E. H. Sherman, of Allen Twp, furnished us with the following statement of
the early settlers of Allen Township. These, plus a few additional names, were also entered in the
1883 list of white and colored male inhabitants of the age of 21 years or older.
1. William Broughton - 44 years in Noble county, 42
years in Allen Twp.
2. John Boszor - 43 years in Allen Twp.
3. Daniel Brumbaugh, age 91, the oldest man in Allen Twp.
4. Noah Bixler - 45 years in Noble County.
5. Alpheus Baker - 47 years in Allen Twp, 47 years in Noble County.
6. Samuel Baughman - has been married 57 years, his wife being 78
years of age; he is 79 years of age.
7. Richard Frost - in Allen Twp 40 years.
8. Samuel P Haines - in Allen Twp 41 Years; was married to Mary
Smith In 1832.
9. Lewis Iddings - in Allen Twp 46 years.
10. Hiram King - 46 years in Noble County.
11. Michael King - father of 21 children, 11 living.
12. Ryland Reed - came to Noble County in 1836; was married to Eliza
Iddings in 1835; in Allen Twp 44 years.
13. Nathan Roberts - 40 years in Allen Twp.
14. Edward Spencer - in Noble County 46 years; was married to Emily Wheeler in 1850.
15. Jonas Strouss - in Noble county 47 years; was married to Anna McCartney in 1823, her age now being 80 years; his age 83; voted 61
years; 11 children, 9 living.
16. Moses Tryon - 42 years in Allen Twp.
17. Joseph Wadsworth - 46 years in Allen Twp.
18. William Whitford - age 41 - born and reared in Allen Twp.
