Buchanan Anna - When George Duncan awakened on Saturday morning he found his sister, Mrs. Anna Buchanan, aged probably 75 years, wrapped in a shawl, sitting beside the coal stove, dead. He summoned the neighbors and they called the coroner. The latter did not say whether death was caused by the escape of coal gas fumes or heart disease. The body was taken to Kendallville where the inquest was held. The funeral was held in Rome City Tuesday. Mrs. Buchanan was born in Baltimore, Md., where her people were very wealthy. Many years ago, a bride, widely traveled and much cultured, she came to Rome City. Gradually her wealth dwindled until she lived in poverty, assisted by the township. Her husband died a good many years ago and is buried in Orange Cemetery. She is the mother of a daughter, Alma, who many years ago married against her mother’s wishes and was disowned. Later the girl separated from her husband, and it is said entered a convent in Denver. Mrs. Buchanan has always been very reluctant to speak of herself. The brother, George Duncan, with whom she lived, was formerly a well-to-do business man, his mind has failed, and he, too, has been living in need. + 2-?-1923
