Campbell Richard, about 65, a millwright living near Albion, died this morning at the home of James Weaver, west of this place. Mr. Campbell went to Huntertown Monday to make some repairs on a mill. He has been in poor health for some time and becoming too ill to work he started to return home, arriving here on the 3:28 train yesterday. He telegraphed his son to meet him with a rig. Becoming tired of waiting, he started to walk towards Albion, expecting to meet his son coming for him. William Buser overtook him and Campbell accepted a ride as far west as Mr. Weaver’s. He refused to enter the house, saying he preferred to remain in the yard, as it was warm and pleasant, and watch for his son. Every passing rig was hailed but his son did not come, and despite the protests of Mr. Weaver and his family, Mr. Campbell remained in the dooryard all night. This morning he drank some coffee and ate some toast. Mr. Weaver then noticed that he was failing rapidly and sent to this place for Dr. Trader, but before he arrived there, Mr. Campbell died. Dr. Trader says death was due to chronic trouble, aggravated by the heat and over exertion. It was learned this morning that the telegram to his son had not been delivered by the Albion operator. Mr. Campbell was well-to-do and respected. ~ 9-7-1893
