Flint Simeon was born in Danville, province of Quebec, Canada, Aug. 2, 1829 and was 64 years, 6 months and 18 days of age at the time of his death. Left at the early age of 13 years without a mother, he was soon obliged to leave his father’s home by the coming of a stepmother who could find no place in her heart for the poor, motherless boy. He stood it as long as he could, and then determined to leave, and with all his personal belongings tied in a little bundle and a few cents in his pocket, he started out in the world. His objective point was Lowell, Mass., but it took him some six months to reach that place as he had to work his way, but with that perseverance which has always been one of his characteristics he reached that place. After spending two or three years at various occupations, he went to Boston and enlisted in the U. S. Navy and went on a three-years’ cruise, most of the time being spent along the coast of Africa. Returning at the end of three years, he had had enough of the sea and returned to Lowell. He was now 21 years old and determined to learn a trade, and the next three years of his life were spent at the lathe. In August 1853, he was married to Caroline J. Wadleigh of Lowell, and in December of the same year she died and he once more left Lowell and returned to Canada where he remained with his father and two married sisters until the following June, 1854. He once more left Canada and came west to Chicago. Failing to find work there he came east as far as Norwalk, O., and found a situation with the firm of Baker & Co., and it was there he met his lifelong partner, Mr. Walling; and it was then the friendship was formed which has never been broken only by his death. April 16, 1861 he was married a second time, to Jennie Paul of Defiance, and they commenced their married life in Norwalk where he held a situation in the L. S. & M. S. shops. In 1866 he, in company with Mr. Walling, came to Kendallville, and they purchased an interest in the firm name of W. M. Hildreth & Co. His career from that time until his death is known to everyone in this town and county. His funeral services were held at the late residence March 18. Flint & Walling employees attended the funeral in a body and preceded the funeral procession as it went to Lake View. + & >No date ^ 3-23-1894

Fly Wesley, claiming California as his home, through correspondence came to this city and married Mrs. Henke early last spring. She was a widow lady residing with a number of small children on N. Railroad St. The union seemed to be a very happy one and for a few months all was well. But as time passed, the husband was charged by the family as being cruel and making threats unbecoming the head of a family and the matter finally came up in the mayor's court a few weeks ago, but the charges could not be sustained and the spouse was discharged. Everything passed off smoothly until Tuesday, when Mrs. Henke, who was visiting at the home of friends north of the city, was informed by one of the children, who had gone to tell her that if she wanted to see her husband alive she should hasten home as he was lying in the woodshed and had taken a large dose of poison. This proved to be untrue as the couple were up street Wed. evening. During the night the husband became sick and Dr. W. S. Williams was called, but upon his arrival found that death had relieved his sufferings which were said to have resulted from heart disease. Coroner Mitchell was informed and held an inquest but has not rendered his verdict. The cause of death was probably suicide. A telegram was received from Calif. friends yesterday, requesting tht his remains be interred here. Kendallville Standard 9-18-1896 Conributed by Judy Richter
