. Krahn of Kendallville, died at
Lakeside Hospital in that city on Monday following an operation for
appendicitis. She was the daughter of Fred and Amelia Hoffmeyer and practically
all her life had been spent in Kendallville. She is survived by the husband, one
sister, Mrs. George Kurtz, of Kendallville, and three stepbrothers, Henry
Hoffmeyer of Kendallville, Christ of Detroit, and Ed of Albany, N. Y. The
funeral will be held this Thursday from St. John’s Lutheran Church

Krahn Pauline S died March 9, 1965 in the Kondas Nursing Home. She
was born in Noble County May 23, 1883 and was a lifetime resident of the area,
recently living in Kendallville. Her husband, Albert, died in March 1959.

Kramer Fannie (Wolf), past 94, died Tuesday from infirmities of age.
Funeral was this afternoon from the home of the son, Sam, 312 S. State St.
Burial, family lot at a Columbia City Cemetery. She was born in Bavaria, Rhine,
Germany, Feb. 20, 1840. She came to America
in 1858, landing in New York in Oct. after traveling 39 days on a sail boat
across the ocean. She went immediately to Philadelphia, Pa. where she resided
until 1864. It was in that year that she met Abraham Kramer of Columbia City.
They were married that year and went to housekeeping at Columbia City. They had
eight children, 4 of whom survive. Abraham died at Columbia
City July 26, 1896. She was a neighbor and personal friend of the late vice
president, Thomas R. Marshall. Surviving are 4 sons, Emil and Nate, Chicago;
Ben, Milwaukee, Wis., and Sam, this city; 14 grandchildren and 18

Kramer Marguerite E, 90, a resident of the Lutheran Home, died today. She was born Jan. 15, 1892 in Kendallville and was married Oct. 4,
1930 in Fort Wayne to Victor Kramer. He died in 1956. She returned to
Kendallville in 1965 after residing in Fort Wayne for about 50 years. She
retired after serving 27 years as hospital executive manager in Fort Wayne and
is a member of the First Christian Church, Kendallville, and the Kendallville
Study Club. Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Maxine Kelly, Anchorage, Alaska. +

Kramer Mary Zimmer was born Jan. 7, 1839 in Germany and died at the home of her son, Frank A. Zimmer, near Napoleon, Ohio on Dec. 23,
1923, aged 84 years, 11 months, 16 days. She was married to John Zimmer July 4,
1864, and they had two children, Frank A., and Katie, the
daughter dying in infancy. In 1867 her husband died. In 1869 she was married to
George Kramer, and they had nine children, five of whom have died. In 1900 her husband died and since that time she
made her home mainly with her son, Frank A. Zimmer. She is survived by three
half-sisters, three sons and two daughters. She was a member of the Catholic
Church of Napoleon, Ohio, where the last ritual services were held Dec. 26,

Kramer Norma, 56, wife of Sam Kramer of Kendallville, died at the family
home here Saturday of a heart attack. Born in Germantown, Pa., she went to
Chicago with her parents and in 1905 she was married, the couple
coming to Kendallville in 1922. She was active in the social and civic affairs
of this city. Surviving are her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Adele Ruderman of

Kramer Richard M "Ricky" (PFC), was killed at Camp
Bliss, Texas on July 17. The son of Mrs. Leonard Ragan, he had been in the Army
for less than a year. His death was due to a military accident. He spent most of
his life in the Hammond area where his funeral was held July 23 with full
military services. Survivors are his wife, Doris; his mother and stepfather,
Leonard Ragan, Hammond; two brothers, Donald and Earl Parr, and a sister,
Katherine Parr, all of Hammond; and a stepbrother, Duane Ragan, Fort Wayne. Mrs.

Kraner Anna, 74, of Kendallville, died at her home Sunday.
Born at Sunbury, Pa., she spent her girlhood there and later moved to Allen
County where she married Jacob Kraner in 1870, who preceded
her in death 17 years ago. They had seven children. Surviving are
Mrs. Harriet Austin, Mrs. Cora Herb, Mrs. Beulah Stutsman and Mrs. Katherine
Kimmell of Kendallville, and Mrs. Edith Virgil of Elkhart; 12 grandchildren.

Kraner Jacob, 72, pioneer baker and restaurateur of Kendallville, died at his home in this city this morning from apoplexy. He was born in Baden,
Germany and came to America in 1852, locating at Wapakoneta, Ohio, where he
lived about a year, moving from there to Marion County, Ohio. He came to Indiana
about 39 years ago, locating first at Fort Wayne, then coming to Kendallville a
year later. He established the Kraner bakery at the corner of Mitchell and Main
Streets, which has been in operation ever since. He is survived by a wife and 7
children, Frank of Pine Bluff, Ark., Mrs. Virgil of Mishawaka, and Mrs. Fred
Austin, Mrs. Archie Kimmel, the Misses Beulah and Cora, and Claude of this city.
There are also 4 brothers, George of Portland, Ind., and William, Edward and

Kraner Margaret J, 78, died Tuesday in Shepherd of the Hill nursing
home. She was born Feb. 17, 1921 in LaGrange to Morton and Kathryn (Gutelius) Long. On Feb. 23, 1941 in Paris, Ky., she married Raymond E.
Kraner. He died in March 1976. She retired in 1982 as bookkeeper for
King-Seeley. She was a member of VFW Post 2749 Auxiliary and Iota Iota
alumni chapter of Delta Theta Tau. Surviving are 2 daughters and
sons-in-law, Karen and George Sedgwick and Kathy and John Maxson of

55-year Kendallville resident who was employed as a division manager at Sears 14
years. He was a member of VFW in Kendallville and a deacon at First Christian

Kendallville in July. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church here.
Surviving are one son, Robert, Buffalo, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Raeann and

William Ensor, Kendallville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph who

Kraus Joseph A, 91, died Sunday at his home on N. Main St.

Baden, Germany and had lived in Avilla for the past 78 years. He was in the
hardware and filling station business, having retired 20 years ago. He was a
member of the St. Mary’s Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles,
Kendallville. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1921 and by a brother and
two sisters. He is survived by a daughter, Mary, a son, Carl H., Fort Wayne; two

Kraus Max, 77, vice president of Allied Seed Co., died
Monday at St. Joseph’s Hospital. A native of Columbia City, the son of Leopold
and Sarah (Trauerman) Kraus, he entered business with his father as a rural
produce buyer following his graduation from high school in 1885. He was married
to Julia Wetstein of Cincinnati in 1897 and the family came to Fort Wayne in
1913. He was active in the Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club, a
member of Masonic Blue Lodge at Columbia City and the WMCA, the Country Club,
and the Izaak Walton League. Rites are Thursday at Getz & Cahill Funeral

Noble Hospital. He was born May 26, 1978 in Goshen to Jan Kreager.
He married Charako Taylor on May 19, 2004 in Albion. He was employed by

Kreager Howard, 30, was electrocuted Aug. 13 while working in Elkhart
directing the operation of putting up an asphalt mixer plant. The boom of the
crane moving a conveyor came in contact with high voltage lines, sending 24,000
volts though his body. He was born Oct. 14, 1922 at Cromwell, the son of Mrs.
Fern (Moschel) Kreager and the late Tony Kreager and had graduated from Cromwell
High School in 1942. He was married that year to Betty Jean Short of Franklin,
Ind., and entered the Navy in Nov. 1942, being discharged in Nov. 1945. For the
past 2 ˝ years he had been chief mechanic for Reith-Riley Construction Co.
Surviving are his mother; his wife; and two daughter of South Bend; four
brothers, Bob of Goshen, George, Jack and Jake of Cromwell; and three sisters,
Mrs. Doris Tapp of Cromwell, and Mrs. Josephine Wolf and Mrs. Ruth Elijah of

Kreager Jack J, 48, of Ligonier, died Sunday (d. 10-28-1979) at his residence. Born March 9, 1931 in
Spencer, he was the son of Tony and Fern (Moschel) Kreager. On June 24,
1951 in Cromwell he married Evelyn Musser. He was a lifetime resident of the
Ligonier-Cromwell community and was a member of the firm Kreager Brothers
Excavators. He was a member of Big Brothers-Big Sisters, Cromwell A&FM Lodge
No. 705, Cromwell Craft Club, Mizpah Shrine and Scottish Rite, both of Fort
Wayne, and the Ligonier Elks Lodge. Survivors are a son, Tony of Cromwell; a

Kreager Jacob E, 68, Cromwell, died Thursday in Parkview Hospital, Fort
Wayne. He was born May 21, 1920 in Cromwell, the son of Tony and Fern (Moschel)
Kreager. He married Violet Dyer June 8, 1941. He lived in Cromwell most of his
life and was a partner in Kreager Brothers Inc., an excavating contracting firm.
He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps during WW II and a member of Stone’s
Hill Community Church. Surviving with his wife are a son, Jerry, Cromwell; three
sisters, Mrs. Robert (Doris) Tapp and Mrs. Chet (Josephine) Wolf, both Cromwell,
and Mrs. Max (Ruth) Elijah, Ligonier; two brothers, Bob of Goshen, and George of

Kreager L Fern, 72, Cromwell, died this morning at her residence.
Born Dec. 29, 1894 in LeRoy, Ill., she was a resident of the Cromwell community
for the last 60 years. She married Tony Kreager on July 19, 1915 and he died in
1955. She was a member of the Cromwell Methodist Church. Surviving are four
sons, Jake and George, both of Cromwell, Bob, Goshen, Jack, Ligonier; three
daughters, Mrs. Robert (Doris) Tapp, Cromwell, Mrs. Chester (Josephine) Wolf and

Kreger Neil F, 73, of Churubusco, died Oct. 15, 2009 at his home.
He was a farmer and retired as a trucker for Elway Trucking in Fort Wayne.
He was a member of the Teamster's Union, American Legion Post 157 in Churubusco
and Albion FOE. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was born in Fort
Wayne on Nov. 25, 1935, a son of Kenneth and Hazel (Peck) Kreger.

Center Sunday. She was born in Noble County July 13, 1900, the daughter
of George and Alma (Halferty) Rauh. She married Harry W. Krehl Nov. 23, 1921. He
died July 9, 1979. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, West Fairfield, its
Ladies Aid Society and the DeKalb County Home Demonstration Club. Surviving are
a son, Norman, R. 1, Corunna; a sister, Flossie Bahls, Kendallville; a brother,
Herbert, Burr Oak, Mich.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A

Hospital. Born in Helmer Nov. 4, 1895, he was the son of Charles and Anna (Engler)
Krehl. On April 5, 1942 in Kendallville he married Rosie Forker who died April
10, 1968. He was a lifetime Helmer resident, farmer and veteran of WW I. He was
a member of Zion Lutheran Church and American Legion. Surviving are three
nieces, Mrs. William (Mildred) Rottmiller and Mrs. Harold (Dorothy) Blech,
Kendallville, and Mrs. Richard (Mabel) Frick of Corunna. Two brothers preceded

Krehl William F, a Lake Shore railway clerk, committed suicide at his
home in Kendallville Saturday by shooting himself in the head with a 38
caliber revolver. Mrs. Krehl had just returned from a few days visit with her
parents at Ashley and on entering their home found his body stretched upon the
kitchen floor. He was 33 years of age, had been married six years and was in
comfortable circumstances. He had purchased the gun that afternoon and two other
shells had missed fire when he attempted to kill himself. He left the following
note, "The wages of sin is death. I had not the courage to say no when
enticed by evil companions and this is the result. May this be a warning to all.
My life has been a failure. This is the result of wanting to be a good fellow.
May God forgive what I have done. W. F. Krehl. P.S. - Warning to all. Leave
drink alone." He is survived by his wife, parents, three brothers and three

Kreienbrink J Fred, farmer, died at his home last night
after an extended illness. He was born September 4, 1830, in Hanover, Germany,
and when he was 3 years of age his parents emigrated to this county,
locating at Cincinnati, Ohio. At the age of 14 he learned the tailor’s trade,
and later conducted a clothing store at Covington, Ky., until 1866, when he came
to this county, purchasing the farm on which he resided until his death. In 1853
he was married to Miss Maria E. Barringhaus. They had ten
children, two of whom died at a tender age, while his widow and eight
children remain. Interment occurred March 13 from St. Mary’s

Kendallville 30 years, she had been employed by McCray Hospital for 17 years,
was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, Kendallville, and the Rosary

Kreiger Mary Christina (Munt), mother of Herman, Anson and Frank Kreiger,
died at her home north of this city Wednesday. Funeral will be at the M. E.

in Mecklenberg, Germany in 1831 and was left an orphan at 3 years of age, making
her home with an uncle and a niece, her only living relatives. When about 17 she
sent to friends at Kendallville, borrowed the money to pay her passage here,
working hard for 3 years to pay. Then she married Henry Kreiger. They had
8 children, 4 of whom died in infancy. Four grew to adults. The
sister, Mrs. Emma Zonker, died about 4 years ago. Henry Kreiger, the father,
died about 13 years ago. Upon the death of Mrs. Zonker, her 4 children were
taken to the Kreiger home and became a part of the family. The remaining
children are citizens of Kendallville. She died May 23. ^ 6-8-1906

She was born in LaGrange March 8, 1887, a daughter of J. Harve and Ida (Ruehart)
Reynolds and was married Aug. 20, 1909 in Noble County to Forrest E. Kreiger who
died Feb. 23, 1967. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ruth E. Whitson, R. 3; one
grandchild; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Wayne-based Equipment Resale, a business he built over 28 years. He was a
1973 graduate of East Noble High School and was preceded in death by his father,

mother, Carol of Kendallville; a sister, Ellen Blasi of Fort Wayne; and 2

former member of its Ladies Aid. Surviving are six daughters, Elizabeth Zawadzke,

Cindy, Joseph and Janet, and Richard Kretler, all of Avilla; 2 daughters and
sons-in-law, Lisa and Jon Spaw of Kendallville and Tina and Mark Ball of Fort
Wayne; a brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Pauline Kretler of DeBarry,
Fla.; and 11 grandchildren, Tiffany, Heather, Jakob, Kayla, Jessica, Ashley and
Andrew Kretler, Braden Ball, Samantha, Erica and Jon-Matthew Spaw. He was
preceded in death by a son, Robert, on September 27, 1979; a grandson, John M.
Kretler II; and a brother, Johann. He was a tool and die maker and one of
the original partners of XY Tool & Die in LaOtto and remained with the
company form 1971 to 1991. He had lived in Noble County since 1968.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and member of American Legion Post 242 in Albion and
a 50-year member of the Fort Wayne Sports Club. He played and coached
soccer for several years. Services Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church
in Avilla. Burial, St. Mary's Cemetery with graveside military rites by

Kretler Robert, 17, died of injuries sustained in a one-vehicle traffic
accident last Thursday on SR 3 at Swan. He was born Dec. 28, 1961 to Mr.
and Mrs. Matthias Kretler of R. 1, Avilla. Also surviving are two sisters, Lisa
and Tina; three brothers, Joseph, John and Richard, all at home; a grandfather,
Joseph Erndle, Toledo, Ohio; and a grandmother, Anna Kretler of Fort
Wayne. Funeral mass Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial, St. Mary’s

Kretschmer Leona, 62, of Edina, Minn.,
formerly of Avilla, died. She is survived by her husband Walter; three children
and a number of grandchildren. Two brothers, Henry Duehmig of Avilla and Eugene
Duehmig of Fort Wayne; and one sister, Mrs. James L. (Mary) Collins of Danville,
Ind., also survive. Two brothers preceded her in death. Funeral mass May 1

Kretzmann Elizabeth, 60, wife of Rev. M. F. Kretzmann, pastor of St. John’s
Lutheran Church at Kendallville, died Thursday at Lakeside Hospital from
peritonitis. Funeral Sunday at the church. Burial, Lake View Cemetery.

Kretzmann Elizabeth Ann, 73, died Sunday at Parkview Hospital, Fort
Wayne. She was born July 25, 1917 in Kendallville, the daughter of Walter
and Mathilda (Misselhorn) Pfaffman. On Jan. 11, 1942 she married Rev.
Gerhard Kretzmann in Kendallville. She was a member of St. John Lutheran
Church. Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Steven (Ann Elizabeth)
Hansen of Eagle, Colo.; 4 sons, Walter of Marshalltown, Iowa, James of Toledo,
Ohio, Martin of Denver, Colo., and Kurt of Ky.; 2 sisters, Clara Boldt of
Shakopee, Minn., Margaret Behrmann of Greensburg; and 6 grandchildren.
Services Wednesday in St. John Lutheran Church. Burial, Lake View

Kretzmann Gerhard R, 84, died Jan. 21, 2001 at Parkview Noble
Hospital. He was born April 13, 1916 in Kendallville to the Rev. Martin
and Elizabeth (Wessel) Kretzmann. He graduated from Concordia Seminary,
St. Louis, Mo. and was ordained and installed as pastor of Valley Lutheran
Church in Chagrin Falls, Ohio on Jan. 4, 1942. He married Elizabeth
Pfaffman on January 11, 1942. She died Feb. 17, 1991. He served
various pastorates and retired in 1982 but served as an interim and visitation
pastor at St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville. He and his family
lived in the home that had belonged to his wife's grandfather. Surviving
are a daughter and son-in-law, Ann Elizabeth and Steve Hansen of Eagle, Colo.; 4
sons and a daughter-in-law, Walter of Marshalltown, Iowa, James and Kris of
Mansfield, Ohio, Martin of Denver, Colo., and Kurt of Fort Mitchell, Ky.; 2
sisters and a brother-in-law, Elfrieda and Charles Sudhoff of Pekin, Ill., and
Erna Fenker of LaPorte; 7 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also
preceding him in death were 2 brothers, Martin and Alfred. Services
Thursday at St. John Lutheran Church. Burial, Lake View Cemetery. ^

Kretzmann Lydia M, 87, died Sunday in McCray
Hospital. Born in Cleveland, Ohio April 17, 1891, she was the daughter of Carl
and Elizabeth (Polack) Kretzmann. She attended school in Farmers Retreat. She
was a nurse at Howell, Mich., Denver, Colo., South Bend and the Lutheran Home.
Survivors are one brother, Augusta, Denver, and several nieces and nephews.
Sisters Mrs. Elizabeth Poch, Adella Weber, Frieda and Anna Kretzmann and two
young sisters; and brothers, Carl, Paul and Rev. Martin Kretzmann preceded her
in death. Funeral Wednesday at the Lutheran Home chapel. Burial,

Kretzmann Martin J, 57, of Kendallville died May 3, 2011, in his
residence. He was employed at St.
John Lutheran Church. He received
his PhD from the University of Denver and was a professor of sociology while in
Colorado. He was a member of St.
John Lutheran Church in Kendallville. He
was born Oct. 30, 1953, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Rev. Gerhard and Elizabeth
(Pfaffman) Kretzmann. Surviving are
his wife, Kim Callihan-Kretzmann of Kendallville; 3 grandchildren;
a sister, Ann (Steven) Hansen of Forsyth, Mo.; 3 brothers, Walter Kretzmann of
Marshalltown, Iowa, Eric (Kris) Kretzmann of Mansfield, Ohio, and Kurt (Judi)
