A
Kendallville News Item of 1800
At an early hour Saturday morning our sidewalks were filled with groups of men
discussing the impending trial of J. C. Stienbarger, teacher in School District
No. 18, for the chastisement of William Myers’ little son, Charlie; which
occurred on January 22.The
plaintiff alleged that Stienbarger maliciously punished the child and
consequently had brought suit against him.
Lawyer Holden appeared for the plaintiff in behalf of the state, and Mr.
Campbell of Albion and David Perew of Wolcottville, for the defense.
The case was tried before Squire Dixon and resulted in a
complete vindication for the defendant. The
jury was out only a few minutes.
