Saltzbury Catherine (Gard) died last Saturday at her home in
Goshen, aged 57 years, 9 months and 13 days after an operation for gall stones
the previous day. She was born at Cosperville, her father dying when she was 8
years of age. She married Samuel K. Saltzbury December 24, 1872 and had
resided in Goshen for the past 17 years. Surviving are a husband; 2 sons; 2
daughters; 2 brothers, Scott Gard of Elkhart, Clinton Gard of Wawaka; and one
half-brother, W. A. Allen of Toledo, Ohio. Funeral was at the residence Tuesday.

Saltzgaber - Assessor Frank J. Saltzgaber of York Twp recently returned
from the funeral of his mother in VanWert, Ohio. She was nearly 88 years old.

Sanders Ralph E, 31, of the 4th generation of that name in the
Wolcottville area, died April 30 at Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago from a
kidney ailment. He was associated with his father, Harry A. Sanders, in the
hardware business. He was a graduate of Wolcottville High School and
Northwestern University and was a member of the Baptist Church and Lions Club.
He is survived by his parents and his grandmother, Mrs. Grace Sanders. 4-30-1942

south of Rome City, was born January 16, 1881 and died at her home on April 19,

Sattison George H, 70, Troy Twp, Whitley County, died at his home in
Columbia City Tuesday from Bright’s disease. He had always lived in Whitley
County. His first wife was Samantha Bortner, daughter of the late Jonas Bortner
of Jefferson Twp, Noble County. She died several years ago. He was married to
Margaret Coyle in October 1913. She survives. Obsequies were at the Troy

Savoie Harry James Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry O. Savoie, was born
November 8, 1923. He died August 4, 1924, aged 8 months and 26 days, from heart

Sawyer John, 72, was born in Kendallville in 1836 and died at his home in

Sawyer Margaret, 68, was killed in an automobile accident en route to
Florida Tuesday of last week. She was born in Kosciusko County, the daughter of
William Funk. She married Willis Sawyer in 1907 and they lived in Albion 2 years
while he was Noble County surveyor. He preceded her in death 21 years. Survivors
include 2 daughters, Josephine and Mary Jane, both of Kendallville. Funeral was

Sawyer Nancy, 89, died last evening at the Kondas Nursing Home near
Albion. Born June 12, 1869 near Kendallville, she was the daughter of John and
Mary Ann Kammerer Stark. Her husband, Harvey L. Sawyer, preceded her in death.
She was a Kendallville resident all her life except for 12 years when she lived
in Wolcottville. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She is survived
by a foster son, Harold Beard, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral will be

Sayles Burl, 36, native of Allen Twp and resident of that community most
of his life, died in a hospital in Detroit, Wednesday. He was the son of George

Sayles Charles, 46, was an old settler in Noble County but for the last
few years had been doing business in Chicago. His brother, George, brought him
home from Chicago some 3 weeks ago, sick with consumption, and buried him last

Sayles Katie Ethel, the 7-year old daughter of Mrs. Melissa Sayles of
Goshen, died of scarlet fever in that city on Wednesday of last week. Two sons
are afflicted with the same malady. The house has been quarantined. The family
is in destitute circumstances. The husband deserted his wife and family some
time ago and they have been compelled to depend on the work of the mother for
food and clothing. The oldest daughter, Bessie, aged 17, has been working in the
Goshen Shirt Factory for some time but was compelled to quit on account of being
taken sick. The mother is a respectable woman and is a member of the Dunkard
Church. Twenty years go she resided near the Union school house in Elkhart Twp
and will be remember as Miss Melissa Hahn. She was married about that time to
Charles Sayles, a former resident of Kendallville who has shown by his conduct
toward his family that he is not worthy of the love and respect of a pure and
noble-hearted woman. Such fellows should be dealt with harshly and given to
understand that the United States has no place within her borders for such
worthless characters who are so devoid of the principles of manhood. Noble

Chicago, and one in Tennessee; one son in Tennessee; and one brother, Joseph of

Scarlett S D. 62, Kendallville resident 37 years, died last Tuesday from
complications and double pneumonia. He was born in Albion, August 23, 1883, the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Scarlett. He married Jeanette Hanson on September 2, 1909.

Schaefer Herman Mrs., 53, died Friday at her farm home in Green Twp from
gallstones. She was born in this community and spent most of her life in Noble
County. Surviving are the husband; 2 children, Mrs. Lloyd Perlich and Lloyd

Schaefer John M, 72, Kendallville real estate dealer the last 5
years, collapsed in a grocery store in that city Thursday and died within a few
minutes. The coroner stated a cardiac condition was the cause of death. Born in
Allen Twp May 10, 1874, he was the son of Michael and Anna Schaefer and
had lived in Noble County most of his life. His wife, Eunice Hudson Schaefer,
died 10 years ago. A brother, Dan, of Avilla is the only survivor. New Era

died near Auburn, June 29, 1903, aged 60 years, 87 months and 27 days. Funeral

Schelich Barbara died at the Old People’s Home at Avilla, Monday of
softening of the brain, aged 79 years, 3 months and 4 days. Her former residence

Schermerhorn John H, 70, farmer and former president of the Indiana State
Fair Board, died Thursday in McCray Memorial Hospital after suffering a heart
attack at his home 2 miles southwest of Rome City. He was a former sate
representative from Noble County. A Republican, he also had served as county
councilman and commissioner and a president of the Noble County Fair Board for
about 20 years. He was a member of Brimfield Methodist Church, Rome City Masonic
Lodge and Noble County Farm Bureau. Surviving are the widow, Edna; a son; 2
daughters; 8 grandchildren and a brother. Services at Brimfield Methodist Church

Schermerhorn John M died at his residence in Orange Twp Sunday of heart
disease and pneumonia, aged 71 years, 11 months and 21 days. He had served as
trustee of Orange Twp for 7 years, 2 terms as commissioner of Noble County and
as a representative in the General Assembly from Noble County. He was a member
of F&AM and of he Knights of Pythias. He is survived by a widow and several
children. During the Civil War he served in Co. G, 88th Indiana

years, 6 months and 7 days. He came to Noble County with his parents when a boy
an resided there until 20 years ago, since then living in Goshen. He leaves a

Schlabach Henry was born in Lancaster County, Penn., November 26,
1830; and died at his home in Sparta Twp May 1, 1903, aged 72 years, 6 months
and 5 days. In September 1853 he married Mary Ann Krider. They had 10 children,
8 of whom are living: Emma Sparrow, Samuel, Henry, Monroe and George Schlabach
of Cromwell, John of Elkhart, Sarah Williams and Ella Keehn of LaOtto. Two
daughters are dead, Alice and Ida. He moved to Indiana in 1866. He was a Union
soldier, having enlisted at his home in Pennsylvania in a battery of artillery,
August 27, 1864 and did garrison duty in the forts about Washington, D. C. A
widow, 8 children, 15 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers - William
and Samuel - survive. He was a member of the M. E. Church at Kimmell. Funeral
was May 3 in Sparta Christian Church. Burial, Sparta Cemetery. Daily Record

Schlabach William was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, December
18, 1834. In 1852 he came to Ohio, where he lived until 1860,when he came to
Indiana. In 1856 he married Jane Braugher, and they had 8 children: Clara A.,
wife of Mr. Y. Werker, John R., Annie S., wife of J. T. Iden, William O., Mary
I., wife of J. W. Smith, Manias A., Charles L., and Ida L., who died in infancy.
His wife died July 7, 1869. He married February 22, 1880, Mrs. Catherine Arehart.
They had 2 children, Estella L., wife of Elvin Moore, and Harry O. He leaves a
wife, 5 sons, 4 daughters, one stepson, one brother, Samuel of Wolf Lake, 20
grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He died at his home in Sparta Twp
February 2, 1909, aged 74 years, one months and 15 days. He was trustee of
Sparta Twp 4 years, having retired January 1, this year. Obsequies were at

Schlaudroff Philip, 23, an employee of the McCray Refrigerator Co. was
drowned in Bixler Lake Wednesday. He had gone with 2 companions to bathe and
went in deep water, suddenly threw up his hands and sank. It is thought that
heart disease was the cause of him sinking. He came from Fort Wayne to

died Monday from spinal meningitis. She was born May 18, 1895 in Ligonier and

their cousin, John Schlotterback. She was a daughter of the late David Klink and

Schmidt John, formerly a harness maker at Avilla, but who was obliged to
go to the Soldier’s Home at Dayton, O., a year or 2 ago, returned to Avilla
last Friday. On many occasions he had expressed a desire to be buried at Avilla
when he died. His wishes were strangely gratified says the Kendallville Sun.

Schwab John was born at Sislen, Canton of Berne, Switzerland, October 11,
1821; and died October 5, 1903, aged 86 years, 11 months and 24 days. Came to

Schwab John Frederick, son of John and Anna Schwab, was born at Sislen in
the Canton of Berne, Switzerland on May 25, 1838, and died at the home of his
son, William in Wawaka, May 26, 1909 at the age of 71 years and one day. About
1858 he and his brother, Samuel, came to America, landing in New York. Soon
thereafter he located in the vicinity of Wawaka. He was christened in infancy in
the German Reformed Church. He married Mary Ann Lower May 3, 1866. They had 2
sons and 4 daughters. The wife and 2 daughters preceded him in death. He leaves
the children, Mrs. John W. Earle of Albion, William, Charles, and Mrs. Dwight W.
Hooten of Wawaka; and of the 5 brothers who came to this country, G. Schwab of
Albion, Samuel of Windson, Mo.; one sister in Switzerland. He was enrolled in
Company B, 88th Regiment Indiana Volunteer Infantry and was honorably
discharged at Washington, D.C. June 7, 1865. He was a member of the Knights of

Schwab John Mrs. (Aunt Katie) died November 3. Her daughter, Mary of
Elkhart, arrived a short time before her death. Her son, John of Wabash, arrived

Schwab Mary Agatha (Smidt) died at her home west of town Tuesday and was
buried in the Avilla Cemetery Friday. Her birthplace was at Wertenburg, Germany,
April 21, 1834. She came to this country when 17 years of age and was married to
George M. Schwab December 27, 1859. She was a member of the German Lutheran
Church where funeral was conducted. She leaves an aged husband but no other

Schwab Max William, 49, Goshen, a salesman who worked for the
Sprague-Warner Co. in the Fort Wayne area, died Friday in a hospital in Goshen.
Born in Wawaka, he lived in the Goshen area the past 12 years. He was a member
of the Lutheran Church and Elks Lodge in Goshen and the Masonic Lodge and
Scottish Rite in South Bend. Surviving are the widow, Velta; one son, Daniel J.,
at home; the mother, Mrs. Ruby Schwab, Wawaka; one brother, Frank H., Goshen;
and 3 sisters, Mrs. Lon Brill, Goshen, Miss Lucille, Ligonier; and Mrs. Donald
Gate, Kalamazoo, Mich. Services will be Monday in Culp Funeral Home, Goshen.

Jefferson and N. Oak Streets Monday, aged 53 years and 3 months. She was born in
Licking County, Ohio, March 1, 1850. She married Gottlieb Schwab October
29, 1868. They had 8 children, of whom 3 preceded her in death. She leaves a
husband; 5 daughters, Mrs. D. E. Gonser of Ashley, Mrs. C. W. Beck of this city,
Mrs. Cora Netz; Misses Ivia and Edna at home; one son, Dale. Obsequies at the

Schwartz Joseph T, 55, Kendallville, died last Friday at his home in the
city from bronchial trouble. He is survived by a widow and one son. Obsequies

Scott Cassius M of Cromwell was killed while working in a ditch on the
Hull farm 2 miles south of that town last Thursday. He was placing tile in a
part of the ditch where there was quick sand and was working alone at the time.
The place had been considered dangerous and he had refused to work longer but
was persuaded to reenter the excavation which was about 7 feet deep. He was
caught under 2 feet of fallen earth. Funeral was at the home Thursday. Burial,

Kendallville, died of consumption at Las Vegas, New Mexico where he had gone for

Scott John was a native of Madison County, Ohio, where he was born April
27, 1823. In 1836 he came with his father, Robert Scott, to Noble County and
settled in Washington Twp. August 3, 1845 he married Dorcas A. Wiley, a sister
of Carlos R. Wiley of Wolf Lake. They had 2 boys, William E. lives in Indian
Territory and David W. in Rochester, Ind. His wife died July 31, 1873. He
married Mary, daughter of Andrew B. Upson June 21, 1874. He died March, 1890.

Scott William, son of David S. Scott of Ligonier, was found dead upon the
sidewalk in that town yesterday. The supposition is that he fell from the window
of his office in Mier’s Block to the pavement below while asleep. He had just
commenced the practice of law. He was a nephew of our townsman, Dr. W. Y.

Seely Fidelia (Collins) died of tuberculosis at the home of her daughter,
Mrs. Metta Hayes in Jefferson Twp, April 5, 1909. She was born in Steuben
County, February 11, 1837. She married Lewis Seely October 22, 1856 and after
living in LaGrange County one year, located on the farm in Jefferson Twp. Her
husband died about 18 years ago. She is survived by one son, Charles of
Jefferson Twp; 2 daughters, Mrs. A. C. Green of this city, Mrs. Louis Hayes
of Jefferson Twp; 5 grandchildren; one brother, George Collins of Steuben
County. Obsequies were held at the home of her daughter on last Wednesday.

Seidel Henry, 73, a resident of Kendallville for 40 years, died at his
home in that city Sunday of pneumonia. He is survived by the widow and the

Seidle Rebecca died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. C. L.
Ostrander in Mishawaka July 10 from paralysis and old age. She was born in
Fairfield County, Ohio in 1830 and at the age of 4 came with her parents to
Noble County. She married Jacob Seidle October 27, 1842 and they moved to
Mishawaka in 1868. He was a son of Rev. Seidle, a former pastor of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church of this city. He was a mason by trade and was a
soldier in the Mexican and Civil War. He died in 1883. She is survived by one
daughter; 2 sisters, Mrs. Phoebe Moore and Mrs. Leah Dunbar of Ligonier; and 8

Seip Glen D, 58, a resident of rural Fort Wayne, died at his home
February 25 of a cerebral hemorrhage. He was born and raised in Albion and is a
brother of Mrs. Frank Guthrie. His wife died last October 15. He was a landscape
gardener and a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. He is also survived by 3
daughters, 3 sons, 2 brothers and 11 grandchildren. Funeral was last Saturday at

proprietor of a livery barn here for several years, died at his home in Muncie

Seymoure Hiram McIntyre, son of James and Gertrude Seymoure, was killed
in the cave-in of a ditch near Davenport, Washington, August 16, 1909. The body
was shipped to his mother at Pender, Nebraska, the funeral being held at the
Presbyterian Church at that place August 22. He was born in Dodge County,
Nebraska, November 29, 1873 and located at Pender with his parents when a child.
His father, a brother of Jonathan, Calvin and George Seymoure, all of this

family of 13 children, all of whom are dead except the brother, and a sister,

Bellville, Richland County, O., February 17, 1842; died at the home of his

moved to Albion in 1888 and has been here ever since, being in business several
years. He leaves the daughter, Mrs. Isaac Huff of Albion; the son, Fred of Fort
Wayne; 3 grandchildren, Mrs. Eve Mayo, who with husband lived with him, Harold
Huff and Mrs. Margaret Ramey of Fort Wayne; and 4 grandchildren. Funeral was at

who died 8 years ago. They had 9 children, 7 of whom remain: Mrs. A. R. Yeager,
Samuel, Jake, Newton, Clint, and Amos Shanower, and Mrs. Charles Harrah. He was
a charter member of the Evangelical Church at Wolcottville where funeral was

Wednesday, his demise resulting from a broken limb which he received 2 weeks
previous. He had been a resident of this county for nearly a half century,
having come from Stark County, Ohio. He was a native of Germany. He leaves a

Shearer Sarah, daughter of Jonathan and Mary Hantz, was born May 2, 1828
in Stark County, Ohio, the oldest of a family of 7 children. On April 22, 1847
she married Nicholas Shearer. He died August 28, 1901. In 1853 they settled in
Sparta Twp. She was the mother of 11 children. Surviving are 4 sons, 3 daughter,
5 grandchildren and one sister. Her age was 78 years, 8 months and 13 days. She
was a member of the German Lutheran Church. Funeral was in Sparta Church.

yesterday. She was a native of Noble County, living in Whitley County 11 years.

Dewayne at home; the stepfather and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Diffendarfer,
Noble County; 2 brothers, William C. Hill, Baltimore, Md., and J. L. Hill, Noble
County; a sister, Mrs. Charles Brumbaugh, Stroh; 2 stepbrothers, Jesse and Floyd
Diffendarfer, Churubusco; and a stepsister, Mrs. Roy Mangus, Kimmell. She
attended the Washington Center EUB Church where funeral will be held Sunday.

Sheffer Adam, a native of Maryland, born June 11, 1816; died December 20,
1883, aged 67 years, 6 months and 9 days. He removed in early manhood to Morrow
County, Ohio where he married Rachael Starr in 1839. Removed to Indiana in the
spring of 1873 upon a small farm near Kendallville and several years later moved
into the city, where on May 7, 1882 his wife died. He was a member of the
Baptist Church. He was the father of 6 sons and one daughter, of whom 4 sons
survive. Funeral at the Baptist Church last Sabbath. Democrat 1-2-1884
Sheffer W K, 81, died at his home in Angola Tuesday. He was at one time
associate editor of the Kendallville News and for many years editor and
proprietor of the Angola Herald. He married Eliza A. Pence of Ligonier in 1873.
He leaves 2 sons, one daughter; and 3 granddaughters; the wife and 2 daughters
having preceded him in death. He was an uncle of Mrs. Bertha Haney and Roy R.
Sheffer of this city. Democrat 4-29-1926
Sheffler Fred, about 50, was found dead Tuesday at his home in
Kendallville. He was employed at the Kendallville Body & Fender Shop and the
body was discovered when a search was made by the proprietor of the shop who
said that Mr. Sheffler had not been at work since Saturday. Coroner found death
due to a toxic myocarditis. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. David
Sheffler, former residents of the Albion and Wolf Lake communities. No immediate
relatives survive. Funeral was Wednesday from A. J. Berhalter Funeral Parlors.

Shellhouse Peter was born December 18, 1856 in Vermillion, Ohio, and died
in Albion April 6, 1909, aged 53 years, 3 months and 19 days. He was the son of
George and Eva Rheinemiller Shellhouse, the youngest of 8 children. He is
survived by 3 brothers, Henry of Auburn, John of Edgerton, Ohio, Adam of
Vermillion, Ohio; a half-brother, Nicholas Sheadroum of Lorain, Ohio. Two
sisters and one half-sister preceded him in death. He was a member of the M.E.
Church at Sedan, DeKalb County. After the death of his parents he came to
Garrett and served as engineer for 7 years on the B&O Railroad. He married
Charlotte Sleek of Albion on December 29, 1888. She survives. For the past 14
years he served as steward on the Great Lakes. Obsequies were at the M. E.

Shepherd Charles, 55, a farmer living near Big Lake in Noble County, was
fatally wounded Sunday by James Johnston who shot him with a shot gun during a
quarrel. A neighbor who was present states that the men had been drinking
heavily and had quarreled over the loan of $2 which Shepherd requested of
Johnston. Johnston was on his way to Columbia City to give himself up when he
was met by Sheriff Stickler and deputies going to arrest him. New Era 2-17-1932
Sherman Edna Mae, 54, of Merriam, widow of Virgil C. Sherman, died Monday
in Whitley County Hospital. Nine sons, 5 daughters, the mother, 2 brothers, 2

Sherman Grace E, 80 died yesterday in McCray Hospital. Living at 114
Kimball Ave., Kendallville, she was born February 8, 1879 in LaGrange County,
the daughter of Charles and Isabinda Austin. On March 31, 1897 she married
Zopher Sherman who died in 1943. She was a member of the EUB Church. Two
sisters, a brother, and a daughter, Estella Kurtz preceded her in death.
Surviving are a daughter, Miss Nellie R., and a son, Harold, both of
Kendallville; and 2 brothers, Floyd of Bronson, Mich., and Fred of this city.

Sherwood Etta (Butts), 70, widow of the late Charles Sherwood, died last
Tuesday at her home in Kendallville from a stroke of apoplexy. She was born
August 7, 1861 on a farm near Ligonier, the daughter of Thomas and Leah Butts.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Lora Rendel of Kendallville; one brothers,
Charles of Kimmell; one sister, Mrs. A. M. Neufer, Sturgis, Mich.; 4

Michigan Saturday. The Shews were residents of Kimmell for several years before
moving to Marshall about 5 years ago. Other survivors include 4 sons, James,

Shirk Elam F died at the home of William F. Shirk, R. 4, South Bend. He
was born in Lancaster County, Pa., July 31, 1858; died October 2, 1928, being 70
years, 2 months and 2 days old. He was a resident of South Bend and vicinity 42
years, coming from Albion. He was married to Nora Stuckey who died 23 years ago.

Shirk H R Mrs., wife of our townsman, died yesterday. New Era 12-11-1879
Shirk Michael R, while attempting to alight from an elevator which he was
running, was caught between the moving elevator and the shaft hole at the
Studebaker Bros. Mfg. Co. Monday, and was crushed to death. He had been an
employee there 6 years. He was born near Schoeneck, (Pretty Corner), Lancaster
County, Pa., December 29, 1835 and was nearly 70 years of age. He was the son of
Joel and Elizabeth Shirk. This is the first death of any of the brothers or
sisters in the past 55 years. Surviving are Mrs. Annie Kurtz, Reading, Pa., John
R., Henry R., Adam R., and Reuben R. Shirk, all of whom reside in South Bend;
and Evan R. Shirk and Mrs. Sarah Cary of Albion. He married Elizabeth Dinger
January 15, 1863 at Reading, Pa. Two children are dead: Mrs. Ida D. Hines and
Eby Shirk. Surviving are Eli D., Noah D., Ada, Ora D., Lee and W. D. Shirk and 7
grandchildren. He was a member of the Reformed Mennonite Church. (From South
Bend papers) According to E. R. Shirk the account given in the South Bend papers
was incorrect. He says that 2 men were with him on the elevator with a pair of
heavy trucks who wished to get off at the fourth floor, but for some reason did
not do so, but instead pushed the truck, the tongue of which struck Mr. Shirk on

Shirley William, 69, Jefferson Twp farmer residing 2 miles southeast of
this city, died Sunday after undergoing an operation at Sacred Heart Hospital in
Garrett for the removal of a gland which has been giving him trouble for a
number of years. He is survived by a wife; 3 daughters, and one son. Obsequies

Shisler Carlyle D, the 14-months old son of Mr. and Mrs. Enoch Shisler, 4
miles southwest of Albion, met death Tuesday by overturning a vessel of boiling
water, the contents scalding him. Funeral was Thursday at Sparta Church.

Shively Jacob F, 53, employed by the L. H. Gunsaullus & Sons
Construction Co. at Kendallville as an operating engineer, died at his home in
Churubusco Monday after a heart attack. He was a member of the Blue River Church

parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Shively, Churubusco; 4 grandchildren; 3 brothers, Chalmer,

was found dead in bed by her husband, Chalmer Shively, Tuesday. She was a member

Shobe Josephine, 71, died Thursday in Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital from a
heart condition. Born at Benton, she had lived in Ligonier 40 years. She
was the widow of Roberto O Shobe. She was a retired school teacher and a member
of the Methodist Church. Surviving is a nephew, Fred Banta, Lake Wawasee.

Shobe Norman Teal Dr., who received injuries in the burning of the
Medical College of Indiana one week ago last Friday at Indianapolis, died
Thursday as a result of his injuries. His remains were taken to Ligonier for

O., where he was born September 26, 1820. He died at his home in Ligonier August

Shock John Suffle was born in Odenbaugh, Germany, April 15, 1835, and
died at his home in Wilmot September 3, 1903, aged 68 years, 4 months and 19
days. He married Sarah E. Moore, February 28, 1867. They had 2 children, one
son, J. W. Shock of Wilmot and one daughter, Mrs. B. F. Bouse of Cromwell. He
leaves a wife, 2 children, 3 grandchildren, 2 brothers, one half-brother, one

Shull John, while skating on Otter Lake near Flint in Steuben County last
Sunday, broke through the ice and was drowned in about 25 feet of water. He was
about 30 years of age, unmarried and resided with his mother and 2 sisters. He
was their support. He was a grandson of Timothy Gaby of Brimfield; a nephew of
George and Charles Gaby of Orange Twp, of Mrs. Wilson Knox of Jefferson Twp and

Shuttleworth - Jonathan Shuttleworth has received word from Liverpool,
England of the death of his father in that city from paralytic stroke. His age

Shuttleworth Annie E, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Hutchison, was born
in Michigan, April 1, 1855 and died at her home in Avilla, March 23, 1909, aged
53 years, 11 months and 23 days. While an infant she went with her parents to
VanWert, Ohio. Later she resided for a short time at Ligonier, going to Albion
in 1873. In 1905 they came to Avilla. She married Jonathan Shuttleworth April 5,
1875. They had 2 children, both dying in infancy. She was a member of the
Catholic Church. She leaves a husband and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Will Price
of Auburn; 2 sisters, one of whom and a brother reside in Alabama. Funeral was
at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Friday. Burial, St. Mary’s Cemetery. Democrat

Simmons Jesse was born October 3, 1819 and died January 28, 1895, aged 75
years, 3 months and 25 days. After residing a short time at his birthplace in
Hudson County, Ohio, he moved with his parents to Morrow County, where his
father died. His mother moved to Carroll County. At the age of 12 he was bound
out and made his home in this county. He married Sarah Hauck January 29,
1847. In 1855 they came to Noble County. They had 11 children, 5 having preceded
him in death. A wife, 4 sons and 2 daughters survive. Funeral Thursday. Burial,

Simmons Olive C, 89, widow of James Simmons, died in the Weaver Nursing
Home in LaPorte County Saturday. She was a native of Syracuse and had lived in
the Ligonier community most of her life. She was a member of the Methodist
Church, the Eastern Star, the WRC and the Progress Club of which she was a
charter member. Surviving is a so, Charles, Ligonier. Rites were today in Ulrey-Sedgwick Funeral Home. Burial, Oak Park Cemetery. 3-24-1956
Simmons Sarah, daughter of Andrew and Margaret Hauck, was born in
Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, December 28, 1826; and died in Albion August 29,
1915, aged 88 years, 8 months and one day. She was the 4th in a
family of 11 children, all of whom have preceded her in death but one brother,
Amos of this city. When about 3 years of age she moved with the family to
Carroll County, Ohio. On January 29, 1847 she married Jesse Simmons. They had 11
children. Five preceded her in death. Surviving are Margaret A. Kutcher and Mary
C. Iler of this city; 4 sons, George, Jesse and Alpheus of Albion, and Andrew C.
of Fowler, Ind. The family moved to Noble County Mary 3, 1855 and settled on a
farm in Green Twp. After the death of her husband in 1895 she moved to Albion
and lived with her children. She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church
where funeral was held Tuesday. She leaves her children; one brother; 4
grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Burial, Rehoboth Cemetery. Democrat

Simmons William, the only child of George Simmons and wife, died from
tuberculosis at the home of his parents in this city Monday, aged 22 years, 10
months and 10 days. He was born in Green Twp December 10, 1879. The past few
years he resided with his parents in South Bend, Mishawaka and Millersburg until
a few months ago when they returned to Albion. Obsequies were at the Lutheran

Simon Charles, a brother of former sheriff, Chris Simon, died at his home
at Oakland, Ind., according to his nephew, Walter Crothers, who was informed

Simon Charlotte, daughter of Charles Simon and wife of Swan, died on
Wednesday of last week. Democrat 10-11-1900
Simon Fred, 50, of Garrett killed his 2 children aged 3 and 4, and then
shot himself. Mrs. Simon and another child had gone to a near neighbor’s to
call, leaving her husband in the house with a boy of 6 and the 2 daughters, whom
he shot. Simon sent the boy to the grocery to buy some tobacco. When the boy
returned he found the door of the house locked and as he could not get in and no
one answered him, he ran to the neighbor’s where his mother was and told the
neighbor’s little daughter that he couldn’t get the door open. The neighbor
child went back with him and finding a door which they could push open, they
went in to find one child dead. The other and the father lived a few hours. Each
had been shot in the right temple. Simon had been without work for a short time.
He had lost his position with the B&O when they reduced the number of
employees. Thursday he had been drinking heavily and it was said he had never
been in the habit of drinking. His wife had no intimation of his contemplating
the deed. He had been twice married, all the children being by the second wife,

lived on the old home place now occupied by his brother till he was 13, then his
parents both being dead, he went west and remained until about 5 months ago,
when on account of poor health he came back and has lived with his brother. He

Singrey Andrew Jackson was born September 9, 1829, in Richland County,
Ohio, the son of Thomas and Catherine Singrey; and died in Albion, December 17,
1899, aged 70 years, 2 months and 23 days. He married Mary Shuler of Richland
County, May 19, 1853. They had 2 sons, Orlando and Ervin; and one daughter,
Aretha. The 2 latter preceded him in death. He removed to Albion April 9, 1865.
He followed his trade of carpentry until the fall of 1893 when he was putting in
window shutters on the interior of the court house and fell from a high
stepladder receiving injuries which crippled him. Obsequies were at the
Presbyterian Church Tuesday. Burial, Albion Cemetery. He leaves a wife; one son;
2 brothers, John A. of Albion, and James H. of Fort Wayne. Albion Democrat

Singrey Erwin Vernon died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J.
Singrey in Albion, June 4, 1891, aged 22 years, 5 months and 22 days. Democrat

Singrey Frank Mrs., of Fort Wayne, is dead. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Singrey,
of the county infirmary, parents of Mr. Singrey, went to Fort Wayne on Friday to

Singrey James Harvey was born in Morrow County, Ohio, September 18, 1831;
and died October 27, 1909 at the home of his son in Allen County, aged 78 years,
one month and 9 days. He married Sarah J. Heathrington in 1855. They had 6
children: Franklin E., Charles A., Perry J., Della E Prouty, Cyrilla Foster and
Leroy, all of whom survive except Cyrilla. His wife died January 18, 1904. He
moved to Noble County in 1862 and bought a farm now know as the Gideon Walker
farm which he brought into a state of cultivation. From this farm he moved to
the farm now owned by Marion Edwards, which he also improved quite extensively.
He owned property and lived in Albion, and also bought a resided for a time on
the farm known as the old Singrey farm. He was for 8 years superintendent of the
infirmary of this county. He moved to Fort Wayne about 8 years ago. He gave the
ground on which the Mount Salem Baptist Church was built. Obsequies were at the
Union or Sweet Church Sunday. Burial, Sweet Cemetery. Democrat 11-4-1909
Singrey John A died last Thursday at his home. He was born February 29,
1828 in Richland County, Ohio. He, with his father, came to Noble County in 1849
where they purchased land. Later they bought a farm northeast of Albion in
Jefferson Twp where he lived until 3 years ago, since when Albion has been his
home. He married Ruth A. Walters August 14, 1853. They had 4 children, Jacob,
Rebecca, Anna and Thomas, the eldest, Jacob, died many years ago. Mr. Singrey
served one term as trustee of Jefferson Twp and 2 terms as county commissioner.

Singrey Orlando Mrs. died in the home of her daughter, Bertha, in
Portland, Oregon. Burial and services were in Nampa, Idaho, where Mr. Singrey is
buried. He was an early superintendent of the local light plant, and the couple

Singrey Ruth A, relict of the late John A. Singrey, died at her home in
Tiffin Addition of this city Wednesday, aged 71 years, 10 months and 17 days.
Funeral Friday in the Wesleyan Methodist Church. Burial, Sweet Cemetery. She
leaves 2 daughters, Mrs. Kate Stanley and Mrs. L. D. Thomas; and one son,
Thomas, all of this city. She was the sister of E. Walters of this city and John

Singrey Sarah Ann, relict of the late Jacob Singrey of Jefferson Twp,
died from catarrhal pneumonia at the home of her son, William, in that twp March
30, aged 71 years, 6 months and 4 days. She was born in Lancaster County,
Pennsylvania, September 26, 1828 and when about 4 years of age removed with her
parents to Richland County, Ohio. About 1847 she married Jacob Singrey. They had
3 sons and 2 daughters. They removed to Noble County in 1854. He died in 1891
and one son and 2 daughters preceded her in death. Two sons, William and John,
remain. Obsequies were at Jefferson Union Church Sunday. Burial in nearby

prepare the remains of Tom Singrey for shipment to this place. He died Thursday

Skeels Susanna (Turner), relict of William Skeels, deceased, died at the
home of her son-in-law, Henry Brown, near Albion, February 26, 1888, aged 75
years 11 months and 26 days. She was born on the Brandywine near the site of the
Revolutionary battle, on February 29, 1812. She moved to Ohio when a child. She
married William Skeels in 1831 and they came to Noble County in 1843. In 1871-2
they removed to Cloud County, Kansas, where in April 1885, the husband died at
the age of 81 years, 6 months and 17 days. The widow returned to be near and
with her children. She leaves 7 children, Sarah, wife of William Storey,
Rebecca, wife of Henry L. Brown, Rachel, wife of William C. Arthur, Mary, wife
of John N. Busz, Elizabeth, wife of George W. Roof, David and William Skeels;
and several grand and great-grandchildren. Funeral Tuesday. Burial, Albion

Skidgel Bernice, the twin daughter of Nicholas G. Skidgel and wife of
Kendallville, died in that city December 10, 1903 of pneumonia, aged one year, 4

Skidgel N Grant, 88, died Thursday at his home. He was born in Noble
County and was a retired caretaker for Eli Lilly, Wawasee Lake. He lived in the
Albion and Syracuse communities all his life. He was a member of the Calvary EUB
Church. He was married in March 1934 to Melissa Cleveland, who survives, with 2
sons, Harold, Columbia City, and Bernard, Albion; a daughter, Mrs. Byron Place,
Toledo, O.; 4 stepchildren, Mrs. Fletcher Marsh, with whom he lived, Mrs. Harry
Wysong, Indianapolis, Mrs. Henry Barch, Hammond, and Harry Cleveland, Syracuse;
a sister, Mrs. Zella McCurdy, Covington, Ky.; 5 grandchildren and several
great-grandchildren. Services Sunday at Calvary EUB Church. Burial, Rose Hill

Skinner Alfred, about 65, died from cancer August 8 at the home of his
daughter, Mrs. R. J. Wilson at Perry, Oklahoma. He was a pioneer of Jefferson
Twp, locating with his father on the farm now owned by Daniel Bidwell, in 1840.
He later lived on the farm owned now by B. F. Bortner, which he sold and moved
to near Columbus, Kansas, about 1881. Four children survive, O. E. at Columbus,
Kan., William O of Pueblo, Colorado, and 2 daughters who reside near Perry,
Oklahoma. He was a brother-in-law of W W Cary of Jefferson Twp. New Era

Skinner Christiann (Kline), about 79, died of dropsy at the home of her
son, Alvin J. in Toledo, Ohio. She was the widow of James Skinner to whom she
was married in 1852 and who died a number of years ago. She leaves one daughter,
Mrs. Abram Schutt, and the son. Her death removes the last one of her family,
one brother and 5 sisters having preceded her in death. Obsequies were held at
the home of her daughter about one-half mile north of Albion on Sunday. Burial,

Skinner Frank P, 73, a resident of Kendallville 40 years, died today in
his home from a heart ailment. He was a native of Albion and a retired employee
of McCray Refrigerator Co., where he was a 30-year veteran. He was born July 29,
1883. Surviving are the widow, Minnie; a brother, Roy M, Plymouth; and a sister,
Mrs. Ruth Sinderson, Downers Grove, Ill. Services Friday in A J Berhalter Co.

Skinner Harrison died near Columbus, Kansas, August 6, 1899. He was born
in New Haven, Ohio, August 29, 1831, and at death was 67 years 11 months and 5
days. He settled in Jefferson Twp in 1836 where he resided until 1878 when he
removed to Kansas. Democrat 8-17-1899
Skinner Harry, a former Jefferson Twp boy, died about 2 weeks ago at the
home of his father in Cherokee County, Kansas. He was an extensive berry raiser
and his death was caused by overwork during the berry season. He had about 7,000
bushels of strawberries last year and this season he had enlarged the acreage.

Skinner Madison Monroe, 68, died from a complication of diseases at his
home on E. Ellsworth St. Friday from Bright’s disease. He as the son of Jehu
and Barbara Addis Skinner, born in Noble County in 1850. He married Mary Wise
who died many years ago. He lived at various places in northern Indiana and came
to Columbia City about 15 years ago. Two children were born to his first
wife, both dying in infancy. He married Ida May Weeks. They had one child,
Dewey, now at home. Three stepchildren with the widow also survive. They are
Mrs. Henry Loe, Roy Baker and Omar Whiteman of Columbia City. Also 2 brothers,
Tom of Noble County and Gerard of this city. A half-brother and one sister died
some time ago. Funeral will be at the home Sunday. Burial, South Park Cemetery.

Skinner Nancy, 101, died at the home of her grandson, B. F. Tolan, an
architect of Fort Wayne, last Thursday. She was a native of New Jersey. Many of

Slabaugh - An infant of William Slabaugh Jr. was buried at Sparta

Slabaugh Birdie, about 35, died at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort
Wayne Thursday from injuries sustained Wednesday night. She walked out from
behind a line of parked cars and failed to see a car and was hit by the auto
driven by Rollin Knight, 16, of Ligonier. Surviving is the husband, Ray.

typhoid fever, aged 40 years, 4 months and 10 days. He leaves a wife and 4

Smith Abram H, pioneer of Noble County, died at the home of his daughter,
Mrs. A. J. Hostetler in LaGrange last Friday, aged 74 years, 7 months and 21
days. For many years he resided in Elkhart Twp but several years ago he retired
and moved to Ligonier. His wife died a few years ago. He is survived by 3
daughters, Mrs. Curtis Cole of near Ligonier, Mrs. A. J. Hostetler of LaGrange,
and Mrs. Walter Robinson of Ligonier; 4 sons, Charles and Bruce T. of Toledo, A.
Howard of Elkhart Twp, and Edwin M. of this city, recorder of Noble County; a
number of grandchildren. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church.

Smith Ada, 72, was found by her grandson, unconscious Saturday on the
kitchen floor of her home 2 miles south of Albion, a victim of cerebral
apoplexy. She died at the Luckey Hospital March 3, 1952. Surviving are 2
daughters, Mrs. Ruth Stewart, Albion, and Mrs. Alvin Nicholaisen,
Chicago, 3 foster children all in Chicago; 5 grandchildren; 18
great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Herbert Eagles, South Bend, and Mrs.
Alpha Zollinger, Elkhart. Funeral today in the Church of the Blessed Sacrament.

Smith Adam, a former resident of Kendallville, and a brakeman on the Lake
Shore, was found dead on a freight car at Wauseon, Ohio Saturday with a bullet
hole through his body. The rest of the crew knew nothing of the affair. Tramps
are supposed to have done the shooting. A son of the deceased is an express

Smith Albert Ellis, the youngest son of Ellis G and Anna Earle Smith, was
born June 15, 1897 and died from pneumonia and spinal meningitis March 2, 1899,
aged one year, 8 months and 17 days. Funeral at the house Saturday. Burial,

Smith Alfred P., Albion, died at her home on N. York St. Sunday from
apoplexy and complications. He is survived by a widow; 2 sisters, Mrs. Millie Rimmel
of Mulliken, Mich., and Mrs. George Simmons of this city; one brother, Mack of
Grand Rapids, Mich. He was a native of DeKalb County, where he was born August
29, 1855, a son of Samuel and Mary (McMahan) Smith. Obsequies will be at the

Noble County September 23, 1901; died September 23, 1903, aged 2. She leaves a

Smith Charity (Lane) was born in York Twp February 24, 1844, the
daughter of Vincent and Sarah (Hitler) Lane and died in Ligonier August 8, 1908,
aged 64 years 5 months and 14 days. She married B. F. Smith April 25, 1861. They
had 5 sons and 6 daughters. One son, Everett, and 2 daughters, Addie and Ethel,
died in infancy. In December 1892 she united with the Christian Church at
Ligonier. She leaves a husband; 4 sons; 4 daughters; one brother; 3 sisters; 10
grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral was at the residence Monday.

Smith Charles, 65, unmarried native of Kendallville, died of apoplexy
Saturday at the home of his niece, Mrs. Louis Holzer. He was engaged in the
shingle business at Manistee and Saginaw, Mich. for a number of years and later
engaged in the meat business at Bruce, Wis. He was forced to give up work 5
years ago when becoming afflicted with rheumatism, since which time he has lived
with his niece. Funeral was Monday at the Holzer home. Burial, Lake View

Smith Charles Ray, 11, and Earl E, 13, children of Charles M.
Smith and wife of Akron, Ohio, formerly of York Twp, drowned while skating with
companions on a pond in Hugill’s stone quarry at the foot of Bluff St.
December 24, 1902. The father of the children is a son of the late Asher W.
Smith of York Twp and a half-brother of the children of Mrs. Susan Smith. Earl
broke through the ice and Charles also drowned trying to save his brother. The
family had consisted of 2 daughters and 2 sons. Democrat 1-8-1903
Smith David, 28, of Avilla, when a small boy fell and broke his leg above
the knee joint. Ever since he has been troubled with granulation of the bone and
ulceration of the flesh. On Thursday last a necessary operation took place. It
took one hour and 35 minutes, performed by Drs. Teal and Gilbert of
Kendallville, Gregg and Weisle of Fort Wayne, Maloney and Schutt of Avilla, and
Broughton of South Milford. He rallied for a time but died a few hours after the
operation. He leaves a wife and one child. New Era 5-24-1877

Smith Edna (Clemens), formerly of Albion, died Sunday in Garrett. She is

Smith Eli, son of Eli and Barbara (Nigh) Smith, was born in Gallia
County, Ohio, April 27, 1827 and was one of a family of 7 boys and 3 girls. He
came to Indiana when a boy but returned to Ohio with his father. In 1850 he came
back and on February 27, 1851 he married Mary Ann Diffendarfer. He was a member
of the Christian Church at Merriam. They had 6 children: Thomas Corwin, who died
at the age of 16, Jacob D., who died in infancy, Otis B., living on a farm in
Allen County, Edwin J., in Columbia City, William H, Noble County, and Albert,
who died at age 6. He was a member of Company L, First Regiment, Indiana
Volunteer Cavalry and served in the Civil War from the fall of ’62 to the
summer of ’63. He died December 2, 1909 at the age of 82 years, 8 months and 3
days. He leaves his wife, 3 sons, one sister, Melissa Long of Anthone, Iowa.
Obsequies were held at Merriam Chapel. Burial, Chapel Cemetery. Democrat

Smith Elisha J, 88, brother of our townsman, Eli Smith, died from
diabetes Monday at his home at Arcola. For more than 50 years he was a resident
of Lake Twp, Allen County. He was a member of the 88th Indiana
Regiment in the Civil War. He leaves a widow, 2 sons and 2 daughters. Obsequies
were in the M. E. Church in Arcola this morning. Burial, Lindenwood Cemetery.

George W. Smith Jr., in York Twp, December 26, 1902, aged 64 years, 8 months and
6 days. She was born in Ohio on April 20, 1838. She came when an infant with her
parents to this county. She leaves one brother, G. W. Smith Sr. of York Twp.

communities, died in his home in Ellensburg, Wash., Tuesday. He is survived by 3
sons, Vernon, Forrest and Wayne, all of Ellensburg; 8 grandchildren; and one
sister, Mrs. Samuel Sutton, Churubusco. Rites at Ellensburg. Interment at Los
Angeles. 12-9-1956
Smith Emma E (Kimmell) died from lagrippe at Plainfield, Indiana August
21, 1893. She was born in Albion January 28, 1856. She married John W. Smith
March 18, 1877. They had 2 sons and moved to Indianapolis about a year ago. She
was at Plainfield for treatment. Funeral was at the residence of Frank Kimmell.

Smith Frank, about 35, residing 4 miles south of Ligonier, while hunting
Sunday afternoon was killed by the accidental discharge of his gun. His brother,
Ellis found him in the branches of a fallen tree with the right side of his head
blown to pieces. The supposition is that in attempting to get over into the
tree, he had slipped, causing the hammer of the gun to catch on a branch,
discharging it. He is survived by father, mother, one brother and 2 sisters.

Smith Fred Mrs., 25, of Walkerton committed suicide last Saturday night
by taking paris green. She and her husband had planned to attend a dance. The
husband insisted upon taking a young woman with them, to which Mrs. Smith
objected and a bitter quarrel ensued. Later Smith took the young lady and his
wife remained at home. Four hours later when the husband returned from the dance
he found his wife a corpse. She was of a prominent family. Democrat 7-25-1901
Smith Garfield - A party of young men residing in the vicinity of
Tamarack Lake northwest of Kendallville, composed of Pen Fruhm, Walter Winegart,
James and Garfield Smith, went on a hunting expedition in the Butler woods near
the lake Sunday. Garfield, the youngest of the party, went into the brush in a
stopping position in search of game. A flock of birds flew out of the brush and
as they did so, young Smith assumed a standing position, receiving the full
contents of a shot gun in his forehead, fired by Winegart, killing him

Smith Grover, the 14-year old son of John Smith living west of Ligonier
was killed in a runaway Sunday night about 2 miles east of Millersburg. He was
returning home from church with 2 older brothers when the horse became
frightened and ran away. The older boys were uninjured. Democrat 5-24-1900
Smith Harold, grandson of Mary Smith on Albion St. was killed Saturday by
a cow running and trampling him near Mount Pleasant. He was leading the animal

Smith Harry of Garrett, formerly of this place, was found dead Sunday one
mile and a half north of Kendallville. It is supposed that he had concluded to
bathe in the little stream of water where his body was found. He had removed his
coat and vest and was upon the point of unbuttoning his pantaloons when he was
seized with an epileptic fit and fell into the stream and was drowned. The water
was not over ten inches in depth where he fell. He was subject to those spells.

of Allen Twp Saturday of bowel trouble. She was a sister of the late Ephraim

Smith John, living south of Wolf Lake, died on Monday and was buried on

Smith John, a young boot and shoe merchant of Avilla met with a
fatal accident on September 30. He had purchased a rifle cane that day and it is
supposed that while loading it at his store to fire at a mark, it was by some
means discharged, the charge taking effect in his neck and causing death in a
few moments. Dilbert Schutt, a young man clerking in the store, was in the front
room at the time and on hurrying to the spot found Smith leaning upon a table.
He said, "I am gone - get the doctor." He died about ten minutes
later. He had been married a few months. He leaves his wife, sisters and

Smith John W Rev. died of dropsy June 3, 1891 at his home in Albion, aged
71 years, 4 months and 10 days. He was born in White County, Ill. on January 23,
1820. When he was 2 his father, Rev. William H. Smith became a Methodist
minister. His wife died 6 years ago. He was a chaplain of the 48th,
Indiana in the Civil War. All of his children except 2 of his son in the far
west attended the funeral. His youngest sister, Mrs. Maria H. Holmes of

in Rome City, last Friday from a complication of diseases. She was a native of
Clearspring Twp, LaGrange, County, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. Scott, and had
always lived in the same community. Her husband died 2 years ago. She is
survived by 4 daughters, Mrs. Nora Goodridge of LaGrange, Mrs. G. F. Buker and
Mrs. Earl Reed of Rome City, and Mrs. L. D. Clausen of Miles City, Montana.

Smith Mark Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Smith, Albion, was born
prematurely and died Sunday in McCray Hospital after his mother, Barbara, was
injured in an automobile accident. The baby was due in August. Mrs. Smith’s

Smith Martin T, son of William and Susannah Smith, was born in Williams
County, O., May 1, 1843, and died September 26, 1924, aged 71 years, 4 months
and 26 days. He married Polly C. Underwood in 1872. They had 12 children, 7 of
whom preceded him in death. His wife died 26 years ago in June. He became a
member of the U. B. Church in 1886 in Williams County, O. He came to Indiana in
1904 and has lived in and around Albion until 6 years ago when he went to

14 days. The daughter of John and Margaret James, she was born in Jefferson
County, Ohio, August 10, 1838. In company with her parents in 1841 she removed
to Noble County. They first lived in Sparta Twp near Stone’s Tavern. After one
year they removed to the farm in York Twp owned by her father. She married
George W. Smith October 23, 1856. They had 8 children, 3 preceding her in death.
One daughter, Mahala, wife of Samuel Haller living east of Kendallville, and 4
sons, George, James, Sanger and Riley of York Twp. She was a member of Pleasant
Hill Christian Church. Funeral was at the Sparta Church Monday. Burial, Sparta

recently. He was postmaster of Albion during President Grant’s administration.
He was married in 1869 to Adaline Brackney and moved to Butler County, Kansas in

Sontchi David, 55, Wawaka, owner of a number of race horses, was killed
at Kendallville Saturday when the sedan he was driving stalled on the Main St.
crossing and was struck by the second section of the Twentieth Century Limited
on the NYC Railroad. Surviving are 2 sons, Lawrence of Wawaka, and Bruce of
Mishawaka; and one daughter, Mrs. J. H. Stienbarger of near Wawaka.

Sontchi John was born in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, March 11, 1853. He came
to Allen County, Indiana with his parents in 1856 and had resided there
continually. He married Irene Pantee December 11, 1883. They had 4 children. He
was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. He died at the home of a
sister, Mrs. Henry Holzworth, Noble County, August 31, 1909, aged 56 years, 4
months and 20 days. He leaves a wife, 2 sons, 2 daughters, 5 sisters, one
brother, 4 grandchildren. The remains were sent to St. Joe where the funeral was

Southworth Fanny died at the home of her son, William, in Seattle,
Washington, July 24, 1909, aged 85 years, 7 months and 18 days. Several years
ago she lived on her farm in Green Twp. She was the widow of Thomas Southworth
and the sister of the late Robert Askew of Albion. She removed to Seattle about

Sower Samuel and wife - Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Sower of Orange Twp
were called to Ithaca, Mich. to attend the funeral of his brother and wife. Mr.
Sower became deranged and when told he would have to go to the hospital for
treatment he became furious and killed his wife with an ax and then took his own

Sparrow Ann, 69, died at her home in Brimfield last Sunday from heart
trouble. She was the widow of John H. Sparrow and a sister of Mrs. Ellen Bender
of Albion, who, with 2 others sisters, 2 sons, 2 daughters, 18 grandchildren and
4 great-grandchildren, survive. Funeral was held Wednesday from the Brimfield

Sparrow Mary, 52, daughter of Abraham and Mary Ann Stark, was born in
Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, December 16, 1857. In 1873 she married George
Sparrow. She died August 10, 1909. In 1889 she joined the Sparta Christian
Church. She was the mother of 9 children, one daughter, Mrs. Lillie Landon,
preceding her in death. She leaves one son, Charles of Syracuse; 7 daughters,
Mrs. C. O Thompson of near Wawaka, Mrs. Lou Conrad of near Goshen, Mrs. John
Gangwer of Millersburg, Mrs. Frank Huff of Ligonier, Mrs. Ollie Growcock of

Spaulding Frank, native and lifelong resident of the South Milford
community, died Thursday from complications incident to senility. He was
recognized as the "Sage of South Milford" and often contributed
articles to newspapers. He was a member of the South Milford Odd Fellows.

Speaker Joseph Mrs. died at her home south of this city last Thursday of
pneumonia, aged 78 years, 11 months and 12 days. She is survived by her husband.

Specht Frank, 68, a farmer living in Fort Wayne, died on Wednesday of
last week of apoplexy. He came to this country when a young man and purchased a
farm near Ege where he lived for many years. He moved to Fort Wayne a few years

Spence Thomas of Jefferson Twp died from typhoid fever where he was

Spencer Ada, 84, a former resident of the Albion community, died Tuesday
in a nursing home in Butler. Surviving are a niece, a nephew and a
brother-in-law. Her husband, W. W. Spencer, died in 1953. Service Thursday in

Spencer Catherine Christine and Becky Sue, twin daughters of Mr.
and Mrs. Gilbert Spencer who reside at Big Turkey Lake, were born and died

moving to Big Turkey Lake. Surviving are the parents; 2 brothers, Dean Ivan and
Gary Gene, at home; the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Spencer, Albion, and

Spillman Solomon Hewitt was born in Wayne County, Ohio 77 years and 8
months ago, and died at his home in South Haven, Michigan on March 19, 1915. He
had been a resident of Brimfield and Topeka for many years. He was a broom
maker. He was a veteran of the Civil War, having served in Company E, 35th
Regiment. He answered the first call for volunteers in 1861 for 3 months, then
later re-enlisted in the 35th Ohio Regiment for 3 years longer. He
was discharged for disability in 1863. He leaves 4 children, Addie, Emma,
Charles and Etta; 2 half-brothers, Levi Crume of Brimfield, Rev. John H. Crume
of Elkhart; 2 half-sisters, Mrs. Lovina Stienbarger of Rome City and Mrs. Jennie

Spriegel Mrs. died at her residence on Sunday. It was at first
reported that her death was caused by the beatings her husband gave her, but her

Spurgeon Amon died December 6, aged 62 years and 29 days, at the General
Hospital at Elkhart General Hospital. From 1904 to 108 he served as trustee of
Elkhart Twp. In 1910 he was chosen a county commissioner, serving 2 terms and
voluntarily retiring in 1916. Surviving are 3 sons and one daughter, Theodore
with the U. S. Army in France, Fred, Ernest and Grace at home; 5 brothers, Harry
of Ligonier, John of Toledo, Joseph of Cromwell, Isaac of Quaker City, Ohio, and
David of Seattle, Washington; 2 sisters, Mrs. Jesse Shaw, Cosperville, and Mrs.

was absent on Monday on account of the funeral of an uncle - Mr. Spurgeon, we

Spurgeon Ernest, 35, unmarried, Elkhart Twp traveling salesman, died in
the McDonald Hospital at Warsaw today from complications following an operation
for appendicitis. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Amon Spurgeon. He
graduated from Wawaka High School and had been employed as salesman for Allied
Mills, Inc. of Fort Wayne and Chicago. He returned 3 years ago from Africa where
he was located as a representative with the Oliver Plow Works of South Bend. He
lived on his farm which is tenanted by Frank Crago. Surviving are 2 brothers,
Theodore, near Ligonier, Fred, Madison, Wis.; and a sister, Mrs. Grace McWhorter

Spurgeon Isaac, 82, of Quaker City, O. died Thursday. He was born in Ohio
but after the death of his first wife lived here at the Spurgeon homestead for a
number of years. He was the head of the Rider mill near Cromwell but in later
years was in charge of the big grist mills at Zanesville, O. He was a brother of
Mrs. Kate Shaw of Wawaka, Mrs. Anna Coldren, Joseph Spurgeon of Topeka, Harry of
Ligonier and the late Amon Spurgeon of Wawaka. Democrat 2-4-1926
Spurgeon Joseph died February 12, aged 86 years, 3 months and 8 days, at
the home of his sister, Mrs. Anna Coldren of near Topeka of complications
caused by old age. He had been a resident of Cromwell for many years. He was
born in Ohio and was a brother of the late commissioner, Amon Spurgeon.
Funeral was Monday at the Christian Church in Ligonier. Burial, Oak Park

Squibb Elsie was born July 24, 1895 and died in Rome City March 10, 1898,
aged 2 years, 7 months and 16 days. She was the only daughter of Delta and

Squibb Thomas was born in Butler County, Penn., September 27, 1825 and
died June 20, 1901 at Ormas, aged 75 years, 8 months and 23 days. He married
Hannah M. Mercer at Millersburg, Ohio, June 29, 1843. She died December 2, 1880.
They had 11 children, 5 of whom remain - 3 sons and 2 daughters. He lived in the
Rome City community for 45 years, moving to Ormas with his son, William
recently. He was a member of the Rome City Free Baptist Church where funeral was

Squires Elizabeth A, wife of J. W. Squires, was born in Muskegon County,
Ohio, December 25, 1830 and died of tuberculosis at the Indiana State Soldier’s
Home at Lafayette, April 11, 1909, aged 78 years, 3 months and 17 days. Her
husband died in 1864. She was the mother of 9 children, 8 of whom preceded her
in death, leaving one son, Hamilton Squires of Elkhart Twp; also 11
grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She came with her husband to Noble
County in 1863 and resided here until October 1908 when she went to the Soldiers’
Home. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren since 1863. Obsequies were

home of her sister, Mrs. Mary Boyd, aged 23 years, 9 months and 7 days. She was

Stabe Julia, 65, of Kendallville, died Monday at her home 3 miles east of
Lisbon form lockjaw after stepping on a rusty nail last Tuesday. Born in
Germany, she came to this country when 16 years old. She married John Stabe in
1883. They had 4 children, 3 of whom survive: Fred Stabe and Minnie Bauman of
near Kendallville, and Albert at home. Funeral was Wednesday from the St. John

Stage Orin, three weeks ago, on his way to Ligonier, from this place,
stopped at a house of a friend and shortly afterward was taken sick. Neighbors
and friends called at his bedside, not knowing that he was a victim of the
"black" fever, and in this way it is thought the disease was spread
throughout the city. The fever caused strangulation and Stage choked to death,
his face becoming black. Democrat 5-17-1894

Stahl Charles died at his home in Avilla last Saturday and was

Stahl Chick of Fort Wayne, a noted ball player, committed suicide
at West Baden last Thursday by taking four ounces of carbolic acid. He was
manager, captain and center fielder for the Boston American team and was in
training at West Bade at the time. He was born near Avilla and moved to Fort
Wayne when a small boy. He was married to Julia M. Harman of Boston last

Stahl Fannie E (Chilcote) was born in Albion August 2, 1867 and lived
there until 12 years of age. They then moved to Auburn where she lived until her
marriage to John W. Stahl in 1888 and since then her home has been in Chicago
most of the time. She died from consumption January 23, 1899. She was a member
of the M. E. Church in Chicago. She leaves a husband, mother, one sister and one
brother. Services were held from the home of T. J. Cuppy in Auburn, Tuesday.

Stahl Reuben, 67, contractor of Fort Wayne, died Wednesday. He formerly
lived in Kendallville and Avilla, leaving the latter place for Fort Wayne in
1881. He leaves a wife, 6 daughters and 6 sons. He was the father of
"Chick" Stahl, the well-known ball player who has appeared on the
Albion diamond and who is with the Boston team. Democrat 6-4-1903
Stambaugh - The infant daughter of Mrs. Emory Stambaugh
died on Saturday and was buried from the M. E. Church Monday. Democrat 8-23-1894
Stangland Mabel, daughter of J. R. and Mina Young, was born in Noble
County May 9, 1877 and died at her home near Madras, Oregon, May 4, 1905, aged
27 years, 11 months and 25 days. She married Frank E. Stangland November 14,
1898 and was the mother of 3 children, Bessie, 5, Boyd, 3, and Ted, 1. Mr.
Stangland went west in April 1899 and his wife joined him in June. She was sick
but 3 days and death was due to paralysis. She leaves a husband, father, mother,
daughter, 2 sons, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, a grandmother. She was a member of the
Merriam Christian Church and an Albion High School graduate. Democrat 5-4-1905

Stanley A J was born July 10, 1840 in Union County, Ind., and died
February 27, 1901, aged 60 years, 7 months and 17 days. His mother, whose maiden
name was Hannah Hunt, died when he was 9 months old. He was cared for by his
Grandmother Stanley until his father married again, when he was 8. At this time
his parents came to Noble County. His first wife, Martha (McWilliams) Stanley,
died August 2, 1879. They had 10 children, Liona E, William H, Sophronia J.,
Perry J., C Frank and A Milton, all present at the funeral except William H who
lives in Seattle, Washington. He married Matilda Williams in March 1886, who
with his mother, 2 sisters and 4 brothers survive him. Funeral was at Rehoboth

Stanley Henry L died last Monday at the Battle Creek Sanitarium, aged 37
years, 6 months and 23 days. He was born and raised in this county, the son of
Henry C. Stanley of Green Twp. He leaves a wife and one child. Funeral was last

Stanley Nettie J, daughter of George and Martha Rumbaugh, was born in
Noble County December 15, 1866; died at her home in Greensfork, Wayne County,
October 6, 1924, aged 57 years, 9 months and 21 days. She married Perry J.
Stanley December 25, 1901. they had one son, Rollin P. She taught school in
Noble County 17 years, at Rome City, Brimfield and Kendallville. She was a
member of the Eastern Star Lodge. Surviving is her husband, former sheriff and
Albion hardware store owner; one brother, Daniel Rumbaugh of near Brimfield and
a sister Miss Wilda who resided with her sister. Funeral was Wednesday at the M.

Stanley Perry Mr. and Mrs., former Albion residents, were both
killed in an automobile-truck crash at the junction of Highways 30 and 33 north
of Fort Wayne, Tuesday. He was a former businessman and served as county

his home at Goshen. He is survived by the widow, Mabel; a daughter, Mrs. Carl

2 sisters, Mrs. Hazel Landon, Largo, Fla., and Mrs. Robert Barrett, Goshen.

Logansport a few weeks ago, died in that institution on Wednesday of last week.

Starkey Sarah (Moore) was born December 19, 1847 in Westmoreland County,
Pa. When a small child she moved to Ohio with her parents and when 11 came to
Noble County. She married Arthur B. Starkey June 11, 1867. They had 5 children,
the oldest died in childhood. The other children with the husband survive. She
died November 3, 1903, aged 55 years, 10 months and 14 days. She was a member of
the Evangelical Lutheran Church. She also reared from infancy her niece, Carrie
Moore. She leaves the husband, 3 sons, one daughter, 6 grandchildren and the
adopted niece, brothers and sisters. Funeral at F. W. Baptist Church at Wolf

Stevens Nellie, 24, society belle of Walkerton, this morning took a dose
of morphine with suicidal intent and 4 hours later died in her mother’s arms
at the family residence. Before dying, she claimed to be the wife of Verne
Hardenbrook, the pugilist, who won a reputation by defeating Kid McCoy. She
alleged she was married to him 5 years ago and despite his marriage, he was
paying attention to a Miss Bentley. For this reason, she killed herself. She was
a daughter of the late C. W. N. Stevens, a pioneer merchant of Walkerton and was
considered the most beautiful woman of the town. Verne Hardenbrook is a cousin
of Ruel, Guy and Carl Hardenbrook. He is the son of A. C. Hardenbrook, formerly

Stewart Anna Delano, daughter of Charles and Mary Stewart of Garrett died
in that city July 29, 1902, aged one year, 5 months and 23 days. She was born
near Wolf Lake February 6, 1901. Funeral was at Merriam Chapel on Wednesday of

Stewart James C, former county auditor, died at his home one and one-half
miles east of Wolf Lake December 6, 1901. He was born in Chautauqua County, New
York, January 17, 1829 and was aged 72 years, 10 months and 19 days. He
accompanied his parents to Green Twp in 1836. The following year his father
died. His mother died in 1844. He then made his home with his grandparents,
Newman Scarlett and wife. His grandfather died in 1838 and he lived with his
grandmother until his marriage to Margaret J. McWilliams in May 1852. He served
as constable, assessor and as justice of the peace for 15 years. He served as
auditor for 8 years. He was a member of the Masonic and Knights of Pythias
orders. Funeral was at Christian Chapel at Merriam. Burial, Chapel Cemetery. He
leaves a wife; a son, Virgil A.; a daughter, Mary J, the wife of Charles E.

Stewart Mabel Clare, the little daughter of Virgil Stewart, son of
ex-auditor James C. Stewart, died Saturday of last week at the home of the
latter in Noble Twp of diphtheria. A few years ago Virgil lost his wife and was
left with an infant daughter to care for, who found a good home in that of her

Stienbarger Harrison, a resident of Cosperville, died at his home March
16, aged 67 years, 2 months and 6 days. He spent his childhood in Springfield,
now known as Cosperville. In 1871 he married Caroline Inks of Elkhart Twp. They
had 3 children, Mrs. Sarah Armanda Buck of Storm Lake, Iowa, Mrs. Dora Delphia Ramer
of LaGrange County, and Albert at home. He lived on the old Stienbarger
homestead in Orange Twp for some time, then in 1885 he moved to Carthage,
Missouri. While there he united with the Odd Fellows Lodge. Two years later he
moved to Scotland County and remained there until February 1903 when he moved
back to his home state and settled on a farm near Wolcottville. In October 1906
he returned to his old birthplace. He is survived by the wife, 4 children, one
brother, Charles of Rome City. Funeral was Friday at Cosperville. Democrat

Stone Hank - Last evening an old gentleman made his appearance upon our
streets and passed from one place to another troubling no one further than the
soliciting of a drink of water. At Vetter’s place about 9 o’clock he asked
for another drink of water, remarking, "must be crazy for I want nothing to
drink but water." After the closing of our business houses he went to the
Lake Shore Railroad and after midnight turned up at Railroad Street crossing. He
went to warm himself by the tender of an eastbound freight, which stood a short
distance east of the street crossing waiting to let second section of express
No. 28 pass, due here at 2:13 a.m. The approach of this train must have
bewildered the old gentleman for he stepped over upon the north side and whirled
around when the engine hit him, throwing him from the line. Democrat 12-13-1894

Stoops Bertha, 41 years, 11 months and 13 days died of pellagra in a
hospital in Fort Wayne Monday. The father, Samuel died Monday evening,
aged 76 years, 2 months and 7 days from hardening of the arteries and

Stoops Charles was born in Albion October 14, 1871 and died at his home
in Toledo Tuesday from Bright’s disease, May 4, 1909, 38 years, 6 months and
20 days of age. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Stoops. On New Year’s Day
1896 he married Irene Reed of Albion. For about 14 years he was a resident of
Toledo and for a number of years he was a clerk in the large mercantile
establishment of Lamson Bros. in Toledo. Obsequies were at the home in Toledo

Stoops Horatio W was born in Mansfield, Richland County, Ohio, December
16, 1834; died at his home in Nappanee, Indiana, October 8, 1897, aged 62 years,
9 months and 22 days. At the age of 22 he removed with his parents to Albion
where he married Mary E. Pepple, March 16, 1862. They had 2 sons but the life of
one was of short duration. The other, Claude R., is a business man of Nappanee.
The first 6 years of his wedded life was spent in Wawaka where he pursued wagon
and carriage making. He later learned the baker’s trade, which he followed in
Albion, Bremen and Wolcottville. In January 1888 he removed to Nappanee where he
was engaged in the bakery and restaurant business. He leaves a widow, one son, 2
brothers and 2 sisters, Samuel of Albion, William of Toledo, Mrs. Rena Morris of
Albion and Mrs. Elizabeth Slyter of Goshen. Funeral was at the M. E. Church in

Storey William died at his home in Jefferson Twp on Thursday from
apoplexy. He was a native of Yorkshire, England, a son of George and Elizabeth
(Sedgwick) Storey, born Aril 8, 1824 and at death was 79 years, one month and 20
days of age. During his boyhood he attended the common schools of England and
when old enough hired out to work on a farm. Having 2 brothers in America, he
came to Boston, from whence he went to Lockport, New York, where he remained 2
years. In 1849 he came to Noble County and purchased a farm in Sparta Twp, which
he sold within 8 months and purchased another in Jefferson Twp, which he sold,
then bought a farm of 160 acres in the same twp, which he sold and purchased the
farm which he owned at his death. In 1857 he married Sarah Ann Skeels, daughter
of William Skeels and widow of his brother, Matthew Storey, who had by her first
husband 3 children, George, Mary and Elizabeth. Mr. and Mrs. Storey had 2
children, Thomas and William, the latter preceding his father in death. He was a
Democrat and was twice elected township assessor. He was a member of the Roman
Catholic Church. He leaves a wife, one son, one stepson, one stepdaughter, 4

master of the Lake Shore Railroad, died in Chicago on Tuesday of last week. He

Stoudenhour Sarah was born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania and died in
Noble County September 2, 1903, aged 84 years, 11 months and 26 days. She came
to this county in 1852, living with her sister, Mrs. Jacob Koons, until the
death of the latter, when she resided at the old home in Jefferson Twp. She was
a member of the Lutheran Church at Mount Pleasant, where funeral and burial was

Strait Leona Luski, 22, died at the home of her uncle, W. R. strait,
Thursday last and was buried in Circle Cemetery at this place Saturday. Services

southwest of Hudson. She was a granddaughter of the late Dr. William H. Clark of
this city. She was born in Noble County and was left motherless when 2 years old

Straub Elmer E died from consumption at his home in Lakeview, Mich. week
before last and was buried one week ago last Sunday. He was a former businessman
of this city, having owned the Main St. bakery and restaurant several years ago.
He was a son-in-law of Lycurgus Bowman of Ari. Democrat 1-11-1900
Straub S. W. Prof., 56, died at his home in Chicago Saturday. He was a
native of Indiana and was author and publisher of sacred and secular music. He
was an uncle of Elmer Straub, who several years ago conducted the Main St.
restaurant. A few years ago he held a musical convention in the Lutheran Church

Straus Frederick W, 65, died in Chicago last Wednesday. He was for many
years a resident of Ligonier and founded the Citizen’s Bank in that place in
1870 and remained at the head of the institution until his removal to Chicago 14
years ago where he continued in the banking business. During his time in
Ligonier he was associated in business with his brothers, Mathias and Jacob. He
leaves a wife, 3 sons and 5 daughters. He was buried in Rosehill Cemetery in

Stroup Homer was drowned in Stoney Creek about half way between Ligonier
and Millersburg under circumstances that gave a tone of suicide to the affair.
He was bathing in company with several other young men when he suddenly cried,
"good bye" and plunged into deep water and did not rise. He was dead

Strouse Elizabeth, 80, (McCartney) pioneer resident of Avilla, died of
complications incident to old age Friday at the Old People’s Home near Avilla,
where she had resided the past 6 years. She was born in Pennsylvania and had
been a resident of Allen Twp and Avilla since a young girl. She was preceded in
death by her husband about 15 years ago. Surviving are 2 sons, William of near
Avilla, Allen of Elkhart; 2 brothers, William of Kendallville, Enlow of Iowa.
The body was taken to the home of a niece, Mrs. Paul Heinzerling, at Garrett.

of the city last Tuesday. He had amassed a considerable fortune by close
figuring and attention to details. He has seen little of life outside of his
quest for wealth, in which he was remarkable successful. He never spent a dollar
without carefully considering the returns and he did little to improve the

member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. For nearly 5 years past she has had

Sweet Thomas, 57, was horribly mangled at LaOtto Sunday by a freight
train on the Vandalia Railroad. He died instantly. He was in charge of the W. C.
Proctor carload of stock which had been on exhibition at the Fort Wayne fair and
a number of other fairs in Indiana and Ohio for the past 8 weeks. At LaOtto he
was waiting transfer to North Manchester to put the stock on exhibition at the

Swigart Abraham Y, 80, died in Columbia City, New Year’s evening of
paralysis. He settled in Noble Twp in 1852 but a short time after moved to
Whitley County. He was the father of Dr. H. M. Swigart, formerly of this city,

killed last Friday by a moving freight train in that city while he was

Swigart Lon, 33, of near Merriam, while unloading a load of logs in the
mill yards of the Peabody Lumber Co. at Columbia City last Friday was crushed to
death. The men who were helping him lost control of the log and it rolled off
prematurely, catching Swigart and crushing his head. He died instantly. He was

died February 8, 1946. Surviving are 3 daughters, Mrs. Robert Troyer, Mrs. Irene
Z. Landon, and Mrs. Clarence Whicker, all of Elkhart; 2 sons, Willis of Elkhart,
Therlow and Kenneth of Constantine, Ira of Wendover, Utah, Paul of Phoenix,
Ariz., and Gwyne of White Pigeon, Mich.; 20 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; 2
sisters, Mrs. James Christman of Millersburg and Mrs. Libby Page of Middlebury;
and 2 brothers, John and Lewis of Millersburg. Services Saturday in Walley

Swisher E W, about 34, died in Ligonier November 25. He leaves a wife and

Switzer Frederick, 88, Ligonier, stepfather of Kermit McCoy of
Churubusco, died last Thursday in the Irvin Nursing Home, Columbia City. He was
a retired farmer and a lifelong resident of Noble and Whitley Counties. He was
born January 25, 1871 in Whitley County. Other survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Oakey
Hite, Ligonier; 3 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Suzie
Gross, Churubusco. His wife, Lura, died in December. Funeral Saturday at Ulrey-Sedgwick Funeral Home. Burial, Christian Chapel Cemetery. 2-12-1959
Switzer Lura Dell, 85, died Tuesday in the Bakle Nursing Home, Columbia
City. Survivors include the husband, Fred; a son, Kermit McCoy, Churubusco; a
daughter, Mrs. Oakey Hite, Ligonier; 3 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and
a sister, Mrs. George McCoy, Fort Wayne. She was a member of the Charter Oak
Methodist Church. Funeral Thursday in Krider Funeral Home. Burial, Christian
