Conard Clarence Sheldon, 74, died Tuesday at the home of his sisters, Misses Corrine and Marjorie Conard, 613 E. Diamond St. Born in Auburn March 14, 1903, he was the son of Clarence Everett and Wilberetta (Williams) Conard. He lived in Kendallville the past 66 years, coming from Auburn at the age of eight. He was a retired singing evangelist and a member of the First Christian Church. He is survived by the two sisters, Corrine and Marjorie. Another sister, Mrs. Earl (Hilda) Kimmell, preceded him in death in 1972. Funeral Thursday in Berhalter-Hutchins Funeral Home. Burial, Lake View Cemetery. + 8-?-1977
Conard Corinne I, 89, of Kendallville, died Thursday in her residence. She was born Nov. 5, 1904 in Montpelier, Ohio to Clarence Everett and Wilberetta (Williams) Conard. She was a graduate of Kendallville High School and retired from Kraft Foods. She was a member of First Christian Church and Kendallville BPW. Surviving is a sister, Marjorie Conard of Kendallville. Conard Marjorie B, 95, of Kendallville, died April 4, 2008 at Parkview Noble Hospital. A 1930 graduate of Kendallville High School, she was a 1957 graduate of Ball State Teacher's College. She was a member of Beta Chapter of Tri Kappa in Kendallville and of First Christian Church. An elementary teacher for 44 years, she taught at various schools. She was born Sept. 22, 1912 in Kendallville to Clarence and Wilberetta (Williams) Conard. She was preceded in death by a brother, C. Sheldon Conard; and 2 sisters, Corinne Conard and Hilda Kimmell. Coney Clifford "Kib", 75, of 304 Ashton Dr., died Saturday at McCray Hospital. Born in LaGrange County, April 11, 1907, he was the son of Mark and Hattie (DeHaven) Coney. On May 26, 1930 in LaGrange he married Zada Moffett. He moved from Stroh to Kendallville 50 years ago and had been an auto mechanic. He was a member of Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall. Surviving are his wife; a son, Donald E. of Pompano Beach, Fla.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, one brother and one sister. Coney Clifford Arlen, 32, Schrums Trailer Park, Mishawaka, died at his home recently. He was born Oct. 2, 1943 in Kendallville to Mr. and Mrs. Kib Coney, 542 S. Coney Deloris C,79, of Kendallville, died Dec. 15, 2003 at Shepherd of the Hill nursing home. She was born in Kendallville Jan. 16, 1924 to Jasper and Jenny (Brown) Hewitt. She married Raymond Coney on March 21, 1942 in LaGrange. She had worked at McCray Refrigeration in Kendallville. Surviving are her husband; 4 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Sandy Fulk of Omaha, NE, Sonia and Terry Saddison of Sturgis, MI, Sharon Slaybaugh of Ligonier, and Twila and Dewey Kline of Kendallville; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Carol Coney of Albion; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Dina Hewitt of Kendallville; 2 sisters, Pearl Newman and Maxine Gray of Kendallville; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Coney Mildred E, 85, of Kendallville, died Sunday in her residence. She was born in Kendallville May 1, 1909 to Roy and Cloe (Ringler) Shook. On Jan. 21, 1928 in Auburn she married Oren E. Coney. He died March 10, 1976. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and Lady Elks. Surviving are 2 daughters, Lee Anne Hackett of Adams Lake and Patricia Barhan of Inglis, Fla.; 6 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Coney Oren E, 65, Kendallville, died Wednesday in McCray Hospital. He was born Dec. 14, 1910 in LaGrange County to William and Savilla (Kunce) Coney. He married Mildred Shook in Auburn Jan. 21, 1928. He was a Kendallville resident since 1930. He previously lived in Auburn. He was in the automobile business since the age of 15 and was owner of O. E. Coney Pontiac, Buick, GMC 40 years. He was a 35-year member of the Kendallville Lions Club, life member of the Elks Club, member of IOOF Lodge and National Automobile Dealers Association. He was the first recipient of Man of the Year award by Kendallville Chamber of Commerce and served on the Kendallville School Board. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Keith (Patricia) Barhan, 123 N. Summit St., Kendallville, and Mrs. Michael (Leeanne) Hackett, Adams Lake, Wolcottville; two sisters, Mrs. Beulah Pant, Royer Lake, and Mrs. Lennis (Ida) Wells, Garrett; two brothers, Orval, R. 1, Wolcottville, and Otho, LaGrange; and six grandchildren. Coney Otho D, 73, of R. 3, LaGrange, died Wednesday at Miller’s Merry Manor. Born July 19, 1912 in Noble County, he was the son of William and Savilla (Kunce) Coney. On April 13, 1935 in Waterloo, he married Dorothy A. Parr. A retired farmer, he had been president of the Brushy Chapel Cemetery Association, Lake Bethel Church, and Star Lodge No. 225 F&AM, Orland. Coney Raymond Dale, 79, of Kendallville, died Jan. 12, 2004 at Hickory Creek nursing home. He was employed at Newnam Foundry for 20 years and retired from Lane Foundry in 1985 after 20 years of service. A WW II veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a member of the Kendallville Masonic Lodge. He was born June 30, 1924 in Milford Twp, LaGrange County to Gaylord D. and Bernice Matilda (Bickel) Coney. He graduated from Salem Center High School in 1941. On March 21, 1942 in LaGrange he married Deloris Coleen Hewitt. She died Dec. 15, 2004. Coney Zada B, 79, of Kendallville, died today at McCray Hospital. She was born June 17, 1906 in St. Joseph County, Mich. to James and Minnie (Grove) Moffett. On May 26, 1930 in LaGrange, she married Clifford "Kib" Coney, who died May 15, 1982. She moved from Orland to Kendallville in 1931 and was a former school teacher. She was a member of the Jehovah’s Witness in Kendallville. Surviving are a son, Donald of Pompano Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Erma Burk of Fremont, and Alma D. Conkle Frances J, 92, of Miamisburg, Ohio, and formerly of Garrett, died Feb. 1, 2010, at Sycamore Glen’s Healthcare Center in Miamisburg, Ohio. She was a member of the Altarstar United Methodist Church. She was born July 6, 1917, in Norwalk, Ohio, to Lee and Grace (Kime) Jennings. She married Kelham Conkle on Feb.13, 1938, in Dayton, Ohio. He died June 5, 2003. Surviving are a son and daughter in-law, Frank and Donna Conkle of West Carrollton, Ohio; three daughters and sons in-law, Karen and Thomas Gibson of Los Angeles, Calif., Carol and James Lindsey of Miamisburg, Ohio, and Linda and Michael Chavez of San Antonio, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lee Byron Jennings of Chicago, Ill. Conklin Everett L, 68, of Augusta, Mich., died Tuesday in Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo, Mich. He was born in Kendallville Dec. 28, 1920, the son of George W. and Mary M. (Eley) Conklin. He moved to Augusta in 1959 and was a nursing assistant in VA Hospital in Battle Creek, Mich. for 20 years. He was a member of AARP and the Civilian Conservation Corps 1939-40. He served in the Rhineland and Central Europe with the U. S. Army during WW II. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Jim (Mary) Babick of Plainwell, Mich.; three sons, Thomas and Kerry, Kalamazoo, and David of Battle Creek; a stepson, Chris Frazier of Fulton, Miss.; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Tony (Lois) Salvaggio and Sue Porter-Austin, Portage, Mich., and Donna Jean Frazier of Florida; two sisters, Eva Hammel and Dorothy Miller, Kendallville; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Conklin Mary Myrtle, 54, resident of Noble County for many years, died last Wednesday at Lakeside Hospital, Kendallville, where she was being treated for a streptococcic infection. She was born Sept. 28, 1884 in Noble County, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Eley. At Albion on Feb. 26, 1902, she married George Conklin. They returned to Kendallville to reside, he being employed at the Flint & Walling Mfg. Co. She was a member of the First Evangelical Church. Surviving are the husband, two sons and two daughters, Ray of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Everett at home; Mrs. Arnold Hamel of Kendallville, and Mrs. Wilbur Miller of near Allen Chapel. Conkling Burlyn C, 98, of Cromwell died December 8, 2012 at Northridge Village. He was born on September 14, 1914, to Grey and Ethel Mae (Smith) Conkling in Bureau County, Ill. On January 19, 1936, he married Gladys I. Prentice; she preceded him in death in March of 1977. On February 2, 1978, he married Virginia M. CoMack; she died in September of 1996. He is survived by 2 daughters, Sharon K. (Alan) Beers of Kimmell and Carolyn A. (Richard) Adair of Cromwell; a half brother, Kenneth E. Conkling of Texas; 18 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren He was preceded in death by 2 half brothers, Glenn G. and Lyle W. Conkling; a brother, Gail G. Conkling Grey S, 81, died last Wednesday at McCray Hospital. He was born May 21, 1887 in Princeton, Ill., the son of George Albert and Mary Alice (Sloan) Conkling. He married Mary Jean Canney Feb. 21, 1921. He moved to Indiana in 1925 and sold his farm near Kimmell in 1947, moving to Kendallville, where he was employed as a clerk at the Kendall Hotel for many years, until retiring. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Don Oliver, Fort Wayne; five sons, Gail, North Webster, Burlyn and Kenneth, Kimmell, and Glenn and Lyle, Fort Wayne; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Conley Bennie, 67, of LaOtto, died Oct. 16 at his home. He was born Oct. 10, 1931 in Royalton, Ky. His parents were Adam and Elizabeth (Bailey) Conley. He and Dorothy Handshoe were married on Dec. 15, 1951 in Fremont. He worked at Mid West Foundry in Garrett for 10 years and then worked at Newnam Foundry in Kendallville for 35 years. On Aug. 2, 1962 in Springfield, Ohio, she married Billy Conley. She had been a cook at Blaising's Tavern in Rome City and was a member of New Freedom Baptist Church. Conley Curtis, 76, of Kendallville died March 1, 2011 in Lutheran Life Villages, Kendallville. He graduated from Garrett High School, Garrett, Kentucky, in 1952. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He worked at Newnam Foundry in Kendallville for many years. He was born February 8, 1935, in Gunlock, Kentucky, to Willis and Emily (Shepherd) Conley. On June 6, 1958, in Summersville, Ohio, he married Ellen Gibson. Surviving are his wife; 3 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Emily and Bruce Andrews of Big Long Lake, Virginia Terry of Butler, and Waneta and Butch Percey of Beaumont, Texas; 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Arnold Ray Gibson of Kendallville and Danny Ray and Sherry Conley of Cassopolis, Michigan; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters and brothers-in-law, Thelma and Elmer Hoover of Wayne, Michigan, Ceila and Don Bolen of Destin, Florida, Margie and Doug Cook of Wayne, Michigan, and Lee and Freddie Tillman of Thousand Oaks, California; a brother and sister-in-law, Frank D. and Reana Conley of Louisiana. Conley Donald F, 45, died Oct. 11 when he fell 25 feet from a tree he had climbed. The accident occurred in a woods located near C.R. 1000N and 400W, northwest of Wawaka, where he had gone hunting. The coroner stated it appeared Conley, who weighed 200 pounds, had been sitting approximately 25 feet above the ground in the tree which was seven inches in diameter. The body was discovered by the son-in-law and his brother who had been hunting with him. He was born Feb. 16, 1941 in Knott County, Ky., the son of Talmadge and Verna (Terry) Conley. He married Julia Radaszewski on Dec. 24, 1970 in Cromwell. Surviving are his mother in Vest, Ky.; his wife; four daughters, Laura Huff of Wawaka, Anna Slone and Charlene Fredrickson, Ligonier, and Jennifer Jacobs of Cromwell; three sons, Charles Fredrickson, Brian and Mike, all Ligonier; four sisters, Dana Bergeron of Chicago, Brenda and Dorothy Conley and Madine Dobson, Vest, Ky.; and eight grandchildren. Conley Earl, 62, of 711 Richmond St., died Sunday in DeKalb Hospital. Born in Kentucky Jan. 29, 1918, he was the son of John and Laura (Hicks) Conley. On May 18, 1948 in Prestonsburg, Ky., he married Rose Crisp. He was a retired foundry and coal mine worker. Conley Emma, 54, of Auburn, widow of John Conley, died at the Sacred Heart Hospital last Tuesday, death following a long illness from dropsy. She is survived by two children, Clare Conley of Auburn, and Mrs. Carl Heinzerling of Garrett; her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Strouse of this place; two brothers, Allen Strouse of Elkhart, and Will Strouse of Swan Twp. Conley Frederick Ephriam, eldest son of Louis Conley living near Rome City, nearly two years ago went to Missouri and farmed his uncle’s place. The 7th of last Sept. he was killed by lightning. The remains could not be moved at the time. His father wanted his body to lay at home in their lot in Osborn Cemetery. Jan. 2, 1893, the casket was taken up and shipped to Kendallville accompanied by Dora Conley, brother of the deceased. Funeral was in the M. E. Church at Rome City Jan. 5. Conley Laura, 59, of R. 2, LaGrange, died May 14 in Georgetown, Ky. as a result of an auto accident. She was born in Floyd County, Ky. June 12, 1925, the daughter of Suell and Minnie (Smith) Griffith. She moved to the area 38 years ago from Knott County, Ky. She was a member of the Church of the True God in South Milford. She married Fred Conley Sept. 26, 1940. He died July 2, 1971. Conley Mary Eldo was born Aug. 12, 1873 in Noble County, Indiana, being the second daughter of Williamson and Sarah Nowels. At the age of sixteen she united with the Free Baptist Church at Cosperville, retaining this connection until her death. She was united in marriage to Dora L. Conly, Dec. 10, 1893. For four years she battled with that dread enemy, consumption, bearing her intense suffering with patient endurance, but on March 9, 1899, she finally yielded to the fell destroyer, at the age of 25 years, 7 months and 27 days. Conley Richard R "Dick", 68, LaGrange, died May 2, 2003 at the LaGrange Community Hospital of a heart attack. He was born November 29, 1934 to Thomas J. and Margaret (Storey) Conley in Wolcottville. He married Audra E. Miller on October 17, 1958 in Avilla. They lived in LaGrange for 30 years. Surviving are his wife; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Patrick O. and Angel Conley and Michael S. and Tara Conley, all of Indianapolis; 3 grandchildren, Alexa, Nathan and Tyler Conley; and a sister, Phyllis Buttermore of Auburn. Conley Trent R, 20, R. 1, Rome City, died of massive head and internal injuries at McCray Hospital shortly after midnight today. He was eastbound on CR 850N at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his 1978 Oldsmobile. The vehicle went off the road and rolled over, throwing him from the car and onto the pavement. He was born July 26, 1960 in LaGrange, the son of Robert and Dorothy (Heston) Conley. He was a 1978 East Noble High School graduate and was employed by Thorlief-Larson Construction Co., Fort Wayne. Conlogue Joseph S was born June 19, 1843, the son of Samuel B. and Mary A. (Cilley) Conlogue, his parents being natives of New York and moving to Indiana from Michigan. When he was 4 his parents moved to a farm in Allen Twp where his boyhood days were spent in company with his older brother, W. F., who lives today on the eastern part of the Allen Twp farm originally owned by his father. At the age of 15 he secured a teacher’s license and taught his first term in what is now known as the Beaver Dam School east of Avilla. For 16 years he followed teaching during winter months. His work in school was interrupted by the call to arms and he found his place in Co. D. of the 142nd Indiana of which company he ultimately became first lieutenant. In 1868 he married Julia Strouss, daughter of Jonas and Anna Strouss of Swan Twp. Two children were born to them - Harriet Virginia, and Mrs. Zella Ruth Reeve, both of whom with the widow survive. In 1880 they moved to this city. In 1882 he commenced participation in the publication of the Kendallville Standard and eventually became part owner and editor of the Standard and the Daily Sun. He served as a member of the Board of Education and was involved in the Eastern Indiana Agricultural Association organized in 1883. He died Saturday evening at his home on S. Conlogue Mary A, relict of Samuel B. Conlogue, died April 21. She was born near Rochester, N.Y. May 6, 1814; moved with her parents in her youth to Monroe County, Mich., and from there to this place in 1841. Conlogue Victor F, son of Archibald and Sarah Conlogue, was born near Grand Rapids, Mich. Sept. 13, 1847 and died of pneumonia in Elden, Mo. March 10, 1940. He married Alice J. Field Nov. 3, 1870. They had two daughters, Ethel L. and Gertrude N. He move from Kendallville to Isabella County, Mich. 31 years ago and settled on a farm in Lincoln Twp. In 1882 he moved to Mt. Pleasant, Mich. In 1891 he went to Mo. where he had inherited a tract of land containing valuable mining claims. He was a member of Co. A., 142nd Regiment Indiana Volunteers. The remains were taken to Mt. Pleasant, Mich. for interment, the funeral taking place March 13. He leaves a wife, 2 daughters, one brother and a sister. ^ 4-1-1904
Conlogue William F Mrs., Allen Twp resident, died at her home 2 ½ miles southeast of this city Thursday. She had been afflicted with paralysis since Dec. 25, 1906. She was a daughter of the late John C. Billings and wife of Swan Twp, early settlers of Noble County, who died many years ago. She was born in McComb County, Mich. in July 1842, but much of her girlhood life was spent at the home of the family in Swan Twp. In 1826 she married William F. Conlogue of Allen Twp who survives her. Nearly all of their married life was spent on the farm on which they resided at the time of her death. Conner David W, 87, of Churubusco, died in Miller’s Merry Manor at Columbia City June 12. He was born Feb. 13, 1889 to David and Julianne Cole Conner in Paulding County, Ohio. He married Bessie Cook in 1909 and they lived in Green Twp before moving to Churubusco. His wife died in 1958 and in 1959 he married Anna Fitzsimmons. Connolly Mabel Louise, 87, of Syracuse was dead on arrival at Goshen Hospital last Thursday. She was a Syracuse business woman for the past 30 years, owning and operating the La Petite Shoppe in Syracuse. She was reared by foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Warren (Minerva Snavely) Eagles. She was born March 22, 1883 and was married to William Connolly who died in 1946. She was a member of the St. Andrews United Methodist Church, the Round Table, the BPW Club and the Women’s Society of Christian Service, all Syracuse. She is survived by two sons, James and Byron, and one daughter, Lelia, all of Syracuse; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one half-sister, Bertha LaPointe of Tecumseh, Mich. Conrad Arthur C, 77, was born in Hicksville, O., Jan. 19, 1898 to Henry and Eliza Snellenbarger Conrad. He married Martha Klinger May 29, 1921. Conrad Benjamin, about 64, died Wednesday at his home near Big Lake, just over the Noble County Line in Whitley County, from a brief illness with blood poisoning. Several weeks ago while standing on a pile of onion crates at Kimmell west of Albion, he fell and sustained injuries which resulted in the poisoning infection, and not considering it very serious, he failed to call medical aid until too late to save his life. Conrad Berland E, 73, Albion, died Monday (d. 5-30-1977) of a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head. He was discovered about 2 p.m. in a ditch along CR 175 N just east of CR 75E by a deputy of the Noble County sheriff’s department. A neighbor in the area saw his abandoned car and called police. A suicide note and shotgun shells were found on the car seat. He was born Dec. 3, 1913 in Noble County to Howard and Mabel (Sheley) Conrad. He married Luella Danner in 1935 at Ligonier. He was an employee of the Noble County Highway Dept. Conrad Eliza M died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Anna Billman January 18, 1912.  She was born in Pennsylvania Dec. 19, 1823, and at the time of her death was 88 years and 29 days old. When about 10 years of age she moved to Ohio. When 20, she came to Ligonier and found 2 log cabins where the town now stands. She married Adam S. Conrad Feb. 8, 1844. They made their home in Ligonier utntil he purchased a large farm south of Wawaka, where he died Jan. 12, 1901. They had 8 children, one son and 7 daughters, 3 of whom preceded them in death. She leaves to mourn, John Q, Mrs. Mary Depore of Ligonier, Mrs. Elizabeth Myers, Mrs. Irene Landon and Mrs. Anna Billman; 21 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Funeral Jan. 21. Conrad Howard, 61, (b. 1-29-1886 - d. 3-30-1947) lifelong resident of Noble County, apparently despondent over his declining health, committed suicide last night by hanging himself by a log chain from the rafter of a garage near his home on R. 1, Albion four miles west of here. He stepped off a wheelbarrow in ending his life, but there was evidence of a struggle to regain his footing. His body was discovered by a son-in-law, Ernest Tucker of Albion. His wife died five years ago. Conrad Huston, son of Jacob and Sarah Conrad, was born near Ligonier on Dec. 14, 1851, and died at Albion Sept. 15, 1932, at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 1 day. He was one of a family of eight children, two of whom are yet living, a brother, George W, and a sister Susan. He married Sara Cleveland about 1876. He was a lifetime Ligonier area resident and an employee of Ben Glaser, Inc., Ligonier. He formerly was owner-operator of Conrad’s Standard Station in LaGrange from which he retired in 1973. He was a member of Ligonier Church of the Nazarene and an avid CB and sideband operator. Conrad Mary E, 89, Albion, died August 8, 2012 at Northridge Village Nursing Home in Albion. She was born to John and Cora (Smith) Long in Columbia City, Indiana, on January 26, 1923. On April 10, 1939, she married Harold L. Conrad in Albion. He died on November 1, 2003. She retired from Toheim in Albion in 1983. She was a dedicated member of Trinity United Methodist Church where was was a member of the Church Camera Club and a cook at Albion-Jefferson School in Albion. Conrad Norman L, 74, of Kendallville died December 19, 2009 in his residence. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and was self-employed as an appliance repairman. He was born September 26, 1935, in Albion to Shirley and Flossie (Baker) Conrad. On February 4, 1956, in Kendallville he married Donna Trowbridge. Conrad Robert H, 63, of R. 1, Cromwell, died Saturday at the Fort Wayne VA Hospital. He was born Sept. 23, 1922 in Noble County to Fern and Etta (Hawk) Conrad. He moved to Cromwell five years ago from Fort Wayne. He was a self-employed carpenter before retiring in 1984. A veteran of the US Army during WW II, he was a member of the American Legion Post in Fort Wayne. Constantine Lyman Robert, 84, of Kendallville, died Feb. 25, 2005 at Provena Sacred Heart Home in Avilla. An Air Force veteran of WW II he flew 30 missions in a B-17 bomber. He was an industrial engineer at Kraft Foods 1939-1986 and a member of Kendallville Elks, American Legion Post 86, Royal Neighbors, and Trinity Church United Methodist. He was born Oct. 30, 1920 in Granville, Ill. to John P. and Mary Violet (Sparling) Constantine. He married Darlene V. Martin in Rockford, Ill. on Feb. 14, 1942. She died May 15, 1983. Cook Bert, 52, farmer of near Wawaka, died last Friday in the Sacred Heart Hospital at Garrett, where he had been taken for treatment following injuries received in a fall from a load of hay accident a week ago last Wednesday. His back was broken in the fall, his jaw was fractured and it is believed he suffered internal injuries. He had been practically paralyzed since the fall. For the last two days prior to his death he was unconscious. Surviving besides the widow is a son Don and a daughter Edna. The body was taken to Wawaka for burial. ~ 9-24-1925

The widow of Frank Cook, she had been a teacher for many years in the Albion and Brimfield schools. Cook Donald Warren, 28, a helicopter pilot with a warrant officer rating, died Easter Sunday in Viet Nam when the plane he was piloting was hit by enemy fire and crashed. He had been in the Army two years and left for Viet Nam June 2, 1969. He was based near the Cambodian border. He was born Aug. 19, 1941 in Wyoming and was married April 26, 1964 to Nadine Cutler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Cutler. Cook Edwin Grant was born July 19, 1865 at Virginia, Ill., died April 1, 1901 of consumption at his home in Albion, aged 35 years, 8 months and 12 days. April 22, 1888 he married Miss Clara Eager at Edgerton, O. They had two children, Edwin Eager and Hazel Marie, and they with the wife, parents and two brothers are left. He had been in the practice of law in Albion for several years. Before he began the study of law, he was a barber by trade, conducting a shop in Albion and later in Huntington. Cook Eleanor was born in Beaver County, Penn. April 18, 1803; died June 8, 1882, aged 79 years, 2 months and 7 days. When a child she removed to Apple Creek near Wooster, Ohio, where she was married to Sylvanus Cook Nov. 20, 1823. He died 41 years after their marriage. They raised a family of 7 sons and 1 daughter, of whom 2 sons, Dr. S. L. of Albion, William of Springfield, Ohio; and the daughter, Mrs. Robert Chambers, are the only survivors. In 1851 they removed to Noble County and located on the farm now owned by J. C. Johnson. After residing there nearly 13 years they removed to Albion where she resided until her death. Cook Frank Fielding was born at Albion, March 18, 1855, and died at his home in Rome City, Sept. 16, 1936, aged 81 years, 5 months and 28 days. He was the son of Dr. Samuel L. and Caroline Nesbitt Cook and the eldest of three sons. On July 1, 1877 he married Blanche McMahan. They had two children, Mrs. Daisy Simon of Avilla, and Mrs. Nell Rickard of Rome City. He is also survived by four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. By trade he was a painter and decorator, but many years of his life were spent in the mercantile store of J. D. Black & Sons. Practically his entire life had been spent in this community. Cook George J, 81, of Kendallville, died Wednesday at McCray Hospital. Born March 8, 1904 in Chicago, he was the son of Henry and Mary (Napp) Cook. He moved to Kendallville 41 years ago. He was retired from Kraft Inc. and from 1948 until 1970 owned and operated Aunt Nell’s Candy at his residence. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. His wife, Sarah, whom he married June 4, 1933 in Chicago, preceded him in death Oct. 1, 1973. A daughter, Ruth, is his only survivor. Services Friday at Immaculate Conception Church. Cook George W, about 75, of Rome City, died March 11, 1943 of a heart attack, while after a load of feed at the John Schermerhorn farm home. He came to Noble County about 13 years ago from Allen County. His late home is about a mile and a half southwest of Rome City. His entire life had been devoted to farming. His wife died in Sept. 1941. Cook Granville of Noble Twp near Noblesville, took his wife to a sewing party at a neighbor’s promising to call for her in the evening. He did not come at the appointed time and his wife became uneasy. She went home and found the house locked up. She then went to her father’s but he had not been there. The door was then broken open and the body of the man was found hanging in the stairway. He was probably 24 years of age and had been married a year or two. ^ 3-6-1885

He married Virginia Tooley Jan. 17, 1934 in Paris, Ill. He moved to the Kendallville area 26 years ago from Terre Haute. He was a retired employee of Joslyn Steel in Fort Wayne, a member of the Mormon Church, and a veteran of WW II. Cook Samuel Lane, one of the oldest residents of Albion, and a pioneer of the county, died at his home in that place this morning, aged 85 years and 16 days. Death was the result of cerebral apoplexy. He was born in Wayne County, O., Nov. 28, 1826 and came to this county a number of years ago. She was a member of Brimfield United Methodist Church. She was born in Grabill June 15, 1911 to Jonas and Anna Edith (Leeth) Brown. She married Emmanuel Clarence Cook March 18, 1929. He died May 20, 1973. A 1932 Kendallville High School graduate, she was the owner and operator of The Redwood in Kendallville 1957-1972. She was born April 22, 1914 in Kendallville to William J. and Eliza (Haas) Franke. On June 16, 1937 in Decatur she married Alford Howard Cookerly Jr. He died Dec. 30, 1979. A brother, Harry L. Franke, and a sister, Grace H. Misselhorn, are also deceased. Cookerly Howard, 69, of 428 E. Diamond St., died Sunday in McCray Hospital after suffering a heart attack. Born in Afton, Okla. Oct. 2, 1910, he was he son of A. H. and Beatrice M. (Boultinghouse) Cookerly. On June 16, 1937 he married Florence L. Franke in Decatur. He retired in 1972 after having owned the Redwood Drive-In for 17 years. He was a veteran of WW II and a member of the Kendallville Elks Lodge and American Legion Post 86. He was one of the founders of Kendallville Bank & Trust and served on the board of directors since its inception. Cookingham Chester C died this morning from dropsy and heart trouble. He was a veteran of the Civil War, having enlisted in Co. G. 30th Indiana Volunteers.
