Faber Gertrude E, 86, died Dec. 4 in McCray Hospital. She was born in Evanston, Ill. April 13, 1900, the daughter of Michael and Susan (Didier) Faber. She had lived in the area five years, moving from Colorado where she had been a bank teller. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and was active in Harvest House. Surviving are four sisters, Regina Hazel and Sr. Pierre Faber, Chicago, Veronica Konty of Albuquerque, N.M., and Betsy O’Brien, Kendallville; three brothers, Peter Faber, Kimberley, Mo., Msgr. William of Kendallville, and Nicholas of Elk Grove, Ill. Services Saturday in Immaculate Conception Church, Kendallville. Burial, St. Mary’s Cemetery. ~ 12-11-1986
Fagler Silas
, 35, a DeKalb County farmer, living north of Garrett, committed suicide by hanging himself to a rafter in his stable. No cause is assigned. ~ 10-15-1891
Fahl Benjamin was born in Canada Dec. 6, 1839 and died at his home in Wolf Lake July 3, 1919, aged 79 years, 6 months and 27 days. He was the son of Andrew and Nancy Fahl and had two brothers and four sisters, all of whom with the parents preceded him in death. When only six months old his family came to Indiana and settled in Elkhart County. On February 4, 1869 he was married to Cathern Ann Rose, with whom he lived until her death Aug. 14, 1914. They had four children, Delta and Genevieve at home, Mrs. Cora Piper of Ormas, and Deloss of near Columbia City, also five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In 1878 he with the wife joined the Free Will Baptist Church at Ormas, afterwards transferring their membership to Wolf Lake, where he remained a member until his death. + 7-?-1919
Failor Maude, 46, died at her home in Kendallville Saturday, death resulting from a heart attack and influenza. She was owner and proprietor of the Elite Dressmaking Shoppe on S. Main St. Surviving are the mother, Mrs. Cora Failor; one sister and one brother, Mrs. W. B. Libey and R. P. Failor, all of Kendallville. Funeral Monday from the late home. Fair Abner, 86, a resident here the past 45 years, died at his home in Burr Oak. He had been manager of the Co-Operative Association many years until he retired 10 years ago. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Lincoln Lilly and Mrs. Horace Coler; brother, Aden; and two sisters, Mrs. Myrtie Moffett and Mrs. Blanche Berry. Funeral was Tuesday at Burr Oak Methodist Church. Fair Cain W was born in Orange County, Ind., Sept. 7, 1901 and died at home one mile east of Burr Oak, Mich. Nov. 30, 1921, aged twenty years, ?? months and 23 days. He was the youngest of a family of three children, and with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Abner Fair, moved from Indiana to their present farm home when he was five years of age, he being the only son. At the age of nine years he was stricken with infantile paralysis from which he never fully recovered. He leaves a father and mother; two sisters, Mrs. Muriel Lilly of Burr Oak, and Mrs. Ruby Coler of Bronson. He was a member of the Woodman Lodge of Burr Oak. Fair Catherine, 77, died Thursday at her home of an apparent heart attack. She was born Sept. 8, 1906 in Kendallville to William and Jennie (Sawyer) Jackson. She was married Jan. 26, 1926 in LaGrange County to Millard Fair, who preceded her in death. She had been employed at LaGrange Hospital. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Bern (Jennie) Miller of LaGrange, Mrs. Daniel (Kathleen) Faust of Fort Wayne, Mrs. William (Betty Lou) Ramer of Shipshewana and Mrs. Dallas (Patricia) Blankenship of Bryan, Ohio; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Fair Gladys H, 96, died Tuesday in St. Joseph Medical Center. A LaOtto native, she moved to Fort Wayne in 1923 and was a homemaker. Her husband, Cleon, preceded her in death in 1932. Fair Jack L, 66, died March 5 in St. Joseph Medical Center, Fort Wayne. Born in LaOtto, he retired in 1985 after 43 years at ITT Aerospace Optical Division and lived most of his life in Fort Wayne. He was a WW II Army veteran. Surviving are his wife, Mary; two sons, Joseph and Timothy, Fort Wayne; three daughters, Kathleen Stolte, Diane Spaulding and Suzanne Schmidt, Fort Wayne; his mother, Gladys of Fort Wayne; a sister, Betty Enigner of Lebanon, Ohio; and 13 grandchildren. Fair Jennie, 88, a resident here since 1922, died Thursday at her home, 210 Henry St. in Burr Oak. She was born in Mongo, Ind., Jan. 17, 1869, a daughter of William and Susanna (Hartranft) Schultz. She was married to Abner Fair Aug. 12, 1888 in LaGrange County and the couple resided on the farm east of Burr Oak until they moved to the village 34 years ago. He died a number of years ago. She was a member of the Methodist Church here, the WSCS, the WCTU, the Martha Club, Home Club, and a charter member of the Royal Neighbors. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Muriel Lilly of Sturgis and Mrs. Ruby Coler of near Bronson; and her sister, Mrs. Anna Ivens. Surviving also are seven grandchildren, Kenneth Coler of Bronson, David Coler of Orland, Ind., Mrs. Genevieve Hartup of Bronson, Mrs. Robert Reed of Burr Oak, and Wayne Lilly, Mrs. Paul Lampe and Mrs. Irene Mercer, all of Sturgis; and 14 great-grandchildren. Fair Ruth Homsher, 70, died Thursday at St. Joe Medical Center in Fort Wayne. She was born July 15, 1919 to Thomas and Cora (Franks) Stigner in Wawaka. She married George R. Homsher in 1943. He died Dec. 19, 1978. Her second husband, Wilford Fair, died in 1981. A longtime resident of Kendallville, she worked as a nurse’s aid for 15 years at McCray Hospital and for the last eight years she was a volunteer there. She was a member of National Campers & Hikers Club and Trinity Church United Methodist. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Terry (Jean) Becker of Rome City, and Mrs. Richard (Amy) Christian, of Conrow, Texas; one son, John R. Homsher of Orlando, Fla.; one brother-in-law, Paul Homsher of St. Louis, Mo.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services Sunday at Berhalter-Hutchins Funeral Home. Fair Sarah Jane, about 95, (b. 10-13-1850) died June 29, 1946 at her Wolf Lake home. She is survived by seven daughters and son, B. R. Fair of Terre Haute, Miss Hallie at home, Mrs. V. Verhage and Mrs. M. Kristalyn of Kalamazoo, Mich., Mrs. Voil Manier of Detroit, Mrs. Elizabeth Hopkins of Chicago, Mrs. Jessie Gerred of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mrs. W. S. Fairbanks George, 82, a retired farmer, died last Thursday at his farm just north of Fairbank’s Corners from complications and Bright’s disease. He retired from active farming several years ago and has, since, lived on this farm three miles north of this city. He was born in Geauga County, Ohio, January 12, 1846, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel C. Fairbanks, who moved to Noble County when George was but a few months of age. He grew to manhood in the Fairbanks Corner neighborhood and attended such schools as the times afforded. Later he completed a course at Hiram College in Ohio, but he chose farming as his life occupation. On November 23, 1875 he married Clara Jane Baughman, daughter of the late Grafton F. Baughman, who was a county official. For the past 53 years, Mr. and Mrs. Fairbanks lived on the farm where he died. During his younger years, he became affiliated with Kendallville Lodge No. 276 A. U A.M. and with Chapter No. 64 Royal Arch Masons. He was also a member of the Methodist Church of Avilla. Surviving are the wife, four daughters: Mrs. David Shanline of Avilla, Mrs. Rolland Whitford of near Kendallville, Miss Bessie B. Fairbanks of Wichita Falls, Tex., and Mrs. Orlo H. Imes, west of Kendallville; one sister, Mrs. Emma Barton who resided at the Fairbanks home; a niece, Mrs. Fred L. Bodenhafer; and a grandson, Ralph Shanlin of Kendallville. Fairbanks Margaret E, died at her home in Allen Twp Dec. 2, aged 61 years, 2 months, of peritonitis. She was born in St. Lawrence County, N.Y. Oct. 3, 1824; married Samuel C. Fairbanks Aug. 29, 1844 in Geauga County, Ohio; came to Allen Twp in 1846 where she lived until her death. She leaves a husband and 3 children, all grown. Funeral at the residence. Fairbanks Samuel C, 79, an old resident of Allen Twp, died at his home there Saturday. Funeral was Tuesday from the residence. Burial, Lake View Cemetery. He came to Allen Twp from Geauga County, Ohio in 1846 where he resided continually until his death. His wife died ten or twelve years ago. Mr. Fairbanks and Senator C. W. Fairbanks of this state were members of the Fairbanks families who settled in Ohio in an early day. ^ 1-18-1901
Fairchild Glenna, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Shrock, was born in Ligonier Feb. 2, 1883 and died March 13, 1913, 30 years, 2 months and 11 days. She married William Fairchild of Shepherd, Mich. Aug. 31, 1918. They had 2 children, Virgil, aged 3 years, and Duane, 2 years old. She joined the Seventh Day Adventist Church when about 14. Falesnik Althea R, 88, of Kendallville, died November 9, 2013 at Lutheran Life Villages. She was born in Kendallville on November 6, 1925 to Ray and Clora (Becker) Zinn. She graduated from Avilla High School in 1944 and married Glenn Lee Knapp on November 28, 1946 in Kendallville and he died May 31, 1972. She later married Martin Falesnik on May 9, 1977 and he died April 19, 1985. She worked for Monsanto in Ligonier and Flint & Walling in Kendallville and she was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Kendallville. Survivors include 2 daughters, Doreen Miller of Topeka and Clora and James Polly of Wawaka; 2 sons, Tim and Kathy Knapp of Goshen and Dave and Melanie Knapp of Murphysboro, Tennessee; 6 grandchildren, Karen Edwards, Christina Ferrin of Mongo, Laura Marshall, Michael Knapp of Greenfield, Sherri Smart and Tara Hagerman of Topeka; 16 great-grandchildren and one-great-great granddaughter; and a sister, Shirley and Darrell “Skip” Traster of Kendallville. Falsenik Martin J, 70, 125 Conlogue Ave., died Friday in his home. A resident of Kendallville for eight years, he was born March 6, 1915 in Zervinack, Czechoslovakia. He was married to Althea Knapp of Kendallville. He previously lived in Milwaukee, Wis. Surviving are his wife; three sons, Thomas, Theodore and Martin Jay; and two daughters, Judith Schultz and Sarah Faulkner, all of Milwaukee; two stepsons, Dave Knapp and Tim Knapp of Rome City; and two stepdaughters, Doreen Miller of Rome City and Clora Polly of Topeka; four brothers, John of Panwood, Mich., Frank of Minn., Anthony of Orlando, Fla., and Albert of San Francisco, Calif.; three grandchildren. Fannin Virgil R, 75, of Kendallville, died Aug. 22, 2009 at his residence. He had worked at Lane Foundry in Lisbon for 33 years and Tenneco Mfg. in Ligonier for 12 years. He was born June 3, 1934 in Drift, Kentucky to James and Florence (Smith) Fannin. On Feb. 1, 1956 in Kendallville he married Wanda Hunter. Surviving are his wife; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and James Parks of Avilla and Angela and Pat Rudolph of Kendallville; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Irvin Fannin of Flagstaff, Ariz. He was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Sandra Warrix in Feb. 2006, and Connie Slone in July 2006; 3 brothers and one sister. Funeral Wednesday in Young Family Funeral Home. Fanning Wildus, 77, the mother of Mrs. June Mark and widow of Dale Fanning, died Sunday at the Cameron Hospital at Angola. She died of heart failure. She had been a resident of the Angola area all her life. Surviving in addition to Mrs. Mark are one son, Robert, and four other daughters, Marcella, Maxine, Phyllis and Mary. Farmer Bernice E, 84, LaOtto, died Oct. 26 in Miller’s Merry Manor, Garrett. She was a clerk at the LaOtto Post Office for nearly 15 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in LaOtto, Huntertown and Churubusco OES and Swanettes Extension Homemakers Club. She had lived in LaOtto since 1930. She was born Feb. 6, 1911 in Wood County, Ohio, to the late John and Florence Bell (Stacy) Edgar. She married Charles E. Farmer on Dec. 24, 1927 in Weston, Ohio. He died Jan.15, 1973. Surviving are 2 sons, Charles E. Jr. of Kendallville and Roger of Fort Wayne; one daughter, Elaine (Mrs. Charles) Bowers of Westville, Ohio; 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Farmer Bert, 77, was found dead June 29 at his home in LaOtto. Death was caused by a heart attack. He had retired in 1954 after working for the Pennsylvania Railroad for 34 years. Surviving are three sisters. Services Saturday in Churubusco. Burial, Eel River Cemetery. ~ 7-6-1961
Farmer Carl E died of a coronary thromboses at Weathers Field, Essex, England, where he was stationed with the Air Force. A native of LaOtto, he had been in the Air Force 15 years. He is survived by the widow, the former Mary Houser of Fort Wayne; two sons, two daughters; four brothers, including Charles of LaOtto and Glenn of Auburn, and four sisters, including Mrs. Mary Walters of Auburn. The body is to be returned to Fort Wayne for services and burial. ~ 10-6-1960
Farmer Charles E, 65, was the son of Andrew and Lida LaFevor Farmer of Noble County. He was married in 1927 to Bernice Edgar, and the couple always lived in LaOtto. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 689 and Eastern Star, both at Huntertown, as well as Emmanuel Lutheran Church of LaOtto. An International Harvester employee who retired in 1956, he died Jan. 15 at Parkview Hospital. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Charles Jr., and Roger, both of Fort Wayne; one daughter, Mrs. Charles Bowers of Fort Wayne; two brothers, Clifford of Otsego, Mich., and Gene of Auburn; eight grandchildren and four sisters, Mrs. Ella Wilson of Owensboro, Ky., Mrs. Evelyn Sorensen of Santa Ana, Calif., Mrs. Virginia Archer of Hobart, and Mrs. Mary Walter of Auburn. Farmer Charles E, 85, of Kendallville, died Sept. 3, 2013, in Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired in 1981 after 36 years with International Harvester Corp./Navistar in Fort Wayne. He was a member of the Kendallville Masonic Lodge 276 for 55 years and of Kendallville VFW Post 2749. He was born July 5, 1928, in Weston, Ohio, to Charles and Bernice (Edgar) Farmer. On June 16, 1951, in Churubusco, he married Phyllis Hazen. Surviving are his wife; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Janet Farmer of Auburn and Randall and Brenda Farmer of Kendallville; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Roger Farmer of Fort Wayne; and a sister, Elaine Bowers of Fort Wayne. Farmer Zola E, 80, Garrett, died Thursday in McCray Hospital. She was born July 2, 1908 in Earle, Ark., the daughter of Ed and Ellen Tatum. She had three husbands, Guy Lackey, Walter Bright and Art Farmer. All preceded her in death. Surviving are a son, John Lackey, Avilla; two daughters, Floetta Rhodes, Avilla, and Nola Bender, Loganville, Ga.; a sister, Lila White, Hot Springs, Ark.; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Farr Gary H (Flutz), 21, husband of the former Jerrilynn Morr, died Tuesday en route from Paducah, Ky. to a Lexington hospital. He had been ill two years with a kidney ailment. He was born March 28, 1951 in Indianapolis to Glen and Harriet Flutz and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Paducah where they resided. He was a graduate of Tighlman High School in Paducah and attended the University of Evansville and the University of Kentucky. He is survived by the wife, whom he married Aug. 14, 1971 in Trinity United Methodist Church in Albion; his mother and stepfather, Harriet and William Farr; two sisters and three brothers. Farrah Jane (Bolton) was born the 26th of Dec. 1827 at Newcastle, England and finished her pilgrimage at Ebenezer, N.Y., April 21, 1912, age 84 years, 3 months and 25 days. At the age of six years she immigrated to America, landing in Quebec, Canada. Eleven years later they located at Brockville, Ontario, and later went to New York. She united with the church at the age of twenty years. Five years later she moved to Wis., where she was married to Webster Farrah in 1854. They had two sons, both dying early childhood, Edwin at the age of eleven years, and Adelbert at the age of five. She came with her husband to Defiance County, Ohio, in the early settlers’ days and endured all the hardships and privations of pioneer life. She was bereaved of her husband June 12, 1892, and in the fall of the same year moved to Avilla, which was her home for ten years. In 1903 she suffered an affliction in the loss of one eye. At her request her remains were laid to rest by the side of her husband and children in the Webster Cemetery on the banks of the St. Joe River. She leaves three brothers. Farren Kimberly, 51, of Garrett, died Sept. 10, 2010 at the Visitng Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. She was born in Kendallville on May 16, 1959 to Sanders and Bonnie (McCann) Temple. She graduated from East Noble High School in 1977 and attended Ivy Tech. She married Mark Farren on Aug. 28, 2010 in the chapel at Parkview Hospital. She was employed as the clerk-treasurer for the City of Kendallville for 17 years, LaGrange County prosecutor's office for about 2 years and was currently the deputy clerk-treasurer for City of Garrett. Survivors include her husband; a son, Dustin Forker, and a daughter, Kelsey Forker, of Kendallville, 2 stepchildren; 2 sisters, Kris Davidson and Annette and Terry Donat of Kendallville; a bother, Kirk and Krystal Temple of Kendallville. Farrington Charles D, 73, Rome City, a resident of Fort Wayne 50 years before he moved to Rome City, died Wednesday in Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital. He was born in Kenton, Ohio. Retired from Hefner Chevrolet, he was owner of Allen Sales, Inc., Fort Wayne from 1938 to 1951. He was a member of Elks Lodge 155. Faulkner Charles U, 77, of Wawaka, died Thursday at McCray Hospital of apoplexy. Born Dec. 4, 1865 near Fort Wayne, he was the son of Elijah and Hattie Faulkner. He had resided the greater part of the past 37 years at Wawaka, having moved there from the Bourbon and Bremen communities where the family resided a number of years. He was married in 1895 to Ida Mae King of Marshall County, and they had 11 children, eight of whom survive. Faulkner Donald E, 82, of Wolcottville, died April 15, 2011 in Avalon Village, Ligonier. He was a member of IBEW Local Union 305 in Fort Wayne. He retired as an electrician journeyman, working in construction. He was born Aug. 1, 1928, in Wawaka to Lester F. and Alma (Dukes) Faulkner. On Nov. 3, 1946, in Wawaka he married Marie Lou Krotzer. Faulkner Jean E, 71, Corunna, died March 2, 2000 at McCray Hospital, Kendallville. She had been employed at the former Kroger Store in Auburn. Fausnaugh Alden “Doc”, 75, of Ligonier, died December 7, 2010, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was born March 6, 1935, to Arthur C “Fuzz” and Mildred J. “Pete” (Moore) Fausnaugh in Sparta Twp. On October 11, 1958, he married Nancy S. Miller in Kimmell. He served in the Indiana National Guard for 31 years. He had owned and operated Doc’s Hardware in Cromwell as well as Tri-County Servicesoft. He also had worked for Kreager Brothers for 12 years and the Armory for five years before retiring. He attended the Cosperville Baptist Church and was a member of Cromwell Masonic Lodge and the Cromwell-Kimmell Lions Club. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Thomas W. Fausnaugh Merritt was killed in action during a mission over Berlin on Oct. 6. He entered the service at Goshen and received his training at Seymour, Ind. He went overseas last May and engaged our enemy as a pilot of a B-17 bomber with the Eighth Air Force. He had 27 missions to his credit and had been awarded the Oak Leaf Cluster and a medal for bravery. He spent the early part of his life in Kimmell. He is survived by his wife, the former Wanda Duncan; a four-months old son he had never seen; his father, N. A. Fausnaugh of Goshen; two brothers, Wilford and Delbert of South Bend; and three sisters, Mrs. Janice Newcomer of South Bend, Mrs. Arlene Kilgore of Pierceton, and Mrs. Laverne Phares of Kimmell. Fausnaugh Mildred W, 70, Cromwell, died Friday in Goshen Hospital following a heart attack July 4. Born May 31, 1913 in Cromwell, she was the daughter of Freeman and Harriett (Maggart) Moore. In 1932 she married Arthur (Carroll) Fausnaugh in Mt. Etna. He died in 1972. She was a lifetime resident of Cromwell and worked as an executive at Cromwell State Bank. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Ligonier OES, Cromwell Business Association and Dorcas Society. Fausnaugh Ruth I, 91, of Kimmell died March 2, 2010. She and her husband, the Rev. Bernard Fausnaugh, founded the Full Gospel Lighthouse Tabernacle in Kimmell in 1974. She was born May 2, 1918, in Auburn to John and Floy (Holmes) Griffin. She married Bernard Fausnaugh on January 3, 1946, in Garrett. He died on May 16, 1998. Surviving are two sons, Stanley (Nancy) Fausnaugh of Ligonier and Steven Fausnaugh of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Debra Hanlon of Wawaka; a brother, Harold (Charlene) Griffin of Waterloo; three sisters, Alice (Dan) Whonsetler of Avilla, Pauline (Lawrence) Balliet of Corunna and Patricia Hornet of Auburn; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Faux Frances O, 91, died March 5 in McCray Hospital. She and her twin brother, Frank O. Wirick of Kendallville, were born July 6, 1868, near Avilla to George and Sarah Wirick. At the time of her death, Mrs. Faux and Mr. Wirick were believed to be the oldest twins in this area. She lived all her life in the Avilla and Kendallville areas. She had made her home with a daughter, Mrs. Berniece Foster. She was married December 24, 1893, to Alpheus K. Faux, who died about fifteen years ago. Surviving in addition to Mrs. Foster and Mr. Wirick, are three sons, Charles D., of Avilla, George F., of Corunna, and Paul E. of Kendallville; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. ~ 3-10-1960

Faux Glenn M, 58, Fort Wayne mail carrier for the past 30 years, died October 16, in his home at 2209 S. Calhoun Street, Fort Wayne, following a heart attack. Born in Avilla, he moved to Fort Wayne in 1926 when he became a postal employee. He served with the U. S. Army in France during WW I. He was a member of Christ Methodist Church, American Legion Post 47 and the 40 & 8 Society. Faux Kincade, son of William and Charlotte Faux, was born in Northumberland County, Penn. Jan. 15, 1834; died April 27, 1904, aged 70 years 3 months and 12 days. He, with his friends, moved to Morrow County, Ohio in 1850; was married to Liddy Mellott April 3, 1861. In 1878 he moved his family to Noble County where he spent the rest of his life. He had 4 children, of whom 3 are living, Elnora Hunt, Josie Witmer and Judson. His wife died Jan. 31, 1896. He afterwards married Selina M. Mellott, who with his 3 children, 4 grandchildren, one stepson, one stepdaughter, 2 sisters, Mrs. Henry Furgerson and Mrs. Robert Fulton, remain. Faux Robert Fulten "Bob", 61, who worked for the News-Sun for 17 years, died last Friday in Medford, Oregon. He had made his home in Grants Pass, Ore., since 1947. A native of Ligonier, he had been in the printing business most of his life. He was employed as a printer for the Daily Courier in Grants Pass for 25 years and before that time worked for the News-Sun. Surviving are the widow, M. Favinger Abraham W, son of Jacob and Alvira Favinger, was born in Green Twp, Jan. 25, 1866; and died at his home in Kendallville Dec. 19, 1902, aged 36 years 10 months and 24 days. He spent his boyhood days with his parents on the farm. On Jan. 3, 1891 he married Lydia I. Teegarden and they had two children, both living. He had lived in this community for about 2 years, having made his home in Louisiana for 9 years previous to his coming here. He leaves a wife, 2 boys, father, mother and 4 brothers. Favinger Caroline died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Emma Rosenogle in Green Twp Jan. 31, 1909. She was a daughter of Frederick and Catherine Zeigler, born in Morrow County, Ohio Jan. 23, 1835, and at the time of her demise was aged 74 years and 8 days. She was the last one of a family of ten children. In 1854 when she was a young lady of 19 years, she moved with her parents, brothers and sisters to Indiana in wagons and settled in Noble County, where she continued to reside until her demise. On Oct. 20, 1866 she married John Favinger. She was the mother of two daughters. In early life she united with the Methodist Church at the Mulberry School House. Her husband preceded her in death seven or eight years. He was born in Noble County on March 14, 1892 to William H. and Elnora (Howard) Favinger. He married Zelma A. Henry on Dec. 24, 1916 in Albion. She died in 1977. Favinger John J, 67, originally from Albion, died of a heart attack at Johnson County Memorial Hospital in Franklin Thursday. A resident of Whiteland for the past 45 years, he was employed by the Dept. of Natural Resources as the state’s entomologist. He was a Sagamore of the Wabash and served in the Marines in WW II. He belonged to Whiteland United Methodist Church and was treasurer of Masonic Lodge 746. He received a bachelor of science degree in entomology from Purdue University in 1940 and a master’s in public affairs from Indiana University in 1983. He was born Jan. 7, 1918 in Albion to Grover C. and Velma A. (Henry) Favinger. He is survived by his wife, Thelma J (Drake) Favinger; one sister, Lois E. Eckhart of Kendallville; one daughter, Janet L. Brinkman of Madison; two sons, John D. of Massena, N.Y., and Jeffrey L. of Bloomington; and seven grandchildren. Favinger Mayme Lauretta, 100, of Knox, died Sept. 25, 2005 at Countryside Place Nursing Home in Knox. She had been a clerk in a drug store and was a member of Knox United Methodist Church, Knox OES and the Hospital Guild. She was born Oct. 28, 1904 in Albion to Herman and Lelia (Cockley) Butler. In 1924 she married Charles Enos Solliday and he died in 1949. She then married Don Favinger and he died Jan. 25, 1992. Surviving are a son, Don Solliday of Mt. Ayr, Iowa; a daughter, Helen Solliday of Kendallville, who died 3 days after her mother on Sept. 28; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Favinger William H, 25, died at Souder’s Hospital Oct. 24, 1942 as a result of injuries received Friday when his arm became caught in a belt at the Co-Operative Mills at Auburn. He suffered a fracture of both bones in his left forearm, a fracture of the same arm between the elbow and shoulder, a compound fracture of the great toe of his left foot, and severe shock. Immediate cause of death was given as due to internal hemorrhages. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Favinger of near Kimmell. He is survived by his parents; his wife, Frances; and their six-weeks old daughter, Judith Ann; three sisters, Mrs. Ray McBride of Albion, Mrs. Robert Ott of South Bend, and Elizabeth of Fort Wayne; and one brother, Robert at home. Favinger William H, 75, died at his home on S. Liberty St. March 4, following a stroke of paralysis Feb. 19. He was the son of Jacob and Alvira Favinger, deceased former residents of Green Twp and Albion. Politically he was a Democrat and was twice elected as clerk of the circuit court of Noble County. He was head of Albion Shipping Association and was a regular attendant at various state co-operative shipping association meetings, and was a member of Albion Masonic Lodge. Feightner Guy, 42, son of Mr. And Mrs. W. E. Feightner east of Albion died Jan. 11. The somewhat mangled and frozen body was found along the tracks of the NYC Railroad and near the depot. The body was partially covered with snow which had fallen on Saturday night and it is thought that he was killed by a passing train while the snow was falling as he had not been seen at his home nearby after the time. At one time he was a rural mail carrier out of Albion. He married Veleria Reid in Kendallville Oct. 27, 1927. He was a retired farmer and a 20-year resident of Cromwell, coming from Rome City. Survivors include the wife; a daughter, Mrs. James (Barbara) Hochstetler, Topeka; three sons, Homer and Forrest, Ligonier, and Larry, Topeka; two sisters, Mrs. Avah Rhea and Miss Elmo, both Kendallville; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Feightner Kenneth B, 69, died May 17, 1987 at Meadow Haven Nursing Center, Butler. He was born in Albion Feb. 11, 1918 and on Feb. 24, 1940 in Albion he married Mary E. Ross. They moved to Garrett that year and he was employed there as a foreman by the B&O Railroad, retiring in 1980. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Kenneth F., St. Joe, and Blaine E., Middletown, Md.; one daughter, Mrs. David (Martha) Miller of Garrett; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Feil Henry W Frederick, 83, Knoxville, Tenn., and formerly a Kendallville resident, died Saturday at his residence. Known for his dry humor, he took over as president of the Campbell & Fetter Bank, Kendallville, in 1952 upon the death of Donald M. Campbell. He was among the original 90 stockholders and on the first board of directors. He was also named vice president of the firm in 1949. He retired in 1971. Fekete Marcelle A, 88, of Miami, Florida, and formerly of Avilla and Kendallville, died January 5, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Miami. She was born August 3, 1924, in Paris, France. She immigrated to South Bend, Indiana, in 1946. She lived there until 1997 when she moved to Kendallville, then moved to Avilla in 1999 before moving to Miami to be closer to her family.  She was a member of Our Lady of Hungary Church in South Bend. She and her husband, Joseph, were married in a civil ceremony in Paris, France, in August 1945. They were then married in a church ceremony in Paris, France, in December 22, 1945. Joseph A. Fekete died in July 1999. She is survived by her 4 children, Frances, Bernard, Douglas and Jocelyn; 7 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. , 92, of Kendallville, died July 28, 2013, at Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville. He was born in Geneva, Indiana, on February 13, 1921, to James and Mary (Chrisman) Fenstermaker. He graduated from Geneva High School in 1939. He served in the U.S, Navy during WW II. He married Jeanne Beights on November 10, 1946 in Kendallville. He worked as a postal clerk on the railroad for 8 years and then worked as a rural letter carrier until he retired in 1976. After retirement he worked in real estate with Dave Stout. He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville, the Kendallville American Legion Post 86, VFW Post 2749 and Kiwanis. Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, John (Margo) Fenstermaker of Jerome, Michigan, and William (Debbie) Fenstermaker of Kendallville; a daughter, Becky (Dave) Druetzler of Indianapolis; 6 grandchildren, Jama Green, Jill, Scott, and Trevor Fenstermaker, Jennifer and Dana Druetzler; and 2 great-grandchildren, Natalie and Nora Green. Ferguson Hazel L, 83, widow of Roy Ferguson, died Dec. 13 in Goshen Hospital. She was born Oct. 17, 1887, the daughter of Albert G. and Nettie M. (Burris) Tumbleson in Kosciusko County. She had been a Ligonier resident for the past 30 years. She was married on Aug. 23, 1917 to Roy V. Ferguson. He died in March this year. She was a member of Ligonier Presbyterian Church. Ferguson James died at his Ligonier home yesterday from old age. He was born at Castle Garden, New York, August 18, 1843, the son of Elic Ferguson, who came to this country from Ireland, the mother being a native of Scotland. The elder Ferguson died in the Union Army during the Civil War, the mother's death occurring at Peoria, Ill., in 1846. When a small boy, James Ferguson came to Ligonier from Peoria, Ill., and since the age of 12 has been a resident. Ferguson Jean E, 76, of Ligonier, died June 11, 2001 in Miller's Merry Manor, Syracuse. In Kentucky, she was born May 1, 1925. On Oct. 25, 1952 in Chicago she married Louis Ferguson. He died in 1982. Surviving are a son, James of Cromwell; and a grandchild, Eddie Torrez. A daughter, Wanda, and a sister preceded her in death. Fetter Augustus, 77, prominent Kendallville merchant and resident of that community most of his life, died Friday. He was born July 1868 in DeKalb County and his parents were natives of Germany. He married Alda Cook June 20, 1895. He was president of the Berridge Shear Co. at Sturgis, Mich., and a partner in the firm of Campbell & Co. of Kendallville, and had much to do with the grain and onion business in addition to his mercantile duties. Fetter Faith H, 74, died Wednesday in her home at Garrett, after suffering a heart attack. She was born April 25, 1901 in Newville, the daughter of Vincent and Clara (Meeks) Brunson. She had been a Garrett resident for 55 years. She was married April 21, 1918 in LaGrange to Clayton Fetter. He died July 4, 1966. Fetter Flora E, wife of Jacob C. Fetter, died Sunday at the family home corner of Orchard and W. Mitchell Streets. Cause of death was uremic poisoning. Although born in Auburn, she had spent most of her life in Kendallville, coming here in childhood with her parents. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Amos B. Park, born Aug. 18, 1862. She married Mr. Fetter on Oct. 15, 1891. Surviving are the husband, who is a member of the banking firm of Campbell & Fetter and of Campbell & Co.; one sister, Miss Minnie; and one brother, Frank B., secretary and treasurer of the Flint & Walling Mfg. Fetter Jacob C, banker and onion dealer, was born in 1861 in Richland County, Ohio. In 1864 the family moved to DeKalb County. He taught school for three terms in DeKalb County before accepting a position in a store in Butler where he worked until 1884, when he became a merchant in Kendallville with H. D. Ward. The firm was Ward & Fetter. After the firm was destroyed by fire he formed a partnership with Archy Campbell under the name of Campbell & Co., which proved successful. In 1894 he engaged in banking under the name of Campbell & Fetter. In 1891 he married Flora Park. She died in 1919. He married Anna A. Krueger in 1921, who survived with one sister, Mrs. George Daniels of Lima, Ohio; and three brothers, Augustus of Kendallville, and C. H. and W. M. of Butler. He died at his home in Kendallville Nov. 4 following a stroke of paralysis a few days before. + 11-?-1938

Born Aug. 7, 1900 in LaGrange County, the son of Ephraim and Margaret Fiandt, he was married to Talitha Gehring May 20, 1923. He was a lay leader of the Wayne Center Methodist Church. Prior to going to South Milford many years ago he was employed in Sweet School and Jefferson School but since the opening of the New Milford Twp School four years ago he was employed as a grade school teacher. He also represented the Midwest Feed Company for many years. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Gloria Deetz of near Waterloo, and Mrs. Patnella Fawley of Fort Wayne; three sons, Dallas Jr. of New Orleans, La., Max of Goshen, and Bill of Atlanta; 14 grandchildren; and one brother, C. About the year 1834 she moved with her family from Penn. to Ohio, where she lived until about 7 years ago when she came to Indiana to live with her youngest son, David Fiandt in Milford Twp, LaGrange County. She lived to the age of 95 years, 9 months and 21 days. She had 10 children, 2 of these preceded her; 14 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Fick Martha, 80, president of Crows Nest, Lake Wawasee, Ind., died last Thursday in St. Petersburg, Fla. A lifetime resident of Indiana, she has for the last eight years been spending the winter and springtime in St. Petersburg. She was born at Crows Nest which was founded by her father, Nathaniel Crow, in 1845. Her mother was the former Eliza Airgood, who died about 1900. Her father died in 1912. At the time of her death she was composing an autobiography and history of the Lake Wawasee region. She attended the Kosciusko County public schools, studied music at Lyon & Healy in Chicago, and traveled in Europe. She was married in 1911 to Albert Edward Fick of Goshen. He died in 1921. Field Aaron, a farmer of this township, died Tuesday after a protracted illness of dropsy. He was born in Vermont July 30, 1826, and was 66 years, 4 months and 13 days of age. He came with his parents to Ohio, where he was married July 3, 1851 to Nancy Stray. They had eight children, four of whom are now living. Previous to his marriage, he served one year in the Mexican War, as a member of Co. E, 2nd Illinois V.I., and participated in the battle of Buena Vista. After his marriage he engaged in farming in Ohio until 1852, when he moved to this county, where he has since resided. Funeral at the residence today. Field Ginevra, 73, wife of Forrest E. Field, resident of this city, died at her home, 201 S. Park Ave. after suffering a paralytic stroke. She was born April 8, 1860 at Decatur, the daughter of Samuel and Mary Johnston. About 65 years ago her parents came to Noble County, locating on a farm east of the city. After residing in this community 12 years they moved to Richmond where she married Mr. Field Sept. 26, 1883. They came to Kendallville where he taught school 5 years, and then went to Racine Wis. before returning to this city, at which time he opened a law practice. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Surviving are the husband; a son, Ralph, Chicago; 2 brothers and one sister, O. F. Johnston, Mrs. Ira Leighley, this city; Dr. M. F. She was born April 17, 1905 in LaGrange County to Henry and Rose (Longsworth) Rhodes. On Aug. 7, 1979 she married Willie J. Fields, who preceded her in death. She is survived by 2 daughters, Mary M. and Alice A. Fields, both of Wolcottville, a son, Willis G. Fields of Roosevelt, N.Y.; and a grandson, Phillip A. Fields of Topeka. Fields Vernon L, 60, Fort Wayne, died Saturday at St. Joseph Hospital of injuries received in an automobile accident southwest of Avilla, June 19. Prior to his death he was employed as a janitor at the Indiana Service Corp. For 17 years he was foreman of building and grounds. He was a member of the Rebekahs of Home Lodge No. 418 and the IOOF No. 17 of Tippecanoe, Ind. He is survived by his widow, Marguerite; his mother, Mrs. Amanda Fields, Tippecanoe; two stepchildren, Charles J. Foster, Fort Wayne and Mrs. Mary Easterday of southeast of Avilla; two grandchildren; two brothers, Otis, Fort Wayne and Charles, Tipton, Ohio; and a sister, Mrs. William Gordon, Kalamazoo, Mich. Fields Willis G, 74, of LaGrange, died September 2, 2012, at Miller’s Merry Manor, LaGrange. He was born on August 31, 1938, in Kendallville to Willie J. and Ora A. (Rhoades) Fields. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He attended Goshen College and had worked in a variety of different jobs in Indiana, Arizona and New York. After his retirement, he started transporting the Amish. He received his Certificate of Ordination in Ministry on May 23, 1993. He was survived by one son, Phillip A. Fields of Angola; 2 sisters, Alice Fields of Kendallville and Mary Fields of LaGrange; 2 granddaughters, Nikita and Victoria Fields; and 2 great-grandchildren. Fifer Myrtle H, 79, formerly of Kendallville, died Saturday in Bloomington. Born in Stryker, Ohio, Sept. 25, 1907, she was the daughter of Merton and Cora (Christie) Hill and married William L. "Py" Fifer, who died in 1985. She moved from LaPorte to Kendallville 40 years ago and she and her husband owned Fifer Shoe Store in Kendallville. She was a member of the Mitchell St. United Methodist Church, Kendallville. Surviving are a son, Jack of Bloomington; and three grandchildren. Two sisters preceded her in death. Fifer W Leon, 75, of Kendallville, died Friday in his home. He was born on Jan. 3, 1910 in Bryant, Ind. To James and Blanche Fifer. He was married in Kendallville to Myrtle Hill. He was a former shoe salesman, being the owner of the Fifer Shoe Store in Kendallville and manager of the M&N Shoe Store in Fort Wayne. Fike Clifford E, 69, Auburn, died Friday at DeKalb Hospital emergency room. He was born Sept. 14, 1917 in Kendallville, the son of Warren and Edith (Firestone) Fike. He married Mildred Millhouse Feb. 4, 1939 in Garrett. He had been employed as a B&O Railroad engineer and retired in 1976 after 37 years’ service. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and the United Transportation Union. Surviving are his wife; a son, Kenneth, Auburn,; a daughter, Carole Coddington, Osceola; a sister, Mrs. Eugene (Laurella) Schuster, Paw Paw, Mich.; a brother, Archie, Nappanee; and four grandchildren. Fike Dale, about 22, was killed in action somewhere in North Africa. This was Noble County’s third reported casualty of WW II. He was a graduate of the Kendallville High School. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maryann; sisters, Dorothy E. Latta and Beulah Critten. He was a member of Moose Lodge 1311, FOE 1906, Tri State 2 Cylinder Club and St. Mary's Catholic Church where Mass of Christian Burial was held. Fike Ruth May, 82, Auburn, died Sunday in St. Joseph Medical Center, Fort Wayne. She was born Aug. 1, 1905 in DeKalb County, the daughter of William and Martha (Bushe) Christlieb. She married Howard Fike Dec. 20, 1921, and he preceded her in death. Surviving are two sons, Glen and Wayne, both Fort Wayne; two daughters, Dorothy Latta of Kendallville, and Annabel Growcock of Wawaka; 20 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Iddings, Auburn, Violet VanWagner of LaGrange, and Leona Friend of Kendallville. One sister, Beulah Critten of Defiance, Ohio, preceded her in death. She was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses in Auburn. Services Wednesday in McComb, Dilgard & Cline Funeral Home, Auburn.
