Cool Franklin E Lyle, 83, of Cromwell,
died Saturday in Oak Leaf Village, Ligonier. He retired in 1975 from ITT
Aerospace Communications in Fort Wayne. Surviving are his wife, Carol; 2
daughters, Shirley Lundblad of Columbia City and Susan Harding of Warsaw; a son,
Kevin of Nappanee; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Funeral
Tuesday in Eastlund-Harris Funeral Home, Syracuse. Burial, Christian

Cooley Ada, 44, of LaOtto, was killed in
an automobile accident near Defiance, O., Sunday.
Several family members were injured in the accident, her husband Robert, her
daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Brumbaugh and their children Karen Lynn
and Loren; a niece, Patricia Crothers; and another daughter, Lois Jean. She was
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Graber of Avilla. Funeral yesterday at Hopewell Church near LaOtto. + 9-?-1941
Cooley Armando S, 69, of Ligonier, died Dec. 21, 2004 in Avalon Village,
Ligonier. On Aug. 17, 1935 he was born in Centerville, Pa., to Charles
Adam and Pearl Irene (Watson) Cooley. He married Judith Emrick in Zion
Lutheran Church, Corunna, on April 13, 1963. He had been a truck driver
for Jayco for 10 years and prior to that had been a foreman at Essex Wire
Co. He was a member of Vineyard Christian Fellowship, Rome City.
Surviving are his wife; 2 sons, Frederick of Nappanee and Gary of North Webster;
3 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Rose Yankosky and Tracey and Paul Miller of
Kimmell and Rhonda and David Mynhier of Ligonier; a sister and brother-in-law,
Barbara and Joe Holt of Kendallville; 8 grandchildren and 8
great-grandchildren. A brother, Charles, and 2 sisters, Hilda and Alma,
preceded him in death. Services Friday at Ulrey-Renner Funeral Home.

Cooley Charlotte E, Kendallville, died November 30 in
Parkview Hospital. She was born in Swan Twp May 10, 1904, a daughter of Marion
L. and Della (Hagerman) Jarrett. She married F. Marion Cooley December 17, 1920.
She had lived in Kendallville 35 years. Surviving are her husband; three
daughters, Mrs. Frank (Bessie) Pickard, Auburn, Mrs. James (Donna) Vance, South
Bend, and Mrs. Clyde (Vivian) Mason of Bowling Green, Ky.; two sons, Wayne and
Paul, Fort Wayne; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by one sister and one brother. Services Thursday in
Berhalter-Hutchins Funeral Home, Kendallville. Burial, Lake View Cemetery. ~

Cooley Elizabeth Ella, 93, Avilla, died
Tuesday in Kendallville Nursing Home. She was born in Swan Twp
Sept. 16, 1894, the daughter of Frank and Amanda (McCoy) Cooley. She retired
from Trenton Garment Co., Kendallville, and was a member of Hopewell
Presbyterian Church. Her only survivor is a brother, Marion of Kendallville. Two
brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Funeral Friday in
Brazzell Funeral Home, Avilla. Burial, Hopewell Cemetery. + 7-22-1988
Cooley Francis Marion, 88, of Kendallville, died Monday in McCray
Hospital. He was born in Swan Twp, Noble County, on Dec. 12, 1901, the son
of Frank and Margaret Amanda (McCoy) Cooley. On Dec. 21, 1921 in Noble
County he married Charlotte Elizabeth Jarrett who died in Nov. 1982. He
was a retired farmer and truck driver for Uhl Oil Co. and a member of Corunna
Community Church. Surviving are 3 daughters, Bessie Pickard of Auburn, Donna
Vance of South Bend and Vivian Mason of Rockfield, Ky.; 16 grandchildren; 19
great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Two sons preceded him in
death, Wayne in 1989 and Paul in 1986. Also preceding him in death were 2
brothers and 3 sisters. Services Thursday in Berhalter-Hutchins Funeral

Cooley Frank, 83, retired farmer, died in Sacred Heart Hospital in
Garrett Sunday after a major operation. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Margaret
Amanda Cooley; a daughter, Miss Ella at home; two sons, Marion of Kendallville,
and Robert of Swan Twp; a brother, Calvin of Swan Twp. Funeral Tuesday at Hopewell Church. Burial, Hopewell Cemetery. + 8-?-1942
Cooley Lucille F Sweet, 86, of Fort Wayne, died Tuesday in Brighton Hall
Nursing Home in New Haven. She was born June 4, 1907 in Ridgeville to Curt
and Blanche (Thornburg) Parker. Her first husband, Merlin Sweet,
died in 1947. Her second husband, Robert Cooley, died in 1983.
Surviving are a son, John Sweet of Los Altos, Calif.; 2 stepdaughters; 4
brothers, Willard Parker of Fort Wayne, Robert, Paul and Dale Parker of
Kendallville; 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Funeral Friday in
Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Wayne St. Chapel. Burial, Lindenwood

Cooley Margaret Amanda, 73, widow of Frank Cooley who died Aug. 16, died at her home in Avilla last Friday following a heart attack.
She is survived by one daughter, Ella, of Avilla; and two sons, Robert of Swan
Twp, and Marion of near Kendallville; eight grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren. Funeral Monday at the residence and at

Cooley Paul E, 62, of Fort Wayne, died at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne Wednesday. He was born July 6, 1923 to Marion and Charlotte
(Jarrett) Cooley. He married Rose Marie Shake. He had lived in Fort Wayne for
the past 30 years. He was a retired electrical engineer for Shambaugh &
Sons. He was a WW II veteran in the Marines and a life member of VFW No. 2749 in
Kendallville, Elks Lodge No. 1776 in Dunkirk, American Legion Post 227 and the
Four O’Clock Club. Surviving are his wife; his father in Kendallville; two
daughters, Paulette S. Robinson of Churubusco, and Nancy J. of Fort Wayne; three
sons, Timothy D. of N.Y.C., Dennis L. and Thomas J. of Fort Wayne; three
sisters, Bessie M. Pickard of Auburn, Donna Vance of South Bend, and Vivian
Mason of Bowling Green, Ky.; one brother, Wayne V., Fort Wayne; and eight
grandchildren. Services Saturday at D. O. McComb & Sons Lakeside

Cooley Robert D, 84, Fort Wayne, died at the Three Rivers Convalescent
Home in Fort Wayne. He was born September 24, 1898, the son of Frank and Amanda
(McCoy) Cooley. He married Ada Graber December 8, 1918. She died September 21,
1941. He married Lucille Parker Sweet May 29, 1953. He was a retired area farmer
but had lived in Fort Wayne the past 30 years. He was a member of the Hopewell
Presbyterian Church. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Beth)
Brumbaugh, Albion, Mrs. Don (Jean) Weirick, Kendallville; a stepdaughter, Mrs.
Jack Sweet, New Haven; a stepson, John Sweet, Los Altos, CA; a sister, Ella
Cooley, Kendallville Nursing Home; a brother, Marion of Kendallville; 10
grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A stepson,
two sisters and a brother preceded him in death. Services Monday at

Cooley Robert S died at his home in Swan Twp Feb. 19. He was born Dec.
12, 1822 in Beaver County, Pa. He married Martha Jane Moore Feb. 10, 1848. She
died Dec. 7, 1890. They had 7 children, 3 of whom survive. Aug. 23,
1868 he was ordained a ruling elder in the Presbyterian Church and held the
office until his death. Funeral in Hopewell Church. ^ 2-26-1892
Cooley Timothy Dean, 37, of New York, N.Y., and formerly of Fort Wayne,
died Tuesday in St. Vincent’s Hospital, New York, from bacterial infections
resulting from AIDS. He was born in Wolf Lake, the son of Paul and Rose Marie
Cooley. He grew up in Fort Wayne and was a cosmetic artist. He managed several
restaurants and founded his own catering business, "The Upper Crust,"
in N.Y.C. For the past three years he was an office worker for Dr. Barbara
Sturrett in New York. Surviving are his mother in Fort Wayne; two sisters,
Paulette Sue Bufink of Churubusco, Nancy Joanne Cooley of Leo; two brothers,
Dennis Lynn and Thomas Jackson, both Fort Wayne; a grandfather, Marion Cooley of
Kendallville, and grandmother, Lorene Martin of Dunkirk. + 8-18-1987
Cooley Wayne V, 67, died Tuesday in St. Joseph Medical
Center, Fort Wayne. A Noble County native, he had lived most of his life in Fort
Wayne. He was a WW II Air Force veteran and a self-employed general contractor.
Surviving are his wife, Anna C.; his father, Marion of Kendallville; two
daughters, Deborah A. Roberts of Leo, and Marsha J. Cooley of Dallas, Texas; a
son, David W. of Newport News, Va.; three sisters, Bessie Pickard of Auburn,
Donna Vance of South Bend, and Vivian Mason of Bowling Green, Ky.; and three
grandchildren. Services Friday in Crescent Ave. United Methodist Church.

Coon Rebecca of this city went to spend the day with her daughter, Mrs.
E. S. Hamlin, and before she was able to remove her wraps was seized with the
fatal illness from which she did not rally, dying Feb. 29, 1904, aged 69 years, 5 months and 11 days. The cause
of her demise was pleurisy and heart trouble. The daughter of James and Mary
Pepple, she was born in Richland County, Ohio, Aug. 20, 1834 and with her
parents came to Albion in 1847 and was a continuous resident of this city and
York Twp. She married Washington A. Coon Nov. 9, 1853. They had six
children, of whom all are living except one son, Harry,
who died when a child. She was a member of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran
Church of Albion. She leaves a husband; five children, Mary, the wife of
C. B. Phillips, Eva, the wife of E. S. Hamlin, Charles C. Kuhn and
Nora of this city, and Bayart T. Kuhn, trustee of York Twp; two
brothers, John B. of this city, and W. R. of Nappanee; two sisters, Mrs. Mary E.
Stoops of Nappanee, and Mrs. J. H. Cockley of this city; twelve grandchildren.
Funeral at her home Wednesday. Burial, Albion Cemetery.

Coon Washington A, 96, a Civil War veteran and a lifelong resident of
Noble County, died last Wednesday at the home of his son Charles.
He married Rebecca Pepple Nov. 9, 1853, his wife preceding him in death 19 years
ago. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Mary Phillips, and Mrs. Eva
Hamlin, Toledo, Ohio, and Mrs. Nora Russell, Albion; and two sons, Bayart
and Charles Kuhn, Albion. The funeral was held at the Presbyterian Church

Coonrod Hazel Timmis, 77, of LaGrange, died
Sunday at her home. She was born Sept. 20, 1911 in LaGrange County, the daughter
of Ira and Cora Mae (Helmer) Routsong. She married Harry Timmis on Nov. 30, 1930
in Kendallville. He died May 22, 1959. She married Lowell Coonrad on Sept. 12,
1961. She ran the Timmis Ford Garage for several years. Surviving are her
husband; a son, Larry Timmis of LaGrange; two stepdaughters, Sally Morrow of
Champaign, Ill., and Mari Zimmerman of Malaga, Spain; four sisters, Mrs. Ralph
(Helen) Gunthorpe of Lansing, Mich., Mrs. Ira (Irene) Prestidge of Marshall,
Mich., Mrs. Raymond (Blanche) Holtz of Sturgis, Mich., and Mrs. Thurlow
(Marjorie) Nelson of Bluffton, Ohio; a brother, Lloyd of Las Vegas, Nev.; nine
grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A son, Robert Timmis, was killed in
an accident in 1960. Services Tuesday in Frurip-May Funeral Home,

Cooper Catherine, living in Fulton County, Ind., died on the 4th
and was buried at this place on the 7th. She was a sister of Stutely

Cooper Chester, son of Daniel and Sarah Catherine Mellinger Cooper, was
born Jan. 31, 1890 and died Sept. 6, 1949, aged 59 years, 7 months
and 5 days. He leaves a widow, Ruth Cole Cooper; one son, Leonard of Fort
Wayne; four grandchildren; one brother, G. R., Albion; four sisters, Mrs. Minnie
Winebrenner, Albion, Mrs. Gertrude Gatwood, Ligonier, Mrs. Susie Self, Syracuse,

Cooper Eliza, of LaOtto, died Saturday, death resulting from the infirmities of old age. She was married twice,
her first husband being Samuel Pulver. They had five children,
John and Gibson, LaOtto, Jude of Fort Wayne, Mrs. Thomas Smith, LaOtto, and Mrs.
Hallie Sowers, deceased. Some years after Mr. Pulver’s death she married Mr.
Cooper, who died many years ago. She was a member of the Wesleyan Church

Cooper Evelyn M, 84, died Saturday in her Avilla home. She was born
Aug. 22, 1915 in Albion to Harvey and Mary (Blaskie) Speaker. She married
Lorin M. Cooper, who preceded her in death. She was a beauty and
cosmetology teacher in Fort Wayne for over 40 years and was a member of St.
Mary's Catholic Church in Avilla. Funeral Wednesday in St. Mary's

Cooper George Robert, about 71, (b. 9-7-1882) a lifelong resident
of this community and for many years a local painter and decorator, died Sept. 10, 1953 at Whitley County Hospital after suffering a
heart attack. Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Curtis Winebrenner, Mrs. Gertrude
Gatwood, and Mrs. Susie Self of Albion, and Mrs. O. F. Lehmberg of

Cooper Harold Claude, 55, R. 1, LaOtto, died Sunday at his
home. He was born Oct. 28, 1906, at Circleville, the son of Stanley and Mitta
Curts Cooper. In 1930 he was married to Pearl Stipp. He had been employed at the
International Harvester for 36 years. The family moved to the present home in
1945. He attended the First Methodist Church at Churubusco. Survivors include
the wife; one daughter, Mrs. James Blanton, Churubusco; two sons, Richard and
David, both living at home; one grandchild; the mother, two brothers, and one

Cooper Hazel died at her home west of town Jan. 17 from a heart
attack. Surviving are the husband; one son, Leonard at home; four sisters, Mrs.

Cooper Jeremy Lee, 3 months, died Friday at his Ligonier home. He
was born in Goshen on Dec. 29, 1989, the son of Ricky and Geraldine (Burr)
Cooper. Surviving are his parents; 3 brothers, Daniel, Ricky Jr. and
Joshua; and 2 sisters, Melissa and Janet; grandparents, Sam and Shjelba Cooper
of Leesburg, Bob and Carolyn Taylor of Muncie, Jackie Schaffer of Warsaw, Robert
and Elsie Burr of Ligonier; great-grandparents, Harvey and Katherine Rhamy of
Muncie and Wilard and Marie Howe of Vanderbilt, Mich. Graveside services

Cooper L M "Bill", 65, of 124 S. Main St. was dead on arrival
at McCray Hospital, Kendallville, Saturday.
He was stricken at Campbell Body Shop where he was manager for the past 20
years. Born May 27, 1905, in Ill., he was the son of James and Laura Cooper. He
was married to Evelyn Speaker April 16, 1949. She survives. He belonged to the F
& AM Wayne Lodge 25, was a member of the Noble County Law Enforcement
Association and was instrumental in organizing Civil Defense in Kendallville.
Surviving in addition to the widow are two sisters, Mrs. Lucille McCallister,
Whittier, Calif., and Mrs. Jane Trueblood, Long Beach, Calif.; and one
grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, one brother and one sister.
Services Tuesday at the Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville. Burial, Rose

Cooper Leonard, about 47, a former resident of Albion, suffered a fatal
heart attack March 22, 1963 at his home in Bonita Springs, Fla. He is survived
by his wife, Evelynn; two daughters, Mrs. Barbara Swogger of Kendallville, and
Mrs. Donna Snyder of Albion; two sons, Larry and Wayne, both Albion; five
grandchildren; and a stepmother, Mrs. Ruth Cooper, R. 4, Albion. Funeral and

Cooper Luther G, 84, born in Noble County, the son of Hiram P. and
Margaret (Simpson) Cooper, died in Ligonier June 16. He was a member of Ligonier
Masonic Lodge for 57 years and a charter member of the OES of that city. He was
a member of the Christian Church. Surviving are the widow, Maude Vallance Cooper; and one
daughter, Mrs. Arthur Dillon of Culver; two brothers, Rev. H. S. of
Detroit, and Homer H. of New Castle, and a sister, Mrs. J. T. McLane of

Cooper Madison Leigh, 19 months, died Dec. 29, 1999 in the emergency room
of McCray Hospital. She was born may 25, 1998 in Kendallville to Bryan and
Tara (Taylor) Cooper. Surviving are her parents in Albion; 2 brothers,
Jordan and Bryan; grandparents, Dale and Mickey Cooper of Rome City and
Virgie Cooper of Fort Wayne, Harry and Linda Taylor of Albion, Wanda Arnold of
South Milford and Pam Priestly of Ligonier; great-grandparents, Wade and Joann
Cooper of Kendallville, Sharon Young of Kimmell, Hermia Arnold of Kendallville,
and Nan Bricker of St. Marys, Ohio. She was preceded in death by
great-great-grandparents, Cleo and Lee Taylor, and Mason Arnold. Services

Cooper Maria B died at Fowlerville, Livingston County Jan. 11 in
the 67th year of her age. She was born in Oneida County N.Y. in 1820;
came to Michigan sixteen years later and was married to S. W. Cooper in 1844.
The first 38 years of her married life were spent on the home farm four miles
east of Grass Lake. Here six children were born to her, and here her life work
was done. Five years ago Mr. Cooper moved to Fowlerville, since which time she
has been a helpless invalid. Funeral in the Congregational
Church of this place Saturday and the remains were laid to rest in the

Cooper Nathan D, 4 months, died Tuesday in McCray Hospital. He was
born Aug. 17, 1995 in Goshen to Dale and Mickey (Thompson) Cooper.
Surviving are his parents in Kimmell; 4 brothers, Dale Jr. of Indianapolis,
Bryan of Cromwell, Kenneth Frey of LaGrange and Jeremy of Kimmell; 4 sisters,
Susie of South Shore, Ky., Bobbi of Rome City, Carrie of Randolph, Neb., and
Jennifer of Cromwell; and grandparents, Wade and Joann Cooper of Kendallville,
Kenneth and Kay Thompson of Rushville, and Bertha Holcom of Clarksburg.

Cooper Ruth B, 71, S. Third St., died Friday (d.5-22-1972) in McCray Hospital. She was born Jan. 30, 1901 in Jefferson Twp
to Elmer E. and Cora E. (Fuller) Cole. She married Chester Cooper Feb. 26, 1938.
He preceded her in death, as did one son and one stepson. Surviving are two
brothers, Ray C. and James B., both Albion; two sisters, Mrs. Roy C. (Mary)
VanDrew, Riverton, Wyo., and Mrs. Ever (Elizabeth) Pressler, Peru, Ind.; and
four grandchildren. She was a member of the York Twp Home Division, Rebekah
Lodge and First Presbyterian Church of Albion. Funeral Monday at the

Cooper Wade, 79, died Jan. 2, 2001 at DeKalb Memorial Hospital. He
was born Sept. 13, 1921 in Charleston, W. Va. to Bayless and Mary (Nelson)
Cooper. He married Joan Miller on May 29, 1975 in Syracuse. He was a
veteran of the U. S. Army, serving during WW II, and a member of Community
Baptist Church in Wolcottville. He was retired from Sea Nymph Boat Co. in
Syracuse and had worked at Essex Wire of Ligonier. Surviving are his wife
of Kendallville; 4 sons and 3 daughters-in-law, Dale and Mickey Cooper of Rome
City, Jim Cooper of Albion, Jack Cooper of Cromwell, Mike Cooper of
Ligonier; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Gary Harris of Ligonier
and Sandra and Robert Hammond of Galion, Ohio; 25 grandchildren and 25
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers, 2 sisters,
one grandchild and 2 great-grandchildren. Services Friday at Hite Funeral

Coosard Rachel Jwas born March 4, 1843 and died at her home January 11, 1918; aged 74 years, 10
months and 7 days. Her parents
Daniel I. and Maria Newnam came from Maryland in 1833, having bought from the
government 40 acres of land in Springfield Township, LaGrange Co. for which they
paid $50. This land is part of the John Seaburn homestead now owned by J.
W. Appleman of LaGrange. On this land Mrs. & Mrs. Newnam lived about 4
years, when they moved to Noble county where the deceased was born and her home
throughout her life. May 3, 1912 Mrs. Coosard attended the funeral of a
neighbor, H. S. Lovett, and took sick shortly after. When she was first taken sick, her brother, J. E. Newnam and wife lived
at Minerva, OH. They at once sold their beautiful new home and came here
and cared for their sister all these years. She leave two brothers, J. E. Newnam of this place, and Millard P. Newnam
of Buchanan, MI. She was united in
marriage to Samuel F. Coosard, October 25, 1861 and he died November 2, 1898,

Copeland Abram J was born in Noble County, Feb. 2, 1858. He died at
the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne May 27, 1923, aged 65 years, 3 months and 25
days. He was a resident of Noble County all his life. Thirty years ago or more
he united with the Cosperville Baptist Church. His father died in 1904, his
mother having died several years earlier. His twin sister, Martha, to
whom he was greatly attached, died five years ago. He is survived by two
brothers, William and Albert, and his niece Barbara Snider. Funeral May

Copeland Clyde Richard, 73, of Kendallville, died Tuesday in Parkview

1954. A teacher and band director at Kendallville High School until 1965,
he began working for Dana Corp, retiring in 1987. He was a member of First
Presbyterian Church in Kendallville and the Elks Lodge. He was a WW II
veteran of the Army Air Corps. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Janine
Smith of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; a son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence and
Caroline of Fort Wayne; 3 sisters, Dorothy Elliott of Dallas, Tex., Phyllis
Stycos of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Marilyn Davidson of Bergenfield, N.J.; and 2

Copeland Lucille M, 89, of Fort Wayne and formerly of Albion, died Sunday at Byron Health Center, Fort Wayne. She was born in Newland May
21, 1899, the daughter of Newton and Bertha (Bower) Stanton. She was a member of
Jehovah’s Witnesses. Her husband, Dewey V., died in 1971. Surviving are two
daughters, Constance Rahe and Eileen Newmann, both Fort Wayne; a son, James of
Fort Wayne; two sisters, Lavina Snow of Rensselaer and Opal Heath of Fort Wayne;
two brothers, Truman and Jerald, both Rensselaer; seven grandchildren; and 10

Copeland Sarah died Dec. 2, 1893 at her home near Wawaka of
consumption, aged 69 years, 2 months and 27 days. She was born in Tuscarawas
County, Ohio, Sept. 6, 1824. At the age of eight years, her parents, William and
Sarah Collett, moved to Wood County, Ohio. After about four years’
residence there they came to Indiana and in the year of 1837 settled on the
Hawpatch in LaGrange County. She married John Copeland on Feb. 14, 1854. They settled the first of
the next month in Elkhart Twp, Noble County, on a piece of land given her by her
father. In 1861 they moved to a farm nearby where they have since resided. She
was a member of the Wawaka F. B. Church. She leaves her companion and

Coplin Alba (Frazure), 49, wife of Arthur B. Coplin, formerly of Kendallville,
died Sept. 29 at her home in Chicago from a heart ailment. She was born at Albion, and when a young girl moved with her parents,
Alex and Alice Frazure to Kendallville. She resided there until aged 16, the
family having moved to Gary at that time. Surviving are the husband; a daughter,
Marjorie; a son, Arthur Jr.; the mother in Gary; and three brothers, Forman,
Monroe and Ralph. The father, one brother and a sister preceded her in death.

residence of an apparent heart attack. He had lived the past 25 years in the
Cromwell area after moving from Payne, Ohio. He was a former employee of

the American Legion in Albion. On Oct. 18, 1945 he married Eileen Pike.

Coplin George W, who died Aug. 14, was born in Saratoga County, New York
Jan. 19, 1811. His father, a soldier of the Revolution, died when he was 3 years
of age. When a youth his mother also died, leaving him the youngest of 13
children. In 1849 he removed with his family to Milford Twp, LaGrange County
where he lived and labored until he secured a comfortable home. About 10 years
ago he removed to Kendallville and from there to LaGrange where he has for 3
years past made his home with the family of his youngest son. Aug. 21, 1834 he
married Rebecca VanVranken, who survives and they had 6 children,

Wayne. He was born August 13, 1922
in Woodburn, the son of Paul C. and Margaret Elizabeth (Pepple) Coplin.
He graduated from Payne High School in Payne, Ohio, in the class of 1939.
He retired from International Harvester in Fort Wayne.
On September 13, 1943, he married Barbara Wasson in Spencerville. He
served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the
Avilla Masonic Lodge No. 460 F & A.M. and American Legion Post 240 in
Avilla. Surviving are his wife; a son, Irvin Bruce (Sharon) Coplin Jr. of
Avilla; two daughters A. Christine (Kenny) Butler of Avilla, and Kathryn
Williams of South Milford; eight grandchildren, Lee Butler, Matthew Coplin,

Coplin Maude M, 100, a 19-year resident of the Peabody Home, North
Manchester, died in the home’s health center Tuesday. Born April
6, 1878 in Kendallville, she was the daughter of Spencer E. and Mary (Goucher)
Coplin. She had lived in Kendallville prior to moving to North Manchester. She
was a member of the Presbyterian Church. The only survivors are nieces and

Copp Fannie Taylor, daughter of John and Mary Copp, was born at Bellevue,
O., Feb. 14, 1885, and died Nov. 24, 1923 at Albion. In 1909
she decided on her life’s vocation, that of a nurse, and entered into training
at the Hope Hospital, Fort Wayne. She located in Albion for a time nursing for
the doctors of the town, after this she went to Irene Byron as a resident nurse.
In 1921 she spent a year at the Illinois General Hospital, Chicago, completing
the one year she was unable to finish at Fort Wayne. Following her graduation
she came to Albion and has been located here, doing nursing as calls came for
her. She leaves two sisters, Mrs. Frances Beane and Mrs. Georgiana
Erwin of Albion; and one brother, J. W. of Pendleton, Ore. + 11-?-1923
Copp John Austin was born Dec. 20, 1904 at Matthews, Ind. and died on May 3, 1923 at Ann Arbor, Mich. He was the oldest son of John
Warren and Bertha Rice Copp of Pendleton, Ore. At the age of three and one-half
years he left with his parents to live at Salt Lake City, Utah. There he
received all of his early education, graduating from the East Side High School.
During this period of training he also attended the Officer’s Training Corps
at Camp Hearney, Calif., where his good work brought him the rank of lieutenant.
He leaves his mother and father; three sisters, Virginia, Mary Jane and
Georgia Elizabeth; and one brother, Robert Rice, all of Pendleton, Ore.; three
aunts, Mrs. Frances Beane, Mrs. Georgianna Erwin and Miss Fannie Copp of Albion.
Also many relatives on his mother’s side from the state of Kentucky. +

University Medical Center in Indianapolis. She had been employed with
Cummins Engine Co. in Columbus, Ind. for 30 years and retired in March
1998. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Avilla. She
was born in Olney, Ill. on September 29, 1943 to Paul and Ellen (Porter)
Grier. Her father is deceased and her mother survives in Greenwood.
She married William J. Copple on April 4, 1964 in Washington, Ind. He

in the emergency room at Parkview Noble Hospital. She was
a homemaker and was a member of the Noble County Homemakers for 51 years and the
Kendallville American Legion Post 86 Ladies Auxiliary for 45 years. She
was born April 12, 1922 in Kendallville to Loy and Susan (Applegate)
McWilliams. She married William "Bill" Kelley on September 27,
1941. He died May 19, 1982. She married Frank Corder on June 12,
1993 in Angola and he survives in Kendallville. Also surviving are 4 sons,
David Kelley of Albion, Robert Kelley of Rome City, Terry Hisey of Kendallville,
and Frank Corder Jr. of Toledo, Ohio; 2 daughters, Kelley Sillaway of LaOtto and

Hospital. He was born February 20, 1925 in Toledo, Ohio to Frank G. and
Clara (Woessmer) Corder. He married Peggy Jean Darling in 1942. She
died in February 2001. He married Beverly Jean Hisey in 1947 in
Angola. She died August 25, 1990. He married Doris M. Kelley on June
12, 1993. She died November 17, 2000. He was also preceded in death
by a grandson; a great-granddaughter and a sister, Mary. Surviving are 4

Cordial Gabriel died Saturday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after
critically wounding his wife. He was born in Wayland, Ky. Oct. 19, 1944, and he
married Karen Hatton in St. John’s Lutheran Church, Kendallville, in 1974. He
was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict and had worked at Kraft’s for eight
years. Survivors include a daughter, Ella 2; his father, Ennis, Wayland; one

married Mattie Manns. He worked 35 years for Newnam and Lane Foundries,

County, she married Moses Cordial. She lived in this area since 1951, moving
here from Ky. She had worked at Kendallville Laundry and Brighton Mushroom Farm.

Cording Lillian B, 70, practically a lifelong resident of this city, died
late yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Guy Deal, E. Mitchell
St. She was born in this city March 28, 1859, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Justice
Barron, pioneer settlers here. With the exception of a few years in Chicago, her
entire life was spent here. For a number of years she operated a millinery store
in this city, discontinuing the business nearly twenty years ago. She was an
active member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Surviving are the daughter; two
brothers, Lee of this city, and Frank of Los Angeles, Cal.; and three

7, 1957 in Sacred Heart Hospital in Garrett. He was born in Italy and was a
retired New York City barber. He came to this community and had been living on a
farm three miles east of Albion in Jefferson Twp. Surviving are the widow,
Blanche; one brother, John, and a sister, Mrs. Katherine Costello, both of New

Corkins Osman (late
of Rome City) was struck by lightning on the morning of July 10th,
and instantly killed. Being warm by
over-exertion, he laid down under a large plum tree, in the yard near the door,
to rest and refresh himself. He had
not been there but a few minutes, when a thunder bolt, (far in advance of the
shower) struck him, burning him fearfully, and killing him instantly.

and was a member of the Kendallville Assembly of God. Surviving are four

Cornforth Wilhelmina, 89, died Tuesday in Strawberry Village
Nursing Home. Born Feb. 14, 1889 in Dillsboro, she was the daughter of William
F. and Mary (Hahn) Luke. She married John Foster Cornforth Feb. 7, 1912 in
Dillsboro. He died Jan. 22, 1961. She had lived in Ligonier since 1928 and was a
member of Ligonier United Methodist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. W.
H. (Mildred) Burns and Mrs. Robert (Florence) Crothers, both Ligonier; three
brothers, William, Dixon, Ill., Frank and Edward, Dillsboro; one nephew, Earl

Sunday at his residence. He was born in Fremont, Calif. March 13, 1962, the son
of Rev. David L. and Marjorie B. (Grimes) Cornwell. He had lived in Kendallville
approximately four years and was a member of Day Star Christian Fellowship.

Correll Charles, 59, R. 1, Cromwell, died Thursday at his
residence of a heart attack. A native of Noble County, he was born March 3, 1913
to Oscar and Catherine (Prentice) Correll, and was married in Ligonier April 18,
1954 to Eleanor Iavagnilio. He was a lifelong resident, a farmer and a school
bus driver. He belonged to Indian Village United Methodist Church. Surviving are
the widow and mother, Mrs. Catherine Dorsey; two sons, Frank and Richard at

Correll Goldie, 91, former Cromwell resident, died Thursday
at Strawberry Village Nursing Home in Ligonier. She had resided at Correll’s
Corner near Cromwell for 70 years. She was born in Kosciusko County in 1890 and
was preceded in death by her husband, Homer, in 1978. There are no survivors. A

Correll Nathaniel Prentiss was born in Washington Twp,
March 3, 1850, and died at his home near Grand Haven, Mich., July 29,
1927, aged 77 years, 4 months and 26 days. Most of his life had been spent in
Michigan where he went while quite young. On Oct. 31, 1889 he married Flora Metz of Washington Twp, who died in May 1896, leaving
one son, Fred, who survives in Detroit. In Sept. 1910 he married Alvina Henneman, who survives with one brother, Samuel; and two
grandchildren. He joined the Freewill Baptist Church at Ormas when 17 years of
age. Funeral at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Calvert Metz in Washington Twp

Corteville Adah died today at the home of a son, Guy, at
1004 Wayne St. Born in Cook County, Ill. Jan. 28, 1851, she was brought to
Berrien County as a child. She resided many years in Royalton Twp before moving
to St. Joseph. Here she was a member of Logan Circle, Ladies of the GAR. Her
husband, Adrian, died in 1913. Surviving are eight sons, 19 grandchildren and
eight great-grandchildren. The sons are Oscar of St. Joseph, Asa of Benton
Harbor, Frank of St. Joseph, Charles of New Troy, Job of Battle Creek and John,

Corteville Adrian, 76, residing at 920 Pleasant St., this city, died at
the Kalamazoo State Hospital Saturday. He was born in Groudee County,
Holland, Oct. 17, 1837 and with his parents and five brothers emigrated to the
United States in 1858, locating in Wayne County, N.Y. for a time. In 1861 he
came to Michigan and settled in Barry County. Shortly after coming to Mich., he
went to Chicago and offered his services to his adopted country and he has a
most enviable record for a private soldier, serving in all over four years for
the Union cause. He enlisted in June 1861 in Co. I., 7th Mo.
volunteer infantry, serving three years. He re-enlisted in March 1864 in Co. K.,
11th Mo. volunteer infantry and was mustered out in June 1866. He
joined A. W. Chapman Post No. 21 GAR in 1881. After the close of the war he came
to St. Joseph and has resided in this vicinity since. He was married in this
city Oct. 31, 1866, to Miss Adah Porter of St. Joseph by Justice Joseph
W. Brewer. He was the father of thirteen children, ten sons and three daughters,
nine of the boys with the widow surviving. They are Alva, Oscar, Asa, Frank,
Charles, John, Job, Levi and Guy, all of whom reside in St. Joseph with the
exception of Alva who lives at South Bend, and Charles who lives at Galien. On

Warsaw. She was born May 19, 1892 in Noble County to Perry and Mary (McKeever)

resident here 25 years and was a member of the Lutheran Church and Eastern Star
in Ligonier. She is survived by one son, Carroll, Cromwell; three sisters,
including Mrs. Orpha Groebl and Mrs. Vesta Moore, Cromwell; and one brother and

Cory Harvey Edward, 83, retired feed mill operator, died of a heart
attack Thursday at Goshen Hospital. He was born in Kosciusko County on
April 27, 1882 to Jerome and Amanda (Renfrow) Cory and had lived most of his
life in the Cromwell community. On July 9, 1910 he was married in Albion to
Ethel Weeks. He was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge in Syracuse. Survivors
are his widow; a son, Carroll, Cromwell; a sister, Mrs. Ada Crow, Syracuse; and

Cory Hattie A was born July 18, 1874 in Albion and died on March 16, 1920 at the Presbyterian Hospital, Chicago, at the age of 45
years and 7 months. She was the daughter of Oliver and Syrena Morris, both of
whom preceded her in death. She was married Oct. 8, 1902 to John
Cory, and they made their home in the old family home of Mrs. Cory. To Mrs. Cory
came the privilege of having lived her entire life in the house of her birth,
and although her father was taken by death a number of years ago, her mother
lived with Mr. and Mrs. Cory until about a year before her death. She was the
last surviving member of her family, for her two brothers, Eddie and Harry,
preceded her in death. As a young girl she joined the Methodist Episcopal Church
and was a member of the New Century Literary Club and the Thimble Club. The only
near relatives who survive are two aunts, Mrs. Maria Stoops of Albion, and Mrs.
Agnes Stoops who lives in a western state; and a large circle of cousins,

of Albion died December 10, 2012, at Northridge Village Nursing Home in Albion
at the age of 100 years and 2 months. She worked at the Garment Factory in Ligonier, before moving to Albion in 1945,
where she helped her husband, Ralph, on the farm and worked as a waitress for
John and Mid’s Restaurant in Albion. She was
a member of Rehoboth Missionary Church in Albion. She was born
October 15, 1912, in Noble County to Vernon and Anna (Savoie) Brumbaugh.
On August 5, 1933, she married Ralph
Cory in Spencerville. He died on April
23, 2005. Their son, Larry Cory, also preceded them in death.
Surviving are a son and
daughter-in-law, David and Shirley Cory of Albion; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren;
5 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Charlie Brumbaugh of Kendallville.
She is also preceded in death by two

Parkview Noble Hospital. He was born July 19, 1935 to Ralph L. and Irene
G. (Brumbaugh) Cory in Ligonier. He had been an Automotive Sales rep. and
an Original Equipment Mfg. Rep. in Detroit, MI. He retired in 1990.
He was a member of Chef DeGarre 40&8 642, American Legion Post 246, Albion,
VFW Post in Wolf Lake, Elks BPOE 451 in Ligonier, Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church
and a Korean Conflict veteran of the U.S. Army. On April 28, 1956 he

Cosper Charlie Joseph was born in Brimfield, Jan. 16, 1866;

rapid progress in it. He was chief train dispatcher of the B&O RR with

Club. A 1931 graduate of Talma High School in Talma, Indiana, she was born

Hospital. She was born April 13, 1909 in Noble County, the daughter of Frank and

He preceded her in death August 24, 1966. She had lived in Noble County all her
life, was a retired school teacher and member of Wawaka United Methodist Church

Cotton Joseph B, former Noble County resident and attorney, died Monday in Chicago. He was a native of Brimfield and had been a partner of

wife; 3 daughters and a son-in-law, Gwyn and Dr. Robert Jansen of St. Johns,
Mich., Lisa Charles of Kendallville, and Angela Baker of Grand Ledge, Mich.; a
son and daughter-in-law, James and Mya of Kendallville; a brother, David of
Fountain Hills, Ariz.; and 6 grandchildren, Ashley Dodson, Breanna Baker,

78, of Kendallville, died May 31, 2013 at her home. She
was born in Mishawaka on May 29, 1935, to Angelo and Hildreth Mary
(Slagle) Stefoff. She graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1953 and Ball
State University in 1957. She also earned a Master’s in Education from St.
Francis University. She married Jack Cougill on August 6, 1955, in Angola and he
died June 4, 1999. She was a special education
teacher for 26 years with East Noble School Corporation. She was a member of
Tri Kappa Beta Chapter, the Kendallville Elks, Trinity Church United
Methodist. Survivors include 3 daughters,
Gwyn and Bob Jansen of St. Johns, Mich., Lisa Charles of Kendallville and
Angela Baker of Portland, Mich.; a son, James Cougill of Kendallville; four
grandchildren, Ashley Dodson, Breanna Baker, Kaitlin Jansen of St. Johns and Kyle Jansen of St. Johns; one great-grandchild,
Malorie McWright; 2 brothers, John and Mildred Stefoff of Boca Raton, Fla.,
and Jim and Jackie Stefoff of Scottsdale, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her

Cougill Pauline, 70, a resident of The Lamplighter, died
Thursday at McCray Hospital. She was born April 27, 1910 in Farmland, the
daughter of Connor and Alice McGuire. She married Roger Cougill, who died in
1969. She was a retired practical nurse and a member of Trinity United Methodist
and OES. Surviving are two sons, Jack of Kendallville, and David C. of Oklahoma
City; and eight grandchildren. A brother preceded her in death. Services

Coulter Amanda, 76, pioneer of this community, died June
10 from heart disease. Funeral was Wednesday in Christian Chapel. Burial,

Coulter Carl F, 74, formerly of 234 Vine St., Kendallville, died Friday at McCray Hospital, Kendallville. Born April 14, 1909 in Columbia
City, he was the son of William and Florence (Windle) Coulter. He was a retired
employee of Indian Head Trucking Co. of Fort Wayne and a member of the
Kendallville American Legion Post and VFW. He is survived by his sister, Mary
Hoadley of Holland, Mich.; and his brother, Earl of Fort Wayne. Services

Coulter Eustatia (Crawford) was born in Noble County, September
4, 1858 and died at Minneapolis, Minn., June 6, 1891, aged 32 years, 9 months, 5
days. She removed to Elkhart, Ind. in 1865 where she was married to George
Coulter in March 1887, and they immediately located at Minneapolis, where they
have since resided. Her death was due to consumption. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Interment occurred at Elkhart on Friday. ~ 6-18-1891
Coulter Mabel, 91, Fort Wayne, died April 10, 2004 at Saint Anne
Home. She was born August 24, 1912 in Noble County to Carl C. and Bessie
Opal (Fisher) Hoffman. On December 13, 1958 in Fort Wayne she married Earl
Coulter. He preceded her in death. Surviving are 3 sisters, Donna Bohde
of Fort Wayne, Eva Donley of Avilla and Garnet Stephens of Huntertown. Also preceding her in death were an infant
daughter; 2 sisters, Gladys Gunder and Ruby Ward; and 2 brothers, Earlin and
Raymond Hoffman. She was a self-employed cook and a member of First

Fort Wayne. She was born April 11, 1921 in Albion to Howard and Mable (Sheley)
Conrad. She married George Coulter, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are a sister, Esther Poe of Kendallville; and a brother, Harold Conrad
of Albion. She was preceded in death by a child; and 2 brothers, Everett

Coulter Mary M, daughter of Martin and Elizabeth Schroeder, was born in
Shelby County, Ohio, Feb. 17, 1848 and died at the home of her son, Lawrence,
April 30, 1936, age 88 years, 2 months and 13 days. She married John Coulter in
1869. He died Dec. 14, 1889. They had 4 children of which 2 are
surviving, Mrs. Florence Lancaster of Logansport and Lawrence of this city; and
one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Kitt of Merriam. Funeral was Sunday at the
M. E. Church, of which she was a member. Burial, Christian Chapel Cemetery. She
had a large collection of old records and had her father and mother’s

Countryman A F, 67, resident of Elkhart 20 years, died in a U. S.
hospital in Denver Colo., caused by an ailment of the liver the result of a
severe case of yellow fever contracted in Cuba in 1898 during Spanish-American
War. He is attributed to saving the life of Theodore Roosevelt about 2 years
prior to his election to the vice presidency when he was caught in a severe
blizzard on Pike’s Peak. He was born in Albion Sept. 13, 1873 and was reared
to manhood there. At the age of 18 he entered the employ of the Manitou &
Pike’s Peak cog road, serving until he entered the Spanish-American War.

Home of Fort Wayne. He was plant manager of Taylor Made Systems in
Kendallville and a member of Kendallville Elks Lodge 1194 and American Legion
Post 86. He served in the U.S. Army in 1946. He was born March 29,
1928 in Johnstown, N.Y. to Frederick and Bessie (Clemons) Countryman. He
married Eleanor Mae Gordon on Jan. 9, 1947 in Greensboro, N.C. Surviving
age his wife; 2 sons, Jim and Al of Kendallville; a daughter and son-in-law,

Hammac of Kendallville; 3 sisters, Betty Omspaugh of El Paso, Texas, Bertha

McCray Hospital. She was born March 14, 1897 in Cosperville, Ind., the
daughter of David and Julia (Croy) Gard. She had lived in Elkhart until
1968. Since then she spent winters in St. Petersburg, Fla., and summers in
Albion. She was the widow of Roy Courter. One sister and one brother preceded
her in death. The only survivors are nieces and nephews. Funeral will be Monday

Courtney Benjamin G, 84, of Fort Wayne, died Saturday in Parkview
Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was born in Fort Wayne June 8, 1914 to Alan S.
and Grace (Gates) Courtney. On Oct. 10, 1936 in Kendallville he married
Martha Wible. She died Nov. 13, 1995. A graduate of South Side High
School in Fort Wayne, he attended Purdue University and Rose Poly
Institute. He was director of purchasing for Flint & Walling Mfg.,
retiring after 35 years. He had been a member of Kendallville Jaycees,
Rotary Club, and Trinity Church United Methodist. Surviving is a son,

Courtney Martha W, 81, died Monday at Parkview Hospital, Fort
Wayne. She was born May 8, 1914 in Noble County to Roy E. and Bessie
(Stout) Wible. On Oct. 101, 1936 she married Ben G. Courtney in
Kendallville. She was a nurse and civilian employee of the U.S. Navy
Inspection Service during WW II. A past member of the board of directors
of the McCray Hospital, she was a member of Tri Kappa and Trinity Church United
Methodist in Kendallville. Surviving are her husband; a son, Charles of
Riverside, Ill. A brother, Robert Wible, preceded her in death.

Hospital. She was a cabinet builder for Homecrest in Goshen. She was

In 1962 in South Carolina she married Lloyd Courtright. Surviving are her
husband; 2 sons, Kevin Courtright of Rome City and David Elijah of Windsor,
S.C.; 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Randy Petersen of Cromwell, Tracey
and Dean Howard of Ligonier and Teresa and Jerry Duncan of Windsor, S.C.; a

Cousino Albert L, 79, of Lake City, died Thursday afternoon in the V.A.
Medical Center following a brief illness. A native of Fremont,
Ohio, he had been a resident of Lake City since 1978, having moved there from
Indiana. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Sylvia; a daughter,
Theresa Armendariz, Dayton, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Glorida D. Cronin,
Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Donald, Avilla; and a sister, Sister Leonore
Cousino of St. Charles Borremeo School in Fort Wayne; 6 grandchildren and 7
great-grandchildren. He retired in 1967 following 30 years of service in
the U. S. Navy. He served during WW II, the Korean and the Vietnam
Conflicts and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. After retiring from active
duty, he went to work in private industry in sheet metal work, retiring again in
1978. Following his retirement he moved to Lake City and enjoyed his
hobbies of tinkering in his workshop, fixing up old bicycles and volunteering
at the V.A. Medical Center. He was a member of the American Legion
Post #57 for many years, the Lake City Masonic Lodge and the Lake City Shrine
Club, an active member of the Epiphany Catholic Church and led the Rosary at the
church on many occasions. Funeral mass was held January 8 in Epiphany

Couts Anna, 81, widow of the late Jacob Couts and a pioneer resident of
this community died this morning at her home, 616 W. Williams St. from
complications. She was born Sept. 28, 1853 in Ohio, the daughter of Cornelius
and Elizabeth Bloomfield. Her parents moved to this community when she was a
young girl, and in 1880 she married the late Jacob Couts at Albion. He died June
21, 1931. They had two daughters, Mrs. Ottie Rensberger and Mrs.
Vesta Muesing, both deceased. Surviving are 2 sisters, Mrs. Cordelia Swogger and
Mrs. Amanda Swogger, both of near this city; 7 grandchildren; and 10

Couts Cash Alvin, 71, a former Ligonier barber and resident of Cromwell
and Papakeechie Lake for many years, died Jan. 4 in Rick Island Village, Fla. He
was born in Cromwell, the son of Ephriam Couts, and spent most of his life in
Noble County. Survivors include his widow, Emma; one son, Earl L. of Athens,
Ga.; a daughter, Margie of Key Largo, Fla.; one brother, Jess of east of
Cromwell; a sister, Mrs. Utoka Umbenhower of Kimmell; and grandchildren.

Arthur Couts. He died in 1976. She was employed 27 years at Wirk
Garment Co. and 21 years at Quality Baker of Ligonier. She was a member of
Ligonier United Methodist Church and Perry Twp Homemakers; Club. Surviving
are 2 daughters, Mary Jane Lepird of Ligonier and Ethelmae Cunningham of Fort
Wayne; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and 5

on June 21, 1993. He was a 1947 graduate of Marion High School.

York Central RR and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lakeland.
He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge F & AM in Elkhart, a 32nd degree
mason and a member of the Ancient Acceptance Scottish Rite. He is survived by

community, died Aug. 26, 1954 after suffering a heart seizure. The wife of Earl

Couts Joshua, living one mile east of Brimfield, died last
Friday from heart trouble. He had gone to the wheat field and loaded up a load
of wheat, intending to go to Albion. He sent his son back to the house for the
pocketbook, remaining near the granary. When his son returned he was lying on
the ground dying. He leaves a widow and 8 children, Fred, James, Charles, Frank,

Wayne. She was born Jan. 2, 1894 in LaGrange County. She married Raymond Asher

natural causes. He was born Feb. 18, 1933 in Noble County, the son of

years. He served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Korean Conflict and

Kendallville. She was born in Kendallville on March 9, 1988, the daughter

Covell Sarah M was born in Wayne County, Ohio, Sept. 2, 1847. Her parents
moved to Kendallville in 1863. While a resident of this city her father, William
Richey, died. In 1866 she moved to Iowa. She was married in 1867 to Silas Covell.
They had 3 daughters and one son. In 1883 her husband died, and
in 1884 she moved back to Indiana and settled in Kendallville. She died Jan. 28,
aged 53 years 4 months and 26 days. Funeral at the Tabernacle Church.

at her residence. Born Dec. 9, 1924 in Ligonier, she was the daughter of Walter

J. Coverstone. She moved to Ligonier from Wolf Lake five years ago. She was
retired from Essex Wire Corp., where she had been employed 20 years. She was a

Coverstone Earl, 37, Thorncreek Twp farmer, was killed Saturday when a bolt of lightning struck a barn in which he was working and
knocked him from the barn loft to the floor. He died instantly. A son, Eugene,
who was working on a ladder helping his father, also was knocked to the floor
but escaped serious injury. Until March of this year, he had lived south of
Columbia City and had worked at a lumber yard here for nearly 20 years. He left
the lumber yard after the fingers of his left hand were severed in a mishap.
Surviving are the widow, the parents, seven children, three brothers, three

Coverstone John J, 76, of rural LaGrange, died Tuesday in the home of his
son in Ligonier. He was born April 30, 1919 in Ari to Samuel and Reuah
(Boggs) Coverstone. He married Dorothy McDonald April 20, 1946 in Wolf
Lake. She died in 1981. A 1937 graduate of Wolf Lake High School, he
was a WW II veteran of the U.S. Army. Retired from Essex Wire in Ligonier,
he was a member of West Noble American Legion Post 243. Surviving are 2
sons, John of Three Rivers, Mich., and Roger of Ligonier; a brother, William
Thompson of North Webster; 2 sisters, Mrs. Stanley (Grace) Buckles of Kimmell,

Cowan Walter Lisle of 438 Arcadia Court, Fort Wayne, was born in
LaGrange, Ind. Aug. 29, 1885, and died at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne Nov.
24, 1929, aged 44 years, 2 months and 26 days. On June 15, 1910, he was married
to Zoe Minette Clapp of Albion. They had two children, Virginia
and Robert. He graduated from LaGrange High School in 1904 and from Indiana
Dental College in 1909. He began his dental practice in Albion and continued
there for nine years. He then moved to Fort Wayne and continued his profession.
He was a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church, Scottish Rite and Mystic
Shrine and the Maumee Blue Lodge. He is survived by his wife and children; his
mother, Mrs. Catherine Thieery of Columbus, Ohio; and an aunt, Mrs. Frank Bush

James and Nora (Payne) Head. On Sept. 12, 1920 in Colorado, she married William
J. Cowley, who died April 20, 1970. She was a member of the Grace United
Methodist Church, New Paris. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Marian)
Goudy of Ligonier, and Mrs. Charles (Grace) Rogers of New Paris; a sister, Mary

of Central Noble High School, Albion, with the class of 1969, and a veteran of
the U. S. Armed Forces, serving with the WAAF during the Vietnam Conflict.

Miller’s Merry Manor. She was born Nov. 21, 1899 in Auglaize County, Ohio, a

1922 in Whitley County to Elmer Jacob Cox. She attended school in Thorncreek Twp

Jefferson Twp Feb. 19, 1873. He was
born in Fayette County, Pa. Many
years of his life were passed in Wooster, Wayne County, Ohio.
In the spring of 1860 he came to Noble County and had since resided here.

FL. He was employed by the Town of Cromwell. Surviving are his wife;

Cox Jeanette R, 59, of Riverview Health Care Center, Fort Wayne, died Sunday in St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne. She was born in
Kendallville April 20, 1924, the daughter of William and Edith (Diamond) Franze.
She moved from Brazil to Fort Wayne 15 years ago, where she was supervisor at
Sears in Glenbrook Shopping Center 1970-1979. Surviving are two daughters, Faye
Blackman of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Carolyn Lambert of Fort Wayne; a son,
Ursell III of Indianapolis; three sisters, Edythe Nartker of Kendallville, Ruth
Doub of Mesa, Ariz., and Fay Creager of Butler; three brothers, Richard of Lawrenceburg,
Everett of Angola, and Frank of Auburn; and seven grandchildren. Three brothers

Cox Jennett, a resident of this city for over a half century, died
at her home on Richmond St. Monday from complications. Nettie M. Lowther
was born March 28, 1857 and came with her parents to this city in 1864.
In 1879 she was married to William Cox and since that time has made her home on
Richmond St. Surviving are the husband; one brother, William of Avilla; and 3

telegram was received on Tuesday morning announcing the death of Joseph S. Cox,
clerk of Noble County, which occurred at Three Rivers, Michigan, at 9 o’clock
of the night previous. He had gone to Three Rivers some weeks previous to his death, for the benefit of his health.
Mr. Cox has been in feeble health for a long time, and his death was not
unlooked for, although for a short time after visiting the Magnetic Springs at
Three Rivers, it was thought that his condition had improved, and hopes were
entertained that his life might be prolonged for years perhaps.
His remains were brought to Kendallville, his former home, for interment.
He was buried yesterday at 10 o’clock. In his death Noble County has lost one of her best citizens. Albion

Cox Patton, about 73, of R. 3, Albion, died Dec. 23,
1970 at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. He had resided in this area since
1956. He was born in Garrett, Ky., June 15, 1897 to Johnson and Eliza (Cassel)
Cox and was married to Amy Gayheart on Feb. 28, 1918. He was a retired farmer
and had been employed at Baker’s Orchard. Surviving are his wife; seven
daughters, Mrs. Bee Coburn, Mrs. Ellen Montel, Mrs. Katherine Childers,
and Mrs. Anna Mae Conley, all Albion, Mrs. Elizabeth Hall of Hamilton, Ohio,
Mrs. Harvey Goen of Grand Rapids, Ohio, Mrs. Larry Pant of Kendallville; five
sons, Carl of Garrett, Ky., Bill, George, Charlie and Melvin, all Huntington;

Cox William H ended his existence by cutting his throat with a razor at
the home of his son, T. J., on Diamond St. For some months
he has been in poor health which caused his mind to be unbalanced at times.
After eating his dinner he went upstairs and in a few minutes called to his
daughter-in-law. She immediately went to the head of the stairs where a sad
sight met her eyes. The father was lying upon the floor with some old clothing
under his head for a pillow and he was covered with blood. He was 82 years of
age and left 7 children, Mrs. M. F. Bowen of Avalon, Mo., Andrew of McPherson,
Kans., Mrs. E. H. Creditor of Wichita, Kans., Mrs. Jennie Hayward, Mrs. L. V.
Lewis, T. J. and W. J. of this city. Funeral took place from the Baptist Church
Sunday. He was born in Wayne County, Ohio, April 19, 1816; died March 12, 1897, aged 80 years 10 months and 21 days. He married Mary A.
Sites in Massillon, Stark County, Ohio, Feb. 10, 1838. They had 3 sons
and 6 daughters. Two of the daughters died in infancy. They moved to Indiana in
1843 and settled in Peru. From there they moved to Miami, which town he helped
to lay out, and in 1856 they moved to Kendallville. Mrs. Cox died April 15,

Cox William J, 84, died Monday at the Kendallville Hospital from the
infirmities of age. In his early youth he came to Kendallville where he spent
the remainder of his life. He married Jennett M.
Lowther in 1888, who died in 1917. He was well-known as a painter and paper
hanger throughout the county. He was a member of the Kendallville Masonic Lodge.
Surviving is one sister, Mrs. L. V. Lewis of Seattle, Wash. Funeral

Coy Delbert John, 26, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Coy of near Cromwell, died
July 15, 1944 of wounds suffered in action in France on July 13, 1944. He was a
first gunner on an 81 mm. gun and was attached to an infantry division. He was
graduated from Cromwell High School with the class of 1937. Sgt. Coy entered the
service in Oct. 1942 and received his military training at Camp Blanding, Fla.,
Camp Forest, Tenn., and Camp Atterbury, Ind. He was sent overseas in January
1944 and saw much action before he was fatally wounded in Normandy. He is
survived by his parents; one sister, Mrs. Leona Calbeck of Ligonier; and two
brothers, Max of Ligonier, and James of Cromwell. All places of business in
Cromwell will display their flags from 12:00 noon until sundown on Friday and
will remain closed from 1 until 3:00 in respect to the memory of the deceased.

Monday. She was born in Noble County June 10, 1914, the daughter of Wilson and
Rosetta (Reidenbach) Altimus. She married Lauris E. Coy, who died March 21,
1963. She was employed by United Technologies in Topeka and was a member of the
Brimfield United Methodist Church and Rome City OES. Surviving are a sister,
Mrs. Harry (Ruth) LaPradd of Fort Wayne; two brothers, Howard of Fort Wayne, and
Harry of Wawaka; and several nieces and nephews. One brother and one sister

Coy Earnest, 86, Columbia City, died Nov. 7 at his home. He was born in
Kosciusko County in 1897 to Irvin and Cynthia Poland Coy. He was first married
to Mabel Caskey, who died in 1958. His second marriage was to Gertrude Quinn. He
had lived in Noble and Kosciusko Counties and moved to Columbia City in 1947. He
was a retired farmer. Survivors are his wife; five sons, Chester and Don, Fort

Coy. She moved from Cromwell to Ligonier in 1944. She was formerly a clerk at
Sears in Goshen and a member of Ligonier Church of Christ and Goshen Hospital

County Hospital. Born April 2, 1913, in Van Buren Twp, Kosciusko County, he was
the son of Clarence and Lesta (Gilbert) Coy. He was married May 19, 1935 in
Syracuse to Mary Ellen O’Neal, who survives. He grew up on a farm in the
Milford area and has been a Green Twp farmer for several years. He was a member
of the Church of the Brethren, Syracuse. Also surviving are one daughter, Mr.
Lauren (Donna Jean) Osbun, R. 3, Kendallville; one son, Robert, R. 3, Albion;

Coy Hazel L, 83, R. 7, Warsaw, died Sunday in Goshen
Hospital. She was born Feb. 24, 1893 in North Webster to W. C. and Rosetta
(Hall) Goble. She married Sherman Coy Sept. 24, 1910 in North Webster. She was a
resident of this area for 34 years before moving to Warsaw four months ago.
Surviving are her husband; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Ray Claphan, Mich.; two sons,
Eugene, Goshen, and Sherman Jr., Warsaw; one brother, Roscoe, Goshen; nine
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Sunday in Goshen Hospital. She was born Feb. 9, 1922 in Kendallville, the
daughter of Earl and Margaret (Horner) Kline. On Sept. 2, 1946 in Cromwell she
married James Coy. A lifetime area resident, she retired in 1987 as a registered
nurse at Lakeland Loving Care Nursing Home, Milford. She was a member of
Ligonier United Methodist Church and Ligonier American Legion Auxiliary No. 243.
Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Patricia Taylor of Mottville, Mich.,
and Joyce Renner of Ligonier; a son, Michael of Syracuse; a sister, Mrs. Ray

Coy Mary Ellen, 88, of Albion, died Oct. 27, 2005 in Kendallville Health
Center. She was a member of the New Paris Brethren Church and worked as a

Kendallville. She and her husband also farmed. She graduated from
new Paris High School in 1935 and Ravenscroft School of Cosmetology in
1973. She was born May 13, 1917 in Goshen to Erastus and Plural (Delaney)
O'Neal. On April 19, 1935 in Elkhart County she married George L.
Coy. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Lauren Osbun of
Kendallville; 6 grandchildren and their spouses, Sherry and John Kemerly, Bill
and Paula Osbun, Terri and Audra Osbun, Paul and Linda Coy, Diane and Randy
Sloan, and Linda and Danny Pischke; 12 great-grandchildren, Matthew and Jessica

Coy Max I, of Ligonier, died Dec. 28, 2008 at Avalon Village in
Ligonier. He retired from DePew of Ligonier as a plumber after more than
50 years of service. A graduate of Cromwell High School, he was a member
of the Ligonier Church of Christ and the Lions Club. He served in the U.S.
Army during WW II. He was born Aug. 1, 1916 in Noble County to Roy and Ola
(Stump) Coy. He married Edna Cripe, and she preceded him in death.
Surviving are a son, Donald of Ligonier; 3 grandchildren and their spouses,
Trent and Jennifer Coy, Darin and Rachel Coy and Kelly Coy; 2
great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Nolan; a brother and sister-in-law, James and
Shirley Coy of Topeka. He was also preceded in death by a brother,
Delbert, who was killed during WW II; and one sister, Leone Calbeck.

Goshen Hospital. Born March 15, 1897 in Noble County, she was the daughter of
John and Leona (Wallace) Stump. On Oct. 25, 1915 in Albion she married Roy Coy,
who died in 1978. A lifetime area resident, she was a member of Broadway
Christian Church. Surviving are a daughter, Leona Calbeck of Ligonier;
two sons, Max of Ligonier, and James of Kimmell; a sister, Minnie Shock of
Syracuse; two brothers, James and Roy, Kimmell; eight grandchildren; and nine

Coy Roy, 87, Ligonier, died this morning at Strawberry
Village Nursing Home. He was born Feb. 5, 1891 in Syracuse, the son of Irvin and
Cynthia (Pollock) Coy. On Oct. 25, 1915 he married Ola Stump in Albion.
He was a retired farmer and carpenter and had lived in the Cromwell and Ligonier
areas all his life. He was a member of the Broadway Christ Chapel. Surviving are

Coy Sherman, 87, R. 7, Warsaw, died Wednesday in his home. The
son of Irvin and Cynthia (Pollock) Coy, he was born Aug. 3, 1889 in
Kosciusko County. He married Hazel Goble Sept. 24, 1910 in North Webster. She
died July 25, 1976. He was a resident of Kimmell for 34 years before moving five
months ago to Warsaw. He was a retired employee of the Ligonier city street
department. Survivors include one stepdaughter, Mrs. Helen Claphan, Goshen; two
sons, Eugene, Goshen, and Sherman Jr., Warsaw; two brothers, Ernest, Columbia
City, and Roy, Ligonier; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and

was born Feb. 4, 1949 in Kendallville, the daughter of Monroe L. (Tony) and
Irene J. (Myers) DePew. On June 28, 1968, she married Don L. Coy in Ligonier. A
West Noble Elementary teacher, she was a member of Ligonier United Methodist
Church and Chatterbelles Homemakers’ Club. Surviving are her parents of
Ligonier; her husband; two sons, Trent and Darin at home; one daughter, Kelly at
home; two sisters, Mrs. Howard (Joyce) Brown of Newark, Del., and Mrs.

Coyer Gene M, 75, Garrett, died June 28 in DeKalb Hospital. He was born
Aug,. 8, 1908 in Ironton, Ohio to the late Patrick and Lucy Coyer. He worked as
a coal miner in the Elkron mines in Kentucky for 25 years, then as a security
guard at Borg-Warner in Auburn, retiring in 1973 after 15 years service.
Following retirement he worked at the Kroger warehouse in Fort Wayne. He married
Emma Stephens Sept. 13, 1929 in Martin, Ky. Surviving are his wife; three sons,
James, Fort Wayne, John, Garrett, and Denver, Mich.; six daughters, Mary Fugate,
Mrs. Ed (Billie) Tuttle, and Mrs. Mike (Sharon) Frost, all of Garrett; Mrs.
Orpha (Sue) Rowe, Butler, Bertha Morgan, Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Terry (Patricia)
VanGessel, Kendallville; five sisters, Grace McCoy and Mary Coyer, Chesapeake,

Coyle Goldie Mayfield, 67, a lifelong resident of the Cromwell and
Ligonier area, died Tuesday in her home in Ligonier
following a heart attack. She was a member of the Methodist Church, the American
Legion Auxiliary and the Eagles Lodge Auxiliary. Surviving are her husband,
Clell; two daughters, Mrs. Johnny Schwab of Ligonier, and Mrs. Beulah Kulik,
Benton Harbor, Mich.; a son, Robert Mayfield of Burlington, Iowa; four

Coyle Raymond L, 63, of 903 S. Martin St., died Sunday in
Fort Wayne VA Hospital. He was born Sept. 19, 1923 in Columbia City, the son of
Ernest and Constance (Betzner) Coyle. On Sept. 21, 1943 in Seattle, Wash., he
married Patricia Dick. He lived in the Ligonier area since 1955 when he moved
from Columbia City. He was a mechanic for Starcraft in Goshen, retiring in 1978.
He was a WW II Navy veteran and member of Ligonier American Legion Post 243.
Surviving are his wife; his father in Columbia City; two daughters, Mrs. Robert
