Kitchen Doyle A, 88, died July 19, 2007 at his
Kendallville home. He owned and operated Kitchen TV and Appliance in
Wolcottville for 37 years and was also a farmer and worked at McCray
Refrigeration in his earlier days. A graduate of Wolcottville High School,
he was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and Moose Lodge 1301 of
Kendallville. He was born in LaGrange County on June 18, 1919 to Aaron
Davis and Mary Magdalene (Fisher) Kitchen. He married Evelyn Mae Hoover on
April 12, 1941. Surviving are his wife; 3 daughters, Connie and Harold
Doutt of Albion, Julie and Tim Pease of Kendallville and Vicki Lash of
Kendallville; a son, Rodney and Connie Kitchen of Wolcottville; 9 grandchildren,
Brian Beckley, Carie Beckley, Andrea and Paul Hendrixson, Mark and Heather
Pease, Kristin Pease, Jeni and Jeremy Cripe, Angie Lash, Tara and Shannon Layne
and Aaron and Whittany Kitchen; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Phyllis Brandt
of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Marjorie Rowlison of LaGrange. He was
preceded in death by 2 sisters, Margaret Hoy and Mary Kitchen; and a brother,

Kitchen Evelyn M, 86, of Kendallville, died December 6, 2011, at Lutheran
Life Villages in Kendallville. She was born in Wawaka on April 27, 1925,
to Charles L. Hover and Lulu G. (Ritter) Hover Wells. She married Doyne
Kitchen on April 12, 1941, in LaGrange and he died July 19, 2007. She and
her husband owned and operated Kitchen TV and Appliance in Wolcottville for 37
years. She was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in
Kendallville. Survivors include her daughters, Connie and Harold Doutt of
Albion, Julie and Tim Pease of Kendallville, Vicki Lash of Kendallville; 8
grandchildren, Carie Beckley, Andrea and Paul Hendrixson, Mark and Heather
Pease, Kristin Pease, Jeni and Jeremy Cripe, Angie Lash, Tara and Shanon Layne,
and Aaron and Whittany Kitchen, 11 great-grandchildren. She was also
preceded in death by her son, Rodney Kitchen; her grandson, Brian Beckley; her
brothers, Gerald “Stub,” Wally, Orval and Delbert Hover; her sisters, Mary

Kitchen George M, 83, died at the home of his son, G. L.
Kitchen at Wawaka, from complications. He is survived by five children, Frank of
St. Joe, Harley of Ottawa, O., Mrs. Lewis Reeder of Brighton, Mrs. Bertha Agier
of Bowling Green, O., and G. L. Kitchen of Wawaka. Funeral Friday from the home and at

Kitchen Hazel B, 61, of R. 1, Rome City, died Nov. 28, 1955 in LaGrange County Hospital after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage
while apparently recovering satisfactorily from surgery which she had undergone
Nov. 16. She was a native of Rome City and a lifelong resident of this
community. Surviving are the husband, John Edward Kitchen; a son, Robert, Rome
City; three daughters, Mrs. Helen Kerns, LaGrange, Mrs. Phyllis Miller, Fort
Wayne, and Mrs. Mary Mock, Syracuse; and a brother, Forrest Waldron, Glendale,
Calif. Services Wednesday in Rome City Baptist Church. Burial, Woodland

Kitchen Herbert W, 88, of R. 3, Wolcottville, died Tuesday
in Lutheran Home, Kendallville. He was born in LaGrange County Aug. 20, 1899,
the son of Sheridan and Anna (Rowe) Kitchen. On June 1, 1932 he married Luella
Rawles Perry. He had been a principal and school teacher for 43 years in
LaGrange and Noble County schools. He was a member of Wolcottville United
Methodist Church, Indiana Retired Teachers Association and AARP. Surviving are
his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Harry (Janis) Bailey, Wabash, and Judith Rosevear,
Munster; two sisters, Susie Hostetler, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Mrs. Donald (Isadore)
Henny, Fort Wayne; a brother, Johnie, Los Angeles, Calif.; five grandchildren;

Kitchen Ione Ann, 88, died Dec. 19, 2007 at her Rome City home. She
was retired from the Rome City School cafeteria and was a member of Rehoboth
Church. She was born March 22, 1919 in Lewisburg, West Va. to Howard and
Ida (Dozier) Linthicum. On Sept. 26, 1936 in LaGrange she married John
Kitchen. He died Nov. 3, 2003. Surviving are 3 sons and
daughters-in-law, John and Marcia Kitchen of Rome City, Kenneth and Laura
Kitchen of Matthews, Ind., and Michael and Denise Kitchen of Crown Point, Ind.;
7 daughters and 6 sons-in-law, Marie and Dan Donat of Mt. Vernon, Washington,
Marilyn and Jack Klinefelter of Warsaw, Marceil Ritter of Loveland, Col., Marcia
and Mike Wooten of Wawaka, Maxine and Don Hunter of Acme, Mich., Mary and Steve
Beha of Albany, Oh., and Melody and Brett Huffman of Kendallville; 31
grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; 2 brothers,

Kitchen John Edward, 88, Ligonier, died
Thursday at Goshen Hospital. He had been a resident of Ligonier
for one year. He was born in LaGrange County, the son of Sheridan and Annabelle
(Rowe) and was a retired farmer. He was married Feb. 27, 1915 in Albion to Hazel
Waldron, who died in Nov. 1955. One son, four sisters and one brother preceded
him in death. Surviving are three daughters, Mary Mock of Syracuse, Helen Kerns
of LaGrange and Phyllis Miller of Fort Wayne; and one son, Robert of Rome City;
three brothers, Herbert of Wolcottville, Theron of Fort Wayne, and Johnny of
Calif.; and two sisters, Susie Hostetler of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Isadora
Henney of Fort Wayne; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 10

Kitchen Robert, 85, died Nov. 3, 2003 in Parkview Noble Hospital.
He had farmed in the Rome City area and had retired in 1963 after operating the
Kitchen & Son Milk Service for 20 years. He had attended Rehoboth
Church. He was born Aug. 19, 1918 in LaGrange to Edward and Hazel
(Waldron) Kitchen. On Sept. 26, 1936 in LaGrange he married Ione
Linthicum. Surviving are his wife; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, John and
Marcia of Rome City, Kenneth and Laura of Plymouth and Michael and Denis of
Crown Point; 7 daughters and sons-in-law, Marie and Dan Donat of Mt. Vernon,
Wash., Marilyn and Jack Klinefelter of Warsaw, Marceil and Ron Ritter of
Loveland, Colo., Marcia and Mike Wooten of Wawaka, Maxine and Don Hunter of
Acme, Mich., Mary and Steve Beha of Albany, Ohio, and Melody and Brett Huffman

Kitchen Rodney J, 57, of Wolcottville died Dec. 23, 2010, in Goshen General Hospital.
He was a 1972 graduate of
East Noble High School. He received an associate degree in electronics from ITT
in Fort Wayne. He was owner and operator of Kitchen TV & Appliance in
Wolcottville and Kendallville for 30 years, and had most recently worked at
Crest Homes in Middlebury. He was
born November 15, 1953, in Kendallville to Doyne and Evelyn (Hoover) Kitchen. On
December 2, 1978, in Kendallville he married Connie Ebey.
Surviving are his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Aaron and Whittany
Kitchen of Kendallville; a daughter and son-in-law, Tara and Shanon Layne of
Goshen; four grandchildren, Lucy Kitchen, Peyton Kitchen, Evan Layne and Caleb
Jay Layne; his mother, Evelyn Kitchen of Kendallville; three sisters, Connie and
Harold Doutt of Albion, Julie and Tim Pease of Kendallville, and Vicki of
Kendallville. He was preceded in death by his father. Funeral Dec. 27 in Wolcottville United Methodist Church.

Kitson Elmon Finley, 80, Ligonier, member of the U. S. Regular Army for
many years, served with the army in Indian Territory under President Harrison,
in the Spanish-American War and in the World War. He was a native of Syracuse
and in his adolescent days was a member of the Syracuse cornet band and also
served an apprenticeship in printing. Surviving is a niece. Funeral Saturday

in Noble County June 21, 1861, the son of Jacob and Rebecca Kitson. He
died Nov. 20 in the Hines Veterans Hospital at Oak Park, Ill. His parents
died some years ago, as did his sisters, Mrs. Alda Collar, Mrs. Bird Swartz and

Kitson Maude, 93, a resident of Ligonier until moving to the Fountainview
Nursing Home, Goshen, six years ago, died Tuesday. She was born
Aug. 22, 1888 in Warsaw to Charles and Mary (Cory) Marvel. In 1908 she married
William Kitson, who died in 1967. She was a member of the Ligonier United
Methodist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Maynard (Mary Alice) Miller of
Goshen; a son, Morris; 3 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Kitson Rebecca F, 70, Syracuse, died last
Monday in Goshen Hospital from complications of cancer. Born Aug. 4, 1908 in
Fort Wayne, she had lived in the Syracuse community most of her life and was
retired from Weatherhead Co. She was a member of Wawasee Heights Baptist Church
and Syracuse OES. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Margaret)
Peterson, Chicago, Mrs. Keith (Patricia) Koble, Ligonier, Mrs. Thomas (Janet)
Cotton, Teegarden; one son, Gerald, Warsaw; 17 grandchildren; one
great-grandchild; and four sisters, Mrs. Raymond Kitson, Syracuse, Miss Gertrude
Fleming, Mrs. Edwin Gille, Fort Wayne, and Mrs. David Linstrom, Warren. One son,
Jack, and a sister, Edna, preceded her in death. Funeral Wednesday at

Kitson Walter, 36, of Ligonier, a flight instructor at an army air school
near Fort Morgan, Colo., was one of two men killed Monday in the crash of an
army training plane seven miles east of Fort Morgan. He left Ligonier June 1,
1942. He is survived by the widow, Mary (Snyder); the mother, Pearl, west of
Ligonier; three sons, Lamar, Billy and Bobby; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Carney,
Calif., and Mrs. Mary Schlotterback, Ligonier; and a brother, William, Ligonier.

Kitt David Truman, son of John and Elizabeth Kitt, was born in Wolf Lake Aug. 6, 1856 and
died at his home near Merriam
Feb. 8, 1933, aged 75 years, 6 months and 2 days. He had lived almost his entire
life near his birthplace. He married Lura Stewart Aug. 6,
1882. In 1903 they took into their home Clara Stewart, now Eamick, and raised
her to womanhood and known to them as their foster daughter. He was a charter
member of the K. P. Order at Wolf Lake Lodge No. 397. He leaves his
companion; two brothers, George near Merriam and Charles of Los Angeles,
Calif.; two sisters, May and Ida, living on the old homestead; his foster
daughter and one foster grandchild, Roger Dean Eamick. Funeral Friday at the residence. Burial, Christian Chapel Cemetery. + 2-?-1933
Kitt Della May, about 80, (b. 1-14-1868) died Aug. 28,
1948 at her home in Merriam. She is survived by five nieces, Mrs. Will Barber of
Merriam, Mrs. Inez Johnson of Des Moines, Iowa, Mrs. Lelia Foote of

Kitt Dica, 66, died Sept. 17 at the home near Merriam from cancer.
Surviving are the husband, Omar; three sons, Merle Eamick of Paw Paw Mich., and
Arlo and Will Eamick of Noble County; two sisters, Mrs. John Geiger of Noble
County, and Mrs. Dorlin Winebrenner of Fort Wayne. She was first married to

Kitt Emily Jane was born July 21, 1856 at or near Waukegan, Lake County,
Ill., the daughter of George and Charlotte Page Marsh, a member of a family of
13 children, 7 boys and 6 girls. A sister and 2 brothers were born in England;
her sisters and three brothers preceding her in the sleep of death. At the age
of one year she moved with her parents from Ill. to Webster County, Iowa, where
she grew to womanhood. April 17, 1878 she married John Miles Kitt. They had five children, and Charlotte Grace died at the age
of 11 months. In 1882 with her husband and family, she moved to Noble County, where she lived to the time of her
death, Aug. 11, 1929. She was a member of the Merriam Christian Church. Surviving are her husband; four children, Mrs.
Lelia G. Foote and Mrs. Adda Palmer, Albion, Mrs. Mary Hazel Rimpler, Goshen, and
Mrs. Inez Belle Johnson, Des Moines, Iowa; four grandchildren, Marcelle K.

Kitt George M, 82, native of Noble Twp, died May 28 from a stroke of
paralysis. He was born in Noble Twp Oct. 28, 1853 to John P. and Elizabeth Kitt.
He married Elizabeth Schroeder, who survives with one
daughter, Mrs. William Barber; and two sisters, May and Ida. Funeral

Kitt Hershel M, 90, a resident of the Sacred Heart Home, Avilla, died
there Monday (d.12-10-1984). He was born in Merriam April
15, 1894, the son of Omar and Jennie (Winebrenner) Kitt. On June 12, 1915 he
married Irene Chilcote, who died March 28, 1969. A lifetime Albion area
resident and veteran of WW I, he owned the Chain O’ Lakes Rock Shop in Albion.
He was a member of the Albion American Legion Post. Surviving are 3 sons, Alvin
of Albion, and James and Martin, both of Colorado; 12 grandchildren; and 12

Kitt Irene M, about 72, died Nov. 28, 1969 at McCray
Hospital. She was born Dec. 31, 1896 in Albion, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
James M. Chilcote. She was married to Herschel Kitt on June 12, 1915 in Albion
EUB Church. She and her husband had been operating the Chain O’ Lakes Rock
Shop since his retirement from Chilcote & Kitt, a cabinet-making
company. Surviving are three sons, James O. of Grand Junction, Colo., Martin P.
of Denver, Colo., and Robert Alvin of Albion; nine grandchildren and one

Kitt James Harvey, son of John P. and Elizabeth Hively Kitt, was born on
the old homestead in Noble Twp near the chapel, Feb. 4, 1861, and died at the same place, Dec. 2, 1929, aged 68 years, 9 months and
28 days. He leaves two sisters, Della May and Ida Belle, both residing
on the old home farm; four brothers, George M., John M., David Truman, Noble
County, and Charles W., Los Angeles, Calif. On Sept. 17, 1890 he married Grace
Stangland, and they had two sons, Wilbur and Don, both of whom gave up their lives in the service of their country during the
World War, Wilbur dying at Palo Alto, Calif., Oct. 9, 1923 from sickness
contracted in the service, and Don was killed in action at Chateau Thierry,
France, July 29, 1918. Harve, as he was known to all his friends, lived his
entire life with the exception of a few years sojourn at Auburn, Ind., in Noble

Kitt John Miles, son of John P. and Elizabeth Hively Kitt, was born on
the old homestead in Noble Twp June 23, 1855, and died at the home of his daughter in Albion on Jan. 3, 1931 at the age of 75
years, 6 months and 10 days. He was one of ten children, two sisters and two
brothers having preceded him in death. He leaves four daughters, Lelia
G. Foote of Albion, Sarah Adda Palmer of York Twp, Mary Hazel Rimpler of Goshen,
and Inez Belle Johnson of Des Moines, Iowa; four grandchildren, Marcelle K.
Foote, John and Jane Palmer and Frances Emily Johnson; two sisters, Della May
and Ida Bell, residing on the homestead in Noble Twp; three brothers, George M.
and David Truman of Noble Twp, and Charles W. of Los Angeles, Calif. With the
exception of a few years sojourn in Kansas and Iowa, he lived his entire life in
Noble County, having been twice elected to the office of clerk of the Noble
circuit court. He was a member of the K of P Lodge in Wolf Lake. April 17, 1878
he married Emily Jane Marsh at Webster County, Iowa. They had 5 daughters, Charlotte Grace having died in infancy, and

Kitt Lura A, the daughter of James and Nancy Stewart, was born in
Logan County, Ohio, Aug. 3, 1855, and died at her home near
Merriam March 17, 1934, aged 78 years, 7 months and 14 days. She married David Truman Kitt Aug. 6, 1882. He preceded her
in death Feb. 8, 1933. In 1889 she united with the Merriam Christian Church. She was the foster
mother of Mrs. Orlo Eamich, taking her into their home when she was ten years
old. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Edie Philips of Miami, Fla.; her foster
daughter; one foster grandson. Funeral Monday. Burial, Christian

Kitt Martin P, 77, died Jan. 26, 2002 at the Exempla Colorado Lutheran
Home. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps and the U.S. Navy during WW
II. He was born Jan. 28, 1925 in Albion. He married Helen Haase, who
preceded him in death. On July 25, 1972 in Wheat Ridge, Colo., he married
Alice Diggins Darland. Surviving are his wife; 2 daughters, Deanna Custer
of Arvada and Sandra Partridge; 2 stepchildren; 2 brothers, James of Palisade,
Colo., and Robert of Albion; and 6 grandchildren. A daughter, Robin
Morgan, preceded him in death. His body was donated to the Anatomical
Board of Colorado for use in medical education and science, after which it will

Kitt Omar, about 90, (b. 3-10-1858) a retired farmer and lifelong
resident of the Merriam community, died May 8, 1948 at the home of his son,
Hershel in Albion. He is also survived by a daughter, Mrs. Viva Young, Rome
City; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister, Mrs. Don Stangland
of near Albion. Funeral Monday at Merriam Christian Chapel.

Kitt Paul "Doc" died last
Friday when his speeding auto crashed into the rear of a stalled truck
on Highways No. 30 and 2 about 2 miles west of Fort Wayne. The youngest son of
Omar and Jennie C. Kitt, he was born near Merriam and met his
untimely death near Fort Wayne March 1, 1935, aged 33 years, 8 months and 21
days. He graduated from Wolf Lake High School in May 1919. His mother preceded
him in death in 1916. The last eleven years he roomed at the home of Mrs. Lillie
Evans of Albion. He was the manager of the Albion Auto Sales and a member of the
K of P Lodge of Albion. He is survived by his father, Omar; one sister,
Mrs. Viva Kagey of Garrett, and one brother, Hershel of Albion. Services Sunday at Christian Chapel. Burial, Christian Chapel Cemetery. +

January 1, 2014. He was born on November
11, 1932 the son of Herschel M. and Irene M. (Chilcote) Kitt in Albion. On
December 23, 1950 he married Laura Rice in Wawaka. He is survived by his wife; 4 children,
Brenda (Mack) VanAuken of Arkansas, Paul (Susan) Kitt of Elkhart, John
(Melody) Kitt of Garrett, and Mark (Debra) Kitt of Albion; 11 grandchildren;
16 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Martin
Kitt. A cremation committal will take place at Legacy Cremation &
Remembrance Center in Ligonier. Burial, Sparta

Kitt Sarah Ida Belle, daughter of John T. and Elizabeth Kitt, was born in
Noble Twp June 29, 1869. She was one of a family of 10 children of which only
May survives, and with whom she lived with on the Kitt homestead. She was a

Kitzmiller Neal T, 64, R. 1, Cromwell, died on Oct. 13, 1983 from cancer.
Born on Sept. 2, 1919 in Huntertown, Ind. to William and Blanche (Mountz)
Kitzmiller, he married Evelyn Johnson on Feb. 14, 1939 and resided in Fort
Wayne. He was retired from Norfolk & Western Railroad after 30 years
employment. He then managed Beck Martin Farms Campgrounds. Surviving are his
wife; five sons and three daughters, including Diana Sorg, Cromwell; 21
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six brothers; and seven sisters.

Kizer Ariel, 26, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Kizer, 424 Matthews St., died
at Mishawaka Monday in an automobile accident. He was born July 20, 1907
at South Bend and came to Kendallville with his parents 18 years ago. He
graduated from K.H.S. with the class of 1925. Surviving are the parents; 3
sisters and one brother, Dessie, Bessie, Thomas and Myrtle, all at home. Funeral Thursday from the L. E. Berhalter & Son Funeral Home.

Kizer Maude, 46, died Thursday from cancer and
complications. She was born Nov. 28, 1889, the daughter of J. H. and Etta
Wilson. She was one of six children, and at the age of eleven moved to
Kendallville with her parents. She married Lake W. Kizer of
Mishawaka on Feb. 28, 1907. They had 5 children, Ariel, the oldest

parents of Rome City; three sisters, Mrs. Dessie Donat of Rome City, Mrs. Bessie

Klaren Willetta DeLong, 74, of Lexington, Ky., and formerly of
Kendallville, died Monday in St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington following surgery
three weeks ago. At one time she and her husband, Robert, owned Cree Lake Market
and a donut shop in Kendallville. Her husband died in 1962. Surviving are two
daughters, Virginia Lee Buckner and Roberta DeLong Watts, and a son, Robert
Nicholas, all of Lexington; and three grandchildren. Services Wednesday

Klausing John, 83, died January 31 at his home on E. Quincy St. He had
been a Garrett resident for 45 years. He was born November 17, 1899 in Wren,
Ohio, the son of Rev. John Henry and Emily (Berghegger) Klausing. He married
Gladys Dannenberg at the Garrett Lutheran Church November 24, 1938. Surviving
are his wife; two brothers, George, Traverse City, Mich., and Edmund, Fort
Wayne; three sisters, Mrs. Florentina Sack and Mrs. Lydia Mehl, Big Rapids,

He was a member of the Zion Evangelical Church where he was organist for 50

Kleckner Henry C, a former pastor of the local Lutheran pastorate, died last Monday at his home in the Eberhard settlement near South Whitley
where he was pastor of the local church. He and his family moved to the vicinity
of South Whitley about a year ago from LaGrange where he had been called from

born May 24, 1924 in Garrett, the son of William H. and Helen (Gingery) Kleeman.
He married Katharine VanFleit October 30, 1947. He had worked for the Garrett
Telephone Company, retiring in 1981 after 33 years’ service. He was a WW II

Kendallville Iron & Metal Co., died Monday in a hospital in
Hollywood, Fla. Born in Chicago in 1902, he married Pearl Wikoff May 1, 1927. He
was a member of the Kendallville Elks Club and Lions Club and on the board of
directors of the Campbell & Fetter Bank for many years. He owned
Kendallville Iron & Metal Co. from the late 1920’s to the early 1960’s.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Carolyn Winn of Roslyn, N.Y.; two
sons, Bernard of Pittsburgh, Pa., and David of Indianapolis; three brothers; one

Kline Caleb was born in Morrow County, Ohio June 20, 1834; died in
Kendallville Sept. 2, aged 71 years 2 months and 13 days. He came to this city
when quite young and at the beginning of the Rebellion joined the 30th Ind. Regt.; saw active service, was discharged on account of disabilities, but
when able re-enlisted and went to the front until the close of the war.
Excepting 2 years that he was an inmate of the Soldiers’ Home, Marion, Ind.,
he has been resident of this place. His wife, 5 sons and 3 daughters survive.

1946 in Kendallville she married Russell E. Kline, who died Aug. 24, 1982. She
moved from Kendallville to Sturgis in 1947. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran

Hospital. He was born on August 17, 1934 in Albion to Ivan and Claudia (Ruffing)
Kline. He married Ethel Wallen on December 24, 1954 in Brimfield.
She survives. He retired in August 1996 from J. B. Tool Die &
Engineering in Fort Wayne. He was a member of American Legion Post 240 in
Avilla and VFW Post 2749 in Kendallville. He is also survived by a

that he worked 13 years for International Harvester in Fort Wayne and for

Kline John Washington, a settler of the year 1846 who died at his home
three miles northeast of Albion on April 15, 1896, was a native of the state of
Pa. He was born in York County of that state April 17, 1821, and therefore
lacked but two days of 75 years. At the age of 11 years he went with his parents
to Canton, Ohio in 1832 and resided there or in that vicinity for 13 years. In
1845, being 24 years old, he joined the Masonic order. The next year, 1846, he
came to Noble County, arriving here in Nov. Two years and a half afterward he
married Elizabeth, a daughter of Lewis Potts, a pioneer of 1836. The marriage
took place on the 19th of May, 1850, and on the 4th of
Aug. following, less than 3 months from their wedding day, the young wife died. In 1854, Dec. 21, he married Louisa, the sister of
his deceased bride, and this union continued until his death.
His wife, one daughter, six grandchildren, the son-in-law and one sister
survive. The sister is Mrs. Christiana Skinner of Albion, widow of James
Skinner, the pioneer of Jefferson Twp who died many years ago. He was
a carpenter by trade, having served his apprenticeship in Ohio before coming to
Noble County. His widow, Mrs. Louisa (Potts) Kline, who is one of the first
pioneers, her continuous residence in Jefferson Twp dating back to 1836, remains
at the old Kline homestead three miles northeast of Albion. With her are their
only daughter, Mrs. Eugenia Belt, her son-in-law, Edwin Belt and six
grandchildren. A sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Schaff, reside in
Albion. Mrs. Kline and Mrs. Schaff are daughters of Lewis Potts, a pioneer of
1836 who took a leading part in the early affairs of Jefferson Twp. + Clippings

Kline John Wilson was born April 15, 1857 in Avilla, and died August 24,
1893, at the home of his mother, aged 36 years, 4 months and 9 days. Funeral
took place in the Evangelical Church at Avilla August 25. He leaves a mother, three sisters and two brothers, with many relatives.

Kline on Sept. 25, 1966 in Brimfield. Surviving are her husband; 3 sons

Kline Lester Washington, 54, a retired restaurant owner in Avilla and
Auburn and a resident of Auburn and Fairfield Twp most of his life died at his home in Auburn
last Friday after suffering a fatal
heart attack. He was born on July 4, 1896 in Fairfield Twp, the son of William
and Annie Kline, both now deceased. William Kline was a well-known baker,
selling his products from house to house in Auburn a number of years ago. About
two years ago he purchased a restaurant in Avilla and operated it until the time
of his heart attack. He was then instructed by his physician to cease active
work and the family moved to their home in Auburn. He married Audrey Leins at Coldwater, Mich. on July 16, 1915. She formerly resided in
the Corunna community. Other survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Glenn
Parsell of Hudson, Ind., Mrs. Donald LaCroix of Vermont, Ill., Mrs. Ralph Barkey
and Mrs. Everett Stebing both of Auburn; a son Charles Kline of Delmar, Iowa,

Kline Lola Marie, 94, died May 31, 1995 in her home in
Kendallville, where she had lived for 64 years. She was born May 6, 1901
in Goshen to Edward D. and Josephine Frances (Eytcheson) Miller. On March
22, 1919 in Albion she married Carl Kline. He died Oct. 10, 1980.
She was a factory worker at various places, including McCray Refrigerator, Wheel
Works, both Kendallville, and the Novelty Factory in Albion. Surviving are
3 daughters, Josephine Becker and Barbara Owsley of Wolcottville and Patricia
Schofield of Sturgis, Mich.; 3 sons, Raymond of Brimfield, Oscar of Ligonier and

Sacred Heart Home in Avilla. Born Jan. 5, 1902 in Wayne Twp, she
was the daughter of Homer and Nettie (Emerick) Barker. She married Harold J.
Kline Aug. 14, 1921 in Kendallville. She was a lifetime resident of this area, a
member of the Faith United Methodist Church, and a charter member of Wayne Twp
Home Economics Club. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Paul

Kline Minnie, about 90, widow of Edwin Kline who once operated a
grocery store in Cromwell, died Aug. 12, 1964 at her home in Cromwell
following a heart attack. She had been a resident of Cromwell for 64 years. She
was born April 11, 1874 in Whitley County. She was a member of Calvary
Lutheran Church and the Pythian Sisters at Cromwell and the Eastern Star in
Ligonier. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Paul Beaverforden of Columbus, Ohio,

Kline Norton, 83, a resident of Sturgis and vicinity all his life, died Friday at Niles. He was attending a meeting of the Circuit
Assembly when stricken. He was born in Florence Twp on Jan. 31, 1886, a son of

Burr Oak on June 13, 1897. He was associated with the Jehovah Witnesses Church.

He was a technical engineer at Magnavox in Fort Wayne for 33 years, retiring in

the U.S. Army he served in the Korea Conflict. He was born April 4, 1933

He was born on May 31, 1960, the son of Oscar and Marguerite (Randol) Kline in
McCray Memorial Hospital. On September 29, 1991, he married Patricia G. Collins.
Surviving are his wife; his children, Ian, Gia, Kia, and Patrick; one
grandchild, Kaci Rae; his siblings, Karen (Charles) Anglin of Cromwell, Calvin
(Julie) Kline of Syracuse, and Randy Kline of Ligonier. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenny Kline; and a
sister, Connie Parsons. He was a 1979 graduate of West Noble High School and later earned a
degree in Mortuary Science from Mid-America College of Funeral Service. He was
a member of the Pi Sigma Eta National Morticians Fraternity. During his career
worked for and assisted in many area funeral homes including Billings Funeral
Home, Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Sheets & Childs Funeral Home,

at the home of her son in LaGrange County. She had suffered from
Alzheimer's disease for more than nine years. She was born January 15,
1915 to Charles and Vesta (Witt) Whitney in Kendallville. She married
Everett B. Kline in 1935 and they owned and operated Clover Leaf Egg and Cream
Co. on Main St. in Kendallville for more than 30 years. After her
husband's death in 1972, she went to work at McCray Hospital as a dietitian
until her retirement. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and
Linda Kline of rural LaGrange; 3 grandchildren, Steve Murphy of Avilla, Eric
Murphy of Blackman Lake, and Michael Paris of Goshen; and 4

Kline William J, about 83, of South Bend, father of Mrs. Gladys Campbell,
died May 3, 1964 at St. Joseph’s Hospital where he had been a patient
four weeks after a fall off the porch of his home. He and his wife, who died in
1961, were chosen in 1955 as the Nation’s Grandparents, having over 100
grandchildren at that time. They appeared on the Welcome Travelers Show in
Chicago and also on the Garry Moore Show I’ve Got a Secret in New York.
Surviving are 8 daughters, 4 sons, 2 brothers, 6 sisters; and a great number of
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral May 6 in River Park

Kline William J Mrs., 76, mother of Gladys E. Campbell of Albion, died in her home in South Bend Jan. 7, 1961. Services were
held at the Church of Christ in River Park, where she was an active member, on
Jan. 10. Interment was at Plymouth. Survivors include her husband, William; 7
daughters and 4 sons. She was known as "Grandma" Kline to her Albion
friends and was very helpful in many ways in our War Mothers’ Club. She and
her husband appeared on the Garry Moore television show, I’ve Got a Secret in
June 1955, wearing the title of "Grandparents of the United States"
with 100 grandchildren. Until the time of her death the couple still held the

peritonitis. She was taken to the hospital Feb. 7 for an operation. Surviving
are the parents; four brothers, Walter, Jesse, Norman and Delphus; three
sisters, Ellen, Theo and Barbara, all at home; and the grandparents, Mrs. Francena
Klinger and Mr. and Mrs. William Christlieb of DeKalb County. She was born
in Swan Twp in 1918 and lived with her parents southeast of Ege until a year ago
when she went to Fort Wayne to work. She was a member of the Nazarene Church

Klinger Jesse H, 83, died Jan. 5, 2004 at Betz Nursing Home in
Auburn. He was a truck driver for Courier-Newsome for several years and a
U.S. Army veteran of WW II. He was a member of Jesus' Name Church in Fort
Wayne. He was born Oct. 25, 1920 in Noble County to William H. and Blanche
(Christlieb) Klinger. He married Edyth Marie Wahls on June 11, 1950 in
Fort Wayne. She died March 3, 1998. Surviving are 2 sons, Daniel and
Howard; 3 brothers, Delphus Klinger, Norman Klinger, and Theo Claus; 2 sisters,
Joanne Slater and Barbara Stoner; and several grand and

Klinger Marie V, 78, of Avilla, died Jan. 28 in a vehicle-pedestrian
accident near Avilla. She lived in Avilla. She worked at Bauman & Harnish in
Garrett for 23 years, retiring in 1981. She was a member of the Garrett Church
of the Nazarene, Farm Bureau, and the Work & Witness Mission, building homes
in Brazil, Barbados, Mexico, Africa, Venezuela, Jordan, Jamaica and Puerto Rico.
She was born July 2, 1919 in Noble County to R. T. and Lillie (Yarian) Pfleidner.
She married Walter W. Klinger on March 1, 1941 in Churubusco. He died Aug. 30,
1997. Surviving are a son, Rev. Gary Klinger of Anderson; 2 daughters, Beverly
Foreman of Bluffton, and Carolyn Parker of Kendallville; 4 grandchildren and one
great-grandchild. One sister, Loretta Anderson; and one brother, Raymond

employed 14 years at Dana Corp., Churubusco. Surviving are her husband; one son,

Manor Healthcare Center. He was a farmer for 54 years and worked for Skelgas for

Mexico, Africa, Venezuela, Jordan, Jamaica and Puerto Rico. He was born March
10, 1919 in Churubusco to William and Blanche (Christlieb) Klinger. He

Klinger William H, 84, was born in Noble County to Levi and Francena (Harrold)
Klinger Dec. 8, 1889 and married Blanche M. Christlieb in Noble County in 1916.

years and died Friday in Glen Oaks Nursing Home in Auburn. He was a retired

wife of Paul G. Klinkenberg, local druggist, died Sunday at the family home, 223 S. Orchard St. Death was reported due to
gastro-enteritis. She was born Oct. 8, 1879 in this city, the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Frederick Myers. When a child she was taken into the home of the late
L. Beckman where she was reared to womanhood and made her home until May 1912
when she married Paul G. Klinkenberg. She was a member of

Klinkenberg Nancy Ann, 60, died May 24, 2007 at Byron Health Center in
Fort Wayne, where she had been a resident with multiple sclerosis for 24
years. She was born in Kendallville on Jan. 30, 1947 to Robert C. and Cora
(Koon) Klinkenberg. A graduate of Kendallville High School, she graduated
from Indiana University in 1969 and taught school in Bloomington and
Kendallville. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and Alpha Delta Sorority, Beta Phi Chapter. Survivors include uncles, nieces and
nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert, in 1995.

Klinkenberg Robert C, 90, died Nov. 6, 2003 at Parkview Noble
Hospital. He operated Klinkenberg Drug Store on S. Main St. until 2000
when he was forced to retire following an automobile accident. The drug
store was founded July 2, 1889 by his father. After it ceased to be a drug
store, he and his father continued to sell sundries, sporting goods and
magazines. The business had a soda fountain, ice cream freezer, root beer
barrel, wooden cash register and antique drug store items. He was a member
of the Kendallville Kiwanis Club and St. John Lutheran Church. He was born
April 10, 1913 in Kendallville, the son of Paul G. and Fredericka (Meyers)
Klinkenberg. On Aug. 7, 1938 he married Cora Koon. She died July 14,
2002. Surviving are a daughter, Nancy of Fort Wayne; 2 grandsons, Michael
of Dallas, Texas and Rob of Fort Wayne; 2 granddaughters, Sherri Jankowski and
Shannon Klinkenberg; and 8 great-grandchildren. Also preceding him in
death were a son, Robert; a half-brother, Paul; and a half-sister, Esther.

Knach Frances K, 73, a lifelong resident of the Swan community, died at
her home northwest of there March 4, after suffering a cerebral

was a farmer of the community. While he had been in declining health he was able
to be about, and his death came as a shock to his many friends. Surviving are

daughter-in-law, Frank and Betty Knach of Rome City; a daughter and son-in-law,

Knach Martin of Swan Twp, who has been a resident of Noble County for 45
years, died yesterday of a complication of diseases coupled
with old age. He was nearly 85 years old and until the 7th of Feb.
last had never been attended by a physician. He comes of hardy stock, all of his
brothers having lived to a ripe old age and all dying more or less suddenly. He
still has one brother living at South Bend who is 86 years old and he is also

at Merriam where her husband operated a garage. They later moved to a farm in

Parkview LaGrange Hospital. He was a self-employed carpenter and stone
mason. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 276, Kendallville. He was born
November 26, 1918, in Wolf Lake to Arthur and Elsie (Ennen) Knafel. On January
1, 1940, in Kendallville, he married Bonnie Wray. She preceded him in death on
February 19, 1972. On July 10, 1973, in Hayward, Wisconsin, he married
Carol (Ross) Wirick. Surviving are his wife; two daughters and

Jessie Coquillard. He was a lifetime county resident and a member of Trinity

Kendallville. Born May 18, 1897 in Berkeley, Ill., she was the daughter

Jan. 10, 1998 in his residence. He was born Nov. 24, 1916 in Noble County to

Jefferson Twp Advisory Board and was past Jefferson Twp trustee. He was a member

Whitley Products in Pierceton and a member of Larwill Lions Club

many years as the bar manager, and she was also a member of the auxiliary. She

Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was born in Noble County on Oct. 15, 1921, the son of

Jan. 14, 1965. He was a farmer and truck driver and moved to Wolcottville 13
years ago from Albion. He was a member of the Wolcottville VFW and Albion

Knafel Paul R, 88, a resident of rural Churubusco in Allen County, died July 27 in the emergency room at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.
He was born on Oct. 29, 1910 in Noble Twp, a son of Gustav and May Rowland
Knafel, and lived there until moving to Albion as a youth. On April 24, 1930 he
was married to DeElda Gaff in South Bend. They moved to the Churubusco area in
1946 and have lived at their present Eel River Twp home since 1967. A former
employee of General Electric in Fort Wayne, he later drove a milk route for
County Line Cheese 11 years. He retired in 1980 as a service and repairman for
Petrolane in LaOtto after 22 years. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran
Church, Lake Twp, Columbia City Eagles Lodge Aerie 1906 and Guys and Gals Square
Dance Club. Surviving are his wife; 4 daughters, Betty and her husband William
Smith, Wanda and her husband Richard Maroney of Wolcottville, Sandra Wise and

Ligonier. He was born in Noble County Feb. 11, 1919 to Cecil and Vicie
(Howell) Knapp. On Dec. 29, 1945 he married Cecelia Stager in
Smithsfield, Pa. He was a machinist at Fruehauf Trailer Co., Fort Wayne,
for 38 years, retiring in 1984. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II
and was a member of Ligonier Church of the Nazarene. Surviving are his

Fort Wayne. He drove a school bus in Noble County for 16 years, operated
his own farm, and worked at Dana Weatherhead Co. in Columbia City for 19 1/2
years before retiring in 1986. He was a member of Ormas Baptist
Church. He was born Oct. 14, 1917 to Cecil E. and Vicie Gladys (Howell)
Knapp in Ligonier. He graduated from Wolf Lake High School in 1983 and
married Ilene Elizabeth Bainbridge on Oct. 20, 1940 in Columbia City. She
died Jan. 18, 1994. Also preceding him in death was a brother, Charles, in

Knappe Ferdinand, one of this county’s oldest citizens, died at his home in Washington Twp Feb. 13, aged nearly 92 years. He was born
March 9, 1838 in Pike County, Pa., the third child of August and Mary Knappe.
In the spring of 1850 he came with his parents to Noble County, where he resided
ever since. In 1861 he was married to Eliza A. Long, and they had one child, Sarah Ann. For 22 years, during his young manhood, he taught in
the rural schools of the county and was twice elected justice on the Republican

Knappenbarger Albina, 86, died at the home of Ed Banta of heart trouble
on Feb. 2. She was the widow of Wilson Knappenbarger who at one time
conducted a livery and sale barn in Ligonier. Surviving are 2 daughters,
Mrs. Tenna Lanninger of Calif., and Mrs. Ruth Berry of Indianapolis. She
was the mother of the famous jockey, Bert Knappenbarger, who rode racing horses

residence. He was born in New York on May 13, 1913 to Charles A. and Beulah (Swormstead)
Knarr. On Oct. 25, 1937 he married Dorothy Kurtz, who died Nov. 18, 1986. He was
a retired electrical engineer and had worked for Magnavox 20 years. He was a
member of Toastmasters International, Moose Lodge and YMCA, all of Fort Wayne.

was born in Punxsutawney, Pa. Sept. 28, 1913, the daughter of Joseph and

Herrmann of Albion; three sons, Charles J. Knarr of Aberdeen S. D., David L

at his home on N. Main St. He was a native of Avilla and the son of the late
George and Ida Stewart Knauer. He married Theresa Ueber. He
had been in the grocery business in Avilla for many years. He was formerly
county chairman of the Republican Party until his illness forced him to retire.
Survivors include the widow; a daughter, Patricia, at home; a son, Thomas of
Houston, Texas; two grandchildren; a brother, Walter, of Willard, Ohio; and an
aunt, Evie Stewart of Willard, Ohio. A sister, Vera preceded him in death.

evening at his home here following a sudden heart attack. He was born in 1859 in

Thomas, who lives in Maracabio, Venezuela; one sister, Rose Ramsten, a resident

Knauer Thomas G, 76, Austin Tex., died Wednesday in Austin. He was
born March 14, 1925 in Avilla, the son of Claude Melville and Theresa (Ueber)
Knauer. After graduating from Avilla High School in 1943 he served in the
771st field artillery in WW II. He attended Indiana University and
graduated from North Texas State University. He was in the oil business
and worked in Texas, Venezuela and Indonesia. Surviving are his wife,
Edith (Cripe) Knauer; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Curtis Davis of
Portland, Texas, and Susan and Eric Stengel of Nashville, Tenn.; 2 sons, Gregory
of Arcosanti, Ariz., and Kirk of Mill Valley, Calif.; and 7 grandchildren,
Edith, Dylan, Duncan, Alexandra, Benjamin, Patrick and August. Memorial

Knauer Walter H, 74, a former Avilla grocer and later a district
circulation manager for The Journal-Gazette until his retirement in 1947, died Monday in Souder Hospital, Auburn. He resided with a son, William,
Fort Wayne, was with the circulation department of The Journal Gazette nine
years and operated a grocery store here in Avilla 35 years. He was a member of
Lodge 460, F&AM at Avilla; Avilla Chapter No. 155, Order of Eastern Star; a
member of the Scottish Rite in Fort Wayne. He was born in Garrett. Beside the
son with whom he made his home, he is survived by another son, Roger C. of
Auburn, and five grandchildren. The body was taken to L. E. Berhalter and Sons

Knecht Emmy, 88, died Saturday in Kendallville Manor Healthcare
Center. She was born Feb. 24, 1908 in Brunnbuettel, Germany to Leopold and
Maria (Seifert) Ahl. On Aug. 20, 1932 in Germany she married Wilhelm J.
Knecht. He died Aug. 18, 1977. She was a volunteer at the Gene
Stratton-Porter State Memorial, Rome City, and a member of Trinity Church United
Methodist. Surviving are a brother, Paul F. Ahl of North Miami Beach,
Fla.; She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother. Funeral

Knecht Mary, born May 12, 1853, was the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth
Ackerman, pioneer residents of Noble County, and grew up on a farm 3 miles east
of Kendallville. On Feb. 15, 1872 she married Charles Knecht of Wayne County and
they lived, excepting a few years, in and around Kendallville. They had 3 sons and one daughter. One of the sons died in infancy, another at the age of
eleven; and 2 surviving are Clara, wife of Prof. C. L. Thompson, Fort Wayne, and
Calvin of Ligonier. She died Jan. 3, 1910, aged 56 years 7 months 22 days.

Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born Sept. 10, 1902 in Holstein, Germany, he was
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wendlyn Knecht. He married Emmy Ahs Aug. 20, 1932 in
Germany. He was a retired mechanic, having worked at Flint & Walling Mfg.
Co., and had lived in Kendallville 27 years, coming from Germany. He was a
member of the Trinity Church United Methodist. Surviving are his wife and one

Knepp Allen J, 68, died at his home in Rome City this morning from pneumonia. Five years ago he fell from a load of hay and broke his neck. He
had been a prominent farmer of this community many years and moved here from his

sisters, Mrs. Frank Bailey, Mrs. Effie Lung and Mrs. Charles Miller of
Wolcottville; and two brothers, Amon of near LaGrange, and Earl of

Village Nursing Home. She was born April 14, 1890 in Syracuse, the daughter of
John and Eleanor Bushong Younce. She married Earl Knepp Nov. 14, 1905. He died
in 1956. She was a retired Master Garment worker. Survivors include one
son, Harry of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Grace Caldwell, Ligonier; three

Knepper Bessie E, 77, of Syracuse, died Wednesday in Kenney Health Care Center, Ligonier. Born Sept. 6, 1909 in Noble
County, she was the daughter of Ira and Margaret (Arnold) Hamman. She married
Calvin Miller who died in 1943. Her second husband, George Stienbarger, died in
1965, and her third husband, Walter Knepper, died in 1977. She was a lifetime
area resident and retired employee of Essex Wire Co., Ligonier, and a member of
Zion Chapel Church, Syracuse. Surviving are a daughter, Arnelda Losee of
Syracuse, a son, Harold Miller of Ligonier; nine grandchildren and two

Knepper Charles, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Knepper of Wawaka, died
Tuesday at a hospital in Elyria, Ohio, of spinal meningitis. He had been
an employee of the Peoples Telephone Co. He suffered a fractured skull in an
automobile accident near Elkhart about a year ago. The body will be

Knepper E W, 70, a Ligonier physician, died last Friday. He was born in
Edenburg, Ohio June 3, 1833. He began the practice of his profession at Edon,
Ohio in 1864 and 2 years later located in Ligonier. He was married in Ohio in
1857, and 6 children were born to him and his wife, 4 of whom are dead. The
wife, son Edwin Jr. and daughter Mabel survive. He was a staunch Republican and
was elected a member of the legislature in 1896. ^ 5-6-1904

was born April 4, 1906 in Wawaka to Bert and Leona (Cummings) Cook. She
married Lewis Knepper in 1924 in Albion. Before moving to Ligonier in 1994
she had been employed by Gilmore Brothers Dept. Store in Kalamazoo, Mich.
She was a member of Wawaka United Methodist Church. Surviving are her
husband; a son, Glen of Mendon, Mich.; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren

Knepper Elizabeth, 92, pioneer resident of this community, died last
night at her home in Brimfield from senility. Twelve years ago she
fractured her hip in a fall and had been an invalid since that time. She had
been a resident of Noble County the greater part of her life. Since the death of
her husband she made her home with her son, Charles and daughter, Miss Mora.
Surviving besides the son and daughter at home is a son by a former marriage,

She was born Dec. 1, 1874 in Millersburg, Ohio and married Grant Knepper Sept.

Knepper Frank, 50, native and lifelong resident of Elkhart Twp, committed
suicide Monday by throwing himself in front of a NYC train at a
crossing ½ mile west of Wawaka. He had been despondent since his arrest several
weeks ago when a still was discovered on his farm and had made several recent
attempts at suicide. He had been out on bond since the federal raid had been
made on his property. His farm had been put under condemnation proceedings and
his trial docketed for Sept. Several times he had threatened to take his life.
On one occasion he cut his wrists, once he attempted to slash his throat, and
another time he tried to hang himself, the rope breaking. He is survived by the
widow; a daughter, Sarah; and a brother, John of Montana. Funeral

Knepper Herald R, 86, died Sunday in Goshen Hospital. He was born
April 19, 1910 in Noble County to Walter and Laura (Miller) Knepper. On
Dec. 23, 1934 in Kimmell he married Ruby Werker. She died in 1991. A
carpenter, he owned and operated Knepper Construction, retiring in 1977.
He was a 1929 graduate of Cromwell High School, a lifetime member of Sparta
United Church of Christ and a former Sparta Twp trustee. Surviving are a

1995. He was a foreman of equipment installation for ADT of Kalamazoo,
Mich., and a member of Wawaka United Methodist Church. Surviving are a

Knepper. A 1930 graduate of Cromwell High School and 1932 graduate of International
Business College, she had worked for Wirk Garment Co. in Ligonier.
She was a member of Sparta United Church of Christ and a volunteer for American
Cancer Society and American Red Cross. Surviving are her husband; 3

legal secretary in NYC for years. He formerly had resided at Mountain Home VA
Hospital in Tennessee. His only survivor is a sister, Alyce Klinger of

Knepper Velma Bell, 37, wife of Albert U. Knepper, committed suicide
Wednesday at the home of her half-sister, Mrs. J. H. Tschabold in
Elkhart, by inhaling gas from the kitchen stove. Relatives said she suffered a
nervous breakdown two months ago which caused a demented condition. She was born
Feb. 10, 1901 near Ligonier and was married to Mr. Knepper in 1925 and the
couple moved to Elkhart last summer. She is survived by her husband, three

He made his late home at R. 1, Cromwell. He was the son of William and Esther (Temperance)
Knepper and was born in Noble County on Oct. 23, 1888. He was a retired farmer
and carpenter. Surviving are his wife, Bessie; two daughters, Mrs. Doris Stahly,
Ligonier, and Mrs. Ralph Black, Pierceton; and one son, Harold, Cromwell; a
sister, Rosa K. Stoner, Cromwell; a stepson, Harold Miller, Ligonier; a

Kneubuhler Dale R, 47, of Kendallville, died Saturday in Parkview Hospital. Born in DeKalb County July 14, 1939, he was
the son of Reinhold and Alta (Musser) Kneubuhler. On May 14, 1964 in Columbia
City he married Mary Lou Warnick. He moved from Fort Wayne to Kendallville in
1964 where he was an equipment operator for L. H. Gunsaullus & Sons.
Surviving are his wife; his mother and stepfather, Alta and Cecil Gettys in
Waterloo; a daughter, Sandra M. Smith of Kendallville; four sons, William E.,
Richard L., and David A., all Kendallville, and Randall E. of Austin, Texas;
three sisters, Lora Shaw of Dayton, Ohio; JoAnn Hart and Phyllis Sattison of
Waterloo; a brother Lyle "Butch" of Auburn; and three grandchildren. A

born Aug. 28, 1909 in Buchanan, Mich. to John L. and Laura Pennell Knight. He
married Margaret Clouse May 11, 1936. He had lived in Merriam since 1964. He was
a member of Charter Oak Community Church and was retired from faming and Phelps

Knight Herbert, 70, a resident of Ligonier for a number of years and a
well-known druggist throughout northeastern Indiana for almost half a century,
died Tuesday at his home in Warsaw. Bert moved to Kendallville from Auburn
in 1902 and was employed as a pharmacist in the A.R. Otis drug store
there. In 1910 he went to Anderson and returned to Kendallville in
1920. In 1923 he and his son-in-law, F. C. Kauffman, took over the Central
Drug Store in Kendallville. In June 1931 he purchased the Williams Drug
Store here, which he operated several years before moving to Warsaw. In
early life he was an acrobat and appeared with some of the leading circuses of
the country. He was born in Rome, Mich. April 1872. Feb. 21, 1894 he
married Molly Dey of Quincy, Mich. She died Oct. 31, 1916. In Oct.
1917 he married Libbie Fryer of Kendallville. He was affiliated with the
Masonic and Elks lodges and was a member of the Presbyterian church.
Surviving are the widow, one daughter, Mrs. F. C. Kauffman of Kendallville, a
son, Marlin, and a sister, Mrs. Retta Phillips of Saginaw, Mich. Ligonier

Knight James, son of Daniel and Lucy Lowry Knight, was born at Chillicothe,
Ohio April 30, 1829 and died at Kendallville Dec. 24, aged 71 years 7 months and
24 days. He was married at Lancaster, Ohio Jan. 16, 1850 to Margaret H. Holtman
who died Dec. 29, 1855. He was married to S. A. Friend in 1856, who survives. He enlisted in May 1864 as a hundred-day man in the
139th Indiana volunteers and after serving his time re-enlisted in March 1865 for 3
years or during the war. He came to Kendallville in 1848 and lived here until
his decease. He was by trade a painter. He leaves his wife and 3 sisters, Mrs.

Knight Muriel, 77, was born Sept. 15, 1894 in Jefferson Twp to M. O. and
Mary (Campbell) DeCamp. Her husband, John L. Knight, whom she married in 1938,

died Tuesday in the Turtle Creek Nursing Home, Fort Wayne.

Knight Thora A, 79, of Chillicothe, died Dec. 18, 2011, in Chillicothe
from lung cancer. She was a former 20-year resident of northeast Indiana
and a 1951 graduate of Ligonier High School. She moved to Phoenix, Ariz.,
from Indiana and resided there 50 years before moving to Chillicothe three years
ago. She was a homemaker, radio DJ and TV personality. She was born June
25, 1932, in Fort Wayne to Ralph and Lillian Hawkins. She first married Richard
Stamets of Goshen and later married Robert Knight. Surviving are a

Knisely Claude M, 79, 408 Van Scoyoc St., died Monday in the
McCray Hospital. He was a native of Philadelphia, Ohio, where he was born on
Nov. 10, 1887, the son of James and Minnie Johnson Knisely. He was married May
9, 1914, in Hillsdale, Mich., to Floss Sowers, who survives. The couple moved to
Avilla 15 years ago from Fort Wayne, where he was employed by the Wayne Pump
Company 43 years before his retirement in 1955. He was a member of the Avilla

member of the United Methodist Church, Collins, and a 50-year member of

Kniss Sophia died Wednesday at the Provines home in Auburn. She was in her 82nd
year, having been born Sept. 13, 1851 in Ohio. The family lived for many years
on a farm near LaOtto. Her husband, Harvey, has been dead for thirty years.
Surviving are four children, Mrs. P. L. Ervin of Butler Twp, Samuel of Amber,
Okla., Mrs. Ira Young of LaOtto, and Mrs. Capitola ?eaton of Chickasha, Okla.

Knopp David Clifford, 51, of Albion, died July 3, 2008 in the emergency
room of Parkview Noble Hospital after suffering an apparent heart attack at his
home. He had been executive director of the Noble County Community
Foundation in Ligonier since 2000 and worked for the News-Sun as a journalist
from 1985 to 2000. He was born Feb. 4, 1957 to Clifford L. and Mary J.
Shoemaker Knopp. On July 15, 1990 in Fort Wayne he married Sarah Gagen.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Sage; a stepson, Michael McKinney of Fort
Wayne; his mother of Fort Wayne; 2 sisters and brothers-in-law, Lisa and Greg
Johnson of New Haven and Barbara and Kelly Grogan of Zittleton, Colo. His
father died in 1996. Cremation has taken place following his wishes.

a painter for many years and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Elks
Lodge and Fathers’ Auxiliary of VFW. He was preceded in death by a daughter,

preceded her in death. A lifetime resident of Kendallville, she was a member of
Immaculate Conception Church, Kendallville, where she had been a member of the

Hospital. She was born July 6, 1929 in Claflin, Kansas to Leo and Julia (Lucier) Greene. She married Charles E. Knott on September 3, 1949 in

Louisville, Ky.; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Ronda of Boulder, CO;
and Charles and Julie of New Braunfels, TX; 9 grandchildren and 6

Knox Coreen, 40, wife of Major Eddie C. Knox of North Webster and a
former Cromwell resident died in an auto accident a little over a mile north of
Cromwell on State Road 5. Mr. Knox was driving and apparently lost control of

1919, he married Irene Nowels. She died Dec. 23, 1978. He moved to Fort Wayne in
1978 and was a retired self-employed carpenter. Surviving are two daughters,
Mrs. Bernard (Alice) Deville of Anderson, S.C., and Mrs. Van (Evelyn) Baker of
Albion; two sons, Ralph M. of Jasper and Charles N. of Fort Wayne; a sister,
Kate Schreiber of Willington, Ohio; 22 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren;
and three great-great-grandchildren. Two sons, a great-grandchild and a brother

Knox Harry L, 63, of R. 4, Syracuse, died Thursday at
Goshen Hospital. The son of Harry and Dollie (Ruby) Knox, he was born Feb. 5,
1921 in Cromwell. On Oct. 21, 1977 in Cromwell he married Mary McFarren. A
lifetime area resident, he was a farmer and carpenter for Werker Brothers
Construction in Cromwell. The WW II Army veteran served in India in the Burma
CBI Theatre and was a charter member of the Cromwell American Legion Post 421.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Joe (Phyllis) Harris of Pierceton; a
son, Larry of Cromwell; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Gary (Carolyn) Doyle of Fort
Washington, Md.; a stepdaughter, Boyd McFarren Jr. of Cleveland; two sisters,
Ruby Bennett of Wolf Lake, and Ruth Taylor of Ligonier; four grandchildren.

Knox Irene M, 75, R. 1, Albion, died Saturday (d.
12-23-1978) in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born April 5, 1903 in Noble
County she was the daughter of Rolland and Adell (Cornelius) Nowels. She
married Harry C. Knox Nov. 22, 1919 in St. Joseph, Mich. She had lived in Fort
Wayne and had returned to Albion three years ago. She was a housewife, a Four
Star Mother and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Albion. Survivors
are two daughters, Mrs. Bernard (Alice) Deville, Houston, Tex., and Mrs. Van
(Evelyn) Baker, R. 1, Albion; three sons, Robert C. and Charles N., Fort Wayne,
and Ralph M., Chicago, Ill.; four sisters; three brothers; 22 grandchildren and
20 great-grandchildren. One son, two brothers and two sisters preceded her in
death. Funeral Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Albion.

Knox James J of this city, died at his home on East Main Street
Tuesday. He was a native of
Richland County, Ohio, where he was born Feb. 16, 1821, and died in Albion,
Indiana, April 21, 1901, aged 77 years, 2 months and 5 days.
He was the son of John and Mary Knox , who were the parents of fifteen
children all of whom lived to manhood and womanhood, the youngest being
seventeen years old when the family ties were sundered by death.
He remained with his parents until he was twenty-two years old.
He served as a soldier in the Mexican War thirteen months after which he
returned to Ohio where he remained until 1848 when he came to Noble County and
purchased 184 acres of timber land in Elkhart Township.
He then returned to Buckeyedom where he remained until 1849 when he
journeyed across the arid plains and deserts of western United State to the New
El Dorado, California, where he engaged in gold mining until 1852, in which
pursuit he was quite successful and laid the nucleus of the comfortable estate
which he reared. In July 1852 he returned to Ohio where he resided until 1853 when he again came to Hoosierdom
and built a steam sawmill in Allen Township which he operated for two years. He was then united in marriage to Miss Naomi A. Black,
September 5, 1854, daughter of Peter and Martha Black of Jefferson Twp.
The newly married couple in October 1855 settled on their farm in Elkhart
Twp where they continued to reside until about twenty years ago when they
removed to Ligonier where they lived until the death of Mrs. Knox.
Three years ago this fall, Mr. Knox and his surviving daughter, Miss
Gertrude, removed to this city and occupied the handsome residence which he had
built. He was the father of five
daughters, all deceased, except Miss Gertrude.
The obsequies were held at the last residence this afternoon.
He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
He leaves one daughter four sister and three brothers. Burial, Albion

Knox James L, 27, of Kendallville Mobile Home Park, died at his
residence. He was born in Kendallville April 18, 1959, the son of Ernest and
Mary (Mapes) Knox. On Oct. 27, 1978 in Wise, Va., he married Virginia Conley. He
had been employed by Quick Tanks 7 1/2 years. Surviving are his wife; his parents
in Kendallville; a daughter, Brandy Renae, and a son, Shanith James, both at
home; three sisters, Judy Witham, and Janel Knox, Kendallville, and Janet
Albion; five brothers, Ernest Jr., John, Jay and Joseph, all Kendallville, and
Jack of Okinawa, Japan. Services at Allen Chapel Church Wednesday.

Knox Joyce "Marlene", 73, of Kimmell, died Nov. 11, 2009 at
Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne. She was born Jan. 19, 1936 in Noble
County to Charles and Althea (Fausnaugh) Reeve. She married Ronald L. Knox
on Nov. 4, 1953 in Albion. She had worked at Superior Sample and at
Millenium Industries and was a member of Cromwell-Kimmell Lions Club and Stone's
Hill Community Church. Surviving are her husband; a son, Kary (Becky) Knox
of Avilla; a daughter, Sheree (Ramer) and Ron Fritz of Wolcottville; 2 brothers,
Verlin Reeve of Kimmell and Homer (Norma) Reeve of Ligonier; 8 grandchildren and
7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by siblings, Leland,

Knox Lillian, 29, died from a broken neck and other injuries when her car
skidded out of control on an S-curve in Ligonier along Ind. 5 and smashed into a
concrete dock at an industrial plant. The body was taken to the Ulrey-Sedgwick

Wayne. She was born Dec. 24, 1914 in Noble County to Charles and Mary Etta

Knox. He died Aug. 11, 1982. Surviving are a son, Lawrence E.
Magnuson of Payne, Ohio; 3 sisters, Mary Hatfield of Franklin, Ohio, Alice Schlemmer
of Ligonier and Helen Galloway of Kimmell; 5 grandchildren; 9
great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in

Knox Mary E,74, of Kendallville, died May 31, 2011, at her daughter Janet’s home near Avilla.
She was born in Kendallville on April 17, 1937, to Lawrence “Bob”
Hiram and Martha Anna (McCreary) Mapes. She
married Ernest Knox Sr. on October 30, 1954, in Angola, Indiana, and he died
June 25, 2007. She was nurse’s
aide at the old Lutheran Home in Kendallville.
Survivors include 5 sons, Ernest Knox Jr. of Kendallville, John Knox of
South Milford, Jack and Julie Knox of Mt. Olive, North Carolina, Jay and Tammie
Knox of Kendallville, and Joseph Knox of Auburn; 3 daughters, Judi and Ron
Witham of Lagrange, Janet and Joseph Kretler of Avilla and Janel and Brian
Childers of Avilla; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 5 sisters, Phyllis
Mapes, Nancy Knox and Doris Christlieb, all of Kendallville, Sally Mapes of Hudson, Susan and Dan Wierich of
Huntertown and Karen and Dick Bell of Churubusco; and 5 brothers, Robert and

Knox Mary Elizabeth, 64, died Aug. 6, 2006 at her home near Wawaka.
She had been employed for 13 years at Taylor made in Kendallville and was the
receptionist at her daughter's beauty salon, First Impressions, in
Kendallville. She was a member of Dorca Circle at Trinity Church United
Methodist. She was a 1958 graduate of Knott County Central High
School. She was born July 10,1 942 in Hindman, Ky., to Alton B.P. and
Nancy (Cornett) Everage. She married Arnold Ray Knox on July 8, 1961 in
Ottawa, Mich. He died July 25. Surviving are a son and
daughter-in-law, Timothy and Deborah of Wawaka; a daughter and son-in-law,
Tawnya and Carson Strouse of Wawaka; 2 sisters and brothers-in-law, Annagay and
Martin Ragland of Clarksville, Tenn., and Martha Louise and Roy Downing of
Fayetteville, N.C.; and 6 grandchildren, Travis Bailey, Travis, Danielle and
Taylar Knox, Skyler Strouse and Nathan Terry. She was also preceded in
death by a daughter, Tawana Goings, on Nov. 15, 2002; 4 brothers, John, George,

Knox Richard, 24, died of tularemia at his home in Cromwell last week. He
had been ill for three weeks after contracting the disease when he shot and

On July 7, 1946 in Goshen he married Margaret Amick. He moved from Diamond Lake
to Fort Wayne two years ago and was a retired employee of Olson Body in Sturgis,
Mich. He was a veteran of WW II and a member of the Methodist Church and

sons, Charles of Fairfield, Calif., and Lawrence Magnuson of Fort Wayne; a

Community Church. He was born June 8, 1936 in Noble County to Wayne and
Ruth (Thunander) Knox. He married Joyce Reeve on Nov. 4, 153 in

Knox Ruth L, 86, died February 18, 2007 at Avalon Village in
Ligonier. She spent her entire life in the West Noble community and had
been employed at Essex Wire in Ligonier and Riblets in Syracuse. During
the 1940's and 1950's she owned and operated the Country Store in Indian
Village. She was born June 28, 1920 in Kimmell to Wayne and Lena (Lecount)
Thunander. She married Wayne C. Knox and he died in 1954. Surviving
are a daughter and son-in-law, Vonda and Gary Barnes of Columbia City; 3 sons
and 2 daughters-in-law, Ronald and Marlene Knox of Kimmell, Jim and Cindy Knox
of Fort Wayne and Roger Knox of Bear Lake; a sister, Anna Patrick of Ligonier;
10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Bertie Price and Donna Seidner. Services Friday at

Knox Wayne C, 41, died Sunday at his Indian
Village home after suffering a heart attack a few hours earlier. He was a punch
press operator for the Penn Controls Co., Goshen. He was a native and lifelong
resident of Cromwell and a member of the Moose Lodge in Goshen. Surviving are
the widow, Ruth; two sons, Ronnie, Kimmell, and James at home; a daughter, Vonda
at home; his mother, Mrs. Dollie Lindsey of Cromwell; three brothers,
Eddie, El Paso, Texas, Tom of Cromwell, and Harry of R. 1, Pierceton; and two
sisters, Mrs. Ruby Bennett, near Wolf Lake, and Mrs. Ruth Taylor, Ligonier.

Knox Will T, 62, died at his home one and one-half miles north of Albion
last Wednesday from Bright’s disease and ulcers of the
stomach. He was born Nov. 6, 1873, the son of Wilson and Emily Knox of
Brimfield. He graduated from Indiana University and afterward taught in Albion
schools for several years. He later served 12 years as surveyor of Noble County.
He was united in marriage to Clara Comstock and since that time had resided at
the home north of Albion. He was severely injured last fall when he was kicked
in the face by a horse while working on the farm and never fully recovered from
the shock. He is survived by the widow; two sons, Harry of Auburn, and Richard
of Albion; and one daughter, Mrs. Vaughn Schreiber of Elgin, Ill.; and eleven
grandchildren. Funeral from the home Saturday. Burial,

Knox William died at his home in York Twp on Aug. 6, 1881. He was born in
Washington County, Penn. Sept. 25, 1815; came to Richland County, Ohio, with his
parents in 1817. In 1838 he married Isabel S. Beattie. She died in 1854, leaving
him with a family of 8 children. In 1876 he came to Noble County and
married Rebecca Spangle April 28, 1881, whom he leaves with 3 children.

Knox William L, 69, a prominent Portland businessman and a former
resident of Avilla, died at the Jay County Hospital March 6. He was born in
Boston, O., and at the age of 19 became a furniture salesman. In 1932 he located
in Portland, where he continued in the furniture retailing business. He was a
member of the Scottish Rite in Fort Wayne and the Jay F. & A. M. Lodge No.
87 and was active in all civic affairs. He is survived by the wife, Mae; four
daughters, Esther, Edith, Ruth and Helen, all of Rochester; a brother, Frank of
Barnesville, O.; and a sister, Mrs. Maude Clift of Boston, O. Services
