Hay Malinda A, 64, a resident of the
Lutheran Home in Kendallville, died there today. Born in Fort Wayne
May 1, 1919, she was the daughter of Fred and Katherine (Elett) Rodenbeck. Her
husband, Clarence, one brother and two sisters preceded her in death. Surviving
is one sister, Lorinda Rodenbeck of Indianapolis. Services at Hite

Hayden Clyde, 83, R. 2, Kendallville, died Wednesday in the
Sacred Heart Home, Avilla. Born Nov. 11, 1894, in Missouri, he was the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Alva Hayden. He founded Hayden Welding Co. in 1921. The company is
now managed by his son. Survivors include two sons, Russell, R. 2, Kendallville,
Harold, Washington; one sister, Mrs. Arthur (Betty) Ordas, R. 1, Huntertown; two
daughters; three brothers; eleven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one

Hayden Lester "Speedy", 67, Ligonier,
died Sunday in Goshen Hospital. He was born Dec. 4, 1906 in Topeka
to Lucian and Goldie (Baer) Hayden and married June 17, 1928 Vivian Bussie. A
retired automobile body repairman, he had lived the past 46 years in Ligonier,
and prior to that in Topeka. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Aurel)
Sittloh, Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Tom (Anne) Ringer, Ligonier; one son, William,
South Bend; a stepson, Ronald Bussie, Walkerton; two sisters, Mrs. Walter Haid,
Elkhart, and Mrs. Durwood Fant, Miami, Fla.; and one brother, John, Warsaw.

Hayden Mary Frances, 77, died March 7, 2002 at Parkview Noble
Hospital. She graduated in 1943 from Rome City High School and in 1948
earned a degree from the Ball State University School of Nursing. She
worked for several years as a nurse at McCray Hospital and for a short time in
Calif. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Kendallville
and of Kendallville's local Wool Spinners and Weavers Guild. She was born
March 8, 1924 in Kendallville to Cleo and Ruth Groh. She married Russell
Lowell Hayden on Feb. 7, 1947 at the Mitchell St. Methodist Church in
Kendallville. Surviving are her husband; a son and daughter-in-law, Kurt
and Debbie Hayden of Kendallville; and 4 grandchildren, Nicholas, Zachary,
Summer and Haley Hayden. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Lawrence

Hayden Russell L, 83, of Kendallville, died May 28, 2010 at his
home. He was born in Kendallville on Dec. 23, 1926 to Clyde and Ruth
(Sower) Hayden. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and married Mary
Frances Groh on Feb. 7, 1947 in Kendallville. She died March 7,
2002. His father started Hayden Welding in Kendallville in 1929. He
puchased the business in 1946. He took on the Honda name in 1965 and
changed the name of the business to Hayden Honda. His son, Kurt, owns and
operates it today. He was a member of the American Legion Post 86.
Survivors include a son, Kurt and Debbie Hayden of Kendallville; 2 grandsons,
Nick and Natasha Hayden and Zack Hayden; 2 granddaughters, Summer and Tyler
Moser and Haley Hayden; and great-grandchildren, Lex and Lilly Moser and Fyodor
Hayden. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Harold Hayden; and

Hayden Vivian P, 68, Ligonier, died today at
Strawberry Village Nursing Home. Born March 30, 1909 in Chicago, she was the
daughter of James and Aurel (Cunningham) Bussie. On June 17, 1928 she married
Lester "Speedy" Hayden in Elkhart. He died Dec. 23, 1973. She was a
50-year resident of Ligonier and had previously lived in Topeka and Chicago.
Surviving are one son, William, South Bend; two daughters, Mrs. Aurel Sittloh,
Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Tim (Anne) Ringler, Ligonier; and 4 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Howard, Plymouth,

Hayes Adolph R, 68, a CPA attorney, died Monday in the VA
Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was a native of Noble County and in June 1921 married
Ruth Smith. They lived in Decorah, Iowa until about two years ago when they

Hayes Dale, 93, died Saturday at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness,
Fla. He was born in Albion to Louie and Metta Hayes on Oct. 17,
1901. He married Betty Wiegner. He owned and operated Hayes Grocery
Store in Ligonier until moving to Fla. 20 years ago. He managed the
Inverness A&P Grocery and was a member of the Rotary Club with 25 years of
perfect attendance. He was a member of St. Margaret's Episcopal
Church. Surviving are his wife; a son, Robert of Lakeland, Fla.; a
daughter, Janice Hood of Fort Wayne; 7 grandchildren and 10

Hayes Gerald C, 85, died Thursday at Elkhart
General Hospital. He was employed at Miller-Jones Shoe Store in Ligonier
for 39 years and served as Perry Twp Trustee for 10 years. A WW II U.S.
Army veteran, he was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the VFW, and
the West Noble American Legion Post. He was born April 21, 1914 in
Dunkirk, Ohio, to Dale and Leon (Gardner) Hays. He married Catheleen
A. Stroman in Albion in 1939. He is survived by his wife and a

Hayes Grant, 74, died Aug. 10 at his home in Omaha Neb. A
former employee of the Burgess-Nash store, he had been retired for the past 20
years. A Spanish-American War veteran, he was also a former grand master of the
Odd Fellows Lodge. Survivors include the widow, Kristine; daughter, Mrs. Walter
J. Davis; sons, Arthur D., Omaha, Lester W., Bethany, Mo., Fred A., and Joseph

Hayes Harry H "Jack", 54, Ligonier, died Wednesday in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born Aug. 13, 1925 in
Waveland, he was the son of Charles and Nell (Robards) Hayes. On July 31, 1943
in Waveland he married Clara "Pat" E. McDonald. He had lived in
Ligonier since 1970, coming from Lafayette. He was a retired truck driver, most
recently driving for Shoup Buses, Inc. of Middlebury, and was a Ligonier city
policeman until he was forced to retire because of ill health. He was an Army
veteran of WW II and a member of Ligonier VFW Post 3931. Survivors include his
wife; a daughter, Mrs. David (Dina) Hochstetler of Ligonier; two sons, H. David
of Elkhart; and Robert D. of Lafayette; a sister, Mrs. Roger (Martha Ann) Miller
of Columbus, Ohio; a brother, Vern of Waveland; and four grandchildren. Three

Carlisle and moved to Inverness 10 years ago from Fort Wayne. She and her

Hayes John was born Feb. 12, 1834 in Fremont, County Cork, Ireland, and
died April 30, aged 71 years 2 months and 18 days. He came to America in 1850
and worked as a farm laborer in York state until 1857 when he went to Bronson,
Mich. Here he married Ellen Kehoe, and they had 3 children, Ella, Mary and
Emma. He married the second time Hannah Cunningham of Coldwater, Mich. They had 4 sons and 2 daughters, all of whom, except one son, M. T.
of San Francisco, were present at the funeral. The daughters, Mrs. C. A.
Hollibaugh and Miss Josephine live at Elkhart. J. B. is with the Gen. Supt. of
the B&O RR., C. T. is air brake inspector at Elkhart for the Lake Shore
Railway, and H. M. travels out of Indianapolis for H. C. Huston & Co. Mr.
Hayes came to Kendallville in 1867 and here for 21 years he was identified with

Memorial Nursing Home, Wolf Lake. She was born Sept. 13, 1892 in Dunkirk, Ohio

Ligonier, where she had been an employee of Wirk Garment Co. She was a member of
the American Legion Auxiliary and Women’s Relief Corps in Ligonier. Surviving

he had been charged with molesting three teenage boys at the Cole Center YMCA in
Kendallville, he took his own life. He was born Dec. 12, 1960 in Arlington
Heights, Ill. to Joseph B. and Virginia (Lehman) Hayes. He was physical
activities director at the Cole Center Family YMCA in Kendallville. Surviving

Hayes Robert L, 79, died Thursday in Miller's Merry Manor in Columbia
City. He was born Sept. 4, 1914 in Rockville to Lewis and Della (Torr)
Hayes. On April 27, 1937 in Marshall, Ill. he married Helen L.
Albright. She died in 1992. He graduated from Brazil High School and
Indiana State Teacher's College. He was a West Noble High School teacher
of accounting, typing, bookkeeping and shorthand. He was a member of
Ligonier United Methodist Church. Surviving are 2 sons, Robert of Columbia
City, and John "Toby" of Ligonier; 4 grandchildren and 4

Hayes Ruth, 78, of Greencastle, formerly of Chicago, died Oct. 11
at Greencastle. Born May 25, 1899 in Noble County, she was the daughter of Ellis
and Anna (Earl) Smith. She was a member of the Methodist Church and OES.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Keith (Joanne) Lyon, Greencastle, Mrs.
Jerome (Patricia) Garnes, Chicago, Ill.; three grandchildren, Robert Hayes Lyon,

Hayes Susan was the daughter of John and Julia Miller and was born in
Coshocton County, Ohio, Nov. 29, 1828 and died at her old home just east of
Albion Aug. 3, 1921, being 92 years, 8 months and 4 days of age. More than 70
years ago she came to Indiana and has lived on the same farm for 64 years. In
Ohio in 1846 she was married to William Hayes. They had 8 children, 3 of
whom, Marshal, Charlie, and Phoebe, with the husband, preceded her in
death. The surviving children are Cyrus, John, Stanley, Grant and Mrs. Julia
Foote. Eighteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren also survive.
"Mother" Hayes as she was commonly called, was one of the old pioneers
of Noble County. She helped to clear up the forests and make the country what it
is today. During the Civil War she was left alone and kept the farm going
herself, working day after day in the fields, keeping her children with her.

Haynes Addie, about 60, died July 30, 1944 at McCray Hospital
where she was being treated for asthma, from which she died. She had recently
purchased the Riley St. Grocery and had been managing and operating it with the
assistance of her daughter, Veneda. She had been a resident of Kendallville for
30 years. She is survived by her daughter Veneda and two sons, Gerald and
Everett, all of Kendallville; and one daughter, Mrs. Keith Seymoure of Albion.

Haynes Barbara, 54, died Friday at Willow Ridge Living Center, Fort
Wayne. She was born Aug. 9, 1930 in Garrett to J. Kenneth and Arminnie (Young)
Krider. She married Raymond Haynes June 19, 1955 in Garrett. She was the society
editor at the Garrett Clipper from Sept. 7, 1973 until Nov. 19, 1982. She was
named Garrett’s Citizen of the Year in May 1977 and a member of Garrett United

Hospital. She and her husband owned BJ's small Engine Repair in Avilla and

a 1964 graduate of Avilla High School and a member of Avilla American Legion
Post 240 Auxiliary. She was born April 11, 1946 in Fort Wayne to Herman
and Mildred (Isenbarger) Krock. On April 3, 1970 in Kendallville she
married William J. Haynes. Surviving are her husband, 2 sons and
daughters-in-law, Tyler and Kim Haynes of Avilla and Troy and Michelle Haynes of
Kendallville; 4 grandchildren, Hilary Didier, Nathan Haynes, Abby and Collin
Haynes; 3 brothers and 2 sisters-in-law, James Krock, William and Marylin Krock

today from a heart attack at his residence. He was born in Kendallville Nov. 19,
1906, the son of Edward and Addie (Miller) Haynes. On April 21, 1944 in
LaGrange, he married Mary Ann Bertsch. A lifetime resident, he was retired from
McCray Refrigerator and Noble County Weights and Measures Dept. He was a member
of St. John Lutheran Church and Elks Lodge. Surviving are his wife; a daughter,
Rebecca "Becky" Schermerhorn of R. 1, Wawaka; a son, Michael of

Haynes Gerald E, 90, died Sunday in Shepherd of the Hill nursing home,
Kendallville. He was born Sept. 1, 1903 in St. John to Edward and Addie
(Miller) Haynes. On Feb. 17, 1934 in Garrett he married Helen John.
He was Kendallville fire chief for more than 30 years and was employed as
superintendent at McCray Refrigerator Co. He was a member of St. John
Lutheran Church, Kendallville Kiwanis, Kendallville Conservation Club and member
of Lake View Cemetery board of directors. Surviving are his wife and a
sister, Geraldine Hurni of Auburn. He was preceded in death by a brother,

Haynes. He died May 27, 1983. For 40 years she owned and operated
Helen's Beauty Shop in Kendallville and for the past 15 years she worked at
Betty's Salon of Beauty in Kendallville. She was a member of Wayne Center

sisters, Mabel Carunchia and Thelma Sobieski of Kendallville; 2 grandchildren,

daughter, Mrs. Orel Miller, R. 3, Auburn, Monday. She was born
July 3, 1886 near Avilla. She married the late William E. Haynes in Kendallville
Dec. 25, 1902. He died in 1968. Also surviving are two sons, Arthur and Carl,
both of Auburn; a sister, Mrs. Emma Sawyer of Kendallville; five grandchildren;

Haynes Joy E, 50, died Thursday in her rural Garrett home. She
was a member of the Cedar Lake Church of the Brethren in rural Auburn and the

Willard and Flossie (Knowlton) Stump. She married James M. Haynes on Aug. 11,
1963 in Walkerton. Surviving are her husband; her father in Garrett; two sons,

of an apparent heart attack. He was born November 11, 1914 in McKenzie, Tenn.,
the son of Joseph and Florence (Futrell) Haynes. He married Helen Veit July 18,
1941 in Defiance, Ohio. A resident of the area for 43 years, he was a retired
auto mechanic and past operator of the Phillips 66 service station where he
worked 14 years. Surviving are his wife; one son, William "Bill" of
Avilla, one sister; Mrs. Roy (Bessie) Snow, Kendallville; three brothers, David
N., Andrew and James, all Bruceton, Tenn.; and two grandsons, Tyler and Troy.

Sunday in McCray Hospital. Born in Kendallville May 18, 1916, she was the
daughter of Phillip and Bertha (Hart) Bertsch. On April 21, 1944 in LaGrange,
she married Everett M. Haynes, who died Dec. 23, 1987. A lifetime Kendallville
resident, she retired from data processing at Flint & Walling Mfg. July 17,
1981. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Lutheran Home Auxiliary and
Women of St. John. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Becky) Schermerhorn of
R. 1, Wawaka; a son, Michael of Muncie; two sisters, June Rodenbeck and Phyllis
Hicks, and a brother, Robert, all of Kendallville; and six grandchildren.

Hays Gwendolyn K, 52, Avilla, died August 17, 2002 at Shepherd of the
Hill nursing home, Kendallville. She was born August 5, 1950 in Mangum,
Okla., to Preston and Betty (Ford) Thacker. She married Earl Hays May 24,
1968 in Altus. Surviving are her husband; her parents in Altus, Okla.; a
son, Heath of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Heather of Avilla; a granddaughter,
Madison Biddle; 2 brothers, Randy Thacker of Laredo, Texas, and Leander Thacker
of Altus; and one sister, Sherri Fancher of Altus. She was a bus driver
for East Noble School Corp. on the Avilla route for 21 years. She was a
member of the Avilla Fire Dept. Auxiliary. She lived in the community for

Hays Harriet, 87, died Wednesday at the Friendship Village
Retirement Center in Columbus, Ohio. She was born April 7, 1900 in
Ligonier, the daughter of Sam and Bessie Hays. She graduated from Ligonier High
School, attended Otterbein College and did graduate work at Ohio State
University. She lived in Ohio most of her adult life. She retired as director of
Food Service for city of Dayton, Ohio, schools. She is survived by two cousins,

Hays Ida, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Teal, pioneer residents of
Noble County, was born in Ligonier Dec. 20, 1862 and died at the family home in
Kimmell Feb. 8, 1925. She was a family of four children, of whom one sister and
one brother, with the parents, have preceded her in death. She attended the
Ligonier schools; and on Oct. 20, 1885 was married to Robert Hays. They had three children: Mrs. J. Herbert Cockley of Albion, Adolph of Chicago,
and Athalie of Kimmell. Surviving are the husband and three children; two
grandchildren; and one brother, Walter Teal of Indianapolis. She belonged to the
Sunday School of Kimmell Methodist Church. Funeral at the Kimmell

Hays Jacob H, of Sparta Twp, died at his home March 1, 1882, at the age
of nearly 70 years. He was born at Boonsboro, Md. July 18, 1812 where his early
life was spent. When still a young man he left the place of his birth, crossed
the mountains, and settled in Green County, Ohio. In Nov. 1834 he was married to
Martha Woodward who is still living, by whom he had six children, 3 of whom are
now living, the others having died before reaching manhood. In 1851 he settled
in Noble County where he has since lived upon the farm where he died.

Hays John W was born in Ohio Oct. 18, 1841. He attended he common and
high schools of his native state and was engaged in teaching at the outbreak of
the Civil War. In 1862 he enlisted in Company A, 110 Regiment, Ohio Infantry,
and served with distinction to the close of the war, being mustered out with the
rank of first sergeant. His company saw service in many of the hardest struggles
of that great conflict, and part of the time he was in command of his company,
notably in the campaign at and about Richmond. After the war he resumed teaching
and while so engaged he married Laura E. Munger on June 23, 1872. They had five
children, two dying in infancy. Surviving are the wife;
two daughters, Edna and Olive; one son, Dr. Woodward; and two grandchildren. He
attended the Miami Medical College of Cincinnati and was graduated in 1872,
entering the practice of medicine in Albion, where he has served our people for
fifty years. Recognizing his skill and diligence in surgery, the B&O
Railroad Co. appointed him surgeon when the road was built through Noble County.
This position of trust and responsibility he held down through the years at one
time being president of the B&O Surgeon’s Association. For many years he
served as secretary of the Noble County Board of Health and the Albion Town
Board of Health. He was a Macabee, a Knight of Pythias, and a member of the
Grand Army of the Republic. An ardent Republican, he has served his party as county chairman. With his own hands he fashioned
a goodly portion of the furniture in his home he and his wife established, and
he built the first buggy he ever owned. He brought to Albion the first
thermometer and the first hypodermic syringe. He died Jun 17,

Hays John Wesley, 69, died Wednesday in McCray Hospital. He was
born Jan. 9, 1927 in Floyd County, Ky. to Luegie and Norcie (Pratt) Hays.
On Feb. 2, 1952 in Albion he married Maxine Chaffins. She died Feb. 24,
1992. He retired in 1989 as a core maker at Kendallville Foundry. He
was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II. Surviving are a daughter, Connie Rush of
Sturgis, Mich.; 2 sons, Lanny of Wolcottville and Jeffrey of Sturgis; 2
brothers, Lyman of Evansville, Tenn., and Frank of Dayton, Ohio; and 7
grandchildren, Jeremy, Jamie, Amy, Amber and Alyse Hays, John and Holly
Rush. He was preceded in death by a son, Johnny; a grandson, Ryan Hays; 3
brothers, Ray, Edsell and James. Funeral Saturday in Community Baptist

Hays Laura L (Munger) was born near Dayton, Ohio, Dec. 27, 1848. She
died at her home in Albion July 13, 1929. As a young woman
she attended Cooper Seminary for Girls, and after preparing herself, entered the
teaching profession. While serving in this capacity she became acquainted with
J. W. Hays, who at the time was also a teacher and to whom she was united in
marriage June 23, 1870. Soon afterwards her husband entered upon the study of
medicine and after the completion of his medical studies they moved to Albion
where her husband practiced his profession and where they resided the remainder
of their lives. She was the mother of five children, two of whom died in
infancy. The three surviving are Mrs. Edna Hays Koposynski of Boston, Mass.;
Miss Olive of Albion; and Dr. Woodward of Albion. + 7-?-1929
Hays Martha died Aug. 1, 1885 at her residence in Sparta Twp, of cancer of the tongue, aged 72 years and 24 days. She was born in
Green County, Ohio, July 8, 1813 and was married to Jacob H. Hays in 1834. In
1865 they immigrated to Noble County settling upon the farm in Sparta Twp
where she died. Funeral was at Sparta Church on Aug. 2, 1885. She was the mother

Hays Maxine, 60, died Feb. 24, 1992 in the emergency room of McCray
Hospital. She was born in Knott County, Ky., on April 24, 1931, the

she married John Wesley Hays. She was a member of Community Baptist Church

Hays Olive, 60, of Albion who spent practically her entire life in
Noble County, died at Lakeside Hospital, Kendallville last Thursday following an operation for ulcers of the stomach. She was
born in Noble County on July 23, 1876, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. John Hays
of Albion. She received her elementary schooling here, and barring about two
years at Boston, Mass., she spent her entire life in Noble County. One lone
sister, Mrs. Edna Kapzynski of Boston, Mass., survives. Funeral Sunday at

Hays Reba, 82, Avilla, died September 5, 2005 in Provena Sacred Heart
Home. She was born in Garrett, Ky. to Simon and Alice (Moore) Hunter on
May 19, 1923. On October 12, 1943 she married Edd Hays in Hindman,
Ky. Survivors include 3 daughters and spouses, Elsie and Dave Kugler,
Avilla, Shirley and Carl Myers, Crystal River, Fla., Sue Lane of Fremont; 3

Hays Robert, 89, for several years a resident of Kimmell, and
manager of the Stiefel Grain Elevator, died at the Noble County Home last
Tuesday. Death was due to pneumonia and infirmities of old age. He is survived
by a son, Adolph of Chicago, and two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Cockley of Ligonier,
and Mrs. Athalie Marquart; a brother, Will of Kendallville; and three

Hays Woodward, 49, was found dead in his home April
20, 1930, by his sister, Olive. The coroner's verdict was that he had met an
accidental death from an overdose of medicine. Miss Hays told the coroner that
when she left the home Saturday night the doctor was lying on
a davenport fully dressed. When she returned next morning he still lay as she
had last seen him and had been dead several hours. He was born in Albion, July
29, 1880, a son of Dr. John W. Hays and wife, and had spent his life here. While
in high school he worked in the drug store of M. C. Beck during his spare time.
He graduated from Rush Medical College in Chicago in 1906 and served two terms
of internship in St. Joseph’s Hospital of Chicago, doing post-graduate work
under the eminent Dr. Senn. After his father’s retirement he served as surgeon
for the B&O Railroad and was appointed to serve on the medical examining
board during the world war. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Albion
Methodist Episcopal Church. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Leon Kopczynski,
Boston, Mass., and Miss Olive at home; two children, John and Catherine Hays of
Ann Arbor, Mich. Funeral at the home Wednesday. Burial, Albion

Haywood Anna R, 87, died January 6 at Sacred Heart Home. She was born
August 14, 1895 in Allen County, the daughter of Lewis and Mary Jackson. She
married Leroy E. Haywood in Auburn May 1, 1915. He died in 1962. Surviving are a

Haywood Isaac was born in Rebyme, Dorsetshire, England, July 4, 1791;
married Ann Shepherd of Kingsbury, England at the age of 26; removed to
America in 1832; lived 3 years in Penn., 14 years in Ohio, when he settled in
Indiana in 1849 and remained on his farm in LaGrange County until he died at the
age of 89 years 7 months and 23 days. He leaves 3 sons
and 2 daughters. He died at his residence in Milford Twp, LaGrange Co., Feb. 27.

Hazelton Cecil C, 69, of Kendallville, died February 11, 2010, at
Parkview Noble Hospital. He as born in Kendallville on March 15,
1940, to Richard Hugh and Florence (Knott) Hazelton. He graduated from
Kendallville High School in 1960 and married Margaret Irene High on June 24,
1962, at South Milford. Margaret died September 13, 2009. He was the
past owner of Kendallville Sanitation from 1969-1980. He also owned
Hazelton’s Handy Work and Mowing Service since 1980 and was currently employed
at Kautex Textron in Avilla since April 1996. He was a member of the South
Milford United Methodist Church. Survivors include his sons, Phil and
Michele Hazelton of Kendallville, Paul Hazelton of Fort Wayne; grandson, Andrew

Hazelton Glenn, 62, died Oct. 11, 2000 at his Davenport, Fla. home.
He was born Feb. 26, 1938 in Kendallville to Richard and Florence (Nott)
Hazelton. In 1958 in Garrett he married Nancy Derick. He and his
wife had owned Glenn and Nancy's Breakfast House in Kendallville for several
years. He had been a baker for the Walt Disney Wilderness Lodge for 15
years. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville and the
Kendallville Eagles Lodge. A 1956 graduate of Kendallville High School, he
was a member of the Army National Guard. Surviving are his wife; 2

after 25 years with Kraft Foods. He was a member of Wisterman Methodist

lived since 1928. He was born April 8, 1911 in Continental, Ohio, the son of
William and Hulda (Kreischer) Hazelton. He married Ruth Krick July 1, 1933 in
Auburn. A retired maintenance man for Zollner Corp. for 31 years in Fort Wayne,
he was also a farmer. Surviving are his wife; a son, Alfred of Fort Wayne; two

She was born November 24, 1939, in Avilla to Falconer
“Bus” and Hilda Bergstrom. She lived in California for 25 years before
returning to Indiana where she worked and retired from Electric Motors in
Garrett. She married Myles O. Healy on June 3, 1961, in Garrett. He died
August 30, 2003. Surviving is a son, Patrick Healy of Oregon; a sister and
brother-in-law, Vickie and Henry Zecca of Waterloo; six grandchildren; eight
step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild. She was also preceded in death
by two daughters, Valerie Brown and Marsha Healy; and a brother, Rick

May 24, 1956 in Kendallville to Donald Lee and Betty "Carolyn" (Ihrie)

was employed by Bohn Aluminum in Butler 4 years as a plant buyer and had worked
for Tokheim in Albion for 13 years. She attended First Presbyterian Church

Van Wert, Ohio, she married Fred J. Heaston. She was a member of Wolf Lake

Heathers Jacob U, 71, died Saturday at his residence from a heart attack.
He was born in Alma, Neb., June 23, 1912, the son of George W. and Anna M. (Runck)
Heathers. He married Edna M. Maaske June 1, 1938 in Alma. They moved from
Edison, Neb. to South Milford 25 years ago and for many years operated a service
station there with his brother. For the last 15 years he had been clerk at
Burtzner and Wilhelm Sand & Gravel Co. near LaOtto. Surviving are his wife;
a daughter, Mrs. Robert E. (Linnea) DePew, R. 2, Kendallville; two brothers,
Virgil V., South Milford, and Paul W., Alma, Neb.; and four grandchildren, Lee
Ann, Robin, Lori and Renee DePew, all R. 2, Kendallville. He was preceded in

Heathers Virgil Vesper, 84, formerly of South Milford, died Saturday in
Sacred Heart Home. He was born in Everson, Wash., Sept. 11, 1903, the son of
George W. and Anna (Runck) Heathers. He had moved to South Milford area from
Edison Neb. Oct. 11, 1958, where he and his brother owned Heathers Brothers
Shell Station for 10 years. He was a veteran of WW II. Surviving are a brother,

Heche Donald Joe, 45, died in a hospital in New York City March 5. A
memorial service was held on Sunday at the Lambs Church in New York, with
graveside services on Wednesday at Six Mile Cemetery near Bluffton. Survivors
are the wife, Nancy Prickett Heche; one son, Nathan B.; three daughters, Mrs.
Judson T. Bergman, Abigail Maria and Anne Celeste; one grandson, Elliott

Heche Nathan Bradlee, 18, died June 4 when the car he was driving left
the road and struck a tree. He was alone in the car and apparently fell asleep
at the wheel. He was born in Cleveland and lived in Ocean City the past four
years. After graduation he planned to attend Wheaton College in Illinois.
Survivors include his mother, Nancy; his grandmother, New Era Publisher Susan
Prickett, three sisters, Susan Bergman, Chicago, and Abigail and Anne, Ocean
City; grandmother, Mrs. Joe Heche, Craigville, Ind. Memorial services was held

Hecht Harold, 96, died Oct. 7, 2007 at Lutheran Villa Nursing Home in
Mulberry. He had been a carpenter and was employed in the construction
industry all of his life. He graduated in 1929 as the valedictorian at
Salem Center High School in Steuben County. He was a U.S. Army WW II
veteran, a member of the Army 745th Tank Battalion that landed at Omaha Beach
and worked its way through the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of
Zion Lutheran Church near Corunna. He was born near Helmer on June 30,
1911 to Edwin and Kathrine (Glasgow) Hecht. He married Lucille Hilda
Hasselman on March 17, 1934 at the Zion Lutheran Church parsonage. She
died July 23, 2003. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Lynn and
Ann Hecht of Bruceville, Ind.; 5 grandchildren, Dr. Aaron Hecht, Dr. Kimberly
and Jeff McDonough, Kristine and Gerald Ripke, Kevin and Julie Ply and Andrew
Hecht; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was also

Healthcare. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in
Kendallville. She was born Nov. 24, 1915 in rural Kendallville to Henry
and Helena (Pankop) Hasselman. She married Harold Hecht on March 17, 1934
at the Zion Lutheran parsonage in Corunna. Surviving are her husband; a
son and daughter-in-law, Lynn and Ann of Vincennes; 3 grandsons, Aaron and
Andrew Hecht and Kevin Ply; 2 granddaughters, Kimberly McDonough and Kristine
Ripke; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter

Heckman Charley, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Heckman of Swan Center, was
born at Avilla, May 29, 1881 and died March 28, 1925, age 43
years, 9 months and 28 days, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne, after a
short illness from the effects of the flu. He contracted a cold about a week ago
and gradually grew worse. He consulted a doctor but did not get relief and
finally was removed to the hospital. He is survived by his parents; four
brothers, Tony, John Jr., William and Gust; and one sister, Mrs. Anna Brindle.
The funeral was held Tuesday from the Ege Catholic Church. Burial, Ege

at Avalon Village Nursing Home, Ligonier, retiring due to poor health.

Heckman Mary, daughter of Anthony and Anna Margaret Kugler, was born
February 18, 1857; died April 21, 1925, age 68 years, 2 months and
3 days. She was married to John Heckman on January 9, 1876. They had six children. The husband and five children survive, William of Churubusco,
Anna Brendel of Arcola, John of Fort Wayne, August and Anthony at home; ten
grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Hannah Hogue and Mrs. Sarah Leiter; and seven

He was an attorney in general practice at his firm, Heckner & Kirsch.
He and his son had owned and operated WLNB Radio where he broadcast the daily
news and the "Music for a Sunday Morning". He was a member of
Trinity Lutheran Church of Ligonier and served on several community foundations
and organizations. He was born Feb. 12, 1932 in Neenah, Wis. to George A.
and Erna (Pagel) Heckner. On Sept. 10, 1956 in Orleans, France, he married
Lois J. Miller. Surviving are his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard

minister who served at Sugar Grove Church of God, died in Lutheran Hospital at

Hazen Hedges. He lived near Churubusco and was married to Daisy Jackson, who
died in 1920. In 1963 he married Ruth Gaff Egolf. He is survived by his wife;

Foundry in 1984 after 19 years of service and had worked for Routson Foundry for

Thursday at Goshen Hospital. He was born July 23, 1897 in Noble County to Daniel

Estella Smith. He was a self-employed truck driver and spent his entire life in
the Ligonier area. He was a member of the Ligonier Eagles Lodge and VFW.

Heffner Howard, 96, of R. 3, Ligonier, died Wednesday in
Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Ligonier. He was born April 20, 1891 in Noble
County, the son of Jacob and Sarah (Graham) Heffner. On Nov. 20, 1913 in Topeka,
he married Alma Sheley, who died in 1975. A lifetime area resident, he was a
farmer and member of Topeka Mennonite Church. His only survivors are a niece,
Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Stuff of Wawaka; and a nephew, Owen Heffner of Hastings,

Heffner Leonard H, 88, of Hemet, Calif., was born in Noble County on Dec.
30, 1886 and married Ethel Beatty on June 8, 1910. They were the parents of five
children, two preceding him in death. His first wife died in 1924. He later
married Sybilla MacArthur of Chicago. He retired from postal service in Chicago
and moved to Hemet, Calif. His wife passed away two years ago. To this union was
born one daughter. Survivors include Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Stuff of Wawaka, Mrs.
Robert (Helen) Duesler, Ligonier, Owen Heffner of Hastings, Minn., Mrs. Robert

daughter in Fort Wayne. She had resided in Fort Wayne for the past two and
one-half years. She had lived at Atwood Lake previously and prior to that she

his home of a heart attack. He was born in Sparta Twp Sept. 19, 1894, a son of

retired from farming and moved to Atwood Lake. Surviving are the widow; a

Heffner Roma E, 91, of Ligonier, died April 9, 2010 at Avalon Village in
Ligonier. She was born Sept. 4, 1918 in Ligonier to Milo and Dessie
(Miller) Renner. On March 24, 1940 she married Tharon Heffner. He
died Aug. 26, 2001. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Twila
Cox and Melonie Heffner. She was employed with Starcraft for 30
years. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Mary
Heffner of Edwardsburg, Mich.; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and 3

Heffner Theron Keith, 83, of Topeka, died Aug. 26, 2001 in Elkhart
Hospital. He died from complications from a fall in June. He was
born March 7, 1918 in Mishawaka to Ray and Mildred (Huff) Heffner. He
married Roma Eileen Renner on March 24, 1940 in Ligonier. He was an
inspector in the mobile home manufacturing industry; a U.S. Navy veteran of WW
II and the Korean Conflict; a member of Wolcottville United Methodist Church,
VFW Post 8972 in Bremen, Wolcottville American Legion Post 110, and Disabled
American Veterans Goshen Post. Surviving are his wife; a son, Brent of
Edwardsburg, Mich.; a daughter, Melanie Grover of Bremen; a brother, Ronald of
Kimmell; a sister, Orvaleen Schlotterback of Fort Wayne; 7 grandchildren and 9

Heffner Wilbur, of Ligonier man, died early today of injuries he
suffered in a fall down the cellar stairs at his home. He opened the door to the
cellar, thinking it was the door of another room. The lights were out in the
house and he could not see clearly. He died an hour after the accident. +

in McCray Hospital. He was born Nov. 9, 1903 in Auburn to Fred and Bertha
(Milton) Hefty. His first wife, Martha Wyatt, died in 1957. On July 27, 1957 he
married Treva Alexander. He was a supervisor at Newnam Foundry for 44 years and
was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Kendallville. Surviving are his
wife; one daughter, Maxine Seidel, Fort Wayne; one son, Everett Jr., Rome City;
five stepsons, Max Alexander, Kendallville, Kenneth Alexander, Wawaka, Robert

Hefty Everett Jr, 71, Rome City businessman, died Thursday in Lutheran
Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was born in Kendallville April 26, 1926 to
Everett J. and Martha (Wyatt) Hefty. On Aug. 13, 1949 in Wolcottville he
married Donna Sturgis. He had owned and operated Hefty's South Side
Service Station for 31 years and Hefty Lake Mart 10 years. He was a WW II
U. S. Army Air Force veteran and a member of F&AM Lodge, VFW Post 2749, OES
122, all in Kendallville, and Rome City Lions Club. He had served on the
Rome City Plan Commission and BZA for many years. Surviving are his wife; a
son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Cathy Hefty of Rome City; 2 grandsons,
Byron and Derek Hefty; and a sister, Maxine Seidel of Fort Wayne. Private

Everett Hefty. He died in June 1987. Surviving are 5 sons, Robert

McCray Hospital after being struck Saturday night on State Highway 8 at the east
edge of Albion by a car driven by Carl Bowman of Albion. Blinded by lights of
oncoming cars, Bowman failed to see Heileman, his wife, Ruth, and son Raymond
10, walking along the edge of the road. He was a native of Germany and came to
this county 58 years ago. He had made his home in Kendallville until five years
ago when he moved to Albion. Surviving are the wife and son; two daughters, Mrs.
Rosie Gray, Kendallville, and Pauline at home; three other sons, Martin, Harold

Heiman Mary, 50, wife of Louis Heiman, died Friday at
her home southeast of Wolcottville. Death resulted from a heart attack. She was
found by a daughter about 4:30 o’clock when she returned from school. The
Heiman family moved to Wolcottville five years ago from Fort Wayne. Surviving
are the husband; six daughters and one son, including Mrs. Lucille Brinkman,

Heingartner George F, 78, of R. 3, Wolcottville, died Monday at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born Sept. 6, 1906 in Fort Wayne,
he was the son of William and Mary (Magee) Heingartner. On Nov. 6, 1933 in
Elkhart he married Geraldine Beck. A resident of Wolcottville 12 years, he moved
there from Fort Wayne. He retired after 54 years in the dry cleaning businesses
he owned at two locations in Fort Wayne, the Heingartner Cleaners and Five Point
Cleaners. He was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Wolcottville and
former member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne. Surviving are his
wife; two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Pat) Lytal of Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Paul (Donna)
Springer of Ashley; three sons, Dean of Pleasant Lake, Dan of Wolcottville, and
Don of Albion; and 22 grandchildren. A sister and four brothers preceded him in

Heinlen Bette L, 70, died April 1, 2003 at Parkview Noble Hospital.
She was employed for over 20 years at the V&A Restaurant. She was a
member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion
and VFW in Kendallville. She was born in Kendallville Feb. 24, 1933 to
Frank and Hilda (Mathews) Wogoman but was raised by her grandmother, Anna
Mathews. She married Loren Edwin Heinlen Feb. 12, 1952 in South
Bend. Surviving are her husband in Kendallville; a son and
daughter-in-law, Loren J. and Valerie of LaGrange; 3 daughters and sons-in-law,
Kim and Tom Pippenger of Kendallville, Lori and Tracy Cooper of Albion, and Kari
and Mike Bianski of Kendallville; and 6 grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by a sister, Patricia Jones. Services Friday at Hite Funeral

Heinlen Robert A, 65, died Thursday in Indiana Veterans
Home in West Lafayette. He was born Dec. 27, 1923 in Garrett to Jerome and Mary
(Rhodine) Heinlen. He attended Garrett schools, then served in the U. S. Navy
1940-1943 and the Merchant Marines for 25 years. He was a member of VFW Post
1154 of Lafayette, Garrett American Legion Post and St. Joseph Catholic Church
of Garrett. Surviving are two brothers, Jerome F. of Lake Jackson, Texas, and
Loren E. of Kendallville; and a sister, Marilyn Martorff Smith of Lake Wawasee.

Heintzelman Alexine, 52, Cromwell, died Monday in
Parkview Hospital. She was a lifetime resident of the Cromwell area and was born
in Cromwell Oct. 4, 1911, the daughter of Lemuel and Zula (Green) Hursey. She
was married June 4, 1931 to Lawrence Heintzelman. She was a member of Calvary
Lutheran Church and the Pythian Sisters. Survivors include her husband, her
mother of Cromwell; a son, Roger; and a daughter, Suellen, both of Cromwell; a
brother, Vern of Cromwell; two sisters, Mrs. Harry Ramsey of Lake Wawasee, and

at her home Thursday. She was born Oct. 19, 1902 in Whitley County and
lived in Goshen the past 10 years, moving there from Cromwell. She was married
to Joseph Edward Heintzelman who died in Oct. 1962. Survivors include 3 sons,
Harold, Pierceton, Harvey and Joseph of Ligonier; four daughters, Mrs. Marvin
(Lucille) Fann, R. 2, Elkhart, Mrs. Philip (Mary) Pressler, San Gabriel, Calif.,
Miss Mildred of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., and Miss Edna, Goshen; 17 grandchildren;

Heintzelman Carl A, about 68, of R. 1, Albion, died March 26, 1969 in Parkview Hospital. He was born July 16, 1900 in Whitley County
to John and Rosa Friend Heintzelman. He was a retired farmer. His wife,
Lillian, died Aug. 8, 1968. Survivors are his mother at R. 1, Albion; a
daughter, Mrs. Jean Gaff of Churubusco; a son, Max of Fort Wayne; four
grandchildren; two brothers, Merle of Albion, and Lawrence of Cromwell; and one

Heintzelman Charles W, 92, former resident of Larwill who lived in recent
years in Columbia City, died Friday in Whitley County Hospital. He was born in
June 1892 in Noble County, the son of Josiah and Emeline Hawk Heintzelman.
The family moved to Whitley County in his early youth. He had been married 3 times. His first wife was Violet
Noe, the second, Miriam Null, both of whom are
deceased. His wife, the former Fern Stickler, survives. There is one son,
Charles Jr. of Dunbar, W. Va.; and 2 daughters, Mrs. Elsie Ward of Columbia
City, and Mrs. Leila Bartick of Mayfield Heights; one stepdaughter, Marjorie
Gephart; 6 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 6
great-great-grandchildren. He was the last living member of a family of 8 children. Funeral Monday at Hollingsworth Memorial Chapel, Columbia City.

Heintzelman Esther, daughter of Justice and Esther Itt, was
born in Elkhart Twp near the old Kansas School House March 2, 1854 and died at her home in Wawaka June 29, aged 75 years, 3 months and 27 days. In 1892
she married William Heintzelman. He died Dec. 9, 1925. She was of a family of eight children, seven
girls and one boy. Mrs. Jacob
Hawk of Toledo survives her. She was born and reared in the Methodist faith and
had long been a member of the Wawaka M.E. Church where the funeral was held July

Heintzelman Joseph E, 84, died in flames that leveled his farm home
southwest of Indian Village last Saturday. Cause of the fire has not been
determined. He was alone in the house when the blaze started. His body was found
in the ashes at the southeast corner of the burned-out structure shortly before
midnight Saturday. His wife was visiting a daughter in Goshen at the time. A
laborer, he was a lifetime resident of Noble County, born Oct. 1, 1878 the son
of Josiah and Emeline Heintzelman. On Jan. 31, 1924, he was married to
Anna Mae McDonald. He was a member of the Christian Chapel at Merriam. Surviving
are his wife; three sons, Harold of Pierceton, Joseph and Harvey of Ligonier;
four daughters, Mrs. George Likens of Howe, Mrs. Phillip Pressler of San
Gabriel, Calif., Edna May and Mildred, both of Goshen; a brother, Charles of
Larwill; and a sister, Mrs. Giles Rodgers of Avilla. Rites at

Heintzelman Joseph J,
77, of Ligonier, died January 3, 2014, in Kendallville. He
was born October 28, 1936 in Indian Village to Joseph and Mae Heintzelman.
He married Rosalie Stanger in Ligonier in 1957. Shedied in May of 1991. He
is survived by 2 sons, Rick (Lisa) Heintzelman of Ligonier, and Jim W. (Cynthia)
Heintzelman of Downingtown, Pa.; a daughter, Vicky (Eric) Tierney of Wawaka; 6
grandchildren, Megan, Melissa, Alex, Lisa, Libbey and Shayne; one
great-grandson, Wesley; and a brother, Harvey (Pat) Heintzelman of Ligonier. He
was preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan Heintzelman, 5 sisters and 2 brothers.
He had a variety of occupations, including truck driving and working in
factories in the RV and manufactured housing industries. Funeral Saturday

Heintzelman Lawrence E, 88, died Friday in Goshen General Hospital.
He was born April 10, 1910 in Noble County to John and Rosa (Friend) Heintzelman. He married Alexine Hursey on June 4, 1932. She died in
1963. He married Roxena Goss in 1965. She died in 1993. On
Feb. 23, 1994 he married Lucille Ray. He owned and operated Heintzelman
Grocery Store in Cromwell from 1935 to 1975. He was a member of Merriam
Christian Chapel, Cromwell Masonic Lodge 705, Fort Wayne Scottish Rite, Mizpah
Temple Shrine and Cromwell-Kimmell Lions Club. He was one of the original
founders of Cromwell State Bank and the last original board member living.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Roger of Cromwell; a daughter, Suellen Beers
of Cromwell; 2 stepdaughters; 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Carl and Merle, and 2 sisters, Flossie

Hershal and Mary E. (Budd) Clouse. On Feb. 27, 1932 she married Russell
"Tut" Ray. He died in 1992. She married Lawrence

Heintzelman Merl F, 78, of R. 4, Albion, died Thursday (d.
11-6-1980) at his residence. Born Sept. 20, 1902 in Whitley County, he was
the son of John and Rosa (Friend) Heintzelman. On June 22, 1922 in Niles, Mich.,
he married Mary L. Fuller. He had resided in Noble County most of his life and
was a retired farmer and school bus driver. Surviving are his wife; a daughter,
Mrs. Lester (Norma) Dull of R. 4, Albion; a sister, Mrs. Frank (Ethel Jane)
Bauer of Columbia City; a brother, Lawrence of rural Syracuse; a grandchild; and
two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, a sister, and a

Heintzelman Rodney, 16, died at Goshen Hospital. He and another boy were
experimenting with potassium perchlorate in the Heintzelman basement. The
concoction had been put in a copper test tube and he struck the tube with a
hammer, setting off an explosion which ruptured a main artery in his neck. He
was rushed to the hospital by his parents but was dead on arrival. A junior at
West Noble High School, he was born May 18, 1957 in Goshen to Roger and Charlene
(Horn) Heintzelman, who operate the grocery in Cromwell. He was a member of
Calvary Lutheran Church in Cromwell. Surviving are the parents; two brothers,
James and Jeffrey at home; and the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence

Heintzelman Rosa Z, about 89, of R. 4, Albion, died Sept. 29, 1969 in Whitley County Hospital. She was a Noble County native, having
been born in this county on Aug. 29, 1880. A widow and a housewife, she had
resided in Noble County all her life. Her husband, John, died on May 10,
1962. Surviving are two sons, Merl of Albion, and Lawrence of Cromwell;
one daughter, Mrs. Frank (Ethel) Bauer of Columbia City; eight grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. Five of her children

(Franks) Stanger. On April 20, 1957 in Ligonier she married Joseph J.
Heintzelman. She was employed by Kidd & Co. in Ligonier and was a
member of Stone's Hill Community Church. Surviving are her husband; her
mother and stepfather, Howard Rodman; a daughter, Mrs. Eric (Vicky) Tierney of
Wawaka; 2 sons, Rick of Bourbon and Jim of South Bend; 2 sisters, Mrs. Lester
(Judy) Bender of Wawaka and Mrs. Wayne (Bonnie) Spallinger of Pleasant Lake; and

Heintzelman Roxena B, 75, died Friday in Goshen Hospital. She was
born April 18, 1917 in Warsaw to Charles and Susan (Cook) Wagner. In 1940
she married Jack E. Goss. He died Dec. 13, 1956. On Feb. 3, 1965 she
married Lawrence E. Heintzelman. A Ligonier High School graduate, she was
co-owner of Goss Grocery at Big Lake until 1977 when she sold her interest to
her son, Thomas. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and Ligonier
OES. Surviving are her husband; 2 sons, Thomas Goss of Columbia City and
Mark Goss of Middlebury; 2 stepchildren; 13 grandchildren and 9
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Gwendolyn

Noblesville, March 16, 1889, aged 45 years 11 months and 20
days. She came from Ohio to Indiana
in the spring of 1863. She was here
married first to Clark Allman and was the mother of four children, all but one
of whom and her first husband preceded her in
death. She married Samuel Heintzelman Sept. 1, 1878.
She leaves a husband, son, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

Heintzelman Violet I, 30y10d, daughter of Jeremiah E. and Martha M.
(Reed) Noe, was born near Kimmell August 4, 1888 and passed away at her home in
Laud, Aug. 14, 1918. She graduated from Albion High School in 1908 and was
one of the most successful teachers in Noble County until her marriage.
She ws identified with the Sparta Christian Church. She married Charles
Heintzelman in Albion on Feb. 27, 1913. Two daughters were given to this
union, Elsie Margaret and Leial Madia. They located in Laud Aug.
1917. She is survived by her husband; daughters, her mother, and her
brothers, Claud R. and Gordon G Noe of Kimmell. Her father died Aug. 1,

Heintzelman William died Dec. 8, 1925, age 71 years, 5 months and
22 days. The son of Samuel and Mary Heintzelman, he was born in Medina County,
Ohio, June 16, 1854. He was the youngest of a family of five children, three
sons and two daughters. The father, mother, brothers and sisters have preceded
him in death. He married Esther
Ellen Itt Jan. 15, 1891, locating in Wawaka, where they built and enjoyed
a happy life in their home. He was an employee of the railroad for many years.

Avilla. She was born January 21, 1924 in Dover, Tenn. to Wiiliam and Eula

Wayne. Surviving are her husband in Avilla; a son, Larry of Tenn.; a
brother, Buddy, of Clarksville, Tenn.; and 2 sisters, Evelyn Buss and Gloria
Richardson, both of Clarksville. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters,

Heiny Lawrence H "Larry", 89, died April 6, 2010 at Provena
Sacred heart Home, Avilla. He was born Sept. 7, 1920 to Lawrence and
Stella (Loos) Heiny. He graduated from South Side High School in
1939. He married Dollie Hooks in Fort Wayne on Jan. 2, 1950. She
died in 2006. He worked for Heiny's Grocery and at Nicholas Bakeries and
retired from Lincoln Mfg in 1982. He was a member of the Knights of
Columbus 1790 and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Surviving are a
son, Lawrence J. Heiny; a grandson, Shannon Amerosa; 3 granddaughters, 2
brothers, Nicholas and Robert Heiny of Fort Wayne; and a sister, Victoria Fahey
of Glenview, Ill. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cathy Nevil

Heinzerling Harry DeKalb, 91, Garrett, died Sept. 19, 1999 in
Miller’s Merry Manor, Garrett. He was born April 29, 1908 in Garrett to Carl
and Pluma (Connelly) Heinzerling. He was a director of the Creek Chub Bait Co.,
nationally known for the products sold in over 30 countries. He married Thais H.
Hamilton on July 13, 1929 in Goshen. Surviving are his wife; 3 daughters, Gretel
Smith and Katrina Custer of Garrett, and Johanna Gordon-Byanski of Berlin
Heights, Ohio; 2 sons, Derek of Avilla and Franz of Baltimore, Md.; 19
grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. One son,

Heinzerling Pluma M, 98, died August 4 in Betz Nursing Home in Auburn.
She was born May 19, 1885 in Avilla, the daughter of John and Emma (Strouse)
Conley. She married Carl H. Heinzerling in May 1907 in Garrett. He died January
26, 1950. Surviving are a son, Harry of Garrett; six grandchildren, 19
great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was a homemaker and
assisted her husband in Heinzerling’s Hardware in Garrett. She was the oldest
member of the Garrett United Methodist Church, as well as the oldest member of
the Harmony Chapter of the OES. Graveside services August 6 at Christian

Heitz Robert M, 68, rural Waterloo, died Friday in McCray Hospital. He
was born Sept. 20, 1919 in Butler Twp, DeKalb County, the son of Walter and
Berniece (Weimer) Heitz. He married Mary Ann Lemish April 22, 1946 in Ege.
Surviving are a daughter, Rosalyn Miller, Kendallville; three sons, Philip,
Pampa, Texas, Michael, Lexington, Ky., and Thomas, Lansing, Ill.; two grandsons
and two granddaughters. One son, Jim, preceded him in death. He was a member of
St. Michael’s Catholic Church, the Avilla American Legion Post 240 and the

Heitz Sabina (Ober), wife of Joseph Heitz, died at the home four
miles south of Garrett Monday from pneumonia and heart trouble. She
was born in Bedford County, Pa. Oct. 29, 1861 but had been a resident of Butler
Twp, DeKalb County for three score years. She and Mrs. Heitz were married
thirty-nine years ago. Surviving are the husband; four children, Mrs. Francis E.
Parker of Fort Wayne, Miss Audrey and Arthur at home, and Walter of Butler Twp.;
three brothers, Arthur, Perry and David Ober of Butler Twp; two sisters, Mrs.
Henry Yarde and Mrs. William Gump of Keyser Twp. Another sister, Mrs. Merritt

LaOtto, died May 27 of a heart attack at his home. Surviving in

Heller Berniece C, 87, of Ashley, died March 22 in McCray
Hospital. She was born south of Helmer in Noble County July 17, 1909 to Elmer
and Abbie (DeWitt) Hovarter. She married Lawrence Milleman and he died in 1956.
She married Walter Heller, who died in 1972. She had lived most of her life in
Steuben County and was a 1927 graduate of Salem Center High School. She was a
member of Helmer United Methodist Church and Steuben County Farm Bureau.
Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Pauline Milleman of Huntertown; 2
stepdaughters, Neta Michael of Fremont and Nancy Tarr of Fort Wayne; a stepson,
Duane Heller of Albion; 4 grandchildren, Dr. Jeff Milleman and Susan Papaik of
Fort Wayne, and Carl Richardson and Kris Fisher of Huntertown; 7
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald in 1989; a

Heller Charlotte M, 78, mother of Martin Heller of Avilla, a native of
Noble County, died Saturday in the Garrett Hospital. The daughter of
Charles and Mary Ziebell, she was born May 25, 1888, northeast of Kendallville.
On April 26, 1905, she married Otto Heller in Harlan, Nebr., where they spent
most of their lives. Mr. Heller died in 1955. Surviving are five sons, Walter of
Helmer, Lawrence, Bellflower, Calif., Lewis of Kearney, Nebr., Robert, Garrett,
and Ludean of Monroeville; two daughters, Mrs. Emmett Maaske, Oxford, Nebr., and
Mrs. Kenneth Purk, Fort Wayne; two sisters, 29 grandchildren, and 28

Ronald (Janice) Speeks, Knoxville, Tenn., Mrs. Don (Karen) Grogg and Kathy
Heller, Auburn, Mrs. Gary (Andy) Haffner, Garrett; two brothers, Richard, R. 1,
Hudson, and Larry, Kendallville; and three stepbrothers, Eric Bickel, Garrett,

Heller Don A, 59, died April 15, 1995 in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne,
from complications following surgery for a heart transplant. He was born
In Oxford, Neb., Oct. 11, 1935, the son of Walter C. and Alice D. (Maaske)
Heller. He married JoAnn Ewell June 26, 1954 in Zion Lutheran Church,
Corunna. He was a manager at Flint & Walling. In 1974 he founded
Heller Well Drilling. In 1983 he retired from Philips Industries, Fort
Wayne, as plant manager. He was a member of St. John Lutheran
Church. Surviving are his wife; 2 daughters, Mrs. John (Cheryl) Bruick,
Mrs. Verne (Lisa) McCue, of Kendallville; a brother, Duane of Auburn; 2 sisters,
Nancy L. Tarr of Fort Wayne, Neta L. Michael of Fremont; and 6 grandchildren,
Jessica, Joel and Julie Bruick and Verne, Sarah and Lindsay McCue.

son and daughter-in-law, Adam and Monica of Fort Wayne; a brother, Robert of

father. He had been girls' basketball coach at Concordia Lutheran High

Heller Martin A, 88, Avilla, died October 30, 2003 at Provena Sacred
Heart Home. He was born November 5, 1914 in Oxford, Neb., the son of Otto
and Charlotte (Ziebell) Heller. On December 18, 1934 in Beaver
City, Neb., he married Marie Askey. Surviving are his wife; 3 daughters
and 2 sons-in-law, Billie and Richard Gienger of Avilla, Linda and Larry Thiele
of New Haven, and Annette Anglin of Kendallville; 2 sons and a daughter-in-law,
Robert and Jean of LaGrange, and Lloyd of Fort Wayne; one brother, Robert, of
Pleasant Lake; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 6
great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Leoa
Purk and Ella Maaske; and 4 brothers, Walter, Lawrence, Lewis and Ludean. He retired in 1987 from Burtzner and Wilhelm Sand &
Gravel. He had lived in Avilla 58 years, coming from California. He

Heller Walter C, 66, was born in Nebraska and lived in Helmer 25 years.
He married Berniece Milleman Dec. 26, 1959. She survives. He operated the Heller
Service Station in Helmer and was a retired employee of Sealed Power Corp.,
LaGrange. He was a member of Helmer United Methodist Church. He died Saturday at McCray Hospital. Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs.
Tom (Nancy) Zurbugg of Fort Wayne and Mrs. Richard U. (Neta) Lepley of Ashley;

Hellwig Eric R, 80, of Kendallville, died Tuesday at
Parkview Hospital. He was born Nov. 10, 1902 in Fort Wayne to Frederick and
Lisette (Drier) Hellwig. He married Gertrude Ostermeier. A former Fort Wayne
resident, he was a retired foreman of General Electric Co. in Fort Wayne where
he gave 45 years of service. He was a member of Huntertown Lodge 689 F&AM
and of General Olympic Quarter Century Club. Surviving are his wife; a son, Paul

Hellwig Gertrude, 91, died April 18, 2003 at Shepherd of the Hill.
She was born in Fort Wayne on Aug. 15, 1909 to Charles and Amanda
Ostermeier. She married Eric Hellwig, who died in May 1983. She was
a member of Trinity Church United Methodist, OES in Fort Wayne, and the National
Rifle Association. Surviving are a son, Paul Hellwig of Kendallville; and
a grandson, Joseph Hellwig. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Carl

was a pharmacist for 41 years, most recently employed at Fisher's Pharmacy in

(Ostermeier) Hellwig. He graduated from North Side High School in 1960 and
Purdue University in 1965. Surviving is a son, Joe of Rome City.

Helman Matilda was born in Wayne County, Ohio March 19, 1820. She united
with the M. E. Church at the age of 16. She was married to Robert P. Helman Feb.
18, 1840, living with him until his death in 1872. They came to Noble County in
1854, removed to Wisconsin in 1860 overland by teams, but in consequence of the
cholera which was raging through that country, they were compelled to return to
this place. She was the mother of 8 children, 3 of whom are now living, Harmon
L. of our place, Doran P. and Gordon who reside in the west. ^ 8-31-1882
Helmer Beulah I, 91, former Kendallville resident, died Tuesday in McCray Hospital from complications from diabetes. Born May 18, 1897
in Swan, she was the daughter of Francis A. and Carrie F. (Cramer) Lobdell. On
Nov. 30, 1932, she married Lawrence Helmer, who preceded her in death. She moved
to Kendallville in 1932 from Swan and was a clerk many years in a dry goods
store in Auburn. She also worked at the Kendallville Nutrition Site. Surviving
are a stepson, Wilbur Helmer, Kendallville; a niece, Florence Dominy, Fort
Wayne; and many other nieces and nephews. Two brothers preceded her in death.

Helmer C Robert, 84, died Feb. 5, 2004 at the Good Shepherd Hospice in
Lakeland, Fla. He was born in Kendallville on May 7, 1919 to Cyrus and
Elizabeth (Baughman) Helmer. He married Mary Donley on Aug. 2, 1941 in
Washington, D.C. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II. He studied
at George Washington University and Montgomery College and worked as a
cartographer for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Surviving are his wife; 2 daughters; Mary Titus of Swathmore, Pa., and Kay
Spears of Lakeland, Fla.; a sister, Ruth Pontius of Fort Wayne; a granddaughter,
Heather Spears, and a great-grandson, David Houser. Burial was

Helmer Charles J, 86, a rural mail carrier in Avilla for 43 years, died Saturday at the Sacred Heart Home. He was a lifetime Avilla resident and
had resided at the home the past two years. He was born September 19, 1885, the
son of John and Frances (Borck) Helmer. He and Mary Demske were married Feb. 18,
1914, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She preceded him in death in 1952. He was
retired from the postal service and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic

Helmer John, a resident of Auburn for 29 years, died Monday at
the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harry Davis of 715 Dowling St., Kendallville. His
death was attributed to arterial sclerosis. Services were at St. Mary’s

Avilla Sept. 8, 1864. For 29 years, he resided with his wife, the former Frances
Borck on S. Indiana Ave. in Auburn. The couple was married 65 years last Oct.
14. He was employed for many years on the Fort Wayne & Northwestern Railway
interurban lines and the Vandalia Railroad as a section worker. Surviving
besides the widow and the daughter, Mrs. Davis, are three sons, Carl of Avilla,
William of Coldwater, Mich., and Lawrence of Kendallville; two other daughters,

Manchester College and Indiana University, he retired in 1972 as administrator

Hospital. He was a lifetime farmer and retired from Stanadyne in Garrett

Garrett. He was a WWII veteran and 1942 graduate of Avilla High
School. He was born September 30, 1924 in his home in Avilla to Charles
and Mary I. (Demske) Helmer. He married Wilma M. Fischer in St. Mary's
Catholic Church on May 6, 1950. Surviving are his wife; a daughter and
son-in-law, Mary and Jeffrey Hicov of Auburn; 2 sons and one daughter-in-law,
Tony Helmer and David and Cindy Helmer of Avilla; 3 sisters, LaRoma Slater, Joan Campbell and Rita

Lodge, Kendallville. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Linda Jones of

in Avilla. She was born on November 5, 1929, in Avilla, the daughter of

She graduated from Avilla High School in 1947 and married Philip Helmer on May
6, 1950. He died Aug. 9, 2002. She was a member of St. Mary's
Catholic Church and the American Legion Post 240. She worked as a waitress
at the St James Restaurant for 10 years. Surviving are two sons and
daughters-in-laws, David and Cindy Helmer and Tony and Nancy Helmer, all of
Avilla; a daughter, Mary Hicov of Auburn; eight grandchildren; 13

Helmkamp Bernard H "Ben", 77, was born Oct. 25, 1897 in
Cloverdale, Ohio, the son of Frank and Josephine Langhals Helmkamp. He lived in
Avilla since 1940. After retiring in 1958, he worked at Sacred Heart Home until
1973. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society,
Catholic Knights of Ohio, and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He died Sept. 13

on September 26, 1975, to Ralph Helmkamp and Margaret (Simmons) Weber. He graduated from East Noble High
School in 1994 and Vincennes University in 1996. He married Renae Workman on
February 1, 2003 in Avilla. He was employed with Steel Dynamics
in Butler since 1997. Survivors include his wife; 2 daughters, Sadie and Aubrey

He and his wife owned and operated LaGrange County Dodge in LaGrange.
He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in LaGrange and the
Knights of Columbus. He was born on Feb. 14, 1924, in Cloverdale, Ohio, to
Bernard and Hilda (Kolhoff) Helmkamp. He married Ellen Kreienbrink on Feb. 23,
1946, in Kendallville. Surviving are
his wife; 4 sons, Thomas and Karen Helmkamp of LaGrange, Michael and Dee
Helmkamp of Howe, Al and Kitty Helmkamp of LaGrange and Ed and Mary Kay Helmkamp

2001 at her home. The lifetime Avilla resident was a homemaker and had
worked at St. James Restaurant in Avilla. She was a member of St. Mary's
Catholic Church and its Rosary Society. She was born April 14, 1931 in
Avilla to Charles J. and Mary (Demske) Helmer. On July 10, 1954 at St.
Mary's Church she married Richard Helmkamp, who survives. Also surviving
are a daughter and son-in-law, Chris and Cecil Likens of Auburn; 3 sons and
daughters-in-law, Ben and Brenda Helmkamp of Huntertown, Kevin and Sheryl

Helmkamp Hilda C, 85, R. 2, Avilla, died July 29 at Sacred
Heart Home. She was born July 24, 1901 in Glandorf, Ohio, the daughter of Joseph
and Theresa (Westbeld) Kolhoff. She married Ben Helmkamp in Glandorf June 22,
1922. He died Sept. 13, 1975. She had been a resident of the Avilla area since
1940, moving here from Glandorf. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic
Church and its Rosary Society. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Mary)
Ley, R. 2, Avilla, and Joann Renner of Fort Wayne; six sons, Don of

Helmkamp James J, 73, of Auburn, died July 10, 2010 at his
residence. He was born Feb. 17, 1937 to Bernard and Hilda Helmkamp in
Putnam County, Ohio. He graduated from Avilla High School in 1955 and was
drafted into the U.S. Army in 1958. On Aug. 27, 1960 he married Ann
Marti. He worked at Newnam and Lane foundries and on Oct. 1, 1984 his
family purchased the Chrysler dealership in Auburn. He operated the agency
until retirement in 2001. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception
Church in Auburn, the Auburn Chamber of Commerce, American Legion Post 202 in
Butler, Auburn Lions Club, Kendallville and Auburn Elks and Moose lodges.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Mark Angermeier of
Mooresville; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Nancy (Bloom) Helmkamp of
Auburn and Roger and Michelle (Speer) Helmkamp of Carmel; 10 grandchildren,

in Avilla. She was born Nov. 15, 1928 in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. to Alfred
and Genevieve (LeGault) Vigneaux. She married Robert J. Helmkamp on Nov.
29, 1974. He died in 1996. She retired in 1989 as a nurse's aide
from Provena Sacred Heart Home and then worked at Snyder Distribution North
until 3 years ago. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Surviving are 3 brothers and sisters-in-law, Wilfred and Florence Vigneaux of
Grayling, Mich., Homer and Gladys Vigneaux of Fort Wayne, and Richard and Kathy

Helmuth Adolph Charles, 75, resident of Kendallville for 66 years, died last evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. M. H. Clay, 320 N.
State St. due to thrombosis. He was born March 23, 1863 at Auburn, the son of
the late Harmon and Ernestine Helmuth. At the age of 4 years he accompanied his
parents to Chicago, the family living there at the time of the Chicago fire. In
1872 they located in Garrett and a year later moved to Kendallville. At that
time he was 9 years of age. On July 1, 1888 he married Dora Lieberenz. They had one daughter. His wife died Dec. 18, 1916 and
since that time he had resided with his daughter. He had been affiliated with
the Methodist Episcopal Church for fifty years, was a member of Kendallville
Lodge No. 109 Knights of Pythias and Ben Hur Court No. 20. For many years he was
employed in the paint shop of Flint & Walling Mfg. Co., retiring 12 years
ago following an attack of influenza. Surviving are the daughter; a grandson,
Richard Clay, student at Indianapolis Pharmacy College; three brothers, William,
Chicago, Louie, Hayward, Calif., and Charles, Helmer. Funeral Saturday

Helmuth Dora, wife of Adolph C. Helmuth, died Monday at her home,
322 N. State St. from spinal sclerosis. Dora Lieberenz-Helmuth
was born in Prussia, Aug. 8, 1866 and came with her parents to the United States
in 1872, locating in LaGrange County. She spent her girlhood days in the farm
home, and at the age of 22 years married Adolph C. Helmuth of
Kendallville on July 1, 1888. She had made Kendallville her residence ever
since. She had been identified with the M. E. Church of this city for 28 years.
She was a member of the Ben Hur Court. + 12-18-1916
Heltzel Belle, 81, (b. 8-13-1872 - d. 5-23-1954) of York Twp, died Sunday at McCray Hospital after an illness with a congestive heart
ailment. Born in Ohio, she had lived in this community most of her life. She was
a member of the Albion Methodist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ora
Sparrow, and Mrs. Ralston Grear, Ossian; two sons, Dean, Albion, and Glen,
Indianapolis; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Minta
Hoffman; two brothers, Owen Palmer of Mishawaka, and Harry Palmer, Alberta,
Canada.

Heltzel Catherine Elizabeth, daughter of John and Christena Lung, was
born in DeKalb County, Ind., Feb. 23, 1868, and died at her home
in Avilla May 24, 1923, age 55 years, 3 months and 1 day. She married George Heltzel July 5, 1902.
They had 2 children,
Clarence age 20, and Richard age 11; also five children by a former marriage.
Death came through the result of uremic poisoning. She and her husband lived in
Albion and community until a year or so ago when they moved to Avilla where he
had work on the B&O Railroad. She leaves her husband and two sons; also
children of a former marriage, Mrs. Jennie Dolan of Huntington, Ind.,
Mrs. Celia Tiller of Kalamazoo, Mich., Ellen, deceased, Ted Hoxie and Irean
Hoxie; three sisters, Mrs. Charles Campbell of Albion, Mrs. William Kenton of
Auburn, and Mrs. Walt Hamilton of Bremen; two brothers, George and Curtis of

Heltzel Claude W, 62, of R. 1, Wawaka, died Thursday in
LaGrange Hospital. Born Dec. 4, 1918 in Bremen, he was the son of Seymoure and
Myrtle (Sparrow) Heltzel. On Sept. 29, 1946 in Rome City, he married Mary
Krotzer. He moved from Bremen to Wawaka in 1938. He was a WW II Army veteran and
employed by Kendallville Foundry. He attended Wawaka United Methodist Church.

Heltzel Elias, 84, resident of Albion for many years, died Wednesday at the county jail where he had been incarcerated pending his commitment
to the state hospital for treatment. He had been a resident of Noble County 70
years, coming here from Ohio, where he was born, with his parents when he was 14
years of age. He first located in York Twp and then came to Albion some years
ago. He was formerly street commissioner and for a number of years carried mail
from the post office to the depot. He was a familiar figure on the streets,
driving a covered wagon with a team of western ponies. He is survived by the
widow, Nancy; a daughter, Mrs. George Stienbarger; and 2 sons, John of
Albion and Edward of Middlebury by a previous marriage; and several
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was twice married, his first wife

widow of Henry Heltzel, former recorder of Noble County, was in
attendance at the Old Settlers’ Meeting on Saturday last.
She removed from Virginia in 1834 with her first husband, Adam Hull and 6
children and settled first in Allen County.
She was the mother of 9 children before the death of her first husband
and marriage with Mr. Heltzel. Her
grandchildren numbered 73, of whom more than 50 are yet living.
She has 16 granddaughters and 9 grandsons who are married and 34
great-grandchildren, the eldest of whom is 16 years of age.
One of her daughters, the wife of Isaac Tibbott, was married to Mr.
Tibbott in Eel River Twp and they are supposed to be the first pair wedded in

to Floyd and Vivian (Fockler) Heltzel. On May 4, 1968 in San Francisco,
Calif., he maried JoAnn LaConte. Surviving are his parents; his wife; a
daughter, Donna Rasler of Rome City; a son and daugher-in-law, Joseph and
Michelle Heltzel of Indianapolis; 2 granddaughters, Sirena Conley of Mich., and

May, Minnie Elmira, (twins) and William David have preceded their mother in

Topeka; five grandchildren; two brothers, John of Syracuse, and William of

Heltzel Jacob was born in Stark County, Ohio on Oct. 17, 1854. As
a child he went with his family to Michigan where he resided until he grew to
young manhood when he came to Indiana and married Susan Bender. They
had 5 children - Clarence, David and Mae with the mother having died. Two sons survive, Jesse and George, both of Kendallville. There are 3
grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren surviving also. In 1905 he married Mrs.
Mary Binkley, who with two stepdaughters, Mrs. Grace Prickett and Mrs. Bertha
Fogel, remain also. In Dec. 1934 he met with an accident from which he never
recovered, having to remain in bed. On Nov. 17 he died, being 83 years

Heltzel Jefferson, son of Christian and Catherine (Vance) Heltzel, was
born in Noble County July 10, 1861, died at his country home near
Albion Oct. 21, 1935, aged 74 years, three months and one day. He married Belle Palmer in 1892.
They had ten children.
Five of them preceded their father in death. Those remaining are Glenn of
Mishawaka, Lera Wirick of Albion, Gladys Grear of Ossian, Dean and Caroline at
home. He was for a number of years a member of the IOOF. He always made his home
in Noble County. Surviving are the widow; the above named five children; a
brother, Thomas of Mishawaka; two half-brothers, Seymoure of Bremen, and Andrew

Heltzel Mabel Malee, 71, of R. 2, Albion, died Tuesday (d.7-5-1983) in Whitley County Hospital. She was born May 4, 1912 in Jefferson
Twp to Elden and Myra (Pennel) Engle. On July 11, 1969 in Albion she
married Dean Heltzel. Her first husband, Donald Halferty, died in 1963. She was
a retired employee of Essex Wire of Ligonier. Surviving are her husband; two
daughters, Peggy Earnhart of R. 2, Albion, and Doris Largen of Fort Wayne; a
son, Kenneth Halferty of New Haven; two sisters, Lois Woods of Ligonier, and
Leora Hiatt of Dunedin, Fla. a brother, Ray of Avilla; 10 grandchildren;
and three great-grandchildren. Two brothers and a son preceded her in death.

Heltzel Myrick, son of George and Sylvia Heltzel, was born in Noble
County Aug. 1, 1871. He died March 30, 1939 at the age of 67
years, 7 months and 29 days. On March 3, 1898 he married Viola
Clara Smith. She died April 19, 1927. They had two children, one
son, Orville L. of Elkhart; and one daughter, Mrs. Orval Coe of Albion. He
leaves 2 children; nine grandchildren; his mother of near
Albion; three brothers, Tilden of Larwill, Charlie of near Albion, Milton
of Mongo; and two sisters, Mrs. Dan Musser of Ligonier, and Mrs. John Crothers
of Kendallville. His father died in July 1927. He was the oldest of a family of
six children and the first of them to died. He was a member of
the Old Pleasant Hill Christian Church, located about seven miles northwest of
Albion. He has been a lifelong resident of Noble County, excepting for a period
of two or three years. In his early boyhood his parents moved to the state of

Thursday at her home on W. Hazel St. from a heart attack. She was formerly from
the Avilla area and after her marriage became a resident of Albion many years
ago. Survivors are several married stepsons and stepdaughters, children of her

died Oct. 4, 1960 in the Maumee Valley Hospital in Toledo, Ohio. Surviving are the

Heltzel Seymour, 80, resident of Wawaka and a native of Albion,
died at McCray Hospital March 30. He was born July 2, 1870 in Albion and was a
retired B&O Railroad employee. Surviving is the widow, Myrtle; and a

Heltzel Sylvia, aged 89 years, 11 months and 18 days, a pioneer of
Noble County, died Feb. 19, 1940. She was born March 1, 1850 to Joseph
and Sylvia Roe, who came in an early day to Noble County, where she grew to
womanhood. On Aug. 14, 1870 she was married to George W. Heltzel, with whom she
lived until his death 12 years ago. They had four sons and two
daughters. One son, Myrick, died in March 1939. Surviving are three sons,
Charles of York Twp, Tilden of Larwill, and Milton of LaGrange; two daughters,
Mrs. John Crothers of Kendallville, and Mrs. Dan Musser of Ligonier; 18

Helvey Franzel "Jack", 82, R. 2, Avilla, died Aug. 16 at
Miller’s Merry Manor in Garrett. He was born in North Manchester April 5,
1902, the son of Clarence and Cora (Metzger) Helvey. He married Mildred Hill
Aug. 2, 1952. He moved from Warsaw to Avilla 32 years ago and ran a lawn mower
shop north of Avilla. He was a member of the Manchester Masonic Lodge. Surviving
are his wife; a stepdaughter, Mrs. David (Emma) Secor of Cascade, Md.;
three stepsons, Charles Wells, Martinsville, Robert Wells, Warsaw, and Max

Helvey Mildred C, 89, of Warsaw, died Jan. 31 in Prairie
View Health Care Center in Warsaw. She was born May 24, 1906 in Warsaw to Ed and
Carrie Hill. In 1950 she married Franzil Helvey, who died Aug. 16, 1984. She
formerly lived in rural Avilla. Surviving are 2 sons, Robert Wells of Warsaw,
and Max Wells of Kendallville; a daughter, Emma Jane Secor of Cascade, Md.; 4

Helwig Margaret, 73, died Wednesday at the home of her daughter,
Mrs. Charles G. Beckman on State St. Her husband, B. F. Helwig, died 3 years

Hemer Daniel died at his home on Freeman St. Sunday from
stomach trouble. He was born in Germany 64 years ago and came to this country
with Julius Lang when 17 years old. He settled in New York City where he learned
the shoemaker’s trade and on the breaking out of the war enlisted in Co. C.,
45th New York Volunteer Infantry and later joined the 58th New York Volunteers. Soon after the war he came to this city where he has been
employed ever since in the Lang Shoe Store until obliged by poor health to give
up work about 3 years ago. He is survived by his wife, 2 sons, Henry and Charles
of this city; and 4 daughters, Mrs. William Wagner, Mrs. Clara Coffel,
and the Misses Tena and Dora, all of this city. Funeral at the German

Hemminger Annie D, 75, of 114 Drake Road, died Monday in McCray
Hospital. She was born in Branch County, Mich., June 10, 1907 to James Henry and
P. Kathern (Winans) Cash. On Feb. 27, 1943 in Fort Wayne she married Robert D.
Hemminger. She moved here 60 years ago from Michigan and was a member of the
First Church of the Nazarene. She had been employed by Kraft Foods, Kendallville
Laundry, Palace of Sweets, Skiles Ice Cream Parlor and Murphys. Her husband is
the only immediate survivor. She was preceded in death by one brother and one

Hemminger Robert D, 68, Kendallville, died Wednesday in McCray Hospital emergency room. Born in Greeley, Colo., Oct. 12,
1919, he was the son of Andrew and Ida (Barhydt) Hemminger. On Feb. 27, 1943 in
Fort Wayne he married Annie Cash, who died May 2, 1983. He had lived in
Kendallville 50 years and was employed by the city of Kendallville. There are no

Hemrick Dorothea B, 81, died Wednesday in her Kendallville
residence. She was born in Kendallville Feb. 6, 1911, the daughter of
Arthur W. and Dilla (Locker) Blanchard. On April 24, 1934 in Fort Wayne
she married George Hemrick. He died in 1978. She was a member of
Faith United Methodist Church and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.
She received local, state and national awards for her quilts. Surviving
are 2 daughters, Diane Springer of Kendallville and Mrs. Donald (Nancy) Dunkle
of Swanton, Ohio; a son, Stanley Hemrick of Kendallville; a sister, Wava
Blanchard of Eaton Rapids, Mich.; and 8 grandchildren. Two brothers and 2

farmer, a member of the Presbyterian Church in Peru, the Masonic Lodge F &
AM No. 451, and the Quarter Century Club of McCray Refrigerator Co. Surviving
are his wife; his mother in Peru; two daughters, Mrs. Don (Nancy) Dunkel,
Swanton, Ohio, and Diane Springer, Kendallville; one son, Stan C., R. 1,
Kendallville; one sister, Betty, Tallahassee, Fla.; and six grandchildren. One

Henderson Addie - Mrs. Leo Delucenay received word that her mother,
Mrs. Addie Henderson, 76, died Monday at Sequim, Wash., where she
had made her home for the past several years. She was born September 3, 1888
near Salem Center, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alfred DeWitt and lived in
the Kendallville area most of her life. For the past 20 years she has resided in
Elkhart and Avilla as well as the West Coast. Services will be held Wednesday
afternoon at the Harper Funeral Home at Sequim, Wash. Burial will be at Salem

Henderson Arthur was born in Massachusetts May 4, 1871. When
a child he and his 2 brothers were left without father or mother. A little later
the family was scattered. One brother was sent east and the other two, Harry and
Arthur, were sent to Indiana where they grew to manhood near Kendallville. At
the time of his death he was conductor on the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railroad.
He died at Toledo, O. May 4, at exactly the age of 32. Funeral at

Henderson Edward Charles, son of Charles and Mary Henderson, was born in
Albion, April 22, 1863, and died at his home in Webster County, Nebraska
Nov. 10, 1933 at the age of 70 years, six months and 18 days. He married Amelia VanDyke Feb. 21, 1888.
They had two sons and
three daughters. His companion died Feb. 14, 1889. When a young man he
united with the Methodist Church and later while living in Missouri he placed
his membership in the Methodist Church there. The five children are Mrs. Ethel
Jagger of Minneapolis, Kans., Mrs. Twila Tuckle of Miltonvale, Kans., Harry of
Red Cloud, Neb., Ross and Hazel on the farm where they cared for their father in
the last years of his life. He also leaves 9 grandchildren and 2 sisters,

Henderson Ethel Mae, 86, died Friday at Kendallville Manor Healthcare
Center. She was born Feb. 3, 1908 in Kendallville to John Schauweker and
Clara Southerland. On June 4, 1924 in Centreville, Mich. she married
Howard R. Rimmel. He died in Jan. 1971. In 1974 she married Phil
Henderson. He died in 1976. She was a waitress at the former Jim
Logh's Restaurant in Rome City. Surviving are a daughter, Phyllis
Ransbottom of Kendallville; a son, Alfred Rimmel of LaGrange; 5 grandchildren,
Mrs. Mike (Tonya) Antal, Leslie Novak, Greg Rimmel, Adelene Graff and Chris
Rimmel; and 6 great-grandchildren. Also preceding her in death were a son,

Henderson George Washington, about 70, a former resident of Noble County,
died Sunday in a Fort Wayne hospital. He is survived by two daughters,
Mrs. Carl Keller, and Mrs. Clyde Weaver of Allen County; and two sons, Joseph of

Henderson Harry L was born in New Brunswick Canada in 1867 and died in
Michigan City, Ind. Dec. 6, at the age of 38. Funeral was at the Christian
Church. Burial, Lake View Cemetery beside his brother. He enlisted as a private
in the 27th Indiana Battery A in the Spanish-American War. In Jan.
1901 he married Bessie Royce of Michigan City. Two daughters, Margaret and Helen
were born, who with the wife, survive. There is living also one brother, Frank.
Another brother, Arthur, died about 2 1/4 years ago and is buried here in
Kendallville. In March 1899 he was appointed chaplain of the Indiana State

Henderson Henry Phillip, 73, Rome City, died Wednesday at
McCray Hospital. He was born Sept. 29, 1902 in Fort Wayne to William Bailey and
Mary Ellen (Crow) Henderson. He was a Rome City resident since 1959 and moved
there from Sidney, Ohio. Before his retirement in 1966, he was custodian at Rome
City School. He was a member of Temporence Lodge 73 F&AM, Ohio. He is
survived by his wife, Ethel; and one sister, Mrs. Mary Eleanor Zollinger,

Health Center, Fort Wayne. He was born March 7, 1896 in Kennard, Neb., the son

Mich., he married Ruth Monroe. He was a self-employed music teacher before his

29, 1930 in Birmingham, Mich., she married Roy A. Henderson, who died Sept. 16,
1986. She had lived most of her life in Fort Wayne and Rome City. Surviving are

Hendrich Judy Ann, 19, was killed in an automobile accident Friday
evening in Fort Wayne. She was born July 30, 1947, the daughter of Dean
and Faye McClure. An East Noble High School student, she had been
attending Fort Wayne Beauty College. Surviving are her parents; her

13, 2011 at the Provena Sacred Heart Home in Avilla. He was born on June 25, 1926, in Paxton, Ill., to Jacob G. and
Delia M. (Harriett) Hendricks. On December 13, 1952, in Waynedale he married
Maxine Guenther. She died October 6, 1998.
He served in the U.S. Navy. He
was a truck driver for many years, driving for Dexter Axle in Albion and for
Flint & Walling in Kendallville. He also retired from the Pennsylvania
Railroad. He was a member of the
Albion Fire Department, Albion Eagles Lodge FOE 2455 and Albion American Legion
Post 246. He is survived by a
daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Darrell Lash of rural Kendallville; two
sons, Mitchell K. Guenther of Centerville, Ind., and Donald Hendricks of
Florida; 4 grandchildren, Michael Lash, Jason Lash, Nicholas Guenther and Amy
Guenther; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lloyd Hendricks of Decatur,

Hendrickson Fred G, about 57, superintendent of Ligonier city schools,
died Aug. 26, 1951 of a heart attack while visiting at the home of friends.

grandchildren; two brothers, Elmer of Columbia City, and Arthur, Churubusco; and
four sisters, Mrs. Florence Sheldon of Churubusco, Mrs. Walter C. Miller, Miss

five years and had been associated with the Ligonier schools for the past 25

Thursday in his home. He was born July 26, 1900 in Martha’s Vineyard, Mass. He
married Marguerite Havens Dec. 5, 1925 in Goshen. He moved to Ligonier three
years ago. He was a retired tool and die maker and member of Moose Lodge.

hammer operator. His first wife, Velma, died in 1963. He married Margaret Coats

Hill, Kendallville. She was born Feb. 27, 1910 in Jefferson Twp to Orville and

She then married Harold H. Henke, who died April 3, 1988. She was a member of
Asbury Methodist Church, Albion, since 1925 and was a member of York Twp
Extension Club and Albion Eagles Ladies Auxiliary #2245. Surviving are a
brother, Herman of Avilla; one daughter, Norma Mann of Ocklawala, Fla.; 3 sons,
Paul Coats of Fort Wayne, Richard and James Coats of Albion; 11 grandchildren;
and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Robert and

Henke Maurice W, 43, R. 1, Hudson, brother-in-law of John Hockenbarger,
died at his home Saturday from a heart attack. He was born Sept. 15,
1927 to Fred and Dorothy (Baker) Henke and was married to Leona M. Hockenbarger
in Ashley Aug. 27, 1952. She survives. He was a lifelong resident of Hudson and
was employed by I&M in Kendallville. Other survivors include his father; two
sisters, Mrs. Vonell Young, Stroh, and Mrs. Lavon Pollock, Kendallville; and one

Henline Charles, 76, died Dec. 14, 1945 at his home on
the Patrick Mangan farm in Noble Twp, where he had lived for many years. The
Mangans found him ill at 9:30 and called a doctor but his death occurred before
the arrival of the doctor. The coroner pronounced death due to valvular heart
disease. He came to Indiana from Ohio more than 30 years ago and there are no

Henley Helen G, 79, died today in ExtendaCare in Kendallville. She
was born in Fremont Feb. 25, 1918 to Rennie and Glendora (Peepers) Gould.
On May 9, 1936 in LaGrange she married John B. Henle. A graduate of
Fremont High School, she was a member of Rebekah Lodge No. 378. Surviving
are her husband; 2 daughters, Shirley Adams of North Manchester and Carolynne
Goodman of Orland; 2 sons, John II of Wasilla, Alaska and Glenn of Maggie
Valley, N.C.; 2 sisters, Pauline Tubbs and Mary Buknis of Fremont; a brother,

Army and was a member of the American Legion Post 86 in Kendallville. He
was born in Ray on Feb. 8, 1916 to Alvin and Jane (Brouse) Henly. He
married Helen Gould on May 9, 1936 in LaGrange. She died Feb. 5,
1998. Surviving are a son, John Jr. and his wife, Gillian of Wasilla,
Alaska; a daughter and her husband, Carolyn and Billy Goodman of Howe; 16
grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; a
brother, William of Cleveland, Ohio; and a sister, Pat Mitterling of
Akron. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Adams in 1999;

Henn Corinne E, 90, died Thursday in Miller's Merry Manor in
Syracuse. She was born Oct. 6, 1903 in Ligonier to George and Anna
(Wolford) Hussey. She married Kennth R. Henn on Dec. 26, 1922 in
Ligonier. He died in 1987. A 1921 graduate of Goshen High School,
she attended Elkhart Business College. She had been executive secretary of
Wirk Garment Co. in Ligonier, director of the State Dept. of Personnel and
director of the Noble County Welfare Dept. She was a member of Ligonier
Presbyterian Church, Ligonier Study Club, and was 4th District vice chairman of

and Robert L. Henn of Huntington; 7 grandchildren and 6

Huntington. She was a 1946 graduate of Cromwell High School and received a
bachelor's degree in elementary education from Indiana University. She had
taught in Ligonier School and was a substitute teacher for Huntington County
Community Schools. She was a member of Tri Kappa Sorority and Alpha Xi
Delta Chapter of Indiana University. She was born April 3, 1928 in
Cromwell to Dane D. and Myrtle (Moore) Secrist. She married Robert L. Henn
on June 21, 1952 in Enid, Okla. Surviving are her husband; 2 sons, Rob and
David; a sister, Donabelle Duesler of Huntington; and 3 grandchildren. A

Henn Kenneth R, 84, of Ligonier, died today
in Kenney Health Care Center. He was born in Chicora, Pa., April 27, 1903, the
son of Anthony and Nora (Crawford) Henn. On Dec. 26, 1922 in Ligonier he married
Corinne Hussey. For many years he was the private chauffeur for one of Ligonier’s
prominent Jewish families, the Isaac Rose family. He was a member of the
Ligonier Presbyterian Church and Masonic Lodge No. 185. He lived in the Ligonier
area 65 years. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Dr. Ray Anthony Henn of
Greenfield, and Robert of Huntington; a sister, Charlotte Hayes of Newton Falls,
Ohio; two brothers, Clair of Maple Heights, Ohio, and Eugene of Warren, Ohio; 7 grandchildren and

Henn Ray Anthony, 80, of Syracuse, died Oct. 30, 2004 at Gables of
Greencroft in Goshen. A graduate of Indiana University Medical School, he
served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He had been a general practitioner
1950-1987 in Greenfield. A member of Bradley United Methodist Church in
Greenfield, he had been the first Boy Scout in Noble County to achieve Eagle
rank. He was a member of Greenfield American Legion Post, Elks Lodge, and
Indiana Medical Society. He was born Jan. 11, 1924 in Ligonier to Kenneth
R. and Corinne E. (Hussey) Henn. On Feb. 20, 1960 he married Mary J.
Cook. Surviving are his wife; 3 sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert of
Morgantown, W.Va., William of Denver, Colo., and Marc and Traci of Syracuse; 2
daughters and sons-in-law, Ahlon and Brad Conner of Charlotte, Va., and Anne and

Kendallville High School. She was born Oct. 22, 1909 to Lake and Maude
(Wilson) Kizer in Edgerton, Ohio. She married Gordon T. Henney on Nov. 21,

Henney Floyd T was born February 8, 1881at Ionia, Mich. and died
December 5, 1949 at his farm home west of Avilla at the age of 68. He was the
son of Jeriel and Lucetta Hines Henney. The family came to reside in Avilla in

Lottie Ramsten December 24, 1905. The had two sons, Robert R. and Harry H. He moved to his present location thirty-five years ago and engaged

1946. He was a funeral director at Cromwell, having entered that profession

to Grand Rapids, Mich., died there Sunday. She was born in Noble
County Sept. 17, 1899, the daughter of Samuel and Eliza (Ferguson) Kline. On
June 6, 1933 in Albion she married Earl Henney, who died July 30, 1978. The only
survivor is a brother, S. Clare Kline of Lakeland, Fla. Seven brothers preceded

Henney Lucetta Jane, daughter of Thomas and Sarah Hines, was born in
Richland County, Ohio, Jan. 12, 1850, and at her home near Avilla,
March 24, 1925, aged 75 years, 2 months and 12 days. She was one of a family of
seven children and grew up near Albion, the family moving to this county
in 1861 when she was eleven years of age. She was united with the Rehoboth
Lutheran Church when she was seventeen years of age and held to the Lutheran
faith throughout her life. On Oct. 11, 1868 she married Jeriel H. Henney and
they had eight children, Justin,
Clyde, Floyd, Mrs. Bertha Stephenson, Mrs. Ella Fulks, of Avilla, Forrest of
Cromwell, Merle of Ligonier, Mrs. Lesta Neal of Albion. In 1900 the family
located in Avilla and have resided here since that time. She leaves the
husband, the children, 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, and
also two sisters, Mrs. George Black and Mrs. Albert Singrey, and two brothers,

Hospital, Fort Wayne. She was born Nov. 28, 1890 in Cromwell to Milton and
Jeanette Moore and was married March 11, 1911 in Cromwell to Forrest Henney. He
died in 1946. She was a former funeral director. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs.

Henoch Sol died March 12, 1951 in Los Angeles, Calif., where he and Mrs.
Henoch had made their home since leaving Ligonier several years ago. Death was
due to pneumonia. He was born in LaPorte 78 years ago and came to Ligonier in
1895 being employed by the Straus Brothers Co. as a stenographer. He was later
employed as bookkeeper and office manager of the Ligonier Carriage Co. When the
Ligonier Refrigerator Co. was formed, he became one of the principle
stockholders and was largely responsible for the success of that company. He was
a charter member of the Elks Lodge and was one of the men responsible for the
organization of the lodge in Ligonier. He was a former mayor of Ligonier. He is
survived by his widow, Malvene. Funeral in Los Angeles and the body taken to
Nashville, Tenn., where burial was made in the Jewish cemetery in that city. +

Henry Alma Fae, 82, died Saturday in Kendallville Nursing Home. She
was born in Albion Aug. 13, 1908 to Frank and Mae (Albaugh) Shambaugh. On
June 6, 1925 in Michigan she married Carney Henry. He died Nov. 25,
1966. A beautician, she was a member of First Christian Church in
Kendallville. Surviving are 2 sons, Franklin of Waterman, Ill., and
Richard of New Cumberland, Pa.; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Henry Anna Elizabeth (Schmenk), the wife of Emanuel Henry, living two miles north
of town, died Tuesday night. She was born
in Glandorf, Putnam County, Ohio, April 7, 1869. In 1877 she came with her
family to this township where she resided until her death. Less than a year ago
she married Emanuel Henry. But for a moment she was permitted to clasp to her
breast the little daughter . The
little daughter will live perhaps. Funeral today from

Henry Caroline E, daughter of William and Martha Hunter, was born the 9th
day of Sept., 1836, near Steubenville, Jefferson County, Ohio, Ohio; died
the 26th of Jan. 1916, aged 79 years, four months and 17 days. The family moved to W. Va. when she was a small child, where she was
married to John Wesley Henry, Oct. 3, 1855. They had eleven
children. In the spring of 1865 she with her husband moved to Indiana and
settled on a farm just east of Avilla where they resided until a few years prior
to the death of Mr. Henry (which occurred April 18, 1913) when they retired from
the farm and moved to Avilla. Four children survive; Mrs. Frank Bixler of
Kendallville, Emanuel Monroe Henry of this place, John Wesley Jr., and Isaac
Newton Henry of Kendallville. There are 25 grandchildren. She united
with the Presbyterian Church in W. Va. in 1858 and moved her membership to
Hopewell upon arrival in this state. Funeral at the home Saturday.

retiring in 1982. He was pro golfer Fuzzy Zoeller's coach during Zoeller's
high school career. Surviving are his wife, the former Dorthea Harper; 3
sons; 2 sisters, Vesta Henry of Kendallville, and Helen Palmer of Montana.

Henry John D, 56, 518 Dowling St., died Monday at his
residence. Born Aug. 8, 1926 in Kendallville, he was the son of Glen and Genevieve
(Libey) Henry. He was a farmer and truck driver. He was a member of the
Kendallville VFW and American Legion. Survivors include his mother in
Kendallville; two sons, Michael J. and Scott, both Kendallville; a
daughter, Sister Jennifer of Park Forest, Ill.; a brother, George B. of Auburn;

Henry John W, 68, died Wednesday in Lake Worth, Fla., of a heart attack.
Born Jan. 31, 1906, he was the son of Isaac and Sylvia (Gloyd) Henry. He married
Alice Hall. A former resident of the Ligonier and Lake Wawasee area, he was
owner and operator of the Henry Jewelry Store in Ligonier until his retirement
three years ago. He was a member of the Ligonier United Methodist Church,
Ligonier Rotary Club and Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs.
Shirley H. Oldham, Bloomington; two sisters, Miss Vesta of Kendallville, and
Mrs. Helen Palmer, Crown Point; one brother, Floyd, New Albany; and two

Henry Lydia, 77, a native of Noble County and a former Avilla resident,
died Sunday in the Alfran Nursing Home, near Pierceton. She was
the widow of John W. Henry. Services were Tuesday at the A. J. Berhalter Funeral
Home in Kendallville. Burial was in the Avilla Cemetery. She was a member of the

Henry Martha, for many years a resident of Green Twp, died at her home in
that township Thursday. She was the widow of Thompson Henry who died in
Tennessee some years ago, during the temporary residence there of the family.

Henry Michael, 61, of Kendallville died on Jan. 18, 2011, at his home.
He was born in Kendallville on May 25, 1949, to John D. and Phyllis L. (Skiles)
Henry. He is a graduate of Ivy Tech in Fort Wayne.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam Conflict.
He worked for Noble County Co-Op in Albion for 13 years and then worked
for 20 years at Copperfield in Avilla until 2008.
He was a member of the Kendallville VFW Post 2749. Survivors
include his wife, Paula Henry of Kendallville; four daughters, Melissa Henry of
Kendallville, Melinda L. and John Delashmit of Waterloo, Miranda Vice of Auburn
and Mistia Henry of Kendallville; one son, Michael Henry of Kendallville; 10
grandchildren, Destiny Collins, Elijah Delashmit, Shon Henry, Cassy Henry, Jack
Henry, Autumn Vice, Raven Amburgey, Isaac Amburgey, Aryanna Rodenbeck and
Madison Howey; his mother, Phyllis L. Nichols of Kendallville; four sisters,
Sister Jennifer Henry of Mishawaka, Deborah and Kim Shoup of Angola, Andrea
Brand of Kendallville and Mary and Steve Herendeen of Kendallville; three
brothers, Daniel and Jozy Nichols of Fort Wayne, Christopher Nichols of Auburn
and Scott Henry of Avilla. He was
preceded in death by his father. Memorial
service Jan. 21 at Vinyard Christian Fellowship in Rome City.

weeks ago she was taken with diphtheria. She died Monday at an age of 4 years,

Henry Richrd A, 68, of Rome City, died August 29, 2013. He
retired from the U.S. Navy after 30 years. He served during the Vietnam
era. He was a member of Kendallville VFW Post 2749 and DAV Post 19 in
Elkhart. He was born June 15, 1945, in Kendallville to Carney I. and Alma
F. Henry. Surviving are a daughter Marissa (Jim) O’Sullivan of Woodway,
Texas; 2 sons, Anthony “Tony” Henry of Big Pine Key, Florida, and William
“Bill” Henry of Kendallville; 8 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Henry Robert dropped dead from heart disease last
Thursday. He had been farming the Bender place and on his way home for dinner
fell from his wagon lifeless beside the road. He was born in Jefferson County,
Ohio, March 9, 1840. At the age of 7 years he moved with his parents to Wood
County, W. Va., where he resided until 1861. At the outbreak of the Civil War he
enlisted in Co. I., 11th Regiment, West Virginia Volunteers. After
the terrific battle of Gettysburg, Companies A and E were consolidated and Mr.
Henry was promoted to the rank of sergeant which he held until the close of the
war. He received an honorable discharge July 3, 1865. A few weeks later he came
with his parents to Indiana, settling upon the farm where he resided until his
death, August 11, 1898, aged 58 years, 5 months, 2 days. He married Cornelia
Roginson, who, with one son and three daughters, survive. He has three brothers and three sisters living. He was a member of Nelson
Post, G.A.R. and Avilla Lodge No. 460 F & AM. The funeral was held at the
M.E. Church Saturday. Burial, King Cemetery. ~ 8-18-1898
Henry Sophia, widow of the late G. S. Henry, died at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. A. C. Shambaugh, on Main St. Tuesday, aged 81
years, three months and one day. A hemorrhage caused death. She is survived by
the following sons and daughters, J. M., Fort Wayne, J. L., Ligonier, Robert,
Kendallville, Mrs. Shambaugh, Avilla, Mrs. H. E. Gettle, Garrett, and Mrs. H. L.
Askew, Fort Wayne. Funeral will be Thursday afternoon at the Methodist Church.
She was born in Wood County, W. Va., Aug. 4, 1831 and died at Avilla Nov. 5, 1912, aged 81 years, three months and one day. Her parents
were born in Edinburgh, Scotland and resided there until after their
marriage. Of Scotch parentage, her maiden name was McKenzie. She married Gabriel S. Henry, who preceded her in death by ten years. She was
the youngest of nine children and the last to die. She and her husband
came to Indiana in the fall of 1865, settling upon a farm one and a half miles
east of Avilla, and in 1882 they moved to Avilla. They had eight
children, two of whom preceded her in death. She was raised a Presbyterian,
changing later to the Baptist Church, then in 1865 when she and her husband came
to Noble County, they united with the Protestant Methodist Church. Burial,

Henry Vesta F, 94, died Monday in Kendallville Manor HealthCare
Center. She was born in Kendallville Jan. 2, 1904 to Isaac and Sylvia (Gloyd) Henry. She was a bookkeeper for Byer Brothers Wholesale Grocers
for 50 years and a member of First Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post 86
Auxiliary, Kendallville BPW Club, Noble 122 OES and McCray Hospital
Auxiliary. Surviving are a sister, Helen Palmer of Kendallville and
Kalispell, Mont.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in
death by a sister and 4 brothers. Funeral Thursday in Hite Funeral

Henry Wendel, Loren, Bryant and Kaylee: Melissa (Newman) Henry, a
1977 East Noble High School graduate, lost her husband Wendel, son Bryant,
daughter Loren, and granddaughter, Kaylee in a crash on Interstate 55 outside of
Jackson, Miss. at 3:30 a.m. Thursday. She is the daughter of Max and June
Newman of rural Kendallville and the sister of Vickie Tuffley of Kendallville,
Judy Huesner of Fort Wayne and Max Newman Jr. of rural Kendallville.
Wendel C. Henry, 46, Loren Renee, 18, Bryant, 16, and Kaylee, 3, all of
Patterson, La., died after their vehicle was struck by an 18-wheeler, according
to Yazoo County Coroner, Ricky Shivers. The family was en route to the New
Orleans airport after visiting family out of state. The mother, Melissa
Henry, had flown in order to spend more time with her out-of-state family
members. The Henry family who drove had pulled off I-55 in Yazoo County
after hitting a deer. When they pulled back on the highway they collided
with the 18-wheeler. All were pronounced dead at the scene. Melissa
Henry is a sixth-grade teacher. Services were Monday at St. Joseph's
Catholic Church, Patterson, La., where Bryant was preparing to be
confirmed. Wendel and Bryant planned to go on a church mission trip to

Henry William Frank was engaged at work on the spire of the new St. Mary’s
Church at Fort Wayne as a carpenter. He and his foreman were descending on the
inside of the tower, and in some manner Frank lost his balance and fell to the
floor, a distance of one hundred and thirty feet. The terrible fall fractured
his skull in three places. He was removed to the hospital at once and medical
aid summoned. Notwithstanding the extent of his injuries he remained conscious
until almost the last. Everything possible was done for him by kind hands, but
in vain. Divine Providence willed otherwise and on Friday, he died. He was born in Noble County, November 7, 1868; died in the
city of Fort Wayne, August 5, 1887, aged 18 years, 8 months and 28 days. * 1887
Hensinger Larry O, 29, Garrett, died in an industrial accident of cyanide
poisoning at Bastian Plating, Auburn, June 28. He was born March 12, 1959 in
Santa Ana, Calif. to Robert G. and Roberta (Eakle) Hensinger. He was a U. S.
Army veteran, member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Auburn, and Sons of the
American Legion. Surviving are his parents,; three brothers (three brothers
not named), which includes David Denes of Garrett, Susan Geiger, Huntertown
and Denice Burniston, Garrett. Services Saturday in McKee-Miles Funeral

Hensley Uffie E, 84, of Cromwell, died Feb. 7, 2006 at Goshen
Hospital. She attended Cromwell United Methodist Church. She was
born Feb. 2, 1922 in Monticello, Ky. to Elish and Becky (Spradlin) Watson.
She married Virgil M. Hensley. He died in 1976. Surviving are 2 sons
and a daughter-in-law, Ralph of Mt. Vernon, Ky., and Doyle and Gwen of Cromwell;
a daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Bob Ott of Cromwell; 4 sisters, Lula King of
Port Charlotte, Fla., Emmie Peck of Niceville, Fla., Wanda Martsoft of North
Webster and Eva Sharp of Monticello, Ky.; 11 grandchildren and 5
great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Doris
Gates; 3 brothers, Clifford, Jody and Reese; 4 sisters, Connie, Artie, Voldi and
Lucy; one grandchild and one great-grandchild. Graveside services Friday

Hensley Virgil, 64, R. 1, died Thursday in Goshen General
Hospital. He was retired from Sprunger Brothers in Ligonier and had moved here
20 years ago from Dayton, Ohio. Born Sept. 20, 1911 in Moodysville, Tenn. to
Palo and Mattie (Little) Hensley, he married Uffie E. Spradlin Aug. 13, 1938 in
Tenn. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Doris K. Wilson, Ligonier,
and Mrs. Lois Mabee, Merriam; two sons, Ralph D., Ohio, and Glen D., Cromwell;
two brothers, Elmer and Willis of Birdstown, Tenn.; and nine grandchildren.

Henson Nicholas Adam, 22, died Oct. 18, 2004 at Parkview Hospital in Fort
Wayne from injuries he sustained in a van-train accident Sunday in
Ligonier. He was a machinist. He was born April 28, 1982 in
Kendallville. His father, Jeffrey Henson, survives in Cromwell; his mother
and stepfather, Sharon and Steve Warstler in Butler; a brother Nathan in Albion;
a half-sister, Kimbre Siebert in Kendallville; a stepbrother; and grandparents,
Mary and Bill Stump of Sebring, Fla. He was preceded in death by
grandparents, Rose and Oscar Henson. Services Thursday at Brazzell Funeral

Henson Oscar T, 79, 500 Water St., died Saturday in McCray
Hospital. He was born Nov. 27, 1908 in Ligon, Ky., the son of F. D. and Martha
(Cole) Henson. On Feb. 17, 1950 in Paintsville, Ky., he married Rose M. Hatton.
He moved to Noble County from South Bend in 1950. He had been a coal miner and
construction worker for Roy Munsford Co. in South Bend before his retirement. He
attended Salem Community Baptist Church in Ligonier. Surviving are his wife;
three sons, James of Ligon, Ky., Ronald of Columbus, Ohio, and Jeffrey of
Ligonier; a sister, Rosie Newsom of Sawyersville, Ky.; 14 grandchildren; 16
great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. A son, two brothers
and two sisters preceded him in death. Services Tuesday in Salem

Henson Rose M, 86, died Jan. 12, 2000 in Ligonier. She was born
Aug. 29, 1913 in Caney, Ky., to Ben and Victoria (Blair) Hatton. On Feb.
17, 1950 she married Oscar Henson in Paintsville, Ky. He died April 2,
1988. She had been employed at Ligonier Rubber Co. and attended Salem
Community Baptist Church. Surviving are a son, Jeffrey of Cromwell; a
stepson; 2 grandsons and a granddaughter. Seven brothers preceded her in
death. Services Friday in Orr Funeral Home. Burial, Sparta

Henton Carolyn died May 26 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Born near
Kendallville June 8, 1912, she was the daughter of F. M. and Mae (Adams) Aungst.
Survivors are a daughter, Chris Kuehn; and a granddaughter, Claire Kuehn, both
of Corpus Christi; a brother, Robert of Addison, Mich.; a sister, Sarah Parker
of Albion. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean; a son, Dean Jr., four
brothers and two sisters. Funeral today in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church,

Hentzell Millard P, 86, formerly of Syracuse, died Oct. 21
at the Americana Nursing Home in Wabash. He was born in Cromwell Nov. 1, 1889, a
son of Benjamin F. and Sarah (Lantz) Hentzell. He was a machinist and draftsman
and lived in Syracuse for many years prior to his illness. A veteran of WW I, he
was a member of the American Legion. Surviving are a sister, Marie McFarren, New
Paris; a brother, Charles, Milwaukee, Wis. Three brothers and three sisters
preceded him in death. Funeral Saturday at Harris Funeral Home, Syracuse.
